For those who want to play alone Towerfall Ascension is a smart, fun and challenging puzzle game that sadly won’t last too long. On the contrary it becomes a nearly magical experience together with three friends. When it comes to deep party games that are easy to pick up this is one of the best ones.

Trials is, as usual, both fun and challenging in single player but it is at its best when you compete against your friends. Even if the future theme is a bit annoying Trials Fusion is overall a good game for those who want something challenging, and a must-buy for the competitive ones.

Goat Simulator is a joke gone too far. It’s utterly broken and hilarious at the same time. Unfortunately the lack of content makes the experience shallow and even the biggest goat fanatic will lose interest after a few hours.

In 10 Second Ninja you have just ten seconds to defeat every single enemy. In order to score the highest amount of points you need to complete the levels faster than that. If you like pushing yourself towards perfection you'll probably find a bit of fun here. If not, this is nothing for you.

A bit disappointing start aside, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright becomes a pretty descent game after a couple of hours, even if the gameplay is full of missing potential. Instead of a interesting mash-up it's safety first, with well known mechanics and very few surprises.

Monument Valley is so beautiful that it will take your breath away. But it doesn't quit there. The levels, that are designed as optical illusions, is highly enjoyable and the mechanic is really impressive. Ustwo have most certainly made a bright future for themselves.

Elder Scrolls Online presents an honest attempt to freshen up the MMO genre. It wants to offer fans a pure Elder Scrolls experience with a focus on story and characters, but with its fairly sloppy multiplayer mechanics the game gets a bit boring. Despite quite a few good ideas, Elder Scrolls Online sadly fails at several points. It's still a game that will really speak to a variety of players though.

Reaper of Souls isn't filled with new innovative ideas but thanks to the new content, together with a most needed patch, Diablo 3 have taken a big step towards its full potential. The classic feeling of "only one more time" is stronger than ever.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is still an enjoyable adventure, mostly for those who played it back in the days. But even new players that are interested in the history of Final Fantasy can find some interesting mechanics here. The battle system is still intuitive and Spira is in all way as beautiful as ever. Even if the differences between the original and the remastered version can seem a bit small at first they become obvious in a direct comparison.

Sucker Punch have delivered a smart, fun and ambitious superhero game that both dares to give the player a lot of powers along with the responsibility that comes with that. Even if the game doesn't exactly shout out next gen, it's in any ways technically impressive and probably the best game yet for the Playstation 4.

It doesn't have the deepest game mechanics, and some moments feels somewhat confusing. But Stick of Truth may be the most genuinely entertaining game I've played in a long time. It is just like a long and thought out South Park episode with simple yet very entertaining gameplay. It isn't perfect, but as a South Park experience, it is spot on.

Steamworld Dig is an indie game that mixes Boulder Dash and Castlevania in a great way. To dig down into the mine in search of precious stones, new abilities and secrets quickly becomes addictive. It feels a little disappointing when the bottom has been reached, but the road there is very entertaining.

Dark Souls 2 is not the bomb as its predecessor was, but still manages to do its heavy brand justice. With sustained difficulty, atmosphere and overall experience of desperation, hopelessness and triumph at overcome difficulties, we see evidence that there is something in the phrase "do not fix what is not broken".

A creative, innovative and at the same time familiar action game that make its rivals feel ancient. Instead of spending the budget on great graphics and expensive production values, Respawn Entertainment has invested in making an interesting and unique action game. While the campaign mode is more of a nice idea than a well-executed one, the online mode is a window to intuitive, engaging and varied entertainment.

Yoshi's New Island is exactly what the title gossips about - a remake of the almost twenty-year-old original. And it is for good and bad. It's nice to once again see the world with its pastel-colored graphics, but at the same time it offers to little new for it to feel justified. The result is in some places a nice platformer that unfortunately is a bit tedious in the long run.

An excellent expansion and almost a must for those who appreciated Shadowrun: Returns. Action, atmosphere and environments contribute to a more engaging experience. Some of the most glaring misses from the predecessor has been fixed, but there are still some flaws. The text-heavy arrangement requires much of the player, but the reward is even greater for those who want to go deep in the world of Shadow Run.

The return of the master thief Garrett is a mixed bag. Thief builds on its series proud heritage of tactile stealth, focusing on realism but loses some of the way to modern design trends. Thief has some unnecessary padding that smooth out the gameplay as well as some cinematic ambitions that do not reach all the way. Above all, it is plagued by qualitative valleys that appear to be a result of a stressed launch. Nevertheless, Thief gets a weak recommendation because the basic formula is still fun and somewhat unique.

Garden Warfare is an entertaining online games with inviting playability and unique design for a game in the genre. The tempo in both combat and how fast to unlock new material is very addictive. After a while you start it unfortunately feels a bit tedious, much because there are too few game modes and maps. As a whole, it is a game I can recommend though, especially considering that it is not sold at full price.

A half-hearted HD update of a game that had a lot of problems when it was launched ten years ago. Problems that have not become easier to forgive as time have passed. During all scrap hides, however, hides a really fun game, but the only big fans should consider a return to Albion.

The Last of Us: Left Behind is an extension that continues in the same vein as the original. The combat system is tight and the production is impressive. The adventure is however plagued of much padding, and a story that is more ambitious than actually good. The weaker section of the two in the series but worth a look if you feel you did not get enough last time.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is a text-heavy adventure game with action and strong characters as showpieces. The game mechanics borrows elements from Ace Attorney, where the murder locations to be searched for evidence later presented during the trial. For those who do not fear the large text volumes remain only a couple of flaws in an otherwise refreshing gaming experience.

The Lego Movie Video Game offers a shorter campaign, fewer secrets and a more boring character gallery than usual. Despite this, it manages to still be one of the better Lego games from the TT factory thanks to the charm and the high pace. Seeing the movie first is strongly recommended though.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 mixes elements from popular games without really understanding how the pieces must be assembled. The result is a tedious and sloppy game that most feels like something that the developer Mercury Team wanted to get over with. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 lacks even the ambitious driven from its predecessor. It's not a bad game, but not worth playing.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is in every way a better game than its predecessor. It contains more variety, more fun levels and wonderful David Wise-written music. Retro Studios has some way to go before they can compete with Nintendo in terms of gameplay, but otherwise, this is one of the more successful games in the genre.

This is a mood-laden puzzle game that unfortunately does not reach all the way. The atmosphere gets the player into the mysterious world, but small and big problems very often pops up and lowers the experience. Despite this, I still like Master Reboot, to some extent anyway, and it will be exciting to see what Wales Interactive tinker together next.

It's a bit disappointing that the remake of Tomb Raider could not deliver any new content of value, but the graphics and next-gen effects are eye candy that is more than welcome. This is not enough for the already saved to buy Lara Croft's latest adventure again, but the game is still a shining example of an entertaining action adventure that should be experienced.

With Blackguards, German Daedalic offers an adventure in the vein of a dice RPG. Unfortunately also some irritating moments follows from that kind of games, and when pure chance can decide a difficult battle it all feels quite frustrating. But Blackguards is an entertaining game with well-made elements, and definitely deserves a chance to prove itself.

Broken Age is in many ways an amazing adventure. It offers a unique style and has dialogues which in most cases are of very high class. Unfortunately, the story fails to engage to the point that you have to play on, which is a problem considering that this is only the first of two parts. In combination with a gameplay mechanic suffering from lack of new ideas, the game fails to climb higher on the rating scale. But for the genre buff, there is no reason to keep the pennies.

A half-hearted HD conversion of a half-hearted game. The problems with the main series are even more evident here as much has been reused to fill out the running time. The story seems more important than it is and the game's greatest strength - to switch between different personalities for Aveline, is regrettably mostly used as a gimmick.

Stoic has been successful with its tactical role-playing game. The viking theme and graphic design is a breath of fresh air, while the animations and the combat system could have been a bit more varied. Expect a text heavy and challenging experience where most of the role playing consists of your choices in dialogues which then affects the plot.

A very slow party game. The majority of the mini games are well done and easy to learn and play, but all the waiting time is killing the pace and joy of playing. A group of players could have some fun, but if you're playing alone - stay away.

Have you missed the days of Tony Hawk? Then this game is for you. It doesn't offer as complex levels and make an attempt to include the culture aspect, but the hunt for points is there. One of the better Playstation Vita titles yet.

Probably not a game for everyone. The pace can at times be very low, and the developers could've thrown in more surprises. But it's a title that is hard to put down once you've gotten into it.

Bravely Deafult is the best game from Square-Enix in a long time and a must for fans of classic Final Fantasy. The battle and work system, as well as the history and the graphics is natural progresses of a gamemaking many deemed nostalgic.

World of Warplanes is a fun, arcady game with quick and exciting battles. It should have a bit better presentation and immersion even though the game isn't about that. Its easy action, and hopefully a small taste of something that the developers will add with more functions.

Just like earlier titles Skylander Swap Force is firstly a well made platform game fitting for most age groups. It’s sorta simple and the level design is nothing special but the use of figures and creative thinking is great. Even though the solution to the games puzzles is sometimes obvious.

Zen Studios pinball games keeps up its stride of great pinball games. There are some minor issues here and the price is kinda out there, but if you like pinball and you like Star Wars it’s just sort of perfect.

Arkham Origins is a game with two sides. One is a well made game with good design in combat and stealth. The other side is a game that never gets out of the shadow of its predecessors. Batman fans should pay attention but that’s it.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is a game that feels locked between two worlds. Not only between to generations of consoles but between a run of the mill AC-game and an astonishing pirate game. It’s not only a well needed spark to the series as much it’s a redefining of it. Everything that is use is great and everything old feels like it should be thrown overboard. Try it regardless of your thoughts about earlier Assassin’s Creed games.

NBA 2K14 introduces a deeper and more advanced steering, which is welcome for all of us who don’t manage the more tactic side of the game. Prostick is a great addition and NBA 2K14 is a game that grows the more you invest in it and the more you know about the sport.

The latest game in the franchise delivers what the series has always been great at, without jumping any sharks. The story is exciting, the characters memorable and the humor great. The updated 3D graphics feels like a natural evolution of the old style but the difficulty could have been higher. A must for fans of the series.

Call of Duty is a series that is oftentimes criticized for making the same game year after year, which is of course totally true and Ghosts is no exception. It even feels like a step back. The campaign is devoid of anything interesting and even the online part feels uninspired. It’s not a bad game by any means but it’s like its predecessors, only worse.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.

The third Olympic Games with Mario and Sonic is the worst one yet. It offers very few events worth playing and manages to be a party game that doesn’t feel easy to pick up. On top of that you need an entire arsenal of different controllers to even play it.

The final Ratchet & Clank game on the Playstation 3 offers a couple of evenings of good entertainment. But aside from some new ideas everything is the same. It’s a nice send off for the series as a whole but not one that stands on its own in any particular way.

Burial at Sea could have been one big salutation of the first Bioshock and in some moments, it is. But unfortunately the concept is wasted by not having a good enough story. Hopefully the second episode will make Burial at Sea worthwhile. Meanwhile, save your money.

In many ways Tearaway is a charming, fun and unique platform game. The use of Media Molecules world of paper feels fresh and different but also comes with a fair share of frustration. And not in the way of a challenge. In all a solid platformer worth the money.

Much is the same in A Link Between Worlds. Just like in A Link to the Past you follow Link from a birds-eye perspective in both light and dark worlds. But A Link Between Worlds is not merely a simple game of nostalgia but one that perfectly blends the new and old Zelda games. The result is one of the best games in the series.

Everybody probably doesn’t love grindhouse humour and rail shooters in 2013. But there is no game like Typing of the Dead: Overkill. Together with the upcoming co-op mode it might be a future cult classic.

The last game with Professor Layton as it’s main characters offers great puzzles and improvements to the series core gameplay. Level5 could probably have invested more in the cut-scenes and voice acting since the dialogue text kind of drags. But in all, a must for lovers of Layton.

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a very traditional first-person-shooter that doesn’t achieve anything new. The graphics are impressive and the frame rate is good but it’s hard to get invested in either the action or the story. As a launch title for a new console, it’s passable.

Super Mario 3D World is not only a great Wii U game. It’s a great reason to buying the whole system. Everything from the graphics to the controls is sculpted to perfection. It’s also one of the best co-op games we’ve played in a long time.

As a launch title for a new console Knack will probably not satisfy anyone. It’s not a total disaster but it’s a bad uninspired game, lacking both variety and interesting game design.

Resogun might not be the most amazing game released alongside the Playstation 4, but its intense gameplay still makes it a good one. The levels are few but great in design and fun. It’s not as great as Housemarque's title Super Stardust HD but good enough for a couple of hours of entertainment.

Walking with Dinosaurs is a game that tries to entertain and educate at the same time. The result is that it does neither. The knowledge is shallow and the gameplay even more so. It feels more like a cheap use of a license to sell a poorly made game to kids.

In retrospect Dark Matter should probably not have been released. At least not in this state. It’s a shame since there’s good stuff here. But right now it’s just an unfinished metroidvania clone.

The follow-up to one of last year's best games is an enchanted version of the same masterpiece. Battles are more expansive and go way deeper than before. The higher difficulty levels alongside the Iron Man Mode gives the gameplay an incredible nerve and challenge. Xcom Enemy Within might as well also be one of this years best games.

Gran Turismo 6 is a Gran Turismo XL, for better and worse. The core concept with gathering cars is still great fun and at the same time the amount of time you have to put into the game is poorly managed.

The Lego games have always been solid but never more than that. The tradition keeps going with Marvel Super Heroes. It’s charming and entertaining but also kind of monotonous. But if you like Marvel and good co-op you can do much worse than this.

Rivals keeps going in the same direction as Criterion's Most Wanted and Hot Pursuit. Meaning it’s an arcade racer in an open-world setting. Unfortunately the setting isn’t as fun and the police chases are more tedious than exciting. Aside from that Ghosts shows promise for the future of the series.

A Machine for Pigs is a well made and impressive game with a thorough thematic design and atmosphere. As a horror game it is rather spartan yet brilliant in that it let’s your brain conjure most of its horrors. Unfortunately it comes with a rather numbing effect that makes later parts of the game feel more formulaic and not as scary.

Splinter Cell Blacklist is one of the better entries in the long lived spy-saga. It offers great gameplay choices and sneaking is heavily rewarded. On top of that the multiplayer is also confidently crafted. The one thing lacking is the banal story with flat characterization that hinders Splinter Cell Blacklist from reaching any narrative high points.

The Wonderful 101 bursts with charm, humour and style. It is very easy to care for the characters and their universe. But frequent trouble with the controls breaks the tempo far too often. Something that also racks up the challenge unnecessarily high in an already hard game. But at the same time the battle system is a joy, if hard to master. It’s a very good game with some rough edges that feels very well needed on the Nintendo Wii U.

Puppeteer is an original platform game filled with creativity and charm. The games surprises are constant and the boss battles nothing short of brilliant. Unfortunately the controls are somewhat unresponsive and the pacing a bit uneven. But in all it’s still a more than successful and confident platform adventure. Especially in multiplayer.

Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix will probably not convince non-fans of the series. It’s the same type of cozy Disney/Square-Enix mix as always but also with the same type of bad controls and unbalanced difficulty level as the original.

Shelter is a game about being a badger and strange as that may sound it is first and foremost a pleasant and beautiful little adventure. It doesn't really strive to anything majestic but it's still a great game for those who want something different.

A lot of people complain that the big sports game series don't evolve enough over the years. But NHL 14 shows that they don't even have to do that. This entry in the series is riddled with bugs and the Hockey Ultimate Team mode has still not yet been figured out. Instead of a step forward it seems it chose to take two steps back.

A somewhat shaky but original and entertaining game series has in Lost Planet 3 been dumbed down to boring gray matter. Everything that made the series unique has been removed and replaced with a story focused game that no one asked for. The story in and of itself is alright but it doesn't salvage Lost Planet 3 since you still have to play an utterly awful game to experience it.

Grand Theft Auto V offers one of the best sandbox experiences ever, filled to the brink with stuff to do. The vistas are magnificent and amazing stuff just seems to happen wherever you go. But at the same time the story is tired and the characters unoriginal. Your appreciation of Grand Theft Auto V will depend of what you want out of the series. The freedom and joy of discovery is hard to beat but the rest still has some ways left to go.

The new game engine makes the field play feel infinitely better in this edition of PES. It's a welcome and well needed change for the series. There is also a fair amount of bugs and some strange a.i but in the end PES 2014 is a sports game that is well done.

In this year's installment FIFA doesn’t take any larger leaps forward. It is still a polished football game for the dedicated fan base. And for the player who doesn’t want to play alone Ultimate Team is probably better than ever. But it is still too bad that EA hasn’t worked more on improving the core mechanics of the game.

When Diablo III enters the living room some things are worse, but for the most part things are better. Controlling your character with the gamepad is effortless and dungeon raiding with four players in co-op is a an amazing experience. It feels a little odd to say, but Diablo's true home is on your TV.

The idea of having the boy and girl only visible in the rain is in of itself a brilliant idea. The same goes for the games theme of childhood with strays of nostalgia. But Rain still suffers from some clumsy moments that pulls focus away from the larger story. It’s a pleasant little game that does a lot of great things, but it never really reaches full potential.

Fond memories of older games can oftentimes come to shatter when revisited but The Wind Waker still shines bright even after ten years. It is almost hard to believe the game is even that old. The battles, the dungeons and the sidequests are all still top notch and wrapped in timeless cartoon graphics. Have you not yet been enchanted by The Wind Waker then now is a better time than ever.

Beyond: Two Souls is a capital failure as both a story and as a game. The adventure plays itself and the player is left to push the right buttons in the right order. The story you are rewarded with is a mess of odd writing and poor directing choices from a game creator that obviously wants to create great art but seems to be incapable of doing so. Even fans of Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain should prepare for what is unfortunately a monumental disappointment.

It’s just hard to grasp how Telltale manages to do it. Because in record time they have a game that seems if not more promising than The Walking Dead. The Wolf Among Us is a dark mystery with well-written dialogue and fantastic characters. It is game that shouldn’t be missed by anyone.

Codemasters continues to deliver solid sequels that take small steps forward. The races and challenges are as rewarding here as ever but the classic mode is far too hollow to make a larger impression. F1 2013 is otherwise a solid and stuffed racing game but with little to offer owners of last years model.

Sonic Lost World has its problems. The controls are imprecise and the difficulty somewhat uneven. But it is still one of the better Sonic games in later years with some great level design. It is not the best platform game out there but well worth a closer look.

Montague’s Mount is a pretty unique experience with a celtic theme and a good atmosphere. The puzzles are somewhat generic, the controls sluggish and the current version of the game is riddled with bugs. But all in all fans of the genre should still find a lot to enjoy here.

Rome II is somewhat of a disappointment. The great battles the series is known for are still here, but they are far too easy to master. The series AI has always been a problem and that still remains. Instead it’s the game outside of the battles that draws you in with the politics and diplomacy of the Roman empire.

Dead Island Riptide walks the same path as its predecessor. Another tropical island filled with boring mission design and loads of filler time in the form of traveling between different locations. And like last time it is still quite entertaining. At least with a couple of friends.

The Chase Begins makes an effort of being like the Lego City game for the Wii U. Sadly it is quite obvious that the 3DS can’t realise the LEGO universe as well. The city is in itself nice but empty and desolate. Discovering secrets is still as fun as always but the lack of personality and humour halts the Lego games otherwise great sense of immersion.

Soul Sacrifice is a heavy action-rpg with a great moral choice system. Even if the camera controls are poor and there are a few graphical quirks the developer Marvelous AQL delivers an awesome game with lots of replayability. If you own a PS Vita you owe yourself to play this game.

Defiance may be an ambitious project. Linking an online action game with a TV-series is a smart idea but one that here mostly comes of as a mere gimmick. The story is unengaging and the action mediocre and monotonous. Not to say anything about the myriad of bugs that utterly destroys the experience.

Star Trek is a game with a lot of potential. None of which is being used. The game design is old, incomplete and riddled with bugs. The actors make a decent job and the co-op mode is alright but that is the only good things worth mentioning about this otherwise bland and forgettable tie-in to the movie.

Metro Last Light improves on several of the originals shortcomings but also has a few of its own. Mainly the artificial intelligence needs lots of work otherwise Metro Last Light with its hybrid of quality action and engaging storytelling would maybe have been one of the best games of the year.

The second entry in the Sanctum series continues exploring the odd mix of tower defense and first person shooter. The mechanics in the sequel are solid if a bit too simple to invite a deeper engagement. Still as a co-op game it excels in places that few games do.

Donkey Kong Country Returns for the 3DS is basically the same game that launched on the Nintendo Wii for nearly three years ago. The smaller format has made some of the levels harder to navigate but it shouldn’t discourage anyone from checking out this portable version of one of the best platform games of all time.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing does in no way tread new ground in the action genre. But it is still atmospheric and sucks you in with it’s combat and loot system. The online mode suffers from many bugs and the adventure does never reach the heights of games like Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2.

The Swapper is a unique experience that will charm any fan of science fiction as well as fans of games like Braid, Metroid and Castlevania. The game looks and sounds beautiful and the cloning mechanics are both novel, creative and challenging.

Motocross Madness is arcade racing that doesn’t really have much in common with earlier Motocross games. Still it is a pleasant experience, but some pesky bugs holds it back from true greatness.

Castlestorm mixes action and strategy in a tower defense game reminiscent of both roleplaying games, Warcraft and Angry Birds. It’s a mix that is sometimes messy, oftentimes fun and with unexpected amounts of depth and variety in its mechanics.

The Last of Us is a great action-adventure game that manages to capture the feeling of post-apocalypse and survival. The story is alright but way too manipulative and borrows heavily from other, better, material. Still the segmented survival gameplay and the amazing audiovisual production makes the game an experience everybody should check out.

Diggs Nightcrawler is a successful mix of video game and cartoon. The augmented reality works splendidly and is both novel and exciting. The adventure is in itself short and somewhat repetitive. The lower price still makes it a great buy for younger wannabe detectives.
