FIFA Ultimate Team is once again the best feature of EA Sports’ game, and the main reason why PES – even while offering the best gameplay in history – will never be able to compete with FIFA. [12/2019, p.67]

The main feature of the add-on – the quest cards – is poorly balanced (some rewards are highly disappointing). Still I recommend Journey to Un’Goro as it manages to breathe some fresh air into meta-game. [06/2017, p.51]

While I hoped for a more narrative-centric experience this time, thanks to a plethora of new mechanics The Last Autumn is still a great add-on that enriches both the gameplay and Frostpunk’s lore. [03/2020, p.80]

It definitely starts better than it ends. While I was truly dazzled by the beginning, the finale – a bit different than previous missions – for me was rather a case of reviewer’s obligation. [12/2019, p.56]

Spellbreak tries to reinvigorate the worn-out battle royale genre by ditching guns and fortifications in favor of an excellent magic combat system (combining spells works great!) supported by remarkable character mobility. The result is a frenetic, very satisfying game. And it’s free, so it’s easier to turn a blind eye to the fact that the map is large but empty, and there isn’t even a simple chat system to make communication within the team easier. [12/2020, p.37]

Civilization VII commits the greatest sin of all strategy games - it's boring. A few tweaks to the formula have worked out well for the series, but this is the moment for either a major revolution or the development of well thought-out mechanics that worked in Civilization VI. No more half-measures.

I’m glad the developers decided to introduce some substantial changes, especially that improvements were made where they were really needed. Controls are much more intuitive and the whole grappling system was redesigned. If you’re looking for a realistic fighting game, pick up UFC 2. [05/2016, p.66]

Battle for Azeroth offers everything you could expect from a World of Warcraft expansion, but its scale is visibly smaller than Legion’s and there’s no truly new quality here. All that doesn’t change the fact that the charm of this extraordinary MMORPG appeals to me almost as strongly as 13 years ago. [10/2018, p.42]

Capcom wanted to fuse two popular series about hunting monsters and somewhat succeeded. In terms of technicalities the game is far ahead of Pokémon Sun/Moon, but lacks even a fraction of its depth. [12/2017, p.45]

I really wanted CoD’s return to World War II to be something more than a solid game – but it’s not. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’ve already seen all this, that the developers (or perhaps the publisher) chose to create something as safe as possible. There’s just one campaign mission that surprised me with its scale, the rest is just a disappointing “best of Call of Duty”. The multiplayer is as good as usual, but it was infused with unnecessary systems resembling mobile titles, e.g spending in-game currency on pointless tasks of the “kill 100 enemies” variety. Missions that make you watch other players open their loot boxes are the pinnacle of absurdity. [13/2017, p.64]

The main difference between the remake and the original game is that the latter was outstanding for its time, while the Definitive Edition is “merely” good. Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. What’s crucial here is the fact that Hangar 13 approached the original’s narrative with proper respect and refrained from changing it too much. Mafia: Definitive Edition might not be remarkable as an open-world action game, but it still has the story worthy of the most revered gangster movies. [12/2020, p.28]

Most Wanted works best when you treat it like mobile games – switch it on for 15 minutes, do a random race with a random car and then turn it off. It's a good arcade racing title closely resembling Burnout: Paradise but it's not exceptional. [CD-Action 13/2012, p.52]

Golf Story came out of nowhere and stole my heart with its original sense of humor, use of HD Rumble, cute visuals and multitude of ideas for using golf in most unconventional ways. Don’t get discouraged by the whole golf thing though, as Sidebar’s game is actually a really good RPG that happens to borrow it’s mechanics from golf titles. [13/2017, p.50]

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’ main feature is its wacky humor – you’ll either love it or find it cringy and annoying. I enjoyed the game mainly because I liked the way it makes fun of RPG clichés, but when I was not laughing, the excitement was gone instantly. It’s still a solid shooter but I’m already tired of the Borderlands gameplay formula and this spin-off does too little to shake things up, even though its setting offered a huge potential to do so.

My first impression of Curse of the Dead Gods was that someone mixed Hades with Darkest Dungeon. However, such a simplification would be unfair, because the game does more than just borrow successful mechanics. It adds its own interesting ideas to the mix and the result is a pretty dungeon crawler with an intuitive and satisfying combat system. The environments could use more variety and I would welcome a story to follow while hacking and slashing, but overall Curse of the Dead Gods is a great, highly addictive game. [05/2021, p.46]

The game is a technological marvel but although David Cage’s storytelling has an ideal pace and the way the story branches out depending on your choices is praiseworthy, his writing is childishly naïve. His vision of Detroit is unconvincing from the ground up and all his characters are merely crude, threadbare archetypes, which made it impossible for me to suspend disbelief. What’s more, the game touches a sensitive problem of discrimination but doesn’t have the courage to take any stand, leaving us with a lukewarm tale about robots, told with clichés and truisms. A horror game disguised as a dating sim. First couple of hours are boring and written poorly to the degree of being hard to digest for me, then things get better, but the story is still shallow and the substance plays second fiddle to the form. [01/2018, p.61]
