One of the most innovative building strategy games in recent years plays very well on consoles. And you have the added bonus of having all add-ons at your disposal, while most of the minor problems that plagued the PC version in the beginning were addressed.

The mechbuilding is kinda cool, and so ist controlling these metal monsters. Unfortunately the action is rather mundane and set in pathetic areas.

No multiplayer, but a multitude of point- and currency-systems. Even though you can unlock a lot for free, the finance model takes a toll on the game design – too much to make this an entertaining party game.

Visually dowdy, full of grind and filled with daft decisions for the couch co-op. Even if you are a hardcore-fan of the franchise, you don’t need this. Even less, if you are looking for a decent twinstick shooter.

FIFA 20 stagnates on a solid level. Volta can’t utilize the fresh potential of street football enough while on the pitch the balance between offense and defense is missing.

Northgard looks good and plays well on Switch. The building strategy sports a clever control scheme and ships with all updates. Nonetheless it still keeps some minor flaws.

If you like games like The Witness, The Talos Principle or Obduction, this solid puzzle-adventure might scratch your itch.

This a very good fight-focused action-adventure. It has some flaws in terms of storytelling as well as visually, but makes up for that with an excellent level design, exploration and motivating character development.

A tactical 2D dungeon crawler that doesn’t even try to hide that it was heavily inspired by Darkest Dungeon. But neither mechanically, in terms of storytelling nor artistically it is nowhere near its role model.

Minimalistic, but quite funny: Attack of the Squirrels connects VR- with smartphone-gamers.

It has some mechanical shortcomings and the character behaviour could be more realistic-. But nonetheless GreedFall delivers an atmospheric roleplaying experience with an interesting story set in a baroque fantasy world.

Overall the Switch port of Bulletstorm is technically sound, but sometimes shows its ugly face with bland textures. At its core it is still one of the most entertaining and unusual shooters around, but lacks not only multiplayer-capability but a certain swag to go with it.

Quite fascinating mix of dungeon action and pinball-ish brawling.

Gears 5 delivers an entertaining campaign with surprisingly open areas, excellent visuals and a bunch of fun (and sometimes fresh) multiplayer modes. But it also suffers from technical glitches and bugs.

The botanical garden is a better fit for the citybuilding world of Anno 1800 than the sunken treasures. Still fresh production lines or new goods are dearly missed.

Mechanically you can feel the age of the originals here and then. But visually you can’t tell them apart from contemporary action-adventures - even though they are rough around the edges on Switch sometimes.

While the resource collection is quite motivating and delivers a tense experience, the shooter shows some flaws and the pay-to-win option is simply aggravating.

With Iceborne, Capcom not only opens a new everfrost hunting area, but improves the game overall.

WoW Classic is a great trip down memory lane into a more quiet but also more rugged Azeroth, including all classic problems and faults.

This is thoroughly entertaining, surprisingly well conceived fantasy tactics with a focus on depth. This is a breath of fresh air that doesn’t rely on the typical rock-paper-scissors mechanics.

At its core, this mixture of action-adventure, evolution and prehistoric survival is interesting, but held back massively by a bunch of cumbersome and badly explained mechanics as well as clumsy controls.

A great competitive shooter if you are willing to invest time and can accept the slow character progress.

The constant hunt for the bigger better loot shows its age here and then - but still packs quite a punch. Just don’t expect a local co-op mode.

Wreckfest on consoles remains a steady source of destructive racing fun.

With smart enhancements and general improvements Beyond is even better then Next, while the PSVR-enhancements literally give this game a new dimension.

Story and world lore could be more defined, but Remnant delivers an adrenaline-fueled intelligent adventure - kind of Dark Souls with brute shooter flair.

Mystical, but sometimes bland and generic action rpg from the makers of I am Setsuna delivering solid entertainment.

Inspired by games like Journey or Limbo, Lone Sails draws you in on Switch with charming music and an expressive art design. An emotional trip through an apocalypse void of humans.

Quite some un-intense idling, frustrating script bugs and some plainly disruptive elements will leave you disillusioned and horrified for all the wrong reasons.

Atlus could have taken the easy way out and simply release the old game with improved visuals - and that would have been a hit. But add to that new story elements, freshly produced cutscenes, revamped puzzles and a third women inserted into this beautifully weird love story, you’ll get an instant classic.

This might as well be Platinum’s most ambitious game yet. And while they definitely don’t hit every mark, the technical achievement and the mix of varied elements will help you over a few shortcomings.

For the start of this anthology Supermassive Games serves up a short, but intense horror-trip that will draw some comparisons to Until Dawn, but show offs interesting multiplayer options.

In theory Erica shows off a very interesting plot. The picturization, though, is unemotional and rigid.

On one hand Remedy shows off nicely executed action mixing ballistic and supernatural elements in destructible environments, while on the other presenting unusual design flaws. But everything is kept together by a good script that draws inspiration from David Lynch and the likes.

Trover is totally wacky - which makes this such an entertaining VR experience.

This re-imagination of the SNES classic ActRaiser feels sluggish and superficial.

The turn-based tactics are deep and challenging, in short: on top of their game. Everything else though, from the narrative to most of the boring side-quests, is hit-and-miss.

The physics system is convincing, but VR implementation is as lackluster as the amount of content.

Visually this interactive experience directed by Heavy Rain’s David Cage and starring Elaine Page as well as Willem Dafoe is stunning, but the mechanics as well as the narrative are mostly average.

The visceral VR action places itself somewhere between The Matrix’ Neo, Max Payne and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid, but is held back slightly by the technical limitations of PlayStation VR.

Fast and precise old-school shooter, sometimes not challenging enough and with redundant enemy waves, but also filled with imaginative locations and spacious levels.

If you miss your daily dose of Advance Wars or need more in the likes of Wargroove, this is a definite recommendation. A charming and varied turn-based strategy.

In a lot of detail areas far better than its predecessor the rather disappointing fight system as well as the story structure and execution with its boring dialogue boxes hold this worldbuilder back.

In addition to the framerate issues non-existent in its PS4- or One-siblings and the non-optimized controls, some probably well meant gameplay additions backfire, making this the least desirable entry in the Re-Mars-tered versions.

If you are desperately waiting for a game that captures the spirit of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night almost to the dot, look no further. It has its flaws, but it is exactly what Koji Igarashi promised to deliver: A game from IgaVania-Fans for IgaVania fans.

While the concept with its “groundhog day of destruction” is intriguing, the technical as well as mechanical execution is not.

A neat collection of JRPG classics for Switch, a little light on extra content though.

With way more content than the similar Pokémon Go and a lot of fanservice it Wizards Unite generates a truly magical atmosphere. But the constant reminder of microtransactions as well as technical shortcomings make it difficult to stay attached.

While the basic content with its Yakuza-like mechanic, but a new interesting portagonist is still entertaining, even though it doesn’t stray too far from its roots, it is the optional DLC that leaves a bad taste.

In terms of content and mechanically identical to the previously releases Switch version, the card battles with their simple ruleset suffer only from the rather lackluster port to PC.

This is a stunner. The merger of Crypt of the NecroDancer and Legend of Zelda is a blast to play (as was to be expected) and looks like it jumped straight from the SNES into this era.
