TheWonder Woman beautifully combines fun action sequences and music with an interesting story and characters. It is a super hero movie that surprisingly feels really grounded and relatable, making it easy to fall in love with the characters. The music; along with great cinematography, slow motion, and stunt choreography make the action sequences a blast to watch. It has its moments of over the top comic book action, but it also is not afraid to settle down and focus on more intimate moments. The characterization and dialogue bring a level of humanity and maturity that the DC films have recently been lacking. It is a major improvement over the last few DC films. Let us hope they can continue to have this level of polish in the future. Expand

Yes, another superhero movie, and the titular heroine is not a minor one. WW made her first comics appearance in October 1941 and has been in publication almost continuously after that.
Constant reader has probably noticed that superhero movies are not my cup of tea, mostly because of lack of originality. So many of them are origin stories, like we really cared about how they came about. So many are shamelessly copying each other on grassroots level, especially 2001’s „Iron Man“ which established a blueprint that no one wants to deviate from. And I’m especially tired of big fights which are always consisting of flying through air and punching each other, destroying stuff in the process, including houses. How many times do I have to watch the same **** thing, year after year?
Having said that, I actually quite like the „Wonder Woman“ movie. It looks really good, old-fashioned in a good way, and the two leading stars are charming.
Chris Pine is effective as the new Indiana Jones era Harrison Ford the world has been waiting for. But most of the attention and praise goes to Gal Gadot as Diana.
She’s just wonderful indeed: beautiful, in good ass-kicking shape and also good at displaying subtle sense of humor which goes long way when the Amazon princess has to meet the modern world (during the World War I).
My biggest concern is the quite lenghty final chapter of the story where the bad guy comes into play. In this part of the movie one can’t deny anymore that the main character’s philosophy is shallow and underdeveloped even by the standards of Facebook Deep we live in.
And the final battle is, of course, as generic as they come in modern superhero movies, consisting mostly flying through air and punching each other, destroying stuff in the process.
Remember how Charlize Theron got an Oscar for 2003’s „Monster“? This is actually the director Patty Jenkins’s first movie job after that, in the meantime she has done mostly TV and this one anthology. Welcome back, great job!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Great movie, thank you Patty Jenkins for bringing us a good DC movie. Gal Gadot did an excellent job portraying DC's lovable super heroine, Chris Pine also did an amazing job portraying Steve Trevor, as well as the many other actors portraying many of Wonder Woman's allies and enemies, such as Ares, Antiope, Hippolyta and more. (other than the fact that Ares had a pedo-stache and his skin didn't turn completely black when he transformed into his god-form-thing) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Highly overrated but still pretty good - I'd give it a 6.75. It was a little too long with some dead parts or parts that could've been shortened up.....I'd say a good 10 - 15 minutes could have been trimmed with no ill effects.

Surprised that it wasn't the "men are all idiots and incapable" thing or that it didn't really bash men at all....a pleasant discovery. Of course (as seems the thing in just about every movie today) the "race thing" had to be brought up for no good reason.....the Indian/Arab/Persian dude who wanted to be an actor but has to serve "because of his color"...sigh....and the out of place American Indian dude lamenting and blaming "his kind' (read: white men) for robbing his heritage and land....double sigh. Stuff like that was very unneeded, preachy and out of place in a superhero movie. We know.....we know....

Gal Gadot is drop dead gorgeous though and her smile lights up the screen....also, her acting was not as bad as others have said and she pulled it off.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's probably the best DC movie to date but falls flat on its face near the end. Gal Gadot works visually as Wonder Woman but, even though she gained 15 pounds of muscle, still doesn't have the body type of Wonder Woman. Think about the woman that were around her growing up, they were all very in shape. If she was being trained 5 times harder than them, and since there is no time said between her ageing transitions, you would have to expect that she would look somewhat like them; Jacked. I appreciate the 6 months Gal took to try and attain this image, I can only hope she continues to gain more and more muscle to become more in tune with her character. And for those of you that say "She was made by the gods" Gods typically make people in their image and Wonder Woman does have muscles. The only other aspect Gal lacks on when it comes to Wonder Woman is her fierceness, I don't really recall a time in the movie where Gal actually looked more than Mad, unless you count the CGI spaghetti lightning near the end of the movie. Continuity errors can take away from a film too, I am sure everyone realized that Ares still had a mustache during a flashback sequence. I am not sure if that is the actor refusing to shave or grow a beard, or the studio making a huge mistake. Either way, it added a bit of humour to an otherwise serious scene. There is also a complete lack of power measurement during the film, in one scene she struggles to hold back bullets with her shield and in another she is lifting a tank. Again I get that she is made by the gods in this film, but all humans are also made by the gods (if you caught that)

Enough about that, the film is definitely worth watching and is enjoyable! I just like leaving my 10 cents.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I don't consider myself a movie critic by any means, I absolutely do consider myself to have a PHD on the character of "Wonder Woman". Since her comic book debut in 1941 til now there has been so many depictions of this iconic hero leading to her fame as "most popular female comic-book superhero of all time" So I will applaud Hollywood for at least picking an existing origin and storylines instead of creating their own. The Special effects are amazing, the cast and acting are brilliant. I would have liked Wonder Woman to be depicted as the greatest warrior of the Amazons instead of a demigod. This would have opened the storyline up to the absolute mandatory "Tournament Contest" where Diana would have won a physical competition to have the right to be able to leave Themyscira/Paradise Island with Steve Trevor. Along with the rewarded of "the lasso of truth and tiara" Diana's character in the movie just simply walks Steve out to an awaiting boat wearing this gear. Wait..what? Was this just laying around in her closet are we to assume then? This portion of the movie made zero sense and hopefully left the average Joe still wondering why her custom is red, white and blue? The amazonium gauntlets she wore should have also been worn by all the Amazons, not just Diana. This was omitted I'm sure to give Diana the appearance of being superior to lead to the demigod role, but only made the Amazon race appear weaker to me. Although the beach fight scene was the best and set the tone for the rest of the movie as well. So without this "Contest Tournament " element the movie the plot began falling apart for me.
Aspects that I truly appreciated was the combination of comic and television element from the in-depth creation story of being molded from clay to the Aries battle scene, these were picture perfect from the comic book. The tasting of ice cream for the first time and Steve Trevor's bad phone connection scenes coming right out of the "Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter. All and all it was exacting what the average audience needed to be a summer time box office hit, I just wish a little bit more detail had been added for the comic book and Vintage TV fans. Some of which can still be corrected still in the most definite Wonder Woman 2. First call her Wonder Woman! She was referred to as Diana the entire movie not one time was the words "Wonder Woman" spoken on my count. An introduction or minimum reference to an invisible jet along with a most definite explanation of her anti-aging secret though the timeline.
Movie wow factor 10, plot & storyline a 6....so I rate an 8.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This was an incredible movie. It's a 10/10 for sure. I wanted a more muscular and stronger looking actress (like Gina Carano or Rhona Mitra) to play Wonder Woman, not a stick figure like Gadot, however she did an incredible job of acting that I forgot how weak and scrawny she looks in real life. The story line was decent and the action sequences were top notch. The emotional elements that make you tear up felt genuine, which makes or break a movie in my opinion. I am not a fan of Chris Pine but he did well here. I got a vibe of the Howling Commandos when they were all travelling together before the watch tower scene. The scene where Wonder Woman clears a trench of German soldiers was incredibly satisfying to watch. I know the word epic get thrown around willy nilly now-a-days, but this scene truly was epic. Unlike most people I loved Superman v. Batman, but this movie was leagues better in comparison. If you haven't seen this film yet, what is wrong with you? My favorite part was seeing Themyscira on the big screen. As a huge fan of Greek Mythology and shows like Xena; this movie was an incredible experience. Expand

She really had on-screen charisma, and was a humorous, yet headstrong and heroic character. Loved the soundtrack too, and the jokes cracked throughout the movie which really lightened the mood of the movie.

Also contained a very unexpected plot twist, totally did not expect that (I never read the cast list prior to watching so I had no idea who was playing Ares)

Also, enough of all this "dark" themed crap. Ever since the heroin junkie joker died 10 years ago, it seems every superhero movie explores the dark side of the superhero. Dark knight, dark superman, dark papa smurf..etc. Wonder Woman actually had an internal struggle that was compelling and interesting without being "dark." (said with sarcastic batman breath).
Lastly, there's something about Gal Gadot's interpretation. She was vulnerable, inquisitive, caring but strong. She pulled it off masterfully.

It’s fair to say Wonder Woman represents a make or break point for Warner Brothers and their extended universe of superhero films.

After last years’ Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad disappointed fans, critics and the box office, Wonder Woman was an opportunity for the studio to get back to basics and tell the origin story of a character that has never seen a cinematic adaptation.

For the most part, director Patty Jenkins and the creative team have succeeded, telling a straightforward story that, while at times a little generic, entertains throughout.

The casting of Gal Gadot has been controversial for a number of reasons. First off many (admittiadly myself included) dirided the fact that a catwalk model had been cast as the amazon warrior. Not only does this bring up issues in terms of the portrayal of WW’s body image, there is also the question of Gadot’s acting ability, can she hold her own movie? I’m pleased to say the answer is unequivocally — yes, Gal Gadot is great in this movie.

Growing up in isolation on the island of Themyscira, the film sees Diana introduced to the world through her relationship with Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and the context of the First World War. Gadot gets the opportunity to mix the wonder and naivety of a grown woman stepping out into the world for the first time with the strong moral indignation at a world going to hell, and she nails it. Whether sampling ice cream for the first time or telling off a general for his cavalier attitude towards human life, the actress gets a number of great opportunities to shine.

Alongside Gadot, Chris Pine is fantastic as always. Pine is one of those actors who you often forget is as good as he is. Here he gets to be funny, charming and carry a lot of emotional weight and he never misses a beat.

Visually, Jenkins delivers a few standout action sequences including a beach skirmish with the Amazon warriors and the German army as well as Diana’s defiant stride into no-mans land.

While comparisons to Marvel are somewhat unavoidable and the finale falls into some over familiar tropes, the film’s period setting and the mythology surrounding Diana give Wonder Woman a clear sense of its own unique identity within the ever growing superhero pantheon.

World War I provides a great setting to introduce Diana to the complexities and brutality of mankind with the ensemble of characters providing insights into war profiteering, moral ambiguity, race relations and of course gender inequality.

The film recaptures the early days of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, telling its own story without being overly concerned with crossovers or interconnectivity.

If DC can deliver a similar experience with the upcoming Aquaman and the ensemble of Justice League works well, they may yet create a great universe and Wonder Woman is certainly a step in the right direction.

For now we have a positive, fun and above all enjoyable origin story with some stand out performances and solid action. Wonder Woman is a superhero film with broad appeal and if early box offices predictions are accurate it could be DC’s first runaway success of the new era.

This movie isn't bad, its just nowhere near as good as people say it is. The movie is mostly fun, but has choppy CGI, a weak villain and amateur directing. The writing is pretty good, but has some big flaws on occasion.

I see how the feminist perspective is relevant but not so much WW1. Are Americans so frustrated with our slow-moving political system based on compromises that it feels like trench warfare? At any rate at least it's a smart and fun box-office movie not dominated by action sequences, which I thought were pretty cool. It may be more substance than style though. Gal Gadot is able to carry the film but there's a number of scenes where I can tell she's acting. I think it's when the expression in her eyes doesn't match what she's saying. Chris Pine delivers the one liners almost like he's not going for laughs, so he comes across as funny and genuine. He does a good job. The whole movie hinges on their chemistry and I thought it was just decent. Also I want more David Thewlis! Just let him improv his whole character. Expand

It's a decent film that you can enjoy. Personally, I don't feel it lived up to the hype and it still suffers from the drawbacks of most DC films, but by far this is the best installment in the universe they are trying desperately to build.

It was such a bad ending I had to drop my score. The ending being Ares appearing, right after Diana is told "Humanity isn't manipulated by Ares". They forced a big climatic battle, the ending and moral was so good, but they had to force a big battle. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a sort of casual fan of superhero films - I'm not really the target audience I suppose and I don't enjoy them all but this was neither the worse, nor the best one I'd seen. I liked some aspects of it and not so much others (I suppose like most films). At first I was really quite keen, as I liked how the young Diana was portrayed growing up, as someone keen to start (warrior) training, to become involved in battles and ultimately helping the outside world to conquer the Germans (its set in WWI).

Surprisingly (or not), there were some reasonably poignant pieces of dialogue present - that impressed me, although perhaps the most memorable examples are in the very last scene. The titular character is of course portrayed as a, at heart, decent woman, wanting to help those who struggle to help themselves, which is, of course, laudable and yet I still feel there's an inherint tackiness to the over sexualised appearance of Wonder Woman. I suppose that inevitable to a certain extent but I felt that one or two such inevitable aspects cheapened or certainly lessened the potential impact of the good things. I'm sure most fans of such superhero films will enjoy this and I can't say its a bad film, it has some good themes and is somewhat thought provoking, plus the action/fight scenes are well filmed and the special effects are, of course, decent, as would be expected. For me, personally, overall I can't quite go so far as to give this a solid 4 star (good) rating but I'd say its a reasonable, ok watch if this is your kind of thing, certainly. If your not sure about it then don't. Oh and also, if you cringe at over the top/stereotyped Scottish characters then, suffice to say, you won't like the one who appears in this film - get ready to cringe!.

This is an alright watch but it is quite long and if your not fully invested in the characters then you may feel a bit distracted, so I'm giving this a 3 star rating and hopefully you can decide for yourself if its worth you seeing it or not.

This movie is in essence, an origin story, with her childhood flashbacks and a beautiful and defining moment when Wonder Woman realizes who she wants to be.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was a perfect cast, she was an actual soldier in the IDF, the Israeli Defense Forces and I think it shows in her performance.

I love sword and shield combat and the fight scenes and choreography are AWESOME, with the music really setting a beautiful tone.

Wonder Woman rescued DC into the light and out of the grasp of the dreadfully overrated Dark Knight that was plunging the genre into darkness. Gal Gadot brings to life the charming, fierce, heroic, and ethically astute titular character to life with great charisma. This film offers all the colorful and emotionally rich action a comic book fan could hope for while bringing to the genre with the greatest amount of romantic depth that is sweet, funny, and offers a wonderful message to inspire the comic book genre for what a superhero film is meant to be. Through thematically rich material, Wonder Woman has risen above its genre by a landslide as not just the greatest comic book film of all time, but also the greatest action film of all time and is more than well deserving of my highest acclaim of a 10/10. It was a very well done movie, just not totally my cup of tea. I like action and/or superhero movies to have a good amount of comic relief to break up the seriousness and action, and this movie had only a very minor amount of that. Some people like that, but for me, it just makes it a little tedious to watch when there's not enough. I also prefer movies with relatable characters, and Diana, even though she's a woman, is a little hard to relate to. For most people, this probably wouldn't have bothered them, but there's just certain things I need in a movie to really take me from just liking it to loving it, and it wasn't quite there. Glad I saw it, I really loved watching such a bad ass female super hero, but I probably wouldn't watch it again. Expand

At the time this movie came out, DC hadn't release a good movie since The Dark Knight in 2008 and female-led superhero movies had been saddled with garbage scripts like Catwoman and Electra.

This movie is fine, good even. The first two-thirds are honestly delightful. Unfortunately, the final third squanders a lot of potential. Without going into spoilers, a really neat option to deconstruct and advance the superhero genre gets thrown away in order to put in the standard third act boss fight.

With that out of the way, this is a fun movie. Gal Godot was relatively unproven, particularly as a lead in this big of a movie, but she holds the role down. Chris Pine does as well as he's done in the Star Trek movies; a bit of a scoundrel, but with a heart of gold. Many of the supporting characters are underused, but none of them feel forced. The story does a good job of getting the audience invested.

The villains were some of my favorites. They are (again avoiding spoilers) very appropriate for the time period the film is set in (one of my biggest gripes with the first Captain America movie was that it wasted its WWII setting by giving everyone rayguns). Their superweapon is a very World War One superweapon. Aside from the supervillain shoved into the third act, they're both evil enough and real enough to be satisfying.

Overall, this is a competent film where everyone had been led to expect incompetence. This will not be a movie that you're still talking about two weeks later, but you'll have a fun time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Having been virtually the only good thing about the recent Batman Vs Superman movie Gal Gadot is once again great as Wonder Woman and there are some genuinely funny moments and lines to go alongside some entertaining action sequences. Can we just forget Zak Snyder’s Batman and Superman now and have more Wonder Woman? Expand

The movie contains large periods of time where nothing happens, has extremely forgettable characters and is simply not entertaining for the most part.

Wonder Woman is represented as shallow and naive, which is fine, but for an origin movie there is no growth and no surprises. Her accent is forced and the high pitched nasal voice she has when she whines is grating to listen to. She spends the entire movie following other guys- stomping her feet when she disagrees and occasionally doing her own thing with single minded- or single mindless- determination. As such, her 'strength of character' doesn't come from being actually independent and strong, but from being bull headed- and minus one fight scene in the middle of the movie, it doesn't do her any good. She faces a 'choice' at the end of the movie, but it's so black and white and obvious it doesn't draw you to the conclusion her understanding of humanity has broadened in the slightest, which seemingly was the entire point of her 'growth' throughout the movie.

The supporting cast for the most part is there to give a few lines of token dialogue about how they're on the margin- before the movie ironically shoves their value to the margin so we can focus again on one of the worst love stories in a comic book movie I've seen... which is saying something since all comic book movie love stories are beyond awful.

At least there are some fight scenes, though few and far between. But they don't look right. Dianna poses in battle way too much, which would fit if this movie was aiming to be old school comic book goofy- but clearly they wanted this movie to be taken seriously. The whip looks weird, she just charges through things like a bull half the time, and I don't think I've seen a movie misuse slow motion battle scenes this much ever- with slow mo frames occurring sporadically through pretty much every battle, completely nullifying any effect they could have had if used sparingly and instead making fight scenes atrociously paced.

There is some comedy injected, largely based on her love interest's attempts to stay manly compared to the amazon; but only some of it is actually funny, while much of it makes the viewer as awkward as the actors look- and it doesn't help that this keeps up for most of the film.

I'm not even going to touch on the weak plot and completely non-threatening villains.

I normally try to avoid reviews before watching a movie so my opinion isn't tainted and my hopes don't get too high, but unfortunately the endless praise this movie was getting was hard to ignore so I did have somewhat high hopes. At the same time, it's a DC non-Batman movie so my expectations were never that great.

And no, I'm not saying this because it's a female superhero- I enjoyed Quinn's Suicide Squad, and I found Batman v Superman to be awful- in fact I thought Wonder Woman was one of the better parts of BvS despite having such a small role.

Not a bad movie, but not a good one either. Overall it's average, with a point taken off for being needlessly long and boring. Still one of the better non-Batman DC movies but that's not saying much.

So DC finally got one right, isn't that what everyone's saying? I completely agree, Wonder Woman was much better than anything else DC has released in a very long time, and it was a pretty great film, but was it as amazing as everyone say it was or are we all a bit bias due to the hype surrounding the film? In the first blockbuster superhero film featuring Wonder Woman since the 1970's, we see Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) sitting in her office, remembering how it all started, and we are thrown back to the Island of the Amazons, where she is a little girl. We see her grow up and go through her training, with her aunt played admirably by the Princess Bride herself, Robin Wright, making an epic comeback. After which, a series of events lead her to meet a man and leave the island to join the war effort in England. Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman and she was truly something special, I mean to take nothing away from her or her performance with this next statement, but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't point this out. While everyone got caught up in the hype of the fact that DC made a good movie, that didn't center around Batman, and the fact that this film was centered on a female superhero, they failed to see just how unoriginal the story actually was. As I was watching the scenes on this Island, with Diana growing up, not knowing what she really was, and leaving before she was ready, I was very much reminded of Thor, but that was just the first hour of the film. I thought things would get better but they didn't. She becomes this unexpected larger than life hero in World War I, much in the way that Captain America did in World War II. Both of them fought really bad guys who weren't the "main" bad guy behind the war, and then there is the whole God angle, which brings us right back to Thor again. The film was so well done, I think it is more than time we had a strong female hero that young girl can emulate and look up to, and I thought Gal Gadot was a breath of fresh air, who gave an outstanding performance. As far as originality goes, to me it just wasn't there, as it seems the writers took elements from two of the more popular Marvel films and mashed them together. The Bottom Line, Wonder Woman is absolutely worth seeing, however I'm all for original ideas, and I want to see something different, especially at a time when a new superhero film is coming out every month.
