Truly a cannon breaking film with no continuity, going at break neck speed in an effort to stop you asking why it makes no sense and feels like a cheap video game narrative. JustTruly a cannon breaking film with no continuity, going at break neck speed in an effort to stop you asking why it makes no sense and feels like a cheap video game narrative. No character development or arc no originality or fresh ideas. Just nonsense and makes the og trilogy and anakins story pointless. Turned into a super heroes in space film with no consequence to anything, no impact, no meaning, hacky writing and terrible editing, I wonder how much Disney wrecked this film. Why not though they wrecked the biggest franchise on the planet. Finn could have been interesting same with other new characters but with no arc they were just padding. I guess the only surviving force user is a palpatine who identifies as a Skywalker Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This movie would probably be the worst one if the effects weren't so goddam good. The dialogue feels like they're only talking to move the plot forward.

Pros
- return of ben solo
- the gang is finally all together
- the inclusion of the knights of ren
- sith troopers look cool
- death star ii wreckage scene was interesting and kylo's han solo vision was a nice surprise
- rey and kylo's duel on kijimi was a good use of their force connection
- flashback of Luke and Leia training was cool

Cons
-return of the emperor ruins the satisfying ending of episode 6
- the idea of all the good guys vs all the bad guys is handled poorly
- giving every star destroyer a death star is stupid and doesn't feel like a natural evolution in this universe
- Leia's death feels unearned (not their fault though)
- maz kanata is under used
- lando's inclusion feels like a favor rather than something to drive the plot forward
- chewies fake death was dumb and it was clear that he was on the other troop carrier
- ben solo's death felt unearned and unrequired
- who were the people watching the emperor and rey fight??

This movie felt like a **** prequel movie. Is this what you wanted, last jedi haters?? Are you happy with this **** show??? How does jj abram's cum taste???

The movie is probably not as bad as the rating I am giving it. After all, effects look good, performances are good, and fight scenes are executed well.

The way I see it, those attributes can no longer excuse a drawn-out, directionless, retconning third installment that treats its plot and characters with very little care.

What should’ve been the triumphant conclusion to a trilogy ended up being a “let’s get as much money as we can before this jig is up.”

It is insane to look back on this trilogy and realize that there was no real plan for these films, and it clearly shows.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie was a disappointment. Since Disney added time travel and bringing back characters to life to their version of Star Wars, they could have brought Luke Skywalker and Admiral Gial Ackbar back. It was messed up how Rise Tico and Kelly Marie Tran were treated. This film isn’t canon to Star Wars Legends or George Lucas’s version of Star Wars. Expand

Where to even begin. I thought to myself "they can't possibly have made a movie worse than the last one" - boy was I surprised.

This movie has to be one of the worst movies I've seen in a very long time. I'm easy to please but this movie was so full of plot holes, ridiculously stupid things happening to drive the plot forward and empty characters you don't care about. I paused the movie and felt pained that there was still an hour left. If you are like me, you want to conclude the series. Why not ask your child, nephew/niece, or some other kid to make up a conclusion of the Star Wars franchise. It will be 120 minutes shorter and likely better written than this garbage. Please, it isn't even worth your bored, lazy, self-isolating time.

In terms of storyline, it suffers from a breathless, rushed pace (it’s as if the movie was on Red Bull), random and unnecessary characters (do we really need brand new characters in the final chapter?), occasional lazy writing and lazy plot choices, and a failure to achieve the same emotional weight as the original six films. ROS ultimately reveals the flaws of the sequel trilogy - its inconsistency, its scattered agenda, its bewildering twists and turns that leave you scratching your head. The original six was a much cleaner, much more powerful story - the last three films muddy the waters. However, I appreciate the challenge these three films - flawed and uneven as they are - present to the Star Wars universe. ROS still manages to thrill despite its weaker elements; and while its existence is not necessary, and may feel like overkill, it still provides an entertaining-enough ride for the viewer - offering an at times enjoyably dark venture into the powerful mythology. However tighter we would have wanted this film and trilogy to be plot-wise, tone-wise, character-wise, it makes sense that it creates such a mess. The galaxy is big, the Force is confusing, the players are many, and just like in our own world there are contradictions and complexities. It may not be the Star Wars we know and love, but when you hear that music and see that opening scroll, you still feel like you’re home. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My maybe unpopular Star Wars opinion (contains mild spoilers):

It started out strong. I thought to myself "Okay the critics are wrong I'm going to like this thing." However, all my predictions came true. Everything from TLJ was retconned. But who the hell cares? I hated everything from that movie anyway. Nevertheless, the damage done by Rian Johnson in TLJ was irreparable. In addition, LucasFilm's lack of artistic vision was on full display. There was NEVER a plan for a coherent trilogy.

In comparison, how could Kevin Fiege craft a coherent throughline over 23 MCU films? Yet Kathleen Kennedy couldn't craft a coherent vision in 3?

While the film had competent set-pieces the story was cobbled together. Furthermore, the list of things the Force could do became as long and as incredulous as the powers of the Golden Age Superman. Telekinesis, force lightning, precognition, limited flight, telepathy, astral projection, and now resurrection? Give me a break.

That being said it was s decent recovery from Rian Johnson's hack job. If this were a lesser franchise I could forgive its numerous sins and overuse of both plot device and plot armor. Nevertheless, it was so bad that only a fifth of the people I was in the theater with even clapped at the end.

Here is hoping Bob Iger and the Disney company examine the successes of the MCU and apply those lessons learned to the next series of Star Wars films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes this contains spoilers … but it isn’t spoiling anything because this film has spoilt everything itself already. this film is so ludicrous at points … it just feels dumb.

feminist fantasy … star wars - its Just weird and creepy the way Ray could not have more ultimately scraped out lukes male character from the inside and inhabited his skin like some feminist psycho stalker, literally wanting to subsume everything that was him, she in the end gets his ship, his light sabre, his name, his blessing and twenty times his powers etc and so many plot elements feel like repeats from the first three, but dialled up to 12, space battles going on whilst confronting the emperor again, this film awkwardly inhabits the shadow of the first three films with outright cloned scenes and Rays passing shot at the end of the film is to literally declare herself a Skywalker, when shes a Palpatine (a good plot twist), because I guess she married dead romeo ben - with a kiss as he sacrificed himself (a rare true male archetype moment)? and the film basically tries to slightly cover for of course … Ray & Finn being a mixed race couple romance like 5 minutes later on from Bens death, with zero mourning period? with some weird three way hug on Finns shoulder with Spanish irrelevant pilot man, who all have some white people teary absolution on Finns shoulder? but ouef The ludicrous-ness of the capstone of this 12 part saga action wise, is ridiculous, at one point there is a tribal afro women leading a charge of hairy space zonkeys on an imperial cruiser … I wish I was joking? at one point it felt the avengers cast might turn up at any moment, that imperial cruiser was just one of a CGI clone horizon to horizon wide, grid array of planet destroying imperial cruisers? too many overcooked? as per usual there some awkward race stereotyping with some desert muslim aliens doing the hobby dooby dance and Ray having some throwaway virtue signalling moment with a hijabi alien whose templating for a muslim girl. and of course all the english accented white male people are either evil or dead … pffff. Feels like the lead characters had 30 death defying impractically impossible escapes in a row - overcooked, and Finn apparently is force sensitive to, so as to enable some plot points like … that star destroyer out of hundreds is the one to attack etc. Rays force powers were just ridiculous, in training luke can barely raise a stone, Whilst Ray of course is doing self levitation yoga whilst controlling several asteroid belts of rocks in motion around herself … yawn, and the film just plain steals Romeo and Juliet at the end. The real resolution would be to pull the wizard magic from the universe by both blood lines sacrificing themselves? but Ray survives. Nearly every leader or hero in this film is of course a mary sue female kick ass character pretending to be a man, there are no genuinely actually feminine characters in this film at any point? oh and the films ego is so huge it can’t even resist revision-ing the other films and characters whilst its at it, cut to a quick flashback, Leah was a kick ass Jedi that who also beat Luke in training yada yada yada and nearly all the men involved are just idiot chumps helping out the women or following instructions … yes sir … general feminism, it does not portray the sacrificial history of the male gender in historical war at all, apart from Antifa Bens sacrifice, no no … women always did 50% or more of the war dying according to star wars. Further the whole thing at the end is the usual rose tinted watchtower magazine portrait of multiculturalism in space, soap opera with lib left earnest people charging around murdering thousands and then after, having a kumbya globalist hugging picnic, the level of psychopathic violence implied but not recognised in the films resolution is absurd. there are a few bright bits but overall its way too dialled up to 12, feels like Jerry Bruckheimer does star wars. the film kind of wears everything that is stars wars … out, which is good because I can see no reason for the franchise to return ever, after this it has nowhere to go - its dead dead and done like a very very tired donkey thats been much abused in some tacky resort. The film feels like some kind of over-drama, everything that was a one off novel thing in the original films, is repeated here ad infinitum and turned up to 12? yanking light speed back and forth to evade pursuers happens seemingly in minutes, everyones an expert on hot-wiring every ship in the universe, and ray can force battle hold and explode a star cruiser from the ground? disney and star wars are most definitely american ego sized in nature, there should have been more nuance, they pull all the possible plot levers and character reprisals you can throughout the film to elicit audience response. pfff … ouef … leaves me feeling empty, like some over inflated cake that deflates to nothing. Im so jaded …

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I could rant for hours about all of this movie's failures, but I'll sum it up pretty quick: The only thing TROS accomplishes is ruining everything the previous two movies set up, continues the Trilogy's trend of wasting its golden cast on characters that continue to do nothing, continues the trend of having no world building in any way whatsoever, and gives Kylo, the only character who ever had any sort of depth, a horrible sendoff in the finale (it also does this to Palpatine too, which is a huge insult to an amazing actor).

HOWEVER, there are two scenes that did work (which were far and few inbetween). The first, the finale where Ben finally gets to be a bad*ss with his blue lightsaber, after spending the entire movie as Palpatine's lackey for unexplained reasons. The second, the scene where Kylo (now Ben) gets to speak to a hallucination of his father in Han Solo, which I found extremely poignant.

But those moments don't make up for a wasteful movie that fails to explain its most important plot points and is absolutely terrified of allowing any stakes to exist. Unless you're the most forgiving fan in the world, stay as far away from this mess as you can.

It doesnt stir you. It doesn't fill you with awe. It doesn't even make you care much who wins, which seems odd for Star Wars. It's very female leadership seems like its desperate to correct some sort of SJW injustice which is also odd because Mon Mothma and Leia in the originals are both women. There are many many weird moments of unexplained nonsense and the tried hard new age mystical inner workings everyone seems to have is just garbage. The droids are cute, I feel bad for Chewie but everything else seems like over acted self depth worship. Even lighthearted jokey blow stuff up Poe turns out to be a secret emo. I kind of feel this film took a big stinky one on the original films. They have damaged the possibilities of the whole by closing it with a very narrow and unsatisfying poop. Expand

I was a TLJ fan...it had a few bad parts(Canto Bight, Leia Poppins)...but overall was a good send off the final original 3 cast and a good direction for the future. TRoS turned the entire 40+ year saga into the Palpatine Saga. It was awful. Pacing was awful...too many worthless “fanboy” moments. I’ve been a fan since I saw Star Wars in theaters in 1977. TRoS is an awful send off to a 40+ year saga.

I am so glad that Filoni and Favreau and Watiti and hopefully still Rian Johnson seem to be the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Finally wrote a review for this because I watched it on a Disney Plus trial (I refuse to pay money to see this movie). I was burned by the first two movies and was not going to let it happen again.

It was everything I thought it would be: a soulless mess. Nobody has any motivation for doing anything. Kylo is bad, because reasons. Rey is good, because reasons. The Emperor is back, because reasons. He has a large fleet that wants to do bad things, because reasons. At the end Rey gets to walk away with Han’s Falcon, Luke’s X-wing, Luke’s Lightsaber, Luke’s home, and Luke’s last name, because reasons.

Maybe if J.J. Abrams had an ounce of creativity we would eventually get to those reasons, but we never do. It was just a rehash of all the greatest hits from a trilogy that had already been done perfectly 40 years ago. It’s kind of sad actually, like listening to a tone-deaf teenage band trying to recreate Aerosmith in their garage. Nostalgia sells, but never satisfies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm left with one question after seeing Rise of Skywalker... Did this Trilogy add or progress the Skywalker story in anyway?  I think not. It felt like a reboot of the redemption theme of the Original Trilogy. Been there, done that. What else can you show me? To me, Star Wars is more spiritual than its scientific cousin Star Trek, that underneath it all was a force, ever present, which had a purpose, for those who truly listened.  However, these are those who seek power at the expense of others, a power that is short lived by our own mortality along with the destructive consequences caused by its wake.   In the end, the force, like nature, finds a way to balance these selfish consequences.  The original trilogy felt organic, human, without all the explanations and McGuffins. It's a simple plot about a son who wanted to redeem his father. The force found balance in the end with Anakin's sacrifice. This new trilogy felt more spiritual than the prequels, but told us that Anakin didn't matter, that his redemption and sacrifice didn't resolve anything.   I guess, from a certain point of view, history has a way of repeating itself, that those who forget the lessons of the past are doomed to repeat it.  Maybe that's what the new trilogy was going for thematically speaking?  They tried but failed.

The new trilogy didn't feel like a cohesive story, that is a common opinion I read about and I agree.   The whole "Who is Rey" issue bothered me. They drew this issue out to long. Should we have called it the Rise of Palpatine? Its like they were to focused on recreating the star wars twist, plugging the diversity checklist than telling a emotional story.  Palpatine's return didn't work for me – at least in the way it was presented.   TFA setup Snoke, TLJ killed him off and added nothing to the main plot, ROS pretty much said the original trilogy didn't matter by bringing back Emperor Palpatine suddenly and without explanation or context. The ROS threw to much at you, no room to process, no room for the characters themselves to react and process. It was more tell than show, very prequel-esq of JJ.  However, I do like Rey, Finn and Poe, just didn't like the story these characters played in.  What could have been done better thematically with this new Trilogy while ending the whole Saga with a Bang? Keep the Saga about Anakin Skywalker. Prequels were about Anakin's fall. Original Trilogy about Anakin's redemption. New Trilogy should have been about his/her ressuerection and sacrifice to save his family, the galaxy and the force. Here's my fix: Ben was kidnapped at young age along with destruction of Lukes Academy, Luke dissapears trying to find him, First Order reveals itself led by Snoke. Years later Rey "Awakens" throughout the trilogy and reveals that shes Anakin Skywalker reincarnated by the third film (why shes so powerful).  As for the Big Bad, the Jedi live on through the force, Anakin was so powerful that he was reborn as Rey, the Sith live on by possessing the bodies of the living or Clones. However, we find that Clone possession is short-lived and the Sith needs a living body (Snoke is this Clone). Which leads to the Sith Rule of two. The reason for this Rule is so the Master can take over the body of his apprentice when the apprentice kills him through hatred. The Big Bad, spiritually speaking, is Darth Sidious who has survived for over a millennia. Luke saves Ben by sacrificing himself, killing Snoke, in the second movie. Sidious is reborn in another Snoke body.  In the end, Rey and Ben fight Sidious/Snoke. Rey tricks Sidious to possess her, she sacrifices herself and dissappears into the force, taking this ancient sith spirit with her for good. Fill in the blanks with plot points that lead to the above.  This is one way to make the trilogy more cohesive, respect the old characters and keep it about Anakin Skywalker – that the Evil of Sidious went deeper than you or any of the characters originally thought,  That the force is finally balanced, that Anakin was the chosen one, that the force created Anakin/Rey to balance the imbalance by Darth Sidious. The imbalance, you see, wasn't about Light and Dark, Jedi an Sith, it is more about Life and Death – Sidious tried to beat Death and the expense of others. And it would have set the overall universal, human theme that death is part of life, it's a transformation to the unknown, that life continues on, that it's okay to let go.

My one little overall trilogy treatment above is one example of what Disney should of done in the first place - a roadmap for the entire trilogy.  You know what I liked about the original trilogy?  As a kid it felt more adult, real, human - not a comic book or cartoon.    Guess will have to wait 30 years for a remake.   But the truth is, the people behind this trilogy made millions on nostalgia and a first draft movie trilogy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Rise of Skywalker is the Fall of Disney Star Wars - for Kathleen Kennedy, a disaster in commercial and critical terms - and for fans, a betrayal of George Lucas's 6 films. Why? Anakin Skywalker - the one who brings balance to the Force by going from good to evil (Vader) and back again by killing the Emperor - is betrayed. The Emperor's grand daughter Rey is the saviour - she supplants Anakin as the hero, and the Palpatines become the victors. This undermines everything more that The Last Jedi - it undermines everything Lucas did. All in the name of vapid, Mary Sue feminism. No matter how much money it made, how slick it looked, how much Daisy Ridley's eyes bugged out - this is one disaster of a film. Iger should fire KK and put Jon Favereau and Dave Filoni in charge - as there work on The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars proves, they feel the Force and the Force is with them. Expand

What's truly sad is they had all the resources to make a GREAT 3 movies (think THE LORD OF THE RINGS)..great director, great actors the budget to afford AAA sets and Special Effects (and to THAT point the SPFX: they WERE AMAZING..the "eye candy" was off the charts)..BUT much like the recent disaster that was the final season of Game of Thrones..the thing that DOOMED these 3 movies was strangely enough the simplest and cheapest component of making the movies: IMAGINATION, ORIGINALITY, LOGIC, REASON, COMMON SENSE..all these things are EASY! it's having the money to make these concepts come to life on film that should have been the hard part.

I was stunned when FORCE AWAKENS dropped only to realize it was a reskin of A NEW HOPE

..went to go see LAST JEDI hoping FA was a fluke..NOPE! same MIND NUMBINGLY STUPID STORY TELLING AND PLOT MECHANICS (plus why bring back Han and Luke..if you're only gonna kill them off so quick..yeah OK Leah stuck around..but of the 3 she was least interesting and (sadly) offed herself in real life

..swore I would not go see RISE SKYWALKER in theatre..and did not..but past weekend if honor May4th finally bought it on PPV..and I was right same crappy plot and weak writing

I was a 10 year old kid when I was IN AWE when I first saw Star Destroyer pass overhead in opening shot of A NEW HOPE..not trying to sound like a 50 yr old sci fi dork..but

THANKS DISNEY! YOU RUINED STAR WARS FOR ME!

..and much like Game of Thrones..that so desperately wants me to get excited about the NEXT GoT prequel/sequel?

The latest one sees numerous light sabre battles that are simply meaningless and monotonous. I just cant help but feel that the writers have done a really poor job of building up a climax over the course of 3 fulms. Compared to this, the prequel trilogy is a work of art.

Let's keep this simple...

JJ attempted to patch all the plot holes left by Rian Johnson by rushing a carbon copy of Return of the Jedi with enhanced effects and failed.

KK attempted to appease blue checkmarks wth forced diversity, 3rd wave feminism, and garbage politics... She has failed to learn that they can never be satisfied and will hopefully lose her job soon.

This movie attempts to lure in loyal star wars fans with abundant fan service so the little mouse can count his enormous amount of revenue. (Huh huh) *mickey mouse laugh*

The cinematography and soundtrack are the highlights and are my justification for 2/10. It should really be 1/10 because the soundtrack has been the same since A New Hope, but I also give JJ credit for even having the guts to attempt following up Rian Johnson's abortion.

Rey is a God and shall not be defeated, she is the best, nothing comes close, she knows everything, wins everything, knows all the tricks and abilities without training, she is a real HERo and in no way a Mary Sue, and you're a misogynist if you disagree with this sentiment.

- Unoriginal plot
- Undoes the original trilogy
- Terrible acting across the board
- Rushed production
- Pacing is all over the place
- Awful characters
- Abused fan service
- Pandering and politics
- Incompetent writing across the trilogy
- Murdered a once great franchise
- Literally no explanation for anything that transpired in this film... oooo mystery box JJ at it again.

Overall, The Force is Female, Rey is Space Jesus, and I give this 2 porgs on a stick out of 10.

P.S. Fire KK

Sincerely,

The entire Star Wars fan base.

Star Wars:Right off the bat, this is a better film than The Last Jedi. However, this isn't saying much since that movie was a complete pile of garbage from a film and story telling perspective, as well as being part of the Star Wars lore. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still a bad movie that barely borders on being passable.

For being the ending to this incredibly schizophrenic trilogy, it does very little to answer or resolve much, and as many others have stated, this feels like two films Frankensteined into one movie. No doubt this was to try and fix many of the issues that The Last Jedi created, however the repairs to the lore, story, and characters were not only insufficient for the most part, but really too late to do any real good. You will still wonder why the hell Rey is so gifted and powerful, you still will wonder how Palpatine came back from Return of the Jedi, and you still won't know who the Resistance is or the First Order by the end of this film. These unanswered questions, and many more, just add to the confusion of a movie that jumps around so much in terms of editing and story that you'd be forgiven for not knowing what's going on a times.

Visually the Rise of Skywalker is a pretty film, with a lot of dramatic, epic shots. The lightsaber battles are decent, the CGI and special effects look good for the most part, and there was a great deal of care and attention given to props and set pieces throughout. It is these Oooos and Ahhhs that will keep many audience member's distracted from the films many shortcomings, but they are worth praising for the most part. In the audio department John Williams score is among his most unremarkable to date, however it still is decent enough and compliments the story and action on the screen.

As a casual movie goer, you will probably think The Rise of Skywalker is at worst a fairly boring, somewhat confusing film, especially if you've been keeping up with Disney's Trilogy. As a diehard Star Wars fan though, you will likely dislike this movie to some degree given how badly it fails at making sense of anything this trilogy has set up. Its claim to be the end of the "Skywalker Saga" makes this all the more confusing as watching the Return of the Jedi seems to have been the true end to the saga, while The Rise of Skywalker just feels superfluous and tacked on for the sake of making money and bating people's nostalgia for the original trilogy. The Rise of Skywalker is a bad movie, and an even worse Star Wars movie. However, it does pass as lowbrow entertainment and something casual viewers might enjoy for being the big holiday blockbuster. Just don't expect this film to give a satisfying conclusion to Disney's sequel trilogy, and especially not to the "Skywalker Saga" which ended in 1983.

Overly rushed, and wrapping up a story that never really got going unfortunately, it results in one cheesy final act comparable to Jurassic Park III. The movie isn't a joke, but it thinks it is. I'll give it credit for some visual sequences that dispel cinematic wonder and a tone that J.J. Abrams brings which reignites a life in this trilogy, but everything from the characters to the plot just felt out of sorts. Not a good movie, and perhaps makes more sins than it thinks it's correcting. Poor writing in this one. Expand

And the pain of finally realizing that Disney actually had no plan for this trilogy - that they actually winged it... it made me concerned about the times we live in. I won't even walk to the corner store without considering a route to get there and what to bring. It seems they just tossed the ball up in the air on this one. (Swears hysterically in Japanese)

Well, everything, it was clearly the last straw, it did not cause such a burning sensation as episode 8, but it causes a feeling of shame, the level of which is not inferior to burning from episode 8.
The plot, as it were, is, but it's just an ice hole in the fishless.
Everyone can wave their hands at the characters, although I personally did it on the 8th episode. On the screen, there is such a bacchanalia of absurdity and idiocy that from all this you start to giggle, and then more and more, as if your dentist got the balloons and gave Nitric Oxide. And I was not the only one there, in the hall some were also in shock.
With the technical part this time, too, everything is not all right, “Avengers: Final” this year is a clear leader and all the forces were cast on them.
Regarding the location, everything is rotten again, and again this F***** desert ...
John Williams made his most boring and sterile soundtrack, apart from the film he does not go at all.
Well, this is a ban. Oh ... That is 5/10 (146).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A late-teens fan of the 1977 original, I was tired by this episode (I'm obviously getting old). Tired by the exhausting "action without relief"; tired of the mind-dialogue between Rey and Ren; and tired by the habit of simply reversing and reanimating to suit the plot (though less bothered by the reappearance of Leia than some reviewers).

I won't deny that some of the spectacle was impressive, and if someone tries to reanimate Palpatine in any future film, they'll have some explaining to do, so comprehensive was his demise. What made it worth a 6 was the overall rounding up of the story and the very human ending (instead of the customary militarised ceremony). All that love and happiness on display made for a warm conclusion to a hardware-heavy epic.

However, the latest installment, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," falls far short of expectations and fails to capture the magic of the previous films.

The film's plot is convoluted and disjointed, with unnecessary subplots that add little to the overall story. The pacing is uneven, with action sequences that feel rushed and dialogue scenes that drag on for far too long. The film tries to cram in too many characters and storylines, leaving many of them underdeveloped and ultimately unsatisfying.

Moreover, the film's attempts at fan service are heavy-handed and feel forced, with callbacks to previous films that feel out of place and unnecessary. The film also fails to deliver on its promise of a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga, with a resolution that feels rushed and unsatisfying.

Additionally, the performances of the cast, including franchise veterans like Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver, feel wooden and uninspired, with little chemistry between characters. Even the iconic score by composer John Williams fails to capture the excitement and wonder of the previous films.

Overall, "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" is a disappointing conclusion to a beloved franchise, failing to deliver on its promise of a satisfying conclusion and feeling like a cheap imitation of the previous films. Fans of the series are better off revisiting the original trilogy than wasting their time with this lackluster installment.

This movie barely succeeds because of Rey and Kylo/Ben. Their story has always been the best parts of the sequel trilogy. The Emperor is brought in for some unknown stupid reason and it never makes any sense but I had fun in the moment.

It really is not the end this saga deserves. It's visually beautiful, but hollow and messy. This film should have deserved 2 more films or two more years to be well done.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It was very enjoyable but just doesn't live up to the hype. Rey's character just wasn't very interesting and I thought she was really boring at times. Hated how they would "kill" off characters just to bring them back, made the real deaths in the film lose some of there touch, because you don't know what to believe. The lightsaber fights were not very good as they just looked incredibly slow, and ironically the fights ended really quickly. However, the visuals were amazing and the acting was rather nice. I enjoyed kylo ren in this film as he was a very intimidating villian (for the first half of the film). C3PO was amazing and carried the first half of the film in my opinion.

Overall I thought it was a great film for new starwars fans however not to the old fans.(although some parts and throwback were enjoyable for the old fans).

:) This was just my opinion however it might change overtime.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The final chapter of the Skywalker saga is simply rushed and unoriginal. The movie does not give you any time to process what’s happening scene to scene and there is a severe lack of character development within the movie as well. None of the characters are used properly and Rey’s origin story feels like a cop out and to be honest, you could probably watch this movie without TLJ entirely because there is barely any continuity. It’s a shame we have to end the saga this way and I think JJ played it way too safe and that was his downfall. From start to finish TROS is a complete mess and I wish I would have gone to see Cats instead, because then I wouldn’t have to deal with the surge of negative emotions that overcame me from the moment the credits started to roll. A horny cat story sounds much better than that. Expand

There is literally no reason this movie or trilogy exists, but we know why it does: To make money and to please dumb fans who get impressed by the most trivial things. Woah! Palpatine is back! It was very cool that he survived somehow only to be defeated very easily. Definitely cool to watch after the perfect ending that was Return of the Jedi! Like I said, there is NO REASON this movie exists. It is just an much inferior version of the original trilogy's ending. These Disney films can't stand on their own two feet without the original trilogy. I have no attachment to any of the new characters, their character arcs were horrible, this story is horrible. The most insulting thing is that Anakin didn't play a major role. J.J. Abrams said he brought back Palpatine because it wouldn't make sense to not have him in a 9 chapter story, but in that case why didn't you include the MAIN HERO of the prequels who is also the MAIN VILLAIN of the original trilogy? It would have been a powerful moment to have Anakin, who Kylo idolizes, redeem his grandson. Instead we get Han who... appears? Somehow? As a force ghost... I guess? I don't even know. It makes no sense and Anakin would have made much more sense. There's also no reason Kylo Ren should give a **** about Han Solo other than him being his father, it seemed like they have barely any attachment to eachother at all. This movie and this trilogy disrespected Star Wars, and I am disgusted. The main reason this film is bad is due to The Last Jedi not leaving any room for anything else to happen, that movie took steps back so they were forced to dig deep and bring back Palpatine. There is so much **** that is confusing... Palpatine made Snoke? He had clones of Snoke? Why didn't he use multiple Snokes? Does Snoke have a mind of his own? It's not even worth understanding so I won't even try. This trilogy is such a joke, there was no direction and clashing directors. It was a mistake to have JJ direct the last film, it's also a mistake to give the director ALL creative control. This plot in this movie is on par with a sixth graders' terrible, terrible fan fiction. Palpatine should have been easily able to defeat Rey, did they forget he is one of the best lightsaber wielders? Why didn't he push Rey down the pit where he pushed Kylo? Why is Palpatine a one-trick-pony who can only use lightning and didn't even stop using it against Rey when CLEARLY he was dying. So **** stupid. The reason he kept doing it against Mace Windu in the prequels is because he wanted Anakin to help him, but even then he didn't have a lightsaber. Also, why the hell does Palpatine DISINTEGRATE from force lightning just because Rey has two lightsabers? Why does Rey go to a planet the Skywalkers hated and bury Luke and Anakin's lightsabers with a droid that isn't even hers? Why does she call herself Rey Skywalker? Imagine if instead it was: "Your name's Rey? Where are you from? Oh, you're alone and don't have a people? We'll call you... Rey Solo" (just making fun at Solo). This is the least satisfying conclusion to a nine part film saga. Return of the Jedi's ending was perfect, the new trilogy has NO VISION. A small nitpick but this film also has the worst soundtrack out of any Star Wars movie, with very little variety as they use the same like 5 themes. If force ghosts can interact with the world, why don't they fight Palpatine? They can cast lightning and lift X-Wings, they're already dead so why the **** don't they fight Palpatine lmao. I was 100% rooting for Palpatine, and I can't imagine why you wouldn't. He is a much better character than the new protagonists, yet Palpatine is a joke in this movie and his plan makes 0 sense. He was for sure an asspull, it's insulting that he survives after Episode 6. The whole point of the first six movies was Darth Vader's redemption. This movie is just a ****ty version of that, with Kylo Ren's redemption after a very forced kiss with Rey. He just disappears lmao. It was a terrible decision to have the SEVENTH MOVIE in a 9 part story be a remake of part 4, while the ninth movie is a remake of the sixth part. We already saw all this **** in Episode 6 but it was actually meaningful, now we have Rey representing all the Jedi that have ever existed... why the hell. That was the whole point of Luke, and he was supposed to rebuild/revive the Jedi, and represent the Last Jedi. Even though they made a movie called "The Last Jedi"-- you realize he was the Last Jedi in Episode 6??? They were so afraid of the prequel backlash they just remade the same **** story. Episode 8 was so afraid of backlash (albeit it was a small amount) they tried desperately to subvert expectations. After Episode 8 backlash they played it safe like TFA again, and it leads to the least satisfying ending of all time. It would have been neat to have the Jedi back, even if it was just a small number like 15 Jedi. Running out of characters. TLDR; this movie is awful. Expand

There were hardly any serious moments or reveals that amounted to anything worthwhile. There were definitely some funny moments but with the amount of plot holes and little background explanation to how most of the characters were "developed", this movie can only be seen as a comedy in my eyes, which is sad considering what Star Wars actually is. A very average movie amongst the many other movies that came out this year. Expand

As a stand alone movie it's not bad. But as a SW main movie. Well, it's the last nail this coffin needed.

Hope the fan who are praising this movie are also happy that the EU died for this to happen.

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammill , Alec Guiness and James Earl Jones as Darth Vader (the main 5, as other actors at this time also helped give an authentic feel to this franchise) are such a tremendous force (pun intended) together, that the magic they create on film is nothing like what we get today... That alone has an appeal that carried 4, 5 and 6 to great heights. And its not cause their acting was the greatest in movie world, yet the chemistry between them is so electric and on point , this helps glue such an awe inspiring recipe for great viewing and also the fact the movie which they helped create was many years ahead of time. Too many imo take this for granted and carry such a massive weight of expectation that they're setting themselves up for dissatisfaction way b4 the new movies are even made. Such a massive job to take on these new films. I loved Rise of Skywalker applauding JJ Abrams a job well done to the max as this was a very very hard job to take on.
Even though i clearly wasn't consciously self aware enough at the age of 2 seeing A new hope, this was the age i was when seeing the 1st Star Wars film. It's been such a presence in my life (as for many, clearly) its great to see the Skywalker saga come to a close with now a lot of excitement to see where the franchise goes next. Thank you so much George Lucas for giving us this amazing and truly inspiring gift.

However, the movie uses a lot of subversion that doesnt work since everything that happens in this movie is extremely predictable. After seeing one scene you can nine out of ten times guess what happens in the next scene just from the establishing shot, which removes any suspense.

Personaly found it to flat and superficial due to a poorly argumented dialogue which leaves many questions
Also, have some new characters been badly introduced to the saga.
