Far Cry 2 scores right in the core area of first-person-shooters: action. Players who like some logic and a good story even in a first-person-shooter will have their problems with Far Cry 2. Ubisoft's Africa is beautiful, but life in all its glory is missing most of the time. Travelling takes a long time and you are forced to make absurd detours because of mountains and valleys. Far Cry 2 can be reproached with a lot of things, but once the Savannah is burning they are forgotten, at least temporarily, because fighting the APF and UFLL is so much fun.

It is a pity that these great mechanics are not underpinned by better modes.

Alone in the Dark is a perfect example of how to stage games: a story with twists, fantastic scripts and interesting characters. It could be a great cocktail of action and horror, but it comes with a bad aftertaste. Every minute obvious design errors can be observed. This could have been avoided with two more months of development time. Players who are easily frustrated should wait until patches fix the problems.

Indeed, it grieves me that Remedy has placed the survival horror passages comparatively unloving and exhausting in the game, but anger quickly fades behind the the fantastic story. Other developers may gladly follow its example.

Because the core of My Friend Pedro is its aestheticized, cartoony action, complemented by amazingly well integrated into the game design puzzles and a wonderfully trashy story - and thus the banana ballet hits me completely on the bullseye.

This independent game is a creative jewel, so motivating and full of love for details, that it puts multi-million-dollar-games to shame. Braid shows how to create an amazing game using the right ideas.

Metaphor: ReFantazio aims for too much at first but turns out to be a variety-packed adventure with the usual Atlus mix.

It may be overwhelming for beginners, but it offers months of fun for veterans of the genre. It doesn't change a lot compared to the first installments, but why change good things that work?

I'd be lying if I said that I did not have fun with Shadow of Mordor, because it kept me entertained for 30 hours. Not on a superior level, but on a good, technically flawless one, whose objective quality one must be soberly recognized. But it has never affected me emotionally in that time, never surprised me, never gave me the feeling that I'd just played something special, something unique, something remarkable.

Of all the current space strategy games Sins of a Solar Empire is my favorite.

This game shows how beautiful two-dimensional games can be. Physics, graphics and music all have been created with affection. Trine could have been a bit more challenging and funny, but if you liked World of Goo, this is a game for you.

Turbine adds Mirkwood to the game and with it came a lot of things to do for veterans. There are thrilling situations, cool instances and motivation until the end, so boring collect and destroy quests can be forgiven.

If you don't know the original game from 1994, you should play at the easiest level to understand the complex economy. There are three other nations competing with you to colonize the New World, the native Indians and, last but not least, the King of your nation in the Old World. The Independence War is one of the most entertaining ways to end a campaign ever seen in this genre. The game may not be perfect, but it's a motivating and challenging strategy game.

Astonishing action journey through a gorgeous universe with daring flight manoeuvres, cool space battles and an intriguing heroine.

The Forza Horizon DLC Rally Adventure delivers entertaining drifting action and excellent tracks but is only a short-lived delight.

Turn-based strategy with a motivating management mode and an exciting campaign for Mech fans who like to adjust their units in detail.

The size of the world is stunning and it's a good racing game, but the controls and the little bit disappointing multiplayer mode are the reasons it's not a great game.

Battle system, diversity, soundtrack, graphics, size... all on a very high level. Bastion shows that small development teams with a small budget can deliver large, diverse and polished ganmes.

It's more than just an XCOM clone. Hard West is Wild West mystery with tactics, depth and death. It only fails with regard to long-term motivation.

Need for Speed finally finds its way back on track and is especially worthwhile for solo racers who enjoy a well thought-out campaign.
