Nostalgic Software’s latest game may just seem like another endless runner and that’s because at its heart it is. It offers no revolutionary concepts in terms of music and gameplay, yet the familiar concepts that are on offer are honed in on well. With some cracking humour to be had along the way, Kung Fu Fight! is very much like a strong kick to the head. You’ll notice it at first, but ultimately it’s not memorable.

    Koi
Overall Koi is an okay game with some nice ideas and pleasant visuals. The game is on the short side and the gameplay doesn’t really offer enough to keep you absorbed and there isn’t any real sense of urgency or challenge. The game may have been better if the ideas had been pushed further, maybe with some sort of story or gameplay variation that felt more impactful or interesting.

VEV: Viva Ex Vivo is an interesting experience. In a lot of ways it’s different from anything I’ve experienced in recent gaming history. It’s also very interesting and at least somewhat educational. But it needs tuning. Someone really needs to just sit down and give it a triple-A comb over. It doesn’t need more levels or plot or anything like that. They just need to add in some goals so that you aren’t just floating around for no reason 30 minutes at a time.

Anomaly 1729 clearly had real talent and effort put into it. There is a really solid piece for the puzzle genre here. Some of the ideas, like the paced decoding of the language, are downright brilliant. The problem is that the level of technical polish is dismally low, and while none of that is really deal-breaking, the amount of sharp edges is rather trying for a 15$ game.

7 Days to Die is a lo-fi, budget survival-horror sandbox that surprisingly breathes some new life into the tired zombie template. It’s a powerful example of how a game, even when executed without the technical wizardry of big AAA publishers, can become a canvas for your own personal stories. Grand Prix Rock’n Racing is game at war with itself. Its semi-realistic handling belies its arcade presentation, and its AI and physics are constantly battling the player, almost penalising players for upgrading their vehicle as higher speeds result in more unpredictable and inconsistent physics. It’s a real shame as the game really does have potential, with its nice feeling of progression in its upgrade system and a variety of fun and interesting tracks, but its flaws are too many and too great to fully recommend the game to anyone, regardless of whether they enjoy racing games or not, although it is cheap enough for an impulse buy some day, if you’re desperate enough for a new racer.
