Really the plot and story of this movie were confusing, and I think the main issue is Wanda. Most of her motives are just kind of weird and not all that good, just felt so loose. I also, this movie was unnecessarily creepy, like really in takes unsettling at times, which didn't feel right at all. I will say this as a positive, I kind of like the action in this movie a tab bit more than in Doctor Strange 1, but at least in that movie, the plot made sense. Overall, Multiverse Of Madness had a **** plot and motives, but good action. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not gonna lie this was one of the most mid movies I have ever seen. It was hard to follow the plot and although I like strong villains, I feel like Wanda was just too overpowered. The plot wasn't the only thing that was confusing as the strenghts of the characters were all over the place: at the start of the movie it felt like that Wanda could 1v1 Thanos with all 6 stones and at the end America was able to beat her. Bit disappointed. Expand

The film is very well directed and has really good scenes, but the script is very poor, full of conveniences, very expository and both the America's arc and Wanda's redemption arc are terrible. Horrible third act and cameos are only there to tell the fans "here's what you wanted, now that's enough". It had enormous potential, but for me, it was below what it could have been. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I won't be among those who seem to be forgiving most of the flaws of this film because it was directed by Sam Raimi, and while there are points where his influence is noticeable, this film is 100% Marvel.

As far as I can remember this is perhaps the first sequel that basically drops you into the story expecting you to be fully aware of everything that has happened in the MCU, mostly because it's the first of the films of Phase 4 that makes a connection with the Disney+ shows.

While this is something that is commonly understood by anyone watching a film in this franchise, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one that has nothing, absolutely nothing to stand on its own.

Now the entertainment is still there, now more watered down but still effective to the degree to which it works, but I think Marvel's idea for this story was more of a tie-in for what's next and to give some fan service to their hardcore fanboys who now look desperate to see cameos from other franchises and of course ''new characters''. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

My biggest problem lies in trying to understand why they decided to make Wanda Maximoff the villain. I don't know if Marvel had nothing left for her after Wandavision and by the looks of it even with that bad ending, we won't be seeing her again for a while, if ever. A shame.
She was never given a chance to explode properly, even when she gets the spotlight here, she ends up relegated.

Good things and bad things, as with all MCU movies. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is not a major contribution to the saga, but gets the job done to keep the audience interested and excited, however briefly.

That being said, between this film's post-credits scene with Charlize Theron making her MCU introduction, talking about incursions, which are a big deal, and those of all the other films in this phase with the exception of Black Widow, I have no idea what Marvel Studios is up to.
Secret Wars? I don't think so. Too big, too complicated.
I guess we will find out sooner rather than later.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pros
-A clear theme that runs through the film
-Excellent directing and CG
Cons
-A psychopathic villain who cannot understand the background story in the play and cannot empathize with the reasons for actions.
-Insult for Marvel's popular characters like Blackbolt, Professor X
-Boring action scenes (The strongest sorcerer on Earth is struggling to defeat an octopus that doesn't seem very strong. What a joke.)
-Just trying to fill holes in the plot with a multiverse

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall a disappointment. There's definitly some things to like, like adventuring through the multi verse, and Dr Strange is as charming as ever. The visuals are amazing, and it's cool to see some of the crossovers that the multi verse allows for. I really liked the advanced tech world that they showed off. But then, there are many more negative things that just destroy suspension of disbelief, so many bog standard writing cliches. For starters, the intro pulled the old, "omg, high steaks intro, lol no just a dream" cliche. Sometimes characters are stupid for no reason as part of the painfully telegraphed "horror" moments. In one scene Dr Strange and co. are running from Wanda, who is destroying blast doors 2 meters behind them, but they all stop for no reason after closing a bigger door. And it holds in silence on them just standing there doing nothing for 20 seconds. Then Wanda reappears, and they keep running. There are times when the movie tries to fake out a horrible monster right around the corner, but they try way too hard such that all fakeouts are very obvious. The movie also struggles with power creep. Wanda is plain and simple OP. However, she only uses many of her OP abilities one time and then never again for some reason. She can create entire illusory worlds around people. She can snap peoples necks remotely. She can easily make peoples mouths, and presumably noses, disappear. She can charm weak minded people. She can summon giant lovcraftian monsters to great effect. She can appear as a giant demon monster. However, she only used each of these once, and never again, except for the monsters, which she used twice in the beginning and never again. In most of her battles, she still defaults to pew pew laser bolt hands or occasionally remotely tossing people. And the ending is kinda bad. The whole movie we are told the evil book corrupts whoever uses it, but then Strange does and is fine, save a third eye. Strange at one point is losing to a mass of spirits, but then a side character reminds him that he's got magic, as if he forgot, but then he suddenly wins. The "character growth" is spoiled from the beginning of the film, so there's no real payoff. And OP Scarlet Witch is defeated by a small girl walking up and pushing Wanda through a portal, and Wanda does basically nothing to stop it. Expand

Third scene, the fight with the giant octo-squid, and the latina aka America Chavez hasn't a scratch out of it, and she's just brimming with entitled confidence. And later when Strange says "America doesn't have long" (when she's in peril) you can't help but notice the double entendre. Then there's this whole magni-terrible Scarlet Witch who's really just a sweet mom at heart so we're being schooled that even the most terrible person in the multiverse has the heart of a mom. It seems very kid-friendly Disney in its pollyannish optimism in the face of dire circumstances. The whole tunnel chase scene doesn't make sense given the magical power in play here. And there was a fair amount of magical book burning/destruction so is that book-industry messaging? Finally, how's it take three different attempts by the SW to drain America of her power - oh wow, is that a China draining America of its global power metaphor?! - over such a long period that provides enough time for Dr Strange to intervene. And these drainings apparently aren't cumulative which doesn't make sense. It's just so blatantly the-story-must-permit-the-good-guys-to-win regardless of plausibility. I'm sure if you're ages 10-15 you'll think this is just the best movie ever, but for the rest of humanity it's just CGI silliness. Tagline: I watched Multiverse of Madness and feel qualified as a family crisis counselor now. Expand

As usual, Disney knocks the main character (as long as it’s a male non-pov character) for woke points. But I’m focused on the issues with this movie. Firstly, it wiped out WandaVision in many ways. Secondly, it has and creates many plot holes. The only thing that is good here is how amazing the VFX looks in the movie. Saw it in IMAX & it is a beautiful movie. I wish it was more like the first with a singular plot. This seems to have 3 plots and then the usual tie-ins for other Marvel movies thrown in everywhere. I gave the first movie a 9. This just wasn’t as good at all. Expand

It's very much "Sam Raimi made another movie, he's milking all his tropes and we don't think anyone will care about the characters and lore being butchered in the process". I really can’t see myself being excited to go see a Marvel film any time soon, and I honestly agree (with whoever I’ve seen mention this) that the MCU might have reached its peaked with Infinity War/Endgame.

Oh, and absolutely no need to wait for the second post credit scene if you see this at the cinema. I mean that.

When comparing it with it's predecessor (which is already a fanservice film in itself), this, to me, didn't feel like it hit the mark. There was just always something missing, rushed.
The new character's only development serves purely as a plot device, the cameos which were the biggest hype for the movie were criminally humilliated and underused; and the power scaling of some characters is way off than what the MCU already established. You can expect to enjoy this movie but if you had big expectations, try lowering them a bit and you'll definitely have a ride watching this, as it's another epic Marvel superhero movie.

I feel like this movie focused more on cameos and fan service than it did on good writing. It sort of gave me the vibe of watching pre-MCU superhero movies from the mid-2000's, back when they were noticeably cheesier.

That being said it's still a fun and visually-stunning movie. Doctor Strange is great. It's nice to see more of his relationship with Christine. America Chavez is sort of a meh 5/10 character who seems better suited for a MCU TV show as opposed to a main feature movie.

Ever since Endgame it feels like every movie - even standalone ones like Doctor Strange or Shang-Chi - have to involve some huge Avengers-level threat. I feel this is unnecessary, especially considering some of the best MCU movies (Captain America: Winter Solider) were much "smaller" movies. If every movie involves some colossal universe-level threat, then it won't feel that special when you try to assemble the Avengers again in the future. Why even assemble them at all? This is the 12th time the universe has been threatened just this year alone.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's been a while since I've had mixed feelings with Marvel movie.

The action was well done, CGI looked believable and Doctor Strange himself was still to my liking.

The horror aspect was a poor choice to me. For a franchise that has been appealing to mainstream and approachable to all this will definitely impact how many people want to watch it.

However, the bigger problems for me were elsewhere. Pacing of the film felt weird but it's hard for me to describe why. The multiverse was also seemingly full of plotholes and oddities that were annoying. How some of the characters were treated was also bad choice in my opinion.

And here comes the spoilery part of the review in case you accidentally opened this review. I don't know is the success of MCU Infinity Saga and a greed resulted by that or is it just trying to appeal to the most HC Marvel fans but there have been way too many cameos lately. Be it the X-mens, Daredevils, Kingpins or Venoms the urgent need to make every Marvel related movie or series ever created relevant to the MCU is a bad choice that makes the already excessive "list of movies and series to watch before seeing this Marvel movie" even more ridiculous. Here the cameos were also mostly brought in to be killed off nearly instantly and it felt poorly executed.

All in all the movie left me surprisingly cold even through I have loved MCU and Doctor Strange before. Because of the horror aspects I don't think I ever want to see it again even though I didn't actually hate the movie.

The second installment in the “Doctor Strange”While I don’t completely agree with Martin Scorsese’s contention that Marvel movies aren’t cinema, the studios’ latest offering could arguably add fuel to the fire supporting that viewpoint. The second installment in the “Doctor Strange” series is, quite honestly, a hot mess in so many regards, a major disappointment from its predecessor and a movie in which it’s easy to lose interest. With a storyline that requires viewers to possess considerable foreknowledge of the characters and numerous narrative elements, a number of plot elements that go unresolved, and the inclusion of developments that grow progressively sillier with each passing frame, director Sam Raimi’s latest becomes increasingly boring, ridiculous and disjointed the further one gets into it. What I find most insulting, however, is the shameless way this offering has been employed more as a jumping off point for other upcoming vehicles in the Marvel Universe than as a standalone work of its own, a lynchpin in the perpetuation of this continuing body of work that amounts to little more than a vehicle for promoting future Marvel moviegoing experiences. Despite the film’s fine cinematography and art direction and a few choice moments of comic relief, I gave up on this one without a half hour left. Except for diehard comic book nerds, who will undoubtedly love this no matter what, most other viewers could save themselves a lot of time and tedium by not waiting as long as I did to bail by just skipping this one entirely. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may rely too much on the madness. The movie felt as though it could not decide on it's tone and by no means felt like a sequel to the first Doctor Strange movie tonal wise. Wanda's motivation is written off as just "The Darkhold" and feels cheap after spending nearly 10 years with the character. For a movie that was supposed to have such emotional weight I unfortunately did not feel much. As for the positives the visuals and action pieces were fun. Expand

Enough that it truly shocked my wife and I. The plot jumped so much that it was hard to invest any emotion into the story and characters after all that we already knew about them. It was obvious they thought new hero Amerika Chavez would carry the movie and take the mantle, but this was not so. She came off as more of a bratty teenager who barely even seemed to belong in this universe until the very end. Long time comic fans will not buy into her forced sense of inclusion. A new team is introduce, and basically discarded shortly after they are introduced. Why do that? Didn't even try to build on any of their characters. Also, this movie presented a great opportunity to introduce a new super villain. Sadly, there wasn't one. The entire movie just seemed very cardboard cutout -ish, and lacked the polish we've come to expect from Marvel and Disney movies. It seemed rushed and thrown together with the simple goal of being a quick cash grab. Definitely a step backwards in my view. Expand

I LOVED original Dr strange (right below Cpt America-not including the Avengers movies). Why? Because they told the story for what they were. No woke. No agenda behind the story. Just a great story for what they were (until later were they actually did started to do all this). Anyhow, this movie was....well a bit meh. Really I should give it a 5, but some of the cinematography, music, and SOME of the cgi was good. So, extra point. But, that's where it stops. The acting, besides Dr strange and Scarlett, was just overacted and kinda tropey. Did I mention woke? Yep, now it's not in the background-it part of the story. When this is introduced, I literally hear people in the audience either laugh (as well as I did along a "u gotta be kidding me"), snicker, or comment "of course." Does Disney not get it? Yes. We ALL know you're "woke," but does it always have to be a point of contention in movies now? Cam we just have great storytelling (and acting) without this being a thing. Did I mention? Woke. The males (including Strange) are either dumb, underpowered, or have little to no use. Girl power? GIRL POWER ALL THE WAY.....so sick of it. All the girls are apparently the strongest in the whole movie. Gotta be kidding me.... ALMOST FORGOT....plot holes KILL any sense of urgency. Shame. just wait for it until D+ streams it. Maybe then it will be worth it. So sad. I should know better than to expect anything else from disney messing with stories for agenda's sake.

It's a good Sam Raimi movie, with Horror like Moon Knight but it doesn't fell like a Doctor Strange Movie. Also the Title "Multiverse of Madness" is wrong. This Movie is a sequel to WandaVision, that's all. The characters travel just a few times in the Multiverse and that is not even the plot. The Plot is "Wanda has to let go his Kids". And the movie doesn't have a end. Yeah it's MCU but Doctor Strange 2 isn't really a Movie. It's a "trailer" for the future projects. You should watch the Movie on Disney plus, sorry. Expand

Still trying to wrap my head around this one for better or worse. Directed by Sam Raimi (director of the original Spider-Man trilogy of all people), Dr. Steven Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) find himself thrust into the multiverse as he tries to protect a young multiverse jumper (Xochitl Gomez) from a possessed and deranged Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) whose Scarlet Witch persona has taken over her mind. Just when you thought things couldn't get much tripier than the first Doctor Strange film, along comes this one to throw everything that film had to offer, along with the rest of the MCU as a whole into complete disarray. This film is quite a mess, and not exactly a good one either sadly. While it surprisingly didn't overindulge on fan service too much with the exception of a very particular sequence towards the middle of the film that is sure to please several eager fans holding out hope for certain cameos, the story itself is still so scattershot and all over the place from start to finish that it becomes almost headache-inducing to follow. There's very little in the way of character/story development here as well. Furthermore, this is EASILY what I'd consider to be both the darkest and even most violent MCU film to date, with several uncalled for brutal and violent deaths that left me with a very bad taste in my mouth, as well as several frightening/jump scare moments straight out of a horror film, which makes sense considering this is Raimi we're talking about here. He's come a long way from his 'Evil Dead' films, but nonetheless manages to incorporate their atmosphere and style into this, but it just doesn't seem to fit or vibe well with a Marvel superhero film in my opinion. Performance-wise Cumberbatch of course once again nails the role he was born to play here, and even Elizabeth Olsen is in top form and creepy as hell here. Several of her scenes in particular are sure to serve as nightmare fuel for several people! Newcomer Gomez also turns in a great performance here, and returning cast members from the first film, such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams are also great! Unfortunately, none of them really helped me enjoy this cluster of a film much more. Overall, it's not particularly inspired, and the story/concept is a mess, but it still nonetheless gives an interesting idea of what direction things might go in the MCU from here when all's said and done. Whether that direction is good or bad is beyond me though, and I still consider this a rare misstep within the MCU. It left me feeling exasperated moreso than exhilarated by the end of it. Expand

1. Firstly Strange arc was pretty damn weird in the movie to what his arc was shown in avengers first dr strange and nwh tbh. 2. Wanda's situation is similar to Strange's. We understand that she is evil because the Darkhold has corrupted her, but we don't understand why she decided to use the book or if she knew the consequences of doing so. If she knew it would corrupt her, why did she do it? And so on there are a lot of answered questions. And goes contrary to what she learned in Wandavision
3. Next American Chavez was too interesting. There wasn't much character to her and we did not get who she is and what motivates her the movie is just 126 min and am sure they could have added another 5-10 min to explain her character in much more detail.
4. The direction of the movie too was meh tbh and story was more or less flat.
5.The movie was hyped way too much, a lot was shown in the trailers there was just too much hype and the movie failed to reach the hype

Anyway that's my opinion enjoy the movie and have your own opinion :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. That was a surprisingly mediocre Marvel Movie. My brother whispered the plot of "WandaVision" to me during the movie, so that I could understand it. I really hate that we now have to have a Dinsney+ account to follow the Marvel Movies. That is a really greedy move, and if that continues, I'll be very pissed. The pacing felt really off. The first half was way too fast, Wanda as a villain felt really odd. The plot, America and Wanda's evilness all came out of nowhere. Wanda was a good villain because she was a horrifying threat, but her motivation felt so half-assed. And do Americans not feel stupid when they create a character that is called "America" and shoots stars?!
The fights were good though. Especially the one with music notes (you'll know after you watched). And I liked the Illuminati, but a lot of viewers don't even know Black Bolt.
The film really felt weird compared to other Marvel movies. I would not recommend it.

Somewhere in the multiverse, there exists a better version of this movie...

I thought this movie was alright. Definitely not my favourite Marvel movie, not even my favourite in this Phase of Marvel movies, but it definitely wasn't as bad as people are saying it is.

The ending felt a bit rushed, with some character arcs not closing off, and if you look at it as a legitimate horror movie it definitely falls flat. However, if you look at it as a Doctor Strange sequel, a WandaVision sequel, or an evolution of Loki's Multiverse crisis, despite some story threads not being utilised as well as they could be, it's a slightly spooky, family-friendly movie with a really fun premise and brilliant acting, not to mention a good step forward in the wider MCU.

A good sequel to Doctor Strange but if you are expecting fanservice catering like NWH you are greatly going to be disappointed.

Benedict Cumberbach returns as the mystical magician and is joined by a few other heroes, all of whom only have gestural powers, which means their conflicts have them slinging fierce rays at each other. After a fun opening sequence involving a giant one-eyed octopus, the rest of the action takes place among various types discussing the multiverse a lot. Eventually, they spend their time in a massive quantity of attractive visual effects. While the pacing never lags, the confusing mythology and noisy battles eventually merge into one long, unexciting fracas. NOTE: As usual for Marvel, stay thru the mid credits for a scene with Charlize Theron and the end credits for a cameo by director Sam Raimi's friend, Bruce Campbell. Expand

Sam Raimi's direction adds a lot to the film, but its a pretty mixed bag of whether those contributions make it actually better or just increase the magnitude of this things stupidity

So another film from Sam! I really liked the first one and the visual effects of the first looks like a high budget film...But here in the second looks like a low budget horror film.
I have feeling like i was watching the Evil Dead and the older version. Marvel here lost a good opportunity with the Multiverse here botching a movie that should be the caliber of the spider man no way home and the avengers!

I really liked all the cameos but i wish we should have more ....

5 right in the middle ...When Evil Dead meets Dr Strange!

You can tell his heart was in it but that just wasn't enough to keep me engaged. Convoluted storyline with poorly introduced and defined characters mixed in with a bad teen actor, as well as an overbearing score with every song sounding exactly the same. Cumberbatch performs well as strange, though his performance is largely overshadowed by Elizabeth Olsen who probably gives on of the best performances out of any film in the MCU so far. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the movie was pretty average, I didn’t really see growth in Strange’s character as he asks the question “are you happy?” But doesn’t really come to a conclusion. I have more qualms with the movie but that would be nit picky. My major problem is that I’m not a big fan of Sam Raimi’s directive style so this movie wasn’t really made for me, but all in all it’s a really enjoyable film and I think it’s a good watch. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie is the introduction of America Chavez. It's re-watchable, but we were pretty bored until the first half, parallel universes are very few and unsatisfying. Why did Kamar Taj disappear so quickly? The parts I love are: of course, first of all, Wanda's perfect strength. The graphics, the ambiance, the characters are already classic Marvel. So great. Especially the effects are eye-catching and perfect. I liked this movie, but there were many points where I got bored.Okay Expand

It left me a little disappointed with part of the plot. The cameos were great, but the previews were a bit misleading.

This is one of the few Marvel movies that I“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was… Different. That’s not to say it was bad, it just hits differently: This is certainly a very "gory" movie, as far as Marvel movies go anyway. This is one of the few Marvel movies that I feel actually deserved it’s PG-13 rating (Most of them are “PG-13 for babies”). The whole film felt like a grimdark horror movie with some good ol’ “Marvel Pizazz” The first "Doctor Strange" movie treated us with some of the best visual effects in any MCU film. The kaleidoscope aesthetic was something to behold. Tragically, the kaleidoscope effects only appear once or twice in the whole movie. We did get a smorgasbord of other visual effects to feast on however, so I guess I can’t complain too much.

And, as for the narrative… It was a bit “all over the place” for me. I know that it’s a story about the Multiverse (it’s right there in the title) but the story is very disjointed, Multiverse or no Multiverse. Everything felt a bit “stitched together,” which I believe is due to a lot of reshoots. I feel like these mishaps negatively effected America Chaves’ character. This movie is the characters debut, and both her intro and developments in this movie felt rushed. Hopefully she can make some sort of recovery in later films

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was a mixed bag of good and bad elements. Give it a watch, but don’t bring super young kids to see it. 6/10
