This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Extremely overrated movie. In short :
_ Writing : incoherent, unsurprising, clichƩ'd, tries to me misandrist and still manages to be an insult to feminism.
_ Acting : decent, except for Gal Gadot, who can't be seriously be called an actress, she's just a pretty face.
_ Visuals : pretty nice but some Wonder-Woman moves seem completely failed, i was under the impression they sometimes just pressed fast forward to give us the impression something was quick, it looks bad on screen.

ClichƩs everywhere : you have the drunk Scottish fighting in a bar, the Indian doing smoke signals, the Arab who can sell anything, the "Doctor Poison" with the mask, etc ...

Main character, Wonder-Woman, is actually stupid and suffers from a huge lack of depth. She even contradicts herself, talking about "love being the solution" while killing soldiers with a smile since the beginning of the movie (soldiers who were chasing a spy, by the way, not killing innocents). But after all, Gadot was an Israeli soldier proud of the killings her country does, so I guess this part of the plot didn't trouble her.

I can't see why some people see this movie as feminist, it just shows how a woman can do exactly what's expected of her without even thinking about it. The only decisions she makes on her own are dumb are useless in the end.

Talking about feminism. Is it feminism to repeat over and over how superior women are to men ? Spoiler : it isn't.

Gal Gadot is a huge problem for this film, too. it's obvious she's a model, not an actress. All she can do the whole film is trying to be sexy with those eyes or mouth moves. That's not what expected about an actress, or at least not in this kind of movie. She needs to learn the job first, at least know how to reflect basic super-hero feelings like sadness or wrath.

Whole writing is faulty, she failed her mission of saving the world from war but is still happy about it, she makes fun for corsets while wearing one, she wants war to stop but loves it, etc.

In conclusion, this film takes no risk at all, bringing nothing new to the table AND even fails many basic things. And the most sad thing maybe for a movie : it's boring. The good reviews of so many people just because it's a woman on the main role make me sick. This is not a good super-hero film, not a good DC film, not a good film. Sorry for my not-trained in a while english.

The movie tells story in a 2 parts. The history of the character and the movie plot itself. The first part tells the story well and progresses in a natural tempo. However the second part does not quite match up where the firs part left off. Story line feels a bit forced. All in all it was an enjoyable movie. Actors - 7/10
Great cast with good charaters. No one seems out of place.

Gal Gadot - Wonderwoman 7/10
Have to talk about the main charater for herself. Gal is so stunning she captivates you in every scene. The fights are well performed and she does a great job. Her presence is felt.
As we all know Gal is not an American and english is not her first language. All though her english is fine and you can easily understand her, the pronunciation can at times make the dialog feel scripted and not a natural progression of a conversation. This is something I think she will get better at overtime but as far as grading her performance i believe it is the only thing draging down the grade somewhat because she performed everything else beautifully. Cinematic - 8/10

Beautiful shot with high depth. Great colorization to bring in the right mood and the action scenes is filmed at a pace where the action is seen and now flown by in an instance.

Overall: 6 / 10

Stunning actress, good cast, beautiful cinematics but somewhat inadequate story line drags the grade down. The movie is enjoyable and worth watching.

It would have been better if the movie ended with Wonder Woman killing that evil German dude, and Chris Pine's character's speech to her after that. Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the comic, but what really happens after Ares is killed? There's still the Pacific theater fighting. Is there another Ares that Wonder woman needs to kill? Wonder Woman could be the very best superhero movie ever made, but that cheesy and special effect-driven finale was terrible and I'm betting it wasn't Patty Jenkins who wanted that.

'Wonder Woman' strikes an impressive balance between action and comedy, and it does so in a way that is distinctly geared towards female sensibilities--a true rarity in the genre.

Sure, there are times when the movie feels a bit campy. And the final sequence is less compelling than the rest of the film deserved. However, women are packing movie theaters in droves, which not only bodes well for this film, but forecasts a big return (and box office tallies) for the DC Universe in the years to come.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For large parts of this film, Wonder Woman is truly a 'beautiful' film made of love and care like its titular character. But sadly like most of its DCEU counterparts, Wonder Woman quickly degenerates into a rudderless shlock filled with CGI that looks like it came straight out of menstruation, film logic as irrational as a girl on her period and an abortion of a plot. Indeed, for much of the hype surrounding this film, sadly, Wonder Woman is not as 'wonderful' as one might think to have watched. Pros of the film:
-Acting is superb on most part of the film (apart from the over the top villains and bizzare accents (or lack of an accent on Chris Pine's part) for most of the cast tries to attempt). This is the first DCEU film I recall for a genuine connection to see. Gal Gadot is superb in this role and the scenes with her and Chris Pine are the standouts of the film.
-That said, the best parts of the film isn't the action nor villains, it is indeed the love that develops between Diana and Trevor which is both incredibly funny and heartwarming. I haven't seen this good chemistry since the last Superman Return film.
-There is real comedy here, unlike the **** SNL skit that was GOTG vol. 2. Characters actually speak logically and make sense in the jokes they make that because Wonder Woman is a naive character and thrust upon our immoral world.
- Some great camera work by the director. - Soundtrack was great. Although it is generic on most part, it actually complimented the scenes really well. - Pacing of the film actually is quite good. There's not really a lot of fat.
-Feminism done right. I know many people will get triggered about the word, but most people really never have studied feminism don't understand what it means. By what I mean feminism is that it isn't some **** of a girl harping how powerful she is or how equal they want, feminism is in fact a critical theory on the social norms we have. Why Wonder Woman is a great feminist film because this film actually asks good question. For example *SPOILERS*, in one scene, she questions why the generals all sit there and not fighting with the soldiers. In another scene, and rather poignant, she and Steve trevour are dancing in the snow and Steve recalls how marriage and life is pretty meaningless and how he doesn't even know if he will get married. For a while, these are the moments what makes Wonder Woman great and stand out as being just another popcorn flick. Now sadly, here are the bad points about this film, and there are many unfortunately. - Once they arrive to the front line, the film literally falls apart. The problem is that we never get a sense why they are there, apart from some dialogue about them either stopping the general-whats-his-name (played by Danny Huston) and Dr poison (but more like doctor dialogue) from signing a peace treaty or I don't know really. There's like a scene where she walks in front of the trench and then saves a village but we never really get a sense why and what etc. It's more like they just jam in these scenes because they literally ran out of ideas.
- Villains are rubbish. Sorry to Danny Huston, but he just bumbles his way in his performance and his presence is unconvincing and cumbersomely put together. Dr Poison is severly wasted as a character because apart from throwing a poison grenade in the scene we have all seen already, she does nothing apart from dialogue. When the 'real' villain comes up, he just appears suddenly so that we can have our 'climatic fight'
**** action. Again, if you like your action to be all in slow motion and where literally its just your heroes shooting faceless soliders - then yeah... Also the final fight is boring, explosions here and there, oh a villain with so many powers... yea just a mess. -Lazy film logic. My mate and I laughed out in one very lazy edited scene *Spoiler*. Basically Wonder woman stabs the general on top of the roof before encountering the other main villain. At this point she doenst have her sword (because she reaches for it). However, instead of showing her grab it, we basically cut to another scene briefly before the following scene shows her having it. It is laughlinly bad because the audience is led to believe the villain just stood there for her to go back up to get it before coming back down in the space of a shot. *Spoilers* Trevor also commits sucide at the end despite various ways he could've not blown the plane he was in carrying bomb ie landed the plane, dump the gas in ocean, jump off with parachute (assuming every fuking plane has parachute) or you know just blow up the plane. -The side characters are comedic relief at best. I love the french dude, but everyone else seems pointless and waste of screen time. You have a sniper character that never fires a single shot, and an american indian for no reason at all.
- CGI is **** There literally a scene early on where you see Robin Whyte character CGI on done by a 12 year old.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wonder Woman is dumbest movie that I have seen. Wonder Woman is so void of any coherent thought and logic, that it makes the notorious Battlefield Earth look like a science documentary by comparison. Staying true to the nature of Hollywood, Wonder Woman tries to hide it's weak script and wooden character development with special effects. Wonder Woman's saving grace, and why the film is not universally despised by it's critics, is only because of it's affirmation to Hollywood's fantasy of social egalitarianism, that is being forced into every dimension of our lives. What Wonder Woman is, is the egotistical Hollywood heads taking a **** on World War I history, and rewriting it into a fantasy that never was. In reality, General Erich Ludendorff was among the earliest to point out the betrayal of the Imperial German Army by Marxists and Bolsheviks, thus resulting in Germany's defeat. Perhaps this is the reason for the absolutely childish demonization of General Ludendorff in Wonder Woman? Walking out of the movie theater, I have come to understand that Wonder Woman is not only a movie, but a symbol. It is a symbol of how deeply the Hollywood establishment despises white christian civilization, and how they are so proud of it, that they no longer even try to conceal it. It is a symbol of their chutzpah. Expand

It is, straight out, the best film of the 20 super-shared-continuity tentpoles of the past decade. The innovation: tell an interesting human story, with well observed moments about rounded characters. The care extends to the action sequences which are interesting to watch and carry emotional weight, not simply relying on manic editing.

Great casting across the board. Real actors, committed to a role (not merely slumming for a paycheck), and met halfway by a screenwriter, can work wonders for a genre film. (See: the collected work of Patrick Stewart) Robin Penn Wright is a standout as an early mentor, but all the supporting parts are well drawn. Gadot and Pin work exceptionally well together. We've never seen super/sidekick relationship done this well before in the movies.

Why is the movie good rather than great? It's downfall is the inevitable lifeless "climax shapped" third act CGI slugfest that inflicts the modern comic movie. If you ask someone about the best moment from the end of a recents supers movie, most people will struggle to recall anything other than the post-credits shawarma scene from the Avengers. It is likely that this is a failure attributable to the (not altogether unreasonable) cowardness of contemporary film executives in the face of budgets of 100s of millions of dollars. It is certainly not attributable to the action movie form itself. Each of the Star Wars films, for example, ended on a remarkable action sequence with real emotion stakes, each of which capped the emotional journey of the protagonist.

But if Wonder Woman, with all its strengths, can't quite overcome the boat anchor tacked to the end of a modern franchise flick, it does inject a few twists to redeem it. The director makes a rough, but serviceable landing in the face of the overwhelming headwinds of the form, showing a possible way forward beyond merely ending on a joke filled set piece ala Guardians and Avengers. Hopefully the film will be a great success, and the director will be given the latitude to make a great sequel.

MASTERPIECE!! This is one of the VERY BEST superhero movies EVER. Another hit in a year full of GREAT movies. I RECCOMEND THIS MOVIE TO EVERYONE!! It's that good. And yes, children can acutaly see it, as opposed to the last 2 DC movies.

At first I had my doubts, because of the mild dissapointment of Batman v Superman (I didn't completely hate it, but didn't care much about it) and the ultra big dissapointment of Suicide Squad, but after seeing the good reviews I decided to go watch it. AND NOW I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN. The movie leaves you with a very good feeling, it's fresh, fun, has a good message (I think the whole world needs to receive this message right now), and Gal Gadot... congratulations o the PERFECT performance you gave. And Patty Jenkins, congratulations for your great directing.

Oh, and the action sequences are amazing too :D funny how the action was really great and it wasn't even the best part.

All in all, a big win for everyone involved: the makers, DC, and we as the audience... even Marvel, who now has some REAL competition, so they must raise their already high standards even higher (can't wait to see that! :D). This movie really left me feeling very happy and those are the kind of movies that I love :).

Just have to add my two cents -- Wonder Woman is a beautiful film, and so much more than just a 'superhero' movie.

The cinematography was fantastic, the script/storyline a classic tale set in an interesting time period, and the actors brought to life these characters in a believable and moving way (a film made by less capable directorial hands and cast would not have been so concretely realized).

I won't pick at the storyline or offer spoilers -- I really think everyone and anyone who wants to see what will undoubtedly become a cinema classic in the adventure/action genre should see this! This was an impressive film, and emotionally touching in addition to thrilling to watch!

If you are a fan of the comics - definitely see the movie!

If you are not a comics fan - I still say you should see the movie.

And for those bringing their children - I know that I would have loved to see this movie as a child (I'd say 10 years old might be a good age). This might be too forceful for younger children - unless you (the parent) are there to comfort them.

Let me add that Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman = AMAZING! She brings heart and beauty to the role. Gal is beautiful and I am very satisfied with her believability and portrayal of Diana, Princess of Amazons...and dare I say, Demi-Goddess of Peace, the Warrior-Heart-Spirit, and Integrity (Sometimes you have to kick ass to bring about Peace!).

To any of the negative nancies out there complaining about Gal Gadot's body or height -- I'd like to see how YOU look in Wonder Woman's costume! Yeah, that's what I thought.

The characters are grossly stereotypical... and utterly amoral. (let's not speak of the varying grossly "spoken" accents). Laws of physics & chemistry are maleable depending on what the script requires.

Except for the photography, costumes and music which are providing an excellent support to the movie, the rest is a joke particularly the CGI. Acting is a lolfest.

It's merely a popcorn movie to watch with early teens to keep them busy for almost two and a half hours (very ouch) if it can... I was bored but I laughed out loud when the chief used smoke signals.

A sophomoric movie that did really well at the box office. I don't understand it unless it was made for teenagers. I had to fast forward through parts of it because it became just too boring and predictable. Keep your fast forward button ready.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Wonderwoman is well, well ahead of the other DCEU films, rivalling some of MCUs best. It didn't focus on the fact that the lead role is a she at all, which was a major relief. SFX were very good, and Jenkins balanced the action and non-action quantities expertly. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine's chemistry was amazing, creating some funny and some beautiful moments between Diana and Steve. This film had one of the best endings I've seen in a long time, the death of Steve (at least for me and the group I saw it with) totally unexpected and very, very sad, due to the brilliant acting by Gadot and Pine before, in some of the more intimate moments in the film. You really feel for Gal at the end, wrapped up in her metal prison watching Steve blow him and the plane to smithereens. The sole con worth mentioning is the villains were once again too straightforward, lacking in depth and overall 'wow factor'.

Overall, a film well worth the ticket money, and significantly better than the other DCEU films currently available for viewing pleasure. Go see it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After reading reviews and forcing myself to watch this "movie", as well as having been a LONG time WW fan..........I can honestly say that WB/DC has blatantly paid off critics, padded box office receipts, and planted "fans" of the movie around the globe in order to prevent the box office FLOP this truly is. I wouldn't even put it past them to have a squadron of paid people online writing fake five star reviews for this disaster. It's been done before with many movies that companies could not lose money on.

WB/DC could not afford yet another dull loser movie at the box office. And seeing as NOBODY on this film did ANY research into the story or character of the REAL Wonder Woman (as they even stated in interviews), it shows. And WB/DC knowing that they had created another HUGE dullard of a movie, had to run to their checkbooks to start paying off critics right and left. Otherwise, how could critics give it such high reviews before the damn thing was ever even put on film? BIG RED FLAG on that right there.

If the REAL box office numbers were published, I can guarantee they would be less than half of what WB/DC claim they are. The ONLY thing that was "Wonder Woman" about this movie was the title.

This piece of garbage is the exact OPPOSITE of what the REAL, TRUE Wonder Woman is. She is definitely not a mass murdering killing machine!

And what makes this even more horrible, is that Lynda Carter allowed herself to be brought in on this ludicrous fiasco. A sad day indeed.

So much for this now EX-Wonder Woman fan.

Finally, an excellent film for the DC universe that holds her own against others in the genre. This is a thoroughly enjoyable experience, with dynamic cinematography, solid pacing, delightful script, and engaging storyline, I was utterly charmed by this film which I had serious doubts about. Gadot is superb, and while she isn't quite the Amazonian I'd always pictured, her performance is exceptional, with the rest of the cast providing polished support. The action sequences are magnificent, though I wanted to be able to see more, and some moments are too frenetic to follow, which is occasionally frustrating. I particularly enjoyed the delicate balance between objectification and celebration that could have marred this film, and I was thoroughly impressed by the deft handling of what could have been an exercise in the male gaze, and instead revels in introducing the genesis story of a fiercely intelligent, powerful, awesome superhero. 9.01/10 Expand

With Wonder Woman in this case it truly is what the critics say, and praise it for being the "Best DC movie" out of the 4 in the line up. Taking away from the darker aspect and genre we finally have a movie where it is allowed to have wit and humor without the indication it's trying to carbon copy what Marvel is doing, or needlessly be a depressing 3 hour blockbuster like either BVS or Man of Steel. Story telling wise Patty Jenkins directing and script really bought the character to life on the big screen with all the incredible action sequences, interactions with the likes of Steve Trevor, Etta Candy and the main big bad (SPOILERS>>>>>>>) Ares. With that being said the movie does have it's weak points namely speaking the CGI was off in some places that irked me a little during Act 1 and Act 3 being the norm for all superhero movies being the "big boss smash arena". With that being said that takes nothing away from what a spectacular movie Wonder Woman is and truly has revitalised and restored hope and interest that the DCEU will keep up the quality, pace and new bar Wonder Woman has set. Wonder Woman is a great film that reminds me a lot of Batman Begins: essentially, a wonderful beginning to the character, buoyed by a strong performance by Gal Gadot and her other supporting actors /actresses. Seeing her on screen is reminiscent of seeing the late Christoper Reeve as Superman back in 1979. She exudes both warmth and fierceness at the same time; an actress truly born to play this role. Having a female director also helps, creating a 'feminine' tone so different from any other comic book films out there. Is it the best? Obviously not, as Wonder Woman, like any comic book origin story, has to go through the same 'trials and tribulations' which we have seen so many times in the last decade or so. But it's a great start to the franchise and a life saver for the DC Extended Universe. Expand

Wonder Woman Spoiler Free Review:
When Man of steel arrived I was one of the few who liked it. It wasn't the Superman I had expected but I saw it as a film that was showing us how he had become the Superman we all knew and loved. I saw it as a series of lessons from his personal loss to his loss of innocence that would mold him into the man who would fight for Truth and Justice. Sadly I was wrong, and we ended up getting Batman Vs Superman with an even darker Batman than ever. I thought, surely they couldn't get any worse and then there was Suicide Squad. With two solid misses and one half sucess, I was not at all interested in another dive into the fetid pool that is the DC Cinematic Universe. I had come to the view that DC/WB made great trailers and honestly should stick to the short form work. So, when the first Wonder Woman trailer dropped I was like, 'well that's a pretty trailer' and went about my merry way.
Tonight I had an opportunity to see the film at no cost to myself so I figured, ' It would at least be worth the price of admission, right?' Heck, they even paid for drinks and popcorn, what was there to lose?
Lets start From a film making perspective. The first two acts are nearly flawless. Everything from the character development to the pacing is strong and well planned. The third act, while good, has a bit of the Snyder pacing and over use of CG issues that could have been fixed easily with a bit of editing but if you've seen the other films you'll be happy to know this one is considerably toned down. (And, hint hint, this one has a much better climax. No one named Martha involved. ;) )
The story is the origin story (with a twist of course) of who and what Wonder Woman is. Is she a woman? Yes. Is she a warrior? Yes. But who is she, what is her purpose in life? And in that, what is ours?
Wonder Woman is at its core is a story of finding ones place in a world not your own. It's not the 'fish out of water' story but more of a story about determining who you want to be in life. Do you follow the crowd and just watch out for yourself or do you stand up for something?
After seeing this film, I would have not been disappointed had I paid to see it. In fact, I kinda wish I had.
4 out of 5 stars. Good film. Will probably buy.

You know how the Batman and Superman films completely missed the points of the characters and what they're supposed to stand for? You know how all the acting and dialog was clunky? How the plot made no sense?

Yeah, reverse all that. It's AMAZING. They totally 100% get her character. This is, hands down, the best portrayal of her character I've ever seen. Cartoons and comics included. She goes with the flow, but isn't afraid to just do what she wants if she thinks you're being unreasonable. She is an amazing fighter, but also incredibly strong, and most importantly driven by her innate compassion.

The characters are all fleshed out realistically. It takes time to flesh out even some of the side characters when you least expect it. The characters all react pretty realistically to their scenarios they find themselves in. There is not a single scene that does not belong there, and you always understand exactly what is happening and why (unless the film intentionally doesn't want you too).

IT'S A GREAT MOVIE. I can't believe I'm saying this, but yes. Hell yes. It's right up there with some of the best solo marvel films like Ant Man and Iron Man, and better than a lot of marvel films, but not all of them.

It is exactly what we all wanted, when we need it, how we needed it.

It felt like a very realistic super hero movie of maintaining some of the realism of a world war 2 battle scene with a super human fighting. By far the biggest problem is Gal Gadot - she can't act, she can barely speak English. That a male director cast a beauty pageant winner and underwear model as Wonder Woman says it all. This is one of the least feminist movies released last year.

If you want to see a kick-ass female lead character check out Mad Max: Fury Road. A far superior film with an actual actress, and a great one at that, in the lead role.

With this, you get a bit more of the flavor of the comics, but there's a strong nod to the 70s series as well. I'd say this is the best of the new DC films, with a compelling Diana who is every bit the princess of Paradise Island and the demigoddess who fights for justice and love. Excellent supporting cast as well, with no wasted moments, and a terrific villain who is portrayed extremely well. Chemistry between Godot and Pine is strong, and it was a nice touch to go back to WWI instead of WWII. I haven't enjoyed a movie this much in years, and can't wait for a follow-up. Expand

***Attempting to remain spoiler free***
-First off I am a lover of Wonder Woman comics, I thought the more recent new 52 run was brilliant... And then there was the movie.

-The movie itself wasn't bad. But when compared with the rampant hype it was pathetic. Honestly it was a very middle of the road Hero flick that would feel comfortable with the likes of Dr. Strange or Spiderman in terms of quality. Which is not a bad thing. That being said the movie had glaring issues that really kept it from shining more.
-1st off the pacing was bad. It seemed like there was a significant amount of filler material. I also disliked Diana's Ultra-naivety. I understand there were some attempts at comedy in it, but it was truly over the top. And hardly deserving of "feminist" praise that has been languished upon this film.

Second was Diana's character in general. Being an avid comic reader and knowing a fair amount about WonderWoman. I was disappointed at how her character was portrayed. She is a battle-lusting warrior in the comics that often needs to reign herself in to conform more to an unfamiliar society. However in the film she is a hippy-dippy love Aphrodite, while this isn't necessarily a bad character. It was irritating to see Diana portrayed as this.

Third, and honestly the biggest film killer for me (and my wife) was the villains. Forgettable would be an understatement. Truly a film such as this lets you see how important a good bad guy can help overall... And as many others have said, this film could have went without the end 1/3rd... You know the part where it all comes together... Yea.

If you really would like to see a great WonderWoman movie I would see the animated 2009 film. While it does not have the big names, it has fleshed out characters.

While it does roll with a few to many fish out of water gags, a dragging scene in London, and some mediocre CGI, Wonder Woman finally breathes some new life into the struggling DCEU and shows, in fact, female blockbuster leads can succeed in great fashion. WonderWoman by Ivette Fred-Rivera

I liked the movie, somehow.

The best: Diana. The worst: she is the only interesting character throughout the movie. A movie cannot be run by a single character. The partner Steve, boring. The other characters, fools. It is even insulting to women, in general, that a woman can be a hero only because she is running alone, instead of being the best among the best.

Curiously enough, the best lines of Diana are quotes from Achilles in the Iliad of Homer, specially from Book I. She is as brave as he is. At the front defending her army on the battlefield. That's why I think director Patty Jenkins should have chosen Brad Pitt as the actor who did Steve's character. Brat knew in Troy how to capture Aquilles’s braveness and would have made a more balanced performance as a real counterpart. Besides that Gal Gadot and Brat Pitt would be killing!

The film appears in two parts in terms of the use of technology. In the first part (first hour), it’s fairly basic and rudimentary, it reminds me of the Clash of the Titans (1981) with Greek gods flying in such an improbable, comic way. That's partly why the first hour is boring. It is too long too. I was about to leave. It is as if, for mythology, there was no real technology. This is strange. I also do not like that the director Jenkins does not cut a breast of the Amazons. Taking off a breast so that the armor, the bow, fit them well, showed their commitment to war, not with motherhood or with the yoke of marriage. That’s why Amazons were feared as well as desired by Ancient men. I guess the idea was that it was sexier a Diana with her two breasts. Though Diana's relationship with her aunt and teacher is great; it is the best of the first hour. The second part (second hour) uses the technology excellently, showing very well Diana’s battles, her prowess. In terms of politics, the film is quite flat. The demonized Germans vs the others, angels, of the Great War. The tv series was more layered in this sense.

Diana redeems the movie. I admire her bravery. Her innocence: to really believe in justice for its own sake, and for her ethos of saving mankind despite its undeservedness. This Diana is a combination of the Greek Arete (valor) with the Franciscan and Christian compassion.

She comes across a pilot named Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) as she has never seen a man before, and the two decide how to stick together. We spend most of the movie in London, during the war, as Steve tries to teach Diana how to fit in to the world, especially during the war, as Diana needs to understand human values in order to fit in. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine are fantastic leads for this movie and they share terrific chemistry. What makes 'Wonder Woman' work better than the three previous DCEU films is that it doesn't rely on fan-service moments, nor does it rely on referencing other DCEU films both previous and upcoming which means it's able to stand on its own, and the movie flows so well, it's just a well-made movie. Not just for comic book enthusiasts, which is why 'Logan' (2017) worked so well. 'Wonder Woman' is one of the best comic book movies out there, it's well-made, well-acted and thoroughly entertaining. Not to mention that this movie showcases the horrors of war, which is something that 'Captain America: The First Avenger' (2011) didn't do, though it did reference the horrors in later MCU films. All in all, 'Wonder Woman' is a worthy addition to the DCEU canon, and serves as a worthy competitor to the MCU franchise (which is still yet to make a generally bad movie according to critics). If you haven't seen 'Wonder Woman', and want a win for DC, this really is the movie for you. Go see it. Expand

DC actually made a film with heart here, with well developed and likeable characters, and flawless special effects. The performances are pretty good as well, especially Gal Gadot who puts in an outstanding performance. However the final act is extremely disappointing and I felt frustrated when I left the theatre knowing that this brilliant movie had such a dissapointing end, similar to Interstellar. However, maybe that's just me, maybe others did enjoy the ending but keep in mind that you might be dissapointed by the end. Expand

I guess all superhero movies end almost the same way these days. But if this one did not, it would get a 10 instead of a 9. There is a little more than partial male nudity in one of the scenes, if you are sensitive about that sort of thing. The end was kind of predictable, and the it seemed intentional. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spectacular movie. The 1st Superhero movie I agreed to go with my family to that's for sure. I enjoyed Gal, Chris, Patty and the writers take on the character. It was very human experience given to us from the eyes of a goddess, who is realising what she and the world are capable of both good and evil. I favour her because she represents true feminist, not man-haters or male oppression rather a Person that sees no need for mental barriers in do and making the right decisions for EVERYONE be it male or female. The wait was worth it. Gal Gadot nails the role, and you end up feeling good about a DC hero for the first time since the original "Superman" in 1978. (The Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy of the 2000s was also great, but "good" is not what you felt when you thought about that Batman.) This is a very good thing, if you're DC: Aside from Superman and Batman (and really, just Batman over the past 20 years), the company hasn't been able to generate much live action buzz with any of its heroes in theaters. If they wanted to keep up with Marvel, which has managed to march a solid stream of its iconic characters onto the big screen, DC needs another hero franchise.

I was a bit generous in giving this movie a 9; usually I reserve that score for all-time classics, a level this movie does not quite reach. There are some nit-picky items here that I just couldn't forgive (particularly those that are non-canon to the comic book). Without giving too much away, I'm not thrilled about:

* The "enhanced" relationship between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor.
* The abrupt change in skill level of one movie character, to the point where you wonder how the person isn't always a Master of the Universe and would therefore be unbeatable under just about any circumstance. * The timeline move to WWI in place of WWII (although, given other canon violations, this can almost be forgiven).
* The constant slow-motion scenes in some of the action sequences (but not in all -- make up your minds, already).
* An abrupt change in the fate of one character.
* A somewhat cliche change in Diana's origin (i.e. "Xena, Warrior Princess.")
* An also cliche group of supporting characters who go traipsing with Diana through the Western Front. * No use of the original TV series theme or the "electric twirl" as she changed into costume (just kidding here -- we knew it wasn't going to happen, but wouldn't it have been great if it had?).

On the plus side:

* Fantastic battle scene involving the Amazons and the German soldiers. Makes the battle scenes in "300" look like schoolyard scuffles among 5 year olds.
* Wonderfully choreographed fight scenes between Diana and pretty much anyone else.
* No nudity, swearing or even R-rated violence. There's barely any blood in this movie, and you don't miss it a bit.
* Robin Wright as General Antiope, Wonder Woman's aunt, who teaches her those amazing combat skills.
* Great chemistry between Chris Pine (Trevor) and Diana. Best scene by far is his "above average" moment. If you ever wondered what Captain Kirk was like as a high school student, perfecting his lady's man skills, here are your CliffsNotes.
* A less-dark film than other recent DC efforts (particularly the two Superman films), offering a few light-hearted moments that offset the official, grim storyline. (Think "Superman" and Lois Lane's "pink" underwear.)
* At least the level of canon infraction isn't at that demonstrated by shows like "Smallville," which pretty much threw out the source material and did what it wanted (remember the eventually murdered Jimmy Olsen and his little brother...Jimmy Olsen?). A lot has been said about the CGI-heavy moments toward the end of the film. Frankly, if I hadn't already read about them (and therefore, knew to look for them), I wouldn't have noticed. If anything, they're what's become standard in sci-fi/action films these days...not over the top, just what you expect to see. Unless you really want to go back to the days of Styrofoam boulders and rubber swords, and punches that were about an inch away from the face but still knocked the bad guy out cold.

Bottom line: A- for acting, B+ for story, A- for execution, and B+ for special effects. Nice job, DC. Now you get to do it again (times 7) with "Justice League" next November.

It's one of those rare comic book movies that transcends the genre to bring us something fresh and new, while still embracing the traditions of old-school Hollywood. Patty Jenkins' direction is pitch-perfect, miraculously balancing huge action blowouts with tender and poignant character moments. Gal Gadot is an absolute delight and surprise in the lead role, perfectly embodying the character while never once giving even a glimpse of hatred or vengeance, no matter how dismal the impressively and respectfully realized World War 1 setting gets. Gadot and Jenkins never once sexually objectifies the character, even while embracing her earthy sensuality and championing her sex-positivity. It's a testament to Gadot's on-screen presence and Jenkins' magnanimous direction that Chris Pine, in one of his best performances and a master class of sly charm, neither steals focus nor devolves into a generic side-kick. The supporting cast is uniformly wonderful, with every character feeling fully realized and memorable. The inquisitive tenderness Gadot shares with her ragtag band of brothers in the more personal moments is a true highlight to the film, adding up to an exploration of the duality of humanity: the ugliness and the hope, the anger and the grace, the doubt and the determination. I saw this movie with my 68-year-old mother and we both left the theater feeling inspired and captivated, hugging each other through the tears. Unlike other recent comic book movies, Wonder Woman doesn't feel like it's made just for hardcore fans, teenage boys or people with very unique sensibilities. Though this is without a doubt a movie with a powerfully specific vision, the appeal is truly universal. There's very little in the way of the overbearing fan service, Easter Eggs and sequel-baiting that has become de rigueur with modern-day big-budget studio fare. You've got to respect Patty Jenkins, Allan Heinberg, Geoff Johns and all involved with the crafting of the story for their faith in the source material and their respect for the audience. The production values are uniformly fantastic without being too showy. Lindy Hemming's period/fantasy costumes are marvels to behold, rich with detail and texture. The score is appropriately anthemic and well-utilized. The cinematography embraces both vivid colors and murky shadows. The special effects never overwhelm the actors or the action, even in the slightly chaotic, but efficiently staged, final showdown. I can't recommend this movie enough. Superhero fans will be thrilled to see Wonder Woman join the pantheon of truly great comic book movies, while those who don't like the genre or previous DC films will feel embraced. I can't wait to see it again. It's that rare sort of movie that will entertain you and help you escape the problems of the world while you're watching it, while also helping you find the courage and strength to face our challenges with love and truth after the credits have rolled. The world needs more love and truth these days. The world needs Wonder Woman. Expand
