Still trying to wrap my head around this one for better or worse. Directed by Sam Raimi (director of the original Spider-Man trilogy of all people), Dr. Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) find himself thrust into the multiverse as he tries to protect a young multiverse jumper (Xochitl Gomez) from a possessed and deranged Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) whose Scarlet Witch persona has taken over her mind. Just when you thought things couldn't get much tripier than the first Doctor Strange film, along comes this one to throw everything that film had to offer, along with the rest of the MCU as a whole into complete disarray. This film is quite a mess, and not exactly a good one either sadly. While it surprisingly didn't overindulge on fan service too much with the exception of a very particular sequence towards the middle of the film that is sure to please several eager fans holding out hope for certain cameos, the story itself is still so scattershot and all over the place from start to finish that it becomes almost headache-inducing to follow. There's very little in the way of character/story development here as well. Furthermore, this is EASILY what I'd consider to be both the darkest and even most violent MCU film to date, with several uncalled for brutal and violent deaths that left me with a very bad taste in my mouth, as well as several frightening/jump scare moments straight out of a horror film, which makes sense considering this is Raimi we're talking about here. He's come a long way from his 'Evil Dead' films, but nonetheless manages to incorporate their atmosphere and style into this, but it just doesn't seem to fit or vibe well with a Marvel superhero film in my opinion. Performance-wise Cumberbatch of course once again nails the role he was born to play here, and even Elizabeth Olsen is in top form and creepy as hell here. Several of her scenes in particular are sure to serve as nightmare fuel for several people! Newcomer Gomez also turns in a great performance here, and returning cast members from the first film, such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams are also great! Unfortunately, none of them really helped me enjoy this cluster of a film much more. Overall, it's not particularly inspired, and the story/concept is a mess, but it still nonetheless gives an interesting idea of what direction things might go in the MCU from here when all's said and done. Whether that direction is good or bad is beyond me though, and I still consider this a rare misstep within the MCU. It left me feeling exasperated moreso than exhilarated by the end of it. Expand

Marvel has finally implied some horror elements when needed. That was mostly the reason for a quite tense atmosphere in the movie and still it has had the classic marvel jokes in it. The soundeffects and the graphics were great as always.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I freaking love it! I expected a Doctor Strang movie and i got it, very satisfied. I think people expected it to be very different hence the dissappointment. It's because of so many rumors about the XMen, Tom Cruise, SpiderMan, Deadpool, etc., and getting none of it. They prolly didn't like how the illuminati got disposed off just like that because the scarlet witch was too OP. Definitely want to see it again. Expand

Unexpected chars with the very strange movie theme

About the chars, we already knew if Marvel Studio really worked hard to develop audience satisfaction and loyalty. Unexpected chars?! It’s a must for Marvel movies! However, this movie is very strange for the superhero theme caused by the “apocalyptic zombie” ambiance. The strangeness of Dr. Strange's movie. This ambiance felt very strange for superhero movies which are they’re recently focused on children's segment and happiness themes. This movie is living proof if they want to bring a “dark” movie theme again – since Blade, Daredevil, Elektra, and The Punisher. They hope the strange theme is plausible for Doctor Strange. Maybe, they thought it was the time to join the competitive segment of the dark theme superhero, like the success of DC Comic through The Batman (2022).

The main plot is Dr. Strange forced to save a kiddo girl from being chased by a catastrophic enemy to kill her and absorb her power. This leads to adventurous trips to multiverses of the world. The pros of this movie are very incredible visuals, great moral value, and entertainment. Those three are a must for Marvel superhero movies. If need more satisfaction, this movie provides a new storyline and unexpected chars that maybe could be synchronized with another movie. Somehow, this is really providing satisfaction because we’re really curious and can’t wait about what is to come. Besides all of the pros, everything is just of standard quality. However, the biggest cons are very strange movie themes. “Apocalyptic zombie” is really vividly narrated through the end of the story. It’s really gross for me. Sadly, there is another disappointment which is the weak movie plot. Tbh, I didn’t really convince enough about why trade many lives to save one life? Another odd plot is there’s a bunch of chars that narrated as the great leaders but they just came in a glimpse and vanished. What is the actual point to show them in screen time? Lastly, Marvel Studios already pointed out their American political issue which brings very popular themes – American pride, LGBTQ, and Illuminati. This theme is very vividly but subtle through a char name, costume, and direct story.

Overall, in my personal POV, I really get annoyed with the “Apocalyptic zombie” theme but I'm satisfied with the unexpected chars. I thought it was so-so quality, but this movie is still good to watch. If u are really Marvel fans, it’s a must to see this movie to guess what is the actual grand storyline in the future. If u aren’t, this movie is still good to see because we could really enjoy it as newcomers that didn’t know anything about Marvel.

Streamers do not get me wrong by the title… the movie is madness alright but it’s just that much more murderous! Welcome back and to the long-awaited review for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You’ve got it this weekend Dr. StrangeStreamers do not get me wrong by the title… the movie is madness alright but it’s just that much more murderous! Welcome back and to the long-awaited review for Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. You’ve got it this weekend Dr. Strange 2 was finally released and MCU fans can finally let a sigh of relief taht the MCU Phases are still coming hot and fresh and all new tricks.

my biggest issue with the movie is that it glosses over the connection to No Way Home. It felt as if that was no significant or consequential time in the MCU. I mean Dr. Strange is pompous and flippant but it felt sooooooo … idk. And quite early in the movie he makes a decision that just seems so careless and devil may care attitude. It felt a bit weird. Other than that I felt the movie moved a bit too fast but I do appreciate the under 2 hour runtime. Under two hours and it felt like things were just moving so quickly. ALmost feels like you missed something and have to see it again. Quite refreshing i must admit and I do plan on seeing this again in short order. But let’s get to the good.

The movie is wild. The qualify this as madness and it was but it was even more so murderous. I mean from the trailer you can see how everything is literally unraveling on the screen, but the full movie takes it up a notch. The thing I’m most pleased by is that the trailer seems to show so much but the movie has so much more left in the tank. I was quite frightened this was just going to be What If come to live action. And while this movie definitely, touches What if tones, they are not derivative. I should’ve had more faith in Sam Raimi, Disney and Kevin Feige that they wouldn’t let us down. On top of that, the cast doesn’t let us down either. Benedict is all over and manages to keep his head straight. Elizabeth Olsen continues her great performance from WandaVision and really doubles down on the mad in this one. The newcomer who plays America Gomez, doesn’t add much but let’s see what we get from her character in the future. And all of the extra cast play their roles to a T. Was it all perfect? no. the directors or editors might have missed or should’ve used other takes but interestingly enough that makes me want to see the deleted scenes from this movie. They definitely whittled this movie down to be what it was which makes me think what crazy things didn’t make the cut.

All in all, I couldn’t imagine seeing Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness not on a big screen. The MCU put a ton of money, effort, and thought into the effects, cast, fanfare, etc. for this movie. Is it perfect? No. Will you be severely entertained and possibly grossed out or scared? Yes. You’re left thinking how and when does this fit io the bigger universe and what’s next! Grab a big box of popcorn and chow down as you enjoy this mad dash through the multiverse and MCU.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Scarlet Witch has to be one of my favourite characters, and after Wandavision I thought they were finally going to give her the spotlight she deserves in the MCU.

The movie itself was disjointed, a majority of it unimportant, and literally just felt like a sequel the Wandavision. What was the point of the Minotaur? Why was Professor X in the Illuminati? Why did all it take in the end was to tell America ‘you got this girl’? Why didn’t anyone try that before?? Why did they lean so heavily into the comparison between Wanda and Dr Strange when there wasn’t one? This movie was so full of plot holes, and unimportant scenes, that I can’t even list them all. I just kept waiting for the movie to start, and then it ended.

The addition of Raimi-signature sequences that break the current mood (despair, excitement, happiness) really did break the cohesion of the movie, and did not serve the movie well. Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and the rest of the cast did a really good job trying to elevate the movie, but the over-all sloppy direction, and mixed bag with outside-of-the-MCU-formula approach did little to make an enjoyable sequel to the well-received origin of Dr. Strange. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the movie was pretty average, I didn’t really see growth in Strange’s character as he asks the question “are you happy?” But doesn’t really come to a conclusion. I have more qualms with the movie but that would be nit picky. My major problem is that I’m not a big fan of Sam Raimi’s directive style so this movie wasn’t really made for me, but all in all it’s a really enjoyable film and I think it’s a good watch. Expand

also powerful WAMEN villain's can't be defeated, they need to concede defeat themselves and give-up, the movie is DOC STRANGE and he doesn't defeat the villian, she just gives up at the end

God, rarely have I found myself so bored at the theater.

For a film franchise that has sometimes been criticized for feeling more like television, never has a Marvel film felt it to this degree before. The whole thing feels like a middling episode of a Sci-Fi Channel Original Series with just exposition piled upon exposition piled on exposition. There is little here resembling any kind of emotional storytelling or humanity, just borderline incomprehensible plot threads to set up other Marvel movies. If you like soy banter instead of anything resembling character development then this is the movie for you.

If you were hoping that Sam Raimi, arguably the best filmmaker to ever work in this franchise, could bring his identity to the Marvel machine, I regret to inform you that the scoreboard reads “Disney 1, Raimi 0”. Sure, there’s some of Raimi’s dutch angles and signature dolly zooms here to remind you he’s still involved but that’s about where it ends. (Ok, actually there is one very funny Bruce Campbell cameo, the only genuine laugh in the film)

Even the much teased Marvel cameos, that now seem like the new direction for this franchise, completely fall flat as it serves little purpose beyond waving a bright shiny new toy in front of your face.

Somehow even worse than I thought it’d be, terrible start to summer movie season

Enough that it truly shocked my wife and I. The plot jumped so much that it was hard to invest any emotion into the story and characters after all that we already knew about them. It was obvious they thought new hero Amerika Chavez would carry the movie and take the mantle, but this was not so. She came off as more of a bratty teenager who barely even seemed to belong in this universe until the very end. Long time comic fans will not buy into her forced sense of inclusion. A new team is introduce, and basically discarded shortly after they are introduced. Why do that? Didn't even try to build on any of their characters. Also, this movie presented a great opportunity to introduce a new super villain. Sadly, there wasn't one. The entire movie just seemed very cardboard cutout -ish, and lacked the polish we've come to expect from Marvel and Disney movies. It seemed rushed and thrown together with the simple goal of being a quick cash grab. Definitely a step backwards in my view. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It isn’t good. The writing and CGI are atrocious. The CGI looks like it was ripped straight from a video game. The characters are all morons without a shred of personality + life to them. The story is hard to follow as well. The film doesn’t utilize the multiverse to its fullest potential, which is unfortunate. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Invincible, and Everything Everywhere All At Once are the movies and comics that all use the multiverse closer to its fullest potential. Doctor Strange 2 sips from the fountain of the multiverse while the others gulp a big glass of it. I don’t recommend Doctor Strange 2. Extra: Black Bolt was too eager to speak (he hates doing so) and his design did not translate well to live action. I didn’t like Captain Marvel speaking for him, either. Medusa, his queen, is the one who does that. Expand

But that's where it kind of ended for me. The music was good, but nothing that made me sit my ass down. The action scenes were great too, but then again, there have been better ones in Marvel. It was the story that took the biggest hit. It's pretty weak in my opinion, and unfortunately, this vice is starting to repeat itself. I first noticed this with Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it didn't matter in the finale, because it was all taken care of by a trio of our favorite Spider-Men who pulled the whole movie off, and besides, the action was on another level with better music. I actually noticed this earlier with Venom: Let There Be Carnage, where it just didn't quite work out. Then after a while came the failed Morbius and now this. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came out even better thanks to its aforementioned visuals, which made the film interesting. Otherwise, it would probably have been above average. It's a shame. I understand that they want to show us something grandiose in the form of effects at every corner, but we shouldn't forget about the quality of the plot, which I don't think is bad here, but definitely weaker compared to other Marvel movies. Historically, this has been done in Avengers: Infinity War, for example, where action and good looks were plentiful while not forgetting a good plot with a good story. Here, it went a bit to hell for me as far as the writing goes, and in my opinion, that's the biggest minus of the new Doctor Strange. For me, a good movie that I recommend more to just the bigger fans of the Marvel world. For the average viewer, I would only recommend this movie if they want some eye candy and aren't looking for a deeper plot. Expand

I really can’t see myself being excited to go see a Marvel film any time soon, and I honestly agree (with whoever I’ve seen mention this) that the MCU might have reached its peaked with Infinity War/Endgame.

Oh, and absolutely no need to wait for the second post credit scene if you see this at the cinema. I mean that.

Again, neither Raimi nor the actors are to blame. Expand

Although I can understand some of this movies criticism, I felt it established the plot pretty well and sequence to sequence, we understood where this movie was going. That doesn't make it predictable, that's just good writing. The cheesy lines where a nice touch and didn't over do it. Movie did leave a few questions unanswered but judging the movie as a whole, it was very enjoyable and the cameos where awesome. Some scenes left my jaw dropped and others had me enticed. The decisions made with Wanda are a little jarring at first but make for a less predictable movie in the long run.

I loved seeing America a Chávez get introduced to the MCU and cannot wait to see what she has to offer in the future.

Made an account just so you all know this

I LOVED original Dr strange (right below Cpt America-not including the Avengers movies). Why? Because they told the story for what they were. No woke. No agenda behind the story. Just a great story for what they were (until later were they actually did started to do all this). Anyhow, this movie was....well a bit meh. Really I should give it a 5, but some of the cinematography, music, and SOME of the cgi was good. So, extra point. But, that's where it stops. The acting, besides Dr strange and Scarlett, was just overacted and kinda tropey. Did I mention woke? Yep, now it's not in the background-it part of the story. When this is introduced, I literally hear people in the audience either laugh (as well as I did along a "u gotta be kidding me"), snicker, or comment "of course." Does Disney not get it? Yes. We ALL know you're "woke," but does it always have to be a point of contention in movies now? Cam we just have great storytelling (and acting) without this being a thing. Did I mention? Woke. The males (including Strange) are either dumb, underpowered, or have little to no use. Girl power? GIRL POWER ALL THE WAY.....so sick of it. All the girls are apparently the strongest in the whole movie. Gotta be kidding me.... ALMOST FORGOT....plot holes KILL any sense of urgency. Shame. just wait for it until D+ streams it. Maybe then it will be worth it. So sad. I should know better than to expect anything else from disney messing with stories for agenda's sake.

Raimi hasn't made a movie in a long time, and I think it shows... and I think the story also made very corrosive choices. Don't get me started on the dark strange battle - and the final end-credit scene (which I'm sure is Raimi's thumbing his nose at Marvel and Disney... but more importantly it showed how little respect he had for us the viewers). When comparing it with it's predecessor (which is already a fanservice film in itself), this, to me, didn't feel like it hit the mark. There was just always something missing, rushed.
The new character's only development serves purely as a plot device, the cameos which were the biggest hype for the movie were criminally humilliated and underused; and the power scaling of some characters is way off than what the MCU already established. You can expect to enjoy this movie but if you had big expectations, try lowering them a bit and you'll definitely have a ride watching this, as it's another epic Marvel superhero movie.

What we have here is a black jellybean of a movie, some people are going to love it and some will absolutely hate.

Its a win for me, Raimi not only puts his stamp on it but flexes his well earned horror muscle in what will easily be the darkest MCU film to date. If you take the kids it might be a hard car ride home.

The story ticks along at a frantic pace and while it can be a little hard to take in the entirety of what is happening you will undoubtedly feel like you have seen one of the more interesting and original story lines from an MCU film for quite some time.

I suspect this will be a film people will look back on in a few years as one of Marvels better showings.

I feel like this movie focused more on cameos and fan service than it did on good writing. It sort of gave me the vibe of watching pre-MCU superhero movies from the mid-2000's, back when they were noticeably cheesier.

That being said it's still a fun and visually-stunning movie. Doctor Strange is great. It's nice to see more of his relationship with Christine. America Chavez is sort of a meh 5/10 character who seems better suited for a MCU TV show as opposed to a main feature movie.

Ever since Endgame it feels like every movie - even standalone ones like Doctor Strange or Shang-Chi - have to involve some huge Avengers-level threat. I feel this is unnecessary, especially considering some of the best MCU movies (Captain America: Winter Solider) were much "smaller" movies. If every movie involves some colossal universe-level threat, then it won't feel that special when you try to assemble the Avengers again in the future. Why even assemble them at all? This is the 12th time the universe has been threatened just this year alone.

Just another generic marvel popcorn flick that puts fan service as a number one priority because Marvel knows that the MCU Stan’s will jerk off to it. Cameos are pointless as they just serve as a tool for the antagonist to kill off; how very thoughtful Marvel. The sequel to Doctor Strange is the great and most distinctive film of the MCU universe. It's a purely comic book movie that isn't taken seriously, and Sam Raimi has done an incredibly grotesque job here - and in my eyes, that's the only reason why the movie works so well. Without him, it would be an ordinary soulless Marvel projection. The film is not taken seriously, a hidden gem of comic book movies just like Thor Ragnarok. The work with the effects, the camera and the playfulness of the whole film is unbelievable. This is a film by Sam Raimi. And it's just your fault that you got carried away by speculation from the internet and you believed every nonsense about the film. I went to the movie with a clear head, I didn't watch the trailers, I didn't take the speculation seriously and I LOVE IT. You know, I'm sorry the movie crashes because of your mistake. It's a great film and I believe that one day it will receive a much better reception. One of the most original and fun MCU movie. The only downside is for me the misunderstanding to remove more than 40min. of the film. The beginning of the film suffers a lot from the editing. For Sam Raimi's fan 9/10. For the average viewer 7.7 / 10 just because of the editing situation. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Many female characters, everything is female - more female characters appear, then I don't know what's happening after not understanding anything, a woman appears who is more powerful than the power of a woman, there only another powerful woman to beat the powerful woman who has the most powerful power without any explanation

oh it seems like a lot of people that no one has any idea who they are and I watched the 20 MCU movies then the Character that no one knows who he is fight is louisinhas RGB here and there and the movie ends, and there's still a continuation of something that hasn't even started.

My question is?

What was this movie about?
Who are these characters that I have no idea who they are?
Why are they Fighting?
Why did a giant squid appear and then he never appeared again?

I don't know the movie I don't explain there It ends as if everything was right....???

Worst Movies I've Ever Seen in Life Trailer Deceptive , alias it shows more things in the trailer than in the movie.

They gathered a lot of people, they put Dr Strange in the middle and said Let's go, explode little thing there, put magic, put a Teenager and go

Film has no narrative, or was not edited - Manja when it's your birthday party and your aunt takes the microphone and starts singing the whole party - this is the feeling of the movie

I say more if the MCU movies are like this, I can't watch anymore

It has a lot of action and good visuals omitting a few instances of cgi that pulled me out of the movie because it looked off (think of that infamous Black Widow scene).
The plot on the other hand had a lot going on. Cameos were cool and teased heavily but suffered from a lack of pay off. So many things that were in the trailer made it seem like we were getting a different movie. Major characters that we thought would play a part wrapped up in a couple of minutes. The ending was super anticlimactic, I had such high hopes for this movie and they may have been what did it in for me. Anyone expecting a huge MCU changing movie will be left a little disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I won't be among those who seem to be forgiving most of the flaws of this film because it was directed by Sam Raimi, and while there are points where his influence is noticeable, this film is 100% Marvel.

As far as I can remember this is perhaps the first sequel that basically drops you into the story expecting you to be fully aware of everything that has happened in the MCU, mostly because it's the first of the films of Phase 4 that makes a connection with the Disney+ shows.

While this is something that is commonly understood by anyone watching a film in this franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one that has nothing, absolutely nothing to stand on its own.

Now the entertainment is still there, now more watered down but still effective to the degree to which it works, but I think Marvel's idea for this story was more of a tie-in for what's next and to give some fan service to their hardcore fanboys who now look desperate to see cameos from other franchises and of course ''new characters''. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

My biggest problem lies in trying to understand why they decided to make Wanda Maximoff the villain. I don't know if Marvel had nothing left for her after Wandavision and by the looks of it even with that bad ending, we won't be seeing her again for a while, if ever. A shame.
She was never given a chance to explode properly, even when she gets the spotlight here, she ends up relegated.

Good things and bad things, as with all MCU movies. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is not a major contribution to the saga, but gets the job done to keep the audience interested and excited, however briefly.

That being said, between this film's post-credits scene with Charlize Theron making her MCU introduction, talking about incursions, which are a big deal, and those of all the other films in this phase with the exception of Black Widow, I have no idea what Marvel Studios is up to.
Secret Wars? I don't think so. Too big, too complicated.
I guess we will find out sooner rather than later.

After seeing No Way Home, I thought that the MCU had nothing interesting to do. That may still be true, but at least I know that a director like Sam Raimi can elevate an otherwise unremarkable experience.

All the signature campiness and excellent cinematography is here, and Raimi has clearly not missed a beat in the decade since his last directing gig. The movie still suffers from what the other MCU films suffer from: bad plot devices, 2D characterization, and inconsistent logic, but I think Raimi elevates the experience in ways no factory-filmmaker could have.

The Marvel-heads that were expecting a more generic experience will be sorely disappointed.

After all the hype I left pretty disappointed. Go see Everything Everywhere All At Once instead.

Definitely the closest to R in the entire MCU and maybe the closest to R PG-13 movie ever. All that said, loved it. In my top 10 of MCU films. Expand

THe cinematography is cool and fascinating, but the story falls flat and seems to lead no where important.

Although the really liked the movie, when co.parimf it to the rest of the MCU movies, it falls into the middle of the pack. Not TOP but definitely in the TOP 20.

Frankenstein minter stitches together that uses popular more interesting characters/cameos as sacrifice to demonstrate the limitless power of Wanda (Scarlet Witch). I came to watch a Dr. Strange movie and was heavily sold that he isn’t worthy of the title of Sorcerer Supreme (Which is still held by Wong) and all these secondary characters (America Chavez, Wong, Wanda, Clea, Black Bolt etc.) are way my powerful and better. Dr. Strange was once a stand alone superheroes, but now needs a team to help him tie is own shoes because he’s such a screw up. Went to Dr. Strange and got WandaVision Season 2 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Honestly Marvel movies are so bland and crappy now I will just leave this formula here so you can make Marvel at home rather than go out for it:

Step 1: Take a popular well loved character give them their own movie but make sure they play second fiddle to literally every other character

Step 2: Introduce characters like America Chavez which no one likes or wants and skip literally 100s of better Marvel characters with decades of back stories because we gotta get in the newer woker characters

Step 3: Blow the whole budget on bad CGI throw it all over the place until no one knows whats going on and make sure if you didn't watch the previous movies/series you're extra confused (FYI I watched almost all those still didn't make sense)

Step 4: Either grab an obscure one off villain or hey to switch it up why not destroy an existing hero and give her totally wack motivations to an insane nonsensical level (Seriously I get Wanda wants her kids back but she was never this much of a psychopath before at least on purpose)

Step 5: Introduce characters people actually like such as Mr. Fantastic and Professor X. Kill them immediately god forbid they might start mansplaining or something. (Also why does Mr. Fantastic state Dr. Strange is from Earth-616? That is the comic book continuity not the MCU which is Earth-199999. Seriously Marvel you can't keep that straight how do you expect fans to?)

Step 6: have the crappy character defeat the main villain for our hero because she couldn't control her powers but Dr. Strange gave her a pep talk so shes good to go now! Also defeat is a strong word more like show her the error of her ways or some BS.

Step 7: Profit???? At least until you've sucked every last drop out of the superhero teet and the audience stops coming because all the characters they love have been pasted over by the newer woker versions. Unfortunately with each passing title it feels less Marvel and you feel the Disney claws sinking in deeper.
