The conclusion of a saga and so you go through the film, emotionally, very tense and at the end I left the cinema satisfied.

The film is not perfect, neither is this trilogy part of the Skywalker saga, but in the end you got very good Star Wars cinema.

Sure, I didn't like characters like Finn or some dialogues or the sometimes way too fast pacing, but that was bearable.

It clearly outweighs the positives, music, fan service (in a good way), scenery, atmosphere ... just the whole universe. I kept my expectations low because I liked the least of the new episode 7, but J.J. Abrahams convinced me.

I can recommend this film but the expectations should not be very high.

Star Wars has always had way too much stuff crammed into the final movie because the build up in the first two movies never fully completes the vision of the whole trilogy enough to make a properly placed movie. I'm sure this movie would have been LOTR length to have gotten it the way it should have been. I definitely think there was a lot of extended lore packed in, especially with the final battle, that really were put in there to pull from extended sources and lore. Those should have been explored in the previous films more. There are little details about the movie, like the books from the Jedi Temple that Rey saved and learned from, that really made it a bit more cohesive, but they should have decided to make the themes of this film more compressed rather than broad and expansive, leaving the movie feeling rushed and hollow. I don't think this really gave the Sequels justice, but as someone who really binged a lot of Star Wars material because of the Sequels, I think it really is something that is both bolstered and hindered by the saga and universe it resides in. I would say you should not watch this film without seeing at least half of the Clone Wars TV show (really you should watch all of it, it's the best thing done after the disaster that were the Prequels), as that was the only way this movie really made sense at some points. Not my favorite movie by a longshot, but definitely fun for someone who doesn't spend all day dredging through the internet wastes of Star Wars debates. Expand

After 40 years, the space, epic and generally galactic opera about the Skywalker family ended. I can imagine what a huge responsibility it was for the director and the whole team to put an end to such a long story. What can be said about this point. It is clearly better done than a point in one high-profile fantasy series (we will not say the name). J. J. Abrams put a good end to this story, giving credit to each character. Technically the film looks great (space flights and battle scenes). But in the very plot of the whole film, as if something was missing on a larger scale, and if it were not for the finale, then perhaps the 9th part was perceived in the same way as the previous 2 episodes. What else the film was very hooked on is the nostalgic moments of which there were enough in the film and they took for the soul, for this I will immediately give +1 point to the piggy bank. Sleep tight Skywalker Saga. Expand

Whilst still serviceable, 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' disappointed me - it makes for a relatively limp finish to the sequel trilogy.

The plot is the biggest letdown. It's all over the place, it might have a good amount of action but the actual point of the film is uninteresting and feels like something we've seen before. The cast still do well amongst all that, but I can't say I'll remember a performance from this.

With that said, Daisy Ridley is the best thing about it. Adam Driver is fine, but his character doesn't interest me much at this point. John Boyega and Oscar Isaac felt underused, while Kelly Marie Tran is discarded almost completely. Richard E. Grant is a slight upgrade on Domhnall Gleeson, but not by much.

A shorter run time may have helped this, instead it feels kinda bloated and without much reasoning to be so. I don't dislike it, it's still just about what I'd describe as good, but given it's part of 'Star Wars' it should've been far greater - in my opinion, at least.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. (I apologize in advence for some mistakes I may make, english is not my first language, so sorry.) This movie is honestly a lot better then I thought it would be. While the first 2 movies made Rey's developtment a little weird and hard to notice, this movie makes it obvious that it's her journey and I love it for that. Rey in this movie is not perfect, she struggles, she is impuslive, careless at times (she almost killed chewie) and she thinks for the most part it's her blood that will turn her into the very thing she fears the most. Now, Kylo. When you first watch it you will wonder how Kylo will turn good since the movie's name is The Rise of Skywalker and Kylo is the last Skywalker. And it makes so much sense, in that scene where Han speaks to him it's not really Han but his guilt towards killing Han that changed him and proved him wrong on his logic "kill it if you have to" because killing will not make you go past it in fact it will haunt you, but it can be for the better.

The movie is not perfect though, for example what the hell was the thing with the knife ? Couldn't they have just found something else like a tracker to find the artifact or something like this ? But honestly that is just a few things that didn't ruin the movie as a whole. Now the most contreversial part of the movie: Palpatine. He is great. His inclusion made sense for explaining why Rey was so powerful, even if I'm not a fan of "you can pnly use the Force because of lineage" but it also gives an intersting moral of "blood doesn't define who you are" with Rey overcoming the biggest threat of the whole galaxy and embodiment of all the siths which she was supposed to become. Now something that seemed weird but makes sense, why does Palpatine have thousands of planet busting ships ? Well improving techonoly and also he has been hiding in the shadows for another 30 years ! He was definitly preparing something. Now on to the more superficial stuff like the music the visuals the fights etc. All are great, the music may not be totally original but it's inclusion in certain precise scenes makes those scenes much more impactful. The visuals are also great with great shots, colors, and places that I wish I could know more about. The fight scenes are very good, you can see Rey's impulsiveness which makes her weak against Kylo, those scenes are not here nor are they too perfect like in the prequels, those fights feel real. Overall great characters, great story, great moral at the end, of course it's no even close to the original trilogy but it's a very good movie that could've made the sequel trilogy bad in the end.

I was a big fan of The Force Awakens and I love most of Abrams’ work so I went in with high hopes. Coming out of the film, I was on cloud nine. From start to finish, the film had me on the edge of my seat as it whirled me around this amazing Star Wars galaxy. While I agree that this film, compared to its predecessors, has the most criticisms, I found myself realizing that some of what you hear others say should be heard with a grain of salt. At most, this film’s major problem is it’s break neck speed. From it’s first moments to its last, it barely gives you any time to breathe - or the characters for that matter. Twenty to thirty minutes would have made this movie that much better, however, all of what you need to enjoy this film IS there. Even if it’s a little fast.

In the end, for me, spending any time in a galaxy far, far away is a good time, and if you go in ready to go on an adventure - I think you’ll enjoy it. It’s not just a wonderful end to the sequel trilogy but a beautiful reminder of how special all 9 films in the saga are.

But I absolutely loved Episode 9 :). Yes there was plenty in there and maybe some of it was a bit thrown together and the pacing was fast but I adored every minute of it.

I've always thought that Kylo Ren was a bit like a teenager on the bus with his music on too loud who I would have no qualms about going up to and telling him to turn it down. He just never gave me the feeling a Star Wars villain should, but I think in this film he really came of age and he seemed like he was playing the character he meant to.

Most of all though, we had our real villain back who I can take seriously. Maybe it's just nostalgia cutting through and giving me the warm fuzzies (although as I say, I didn't like Episode 7 or 8 much) but this film gave me all the feels a Star Wars film should, and it felt like it was a beautiful and fitting end.

An epic ending to a legendary saga.

TROS is a rollercoaster thrill-ride that harkens back to the classic adventure films of yesteryear. While moving at a breakneck pace, this movie gets better with every re-watch.

New and old characters alike reach meaningful ends to their journeys, with many a satisfying conclusion to the various story threads.

The story rings true to the themes of the Star Wars name, and what they have represented from the very beginning: A classic tale of good vs. evil, overcoming ones own fears and doubts, overcoming destiny, and finding strength from love and unity with others.

All of this is delivered in a dynamite package of spectacle and stunning visuals. Truly a film that transports the viewer to another place.

I'm not ashamed to say that I cried. I was very satisfied. What seemed too much to comprehend on first viewing comes across as much more measured and balanced the second time around. Of course, you have to suspend disbelief, but you shouldn't take it too seriously, anyway. It's only a Star Wars film. If anything, I would have liked to have seen more of the Rose Tico character. I was pleased that the lesbian kiss was included. It might have been a very small gesture, but it's a step in the right direction and is promsing for the expanded universe. For the record, I personally liked The Last Jedi and am pleased overall with the final trilogy. This final iteration made me want to watch the whole saga all over again for the overall story arc, even the first three (I actually didn't mind the third one). I know there are a lot of impassioned people out there, as they have a strong emotional investment in the storyline, and some people are very precious about their sci-fi mythos, but were the films ever really anything more than swashbuckling popcorn movies? I can't believe there is so much hate for this movie. I think people take the work that goes into movies of this calibre for granted - a lot of hard of work and dedication has gone into this and clearly they care about this universe. I think it's an incredible achievement and the cast and crew should be congratulated for a fitting end to it all. Babu Frik rocks! Thanks, J.J. Expand

I thought The Rise of Skywalker was one of the most respectful endings of any series. It honoured and respected all fans who stuck with the franchise, ending emotionally and neatly.

I found over half of the film had a strong emotional connection. I could not imagine the franchise resolving in any other way, now that I have seen it. I bought it on Blu-ray and just watched it for the first time today. What struck me first was the outstanding cinematography, effects, and sets. It was flawless from start to finish in this respect.

The pacing of the movie was excellent too. It went from one excellent idea and place to another. This aspect had me thinking (while watching) that it was a strong Star Wars entry. However I was wary that it might start falling apart after maybe half way through. However it didn't. It just carried on at a pace, and was joined by strong emotional content. From about half way through, tears started coming more and more frequently. I was a mess by the end, and once the credits rolled I was pretty much fallen apart. It took me away from my daily life and for a while and I did not want to come back. My opinion is that it showed strength, honour, and respect to Star Wars fans. Blazing sci-fi.

That may not be a popular take on this film, but it's mine and I am sticking to it. The characters were all incredibly strong and all got good plot parts. To mirror this the acting was top-notch. For this and it's other qualities I mentioned, it felt like a film that was packed to the rafters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I think the place where this movie shines is in the emotional impact, the parts with Ben & Rey, and Ben speaking with the vision of his father, his redemption, all the past Jedi speaking to Rey, and the ending scenes are all pretty great in my opinion. The concept of the Force dyad and the new properties/abilities displayed in the film, like the force healing and space bleeding into one another, I also thought were cool and perfectly fine. The music of course was fantastic, per usual. And the script being pretty good, fast-paced, humorous, impactful overall. So those are the good points - the bad points, of course, would be the plot/story/lore choices. The way they should have done this instead was:

- No need to bring Emperor back - instead, have Snoke come back. If a previously dead character is going to return, might as well make it be the villain of this current trilogy, say that he was one clone of many, one body of many that Snoke has which he has mastered the dark power to transfer between, alluding to the life transference from the legend of Darth Plageus, etc. And just in general, Andy Serkis is a fantastic badass villain, and I thought Snoke was horrifying, so I would've been cool with that. I've grown to accept the Emperor coming back, but it does indeed take a bit of the significance away from Darth Vader's sacrifice in Episode VI, so they might as well have just had Snoke come back and made him more dreadful/horrible in some fashion.

- The star destroyers all having death-star capable cannons - not necessary, just have them be a giant fleet of dark Sith ships, period, and that is plenty threatening enough. It beleggers belief by a lot that each of them has a planet-destroying weapon, given the amount of effort we saw in previous films that it took to construct the Death Stars and extract the kyber crystals required to power those lasers. It also would've been cooler if these ships looked slightly more Sith vs just normal standard grey star destroyers, and maybe if they showed the crews manning the ships to be dark cloaked Sith-adherents, vs just normal humans that were somehow chilling under that ice planet's surface for decades. - Finn's character - Poe at least had some semblance of development by us learning of him previously being a spice runner and meeting his old mates and also becoming the new general, but Finn's character felt very underwhelming/not much happened with him. I don't know what, but something significant needed to happen with him

So there's always what-ifs and wishes to be had after seeing how a cherished storyline pans out, but still despite these major plot weaknesses, the entire sequel trilogy and Rogue One are still vastly superior to any recent film since the original trilogy. I just rewatched some of Revenge of the Sith -- and the difference is so striking in the quality of the dialogue/script/general feeling of "is this a quality film or a B-movie" that about every 10-15 seconds, the characters in that film say something stupid or cringe-inducing or community-college-course writing quality that it makes you understand these films must be intended for children. Basically, I could recommend any of episode 7-9 to my non-fan family members without reservations and know they would like or not like them to some degree, but could definitely NOT recommend any of episode 1-3 without majorly couching it in "so, yeah, these movies are bad, but they have very cool action and show the history behind Darth Vader." Essentially the plot of Darth Vader's origin, action/CGI, and actors like Ewan McGreggor and Liam Neeson are the only true good things about Episodes 1-3, versus everything except for major plot points of Episode 9 is good in the new trilogy/Rogue One. And this is coming from someone who still likes the prequel trilogy! But if I liked even the prequels, then these latest films are all superb in comparison, and Rise of Skywalker is no exception despite being the weakest between episodes 7-9.

First it’s great to have J.J Abrams back in the directors chair, nothing was wrong with Ryan Johnson but with Abrams it’s a whole different beast entirely. Everything looks great all the effects are outstandingly beautiful, the whole cast is still great but it’s even better to have Harrison Ford come back as Han again I lost it in the theater. But I think the big stand out is Adam Driver aka Kylo Ren he gets so much development in the movie it’s crazy, I went from hating him to loving him. But the big thing is Palpatine and Rey that is something the fan base was not ready for and it was a great. The final battle was the best in the franchise because of all the voices of the fallen Jedi. Overall the best Star Wars movie of all time having the entire Star Wars cast from the past movies come back was amazing, go watch this now it just became available on Disney+. Expand

Realistically the movie is a 6 or 7. It’s watchable and I found it entertaining. Personally thought Abrams’ did a good job cleaning up the mess that was The Last Jedi and I give him props for that. They should of just let him direct all 3 of these movies and I promise this trilogy would of actually had an impact.

Love the conflict in Rey and the all jedi speaking to her in the most important moment. I wish Finn had been more important and Palpatine had been Plagieus or preferably Darth Jar Jar. I don't love the super weapon destroyers. But the random people who show up with Lando is awesome. I really like parts and dislike others. Still a good movie for me overall. Expand

Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hammill , Alec Guiness and James Earl Jones as Darth Vader (the main 5, as other actors at this time also helped give an authentic feel to this franchise) are such a tremendous force (pun intended) together, that the magic they create on film is nothing like what we get today... That alone has an appeal that carried 4, 5 and 6 to great heights. And its not cause their acting was the greatest in movie world, yet the chemistry between them is so electric and on point , this helps glue such an awe inspiring recipe for great viewing and also the fact the movie which they helped create was many years ahead of time. Too many imo take this for granted and carry such a massive weight of expectation that they're setting themselves up for dissatisfaction way b4 the new movies are even made. Such a massive job to take on these new films. I loved Rise of Skywalker applauding JJ Abrams a job well done to the max as this was a very very hard job to take on.
Even though i clearly wasn't consciously self aware enough at the age of 2 seeing A new hope, this was the age i was when seeing the 1st Star Wars film. It's been such a presence in my life (as for many, clearly) its great to see the Skywalker saga come to a close with now a lot of excitement to see where the franchise goes next. Thank you so much George Lucas for giving us this amazing and truly inspiring gift.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A good movie with a heap of gaping flaws: Every character except Kylo and Rey has no character traits now, it feels like two movies smooshed into one, they set up an interesting story for Poe and go nowhere with it in the third act, the conclusion to Finn's arc is weak, Palpatine's return retcons Anakin's Chosen One prophecy, which was one of the main plot points of Episodes I, II, III, and retrospectively VI, Kylo being counted as a Sith goes against the lore set up in Episode VII, the kiss between Ben and Rey is utterly ridiculous, most character development from Episode VIII is retconned in favor of Abrams' own vision, which retrospectively makes that movie worse because the characters were the whole point, Rose is barely in the movie, Jannah could have been really cool but the writers didn't give her a character, Lando's reintroduction feels cheap and he doesn't really do anything in the movie, Palpatine having a bunch of Star Destroyers under the ground makes zero sense, the Knights of Ren do absolutely nothing... The list goes on. In an attempt to "fix" The Last Jedi, the filmmakers created an incoherent, fan-pleasing mess of a film that disrespects both the two movies in the trilogy that came before it and the series as a whole. So, you may be asking, why did I give it a positive rating? I think people get so caught up in the film's admittedly numerous flaws that they forget it also has good qualities. The whole Rey-Palpatine thing isn't executed perfectly, but it does add some extra depth to Rey's character, and provides some interesting character moments. Kylo's redemption is beautifully done. They did a fantastic job honoring Carrie Fisher and her character, even after her passing. Rey and Kylo's friendship is good except for the kiss. The world-building is quite interesting. Babu Frik is awesome. There's a surprising poeticism to the film's final act. The list for this goes on as well. While it certainly has a plethora of flaws, you can still tell the filmmakers tried, and that they cared. Next time you watch it, maybe look for the good qualities, too.
7/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros: -Fantastic score, as per usual with Star Wars.
-Great performances from all the actors, particularly Ian McDiarmid.
-Rey being Palpatine’s granddaughter, while I can understand why it’s disappointing to some, I feel is a really cool twist that I didn't see coming.
-The film has really great visuals and great action.
-Tons of fanservice that’s sure to please hardcore Star Wars fans.
-I am forever grateful to J.J. Abrams for making Rose’s role in this movie nothing more than a cameo appearance. While I don’t have anything against Kelly Marie Tran, Rose was just a boring, irritating character in The Last Jedi and I was praying she wouldn’t be heavily involved in The Rise of Skywalker. -They did a great job integrating Leia into the film. It really does feel like Carrie Fisher was there on the set when they were filming. Massive props to the production teams for pulling that off.
-Hearing all the voice’s of Jedi’s past, while I do still wish we could have seen their actual ghosts, is really cool, and even just hearing the voices of characters like Kanan and Ahsoka from the cartoons in one of the films is so freaking awesome. Cons: -The pacing is a bit too fast and it can be hard to keep up at times.
-Parts of the script feel a bit too fan-fictiony. -Why does Palpatine order Ben to try and kill Rey if his plan is to have her take on the title of empress? It just seems like an odd choice. -Some of the new characters like Zorii Bliss and Jannah seem interesting but aren’t very fleshed out. -There are some plot lines that they introduce but then just don't go anywhere with them. For example, they reveal that Hux is the mole in the First Order feeding info to the rebels, but then kill him off shortly after, and later on they hint at Finn being force sensitive, but then don’t really go anywhere with that plot line.
-Certain arcs feel a bit rushed, like Rey’s existential crisis she goes through when she realizes she’s a Palpatine and Poe’s doubting he can lead the Resistance after Leia dies. -While seeing all those ships come together to take on the final order is cool to see, it does lead one to question where all these people were when the Resistance sent out a distress signal in The Last Jedi.
-They don’t really explain Darth Sidious’s return all too well in the film itself. -Sidious’ return can, and has, been interpreted as making Anakin Skywalker’s sacrifice in Return of the Jedi pointless. I feel if they just added a line saying something along the lines of that each generation has a different chosen one and that Anakin was the chosen one of his generation while Rey is the chosen one of her generation, then that would have cleared things up. -While the, “I AM ALL THE SITH!”, and, “I am all the Jedi.”, lines are pretty awesome, it definitely does feel like the writers were trying a little too hard to copy Endgame.

Final Verdict: Overall, I think The Rise of Skywalker is a good movie, but similarly to the Last Jedi, it’s got some pretty noteworthy flaws that can drag things down a bit. The pacing is a bit too fast, even for a J.J. Abrams film, and some plot lines are either rushed or don’t really go anywhere. This movie really could have benefitted from an extra 30-40 minutes in it’s runtime. Still, it’s a solid conclusion to the Skywalker saga that should satisfy most fans. 7/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A satisfying ending to a great Star Wars trilogy. I like Episode IX a lot. If you liked the previous movies, you'll like this one, too. Broadly speaking, The Rise of Skywalker is what you would expect from a Star Wars movie. Great visual and special effects, amazing action scenes, cool lightsaber fights, great space battles, fitting soundtrack. My favorite scene was the long duel between Rey and Kylo Ren. I wasn't bored at any point during this film and I was entertained by all the action. This is what matters the most to me.

The story, on the other hand, is a matter of preference. I'm not a fan of all the decisions they made, but I wouldn't say they're "wrong" or "bad". A lot of people are understandingly torn on the Palpatine plot. It does feel kind of rushed and unestablished. But it didn't bother me that much. I just liked seeing him blast all those ships with Force lightning. As far as Kylo Ren's story is concerned, I'm pleased with how it ended. He redeemed himself in the end, then became one with the Force.

Rey's story I feel like is just beginning. She let go of the past. She's very powerful. She has her own lightsaber which is yellow. There is so much potential there. I just want to see her unleash her powers in the future trilogy. I want to see her shoot lightning again. I freaking loved the sequels, man. I'm a proud Star Wars fanboy. I can't wait for the new trilogy.

I went in a bit scared because I did not care for The Last Jedi at all (it basically did nothing to advance a story, just killed Luke), but I'm so happy to see that J.J. was able to put something good together here.
He ignored a few things from Last Jedi, took jabs at others, and continued the story as he envisioned it starting in The Force Awakens.
I think this is a fine ending to the Skywalker Saga.
It is by no means a perfect movie, and there were some things I did not like, but honestly, the positive very much outweighs the negative. Rey was more of a likable character, Kylo Ren was absolutely epic, Finn and Poe were back to their amazing chemistry and banter... I did not mind Palpatine being back at all, either. Altogether a great movie, and worthy ending.
Much better than The Last Jedi, and that in itself is a big relief!

Even though J.J. Abrams prefers to paint by numbers, his works remain fulfilling.

An almost impossible movie to review as it seeks to pull together the completely disjoint trilogy with the previous 6 movies. It's a fun enough adventure romp - ala Indiana Jones without the charismatic lead. You simply have to go with the underlying premise that much of the previous 2 movies are just bait-and-switch nonsense, with the Emperor's return not being overly menacing or meaningful... but they had to have someone. Much of the movie is just action-for-action-sake, and you don't really get much conclusion that sticks the landing. The Reylo story line would have been better if it had had the whole movie to coalesce, but instead as they are trying to fit 2 movies into 2h20m they skip over a lot of the interesting plot developments. And there could have been some great story-beats to the movie - if Palpatine had been introduced earlier, and not left as a 'in-case-of-emergency' device. Also, while Driver and Ridley do a great job with what they've got, there's little substance to their twists and turns. Space horses has a Canto Bight feel to it as well, and I was half expecting to see Darth Maul make an appearance. There's a good movie here, but it's handicapped by a 3 movie mess. Expand

It did feel a little rushed in setting up the story line, but that was likely caused by RJ completely wasting the entirety of the 8th episode. JJ picked up the ball that RJ dropped and brought the series to a satisfying conclusion without any dumb suicide jumping or Jedi flying through space. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time, my 2nd favorite action movie of 2019, my 2nd favorite movie of 2019, one of my top 5 favorite action movies of all time, and one of my favorite movies of all time. The lead acting from Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Ian McDiarmid, Joonas Suotamo, Anthony Daniels, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill was exceptional. Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Greg Grunberg, Harrison Ford, Shirley Henderson, Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, Lupita Nyong'o, Kelly Marie Tran, Billy Dee Williams, Dominic Monaghan, and Billie Lourd gave phenomenal supporting performances. The visual effects were magnificent especially in the ocean scene, the final battle scene, and the scenes with Carrie Fisher. I loved the new creature and alien species especically the the Orbaks. I loved all of the new characters especically D-O, Babu Frik, Zorli Bliss, and Jannah. The writing and story was excellent. The makeup and hairstyling was superb especically on Ian McDiarmid, Daisy Ridley, Naomi Ackie, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, Kelly Marie Tran, Carrie Fisher, Billie Lourd, and Oscar Isaac. The costumes were outstanding especically on Ian McDiarmid, Joonas Suotamo, Keri Russell, Naomi Ackie, Adam Driver, Anthony Daniels, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Kelly Marie Tran. The soundtrack was stupendous. Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker was so much better than I could have imagined and was a A+ movie. Expand
