The MCU's first true horror movie. Perfectly transforming our empathy for a certain central character into distain for a villain only capable of bringing themselves down.

A vicious, incredibly bold multiversal adventure, that's willing to takes risks with the much sought after characters it brings in. America Chavez's debut feature is heartfelt, the surprises are of the scream out loud variety and its central character heel turn is handled with finesse and horrifying sequences by Raimi.

Go in with an open mind - it's not what you'll expect and it will be divisive. Other than its slight pacing issues, the glee with which it brutalises characters will be too much for some to take. Be prepared for new territory, this is a séance that blows the multiverse wide open.

P.S. Next time you dream, tell me you don't wonder if it really is you're alternative self...it totally is.

There is a certain horror element to this movie that works really well for the characters. Plenty of cameos and fun moments, my only complaint is it should have been 20 minutes longer because it needed more filler in between key plot points and I never once got bored of what it was showing me. The movie starts off at a good pace. Accelerating towards the end, it makes a pointless finale. A mid-range blockbuster with wasted potential.

The whole Marvel multiverse thing is just too inconsistent and has become a tired way of explaining some problems, without addressing the vast majority of dissonances it introduces. Add to that this movie couldn't decide whether it was a superhero action flick or an cheap-thrills make-you-scream horror flick. The movie ended with most in our large group scratching our heads, wondering what it was supposed to have been that we just watched. Expand

If you're a fan of the MCU because of its connections throughout all the movies you'll be somewhat disappointed. Elizabeth Olson's acting is the best thing about the movie and what the Scarlet Witch can do. The ending also falters out without any big battle moment, and if people want to criticize WW84 for a very similar ending you have to do the same here. It's a fun one-time ride, but it really undermines anything that happened before and anything that can happen in the future. Expand

Most people can wait to see this on Disney+, and really only if you're trying to see all of the Marvel films. Don't worry though, there is absolutely ZERO horror in this film, despite everyone calling it "Marvel's first horror" or "creepy". This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Here's how absurd the plot of this movie is. Wanda is so desperate to find her kids that she knows she never had to begin with, that she's willing to kill and steal the powers of a teenager that can punch star-shaped holes in the fabric of reality, so she can find her kids and take her alternate reality version's place as their mother.

So, why not work with America to help her control her powers first and then find a reality where Wanda had died and the boys were orphans and then offer to either take over as their mother there or bring them to our universe and take care of them here?

"Oh, but she's distraught and using an evil book!" She was in control of herself for some time before the movie started, but now the movie started, so hur-dur, let's make her the villain. Also, dear lord, they turned Wanda into an unstoppable killing machine beyond anything and everything that has come before. Nothing could stop her, and this movie goes beyond to hammer home how powerful she was. The entirety of Kamar-Taj: Dead
Wong Sorcerer Supreme: Beaten like it was nothing
Captain Marvel: Dead
Captain Cartner: Dead
Black Bolt: Dead (by killing himself, lol)
Jim from the Office cosplaying as Mister Fantastic: Dead
Professor X from the 90's cartoon: Dead and went out like a ****

And then there's Doctor Strange, whose power is either very strong or completely worthless and Marvel is banking on the viewer just turning off your brain the right amount to ignore these easily noticed things.

This movie should have been named "Doctor Strange and The Jumping of the Shark" because it was. Whatever you loved about the MCU is gone now. All the worldwide risk and danger we lived through in the last decade or so--Pointless. The scale they just brought the threats to have made everything that came before trivial. Even Moon Knight with literal gods fighting each other is pointless. This was the movie that broke on the MCU. I am done with them. The direction they are taking is just not my thing, and I'm not sticking around for it.

P.S: Hey, so now that Wanda yeeted herself at the end, what happens with Vision, hmm? Did y'all forget there's a version of him that survived at the end of Wandavsion? Any reason for that to move on with?

All around just a really great movie, though it does have its flaws and I understand why some people don't like it. It really does stumble a bit under the giant that is the Mcu, but manages to stand out quite nicely through the unique directorial style of Raimi. It truly is a Sam Raimi film inside of the Mcu, and for that I absolutely love it. I think that some people aren't liking this movie because they are disappointed that it's not cameo-paluza, but you don't need cameos to make a great movie. As long as you go in with your expectations checked in the cameos you will have a great time. Spoilers
I'm gonna do some diving here so strap in. Here are the things I'll be discussing
1. How great of a villain Wanda is
2. How cool the Illuminati is
3. Strange's character arc

The Scarlet Witch truly is a definitive villain as she started as one. I've seen a lot of people giving Wanda too much credit when it comes to her bad deeds, but they seem to forget that she started as a villain in Age of Ultron and has killed innocent people in the past, even if it was by accident. She truly is a tragic villian, which makes her even more compelling. I can't necessarily sympathize with her, but I believe many others can. This is not my idea, I got it from the YouTube channel "Sean Chandler Talks About" but he makes a great point in saying that her quest for her kids is like addiction. It gives you a narrow view of what is right and wrong and causes you to rationalize everything you are doing wrong that you otherwise would not. She is addicted to finding her kids, and she does many evil things to fulfill this addiction, just like many addicts might. I suppose you could relate to her if you were a mother as well, but I guess it's not the same since her children are a delusion. Okay, I know a lot of people disliked the Illuminati scene, but I thought it was near-perfect. My only honest complaint would be that Captain Marvel is the fiery ball from the trailer and not someone cool like Human Torch or Superior Iron Man. I freaked when I saw John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic and loved seeing Black Bolt + Professor X. Captain Carter was pretty cool too I guess, but I mostly just kind of like the balls Marvel has to kill them 5 minutes after introducing them. It was a great way to show what Wanda is truly capable of and a great way to pump some more Sam Raimi horror out. Of course, if Krasinski is not officially cast as Mr. Fantastic in the main Mcu timeline I will absolutely hate the scenes with the Illuminati, but if not they are so sick. OK, last, but certainly not least, Strange's character arc. I think his character arc in this movie might be the single-most compelling across one movie in the entire Mcu (except maybe Iron Man's in his first movie). In Avengers: Infinity War Strange looks into hundreds of millions of alternate timelines to see which one they win. He finds the one and makes the call to save Tony's life and giving up an infinity stone in return. He then says "It was the only way." In the cold open of this movie with Defender Strange, he basically says the same thing before he's about to kill America. He says, "This is the only way" I believe. This sort of highlights the overwhelming arrogance that every Stephen Strange in every reality shares. They truly believe they know best. In the very next scene Strange talks to a man who asks him if there was any other way, since the man had lost his brother (and 2 cats) during the blip, in which he had disappeared. Strange is stumped by this. Christine, when they are talking, then tells him that it never would have worked between them because Strange always had to be holding the knife, which basically means he had to make all the tough decisions. This all comes to a head at the end of the movie when Strange is faced with a choice. Do things as he's always done them, believing that his way is the only way, and kill America Chavez, or let her decide her own fate. It would have been easier to kill America and waaay less risky, and she even asks him to kill her, but he doesn't because he realizes that there is another way, and that way is not for him to find, but for her. Though this leads him there, I think what truly proves that Strange is a changed, more competent and less arrogant man is when he bows to Wong, the sorcerer supreme, like he is supposed to. It closes out his arc perfectly in my opinion and leaves us with perhaps one of the greatest Mcu characters at this point. I know this is long, but I love this movie and I didn't know where else to share this. I am only giving it a 9/10 and not a 10/10 because of its flaws. If I were rating this out of pure enjoyment, I would give it a 10/10 because it was thoroughly entertaining.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Il film è abbastanza godibile e a me sinceramente è piaciuto. Man: No Way Home Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a visual spectacular, one of the coolest and most interesting movies I've ever seen especially visually. Sam Raimi's direction was outstanding, I loved the incorporation of horror elements. The writing was phenomenal especially the character development with Wanda and Stephen. The visual effects were remarkable, just ever minute of the movie they were amazing and one scene that really stuck out to me was when America and Stephen were traveling fastly through the Multiverse. The performances were exceptional especially from Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Xochitl Gomez, and Rachel McAdams. The music was superb, I loved the different styles of music used. The makeup and hairstyling was excellent especially on Benedict Cumberbatch (specifically zombified him) and Elizabeth Olsen. The costumes were terrific especially ones wore by Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen. This was an A+ movie and my favorite movie of 2022 so far. Expand

Pundits and die hard fans were clearly expecting an allusion to popular Marvel Comics series such as the House of M and clearly the time when various other 'studio licensed' properties finally joined the MCU. But so far, they have been disappointed. Clearly that without the Pandemic, we would have reached that pinnacle by now. Here, clearly Marvel is 'clearing up their' backlog first; films that were supposed to be released in 2020 /2021 slate but delayed due to Covid. It culminates in this film, which rumor has it was rewritten to fit in certain 'newly added' plot points in the Disney+ series. However, what made this project shine through is the commitment of of both Cumberbatch and Olsen, who clearly are 'game' to what Marvel is doing and give it their all. As such, this flick may feel disjointed but at just 2 hours time, its pacing issues is not as prevalent. But sometimes I wonder, if it went through as planned before Covid, we may have one of the top tier Marvel films out there. Expand

Because of the theme of loss there is a lot of character development for Strange and his supporting cast, but Olson's performance as Scarlet Witch really takes center stage for me. The visuals were spectacular and the music, by Danny Elfman, worked very well for its more macabre art design. The only thing that I'd say is this is not for most younger kids. If you wouldn't let them watch a classic slasher flick then this will have moments that are too scary for them. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was scared, when I heard about the reshoots and changing the story because the director change. It's a good Sam Raimi movie, with Horror like Moon Knight but it doesn't fell like a Doctor Strange Movie. Also the Title "Multiverse of Madness" is wrong. This Movie is a sequel to WandaVision, that's all. The characters travel just a few times in the Multiverse and that is not even the plot. The Plot is "Wanda has to let go his Kids". And the movie doesn't have a end. Yeah it's MCU but Doctor Strange 2 isn't really a Movie. It's a "trailer" for the future projects. You should watch the Movie on Disney plus, sorry. Expand

One of the worst MCU/Superhero films of all time.

I don't know how Marvel could stoop to this level total disregard for characters & storylines. They made Illuminati a joke, Dr. Strange is more like a side character in his own movie they butchered Wanda's character. Incursion was an ambitious story line in the Marvel comics which was wasted here.

Ridiculous storyline... Torturing an entire town of people cannot be justified just because Wanda is a woman...Tony & Natasha sacrificed their lives...Wanda just lost her robo lover... Peter who's way younger than her lost more in couple of days than she did in her entire life & this all happens in MCU's continuity. Wong even though is the Sorcerer Supreme is incompetent, America Chavez isn't a great/well recieved character even in the comics to begin with & this movie couldn't help to redeem her. Guess according to Hollywood strong female characters can only come at the cost of strong male characters. Diversity & powerful women is great in movies and all but adding diversity & women empowerment just for the sake of it only makes the stories worse. It really is a shocker that Sam Raimi directed this.

The threat to reality becomes too great for Strange, Wong (Benedict Wong) and Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), and chaos ensues.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is probably the closest thing any Marvel movie is going to get to a horror movie. We can all go ahead and thank director Sam Raimi for that, now there’s a director who understood the assignment. The film starts crazy and only gets more chaotic as it progresses. Once you go into the multiverse narrative there’s quite literally endless possibilities. We’ve already seen the potential of exploring the multiverse with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: No Way Home and now the bar has been raised yet again with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Multiverse of Madness is a lot of fun, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It does drift into horror movie territory for a good portion of the movie but if anything that just made me like it more. What can I say, I’m a fan of the first Doctor Strange and most of the Marvel movies and been looking forward to this for months. It’s not quite what I expected, but it’s mental and I loved it. It’s completely off the rails but with Cumberbatch and Olsen as two strong characters we’ve seen onscreen a few times it’s nice to see their characters developed further. Considering the sheer amount of comic book movies we’ve had over the last twenty years I think it’s safe to assume many people have become a little worn out by the same formula over and over again so to see Marvel hire a director like Raimi to make something a little different is great and I’d like more of this please. It’s important to have a little variety in the superhero genre and I love seeing Raimi step back into the superhero genre. Let’s be honest we all know Spider-Man 3 wasn’t his fault, studio interference continually ruins so many movies, so if he wants to make a sequel to The Multiverse of Madness then let him, I want to see more of this craziness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has lots of horror, lots of magic and lots of madness. Highly recommended for the Marvel fans, and for everyone else you need to be warned that without prior knowledge of the previous Marvel films you may feel a little lost. Don’t forget the two post credit scenes for all the die-hard fans.

-A clear theme that runs through the film
-Excellent directing and CG
Cons
-A psychopathic villain who cannot understand the background story in the play and cannot empathize with the reasons for actions.
-Insult for Marvel's popular characters like Blackbolt, Professor X
-Boring action scenes (The strongest sorcerer on Earth is struggling to defeat an octopus that doesn't seem very strong. What a joke.)
-Just trying to fill holes in the plot with a multiverse

This is one of the few Marvel movies that I“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was… Different. That’s not to say it was bad, it just hits differently: This is certainly a very "gory" movie, as far as Marvel movies go anyway. This is one of the few Marvel movies that I feel actually deserved it’s PG-13 rating (Most of them are “PG-13 for babies”). The whole film felt like a grimdark horror movie with some good ol’ “Marvel Pizazz” The first "Doctor Strange" movie treated us with some of the best visual effects in any MCU film. The kaleidoscope aesthetic was something to behold. Tragically, the kaleidoscope effects only appear once or twice in the whole movie. We did get a smorgasbord of other visual effects to feast on however, so I guess I can’t complain too much.

And, as for the narrative… It was a bit “all over the place” for me. I know that it’s a story about the Multiverse (it’s right there in the title) but the story is very disjointed, Multiverse or no Multiverse. Everything felt a bit “stitched together,” which I believe is due to a lot of reshoots. I feel like these mishaps negatively effected America Chaves’ character. This movie is the characters debut, and both her intro and developments in this movie felt rushed. Hopefully she can make some sort of recovery in later films

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was a mixed bag of good and bad elements. Give it a watch, but don’t bring super young kids to see it. 6/10

All of the individual concepts (except the magic music note battle) could have technically worked without breaking immersion if handled by a better director, but all it did was consistently destroy any semblance of sense or continuity - and not in a fun multiverse way. It wasn't even so bad it was funny like Drag Me To Hell, it was just genuinely painful to watch. Better make sure we kill off all the cameos so we're not tied down to fulfilling the promise we've made over and over to fans. Tonally inconsistent, unsatisfying and hugely disappointing. I genuinely would rather see the entire MCU end today than have another film like this destroy what could have been some compelling storytelling. Expand

The second installment in the “Doctor Strange”While I don’t completely agree with Martin Scorsese’s contention that Marvel movies aren’t cinema, the studios’ latest offering could arguably add fuel to the fire supporting that viewpoint. The second installment in the “Doctor Strange” series is, quite honestly, a hot mess in so many regards, a major disappointment from its predecessor and a movie in which it’s easy to lose interest. With a storyline that requires viewers to possess considerable foreknowledge of the characters and numerous narrative elements, a number of plot elements that go unresolved, and the inclusion of developments that grow progressively sillier with each passing frame, director Sam Raimi’s latest becomes increasingly boring, ridiculous and disjointed the further one gets into it. What I find most insulting, however, is the shameless way this offering has been employed more as a jumping off point for other upcoming vehicles in the Marvel Universe than as a standalone work of its own, a lynchpin in the perpetuation of this continuing body of work that amounts to little more than a vehicle for promoting future Marvel moviegoing experiences. Despite the film’s fine cinematography and art direction and a few choice moments of comic relief, I gave up on this one without a half hour left. Except for diehard comic book nerds, who will undoubtedly love this no matter what, most other viewers could save themselves a lot of time and tedium by not waiting as long as I did to bail by just skipping this one entirely. Overall, it's a mess with very little redeeming characteristics

It's theme and style is disjoined as it's still a marvel movie but there are horror-movie scenes. But it jumps between those styles. At one point, a zombie winks, at another point there is a jump scare and a character surprises behind another one and snaps the other character's neck. So it doesn't feel like a fun marvelovie because there are scary scenes and gore, but it's not a complete horror movie as it still trust to feel fun.

The fighting is mostly magical based so it doesn't carry as much weight. Just a lot of special effects but you don't feel the tension in their moves or actions.

The plot has some of those "wait... Why didn't you just do this or that" or "wait... You could have done that earlier and avoided all of this"

It leans heavier in the spells and magic and stuff than in previous iterations. I let it slide in the past because they're superhero movies and shows anyway. But in this one, there's more talk of demons, spells, spirits.

It's more heavy handed on the wokeness than I would prefer The only redeeming part of the movie was that the special effects were well done, and the few scenes with some characters from other marvel comics that we have not seen before for alterations of them because multiverse. That part was cool. Thankfully, I think this movie does not drive the overall MCU story so it should be skipable.

Michael Bay like endless action and explosion with terribly written and executed Raimi evil dead humor injected. If anyone thought the b movie schlock constituted horror elements they must be incredibly delicate. I actually think Bay would have made this better because the dumb bits would just be more mind numbing explosions, that would be less offensive. The character's never stay in one place long enough to tell a story, they just spout nonsense and the next action scene happens. We sit for 2hours and don't even get a satisfying ending, just another wet fart in a movie full of them.

I don't think I'll be seeing another Dr. Strange or Raimi directed MCU movie after this.

I wish Marvel would have let Raimi run free, but he shines through more then expected. If your a fan of his work and Marvel movies, you'll enjoy it!

This is one of the best Marvel movies ever made, no idea what's all the hate all about.
Went 2 times to watch this amazing piece of art.
Update, I think I actually know now why some hate the movie. It's comparable to the game The last of us

It's comparable to the game The last of us part 2. they lost one of the heroes they loved in the series and they just can't get over it. (one of my most beloved games also)

One of the best Marvel movies yet! I went in with low expectations (since I’d heard it was just ok) and was pleasantly surprised by how great it was
