IT's a solid movie, better than most other very boring "me-too" comic book movies we've been subjected too over the last several years. And Gadot is excellent. However, throughout the movie, I kept thinking of Agent Carter. I will say that the supporting cast on the island at he beginning, including Robin Wright, were excellent. So good, solid movie, but absolutely not among the best movies of the year. This movie can't possibly be rated higher than a 6 and I need to give this a 4. It doesn't bring anything new and fresh to the table other than a female protagonist. The jokes felt forced and more cringe worthy than anything. Yeah she's an amazon but let her get beat up a bit. Look at games like the new Tomb Raiders to see how a female protagonist should really be done. Gritty and unforgiving, Laura from the movie Logan had more depth than this piece of crap.… Expand

There were also many more logical problems in this movie, that made it difficult to get into it. But, I enjoyed the mystic stories in the movie: Like the classic stories, they describes our feelings with legends and gods. So there was hope for the movie, but it was clear, this movie cant be great. Later on I discovered another beautiful element, the critics on our civilization full of lies, hatred, selfishness, loss of empathy to each other, hide our lovely feelings was hard for me, because it touches a truth, that my psyche remembers me every day: It wants to leave this artificial world and return to the natural life, I have already had in my life. Some parts of the movie gave me another motivation to sell everything and move to another country, where people have time to each other, both sexes are loving each other instead of fighting. Gal, the actress of WW is just beautiful, but she failed in the action parts of the movie. In addition the CGI effects were only average. The background music very clichéd.… Expand

I wouldn't say it was a bad film in any capacity, but like most of the reviews I've been reading: it was nothing special to me. The big moments of the film seemed telegraphed from the beginning for me. The slow-mo was used so much that expected at one point during a fight scene Gal Gadot winking at the camera because of how "cool" she looked. I enjoyed the actors, and I enjoyed the plot, but for me I feel like the other DCU films sullied this one. Had she been given her own stand alone film BEFORE BvS, I think I'd have felt different. Since her film was already linked to that trainwreck though, I feel like it's "too little, too late" for the DCU films. I'd say Suicide Squad was actually slightly better (only slightly) than this and that's because it was simply a more "fun" film. Should you see it? YES. Would I pay to see it a second time/purchase it? Not personally.… Expand

Wonder Woman is a bit overrated. Not to say that the movie is bad, far from it. It is indeed a massive improvement over the lackluster Batman vs Superman and the disaster that was Suicide Squad. However, there was just something missing inWonder Woman is a bit overrated. Not to say that the movie is bad, far from it. It is indeed a massive improvement over the lackluster Batman vs Superman and the disaster that was Suicide Squad. However, there was just something missing in Wonder Woman that left me feeling a little disappointed. Which is a shame, because this movie had a great foundation. Wonder Woman in World War I, trying to end the war to end all wars. And overall, I did like the characters, I like Diana's and Steve's relationship, I liked the perspective Diana had about the human world. How she had to learn and grow, as anyone would have to.
Unfortunately, after a very long two hours, the climax came, and everything the film did right was undone. In a final battle, filled with mediocre CGI, an overly silly villain, and lame action. It didn't help that Gal Gadot's lack of acting experience was massively exposed, especially when paired with seasoned actors like Robin Wright.
Believe me, the movie is good. DC is not dead yet. But the film is not the game changer that the reviews will say.
Still, I enjoyed it, and I think you will too.… Expand

The pacing is a bit disjointed and unfortunately, fight scenes do not retain the impressive choreography featured in BvS, opting to depend rather on CG animations, which do not hold up to 2017 standards. Alas, DCEU has yet to produce a film capable of salvaging its shoddy introduction.… Expand

While I won't deny that Wonder Woman is a fun and enjoyable move to see, I can't bring myself to give this movie more then an "Eh" review. I understand why the movie is getting good reviews, and that's because I believe the director and writers played it safe. There's nothing spectacular about this movie, nothing interesting or ground breaking, it's just alright. Gal Gadot did a great job, don't get me wrong, but by the end, there was nothing I could talk about to my friends about how amazing it is, no scene that stood out, no actor/actress that deserved more recognition than the rest. So, is Wonder Woman a good movie? Yes, I'd say it's an enjoyable movie to see. Is it a diamond of cinema achievement? I'd say no. It's a story that comes a dime a dozen, and therefore not worth much more than a nice night out with your friends or family.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For those not familiar with DC universe this is a good overall story with good twists and turns. Worth watching once but some slow parts, unnecessary scenes and plain dialog. 13 year olds will probably love it.

The lead in part was good to give some backstory but a little too long (could have saved 3-4 minutes here). For example, the whole we can't tell her who she really is was overdone. Say it once and be done. The little girl chase scene could have been reduced. The plane crash and saving of him was too long. The beach attack kept pace well -- the slo-mo probably not needed. The bathing scene as I would call it was too long and not needed (but for some, maybe they will enjoy it).

Pine does a good job.

I thought the special effects were very good.

the actors -- some were better than others-- some of the lines may be to blame and at times her attempt to find a balance between super smart Amazon intellect and communicating with normal people left something to be desired. I wasn't sure how to interpret this- WW is brilliant and this is highlighted in the movie, but her communication with "people" was just off. I couldn't tell if this was intentional or not but noticeably uncomfortable for me to listen to during the movie. I liked the ending, and the final battle was not too long (by much anyways). Certainly, this is the best recent DC movie - Would I watch it again at the theater -- no. Worth watching, most certainly.… Expand

Not sure why people loved this movie, the story was dull and long, the old germans are evil we are good got boring in the last century at least do it well like Wolfenstein series.

I have to admit action scenes were good but at the same time find the way amazons fight over the top and probably not good for battle, the way germans invaded the beach was plain stupid.
There were also others physics related problems everytime Diana used her super strenght that kept me out of the movie.

But the worst problem of the movie, at least in my opinion, is the fact that Chris Pine's character was more a hero than Wonder Woman.

Extra points because it wasn't as bad as Suicide Squad.… Expand

Just another superhero movie. And by that I mean that it has a central hook to differentiate itself from other superhero movies (this is basically Thor meets Captain America meets a woman) but is letdown by an especially convoluted andJust another superhero movie. And by that I mean that it has a central hook to differentiate itself from other superhero movies (this is basically Thor meets Captain America meets a woman) but is letdown by an especially convoluted and nonsensical neverending ending - not only did it not make sense on a visual level but neither did it on a plot level with some of the "twists" and actions undertaken.

Some of the bright spots include the casting, the first half for the most part, the rapport between Diana and Steve, and some of the action choreography when it's close quarters.

Diana's naivete felt kind of out of place or overdone - sure she doesn't understand certain things about the outside world but she acts like a childish moron sometimes (like Thor without the undercurrent of angst and the general sense that he's that way all the time). Not to mention her "resolve" at the end is a bit unfounded considering she was right about Ares. Not only did that reveal make the Amazon women look like idiots but it also justified her belief in people and in a sense let them off the hook from being selfish and evil in their own way. She got to learn a lesson but not too hard of one and she was right anyway so oh well.… Expand

This movie... where to begin? I had high hopes for this movie. The trailers were very good (although all of the DCEU's trailer were good), Gal Gadot, one of the best things about Batman v Superman, was Wonder Woman, and it was getting goodThis movie... where to begin? I had high hopes for this movie. The trailers were very good (although all of the DCEU's trailer were good), Gal Gadot, one of the best things about Batman v Superman, was Wonder Woman, and it was getting good reviews from critics! I mean, it had all the ingredients to make a wonderful super salad. However, when I walked out I was shocked at how wrong I was. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the movie was good. Particularly towards the beginning where she is with Chris Pine (Hearthrob, and Captain in the Star Trek movies) on their way to London. Some character setting, fight sequences, some funny moments later, we get to the part of the movie where it drags down. SHe finds the "Bad guy", only to (spoiler alert) find out its not the bad guy, which you would guess halfway through the movie. Then, oh God, then the awful emalgamation know as the "ending" to this movie begins. The CGI, throughout the movie, was spotty at best, but here it is just... it looks like it could've come from a 2008 movie. And also the villain reveal was just stupid, out of all the potential people it could've been, it was THAT GUY? So the ending aside, there is one more sin this movie committed. THE MUSIC. Man, was it just generic and boring, overdramatic as well. You literally could've grabbed this music, and place it on any, and I mean ANY, Marvel movie. Also, I feel as though they could've chosen a better war, like World War 2, to set it in. There was a clear definition of who was good and who was bad in this movie, and in World War 1, there truly was no good or bad guys. It was just a bunch of people fighting each other for no good reason other than a guy, a guy who no one really liked in the first place, being assassinated. But, that is just a matter of opinion, and as such, it will not affect this review significantly. In conclusion, this movie was pretty good at first, and had a lot going for it, but then the end, just absolutely destroyed the movie for me, as well as the orchestra. Oh, and can you spell cliche? If you want to see a good movie, I'd wait for some other superhero movies, or maybe see that new horror movie "It Comes at Night." I never felt like I was looking at anything other than a set during the scenes in the Belgian town, for example. The budget should have been big enough to conjure up a bit more Saving Private Ryan. That’s another 10 points. Now that we’ve put things into better context, let’s say that Gal Gadot is a great choice, and I look forward to a nation (world) of girls wanting to grow up to be like her. Physically imposing, sincerely expressive, and capable of byplay with Chris Pine—well done, box checked for our lithe super heroine. The special effects were more distracting than dramatic, but this only had a meaningful negative impact on the obligatorily apocalyptic finale. I left the theater somewhat disappointed, but they’ll get another chance to tighten it up in the next go-round.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went to see the movie with all the 90%ish reviews and oh boy, was I disappointed.

Gal Gadot plays an ok Wonder Woman and she probably is one of the brighter spots of the movie.
The history is during WWI but it pretty much looks like WWII. The bad general could be substituted by a standard-cliche-WWII-Nazi-badguy and the evil female henchman is a WWI Dr.Mengele clone. Some of the outfits also are more WWII than WWI but those are details. The Germans are bad. The British are good.

Despite its flaws the movie could be a solid 6 if not for the final 20-30 mins when it all goes to poop. Once the evil general (who is believe to be Ares by Wonder Woman) is slain there were two choices the creators could do. 1) Diana realizes that good and evil have nothing to do with Ares. That people are just a mixed bag. Steve could then convince her that the good ones are still worth fighting for. You get some deeper morality involved.
2) Make a plot twist when it turns out Ares has a mustache and make 20-30 min of cliches with cheesy dialog along with MASSIVE BLOWING STUFF UP WITH BAD CGI and creating loop holes in the meantime.

Now we all know which one they chose.

This is meh combination of Thor with Captain America. I don`t have issues with the whole "feminist" feeling of the movie and I love the idea they made a solo female superhero movie but I think its a failed opportunity unfortunately… Expand

Wonder Woman is a cartoonish and cliched movie. The acting bar Chris Pine is subpar. Especially Gadot, who could use a few acting lessons. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You can pretty much tell that the critics are full of crap since most of the praise for this movie is about how the main chatacter and the director are women. Remove those things and you are left with a generic, utterly forgetable movie.

I can understand DC failing with BvS or Suicide Squad, but they have no excuse failing with this one since they already made a good Wonder Woman animated movie, with better story, characters and structure. Also, they have a character based in Greek mythology, probably the richest mythology in the world, with gods, monsters and all kinds of mythical creatures and yet they decided that the best enemies for their Warrior Princess in bikini to fight are soldiers in the First World War. I don't really get the setting, other than the fact that they had to hammer in their feminist message of how opressed women were in the period that they got to stay home instead of dying in some muddy trench. They could have easilly had Diana go all Kratos and kill the entire Mount Olympus, instead we see her killing some poor bastards in the trenches and the movie doesn't even play this for satire like the first Captain America did.

The characters are also subpar. Gal Gadot is the only one that raises above average. She isn't the best at emoting, but she has enough charm and femininity as not to make this character just another man with boobs. Chris Pine is pretty bad though, he has zero charisma and chemistry with the main actress and this makes their relationship feel forced. The other characters are forgetable, from the diversity squad of good guys to the disposble villain. I actually thought they will be clever at the end and reveal that there is no God of War influencing the events and there are just people fighting other people, but the movie is too dumb for that and of course the villain is revealed so they can have a dumb battle at the end.

I do appreciate however that, even though DC went more towards the Marvel formula, they at least had the decency not to add jokes and quips every 30 seconds that ruin all the tension. There is more humour than in the Snyder films, but it's done with taste and they don't feel the need to insert dick and poop jokes just so that it can pander to teenagers and manchildren. And that at least makes it better than Guardians of the Galaxy, if DC fanboys want any comfort.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Interesting how things change. Here I am giving a pretty big deal movie, Wonder Woman, that I was counting on being really good or amazing, a 6. She's a women. It's in your face, but I found the real star of the season bearing the XX chromosome to be Katherine Awesome Waterston of Alien. This doesn't mean I found Diane to be weak or too stoic. Her reactions to our early modern world were pretty cute and funny. Chris Pine is perfectly cast(turns out "casted is not right) and doesn't feel like a re-tread of Kirk. Those two make for a great definition of actor chemistry(Even if super cute Carey Mulligan doesn't believe in that) Take the infectious comedy of the first half and the tower-smashing action scene and this is a really good satisfying movie. But the final battle doesn't come close to the unbelievably amazing Doomsday fight of Batman and Superman. Ares's old British persona doesn't work for me as an adversary. And when he carves out the openings of his helmet in a disconcertingly generic fantasy armor, it's done out of reverence(I was going to say "preference")to his old Zeus battling days rather than out of necessity. Plus floating in the air with telekinetic powers doesn't add up to rough and emotional combat. This, along with it's flurries to a triumphant and pg-13 seen-it-a-million-times tone,comedy dragging the tension down, and stupidly elbow-leaning(that's what I did when I was let down; you know, leaning your elbow on the cup holder, fist to cheek? I was gonna say cringe-inducing but that's regulated to any broadcasted, video game focused event i.e.game awards) Greek mythological back-story do a effective job of dragging the movie down. This all seems very Marvel inspired and I'd be curious as to how the re-shuffling of Warner bro's DC executives might've added to this, but it is likely those parts were already in place before the awful reception of Bat&Sup. While I do feel positive about a good deal of this movie, it's shortcomings leave me with a bad taste in my mouth(unlike that vanilla ice cream) and drag down down my regards for the DC movie universe. But hopefully not enough to stop me from enjoying my 3rd re-watch of the standout title.Lets hope Wonder Woman's different way of doing things doesn't continue with Justice League. But maybe I should've seen this coming. After all, this wasn't directed by Zack Snyder, managing only the role as producer and story writer(apparently their's a difference between being a writer and doing the story). This makes me feel a little bit better about the state of Justice League. Indeed, with the truck and the out of character happy message;(I got a giggle out of seeing a super heroine use something as familiar as gmail)I miss Batman. Now for Pirates of The(seeing it to hear the music)Caribbean.… Expand

The actual lore of Wonder Woman is changed too much and not in a good way. The 'villain' of the movie is not actually a good villain, also Ares getting destroyed in the end is not a good way to end it, and the classic brother and sisters hugging in that scene is also idiotic and bad. Atleast they shouldn't have killed Ares so easy.… Expand

I had high hopes for this flick and unfortunately it failed to meet my expectations. Overall a movie worth watching, especially in an IMAX theater or similar 3D experience.

Special effects were pretty awesome, and most of the action/fighting scenes were very entertaining. The problem is the story line, character development and some of the acting. A lot of the dialogue was poorly written, the interactions and energy between characters were flat. It was one big cliche after another. Again we have Warner Bros/DC missing the mark and failing to bring its characters to life the way Marvell has been doing. 5/10… Expand

I had no expectations going into this fil. I walked away from it feeling "meh" about the storyline. I just wish films like this could be rated R so that you can actually push the acting and narrative to its full potential. Wonder women isI had no expectations going into this fil. Name me a good superhero movie with a female lead. Having trouble? Well look no further now you have one. The story starts off well, giving you all the intro you need, it also isn’t afraid to take some surprisingly dark turns but more importantly Gal Gadot completely owns the role. She’s perfect for Wonder Woman and you can clearly see that because let’s face it you couldn’t tell from her cameo in Batman V Superman. It was a very good idea to hand this over to Patty Jenkins so I’m relieved to say I liked it. Not loved, it’s good but maybe not as good as it could have been. I’m willing to overlook the use of slow motion I’m even going to overlook the unnecessary jokes about “ooh your sword totally doesn’t go with your dress.” But unfortunately I can’t overlook the last 20 minutes. The biggest problem with Wonder Woman is a superhero movie is only as good as its villain and unfortunately this is one of DCs worst. It was very disheartening to see this film descend into a very sloppy ending, the story practically giving up. All the work around gods and war completely undone. Meanwhile you have a villain spouting every cringey bad guy line from every movie you can think of, all while surrounded by lots fire and explosions. Yawn. A disappointing end to an otherwise great movie but of course I’ll recommend it because it’s enjoyable, entertaining and you’ll just love Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.… Expand

Only 1 word to describe overrated. Well it better than BVS for sure but kind of boring . This movie make you feel its stretch too long and really hard to enjoy it. VFX is another weakness , some of the scene like when WW vs Ares look really fake.

The final battle, and then the movie closing shot of Wonder Woman was so poorly done, was a real shame; because the rest of the movie was so much better. It just felt so lazy. Other than that, I found the film to be enjoyable; but it was not on par with what we've been getting out of the MCU in comparison. DC has a lot of work to do; because Justice League is looking like the Single 'A' affiliate of the Major League Avengers team. This movie is at least a step in the right direction for DC, but they need they need to stop with this "love conquers evil" nonsense, when it was actually Wonder Woman's powers derived from her godly genes.… Expand

Only to be almost instantly faced with jarring CGI moment after jarring CGI moment. At least try to make your ocean scenes look like they were filmed in the ocean if your film budget exceeds an amount of money I will never personally see. I know the Percy Jackson films display far better choreography and without a doubt a deeper development of characters than a flip flopping of moral compass wherever the wind of the plot may blow. I can only bare to give this film a 4/10.… Expand

Well DC, that's much better.

I'm actually quite surprised by this, but glad at the same time. DC didn't have such a great start with it's previous installments and while I'm still anxious about the next upcoming films, I can safely say thatWell DC, that's much better.

I'm actually quite surprised by this, but glad at the same time. DC didn't have such a great start with it's previous installments and while I'm still anxious about the next upcoming films, I can safely say that "Wonder Woman" is the first decent film in the DC Universe.

The two stand outs of the film are Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. Both the chemistry and the performances were all solid. You love seeing them together and hate to see something bad come between them, which always ends tragically. I wasn't a huge fan of Gal Gadot performance and character in "Batman V Superman", as it didn't fit in the already crowed movie and isn't in the best hands. Here it's better in terms of direction.

"Wonder Woman" is a massive improvement and am very happy DC listened. The action scenes were exciting and well made. It's colorful and has a great message for empowerment for both women & men. Without the painfully obvious re-shoots and no Kanye West songs or Queen Bohemian Rhapsody thrown in for "improvements". The movie is at least watchable and enjoyable. And get this, it's got a sense of humor, even when some of it didn't hit the mark.

While I liked the movie overall, however I didn't quite love it like everyone else. My issues are with the first act being sluggish and filled with cliche digoule. Soon as Chris Pine shows up is when it picked up for me, as you get some great scenes between Steve and Diana.

The film had a great message about war and how everyone is a mix of good and bad; which sadly gets ruined in the third act and turns into "Man of Steel" climax all over again. Pretty disappointing. And I didn't like Wonder Woman theme (which is rock music) playing while the story is set in WW1. It just felt odd and out of place hearing rock music during that type of era, but that's my opinion.

I don't know who does the visual effects for the DC movies, because it doesn't look that good and very unfinished. I mean, some of it looked decent when it's not against real life environment, although that can't be said for the rest.

The movie also suffers from the same problem with Marvel and that's the villains. Talk about cartoonist at it's worse and just stereotypical. Just be glad it isn't as bad as enchantress.

Overall rating: Wow, it may look like I named off more problems than positives. Keep in mind I really did like the movie, these are just things that bugged me and could have done better. The rest I thought was good and I'm interested in where things are going in the future for these movies.

Wonder Woman, though not a perfect movie in many ways, is still better than the preceding DCEU movies. The movie was fun in some scenes, boring and repetitive in others, and some were average and progressed the plot like it had to.

Acting:Wonder Woman, though not a perfect movie in many ways, is still better than the preceding DCEU movies. The movie was fun in some scenes, boring and repetitive in others, and some were average and progressed the plot like it had to.

Acting: Gal Gadot is a great fit for Wonder Woman, and has a good range of emotions. Chris Pine was also good and pretty charming throughout. Chris Pine and Gal Gadot had great chemistry together, and exchanged nice, charming dialogue and sometimes even meaningful conversations about mankind and war. Every other actor and actress do what they have to, but aren't anything special.

Characters: The only people with the most characters throughout are Gadot and Pine. They spent good time developing a bond between them, and didn't force a love connection, which I thought worked out perfectly fine. However, many other characters fall flat. I didn't care for Diana's mother or her sister that much, and even got them confused constantly. They were just characters that existed to move the plot forward and weren't necessarily good or bad. Just, characters that exist. The three guys that tag along with Gadot and Pine have virtually no characters, and I don't even recall any of them actually killing anyone. They are one of the most extreme examples of supporting characters I have ever seen. They exchange some lines and have a hint of a backstory here and there, and can be a tad charming at times, but really only existed so the plot could utilize them to benefit Wonder Woman or Chris Pine. The villains are okay and have their motives, but in the end, are still superhero villains, who usually end up being forgettable or nothing special. In this case, they are forgettable, as I will probably forget the villains by the end of this year.

Plot: Of the three acts in the movie (Diana growing up and leaving the island with Pine and strolling through London, the crew fighting their way through the war to get to the Germans, and the final fight scenes and conclusion), the second act was the best. The first act didn't necessarily do anything wrong; they introduced Diana, had the basic exposition scene, had the aunt/trainer get shot and try to tell Diana something before she dramatically dies, and she leaves the island. It did everything it had to do, and wasn't necessarily boring, but just struck me as pretty basic storytelling. The third act was probably the worst for me. The twist was introduced and was okay, but then the final fight between Wonder Woman and Ares was boring and repetitive and done badly. They punch back and forth and fly through the air and throw big objects at each other, kind of like Man of Steel. It goes on for what seems like forever, and though the effects are good, feels boring and like it doesn't progress. Just the same thing over and over. The second act was the best for me because it had the best action. There were some good fight scenes that would've made the movie much better if there were more of them. It also introduced a good look at war and mankind. Since this is Diana's first time experiencing war, it is a fresh take on the horrors of warfare from the perspective of someone who is seeing it for the first time. She says stuff like "why are they fighting?" or "this is horrible." It is a good reminder that war is hell and it adds to the sinister tone of war because it is from the perspective of someone who is just now seeing it. Imagine you lived in peace for your whole life, learning to fight but never actually having to use it. Then, you jump into a world where men are shooting each other's heads off, you would most likely be disgusted or confused about why they do it. The movie did a good job of putting us behind Diana's eyes and feeling what she feels when she sees a whole village of innocents get wiped out. This made the second act the best part of the whole movie, and where most of the 5 rating comes from.

Script: The script is nothing special except for the scenes where Diana and Pine share deep insights and dialogue about the behaviors of man. It is charming at times, but otherwise is nothing special.

Zack Snyder stuff: Though Snyder only produced the movie, he still slapped his signatures all over it. The signature dark, gritty, dirty color scheme is very apparent in this movie. Dark tones and imagery can, of course, be used very well. I always felt Snyder overuses this dark tone that doesn't always work with some superhero movies. However I did like the choice of making the island very bright and happy, and then, when entering the cruel world of war, is plunged into a darker color palette. Although it still feels over-the-top at times.

Wonder Woman is an okay superhero movie with good leading characters, an otherwise forgettable cast, good action scenes, but fails to entertain through most of the movie. It was a bit predictable, but it mainly gets a low rating because of the whole last act, which I thought was done very poorly.… Expand

Seriously they sound like cheap vampires. Events unfolded like a bad anime cartoon. The guy they cast as Aries the God of War is the gangly british guy with bad teeth in Fargo. Strange pick. The fawning over the heroine beauty get tiring after awhile. The hat tips to every ethnic and gender injustice in US history was preachy and tired. Seemed really half baked.… Expand

I was already starting to lose my patience with the DC Universe films and their continuous lack of quality and fun, especially when compared to Marvel, and therefore had no intention or desire to check this film out. However, the unexpected high acclaim and positive reviews the film started receiving was what ultimately swayed me to give this film a chance. Unfortunately, I'd have to disagree with the majority and say that this film is just like the rest of the DC films, lacking in quality and fun. Sure it didn't feel quite as brooding and serious as most of the others, but that doesn't change the fact that the story felt very formulaic and "been there, done that" from other superhero films, and Gal Gadot (whom I considered to be quite miscast for the role to begin with when she made her debut in the also abysmal Batman v. Superman last year) delivered what I felt to be an unimpressive and wooden performance. Add on top of that some really ridiculous-looking CGI (especially in the film's final battle with the villain), as well as plenty of explosions to go around, and there you have it. Overall, this movie has further assured me that I likely won't be bothering to check out the Justice League film when it comes out later this year, let alone any other DC films if I can help it. They're all the same to me and just no fun.… Expand

Loved Gal Gadot in this. Pacing was kinda meh. Still felt like a DCEU movie. And, the constant use of slow mo was totally unnecessary. Some slow mo is cool. Being a Wonder Woman fan, I was very disappointed. Right at the beginning they invented a whole new origin story for this film and that's ok, I'm use to alt universes so don't expect me to be snobbish nostalgic, but it was weird that Zeus wasBeing a Wonder Woman fan, I was very disappointed. The film in general had too many downfalls. The use of typical tropes for characters without developing them made them seem static and boring. I didn't like that Wonder Woman came off as just a super feminist with a static view of the world, 'war is bad.' The worst part was the film had no unique identity of it's own, it tried to be a mix of typical world war movies and superhero flicks like Captain America, but it failed in both aspects. Lastly the accents were a turn off since they were so thick, I can't imagine someone who speaks over 100 languages to have such a thick accent.… Expand

“Wonder Woman” was directed by Patti Jenkins and stars Israeli actress and model, Gal Gadot, Robin Wright and Chris Pine in this DC adventure film written by Jason Fuchs and about 4 or 5 other writers. The special effects are impressive as is the acting of Ms. Gadot but that, unfortunately, is where the accolades end. The film is about 2 and ½ hours in running time (at least one hour longer than it should have been) which caused me to fall asleep at least once during its exhibition. To make matters worse, the plot is complicated, concocted and confusing, three “c’s which aren’t good for any film to have in its description. I give it a 6 rating and note that the only “wonder” regarding the film is why so many respected critics liked it as much as they did.… Expand

Calling this the best film released as part of the DC Extended Universe thus far is a rather easy task, but does Wonder Woman rise to the level of being a good film? Well, probably not. It is not bad (BVS) or one of the worst things thatCalling this the best film released as part of the DC Extended Universe thus far is a rather easy task, but does Wonder Woman rise to the level of being a good film? Well, probably not. It is not bad (BVS) or one of the worst things that could ever be imagined (Suicide Squad), but Wonder Woman is still not some kind of a good movie. It is close though and decidedly "above average" as Chris Pine's Steve Trevor so neatly offers to describe both his looks and the film's quality. So what is the god killer in Patty Jenkins' first foray into the world of Wonder Woman? After firing and missing on its two most recent efforts, the DCEU lightened things up, but avoided the true cause of death: cliches. There is hardly anything original about the villain or other plot happenings and the film is crushed under this predictable weight. It is a beautiful looking film nonetheless, but it remains a rather pale and typical superhero film blended with a female empowerment picture.

It is in the latter that the film is perhaps the most muddled. As Diana/Wonder Woman's (Gal Gadot) encounters with the outside world begin in a "fish out of water" type fashion (featuring the requisite jokes to highlight how out of touch she is), she is treated very woman-like. Steve tries to save her from any danger and brings her to buy clothes. It is eerily reminiscent of Mila Kunis in Jupiter Ascending who, though she is known as the one who can save the world, spends 60% of the film cleaning toilets. Here, Diana is spared the scrubbing of an inner bowl, but is nonetheless forced into a womanly hole of having to wear flashy dresses and to act like a woman. Naturally, this all comes after Steve has seen her kick ass while in the Amazonian world. No matter, eventually the men will come around, correct? Wrong. Instead, every man that surrounds her consistently tries to hold her back, hold her hand and lead her around, or shield her with their bodies. With comments about how attractive she is and jokes about how attractive she and her friends are, the film further makes one wonder if this is really a female empowerment picture. Yes, women kick ass in Wonder Woman, but they are never treated as the equals of men. Even the dialogue uttered by Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen) about the world describes it as the "world of men". The line about how men are useless besides procreation is a bit too much in the opposite direction (more about emasculation of men than it is empowerment of women). All in all, the film gives her room to take people down, but she is never given credit for her actions in a way that does not sound like "pretty good for a woman". Compared to Gamora or Black Widow, Wonder Woman is never able to not be a woman. Instead, every line and action by those around her serves as a reminder that, yes, she is a woman.

If the dialogue did not remind you, perhaps the camera work will. As Laura Mulvey so perfectly defined, this film is very much the product of internalized sexism. With camera work that focuses on Gal Gadot's ass and with the camera working its way up from the bottom to allow the scopophilic audience to soak in every inch of our superhero. For a film with marketing so focused on showing her to be a beacon of female strength, it seems rather fine with having her represent to-be-lookedatness and the result of the male gaze by the camera and the audience. Yes, the film tosses in Chris Pine naked once, but for a film about a woman and for women, it seemed more interested in objectifying Diana than Steve. In a similar vein, the scantily clad costume design is both problematic and not. For one, it is too much and only allows the camera to soak in more skin. On the other, Steve tries to get her to change because she is so scantily clad, which is equally problematic. If she is comfortable, why change? She should be wearing more clothes because, if it is armor, why must she wear a skimpy skirt and not full body armor like male superheroes and warriors? But, forcing her to change to be appropriate is like the film recognizing it is absurd, but also taking away her own autonomy when it comes to deciding what she can and cannot wear, giving control of that to her male love interest.

The film's stereotypical approach to women may be crushingly disappointing based upon expectations, but what is perhaps worse is how awful the villain winds up being. Turns of Ares is just a pissed of British guy who wants to destroy the world like every other villain in a superhero movie. Given no development beyond a desire to kill the world and having killed Zeus and other gods to follow through on this, the chief villain here is rather dull and, worse, is killed by the power of love. Gaining superpowers from grief and love in a scene that plays out like the "Save Martha" one from Batman v Superman, Diana is finally able to overcome him by, as she later describes herself, by discovering that love conquers all.… Expand

Great cast with good charaters. No one seems out of place.

Gal Gadot - Wonderwoman 7/10
Have to talk about the main charater for herself. Gal is so stunning she captivates you in every scene. The fights are well performed and she does a great job. Her presence is felt.
As we all know Gal is not an American and english is not her first language. All though her english is fine and you can easily understand her, the pronunciation can at times make the dialog feel scripted and not a natural progression of a conversation. This is something I think she will get better at overtime but as far as grading her performance i believe it is the only thing draging down the grade somewhat because she performed everything else beautifully. Cinematic - 8/10

Beautiful shot with high depth. Great colorization to bring in the right mood and the action scenes is filmed at a pace where the action is seen and now flown by in an instance.

Overall: 6 / 10

Stunning actress, good cast, beautiful cinematics but somewhat inadequate story line drags the grade down. The movie is enjoyable and worth watching.… Expand

It would have been better if the movie ended with Wonder Woman killing that evil German dude, and Chris Pine's character's speech to her after that. Maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the comic, but what really happens after Ares is killed? There's still the Pacific theater fighting. Is there another Ares that Wonder woman needs to kill?… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For large parts of this film, Wonder Woman is truly a 'beautiful' film made of love and care like its titular character. But sadly like most of its DCEU counterparts, Wonder Woman quickly degenerates into a rudderless shlock filled with CGI that looks like it came straight out of menstruation, film logic as irrational as a girl on her period and an abortion of a plot. Indeed, for much of the hype surrounding this film, sadly, Wonder Woman is not as 'wonderful' as one might think to have watched. Pros of the film:
-Acting is superb on most part of the film (apart from the over the top villains and bizzare accents (or lack of an accent on Chris Pine's part) for most of the cast tries to attempt). This is the first DCEU film I recall for a genuine connection to see. Gal Gadot is superb in this role and the scenes with her and Chris Pine are the standouts of the film.
-That said, the best parts of the film isn't the action nor villains, it is indeed the love that develops between Diana and Trevor which is both incredibly funny and heartwarming. I haven't seen this good chemistry since the last Superman Return film.
-There is real comedy here, unlike the **** SNL skit that was GOTG vol. 2. Characters actually speak logically and make sense in the jokes they make that because Wonder Woman is a naive character and thrust upon our immoral world.
- Some great camera work by the director. - Soundtrack was great. Although it is generic on most part, it actually complimented the scenes really well. - Pacing of the film actually is quite good. There's not really a lot of fat.
-Feminism done right. I know many people will get triggered about the word, but most people really never have studied feminism don't understand what it means. By what I mean feminism is that it isn't some **** of a girl harping how powerful she is or how equal they want, feminism is in fact a critical theory on the social norms we have. Why Wonder Woman is a great feminist film because this film actually asks good question. For example *SPOILERS*, in one scene, she questions why the generals all sit there and not fighting with the soldiers. In another scene, and rather poignant, she and Steve trevour are dancing in the snow and Steve recalls how marriage and life is pretty meaningless and how he doesn't even know if he will get married. For a while, these are the moments what makes Wonder Woman great and stand out as being just another popcorn flick. Now sadly, here are the bad points about this film, and there are many unfortunately. - Once they arrive to the front line, the film literally falls apart. The problem is that we never get a sense why they are there, apart from some dialogue about them either stopping the general-whats-his-name (played by Danny Huston) and Dr poison (but more like doctor dialogue) from signing a peace treaty or I don't know really. There's like a scene where she walks in front of the trench and then saves a village but we never really get a sense why and what etc. It's more like they just jam in these scenes because they literally ran out of ideas.
- Villains are rubbish. Sorry to Danny Huston, but he just bumbles his way in his performance and his presence is unconvincing and cumbersomely put together. Dr Poison is severly wasted as a character because apart from throwing a poison grenade in the scene we have all seen already, she does nothing apart from dialogue. When the 'real' villain comes up, he just appears suddenly so that we can have our 'climatic fight'
**** action. Again, if you like your action to be all in slow motion and where literally its just your heroes shooting faceless soliders - then yeah... Also the final fight is boring, explosions here and there, oh a villain with so many powers... yea just a mess. -Lazy film logic. My mate and I laughed out in one very lazy edited scene *Spoiler*. Basically Wonder woman stabs the general on top of the roof before encountering the other main villain. At this point she doenst have her sword (because she reaches for it). However, instead of showing her grab it, we basically cut to another scene briefly before the following scene shows her having it. It is laughlinly bad because the audience is led to believe the villain just stood there for her to go back up to get it before coming back down in the space of a shot. *Spoilers* Trevor also commits sucide at the end despite various ways he could've not blown the plane he was in carrying bomb ie landed the plane, dump the gas in ocean, jump off with parachute (assuming every fuking plane has parachute) or you know just blow up the plane. -The side characters are comedic relief at best. I love the french dude, but everyone else seems pointless and waste of screen time. You have a sniper character that never fires a single shot, and an american indian for no reason at all.
- CGI is **** There literally a scene early on where you see Robin Whyte character CGI on done by a 12 year old.… Expand

-The movie itself wasn't bad. But when compared with the rampant hype it was pathetic. Honestly it was a very middle of the road Hero flick that would feel comfortable with the likes of Dr. Strange or Spiderman in terms of quality. Which is not a bad thing. That being said the movie had glaring issues that really kept it from shining more.
-1st off the pacing was bad. It seemed like there was a significant amount of filler material. I also disliked Diana's Ultra-naivety. I understand there were some attempts at comedy in it, but it was truly over the top. And hardly deserving of "feminist" praise that has been languished upon this film.

Second was Diana's character in general. Being an avid comic reader and knowing a fair amount about WonderWoman. I was disappointed at how her character was portrayed. She is a battle-lusting warrior in the comics that often needs to reign herself in to conform more to an unfamiliar society. However in the film she is a hippy-dippy love Aphrodite, while this isn't necessarily a bad character. It was irritating to see Diana portrayed as this.

Third, and honestly the biggest film killer for me (and my wife) was the villains. Forgettable would be an understatement. Truly a film such as this lets you see how important a good bad guy can help overall... And as many others have said, this film could have went without the end 1/3rd... You know the part where it all comes together... Yea.

If you really would like to see a great WonderWoman movie I would see the animated 2009 film. While it does not have the big names, it has fleshed out characters.… Expand

I liked the movie, somehow.

The best: Diana. The worst: she is the only interesting character throughout the movie. A movie cannot be run by a single character. The partner Steve, boring. The other characters, fools. It is even insulting to women, in general, that a woman can be a hero only because she is running alone, instead of being the best among the best.

Curiously enough, the best lines of Diana are quotes from Achilles in the Iliad of Homer, specially from Book I. She is as brave as he is. At the front defending her army on the battlefield. That's why I think director Patty Jenkins should have chosen Brad Pitt as the actor who did Steve's character. Brat knew in Troy how to capture Aquilles’s braveness and would have made a more balanced performance as a real counterpart. Besides that Gal Gadot and Brat Pitt would be killing!

The film appears in two parts in terms of the use of technology. In the first part (first hour), it’s fairly basic and rudimentary, it reminds me of the Clash of the Titans (1981) with Greek gods flying in such an improbable, comic way. That's partly why the first hour is boring. It is too long too. I was about to leave. It is as if, for mythology, there was no real technology. This is strange. I also do not like that the director Jenkins does not cut a breast of the Amazons. Taking off a breast so that the armor, the bow, fit them well, showed their commitment to war, not with motherhood or with the yoke of marriage. That’s why Amazons were feared as well as desired by Ancient men. I guess the idea was that it was sexier a Diana with her two breasts. Though Diana's relationship with her aunt and teacher is great; it is the best of the first hour. The second part (second hour) uses the technology excellently, showing very well Diana’s battles, her prowess. In terms of politics, the film is quite flat. The demonized Germans vs the others, angels, of the Great War. The tv series was more layered in this sense.

Diana redeems the movie. I admire her bravery. Her innocence: to really believe in justice for its own sake, and for her ethos of saving mankind despite its undeservedness. This Diana is a combination of the Greek Arete (valor) with the Franciscan and Christian compassion.… Expand

I do not understand all the good reviews of this movie. I thought it was boring, the fight scenes poorly executed and the acting horrible. I get that the woman who played Wonder Woman is beautiful. The film was a solid flick, but no where as good as most of the reviews say it is. Gal Gadot does a great job as does most of the cast. The film just has a terrible 3rd arc with lots of plot holes.

But with the excellent editing of the film. she looks at those three soldiers, three friends who don't have any more ammo and hold each other's hands to be brave until the last second of their lives. And then, Diana loose Steve. But with that loss, she understands the love that gave Steve hope and braveness to do what must be done.
At that moment, She finally understands. She yet can hear what Steve said: "I Love You". And because of that, She has the power to destroy the symbol of hate. This is why I really enjoyed this film. At least at the end to it.… Expand

This movie isn't bad, its just nowhere near as good as people say it is. The movie is mostly fun, but has choppy CGI, a weak villain and amateur directing. The writing is pretty good, but has some big flaws on occasion.

It's a decent film that you can enjoy. Personally, I don't feel it lived up to the hype and it still suffers from the drawbacks of most DC films, but by far this is the best installment in the universe they are trying desperately to build.

It was such a bad ending I had to drop my score. The ending being Ares appearing, right after Diana is told "Humanity isn't manipulated by Ares". They forced a big climatic battle, the ending and moral was so good, but they had to force a big battle.… Expand

I'm a sort of casual fan of superhero films - I'm not really the target audience I suppose and I don't enjoy them all but this was neither the worse, nor the best one I'd seen. I liked some aspects of it and not so much others (I suppose like most films). At first I was really quite keen, as I liked how the young Diana was portrayed growing up, as someone keen to start (warrior) training, to become involved in battles and ultimately helping the outside world to conquer the Germans (its set in WWI).

Surprisingly (or not), there were some reasonably poignant pieces of dialogue present - that impressed me, although perhaps the most memorable examples are in the very last scene. The titular character is of course portrayed as a, at heart, decent woman, wanting to help those who struggle to help themselves, which is, of course, laudable and yet I still feel there's an inherint tackiness to the over sexualised appearance of Wonder Woman. I suppose that inevitable to a certain extent but I felt that one or two such inevitable aspects cheapened or certainly lessened the potential impact of the good things. I'm sure most fans of such superhero films will enjoy this and I can't say its a bad film, it has some good themes and is somewhat thought provoking, plus the action/fight scenes are well filmed and the special effects are, of course, decent, as would be expected. For me, personally, overall I can't quite go so far as to give this a solid 4 star (good) rating but I'd say its a reasonable, ok watch if this is your kind of thing, certainly. If your not sure about it then don't. Oh and also, if you cringe at over the top/stereotyped Scottish characters then, suffice to say, you won't like the one who appears in this film - get ready to cringe!.

This is an alright watch but it is quite long and if your not fully invested in the characters then you may feel a bit distracted, so I'm giving this a 3 star rating and hopefully you can decide for yourself if its worth you seeing it or not.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ich habe mich sehr auf diesen Film gefreut, wurde er doch allerorten als der beste DC-FIlm seit Nolans Batman-Trilogie angepriesen. Auch die Trailer versprachen gut gemachtes Comic-Popcorn-Kino. Leider habe ich mich dann doch ziemlich gelangweilt, denn die guten Sachen wurden irgendwie im Trailer schon verballert und der Rest war ein (gut gemachtes) CGI-Gewitter mit einer lahmen Story, vielen Logikfehlern und einem Endgegner, der peinlicher nicht hätte sein können.

Da gibt es also eine durch einen Nebel geschützte Insel. Aha. Und der mächtige Gott des Krieges rafft es nicht, sie zu finden... und ein Flugzeug und mehrere Boote fahren halt einfach mal rein und hoppla!! Eiiiine Insel mit zwei Bergen... komisch, daß in mehreren Jahrhunderten kein Schiff sich rein verirrt hat.
"Ich zeige Dir den Weg von der Insel." - Paddelpaddel... einfach nur vom Anleger geradeaus.
Wir müssen driiingend zum Parlament, das Buch abgeben!! Oy, gehen wir erstmal shoppen.
Nur ein Bsp.

Dann die dummen Dialoge teilweise, die irgendwie witzig sein sollen. "Bla bla bla, ich mache das, was er mir sagt." "Bei uns nennt man das Sklaverei." - Klar, nur, daß sie sehr gut dafür bezahlt wird, die Definition von Sklaverei ist da ne andere.
Streckenweise ist der film ganz witzig, verkrampft sich aber ständig zwischen erzwungener Komik, infantilen sexuellen Anspielungen und irgendwelchem Geschnulze.

Die Bösewichte kommen massiv zu kurz (und es sind mal wieder die Deutschen. Gääähn.). Ludendorff und seine Chemikerin werden viel zu lasch in Szene gesetzt. Und am Ende (o wer hätte wohl nicht gedacht, daß da doch noch was kommt?) ergießt sich alles im mächtigsten Witz des Films. Ares, der Gott des Krieges, der Endgegner, der Vernichter, der Betrüger etc. pp. ist ein alberner Bürokrat mit häßlichem Schnauzer. Er verwandelt sich dann in einen rasenden und fliegenden Krieger in Metallrüstung - aaaber: Hauptsache, er behält seinen Schnorres!! Dafür kratzt er sich extra ne Aussparung in den Helm, damit man den flatternden Suppensieb auch ja noch sieht.
Das war so dermaßen lächerlich.

Die Effekte waren nett und zahlreich - es ist halt mal wieder ein Film, der für viel Geld vor dem Green Screen entstanden ist. Das war abzusehen und ist auch nicht so schlimm, aber die Story und die Charaktere tragen das ganze zu wenig, sodaß der Film einfach billig wirkt, auch wenn er das nicht ist.

So sind vor allem Gal Gadot und auch Chris Pine recht überzeugend, auch wenn Pine nicht viel zu tun hat. Er is halt da, trägt aber nicht wirklich etwas zum Film bei. Der hätte auch ohne ihn ablaufen können. Aber man braucht eben einen halbwegs unnötigen Love Interest, damit das ganze nicht völlig zum feministischen Einheitsbrei absackt. Also gibt es noch etwas Schnulz. Ansonsten sind die Sidekicks weitgehend blaß.

Hier wurde insgesamt wieder Potenzial verschenkt und ich frage mich, wann man Zack Snyder endlich verbietet, Filme zu machen. Jedenfalls bei DC.

Der Soundtrack ist gut, aber oft zu einseitig, es klingt vieles gleich und das geniale Wonder Woman-Thema kommt auch zu kurz.… Expand
