    VEV's low price tag is a plus, as is the unique concept behind the game. You should keep in mind though that VEV also offers extremely repetitive gameplay and controls that don't always work the way they should.

    Viva Ex Vivo is back. It was always waiting for PlayStation VR and now it feels like an essential purchase if you’ve got some spare change in your PSN account. It’s still a shallow, and occasionally obtuse, game but now it’s a good one.

    VEV: Viva Ex Vivo is an interesting experience. In a lot of ways it’s different from anything I’ve experienced in recent gaming history. It’s also very interesting and at least somewhat educational. But it needs tuning. Someone really needs to just sit down and give it a triple-A comb over. It doesn’t need more levels or plot or anything like that. They just need to add in some goals so that you aren’t just floating around for no reason 30 minutes at a time.

    All in all, VEV: Viva Ex Vivo is quite a conflicted game. It gives the impression that it wants to be quite a laid back, almost zen-like experience, yet it’s frustratingly challenging. It’s also as clear as mud when it comes to explaining itself, revelling in throwing science jargon at you to the point where it overcomplicates matters; it’s essentially quite a simple survival game.

    I absolutely adore VEV: Viva Ex Vivo‘s concept, which only serves to make me more disappointed in the final release. Exploring these different microscope slides should be exciting, but instead players are left frustrated due to awkward controls and bored by how little there is to do.

It's a little obtuse at first because It drops you right into the thick of things and makes you figure it out on your own. This is probably the biggest criticism you can level at a game like this. The barrier to understanding things is a little high, but once things click ithe experience is incredibly rewarding. Levels are either survival or exploration, and while the game has those levels labeled clearly I think having the difficulty levels as part of the description would help orient newer players. That being said, if you can get past those issues, this game is more than worth your time and money. The graphics are among the best for PSVR, the music is reactive to the situation and is actually catchy, and it is one of the few games that enables full freedom of movement in 3D space. You start out slow, and you absolutely have to kick up your turning speed to survive in later levels, but when you do it turns into what amounts to a dogfight with other bacteria. Getting anywhere with the food collection / score building aspect relies on actually saving up your food before converting it to energy, which introduces a nice risk-reward element that can really build the tension in the survival stages. All in all, for the price, this is a must have if you have PSVR, and anyone looking for something a little off the beaten path.… Expand

Unfortunately this is one of the most repetitive games I've played in years. Floating around collecting small particles is ok for 5 minutes, but VEV uses the exact same gameplay mechanic for the entire game with essentially zero change. I somewhat enjoyed the first 5 minutes, I endured the following 55 minutes, I regretted purchasing it for all the minutes since.… Expand

    WTH is this game? I don't know. I put it in for a few minutes, couldn't figure it out and immediately turned off and deleted it. Avoid.
