Finally a serious movie in the MCU, after years of Disney **** full of cringe humor and nazi-feminism, it was a great challenge to make a movie with 10 protagonist and the risk of not developing them was high, the director made a great workFinally a serious movie in the MCU, after years of Disney **** full of cringe humor and nazi-feminism, it was a great challenge to make a movie with 10 protagonist and the risk of not developing them was high, the director made a great work with the characters.
Actions scenes clean and amazing, the score FINALLY it's not **** trap/rap or stupid pop bull**** but a serious and deep score.
For me this movie don't reach the 10 score because of the wasted Deviant villain: He become powerful, learn to speak and then...die...like an idiot; for me the only low point of the movie, but the rest is amazing.
Great ending with logical sense: You can't fool a god without punishment so well, that's an original and very cool ending… Expand

Very good film. I love that it breaks away from the usual mold of marvel films to tell a much different story of an unusual family. I've never made a review on Metacritic here, so apologies if I'm not succinct. Anyways, I left the movie theater genuinely wondering if I had seen the same movie as critics. The flashbacks, when we had them, were coherent and clearly marked for audiences, making the plot more than easy to follow. I don't often disagree with critics, and when I do I can typically still see why they see the movies the way they do. But I GENUINELY cannot even fathom why this movie was panned the way it was. It is excellent. Character writing and cinematography is excellent. The story is, as I said, quite coherent, and is even engaging and enjoyable for audiences. The humor is great and doesn't overplay itself, and the relationships between each character is clear - no Eternal feels unimportant to the story (except for perhaps Makkari, which is unfortunate given her character was a blast). It does well to tease the future of the MCU, and it's the best movie in Phase 4 thus far.… Expand

It's beautiful and I'm sure most will like it. I think the pace was fine, the story starts quickly without too much introduction. At no point it felt slow or boring to me, there are no notable filler scenes and everything is there for something or for the characters' development, there is always something new to discover, a surprise or a twist. It kept always interesting to me. Wasn't expecting it but has a lot of action, although it works really well with the story and doesn't feel unnecessary.

It definitely falls outside the Marvel formula, it has a different and much more mature tone without childish jokes, although it's still funny and made me laugh (and my theater) several times. It's normal to forget that you are watching an MCU movie, it happened to me most part of it. It may not be everyone's taste but at least to me and my friends who watched it, it was pretty good.

It's a thought provoking movie, it doesn't tell you what's right or who the villain is, it's up to you from the perspective you want to take. Still considered the story is very clear and I don't think it's messy. I think what stands out the most is characters' development, they all are interesting and relatable, they have flaws as well.

I also didn't pay much attention to it because I was hooked on the story but it's visually stunning. The soundtrack is beautiful. The cast is perfect and they are very talented, every scene looks natural, and without question Chloe Zhao's direction is great. I really want to watch the film again.

I feel like it lacked something but not sure what, maybe it's because I had very high expectations but I'd give it 9/10.… Expand

Genuinely such a brilliant movie, with complex and interesting characters and a compelling plot, the visuals alone are stunning. Eternals is one of my favourite MCU movies of all time. The movie does an incredible job of giving the sense that gigantic concepts are being executed on the screen both metaphorically and literally. Finally! This is the type of movie I’ve been waiting for from the MCU. The movie had me glued. Even though there are 10 characters, I feel like Chloe Zhao was able to portray each character phenomenally without it feeling like it’s too muchFinally! I thought Eternals was one of the best MCU movies to date. While pace was slow at times I actually found myself appreciating that, as so many MCU movies move at breakneck speeds, unnecessarily and usually at the expense of the story’sI thought Eternals was one of the best MCU movies to date. While pace was slow at times I actually found myself appreciating that, as so many MCU movies move at breakneck speeds, unnecessarily and usually at the expense of the story’s development. In Eternals Zhao let’s us sit with the complexities of the narrative unfolding before us. We spend much of the movie seeing just how human these demigods have become during their journey on earth. The story is ambitious to try and tell in the timeframe of a single movie, but it’s executed with clarity. Themes of ethics, creation, human experience, free will all play out in deep ways (even more-so than in other MCU films). This is a deep thinking superhero film, similar to Nolan’s Batman series, which might be why reviews have been sub-par. People seem to just want to be entertained at movies these days. Less explosions and a film that really challenges the viewer alongside its characters.… Expand

I am honestly in shock- Am I missing something? Do I have bad taste? Because honest to God, I really enjoyed this movie and its not the worst MCU movie by a long, long shot. This movie has been thrown so much hate that I went with lowI am honestly in shock- Am I missing something? Do I have bad taste? Because honest to God, I really enjoyed this movie and its not the worst MCU movie by a long, long shot. This movie has been thrown so much hate that I went with low expectations and came out extremely surprised.

For starters, is this movie really that different to other Marvel movies? Because to me, it fits quite naturally to the normal shemes and formulas of the others; with serious tones accompanied of funny breaks to lighten up the experience. Kumail Nanjiani´s character in this regard is a complete stand out along side his cameraman with scenes that honestly made me laugh quite frequently.

The characters for that matter, are all really fun to watch, all with unique habilties and personalities that make the dinamics between them quite interesting. I loved how they differ from one another and not all of them are crystal blue perfect. The big threat of the movie for instance involves a big moral consideration that not all of them can agree upon. In this regard, the movie does cover new unforseen ground in the MCU - I think my girlfriend said it best: This heroes are no loger straightforward in their believes and purpose but in this case morally gray, and that was very cool to follow.

Additionally, Eternals is beautiful to look at. Director Chloe Zhao is known for her beautiful direction and ability to portray big and expansive landscapes and such was still the case with this movie. Some of the scenes, specially the ones involving some past events with past civilizations where jaw dropping to look at.

Whatsmore, the action scenes were extremelely cool. Imagine a group of 10 very powerful people with very different powers all using their unique habilities in tandem againts an enemy or even against eachother- it all looks just as cool as it sounds. Standouts here are Angelina Jolie's Thena with spectacular acrobatics(she looks really cool), Lauren Ridloff´s Makkari with probably the coolest scenes and effects we have seen portrayed on a speedster-like character and Richard Madden´s Superman like character that just looks really cool.

Finally, this is probably the one movie with the biggest implications for the MCU universe as whole outside of Endgame; expanding even further our undestanding of how these worlds exist, work and the overall bigger threats that lurk within. For the first time in Phase 4 I feel excited for whats to come outside of our regular earthly heroes.

I really do not know what happened with the critics this time around. I say, go watch it.… Expand

It's got plenty of bum notes, but if you can set aside what's awkward about the movie and instead champion it for everything it does right, there's an interesting film here. There's a lot of lore to decompress into this story, and I think the writers did a great job of moving things along. I highly recommend seeing it in IMAX because it often fills the full screen with stunning images. I'm at a 7.5 on this but I could go higher if it stands up upon a re-watch.… Expand

And the ending was muddled. I still don’t entirely understand how they killed that eternal. But otherwise, the movie is fine. It has a clear plot and fairly well defined characters. I think this movie may suffer from over expectations. There’s no way this movie is the worst. I’d give it a B or 85 out 100.… Expand

I enjoyed this rather different take on superhero films. Really made you think about humanities purpose amongst all these god-like heroes and villains. I don't read the comics so the big plot reveal was wonderfully unexpected. TheI enjoyed this rather different take on superhero films. The cinematography is top-notch and the sets and locations are gorgeous. One of the better looking films from the MCU.

The common complaints seem to be the casting and the pacing. I can't agree with those complaints. All the actors are pleasant and do a fine job and the film had me entertained for the entire runtime. The script has a nice balance of actions scenes and plot exposition mixed in with low-key reflective humour. It's not for adrenaline junkies but its not a snoozefest either. It's somewhere in the middle.

It's a worthy addition to the MCU. I'm happy to have seen it and hope to see more like it.… Expand

It's a very nice movie. It's on my top 5 MCU movies. Every scene has a good explanation, the fights are brutal and no one is safe. It's a little bit long and in the beginning the film is tiring in some parts.

A lot of things happen in this movie. It sometimes hard to process each revelation as they happen. This movie is undeniably different from the other mcu titles. I really enjoyed Eternals. The narrative and world-building were great. Coupled with unprecedented imagery for both quiet scenes and action scenes. Indeed, one can argue that some dialogue was repetitive and not really necessary, but for the main characters, Ikaris and Sersi, delving into their world through dialogue is inevitable. Sure, it's a long movie that requires us casual viewers to unpack a lot. In fact, you meet 10 characters plus a small love story plus several historical scenes, which has to be digested at first, but in my opinion, is very well done and presented. The chemistry between the characters as a family was easy to see. It's also funny, I really had to laugh at some of the scenes. The final fight was really awesome, as also mentioned by some in the panel. In a nutshell:
Storytelling and Worldbuilding: 3/5 Story: 3.5/5 Action: 3.5/5 Visuals: 5/5 sound design: 5/5 character design: 4/5 Fun: 4/5 Implications for the current MCU: 5/5

So, it's a solid 4 out of 5 ≈ 80%.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Eternals is a movie that will get more respect and appreciate over the time. Although I'd personal liked some parts of the movie, it still has some major flaws which pulled this film from being a masterpiece.
I'll go through things that I liked and then move to ones I didn't care about.
Okay, right from the beginning, this movie is just gorgeous. The cinematography is spectacular - every location is unique and unbelievable beautiful. The action scenes, though there were only three of major ones, were great, entertaining and kept me at the edge of seat. The characters were all amazing and the acting was absolutely fantastic across the board. My favourite character in this film was Thena played by Angelina Jolie. Once again Jolie proves that she always understands the assignment. She had the depth that her character needed. Thena's fight scene with Ikaris was just BOMBASTIC! Loved her and all that she did in this movie. My second favourite character is Makkari. Loved her CGI effects and her personality. My third and fourth favorite characters are Sersi and Phastos. Loved them both, especially Phastos at the end, we he was fight against Ikaris with Thena and Makkari. Sersi was great aswell, though I would've loved to see what she is capable of doing and maybe her powers should've been explored more. I also found Ajack to be pretty interesting, but I was disappointed that she died very early in the film. Ikaris was great both as a protagonist and antagonist. I think that he was just too overpowered. Kingo and Gilgamesh were both fine, didn't care about either of them. Sprite was the least character in my opinion. I tried to relate to her, but just couldn't do that, and her love-thing with Ikaris was just uncomfortable to watch. Now let's talk about things that I didn't care about. Sadly, the story is the first thing in this list. It was messy and had too many time jumps which were poorly made. Also it had too much exposition. Plus some of the plot details were just too confusing for a standard MCU viewer aka casual audience. The story also had too much drama and too much talking. The love triangle didn't work at all, because I couldn't see nor believe that there was something between Sersi and Ikaris or Sersi and Dane therefore it completely failed in delivering any emotional weight.
The origin of eternals was just too confusing. The film didn't have enough action scenes to keep movie from being boring and tedious at the times. At the end, even with all its flaws, Eternals is a solid MCU film with gorgeous cinematography and great action scenes. Plus, it succeeded in making diversity a natural part of the movie - nothing was forced and none of the characters were special because of it. I'd say that the film is a 8/10 for me. It unfairly has the lowest RT score, but I hope that the audience will save this film from being a flop.… Expand

· Cosas buenas: La narrativa, se nota que Zhao saber hacer bien las cosas, visualmente es una locura, algunos personajes son maravillosos, quiero más, el mensaje que da es necesario, la película en sí tiene un tono diferente a las demás y, lo más obvio, el reparto no tiene sentido.
· Cosas malas: Es evidente que no es una película de superhéroes al uso, y puede que el tipo de narración se te haga lenta, además, el último cuarto de película pierde algo de fuelle, sobre todo el clímax.
· Conclusión: Era una película muy difícil de hacer, para mí, muy bien resuelta, es verdad que toca demasiados palos, pero lo hace muy bien, no entiendo la crítica en absoluto, no es lo mismo de siempre, y eso se agradece.… Expand

This film is gorgeous. The cinematography is absolutely breathtaking and Ramin Djwadi’s score really brings this story to life. I think this movie deserves every bit of praise it gets, but it also deserves some of the criticism as well. Well worth the price of admission, but just know this is not going to be a movie for everyone.… Expand

It was about all new characters so there was a lot to learn all at once, but I felt Zhao did a good job introducing them, and by the time it was done I wanted to spend more time with some of them for sure.

Much better than the average critic reviews would lead you to believe. I think in a few years, when people look back at this movie they'll be able to appreciate it more. Definitely worth seeing in the theater.… Expand

Eturnals is ambitious. It doesn't follow the same mold as outher marvels movies and does something different and I appreciate it for that. I loved it! The characters were all likable, the cast had great chemistry, the actors all did amazing, and the cinematography was gorgeous! Things were a little bit squashed, meaning the characters didn’t all get the amount of deeperI loved it! Things were a little bit squashed, meaning the characters didn’t all get the amount of deeper characterization that I had hoped for, but for as much content that was put into this film, I’d say Zhao did a good job with what she was working with. Plus, the diversity in this film is so important to so many people. As a woman it’s amazing to see women in the lead, and as a gay person I can’t tell you how excited I was when Phastos and his husband, Haaz, kissed (the first in the MCU) I got such a warm feeling in my heart! I look forward to more representation in the future!… Expand

If you were searching for a typical Marvel movie you must not watched the Eternals. This movie is clearly heading the MCU in a new direction ! Maybe the movie was a bit long but it was needed to presents us the 10 amazing characters that isIf you were searching for a typical Marvel movie you must not watched the Eternals. This movie is clearly heading the MCU in a new direction ! Maybe the movie was a bit long but it was needed to presents us the 10 amazing characters that is this found family (recurent theme of the movie). Great Job of Chloe Zhao to make us fall in love with those new heroes and anti-heroes on a such short notice! The eternals is a slow movie, celebrating the humanity of our planet. The scenarist and most of the characters decided to see the best in humans which is rare. Even tho the movie may seemed rough or messy at some point, it's an enjoyable movie with amazing CGI and natural landscapes. Bonus points to mythological reference and Ramin Djawadi's composition !
Minus point for the slowness or rather the will to linger on certain feelings or characters

Dont get me started on the beautiful and long-awaited representation of the movie !… Expand

Visually stunning with equitable character development for most of those we are introduced to, the film is a new style and direction for Marvel. The story is a bit long, but still entertaining and puts a new spin on superhero action films.

Yes, it’s a slight deviation from Marvel movies of recent years but it was a good watch with lots of twists and expands the MCU further. A bold step by Marvel and director Chloe Zhao. The end credits was even better with the teasers of earth-dwelling heroes (Black Knight and Blade) and space-dwelling characters (Starfox and Pip).… Expand

Let me start by saying that I understand why this is the most polarizing Marvel movie made to date. I won't even try to guess how you as the viewer might feel. Most Marvel movies are made to be broadly appealing. This movie was not. ThisLet me start by saying that I understand why this is the most polarizing Marvel movie made to date. I won't even try to guess how you as the viewer might feel. Most Marvel movies are made to be broadly appealing. This movie was not. This movie has flaws and these flaws will completely ruin the movie for many of you. Others will notice these flaws but will ultimately find the movie enjoyable because it does have many redeeming qualities. It comes down to whether or not the style of the movie is your thing. I happen to be in the category of people who enjoyed it, despite its flaws. Cinematography: Amazing. Soundtrack: Really Solid. Characters: I loved Makkari, Phastos, Kingo, Karun (Kingo's valet), Dane Whitman, Gilgamesh and Druig. I want sure I liked Druig at first but he grew on me and by the end he was one of my favorites. Makkari fight scenes were epic. Best speedster representation ever in my opinion. Thena, Ikaris, Sprite, Sersei and Ajak had their moments but I didn't consistently connect with them. Something felt off about Sersei and Ikaris' chemistry. Dane and Sersei had better chemistry but even some of their back and forth felt stilted Plot: Some good spots, some weak points. Deviants plot line wasn't great. They felt like they didn't really have a purpose other than to be fought. I thought the movie started slow but actually got better throughout. CGI was great throughout with two exceptions: the airplane scene and the 1 character in the mid-credits scene. That was weird… I feel like Eternals will end up being the Avengers Age of Ultron the next phase. It tries to be really big and to do a lot, it pulls some of it off, and it will be really important to the future. This could have been better as two movies, or a TV show, or even if some of the characters had been introduced in prior films. Anything that could have let the story breathe a bit more would have helped. Getting to know this many characters and their motivations all in one movie is a tough task. Some wooden acting and questionable character motivations took me out of the moment a couple times. But I absolutely think the movie accomplished what it set out to do. I enjoyed the slower pacing and emotional/philosophical elements. In short, it's a well-made, entertaining movie that ultimately accomplishes what it sets out to do, even if the path to get there was a little bumpy. Overall: 7.75 / 10… Expand

There's an ethereal feel to the film and the Eternals although we're superior brought a sense of humanity to the story. Really liked that it doesn't feel comicky. I didn't have high hopes for this movie, since I didn't expect the MCU to take a turn like this for phase 4, but the scope and vastness of the movie truly takes the next step for the marvel universe. I only had a basic understanding of the comics prior to watching this, so I did some quick skimming before watching the film. To put simply, the storyline was well put, even though the back-and-forth pacing between timelines could've been exhausting if it kept going any further. CGI was well polished, and I must say, the Celestials looked really well done and visualized. Of course, Marvel always had to put in some comedy here and there, which wasn't excessive and was good. I know everyone has their own respectful opinions, but to me, this movie is a good example of why you shouldn't always (and probably never) trust critic reviews, since they are typically picky when it comes to films involving specific cinematic universes. This truly does take the next step into expanding the universe!… Expand
