    Beautiful, bright and bold. Wargroove is a fun, tactical war title with a lot of content. It's deep, rewarding, and never overwhelming. Its art style is something to die for and the presentation is beautiful. It does a great job of explaining everything gradually to the player and drip new content and features. Wargroove is a must-buy for fans of the strategy genre.

    Wargroove is the sort of game that brings back a feeling people had long forgot. Advance Wars has been absent for years and, while there were similar sorts of games like Tiny Metal, they didn’t quite capture the same magic. Wargroove does.

    Wargroove manages to overcome Advanced Wars as its spiritual successor. It is genuinely fun and ridiculously pretty to look at. Its simple to get into, but hard to master in the best way possible.

    The multitude of troop types, various win-conditions, and resource management offer complexity, while its turn-based nature and well-explained rules lend an air of approachability. A few bad apples aside, the lengthy story mode presents an abundance of diverse missions that feel challenging but surmountable. Successfully funneling your opponent’s troops into a carefully curated ambush, or coming up with the perfect counter to a particular enemy charge is always deeply rewarding, and the diversity of mission setups keeps the experience interesting throughout. Wargroove successfully revitalizes a largely abandoned style of game with its own unique sense of charm and mechanical innovation.

    Wargroove is finally on PS4, and despite launching with practically no fanfare, it's very much worthy of your attention. The pixelated exterior houses surprisingly deep tactical gameplay that's easy to grasp but will soon give your grey matter a workout. With highly customisable difficulty and a vast range of modes to enjoy, this is a decent turn based strategy game that fans of the genre shouldn't pass up -- although we suspect many will have played it to death already.

    Pues por fín una compañía se digna en sacar al mercado un juego no solo super similar al Advance Wars, sino que ciertas mecánicas, gráficos, modo de juegos y movimientos son iguales que los del clásico de Game Boy.

    Desde el minuto uno en el que empecé a jugar sentí esa nostalgia que hoy día transmiten muy pocos juegos. Es un juego de estrategia bonito, con una mecánica muy sencilla, gráficos pixelart con muchos detalles y tiene una duración bastante notable.

    Este juego ha sido una de las mejores compras que he realizado en los últimos 2 años. A ver si con suerte, sacan próximamente una segunda parte porque a mi ya me tienen como cliente fijo!    … Expand

It won me over with the charming presentation and excellent gameplayA nice turn based strategy game that resembles the „Advance War“ games. It won me over with the charming presentation and excellent gameplay that is well intertwined. Lets start with the gameplay. The battles are set on maps with towns and different terrains. Each town gives 100 gold per turn and the terrains have different defense values. You have a commander that you control. Those are the strongest units with a special ability that is charged up every turn (and also 5% health regeneration per turn). Beware strong means not invincible as those will fall to multiple enemies especially if those are used well. On certain recruiting buildings like barracks or harbors you can create / recruit units. Each unit has different strengths and weakness (efficiency against other units) beside moving range. Also the stronger units cost a lot. A main strength of the game is that each unit has a special condition for improved damage. For example: Pikeman deal more if another pikeman is near them and archers if those did not move before attacking. This gives a lot of tactical options. The campaign does a great job in getting you used to the gameplay. The story is set in the world of Aurania and involves a conflict that escalates. I wont spoil more. It is not a unique story but the charming characters, humor and challenging battles won me over. While the art style is not my favorite the game looks good and the soundtrack is remarkable. I like also the codex that explains a lot (with subtle humor) and the puzzles you can unlock where you are in a set situation and have to win in 1 turn (The later ones are brutal). I will give a bit of advice before my final rating. Use the units properly. That means against units that have a disadvantage and also using the improved damage condition. Your commander can be used for taking damage while your units finish the attackers off. Attacking first decreases damage. Finally a near dead unit can take away enemies attention and you can lure enemies in the range of your units by sacrificing one of your units. Overall this is a great strategy game that won me over easily. Would recommend it on any day.… Expand

The storyline has a lot of heartwarming moments, the art style is bright and beautiful, the music is well-made, and it's clear that the developers poured a lot of love into every part of the game. There are two common complaints I've read about Wargroove. First is that the missions are too lengthy and difficult. In earlier versions of the game, this was true because of the lack of a checkpoint system. However, The developers have patched the game and now players can save mid-battle. I've found that this is extremely helpful. Another common complaint is that levels feel more like puzzles. There is a grain of truth to this, given that there are better and worse ways to get through the levels. Still, I have managed to get many lower scores, indicating that higher scores are possible and that there isn't just one way to play many of the levels. If you are new and haven't played Advance Wars, the difficulty of this game will seem brutal at times. The AI, after all, is tricky and well-designed compared to many strategy games. I'm a veteran of turn based strategy and, on a few early levels, found myself defeated at least a few times. Thankfully, the developers include options to turn down the difficulty without much of a penalty. My main complaint with the game is that some battles seem a little unfair. This is only because enemy units can appear out of nowhere from outside of the map, making them impossible to anticipate. I'm not a fan of this design choice, but it isn't the end of the world either. If you're in the mood for something new and appreciate a quality strategy game that isn't too complex, I wholeheartedly recommend Wargroove.… Expand

The sprites are serviceable, but all the character portraits have these red noses, like they're all alcoholics or something. The game IS very well balanced, but at the cost of not being fun. Battles very quickly transform to "slowly creep forward and win by attrition", which may have been novel in Advance Wars at the time, but is grating here. There's a lot of modes, but really no incentive or drive to play any of them. It's just not very good.… Expand
