I was really excited for this movie and went to see this with good expectations but nothing went as expected.

Script was loose and screenplay was very shattered. There were problems with editing also. Direction also felt weak, didn't seem like it was directed by Oscar winner director. Story was weak and childish and it looked like if too much was added in the movie. This could have been easily two part movie.

Overall, this movie was an unexpected disappointment. Hope, they improve in sequels.

TheProbably the worst MCU movie for me. Characters uninteresting. The story didn't interest me either and was a bit poorly presented here and there as it jumped around to the past and then to the present and was a bit of a goulash for me. The action wasn't bad, but there wasn't much of it, and especially it wasn't good enough to keep the film at 2 and a half hours. Like I said. The action wasn't bad, but Endgame set the bar high and this was definitely weaker than that. To sum it up. The movie itself wasn't even all that spectacular in my opinion, and when you add in the fact that this is the third Marvel movie and that the previous ones were great, this is a pretty big downer for me. I'm disappointed. The thing that scares me the most about this is that this probably isn't the only movie and there will be a second installment. Who knows? Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. But for now, I'm not looking forward to it at all and I wouldn't see it as a series. For me, a mediocre movie that I don't recommend and if anything, really only to the biggest Marvel fans. Expand

This movie was very different when comparing it to most Marvel movies, or even superhero movies for that matter. It had a vision, it had a good, solid, concept with a moral dilemma splashed among the characters and story, and it had outstanding visuals. But at the core it had some story issues, there were too many characters introduced for us to care about any of them as much as the movie wants us to, and it was just kind of a mess in terms of a consistent story, it jumped around a lot. Remember Birds of Prey how it was all over the place; because Harley Quinn was telling it and she has a screwed-up head? This movie jumped around MORE than that and there wasn't a reason for that like in Birds of Prey. Solid movie, not amazing due to the non-consistent story, but overall some great writing, core story, and just a pretty good time killer overall. Will the Eternals be as iconic as the Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy? Not in a million years. But still an enjoyable experience. Expand

For the duration of the film of 2 hours, there is a lot of unnecessary filler which could have been used to give more details of the plot and put more action.
And the ending is regularly bad.

Similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, this is one of those Marvel properties that I had no prior knowledge of and the movie was my first foray into their story. Unlike Guardians of the Galaxy, though, it was not good.

The movie has a lot of problems and it falls under the umbrella of those flicks where the more you think about it, the worse it gets, and if you don’t think about it, it’s middling at best, as elements and players introduced by the story and trying to squeeze them in an already expansive Universe lacks well thought out writing for proper cohesion and thus it comes off as lazy and stupid. Case in point: The Celestials, the true Godly Beings that have been shown a few times before in the MCU but this is the movie where you get a proper explanation about their existence and when the plot reveals details about the Prime Celestial Arishem’s design, it’s just dumb and saps whatever interest one might have had in that part of the story and worldbuilding.

Since I have grown a bit apathetic towards this cinematic universe due to worldbuilding shenanigans that Phase 4 has shown so far, poor writing in that area alone wouldn’t have been a big issue (would still be an issue) had the characters been interesting but that turned out to be the biggest problem of this movie which stems from its own nature of being i.e there are ten Eternals, ten main new characters that are introduced in a single movie, and none of them is properly developed. As I write this review, I don’t even remember the names of many of them. On top of that, director Chloe Zao decided to have the cast give uninterested/boring and bland performances for so much of the runtime instead of being energetic and charismatic utilizing every bit of screen time they have to imbue personality to their roles. There was also lost potential of a plot point regarding Deviants, the movie just ends it in an anti-climatic fashion and throws it away.

With all that being said, I did enjoy certain things. There were some beautiful visuals, particularly with the Celestials and their gargantuan scale, especially if you don’t think about the physics of it all. Some of the fights were entertaining even with the iffy CGI, the speedster Eternal especially was portrayed how I’d wish other movies to showcase their speed type characters and you get a fun meta pseudo Superman vs Flash throwdown. Despite having thin characterization, some Eternals I did end up liking such as Druig, Gilgamesh or even Icarus, and hell I even got interested in that one Deviant since that seemed important relative to most characters in the movie. I also do applaud the director for not filling the movie to the brim with the typical Marvel brand of humour which has been getting too annoying recently and I wish strong writing was present to complement the more serious tone. Plus, the movie had both Jon Snow and Robb Stark fall in love with Sersi which I found amusing.

Overall, this is in the bottom tier of MCU movies for me. I wouldn’t say it’s the worst one, that title belongs to Black Widow for now. I don’t know how the events in Eternals will play out going forward in the MCU or whether it’ll have any impact or would be forgotten. This probably would have fared far better if it was a Disney+ series instead as that would have given it time to develop its characters at the very least even if at the loss of spectacle. Wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re an MCU fan and completionist. Anyway, if I were to rate it, I’d give it a 5/10.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a mess of a movie! The pacing is WAYYY off. And who was the genius who had the idea to introduce more than 6 main characters, and make the less charismatic one be the protagonist? I don't even remember half the name of the characters....there wasn't enough time to properly flesh them out. The visual quality was astonishing, I have to give them credit for that! but that is pretty much all I can praise the movie for(except Kingo and Theena). The "side villain", if you can call it that, was disappointing. They tried to flesh out the villain, give it proper motivation and heck....they even made it interesting...but they had to make it into a plot device/punching bag. what I'm about to say next is just my subjective opinion(and I could be totally wrong, I'm not educated enough in economy to make a statement): Disney pumped this movie out, instead of making a Disney+ show to make more money. Since they probably get less money trough their service yearly than a movie that takes a couple of months to film Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is the very definition of mediocre. It is not as bad, as some people make it and it is not as good as others make it. At the end it is watchable, but a bland experience, like stale bread. A few points in no particular order:

The visual effects are 2/3 gorgeous and 1/3 really bad and boring. The deviants are very generic, the whole vulcano part looks artificial, I don't buy the costumes and I find it kinda hilarious that they wear exactly the same stuff for thousands of years. That's quality! The ship looks way to small on screen, most of the time I have the feeling you couldn't even stand in it.

There is too much going on. To many characters, to many topics, to many locations, to many ideas... most of that stuff is not explored while the themes in itself like love, betrayal, not aging, one existing world vs. thousands to be born, are good! All of that could actually be really interesting, but there is no time to develop any of it. The result is, when people start dying I simply don't care, I had no time to get to know these characters. The Avengers worked because we had time to bond with these characters in their solo movies.

Some of the logic of the movie seems plain wrong. The Eternals should be really powerful, Thanos level powerful actually, yet they feel really weak. One determined Avenger could probably take down most of them and one of the Avengers power houses would mop the floor with this flying dude (sorry, still can't remember most of the names). There are very few deviants, I don't really get the threat. I don't think 10 deviants could take down millions of dinosaurs. Why is there an "alpha deviant"? There is no explanation for that. If they are space robots designed for a purpose, why are most of the designs so weak? Wouldn't it make more sense to just create 10 flying dudes with laser eyes? The movie "explains", why the Eternals didn't interfere with Thanos and Ultron, but there is no logic behind it. These events where a threat to their mission, so they should have interfered. I also don't get why no other character shows up, at least when the action is over. A giant statue coming out of the ocean should interest someone. Most actors are wasted, especially Kid Harrington and Salma Hayek. I was really hoping for the Black Knight to be in this. The movie has no villain. The deviants are more like a distraction or wild beasts without any real agenda. The betrayal part is weak and boring, I wasn't shocked by it, kinda saw it coming. Marvels Eternals is essentially a movie without an antagonist and that simply does not make for interesting story telling. The climax was like preventing an earth quake and it had no gravity to it, there was no sense of urgency or threat, it didn't feel like a final stand to save humanity.

So, all in all, I found the movie a rather boring experience. I checked my phone so much while watching it, I actually had to rewind a few times to catch what's going on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Frankly? I did not understand. The post-credit scenes are some of the worst ever. Graphic rendering of Pip the Troll objectively awful. Also, why do you have to tell me two days after the movie came out that it was Blade talking to Whitman? Just because people recognized Ali's voice? But then it wasn't worth taking a simple stunt to make him do that scene. Which is not even a scene. Ali doesn't even appear, it's just five seconds off-screen. Otherwise, Ikaris is the ugly version of Patriot and Arishem seems morally correct Thanos. The plot is saved, but it's too little. Expand

A major setback in so many ways. Eternal and immortal beings who have been around defending Earth from creatures known as deviants for over 7000 years find themselves in conflict with one another and contemplating their destiny/legacy and other such things when the deviants return to attack Earth again. Directed by Chloe Zhao (hot off her Academy Award-winning run with 'Nomadland'), this is a major misstep for the MCU in a surprising amount of ways. Incoherently jumping around time period after time period throughout, a confusing narrative, thinly-developed characters, surprisingly slow pacing and development throughout, etc. Really the only compliments I can pay this film is that it looks beautiful (the cinematography is gorgeous), and it's also one of the most emotional and thought-provoking MCU entries to date, which I did appreciate at times, but it wasn't near enough to save this mess of a film. Overall, it's an alarming decline in quality in what we've come to expect in the MCU. Oh and PS, the mid-credits scene cost this film a whole star for me, that's how big of a joke it was. Expand

The visuals were stunning and it had some fun parts, BUT this movie was slow and stupid. The movie really picks up in the last 30 mins, which means that 90% of this movie is pointless. 3 hours is too long, it's clear that they didn't understand how to tell a concise and compelling story. This movie needed stronger editing, and a director at the helm that has done big, box office action movies. The constant jumping back and forth, to various times and storylines is distracting at best, and annoying at worst. There are major plot holes, and such bad CGI issues, and just sub-par acting. This group of actors don't seem like they enjoyed being on screen together. Kumal is there for forced comedic relief and they can't even get that right in most cases. This is a big miss for Marvel. Wait for this to come to Disney+ but save yourself the 3 hours at the theatre. They are just spending it setting up the next film, and world-building. You have no emotional connection to the characters and so you don't really care what happens to them. The positive reviews are either people spamming one letter "Aaaaaa" or clearly from Marvel fanboys who didn't see the film. I was pretty disappointed by this film considering the budget, the hype, and the fact that they wanted to hinge Phase 4 on this new team. I can't understand how fans of the MCU could like this. The movie felt like it thought its audience was dumb and just spent too much time trying to explain this massive background and world-building they kept beating over our head. It was very anticlimactic in the final fight, the powers are a bit boring as well, and I don't see how they will mix The Eternals into the MCU (and maybe they shouldn't because this clearly didn't land). This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Till the first half of the movie, the movie was good, didnt really reming me of a marvel movie that much, but it had a nice built story, but after the second half, the movie was pure bad, plot twists all the time, the final battle was not expected to turn out like that and more. Long story short, after the second half the movie felt rushed like a rushed school project. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Boring and stupid, primarily because there are way too many characters. The first 20 minutes was OK, until the film randomly jumps backwards in time 5,000 years and focused on a bunch of other characters we hadn't seen yet. Like the main characters are Rob Stark and Asian lady who I can't remember the name of because she was so boring, but instead of focusing on them equal screen time is given to another 6 eternals (plus background characters) who don't add anything to the plot. On top of that, some of the plot decisions are mind-numbingly stupid. I won't give any spoilers, but what Rob Stark's character does at the end of the film is the single dumbest thing that has ever happened in a marvel film and it makes me angry just thinking about it. Eternals is an exceptionally beautiful Film that tries to live up to the great expectations of a massive action epic but is mostly let down by a bright but unstable cast of enigmatic characters who try to pass it off as thematic with emotional depth. The magnitude of Eternals is unlike anything I've seen in the MCU so far, but it also results in a film that just has too much on its plate. While I admire the MCU for taking a chance by offering an ambitious and unique narrative, the script and storytelling just did not live up to the film's ambitious ideals. Expand

First and second acts have both intense beginning and then they're turning into slow, agonizing mess. The last act is the other way around, so it's easy to fall asleep 40 minutes before grand finale which feels flat... to be honest, if you have seen Transformers: The last Knight - you won't be shocked.
The best play and character is Angelina's Jolie Thena. The rest if forgettable.

But to not make it obviously, he made every ability of Superman a character. Tha Antagonists are super weak, both in power and in appearence and technically not relevant for the plot.
But the Weak Heroes makes up for that, The effects and impact of there powers are boring.
They look like they even couldn combined beat one of the Avengers.
And everyone of them has to represent a member of a social fringe group, is this what they called wokestuff?
The Plot is "meh" to "ok", then gets REALLY interessting in the middle and late part of the movie, but than falls comepletely flat.
They even broke there own rules they set up earlier.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Eternals is, unfortunately, a failed experiment. It had to happen sooner or later. I'm a fan of the MCU, and frankly sometimes shocked at the overall level of quality they put out, so even when the Eternals trailer looked "off", I still saw it opening night. I'll repeat this is a failed, actually bad movie, and bad in all the completely predictable ways one would guess when pairing a great director with zero big-budget green screen experience and two cousins who've never written a full-length movie. I'm not talking about the content. The problems are technical. Marvel has thus far had good luck pulling in quirky or indy creators and putting them through the machine to come out with great products, but here it had the opposite effect.

They brought in Chloe Zhao to add a sense of realism, organic character work, and naturalistic location shooting. That's great. She tried. However, much of the time it looks like these actors have no idea what or in which direction they should be looking at, or how they're supposed to react. The whole opening had about as much emotion and nuance as a video game cut-scene. This is a directorial failure.

Ultimately you end up with a bunch of characters looking stoic reading lines with odd inflections. It's exactly what you'd guess would happen if someone had never directed around these types of effects, and it's even more apparent when contrasted with great scenes like being introduced to Phastos' family which is warm, serious, and funny all at the same time.

Shooting outdoors is also great, but if whoever is mixing the sound can't get around the wind it'll sound muddy. Using natural light is great, but damn if you're on a schedule and only have so many takes to get things right. This is fine if you have a simple setup, maybe not so much here.

Let's talk about the script and story. The Firpo cousins were brought in. Well, what happens when you hire someone who's never written a feature-length film and ask them to pen an epic that starts at the beginning of time? You get a disjointed mess. Leaving out that the concept of billions of years is specific to earth circling the sun and has little bearing on what a Celestial would think of as time, the entire, and I mean the entire plot hinges on a single line about how celestials need to a specific type of intelligent life to absorb or something to be born?? Why in the **** would this be the case. Please explain further.

Dialogue. This seems like a script a committee of college students would be happy with. I understand there are a lot of characters, but really having everyone say everyone else's name in every scene while reminding us about deviants just shows such a lack of faith in the audience. It also left no space for any actual conversations. In fact, the only character to seem like they had something to say and was enjoying themselves was Kuman the butler.

Further, I'm seeing posts about how this is the first Marvel movie with a sex scene, but seriously showing two character's bare shoulders and having them squeeze out the lines "I love you (full name)" then "I love you (full name)" is maybe one of the least realistic moments in a movie about ancient gods.

Seriously the longer I think about this movie the worse it is, which is such a shame because everyone involved is technically good at what they do, but together with all the money one could ask for, they made an exceptionally bad product. Heck, even the mid-credits scene made no sense. We know this is BlackKnight. We know Excaliber was on the ship, but we also know he didn't get a chance to tell anyone, so how did the sword get to him...

A lot of the negative reviews are preaching some anti-woke/anti-inclusion messaging. That's terrible and the hate is painful to read. That's not anywhere close to where I'm coming from. I'm super happy to have some thoughtful diverse adult drama mixed into my Marvel candy. However, they still need to make a good movie and this wasn't it.

Next time Marvel wants to hire the Firpos... Don't. If you want to hire Chloe Zhao, do it, but find a project actually in line with her skills as opposed to fitting it into a project like this. Oh and by the way I see a lot of people blaming Marvel for how this worked out. Make no mistake this is on her and the writers. Other teams have come in and figured and they really really didn't. Marvel on the other hand has a track record of making it work, and for all the people going to see this hoping somehow to not see a Marvel movie, what the **** are you thinking? Why are you even going to see it if you don't want to see a Marvel movie?

I wanted to watch Eternals when it first came out, but the bad reviews kind of put me off, so I thought I would wait until it was released for home viewing, so that I could watch it in peace.

I wish I hadn't bothered.

The film is terrible, the worst Marvel film ever released. Seriously, it is just as bad as everyone told me it would be.

The main thrust of the film is that we have a new team of Super Heroes, but we have never heard of them before, because they are supposed to just let things happen on earth and not get involved, for example when Thanos wiped out half the population in The Blip / The Snap, they just stood by and watched. Already I hate them. The film goes back and forth in the history of the characters, and in doing so shows them directly interfering with humanity making the whole point of them not interfering, which we are told early in the film, completely pointless.

Anyway, after getting rid of "The Deviants", weird alien creatures, they decide to live as humans for a few thousand years, and when The Deviants re-emerge, then The Eternals meet back up to take care of them. You see the Eternals are old, very old, God like figures, but they are not really Gods, they were created by alien, God like creatures, so really, they are synthetic life forms. The Deviants were created first by the God like aliens, as a way to destroy life on the planet, so that more intelligent life could evolve in its place. The Deviants then evolve themselves, and start killing intelligent life, so The Eternals are created to take care of The Deviants. The story is so convoluted and ridiculous, and full of holes, and because anyone who is not a comic book nerd, will have no idea who any of the multitude of characters are, they have to tell these deep stories about each of them.

Unlike previous Marvel films that would take one character at a time, before throwing them all into a film together, this film does the opposite and it suffers for it.

And then there are the characters themselves. This is a 100% woke tick box effort. Think of a minority, and it will be represented badly here. Never has a film shoved down your throat so many woke cliches in one go.

With all that said, Richard Madden as Ikaris is a decent character, he should have been allowed his own film, instead of just being thrown into this. Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak is likeable, and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena is also interesting. But these three are interesting in part because they are recognisable actors, so carry that gravitas with them. The rest of the characters are instantly forgettable and rather unlikeable. And in many ways The Deviants were actually helping stop the destruction of the planet, by eating people and keeping the population down!

Ever notice how the bad guys in Marvel films are always the ones saving the planet through depopulation? They are the Bill Gates of the Marvel Universe!

The Good
This is a tough one. Angelina Jolie's suit is nice.

The Bad
EVERYTHING. The fact this film has made a profit is purely down to it being a Marvel film and that having some good will with fans, but a lot of that will be lost after this film. Poor direction, uninspiring dialog, shoehorned in woke scenes, nonsensical plot points.

Overall
2 and a half hours I will never get back. The worst Marvel film ever made. Simple as that.

I score Eternals 3/10. A point for Richard Madden, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie, of whom I am fans of all three. But to be honest I would rather see them in Bruce Willis' next B movie than this rubbish.

Very few redeeming features about this film, it’s very boring, the deviants are just not exciting to see on screen and are built up for seemingly no reason. Acting all seems subpar or characters undeveloped… which is strange because there are some big names in the movie, definitely needed to be split into two movies tbh.

The visuals however, are great, and there are a few individual moments that are good throughout the movie.

Not good i'm afraid, it has all the flaw of a "bad" superheroes movie.
1) Cast selected from other notorious Nerd likable production .
2) Predictable plot, that manage to be over compicated at the same time. 3) Stiff and slow action scenes

1) Cast selected from other notorious Nerd likable production .
2) Predictable plot, that manage to be over compicated at the same time.
3) Stiff and slow action scenes with too much (bad) cgi and slowmotion
4) Invasive politically correct insertion that are poorly excecuted and became irritating instead of inclusive
5) Lots of Heroes and Villans ... but most of them are just in the background and have zero personality or distinctive charateristic (except from ethnicity)
6) Very different from the source material
7)Legions of un-intelligent enemy monster minions..with generic look
8)Lens flares everywere

It has some quality though: It is a "serious" movie (it isn't a comedy like Thor Ragnarock 4 example) and to undersand it you you don't need to watch other 10 Marvel movies or TV show.

To sum up a super heroes movie that looks like it was filmed and scripped for television in the nineties (when they treated comic book and superheroes movie like a low budget, childish product).

Amazing how something so epic can be so dull. Stories like these should be left in previous centuries. Unrelatable, dispassionate, and impersonal quest for the status quo.

The Eternals are basically useless bunch of incompetents who's only superpower is that they don't age. And even Hawkeyes daughter could easily kill them with a single arrow.
And yeah sure it is totally believable that a cosmic "super eternal super being" who can't die.....ehmm...age, and has some super powers is suffering from physical flaws like......can't speak, and has hearing aid? WTF man? Who wrote this movie? But hey at least they could mark 2 checklist items for the requirements of the oscar nominations: "At least 30% of all actors in secondary and more minor roles are from at least two of the following underrepresented groups: - LGBTQ+
- People with cognitive or physical disabilities, or who are deaf or hard of hearing"
I think we can all agree that with the death of Tony Stark, the MCU died too. All they released since that, is garbage.

Eternals is what I fear will be just the first example of the decline of the MCU. Slow, dull, and overly long without a single compelling performance. Expand

Esta película me ha hecho entender que la directora tuvo su Oscar solo por cumplir una cuota, no puedo creer lo mal que va, ciertamente me quedé dormido un rato... Muy aburrida

Just when the movie seems to be ending, since it should have done so 45 minutes ago, another fight scene starts. The acting is poor and whatever the actors were paid it was too much. Don't people in Hollywood watch movies after they are made and realize how bad they are? The ending leaves a opening for a sequel, but hopefully none will ever be made. Expand

The movie fails to keep the story together and I found myself frequently bored. The filming is jumpy and unsatisfying. The actors did well with what they were given! But the directing and writing were terrible.

Eternal Borefest!!!! Glad didn't watch this in the cinema. After the highs of Endgame, looks like the inevitable downward spiral at the MCU have begun with Phase 4

L’idée est bonne mais tout est gâché avec la wokitude au niveau 10’0000…. En 2 minutes de films, je n’étais déjà plus immergé dans l univers.
