The game is artistically wonderful, the gameplay is creative yet not repetitive, and there's replay value for those who want it. I can't praise this fantastic indie platformer enough.

Despite the different worlds, Civiballs lacks the usual vibrancy of similar Chillingo titles. The art is pale and washed out and the characters are lacking any charm or apparent function. That said, the mechanics are so simple and true to life I found myself making a lot more progress than I usually do on brain-benders.

That said, if you want a great bridge builder that creates mind-bending puzzles thanks to things from the Portal series (namely portals), then there’s plenty of reason to pick up Bridge Constructor Portal.

If you are up to a brisk, "top down RPG-ish plane shooter" challenge, then 1951 – World War One may be the perfect game for you. It plays well and it is pretty… what more do you want from an iPhone game?

If you enjoyed the original Chopper, you will absolutely love Chopper 2. The graphics are better, the game is more epic, and most importantly… it's more Chopper.

Wind-Up Knight is a game I have no problem referring to as a "Must Play." It's perfect for short bursts or prolonged sessions. There's a surprising amount of customization. It can be accessible and brutally punishing, depending on what the player wants. This, my friends, is a perfect example of mobile gaming at its finest.

It's hard to tell just what rymdkapsel is with nothing but screen shots to go on, but rest assured that whatever it is, it's awesome.

Hard Lines is a little gem simply put. It's immensely enjoyable offering that 'just one more go' mentality. With its keen sense of humor (right down to the credits song which is very much worth listening to), Hard Lines keeps one step ahead of the pack making it an essential purchase.

Even without a multiplayer mode, Quarrel is a phenomenal game. Frustrations aside, it is so enjoyable and very hard to put down. Strategy and word game fans will both find things to love about this game and players that enjoy both genres will be in heaven.

Mega Run is still a fantastic auto-runner though. The choice for set levels was an inspired one, and it will take plenty of time to play and master them all. The fact that it looks great and has cloud saving is just the cherry on top.

Plants vs. Zombies takes on Hearthstone in a way that is endearing and surprisingly fun.

This kingdom management game stands out by prioritizing its intentional and personal narrative.

Fans of defense games and the geoDefense series will enjoy this.

Monster Burner is a fantastic mix of different game types ensuring that it will appeal to almost everyone. There's even a special mode, alongside the numerous other levels, aimed at children. It's a true must have for all iPad gamers.

This is a game for baseball freaks first and foremost, and those freaks who loved iOOTP 2011 who want 2012 players and tweaked gameplay will want to snatch this one up right away.

Air Mail definitely lives up to the promise that the game had when I first got to play it. This is a fun flying game that has the feel of a Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast classic with its colorful graphics and feel, and it's well worth the premium app price to check it out.

A wonderfully designed shooter that puts the rest of its genre to shame.

The concept is a very good one, and the ability to play levels created by other people is the icing on the cake.

Spaceplan isn't an exceptional clicker. It's an exceptional game that just so happens to be a clicker. It's a game that manages to be smart, funny, beautiful, and strange with a simple set of tools over a relatively short period of time. Most games can't do that. Spaceplan does so effortlessly.

Both the graphics and music were incredible.

Even though Bug Princess 2 is essentially "more of the same," I'm okay with that. Seeing as "the same" equates to an extremely responsive, intense, and downright fun iOS SHMUP I have a hard time viewing that as a bad thing. It might look a tad dated and lack some of the expanded modes of a few of Cave's other titles, but it's still awesome. So. Very. Awesome.

The involved narrative of Ravenmark is the icing on this multilayered strategy cake. The campaign story of political intrigue involving several different nations and subtle plays for power is the extra little push that will keep players hopelessly engaged with this game.

The artwork is very polished and the storyline is original and witty. There is a lot of funny banter between the attorneys at the beginning of each round and it's almost as if the developers hired a screenplay writer to write all the content.

The fighting and avoiding mechanics are a delight to watch and effect as a player, while the high quality production makes the game a must-own for any gaming or Spider-Man fan.

Penumbear is a shadowy puzzle-platformer that succeeds thanks to both the sheer amount of levels and the variety presented within them.

Million Onion Hotel can be a pretty overwhelming experience, but that’s part of what makes it so great. Its gameplay is relatively simple, but it layers on all sorts of crazy visuals and twists on its base mechanics that force you to learn from your mistakes and refine your strategy every time you play. There are some ways in which Million Onion Hotel gets a little too hectic and hard to follow, but I’d much rather that be the case than the alternative. Million Onion Hotel is a totally uncompromising experience, and I certainly respect it for that, even if it can be a little distracting at times.

Flipflop Solitaire is a fantastic version of Solitaire. It switches up the rules in subtle ways that force you to think differently about the classic game. That said, the game’s changes to the basic formula might be a little too nuanced. Flipflop Solitaire doesn’t feel quite as revolutionary as previous Zach Gage releases, but it's a great game if you're looking for a new Solitaire experience.

Worms Crazy Golf is an all-in-one entertainment pack that includes exciting gameplay, exploding worms and some very difficult obstacles to overcome on the way to a hole in one. This game is fun for golfers and non-golfers who don't mind adding a few strokes onto their game to explore the course and unlock a few surprises.

Darkly atmospheric, this auto runner of sorts offers plenty of challenges and excitement, all through the use of one-touch controls.

A great little retro arcade game – and I mean arcade in the truest sense. This feels like something that could have been made in the 1980′s and just recently unearthed. This is 'retraux' in incredibly fine form, and well worth checking out for fans of arcade games and fans of retro-styled games.

Still quite fun, but it isn't entirely fresh. Those looking for new levels with new concepts that explore the familiar formula will enjoy this. Those tired of the game won't find much here to appeal to them.

Those who love games in the line-drawing genre should definitely check this title out. It's a worthy investment which cleverly integrates classic, line-drawing game play philosophies with fast-paced, sometimes hectic, strategy/action.

Those who enjoy combat games or those with a military theme will definitely enjoy Sky Combat. It is fun to play and crash-free; except when the crash is the result of enemy fire.

Something about Sword of Fargoal makes it addicting; the game hearkens back to a day when games had to be truly fun instead of relying on fancy graphics to be taken seriously.

It nails everything a fantastic puzzler should: simplicity, addictiveness, catchy music and overall polish.

SpaceChem isn't the most beautiful of games but it's certainly complex. Controls are easy to use and the concept is perfect for the iPad screen.

Kitten Sanctuary doesn't reinvent the cheese wheel here (sorry), but the game successfully blends classic genres in an unexpected way that kept me playing far longer than I anticipated. It's a solid pick-up for casual gamers and cat ladies alike.

The Sandbox is already one heck of a game, freemium or not, and it has nowhere else to go from here but up.

God of Blades is a great take on the auto-runner genre, and the fact that it absolutely commits to its theme is part of what makes it so much fun. There's nothing quite like it on the App Store, and it's fun to boot.

Don't Starve: Shipwrecked is worth checking out if you like the kind of gameplay that the Don't Starve series offers. This entry does a few new things, but not quite enough to feel like it will win over too many new fans. For me, I respect these games and can have a decent time with them from time to time, but the prospect of restarting on every death fills me with a kind of dread that pushes me away from diving back in.

Even though it's on the easy and short side, there's really nothing quite like Splitter Critters out there. Tearing environment feels amazing and allows for some really creative puzzle design that is delightful to discover. Go play this game. You won't be disappointed.

MUL.MASH.TAB.BA.GAL.GAL's use of Pong mechanics makes it one of the best action-oriented roguelikes on mobile. The game gets appropriately overwhelming and challenging while maintaining a simple control scheme that doesn't rely on virtual buttons or other problematic mobile control schemes. Every time I play it, I feel like there's something new to do or discover, which is a rare thing to say of a game, particularly one that is built on a foundation as simple as Pong.

If you are craving a platformer that pushes your skills to their limits, go pick up Golf Zero or something. The Big Journey just wants you to be happy, and it succeeds at doing that by providing a familiar formula in an adorable package.

In a lot of ways, holedown feels like the mobile game equivalent of comfort food. It’s something that’s extremely enjoyable from time to time, but too much of it may not be the best thing for you. If this fits the bill of what you want in your next mobile game purchase, than go ahead and give holedown a try, but if you’re looking for a substantive experience on your phone, you may want to look elsewhere.

Oceanhorn is a beautiful and ambitious game, but it's missing that special something to make it great.

EA has done a solid job in assuring that Reckless Racing oozes with southern charm, while still delivering a solid, well-polished racing experience.

Thankfully, having long ago lost my need for perfection, I was able to continue ever onward and enjoy the zany story for what it was, moving from colons to brains and many organs between. There is quite a bit to enjoy about Tentacles: Enter the Dolphin, and it has high production values. Just be prepared for some level of frustration.

This puzzle RPG nails its mechanics without any real issues, and does a great job of mixing up the action to keep players on their toes.

Out There is quite an interesting interstellar adventure, but the sheer level of randomness might turn off some players.

This first release of Pillars only begins the story of the novel across its seven initial chapters, but if subsequent entries in the series are anything like this one, you have a lot to look forward to. The simple adventure style really works for a game with such a compelling and unique narrative, to the point that I‘m chomping at the bit to play the next games already.

It's extremely addictive, it has a great Game Center multiplayer mode, and it has moles. Yes, it's also supported by in-app purchases for more gems, but the game hands them out frequently enough for upgrades. This is a fantastic game.

Any Kairosoft App Store release should be an insta-buy for sim fans at this point, and Mega Mall Story is certainly no exception. It's well worth the meager asking price, but buyer beware: it can have a profound effect on productivity. And one's social life.

Twitchy racing aplenty in Proun+, an enjoyably tricky title.

This game is truly fascinating to me: it does so much in its minimalism, comfortable to let the player learn and figure out what it offers. It's a triumph of game design. Play this.

The visuals are cute yet kind of twisted in a way not unlike a 90s Nickelodeon cartoon. Meanwhile, the music perfectly conveys the sense of fast, fun madness the game itself is going for. That's really Zombie Carnaval in a nutshell. It's fun madness, emphasis on fun.

I dare say this is the most accessible and newbie friendly Knizia iOS game yet.

Puzzle games with minimalist styles are all the rage nowadays, and Strata is another solid member of the crowd.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies does the impossible; it turns hours of litigation into an action-packed, exciting game experience.

Having played it on both iPhone and iPad, the game never falters to draw me in and understandably so. Can I go back to playing it now? Good.

A rather solid dual-stick shooter.

An exciting and addictive bike game. Clever gameplay, fluid graphics and challenging levels make Bike Baron an instant classic.

It's a fantastic realization and adaptation of his original "sketch." This is an iOS game worth talking about, and very much worth owning. I'll be buying my own copy once it's released, that's for certain.

Sometimes more of the same is more than enough.

If you have the patience for Antihero, it can be a really rewarding experience. It’s a digital board game that provides a bunch of depth, and it also happens to look and feel pretty polished. The only real problem though is that game times can get really long, even when the results feel all but decided. This can make the game feel ill-suited for mobile, even though it is otherwise looks and feels immaculately made for it.

Capturing the magic of Steve Jackson's Sorcery! novels, the game of the same name is a great addition for adventure game book fans.

A gem of an iOS game. It's got all the pick-up-and-play trappings and super-addictiveness that a successful App Store release needs, wrapped in an incredibly tight package and sold for what I'd consider way too small a price. This is a must-own, people. Seriously.

This competitive, card-based tower defense game crams a lot of depth and satisfying gameplay into small, bite-sized bursts of fun.

It's just hard to come up with a list of complaints about this game, because of how well made it is. Blue Defense: Second Wave is original, intense, addictive, and most of all, fun. Fan of action games on iOS deserve to give this game a shot.

Beyond these flaws, though, Disc Drivin' is easily one of the most addictive games I have ever played on iOS.
