It is also the best game in the series, regardless of whether you’re inclined to avoid violence and solve problems DedSec style (by hacking), or prefer to unleash a hail of bullets. The new character class (the Final Girl) quickly became my favourite and I think I enjoyed this well-written, fun slasher parody more than The Fractured but Whole itself. The DLC is quite short (I did everything there was to do in three hours), but I actually appreciated that, as I found the original campaign to be dragged out mercilessly and pointlessly. Thronebreaker is a feast for those collectible card games fans who don’t care for online play or tournaments and instead would like to follow a well-written story that introduces an array of vivid characters and presents you with tough choices. [12/2018, p.56]

Mario Golf: Super Rush is a solid game with hints of Camelot’s past RPG prowess. While the new features are hit-and-miss and the story mode is a bit too basic, it’s the core gameplay that has made this series shine, and Super Rush is no exception. [09/2021, p.48]

The Bard’s Tale IV is like a beautifully composed song performed on out of tunes instruments. There are moments when it borders on genius, other times it actively encouraged me to uninstall and forget it. For every strength it has a weakness. Good writing, superb puzzles, great music, outstanding voice-overs and solid mechanics are counterbalanced by quite awful visuals (how can Unreal Engine 4 look so bad?), some examples of bad design, a truckload of bugs (how about skills that don’t work or the ability to loot a chest through a ceiling?) and frequent crashes. For me the advantages were what mattered more, but I completely understand scores in the region of 4/10. [12/2018, p.58]

It’s a pity that Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t look like this at launch. However, Phantom Liberty works great not only as a showcase for the Update 2.0 which completely overhauled the game, but also on its own, as a powerful spy story with tough choices and outstanding Idris Elba as Solomon Reed. Overall, CD Projekt Red has again released a DLC superior to the base game.

Wulverblade’s creator’s passion for ancient Britain’s history is obvious and it makes the game feel special even though underneath its educational layer you’ll find just a simple beat ‘em up. Its mechanics are not overly deep, but the fluidity and savagery of combat makes butchering large, beautiful sprites a true joy. [05/2018, p.46]

I was pleased with Mankind Divided. I had to play it in long, intense sessions to meet the deadline and I wasn’t tired of it even for a minute. The new Deus Ex is not a breakthrough in any respect, but all the great qualities of the previous game are here and they still work great. [10/2016, p.34]

No surprises here – and that’s why I’m somewhat disappointed. Diablo IV is a really well-designed game with many undeniable strengths, including dark atmosphere, attractive graphics and decent story, and it’s going to appeal to many fans of the series. What I regret is Blizzard’s lack of courage to push the boundaries and deliver something refreshing.

It’s more a fitness suite than game but it’s the ‘game’ part that draws the players in – and does it quite well. Right now it might be the best invitation for the players to get up from the couch and just move. [02/2020, p.60]
