The fancy technology powering the experience is impressive, as is the performance by actors who lent their voices and likenesses to the game's pivotal characters. That's mixed with rote game mechanics -- hack, slash, fight big boss, level ends -- that can easily grow tiresome, and a leveling up system that's more distraction than a way to create a customized character.

Thanks to a gripping story, furious gunplay and cool multiplayer, Call of Juarez makes for a smart rental.

A likable (if not quite memorable) game for the Nintendo DS. The presentation could've use a little sprucing up and some parts of the story stretch on for way too long (such as the school segments).

It may not contain the addictive "party" element of Nintendo's Wii Sports, but this Playground isn't a bad place for kids and their parents to hang out.

Although the game doesn't go the extra mile like other current-generation versions on store shelves, Madden NFL 08 still provides a solid game of football.

We love the online play, Superstar moves and homage to Sega games like Sonic, The House of the Dead, Samba de Amigo and Jet Set Radio. It's fan service all the way. But the lack of a World Tour mode and ease of difficulty cripples the game's long-term appeal.

It's not cool getting all the way to the end of a dish and losing because of some tech failure. But for the most part, things work quite well, and Cooking Mama is a steal at $19.99.

Blurry textures, an average story and Peter Parker's voice gets on our nerves, but overall, Web of Shadows is a cool Spider-Man adventure and much better than the horrid "Spider-Man 3."

Although 1701 A.D. doesn't feature any new gameplay concepts, it remains a solid economic strategy game that's easy enough for most players to pick up and get sucked into.

Play at your own pace and forgive the technical quirks, though, and you'll appreciate this game for what it is.

Packed with high-speed chases, car combat (you can bump rivals into walls) and ridiculous explosions, the game's still far from perfect. Sloppy looking characters, excessive loading and average on-foot shooting keep it several steps behind the competition. As a rental, however, Wheelman offers some decent thrills.

The graphics look very good on the PSP, particularly with the enormous level layouts and smooth animations of the Prince and his dark side. However, the game has bugs, the most notable being flickering and poor looking textures. The audio has its problems as well.

The puzzles are creative, but quickly grow repetitive. More so, Prism's presentation seems to have gotten very little love from the developers, and players can expect to see the same relatively dark visuals throughout the entire game.

Dark Legend attractive visuals often force the action to chug, an overabundance of minions makes the game far too easy and at times incompetent artificial intelligence forces you to reissue the same commands to brain dead minions. If you can deal with those issues, then you'll probably enjoy this dark and destructive adventure.

This is great, but expect repetitive block smashing and item collecting that, in this third LEGO game, has overstayed its welcome.

The game lacks a hardcore presentation to go with the theme, but that's only a small issue, since this is definitely the best SingStar to date.

With new characters, maps and modes, along with the ability to play against players who still play the original, there is plenty to enjoy assuming you like the first game.

With tricks that'll have even the greatest magicians scratching their heads and demanding the DS for their own, Master of Illusion is a great way to add a little magic to your life.

The game doesn't boast a lot of depth, and it does not contain the same flair that its sister games have, but it still presents polished gameplay and plenty of replay value, so long as friends want to join in for some multiplayer sessions.

While not everything works well (particularly the small tracks and the insanely difficult artificial intelligence), it is better than expected. The graphics look very good, especially the water effects.

The run-in combos take some momentum out of the game, and some characters are unquestionably lame (cough Stryker cough), but this game still knows how to pack a bloody uppercut. Finish him!

If anything, multiplayer feels tacked on. Ultimately, Wolfenstein is a decent shooter full of explosions, machine guns and plenty of drama. Just don't expect it to wow you.

On top of that, the game looks horrendous, with primitive computer generated cut scenes (hello 1998) and one of the lamest backgrounds we've seen.

The luscious graphics do bring out the finer qualities of the anime, complete with striking water-brushed backdrops and fluid animation. It's a shame the camera constantly needs to be adjusted, though.

We don't like the story, save for the talking banana aliens (fo fanana), and the whole peg grabbing stuff doesn't light our fire, but Jungle Climber is a cute, simplistic adventure game that anyone can get into, and the addition of four person multiplayer adds to its banana eating appeal.

The graphics look decent (despite some broken animations), and the game allows players to smash both Orcs and Hobbits. That said, the mindless button mashing grows redundant and some enemies are mind-numbingly difficult.

The PSP's inability to match the functionality of the PlayStation 2's Dual Shock controller causes some problems and the degree of control accomplished by developer Kojima Productions under the circumstances speaks volumes of their expertise, but the results aren't perfect.

The multiplayer modes aren't bad, but you have to unlock most of them and they're strictly off-line.
