Faith runs with freedom in a game that feels as fresh as the original and gives a step forward in every aspect. If parkour is a religion, DICE is its particular Holy See.

If you loved the original Mirror’s Edge, you will likely love Catalyst as well. On the other hand, the same issues that some people had with the first game are still present in Catalyst. This doesn’t feel like it’s going to win over any non-fans of the franchise. Yet, I wouldn’t say that is a bad thing. Mirror’s Edge Catalyst knows exactly what it is, and more importantly what it is not. It is a stylish platforming game that just so happens to be in the first-person perspective; it is not a shooter, and it is not for everyone.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst is a step above its predecessor in almost every way. No, it's not perfect, but when everything seamlessly blends together – the parkour, the speed, the city, the gameplay and the graphics – this is an experience like no other.

A beautiful, open world and exhilarating parkour action just manage to cover up some irritating shortcomings in Mirror's Edge: Catalyst.

It has been suggested that Catalyst is a remake of Mirror’s Edge, or a reboot, but it is in reality a re-alignment of the first game with the recognizable features of a mainstream videogame, a reparation between the most original of its ideas and the most generic features of its medium.

Unfortunately, a sterile open world and excessive backtracking drain Catalyst of the fun found in the original.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was an answer to intense fan demand for a new game, and that seems to be all it is. Catalyst has nothing to say and less than nothing to add to its genre. Unimaginative and repetitive, with a story that goes absolutely nowhere, Catalyst serves only as a way to waste some time if there’s nothing better to play...It’s not offensive, and it’s not an actively bad time, but it’s so very bland and uneventful. I can’t really speak for the developers, but Catalyst certainly gives the impression that they’d rather be working on literally anything else.

They've taken Mirror's Edge and solved its every flaw, while also adding many of the things that fans wished for. The open world is gorgeous and incredibly fun to run around in, the story is exciting and touching and the characters feel much more alive. It took me about 7 and a half hours to finish the story of the game, which is also a huge step up from the original's 2 and a half hour story mode. And I still can't put the game down, thanks to its plethora of side activities that are just as fun as the original game's time trials.

If there's anything I'd complain about in this game, it would only be that the ending of the story didn't really reach much of a conclusion. I was hoping for the protagonist's actions in the story to have more of an impact, but to be honest, the ending made sense and it was actually very refreshing to get a story that doesn't have an overly happy ending.

There's a lot more that I would love to say about this game, but I'm not very good at expressing myself in text, so I'll let the short description of what I liked and disliked and the score I gave speak for those masses of thoughts I have for this game.

Good story, characters, exploring, collecting, platforming, gameplay and design! DICE really stepped up from the last game! There is also some old school platforming goodness in this game. I really hope that they get to make a second (third) game! That would be awesome! Expand

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a streamlined experience for all gamers who are accustomed to open world games. It's competent in runnig 60fps at 900p on ps4 straight out of the box.
There is an engaging and accessible 8-10 hour main campaign for all players. For those seeking to quenche their collectible thirst will find an abundance of objects tucked away in the city of Glass. If it's a challenge you're after, try completing any of the many side missions while achieving full star. Better yet, try one of many user created time trial gauntlets, or create one yourself.
This game offers top class first person parkour gameplay in a unique dystpian setting.
The only reason that I took a point off is because combat is undercooked and could be more engaging - though it isn't the main focus of the game.

Catalyst is a disappointment - the biggest problem is that it has gone open world and it needn't have. You have this big city to explore but it's dull and lifeless. The story is shallow and forgettable just like its characters. They included a pointless skills tree which once you have aren't enough points to you can buy skills such as being able to turn round on the spot.

Fans of mirrors edge may enjoy it - I'm a fan of the series but this didn't do it for me at all.
