King K. Rool is up to no good again, and it’s up to Donkey Kong to swing into action. Using the same simple control scheme that made the DK: King of Swing Game Boy Advance SP game so accessible and fun to play, players of all skill levels can swing and climb to new heights made possible by the dual screens of Nintendo DS. Adventure mode features Diddy Kong as a sub-character, and players can look forward to new moves, new items and a bunch of minigames sure to make them go bananas. Not only that, but fun tutorials that ease new players into the game also can be accessed as minigame challenges. If players are more in the mood to rumble, they can take on up to three pals in fun multiplayer challenges using DS Download Play and the DS Local Area Network. They can pick from Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong or Funky Kong, and let the monkey business begin. [Nintendo] Expand

  1. This is a pick-up-and-play game in its purest form, albeit with a uniquely tropical control set-up that hasn’t been utilised anywhere else before, sans its neglected prequel.

Gameplay that's as pure and refreshing as a glass of cold banana juice on a summer's day. [JPN Import; Nov 2007, p.60]

Once again, the Big N delivers with a unique gameplay experience, visuals that are, in the very least, fun, music and sound effects that hark back to a simpler time and any gamer's holy grail - a giant, luminous space banana. Happy climbing!
  4. As it is, it's a game that veers between excellence and anguish a little bit too often.
  5. The unique control scheme makes for an interesting change and a lot of fun, while the extra challenge modes provide incentive for much replay.
  6. Though this peg-swinging sequel to an average, what-it’s-name spin-off had just about everything against it, somehow nearly everything is executed with a full swing.
  7. Challenge mode offers a few uninspired minigames like banana catching and log hopping.

I had a TON of fun with this game. It is one of these games that just feels great when you play it. You just want to jump and climb from wall to wall because it simply feels great.

I can recommend it with confidence for anyone who wants to try a different kind of gameplay.

    Underrated high-skill cap title.
    K. Rool makes a return, story is pretty interesting, something you could also see in the Country series.

    K. Rool makes a return, story is pretty interesting, something you could also see in the Country series. Mechanics are original, my only issue with this game is that it's way too hard at some point. Some nerfs here and there would have made this game even better imo.

The gameplay is really fun and had my attention throughout a good majority of the game, the soundtrack is a generally fun listen, and the characters were really enjoyable. Overall really fun time and improvement over a game that I already had a lot of fun with. It's not amazing, but I liked it. Expand

The game was honestly really fun though and I could see my self going back one day to try it. The problem is that this game alone was one of the main reasons my shoulder buttons failed on my original ds. This game became a joke for that reason, the killer of shoulder buttons Expand

Well if you consider awkward controlsA sequel to the the GBA title "DK:King of Swing" is not exactly what the DS needed. Is it fun at least? Well if you consider awkward controls with a silly-bland story than be my guest. The story is that DK and his friends find an alien banana hybrid who says that his crystal coconut was stolen by King K. Rool. So as any of you would expect, DK decides to find it and get it back.

This game has weird controls, you use the D-Pad to move, press R and L together to jump and also use R and L to climb. It already sounds difficult. And it is very difficult. Boss Battles are a prime example of this. It's like trying to shoot a moving target with an arrow blind. I barely got past the first boss. And not to mention there are collectables like DK coins you collect in every level. So good luck to you completionist!

This is probably one of DK's more pitiful games, I must give credit though for putting bonus content and multiplayer, but it doesn't make up for it's amount of difficulty with the controls, as well as the controls themselves.
