The Rise of Skywalker is filled with plot holes and inconsistencies. It honestly just defecates all over what the Star Wars universe has built up since A New Hope was released. This is a travesty beyond the likes of Game of Thrones season 8, and will go down in history as the worst film in the franchise (next to The Last Jedi). Expand

An illogical movie with terrible writing that contains tons of plotholes. It isn't just terrible on its on merits, but it also ruins the movies that came before which cheapens the whole Star Wars Universe as a result.

I can only hope this helps to finish off Star Wars, people really need to stop giving their money to the people who make such awful things upon this earth. The world has enough ugliness in it already, stop investing fortunes into making it worse.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An embarrassment and insulting to the craft of cinema and the franchise started by George lucas. Nonsense, drivel, appalling story, and clear evidence of how bad JJ Abrahams is as a movie maker, it goes to show you fail upwards in hollywood once your in the club. I just hope for the sake of George Lucas’s saga that this Disney trilogy gets retconned from existence. If you want to learn how to ruin a franchise I suggest watching the Disney Star Wars trilogy, that’s its only legacy it leaves. Expand

This movie devaluates everything. The previous episode, the sacrifices from the original trilogy, the time you spent watching it. The ultimate proof that Disney had no idea what they were doing when they sterted to make new trilogy.

this movie is by far the worst one seen so far, not only are powers taken out of nowhere and they could have served other protagonists to avoid deaths like the Qui-Gon Jinn, being able to simply obi wan heal him with the crazy healing abilitythis movie is by far the worst one seen so far, not only are powers taken out of nowhere and they could have served other protagonists to avoid deaths like the Qui-Gon Jinn, being able to simply obi wan heal him with the crazy healing ability they gave him to king and that is another negative point the crazy powers that king develops in this movie do not make sense like they have never had in this series of movies but here still more he is being able to learn 1 skill of a high rank sith as the rays of the force 2 new ones that have never been seen in the saga as being able to teleport sabers and heal people convenience right? that is what abounds in this movie, as palpatine is still alive they do not explain it to you he is simply alive for the convenience of the script and this also destroys everything that luke achieved in addition to taking away all the weight that the redemption of darth vader / Anakin Skywalker had It also creates stupid things like that the star destroyers can only have one command antenna per ship. You are telling me that they can make hundreds of ships that can destroy planets and that you can also make a command antenna to control all ships. and you can make a miniature version of this to place it in a star destroyer but you can't do the same with all the other ships that the hell is this, another hole would be that the millennial falcon uses its space jump 3 times in a row and nothing happens to it convenience gentlemen and another hole would be that you can dig on top of a destroyer and nothing happens to them and as if all this were not enough they can destroy Go ships to bloody arrows, and besides this is not all, they also make jumps that characters reach their destination without any explanation, such as Kailo Ren who arrives at the palpatin lair when before he was standing in the middle of nowhere and the most unforgivable of all. They clickbait with the title because in this they tell you that it will be the promotion of the Skywalkers when that never happens because all the Skywalkers die, where is the **** promotion of the Skywalkers if they all end up dead? that is all that in short the film seemed to me a trash can that not only creates without plot senses (as palpatine from one moment to another pass from wanting to kill the king to want it alive), uses the plot conveniences in his favor (making For example, the millennial falcon does not crash after making 3 space jumps), it puts a very feminine character just for being feminine (king learning 3 rotissimo skills having trained little and nothing) but also destroys everything that the word Skywalker means the score of 0 is earned Expand

The pacing is simply disastrous,JJ did not have many options after Rian Johnson left him with the train wreck that is TLJ, but this is by far my least favourite Star Wars movie and the first one I did not see more than once in the cinema. The pacing is simply disastrous, the "fetch quest" plot is miserable to behold and Palpatine returning (why?) completely ruins Vader's redemption in ROTJ.

This was a trilogy of content packed into a single movie and, whilst I have my issues with TLJ, it just felt cheap for JJ to try and undo everything that happened in the previous movie.

The so-called "Skywalker Saga" does not go out with a bang, but a whimper.

Unfortunately, the result was half the movie had zero pacing - it felt like scenes were being crammed in just for the sake of saying they happened, and scenes stopped instead of ended, which is to say it never felt like the end of a scene was a conclusion to any meaningful dialogue or emotion. It felt like I was watching the first half on fast forward, as there were never any pauses or drama, and there was zero nuance to scenes and interactions. There was almost no character development whatsoever - by the end I found myself not caring for a single character, old or new, and it didnt feel like anyone had meaningful relationships, rather, it felt like we were being TOLD characters liked or disliked each other, and not shown. There were also dozens of characters introduced who could have had potentially cool or unique influences on the plot, but then were thrown away almost immediately, either being killed in a fight, or just never appearing again. The second half of the movie was alright, and the effects were very cool, but it still felt incredibly disappointing as the finale to a trilogy, especially a Star Wars trilogy. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a lifelong hardcore Star Wars fan, I can honestly say that this film is a completely irredeemable pile of garbage. I regret the $10 and two and a half hours spent watching it. I had no idea a Star Wars film could be made that was so terrible that it would make me kind of like The Last Jedi, but this film succeeded in doing exactly that.

This movie made me want to watch The Phantom Menace, but only the parts with Jar Jar, just to remind myself how good Star Wars used to be. This movie made me want to go back and edit my old review of The Force Awakens to say "Don't bother watching this, it doesn't well." The only thing that would make this film worth a home video purchase is if you plan to incinerate the box, or throw it away for comedic effect like Ron Swanson with vegan bacon.

The plot is nonsensical, the script is poor, it earns exactly zero of its heavy emotional moments and I still, after three movies, don't care about any of these characters. I wish they all died. The talented cast is completely wasted on this script that was clearly written for and by idiots. It has the gall to reanimate the corpse of Carrie Fisher to do absolutely nothing in 20 minutes of screen time while completely failing to use Mark Hamill for more than 90 seconds.

That's all. It's bad, it's insulting, and you shouldn't watch it.

I feel any sane Star Wars fan will regard this movie as non-cannon trash so that the series can make a lick of sense. The last movie ruined warp drives and space battles, this continued to do so while also making the force make no sense. The only nice thing that I saw was Rey show vulnerability for 1/4 of a second during her fight with Kylo, even though it make little sense and she just won at the end of the day anyways. The story writing has got to be the single worst element as it is just inconsistent garbage. This is particularly true when certain story or plot elements continue from the other movies. It also decided that it did not ruin previous characters enough and continues to squander the work of both the prequels and originals main characters. My disdain is immeasurable and my day is ruined. It's hard to put into words how much Disney
messed up, and it's even harder to explain what I don't like about this without spoiling anything. What I can say is that this movie is devoid of life, creativity, and care. What little plot Episode 9 had, made sure to render episodes 1-6 pointless. Everything Luke
did in the original trilogy and everything the
prequel trilogy tried to show no longer matter.
This movie could have been good and it had
potential, but any it had was quickly wasted, as within the first 30 minutes, it became apparent that this movie was going to spend a long time retconning what happened in Ep 8.

Trying to please everyone with fan-service, it
appears that JJ Abrams forgot that he was
directing a movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I suspect JJ Abrams took every major fan theory that has been floating around the internet for the last 4 years an inserted them into his script .The end result is a convoluted mess of a plot that comes across like fan fiction . I think basically was trying to appease fandom too much and this is a film that that while strong in spectacle is ultimately devoid of any creative flare and originality .A certain high profile character from the prequel and original trilogies is brought back with little explanation . While not as contentious as the Last Jedi , lacking some of the childish aspects of the Phantom Menace and being slightly more original than The Force Awakens ( although it does repeat some aspects of Return of the Jedi ) it is still the worst of the episodic Star Wars movies . It devalues the events in Return of the Jedi and brings the Skywalker saga to an unsatisfying conclusion . Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So... this is it. This is how the Skywalker saga ends, right? Well, good job, Dinsey; your trilogy achieved to kill the Skywalker legacy one and for all. And even you buried Anakin lightsaber in the planet (Tatooine) he hated the most (just like his son Luke) and every single Skywalker is now dead.

This trilogy doesn't make any sense. What was the point of Ben Solo's and Rey's journey? What was the point of bringing back Palpatine? Why the New Republic was just like the Rebellion in the OT? Why the hell the First Order had a massive fleet when they lost the Galactic Civil War in the OT?

This is a mess. This trilogy will not hold up the time and is a lot worst than the Prequel Trilogy. At least in the PT made sense the transition between the characters and the plot, in this nothing works.

The only good result about this is that this trilogy is over. Finally this nostalgia trip is gone.

This was a weak movie - too many new plot points, planets, and characters thrown into the movie made it a mind bending mess. It is very convoluted and things happen in the movie because the plot needs it to not because they should happen. The total lack of a plan for the trilogy is what got us here. Kathleen Kennedy needs to be fired as does Bob Iger for his poor judgement in handling this disaster. JJ Abrams put in every old Star Wars reference in the book and jammed in Easter Eggs and a flashing light show that will give you permanent retina damage. Best parts were Billy Dee Williams and somewhat better treatment of the lead characters (especially Finn). Best scene overall was John Boyega at the Resistance base at the end of the movie looking around the crowd - I swear he’s trying to find his script. Expand

Bringing back the original villain without any clear explanation as to how they survived makes it hard for most of the fans to suspend their disbelief. It could've been a great cop-out for a problematic trilogy if it wasn't executed so terribly. If you're a casual viewer, this film is watchable. You have the amazing effects, cool action sequences and musical score by the great John Williams. But if you're after a satisfying closure to 42 years of storytelling, this will only break your heart as it did mine. This should have been bigger than Endgame-- we're talking about four decades of storytelling right here. It's a rare shared cultural experience for all ages. And what did we get? JJ Abrams has seemingly gone to great lengths to undo the good faith earned by The Last Jedi and, to a lesser extent, his own The Force Awakens in delivering this overly cliche, predictable and risk-free vanilla ‘conclusion’ to the Skywalker Saga. This film is made even worse still when held in contrast with the final scene of The Last Jedi, where the vastness and the magic of the Star Wars universe presents itself to suggest that heroes can lie anywhere, yet in TROS we are seemingly told that nobody else matters but a select few. Hence, this elitist schlock does an immense disservice to every other Star Wars film which has come before it. Boo! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot is rushed and filled with holes (so many good questions for another time: when you buy the various books I guess), the action scenes are extremely generic, the lightsaber battles are poorly choreographed (especially compared to the prequels that went all out on that front) and Abrams tries to deliver some emotional moments but they mostly feel cheap and flat: Chewbacca and C3PO fake deaths, "Dark Rey" 5 seconds scene (did anybody actually think she would turn?), the Reylo kiss (yikes, totally out of place)... Also, that's not how the f-ing force works! Force healing, Force vision (that's how Kylo has that conversation with Han Solo apparently), Force Skype calls, Force Skype battles (dafuq?), Force Amazon deliveries and that "Dyad" **** which origin is never explained...

Anyway, Youtube is filled with videos explaining it better and in more details than me. Definitely the last nail in the coffin of that sad Disney trilogy.

I think the actors did a good job, specially Adam Driver, but they can't save the mess. I like Daisy Ridley as Rey, too bad she plays the stereotypical and generic strong female protagonist (Mary Sue) with no development or weaknesses, just innately the best at everything. Then we have the multicultural and inclusive good guys, that fulfill every quota, against the evil white males. Action scenes are good if you can ignore the many cliches and deus ex machina that take away all tension.

This movie is a huge disrespect to Star Wars lore and plotwise it was impossible to recover from the mess made by the last one. Masterclass on how to ruin a franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

It quickly becomes apparent how the sequel trilogy had no initial roadmap to help orchestrate its progression. As a result, The Rise of Skywalker disappointingly ends the sequel trilogy.

To start, the movie's fast pacing caused mental whiplash. It was draining trying to keep up with the nonstop plot progression. And with such a fast-paced narrative, there was no time to dive deeper into the characters, their motivations, and interrelationships. There were also many aspects of the movie that were not introduced, addressed, or concluded. Where were Kylo Ren's guards in the previous movie? How was Rey able to use some of her advanced powers with little to no training? What was Fin trying to tell Rey? Why does Rey always run off on her own, thus putting herself in danger? How did the main enemy collect the needed resources to support their forces? These unaddressed issues indicate a rushed production with little focus on quality.

The combat was laughable. In A New Hope, Obi Wan describes lightsabers as "elegant" weapons from "a more civilized" time. Their lightweight structure allows deft handling and precise combat, as demonstrated in the prequal trilogy movies. Combat in The Rise of Skywalker, however, is abysmal. Instead of gracefully using lightsabers as lightweight swords, actors violently swing them around like heavy baseball bats. It does not honor or align with the content established by previous movies.

Rey is also a poorly written character. Despite being one of the most important characters in the Star Wars universe, there is little to no logical justification as to how skilled she is at flying, sailing, fighting, using the force, etc. Again, sequel trilogy's lack of cohesive planning did not allow for such explanation.

Also, Rey never closes her mouth, and it's distracting.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I think the place where this movie shines is in the emotional impact, the parts with Ben & Rey, and Ben speaking with the vision of his father, his redemption, all the past Jedi speaking to Rey, and the ending scenes are all pretty great in my opinion. The concept of the Force dyad and the new properties/abilities displayed in the film, like the force healing and space bleeding into one another, I also thought were cool and perfectly fine. The music of course was fantastic, per usual. And the script being pretty good, fast-paced, humorous, impactful overall. So those are the good points - the bad points, of course, would be the plot/story/lore choices. The way they should have done this instead was:

- No need to bring Emperor back - instead, have Snoke come back. If a previously dead character is going to return, might as well make it be the villain of this current trilogy, say that he was one clone of many, one body of many that Snoke has which he has mastered the dark power to transfer between, alluding to the life transference from the legend of Darth Plageus, etc. And just in general, Andy Serkis is a fantastic badass villain, and I thought Snoke was horrifying, so I would've been cool with that. I've grown to accept the Emperor coming back, but it does indeed take a bit of the significance away from Darth Vader's sacrifice in Episode VI, so they might as well have just had Snoke come back and made him more dreadful/horrible in some fashion.

- The star destroyers all having death-star capable cannons - not necessary, just have them be a giant fleet of dark Sith ships, period, and that is plenty threatening enough. It beleggers belief by a lot that each of them has a planet-destroying weapon, given the amount of effort we saw in previous films that it took to construct the Death Stars and extract the kyber crystals required to power those lasers. It also would've been cooler if these ships looked slightly more Sith vs just normal standard grey star destroyers, and maybe if they showed the crews manning the ships to be dark cloaked Sith-adherents, vs just normal humans that were somehow chilling under that ice planet's surface for decades. - Finn's character - Poe at least had some semblance of development by us learning of him previously being a spice runner and meeting his old mates and also becoming the new general, but Finn's character felt very underwhelming/not much happened with him. I don't know what, but something significant needed to happen with him

So there's always what-ifs and wishes to be had after seeing how a cherished storyline pans out, but still despite these major plot weaknesses, the entire sequel trilogy and Rogue One are still vastly superior to any recent film since the original trilogy. I just rewatched some of Revenge of the Sith -- and the difference is so striking in the quality of the dialogue/script/general feeling of "is this a quality film or a B-movie" that about every 10-15 seconds, the characters in that film say something stupid or cringe-inducing or community-college-course writing quality that it makes you understand these films must be intended for children. Basically, I could recommend any of episode 7-9 to my non-fan family members without reservations and know they would like or not like them to some degree, but could definitely NOT recommend any of episode 1-3 without majorly couching it in "so, yeah, these movies are bad, but they have very cool action and show the history behind Darth Vader." Essentially the plot of Darth Vader's origin, action/CGI, and actors like Ewan McGreggor and Liam Neeson are the only true good things about Episodes 1-3, versus everything except for major plot points of Episode 9 is good in the new trilogy/Rogue One. And this is coming from someone who still likes the prequel trilogy! But if I liked even the prequels, then these latest films are all superb in comparison, and Rise of Skywalker is no exception despite being the weakest between episodes 7-9.
