   EA Sports did not risk much this year, creating a virtually similar hockey experience. I love the physics updates and the new fightingEA Sports did not risk much this year, creating a virtually similar hockey experience. I love the physics updates and the new fighting mechanics, and skating on defense feels much more fluid. Overall, the game is a large patch to NHL 13, which is nowhere near a bad thing as that was the best game at the time.
   
   Pros: Good improvements, fun fighting, new be a pro mode
   
   Cons: Can feel stale if you were an active NHL 13 player, no new presentation… Expand

   I have been playing EA NHL games since 08. I mainly only play online team play (with some HUT). My review is based on that.

   This game bugs the hell out of me starting with the AI defenders. They make bad passes, don't step up on defense while in our zone, don't make ANY smart decisions while in the offense zone and make you scratch your head (or punch your TV) 90% of the time. Example, 10 feet away from the computer skating into the offense zone with no one around me, I need to call for the puck because the computer won't pass and then they make a horrible pass and turn it over while there is nobody on them. Really? That's the kind of crap that turns off people from a video game.
   
   People have learned that you can just skate through people like they aren't there and then use the skate right, shoot left glitch goal (or vice versa) on the computer goalie. That is pretty much the only way people score now especially if you play twos.
   
   If you play with 6 (or 5 and one computer goalie) this game really shines in OTP. Even just having one user defender makes this game MUCH better.
   
   Alas, this game is like a drug. You will get pissed off but you will come back for more because it shines at times. Even with all it's inconsistencies, it is the best sports team game money can buy. If they can fix some of the main issues in the next game, the next game could potentially be one of the best of the series (especially if they make a next-gen version). Skating, shooting, and passing are phenomenal. Still rough around the edges but there is always next year.… Expand

   Honestly, I am a huge NHL fan. From what I have played and seen, it is really just NHL 13 but with a roster update, better hitting, andHonestly, I am a huge NHL fan. If you are looking to get it, don't, just stick with NHL 13 and wait another year or two.… Expand

   In NHL 14 i get so frustrated because of various reasons. First of all, this annoys me the most, is that when playing against another teamIn NHL 14 i get so frustrated because of various reasons. First of all, this annoys me the most, is that when playing against another team whether multi or single player most of the time it doesn't matter how many shots you have taken on goal because sometimes the goalie is just an unreal brick wall. He will not let anything through from one timers to deke. It is simply based on luck based on my gaming experience how many goals you will score in a game. Second, this game is all about hitting. On every play there will plenty of big hits and after some big hits the option to fight shows. This is not realistic at all, you do see hits in real NHL games but not as many as this, not even close. For me, it feels like an arcade game in which your objective is to annihilate other players on the ice. Nhl 13 to 14 went from okay to bad. I mean nhl 14 took away the purpose of the game which is to try to win and changed it to hurting the other players. Anyways another reason why it feels horrible is because when you are the better team and are winning, the game, i guess, try to makes it fair by letting the cpu on your team take penalties constantly and you just start wondering,"what the heck is going on".… Expand

   Honestly it's probably the worst game in the NHL series I have ever played. Feels like an unfinished product, which is beginning to be noHonestly it's probably the worst game in the NHL series I have ever played. Feels like an unfinished product, which is beginning to be no surprise coming from EA(cough Mass Effect 3 cough). The hitting system just seems off, and if somebody doesn't have the puck then they pretty much can't be hit. Additionally, unlike all previous NHL series games I have played, there isn't any hitting after the whistle, which for me takes an element of fun out of the game. Also, the fighting system is... Well there isn't really any better word for it; stupid. It's unrealistic and trying to be something it's not. While I must say the actual mechanics of the fight system are vastly improved, you will find yourself in two to three fights a period and apparently every fight ends in a knockout... I've never seen a knockout in a hockey fight.
   The skating mechanics also seem rather screwy; rather than stop & start or cut turns on sharp angles, the players insist on turning in large loopy manners.
   On a positive note the deking system seems improved and a bit more intuitive, although that's about the only thing I found redeeming about the game.
   And so that's 3 games in a row now, made by EA, that I purchased that have been complete and total letdowns. Too bad NHL 14 wasn't a trilogy game. And so I ask myself, why in the world do I keep purchasing EA games?… Expand

Computer teammates race you to the puck just to skate in front of his own net, turn it over and ur down. Then momentum switches and people can do whatever they want. Ur down 3-0. Im in division one. I have a good club. I hate your game. Most problems ive ever had with any game ever.… Expand
