Incredible, breathtaking, flawless. This movie is a game changer. Not just for the DCEU, but for the super-hero movie genre as a whole. It's definitely a must see!

I will say that the supporting cast on the island at he beginning, including Robin Wright, were excellent. So good, solid movie, but absolutely not among the best movies of the year. The result: What I expected, I have to say beforehand that I wasn't expecting much really. The good side of the coin in this one are the outfits and probably the setting. It's great to see that they finally decided to make a female super-hero movie, but unfortunately it fell short not as a super-hero movie but just a movie. On the other hand, on the bad side there are several flops like the lack of charisma in the characters and also the goofiness and sometimes overacting of Gadot. In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend to spend your time and money on this one, you would probably be bored by the first half, or either overwhelmed by its abusive use of slow-mo effects! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A few comments:

- Most reviewers overlook the most obvious thing about the fight on the beach: there was nothing villainous about the Germans (who were just chasing a spy), so when the amazons ruthlessly attack them without provocation and slaughter them to the last man, it arguably sets a much darker tone than anything we've seen yet in the DCEU. Contra their self-rhetoric, the amazons seem to revel in warfare and killing and make sport of it (after all, their whole raison d'etre is to hunt down Ares and kill him); note that unlike Batman and Superman (who fight with grim determination when the situation demands it) Diana actually smirks cheerfully as she slices terrified German infantrymen to mincemeat, even though they're just anonymous people fighting for their country. This was a very shrewd, very dark take on "empowerment" as an excuse for celebrating morally gruesome behavior.

- Despite Gadot's indifferent performance (she apparently went to the same acting school as Daisy Ridley: "Open your eyes wider! Scrunch your brow up! Good, now pout! pout!"), the character of Diana likewise undermines well-worn superhero tropes. She is notable for her feminine passivity and receptivity; powerful she may be, but nothing she does is self-willed. She merely fulfills missions and directives handed down from Hippolyta and Steve, without knowing or caring about the larger picture (what middlebrow critics are calling "innocence" and "moxie" is really blithe naivete and ignorance). The one thing she does do impulsively is to leap up and gratuitously slaughter some Germans when the opportunity arises, but like I said, the amazons clearly love killing. Her lack of serious inner struggles or flaws to overcome throws her in sharp relief against the other superheroes on offer these days.

- Other tropes are undermined. There is almost no cliche more overworked these days than the Hollywood-diverse squad of sidekicks, but the striking thing here is that they're portrayed with wicked wit as mostly-useless caricatures: the grumbling Indian helps by providing SMOKE SIGNALS, the Muslim poses as a bumbling servant, and the Scotsman just babbles and gets in the way. The fact that the writers slip this by without being called out on these problematic blackface performances shows the true subtlety of imagination that went into the script.

- Similarly, Diana's mission ultimately fails. Yes, she kills Ares, but so what? It doesn't end the war, it doesn't prevent the next (far worse) war, it really doesn't do anything. This leads to the savagely cynical ending where Diana asserts that "only love can save the world" while retiring from heroine work to a life of obscurity (note how when she reappears in BvS no one has ever heard of her). Meanwhile Steve Trevor actually saves the day by destroying the poison gas (a threat Diana repeatedly made clear she didn't care about), making the ultimate heroic sacrifice to actually save lives and change the outcome of the war.

- In Man of Steel Clark overcame humanity's mistrust of his alien nature by proving his willingness to abandon loyalty to Krypton and fully assimilate to American society; the movie ends on a hopeful note that he'll be able to use his power to guide humanity toward a brighter future. Wonder Woman ends with Diana more alone and alienated than ever, withdrawing from the world having failed to save anyone or change anything. Again, this is the kind of brilliant subversion that Suicide Squad was supposed to have.

- Danny Huston looms hilariously over the movie as a caricature of a generic, scenery-chewing face of evil. I definitely think the filmmakes made some bold choices, but they are far from making "warfare itself" the villain as some have proposed; if anything they provide a postmodern critique of that approach by showing how trench warfare -- so horrifying to the men who fought it -- is basically a fun game (and chance to show off) to the indestructible Diana. Huston's deliberately underwhelming and absurd fight with Diana is a blackly comic take on the bloated 3rd act showdown these movies always feel obligated to provide (this is then FURTHER lampshaded by actually giving us a bloated 3rd act showdown, against a literal mustache-twirling Dark Apparition From Nowhere with less gravity than a Final Fantasy villain). - Lastly it was amusing how the Germans were so Nazified despite this being WW1. This itself comments on the absurdity of the whole concept of putting a superheroine (especially a cheesecake lingerie-model superheroine in a padded leather corset) in the middle of a horrific meat grinder historical event like WW1. The point is that the studio is saying "WW1, WW2, Nazis or not Nazis, what's the difference? You think the proles in Dayton (and Beijing) will care? They're Krauts! They deserve to die!". This is black humor at its finest, and makes a trenchant jab at the similar dehumanization of the Other seen in movies like Saving Private Ryan.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The jokes felt forced and more cringe worthy than anything. Yeah she's an amazon but let her get beat up a bit. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Painfully bad entry into a painfully bad DC universe. Origin story of Diana ,who doesn't know who she really is,raised by Amazons who have no clue what's outside their little invisible island area.
The first hour and a half are incredibly tedious as Diana is at first shielded from harm by her mother not letting her be trained but then ends up being trained to be the 'best there is' .
She then saves Steve and goes off into the war with a rag tag group of character actors to find and slay Aries the god of war and end the second world war.
The direction is pretty bad in this film as there are lots of inconsistencies in Diana's character.
At first she's never seen a man before but a day later she's talking about having read sex manuals.
At first she is a confused girl who doesn't fight when the Germans attack Themiscura and a day later she's a cross between Captain America and the Incredible Hulk.
They do the 'fish out of water' thing for awhile when she first hits western society which is awkward and more awkwardness when they mingle sexual tension in as they go along with Steve.
It is done very clumsily and rivals Amadala's romance with Anikin Skywalker in Star Wars for cringeworthiness. She has a shield and 'the sword that is the only thing that can kill Aries' but thinks nothing of just handing them to a frumpy government secretary to wander off with.
Some warrior.
Occasionally during this they go off and we see a bad general and his evil scientist henchwoman who have developed poison gas to kill everyone .
Oh and they had to bring the plight of the North American native into it as well which was kind of out of place to say the least.
I don't think i'll be watching any more DC films unless they can get Joss Whedon to direct.
Gadot still isn't a very good actor to play WW in my opinion as she isn't strong looking enough and hasn't got the acting gravitas to pull it off.
When they put her in a suit and hat to disguise she just shrinks out of sight and she and steve do a bit of an I Love Lucy type skit thing in a room with the allied generals.
The action isn't all that great either .
See this film at your own peril. Dunno how it gets so many good reviews. I couldn't wait to get out of the theatre personally.

However it loses all credibility as it becomes clear that in the wake of "bad" DC films like suicide squad and BVS that executives forced this to effectively dance around in the skin of Disney super hero films. Brings the same ridiculousness, rejection of any sort of depth and selling out its own brand originality alienating a large portion of its own gen X fanbase with abundant Anti-grimdark so as to pander to millenials.

Only bright spot was Gadot's performance was better than expected despite that she creates a visual disconnect that makes her "off" as Diana of Themyscira as she has neither the right physique nor facial structure for Wonder Woman. Close, but uncanny valley level of "off". Not quite expressive or emotive enough in scenes where it is appropriate. Honestly it is hard to determine if the problem is her performance is just not quite up to it, Or if it is that she is hamstrung by hokey, cliched writing and/or pandering direction.

Had WB execs not been clearly pulling puppet strings trying to make this into a Disney/marvel production, and clearly doing extensive greasing critic palms to ensure glowing pre release reviews trying to trick the public into an inaccurate perception, then the film would have been a 4 or a 5. However all that is really here is a mediocre film trying to pander to so many demographics such as millenials and feminists that it does not grasp exactly who it is offending and just hopes to snag those demos support to carry into being received far better than it actually is.

When you whittle away the marketing all you are left with is downright boring. Which is the greatest sin any film can ever make because it is defeating its only purpose. Anyone telling you that this film is anything otherwise is lying to either you or themselves and doing so out of being oblivious to social engineering. It is what it is.

0/10 for making a Disney superhero flick with DC properties and trying to pay their way out of anyone noticing before release. Otherwise 4/10

Bunch of problems with this train wreck:
- It's dumb and exploitative on multiple levels to make a movie about a scantily clad sword-wielding woman helping to win World War 1
- We get it, the Amazons are all huge feminists dripping with contempt and disdain for men and Western civilization generally, what a fun and engaging concept for a movie
- "Doctor Poison"? Really?
- Could they not even get an American actress to play an American icon like Wonder Woman? The Israeli accent was a constant distraction
- Gal Gadot is cute, but as BvS proved she's not much of an actress. This is a woman who until just recently was best known for a throwaway eye candy role in Fast & Furious movies.
- The action scenes (super strong woman with shield fighting old timey soldiers) were very derivative of the original Captain America movie. With the superhero market so overstuffed these days it'd be nice to have some original visuals and action, but no dice.
- Chris Pine is totally unconvincing as a ladies' man. He's a decent actor but it's pretty clear (as it was in Star Trek) that he doesn't actually swing that way in reality.

I was thinking, oh look woman can build up something, there are no intrigues, no drama, everyone is working, haha. Yes, yes. If it was reality, we men would be very thankful and had less problems. There were also many more logical problems in this movie, that made it difficult to get into it. But, I enjoyed the mystic stories in the movie: Like the classic stories, they describes our feelings with legends and gods. So there was hope for the movie, but it was clear, this movie cant be great. Later on I discovered another beautiful element, the critics on our civilization full of lies, hatred, selfishness, loss of empathy to each other, hide our lovely feelings was hard for me, because it touches a truth, that my psyche remembers me every day: It wants to leave this artificial world and return to the natural life, I have already had in my life. Some parts of the movie gave me another motivation to sell everything and move to another country, where people have time to each other, both sexes are loving each other instead of fighting. Gal, the actress of WW is just beautiful, but she failed in the action parts of the movie. In addition the CGI effects were only average. The background music very clichéd. Expand

Would they walk away with a greater appreciation for the character director Patty Jenkins, or would the whole thing be a busy. Turns out, it was a massive success as everyone loved the move, just not me. I loved Gal Gadot's take on the character, despite some early concern that she might not be able to carry a movie on her own and director Patty Jenkins did a solid job directing. My gripe actually lay with the writing. This movie felt like two completely disjointed movies trying unsuccessfully to become one. One movie was about a US military pilot, Steve Trevor and his quest to convince his superiors of an impending enemy attack during World War I. After initially being dismissed, his supervisors discovered he was right all along and allowing Steve to lead a defensive effort to save the day. Great movie. Heartwarming and motivational. It actually felt like something worthy of Steven Spielberg or Christopher Nolan.

The second movie, more fitting for Wonder Woman, was about a warrior amd her quest for self discovery. During her adventure she learns of a secret from her past, thought buried forever, who her true parents are. Admittedly I understand the connection, however, the execution left the film feeling disjointed, as the inclusion of one story greatly diminished the effectiveness of other. I think the movie would've been significantly better if the creators chose to focus more on the titular character rather than interrupt someone else's movie and insert Wonder Woman in a way that felt forced.

The big moments of the film seemed telegraphed from the beginning for me. The slow-mo was used so much that expected at one point during a fight scene Gal Gadot winking at the camera because of how "cool" she looked. I enjoyed the actors, and I enjoyed the plot, but for me I feel like the other DCU films sullied this one. Had she been given her own stand alone film BEFORE BvS, I think I'd have felt different. Since her film was already linked to that trainwreck though, I feel like it's "too little, too late" for the DCU films. I'd say Suicide Squad was actually slightly better (only slightly) than this and that's because it was simply a more "fun" film. Should you see it? YES. Would I pay to see it a second time/purchase it? Not personally. Expand

It is indeed a massive improvement over the lackluster Batman vs Superman and the disaster that was Suicide Squad. However, there was just something missing in Wonder Woman that left me feeling a little disappointed. Which is a shame, because this movie had a great foundation. Wonder Woman in World War I, trying to end the war to end all wars. And overall, I did like the characters, I like Diana's and Steve's relationship, I liked the perspective Diana had about the human world. How she had to learn and grow, as anyone would have to.
Unfortunately, after a very long two hours, the climax came, and everything the film did right was undone. In a final battle, filled with mediocre CGI, an overly silly villain, and lame action. It didn't help that Gal Gadot's lack of acting experience was massively exposed, especially when paired with seasoned actors like Robin Wright.
Believe me, the movie is good. DC is not dead yet. But the film is not the game changer that the reviews will say.
Still, I enjoyed it, and I think you will too.

The Amazonian princess Diana's quest-come-self-discovery!

From all the superhero films, this was one of the most anticipated. Mainly because of the woman oriented theme. People were desperate to see the solo woman superhero. Today, we have the great visual effects technology, that anything can be possible to bring on to the screen. And actress like Gal Gadot, even better it gets. Yes, it was a wonderful film. A simple storyline, but a well made film.

The Amazonians who are cut off from the rest of the world, is preparing for the battle if Ares returns. All these years nothing has happened, but one day a fighter pilot crash on the cost of their island. Then the princess embark a journey back with him to find, and end the Ares threat forever. But she only ends up in the WWII, and what happens in the following sequence are the rest of the film.

Who would have done a better job than Patty Jenkins. She nailed it, and so set to direct the sequel too. Even the supporting cast was good. DC's visuals always high standards and so this one. Action sequences too amazing. There's lots of changes in the character, as well as in everything. Firstly a nice superhero costume. And connections like Diana's father, the island, all pretty nicely written out. The DC universe just got extended. I can't wait to see 'Justice League'.

The pacing is a bit disjointed and unfortunately, fight scenes do not retain the impressive choreography featured in BvS, opting to depend rather on CG animations, which do not hold up to 2017 standards. Alas, DCEU has yet to produce a film capable of salvaging its shoddy introduction. Expand

The plot and dialogue is very one dimensional at the beginning also, school play standard to be honest....but the whole thing really grows on you as it progresses and is extremely entertaining in and of itself. Its an origin story and a morality tale , one with holes, but it’s fantasy after all so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. Chris Pine is the best I've seen him, He really is a good actor when given the opportunity.. Expand

The choreography is impressive, the musical composition isn't garbage, the acting is up to standardsWhile I won't deny that Wonder Woman is a fun and enjoyable move to see, I can't bring myself to give this movie more then an "Eh" review. The choreography is impressive, the musical composition isn't garbage, the acting is up to standards but the movie itself is nothing but tired cliches and lazy writing. I understand why the movie is getting good reviews, and that's because I believe the director and writers played it safe. There's nothing spectacular about this movie, nothing interesting or ground breaking, it's just alright. Gal Gadot did a great job, don't get me wrong, but by the end, there was nothing I could talk about to my friends about how amazing it is, no scene that stood out, no actor/actress that deserved more recognition than the rest. So, is Wonder Woman a good movie? Yes, I'd say it's an enjoyable movie to see. Is it a diamond of cinema achievement? I'd say no. It's a story that comes a dime a dozen, and therefore not worth much more than a nice night out with your friends or family. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For those not familiar with DC universe this is a good overall story with good twists and turns. Worth watching once but some slow parts, unnecessary scenes and plain dialog. 13 year olds will probably love it.

The lead in part was good to give some backstory but a little too long (could have saved 3-4 minutes here). For example, the whole we can't tell her who she really is was overdone. Say it once and be done. The little girl chase scene could have been reduced. The plane crash and saving of him was too long. The beach attack kept pace well -- the slo-mo probably not needed. The bathing scene as I would call it was too long and not needed (but for some, maybe they will enjoy it).

Pine does a good job.

I thought the special effects were very good.

the actors -- some were better than others-- some of the lines may be to blame and at times her attempt to find a balance between super smart Amazon intellect and communicating with normal people left something to be desired. I wasn't sure how to interpret this- WW is brilliant and this is highlighted in the movie, but her communication with "people" was just off. I couldn't tell if this was intentional or not but noticeably uncomfortable for me to listen to during the movie. I liked the ending, and the final battle was not too long (by much anyways). Certainly, this is the best recent DC movie - Would I watch it again at the theater -- no. Worth watching, most certainly.

She was able to be a badass and also be the naive fish out of water. Sure, the script took liberties with the Wonder Woman back story and was much more reliant on Greek mythology than either the comics or the 1970s Linda Carter TV show (with Debra Winger as little sister Drucilla). It also changed the present day from WW2 to WW1. The latter choice was probably due to the first Captain America being set in WW2. The "Great War" setting plays though. It was cool to see the staging of the WW photo seen in the truly bad Batman v. Superman. This is by far the best of the DC movies (I don't count the Dark Knight movies as DC movies). DC has been better at animated films. This is entertaining and fun and ultimately a great summer movie. Expand

I have to admit action scenes were good but at the same time find the way amazons fight over the top and probably not good for battle, the way germans invaded the beach was plain stupid.
There were also others physics related problems everytime Diana used her super strenght that kept me out of the movie.

But the worst problem of the movie, at least in my opinion, is the fact that Chris Pine's character was more a hero than Wonder Woman.

Extra points because it wasn't as bad as Suicide Squad.

The film's not bad otherwise. It's the best DC movie to date and has a great cinematography and decent acting and SFX. Also, I love how it focuses on small mundane moments to make the characters more as normal humans.

And by that I mean that it has a central hook to differentiate itself from other superhero movies (this is basically Thor meets Captain America meets a woman) but is letdown by an especially convoluted and nonsensical neverending ending - not only did it not make sense on a visual level but neither did it on a plot level with some of the "twists" and actions undertaken.

Some of the bright spots include the casting, the first half for the most part, the rapport between Diana and Steve, and some of the action choreography when it's close quarters.

Diana's naivete felt kind of out of place or overdone - sure she doesn't understand certain things about the outside world but she acts like a childish moron sometimes (like Thor without the undercurrent of angst and the general sense that he's that way all the time). Not to mention her "resolve" at the end is a bit unfounded considering she was right about Ares. Not only did that reveal make the Amazon women look like idiots but it also justified her belief in people and in a sense let them off the hook from being selfish and evil in their own way. She got to learn a lesson but not too hard of one and she was right anyway so oh well.

Related Media: The character (Diana / Wonder Woman) had a cameo in Batman Vs Superman (BVS) recently and before that, in numerous comic books, cartoons and live action TV shows. I know a bit of her backstory.
>
What’s it like? This is the origin story of Diana growing up on the hidden island of Themyscira, her training, and her entry into our world to help mankind. >
Pros:
>
1. For a character that has not been covered in detail in a feature-length film, this endeavour is fresh, interesting and has a couple of surprises.
>
2. The casting of Gal Gadot was perfect. She comes off as beautiful, genuine and caring, the characteristics you would expect of a wonder woman, regardless of whether you had known what Wonder Woman should be like. It's instant recognition, done very well.
>
3. Many of the action scenes were very well done and the use of slow-motion was executed well. When the same thing was tried on BVS, it looked fake.
>
Cons:
>
1. Some of the action scenes looked implausible. I know this is a fantasy film, but my view is that physical laws can be stretched but they should not be broken. That the film chose to break some of them unnecessarily made me feel that the film could have been done better.
>
2. The film slows down at some points and gets awkward at others. Some details that do not make sense have also been left unexplained or explained poorly. Examples of this include how she was able to speak over 100 languages. Furthermore, she should be keeping the existence of Themyscira secret, but there were several people openly talking about the island and no attempt was made to stop this.
>
3. There was one instance Diana sent an email to a certain famous person by simply typing the person's name in the To field. This would not work in reality! That name would need to have been underlined to indicate that her email software knows the real email address and has auto-inserted the email address there. >
4. Gal Gadot has an accent, and it seems that the director had made all the caucasian characters on Themyscira speak with the same accent, so as to explain Gal Gadot's accent as that of the people of Themyscira. It comes off as a little irritating.
>
How would the different age groups rate it?

Teenagers: Excellent
Young adults: Good
Medium age adults: Good

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS DRAMATICALLY: Many other reviewers have already eloquently expressed the issues with this movie. Perhaps the problem was that the movie had too much responsibility resting on Gal Gadot's shoulders. The idea that finally, having a female superhero could somehow save the DC universe's Justice League curse.

Sadly, the same **** three act piece of **** script was played out here. It's overly long, overly sentimental, and just gushing with sentiments about love. A literal goddess falls in love with humanity - the playthings of her father.

There are nice moments in the first two acts, but the entire German WW1 plot is laughable - maybe so much so that it will eventually be funny. Much much too long, did not pass the 'need to pee' test. You can't have a drink in this overly long movie... the end fight scene alone will feel like a literal millennia and you will be as lonely and sad as Diana herself in your desperate need to pee and your firm belief it has to be over soon.

It’s difficult to decide which was worse, the plot, the script or the acting. Toward the end, one of the major characters kills themselves. I felt nothing, other than elation at being one step closer to the end of the movie. It’s right up there with Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad. DC now stands for Dud Cinema. Avoid. Don’t even watch when it’s on free to air TV. Never watch this film if you value your brain and believe that movies are an art form.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is just plain awful. The personality of the main character makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. They are trying to portray her as this innocent holy child who has no idea of the world "out there" and believes that every human is intrinsically good and has to be protected. But then for some reason just because some random British guy is telling her yeah the Germans are the bad guys she runs around killing them gleefully to save the British while still talking about how everyone needs to be saved and it's not their fault. Then there's the scene where the Generals say they won't attack Belgium because they want a peace treaty, and she gets enraged at them because they won't allow attacking somewhere although she really just wants everyone to have peace? What? Isn't the point of her peace keeping duty exactly to STOP this "but they have evil intentions so we HAVE to keep attacking them!" attitude?

It never felt like they actually thought a second about how to make this movie make any sense and just rushed out a lazy "cool superhero who just beats up bad guys" origin story, while at the same time trying to make her an innocent "nobody should be hurt if possible" character, which just doesn't go together like this.

I had high hopes for this movie. The trailers were very good (although all of the DCEU's trailer were good), Gal Gadot, one of the best things about Batman v Superman, was Wonder Woman, and it was getting good reviews from critics! I mean, it had all the ingredients to make a wonderful super salad. However, when I walked out I was shocked at how wrong I was. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the movie was good. Particularly towards the beginning where she is with Chris Pine (Hearthrob, and Captain in the Star Trek movies) on their way to London. Some character setting, fight sequences, some funny moments later, we get to the part of the movie where it drags down. SHe finds the "Bad guy", only to (spoiler alert) find out its not the bad guy, which you would guess halfway through the movie. Then, oh God, then the awful emalgamation know as the "ending" to this movie begins. The CGI, throughout the movie, was spotty at best, but here it is just... it looks like it could've come from a 2008 movie. And also the villain reveal was just stupid, out of all the potential people it could've been, it was THAT GUY? So the ending aside, there is one more sin this movie committed. THE MUSIC. Man, was it just generic and boring, overdramatic as well. You literally could've grabbed this music, and place it on any, and I mean ANY, Marvel movie. Also, I feel as though they could've chosen a better war, like World War 2, to set it in. There was a clear definition of who was good and who was bad in this movie, and in World War 1, there truly was no good or bad guys. It was just a bunch of people fighting each other for no good reason other than a guy, a guy who no one really liked in the first place, being assassinated. But, that is just a matter of opinion, and as such, it will not affect this review significantly. In conclusion, this movie was pretty good at first, and had a lot going for it, but then the end, just absolutely destroyed the movie for me, as well as the orchestra. Oh, and can you spell cliche? If you want to see a good movie, I'd wait for some other superhero movies, or maybe see that new horror movie "It Comes at Night." Thank you for your time in reading this, and I hope to see you in the next review. Expand

The movie gets at least a 10-point deduction right there, which may explain why not one metacritic review gave it 100. Another knock on the director goes to the realism of some of the battle scenes. I never felt like I was looking at anything other than a set during the scenes in the Belgian town, for example. The budget should have been big enough to conjure up a bit more Saving Private Ryan. That’s another 10 points. Now that we’ve put things into better context, let’s say that Gal Gadot is a great choice, and I look forward to a nation (world) of girls wanting to grow up to be like her. Physically imposing, sincerely expressive, and capable of byplay with Chris Pine—well done, box checked for our lithe super heroine. The special effects were more distracting than dramatic, but this only had a meaningful negative impact on the obligatorily apocalyptic finale. I left the theater somewhat disappointed, but they’ll get another chance to tighten it up in the next go-round. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went to see the movie with all the 90%ish reviews and oh boy, was I disappointed.

Gal Gadot plays an ok Wonder Woman and she probably is one of the brighter spots of the movie.
The history is during WWI but it pretty much looks like WWII. The bad general could be substituted by a standard-cliche-WWII-Nazi-badguy and the evil female henchman is a WWI Dr.Mengele clone. Some of the outfits also are more WWII than WWI but those are details. The Germans are bad. The British are good.

Despite its flaws the movie could be a solid 6 if not for the final 20-30 mins when it all goes to poop. Once the evil general (who is believe to be Ares by Wonder Woman) is slain there were two choices the creators could do. 1) Diana realizes that good and evil have nothing to do with Ares. That people are just a mixed bag. Steve could then convince her that the good ones are still worth fighting for. You get some deeper morality involved.
2) Make a plot twist when it turns out Ares has a mustache and make 20-30 min of cliches with cheesy dialog along with MASSIVE BLOWING STUFF UP WITH BAD CGI and creating loop holes in the meantime.

Now we all know which one they chose.

The Good:
Gal Gadot
Chris Pine
The Amazon Island

This is meh combination of Thor with Captain America. I don`t have issues with the whole "feminist" feeling of the movie and I love the idea they made a solo female superhero movie but I think its a failed opportunity unfortunately

I agree with some of the reviews: poor CGI and bad acting. This is not an above average movie. The best thing about this movie which I like is the lesson it wants to convey: It's not about what you deserve; it's what you believe.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I genuinely made a Metacritic account JUST to make a review for this movie. And it is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. (SPOILERS) They had Nigel **** Thornberry as the main villain, the Green Screen was anything but professional, they acting was, eh, a 5/10 and I could say the same for the screenplay, cinematography, directing etc. I'm serious, don't watch this movie unless you're a genuine fan of Wonder Woman. By now you should have seen it if so. If not, don't. Also, the whole movie revolves around this woman or "God" will eventually find Ares and kill him without her even knowing her own abilities or who she's facing. All she knows are legends. I genuinely could not recommend this movie less. Also, I would've liked to say that the casting was OK, but that would be a lie. LAUGHABLE Expand

Just because it has women in it doesn't make it feminist. A mediocre film is a mediocre film. Also why do none of the feminists care they gave her love powers. I think this score is 100% hype and you all are sheeple.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would like to start off by saying that aspects of this movie really impressed me. The actions scenes were packed full of spectacle as you would expect from a Zack Snyder movie, the choreography and visual design of the scenes were very impressive and really commanded the tone of how powerful wonder woman became through all of her training as an Amazonian, and I think the "modernization" of wonder woman really hit the spot as to what my expectations were of the costume designs and fighting style.

However, in the periods between fighting scenes the movie exhibits a complete lack of direction. The origin story is dry and incomplete and it felt rushed. It seems like they were trying to pack a nice origin story to round off the character and introduce us to wonder woman but by doing that they achieved nothing more than mashing two incomplete stories together and frustrating the genuineness of the relationship between Steve and Diana.

Also, the island origin story is just awkward and non-eventful. Diana leaving the island (her home) has to mean more to her than simply fulfilling some mythological prophecy. For example, a movie like Moana does this well by having the character go through the struggle of leaving home and making that internal struggle carry throughout the movie. Nothing about leaving home is easy but Diana should have let us know how important it was for her to do so. Instead it felt like a teenager wanting to go out for a date night and mom finally saying it was ok.

Some people are praising Gadot's performance but I don't think I can agree mostly because of how poorly written the character was. In fact, mostly all of the character's were poorly written (especially the so called side-kicks). I mean who's decision was it to have the Indian character use smoke signals as his biggest contribution to the movie. They might as well just have had no side-kicks at all with how useless they were at driving the plot and creating foils for Diana.

In general, I think the movie did not live up to the hype. It was a fluffed up, poorly written, characterless movie with absolutely no bite. The script is horrendous and I cannot believe that they were able to get this shot at all given how bad it was. I mean to have a movie about a bad ass character like wonder woman where her best motivation is "love for a man" is a complete slap to all feminists out there looking for a break from seeing men kick ass. And needless to say her love motivation did not fit in at all with the mythology behind the whole movie. It's almost like every scene was written by a completely different person experience a case of writer's block so they grabbed whatever common trope in hero movies was most readily available. The whole point of Zeus and Ares fighting is that they disagree on fundamental things about people. I think they did a lackluster job of displaying this through Diana's character.

Like the more recent comic book Hollywood movies, story telling is a second class citizen and I think Wonder Woman is the clear exemplar of how movies can be so good in one sense but leave us completely deflated and hungry for the themes and characters that shine in mediums other than the silver screen.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I tried really hard to give this movie a chance. I don't like superhero movies generally, but this was recommended to me by others who don't like the genre and thought it had great moments with a female hero at the center and a decent story. Of course, this requires that you are able to ignore inevitable goofs and immerse yourself in the movie.
If I had started watching it after about three drinks there's a small possibility I could get to that place, because Wonder Woman i requires turning off 2/3 of your brain and enjoy some pretty decent cinematography and eye candy actors. Definitely a minimum of drunkeness to ignore the stupid rubber costume that only needs ears and a tail to qualify for the Playboy Bunny Club. To ignore an abuse of Greek mythology that makes Clash of the Titans look good by comparison. (I know this is a DC universe story but COME ON!!) It takes great restrain to limit my comments to the fact that Diana was a ROMAN goddess. ARTEMIS is the original Greek, not associated with the Amazons definitely associated with chastity. (big bummer for Steve there), Ares (Greek) was one of the dumbest gods in the pantheon, and ONLY Zeus(Greek) got to play with thunder/lightning bolts. Then there is the utterly predictable, cheesy dialogue, cardboard minority characters to "round out" the story. Tons of magic bullets, behavior that isn't naive its circus clownish. (Dress Diana up so she blends in, which she gets, but then walks out holding her sword and shield in the most obvious manner possible?! And she's supposed to have a brain under that perfectly coiffed hair?!?) Oh, and a plot that doesn't have holes, it has giant sucking black holes of ridiculousness. For example. Okay, so Diana knows dozens of languages because her barbarian but highly civilized island has been around forever. Great. BUT MODERN ENGLISH DIDN'T EVEN EXIST UNTIL THE 15TH CENTURY. Unless naughty Amazons sneak out routinely to mingle with the mortals, they should only be well versed in languages from 5th century BC. And frankly, if they are sneaking out to bone up on the local lingo, they might just pick up something better than bronze age weapons. Cause, steel is a lot stronger ya know? And those spiffy gauntlets and little shield may repel bullets, but that still leaves the legs, arms, torso and head available for nice messy gunshot wounds.
A second example that had me screaming at the tv screen. Our main characters travel from somewhere (supposedly) in the Aegean Sea to London on a two person fishing punt, no supplies, no food, no MAPS & everybody taking a nice nap after setting the GPS locator instead of steering. It arrives in a few days after encountering a tug boat (?!?!) to pull them up the Thames. If they'd made the Amazons' island a floating mystic thing that travels around the world, it would at least have some shred of internal logic. I don't demand accuracy from a fantasy story, but having internal logic is a pretty low bar to clear and this clunker smacks into that bar head first.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally went to see Wonder Woman in the dollar theater.

Out of ALL the reviews I read since this movie came out, not one of them….NOT ONE……ever, EVER mentioned that this is a COMEDY! A laugh riot, farcical comedy! OMG!!!! I haven’t seen anything this hysterical since Liar Liar and Batman and Robin!!! All the “good” reviews out there make SO much sense now!!! The BAD acting! The screwed up Wonder Woman storyline! The inaccuracies GALORE!! The laughable and incorrect “accents”!!!! The FLAT CHESTED, DWARF woman playing the Amazon! The superlative BAD, BAD casting! OMG! Patty Jenkins is a COMEDIC MASTER!!! Besides the absolute brilliance at a hobbit Wonder Woman, David Thewlis as “Ares” was divine comedy perfection! To cast one of the best “C” grade actors in Britain as a “god” was indescribably the most brilliant comedic move to date! I laughed so hard, I almost pee’d my pants!!

I think the ONLY actor in the whole movie who was trying to be serious, was the woman playing “Etta Candy”! She was MARVELOUS! She put everybody else to shame!

This movie isn’t billed as a comedy, so I fully expected some actual serious stuff. But after almost cracking a few ribs after watching this enormously hysterical comedy of errors, I can see now why so many people liked it.

SUCH a good laugh! But I have to say, DC has destroyed Wonder Woman for me. And after being such a long time fan and collector, this just completely destroyed everything Wonder Woman stands for and fights for. But alas, even after getting such a good laugh out of this “movie”, I still want my dollar back!

I don't if I should make a big deal about or be apathetic for **** this like makes no sense - It is not indictment of women that the movies they directed didn't earn such moolah ever before. But perhaps, highlighting such may affect the industry in a better way hopefully.
This is a movie that for me stood because of Gal Gadot taking the titular role and it her own in terms of sheer glamour, grace, beauty and strength she portrayed. Rarely before have I been convinced of strong superwoman portrayal. Also Chris Pine and his gang of burly front-liners are much more poignant in men at war storyline, despite how hackneyed and bad the World War background was shown; not that much is expected of superhero movies in that regard anyway.
The thing that makes this movie was worth the watch is it values the meaning of sacrifice and the impact of human lives; despite all their darkness and malevolence, the important choice to be made of what, who and why you want to believe in. That's what Wonder Woman is about.

This is one of the best movies this year so far, and the best DC movie ever.

I knew Wonder Woman was going to be good. There was just too much good press, too many great reviews and too many of my friends that were gushing. I was ready to be disappointed because almost anything couldn't live up to that hype, but it did.

Gal Gadot is a wonderful actress. She really came across as someone who was engaged in a childhood quest and learned the realities of life that make those quests never what they were supposed to be. She did action very well, just more proof that women and action movies should be together. She carried great humor, and just overall sold that role.

I have a love-hate-hate relationship with DC. I did like all the Batman's, I liked the original superman (RIP Christopher Reeves), and I think Ben Affleck did really well as Batman in the most recent Batman V Superman. However lately the DC movies have just sucked, and sucked hard. I did have a bit of a fun time with Suicide Squad, but I did not enjoy Batman V Superman at all. In fact I was worried before the movie came out that Ms. Godot would have sucked. However, this movie has shown that Zack Snyder did her a disservice (and the fans as well) when he didn't focus on her more in that movie. She might have saved that movie.

Oh, and I didn't mention Man of Steel, that is because both the movie and the actor are in the worst list of DC movies (which rank lower than other super hero movies, so it makes it pretty low).

One more point, Patty Jenkins was an awesome director. I suspect most if not all of the reason this movie was great

The good: Everything about this movie is good, the action, the acting, the director, all of it.

The bad: The feeling I am going to have when I go back to the next DC movie that isn't Patty Jenkins or Gal Godot.

It has been a long time since superheroines have their own solo movies on the big screen. Throughout the years of superhero genre, their male counterparts have been dominating the big screen and no movie studios wanted to do superheroines movie due to fear of underperformance such as 1984’s Supergirl and 2005’s Elektra. The fourth instalment in DC Extended Universe features another famous DC Comics’ iconic superheroine, Wonder Woman, in her very first solo movie as the lead character after her big screen debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Sometimes after fighting alongside Batman and Superman in Metropolis and the latter’s death, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gadot) returns back to her normal life in Paris, France where she works as antique curator. She receives a package from Wayne Enterprise and it turns out to be an old photograph of herself and her old allies during World War I which was stolen by Lex Luthor previously. Seeing the old photograph, she recalls her past about her early life and her activities during World War I.

Diana was born and raised in a hidden and mystical island called Themyscira. When she grew up, she was trained as an Amazon warrior by her aunt, General Antiope, although her mother, Queen Hippolyta, was initially reluctant to have her train as warrior. One day, Diana rescued an American pilot named Steve Trevor (Pine), who crashed land on the island while escaping from the German Army. When they caught up to Steve, both him and Diana were joined by the Amazons to fight off the soldiers. Unfortunately, General Antiope was killed in battle.

Steve was interrogated by Queen Hippolyta, which he revealed that the German Army led by General Erich Ludendorff (Huston) and his chief scientist, Dr. Isabel Maru, were developing a new biochemical weapons which will turn the tides of World War I. Steve had stolen Dr. Maru’s notebook containing information about the weapons and he must bring it to his superiors in London, England. Believed that the war was caused by the God of War, Ares, Diana joined Steve on his mission and to stop Ares for good.

Since her debut in the second instalment of the franchise, I knew that Wonder Woman is going to be amazing and I even hope that she will do well in her solo movie. Not only she is able to break the curse of superheroine movies being a failure, she definitely can be as good as her male counterparts.

The performance of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine is amazing. Their on-screen chemistry with each other is very natural and it worked out very well. It is a very good thing that she was not over-sexualised for the sake of fanservice. It would have ruined the quality of the movie. Patty Jenkins deserved to be praised for her direction of this movie and made superheroine movie worth to watch. I really cannot imagine what this movie would have been if this movie is directed by male directors.

The storyline of the movie is good but the villains of this movie lacked character development. Nevertheless, this movie is still fun to watch and it is really worth your time. If you think superheroine movies are bad, this one will definitely will change your mind. Hopefully, this movie will inspire other movie studios to make superheroine movies in the future.

Wonder Woman is one of my comic book heroes and movie adaptations can go either way, but this is fantastic! Kudos to director Patty Jenkins and wonderful Gal Gadot!

actually Wonder Woman was a less budgeted film than other dc movies, the visual effects of the film were bad, of course because of the low budget,I didn't find the film's visual effects enough, but it was a nice superhero movie.

I like the film to pass in time of world war, there wasn't much action, so there was no big war.Last scene contained really good messages and was very emotional.I wish I would continue the movie at the same time, but I think we will return to the present, at least Batman will participate in the film. But the main reason why so much appreciation is collected is that I think the universe that is different and that it is really a world war.

I like this movie most among the dc movies,it would be a super movie if they were spending so much money. At the beginning of the film was passed too quickly to pass the subject just wanted to tell the life of a little wonder woman, but could be more beautiful.

I can safely say that "Wonder Woman" is the best DC movie since "The Dark Knight" trilogy. It contains a charismatic performance by Gal Gadot, a mostly well-paced storyline and great action sequences.

Wonder Woman presents some great performances, and surprising, thrilling and emotional story. But unfortunately, it's not perfect! The CGI was most of time bad, and the length is too long for such a movie!

Otherwise, WW is such a decent movie.
