While the Scale User Interface is the true hero of this release, it would not exist if it weren’t in the service of Baldur’s Gate II and its expansion. If there was ever a good time to replay Shadows of Amn or to sink your teeth into its considerable flesh for the very first time, then it is now.

All in all, Nihilumbra is a short, but fun, puzzle platformer.

But I digress, for those bugs do not take away from my overall impression of King Arthur’s Gold, which is a great multiplayer game that stands out from the crowd by being something that embraces lunacy and remains grounded with simple mechanics that allow for a variety of strategies.

Crusader Kings II is definitely the deepest, and hardest to understand of all the games of its type, but there’s nothing else out there quite like it. The additions brought to the game by Sons of Abraham are plentiful, and probably stretch further than I encountered. It’s a good reason to jump back into the game if you enjoyed the original or any of the prior expansions. For new players though, it’s just as daunting as ever.

There are refinements still to be made but Black Flag is a stunning return to form worthy of any gamer’s time.

Tank Operations: European Campaign turned out to be a little difficult to get into, but once you ‘get it’, it gets you. It’s not fancy and it isn’t breaking any new grounds either, but it knows that and isn’t ashamed of it. All it needs to do is offer turn-by-turn strategic decisions that matter, and it does that very well indeed.

The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing: Complete Pack really is the ultimate Van Helsing experience. It offers all the attractions of the original game, adding enough new flavor to keep you coming back for more.

You get more than a simple head-basher. Instead, you have action, stealth, roleplaying, and even some light strategy that brings out the simulation in survival-sim. Your choices have weight. Zombies are deadly. The good guys don’t always win.

Sid Meier's Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies isn't what I was expecting. It did not have the depth I expected from a Sid Meier game, or the charm of Wings! for that matter.

There are plenty of good hack’n’slash games out there, many involving vampires, and this isn’t one of them.

The foundations are there and the premise is one of the most original we have seen in recent times, but it’s just not quite fleshed out enough.

In an industry with dozens of titles vying for the top spot in their genre, stagnation is a death sentence, and I fear that without a change on par with the Modern Warfare revolution that rose the series to where it is, the spirit of Call of Duty is destined to soon become no more than a ghost.

In the end, Final Exam is a fun multiplayer game and a mediocre single-player game. It aims low, and hits its target, riding on the simple pleasures of mashing buttons and yelling with friends.

There are plenty of other games out there with more interesting puzzles and a more mature storyline. If your kids have a particular penchant for pests though, this might be a decent game to play with them.

If you're planning on buying Battlefield 4 purely for the singleplayer campaign, then I'd strongly advise against it. Yes, the visuals are amazing, audio - especially the voice acting - is top notch and the game runs smoother than the previous instalment in the series. But the story was a little underwhelming, and frankly, a little on the short side. Luckily the multiplayer aspect of the game is superb, making up for any shortcomings of the campaign.

But that aside, NBA 2K14 continues to do the main things right when it comes to a basketball game.

Goodbye Deponia is the last chapter in the Deponia series and without going into any spoilers, I'll tell you this: you have to play this game.

My initially negative impression started to melt away when I reached the second island. I don’t blame myself too much for that, as the game’s presentation at that stage is kind of bland and uninviting and especially its God-awful music needed switching off immediately. But sticking around a little longer, I started to appreciate what the game was trying to achieve; combining the therapeutic fun of slaying zombies with requiring players to apply their brain and look for ways to survive tomorrow as well as today.

It doesn’t look or sound particularly good, there are loads of issues, and there’s barely anything original about it. But when all is said and done, this is still a Tower Defense game.

Overall Deadfall Adventures is a mixed bag that does some things really well, some things so well, and a lot of things pretty average.

Arkham Origins is a very good but very familiar game. It lacks the spice of originality that made the previous two games great.

Lilly Looking Through is a charming little adventure with some unique and interesting mechanics that doesn’t quite do enough to become great. It’s short and sweet, but it’s hard to know who to market the game to.

Marlo Briggs and the Mask of Death is an action packed, brain-dead, budget thriller and if you are looking for a cheap release for all that repressed adrenaline, you will definitely be able to find worse things to do with your money. If, however, you are looking for a challenge to your intellect or a test of your skills, look elsewhere. The only thing Marlo Briggs will challenge is your patience.

I’m not sure there is enough extra content to warrant a purchase from FIFA 13 unless you’re a diehard fan and want the up to date player lists, but if it’s been a couple of years since you’ve looked at a FIFA title, then there is no reason why you shouldn’t be getting FIFA 14.

Glare is a solid game. It does what it sets out to do, it just doesn’t really do anything more.

Despite its issues, The Dark Eye: Demonicon remains a fun adventure that, while lacking polish, is an enjoyable journey through The Dark Eye setting.

It has some faults, but for the most part you’ll have a good time fighting and thinking your way through this game’s many levels.

As a first entry in a five episode series, The Wolf Among Us: Faith is an exciting game.
