For a comic based movie, it is put together extremely well. A visual treat. The story though predictable has enough and more for all audience to be entertained. Overall the best in the Marvel series so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a really well made movie with some deep political messages- but the reason it is not a 10 is due to its tone. Part of me wanted it to stick to being a kids movie and another part wanted it to get darker and more gruesome. A lot of kids will not get the scenes that are inverted iconic moments from Roots or the references about "the sun never setting on the Wakandan Empire." Also, there a couple of CGI moments that don't look the best. But it is certainly one of the best marvel films that I've seen due to its acting, writing, the nuances, and how it is unapologetically political. I'm really glad this movie has all the success it has, while some of the critics heralding it as the second coming could check themselves a bit, one should not let that diminish the fact it is a great movie. One of biggest hits of MCU previous for showdown Infinity war. The characters -heroes and foes- are justified and dynamic, so the action and battle sequences. Pay attention for one of last cameos of Stan Lee.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't express myself enough to how much i adore this movie.
It was easy to make it just another action driven marvel movie, with a plot that i think everyone sees coming, a prince that is made king over the death of his father, looses his throne and has to take it back. But this was such a small part of the movie.
This movie, got the character development completely on point, no character is the same as it was in the beginning, and going through the process is what the movie is, it has action on it (of course it's a superhero movie after all), but Black Panther is more character driven than anything. Applause to Michael B. Jordan for his amazing portrayal of what could have been just another villain, but Erik Killmonger is without a doubt the best villain the MCU has. He has the right intention, what he says makes sense, it makes so much sense that in the end he convinces the main character to agree with his intentions, of course his actions are that of a villain and that's where the difference lies.
The Humor is also really well done, and in all of that technology, they didn't forget to show the african aspect of it all.
Of course it has some minor setbacks, like they introduce us Killmomger with such an amazing scene, but then he's gone for a while, some parts of the CGI really seemed unfinished, like the Rhinos for example, it started off a bit slow actually, only getting really geared up when T'Challa fights Jabori tribe leader for the throne.
So i think this is a marvelous film, and that really makes me respect the director Ryan Cooler even more, he has a bright future

Batman meets James Bond meets Africa
This movie mixed technology and tradition perfectly together. The suit put iron man to shame and The designs felt like jorrodoworskys dune. The only thing I wish they did better was make the culture more interesting and the city more developed, the actor also seemed weak to me and not very real. But overall it was beautiful and flowed in an extraordinary way.

I am a true Marvel comics fan and this movie felt very accurate to the character. I also got that very special feeling of being 12 again, which to me is the most cherished part of watching comic book movies - just to be that kid again for a little while and have my imagination stimulated by the fantastic. I can't wait to go back to Wakanda again when Thanos shows up.

A criticism: the climax scene was off for me - I won't spoil it but it was a little bit of a letdown.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I came into the movie afraid that it would not live up to the Wakanda-sized hype built up around it. But wow, this was a great movie. Much props to Ryan Coogler because I'm not really a fan of the MCU except for Winter Soldier and Iron Man 1. This is definitely my favorite installment, hands down. The cast was picked out perfectly. Everyone from Chadwick and Lupita to Serkis and Freeman did a phenomenal job. Especially Micheal B. Jordan. They developed Killmonger so well that I almost found myself rooting for him -- not many movies (especially Marvel) have done that to me. Props to Coogler once again. The plot flowed well from beginning to end, leaving hardly any stone unturned. Except for the sneakers gag, I suppose, but that wasn't all *that* important at the end of the day. The world building of Wakanda was amazing. I really got a sense for what this prosperous, but reclusive kingdom was all about. Lastly, the seemless blending on contemporary American hip hop with traditional African sounds was marvelous.

The CGI was probably the weakest point in the film, but those scenes did not last more than 10 seconds at a time, so it was tolerable. I feel like there's hardly any excuse for that in 2018 with such a big budget, but I have certainly seen worse. Some of the humor was a bit off putting, but it doesn't approach the kind of forced humor seen in The Last Jedi, for example.

All in all, I loved this move. 9/10 and I will be seeing it again! As much as I hate following the prolonged MCU, I can say truthfully that I cannot wait to see the 2nd installment of this film.

As a fan of the marvel cinematic universe and a fan of movies in general, everything really worked for me in this film. Director Ryan Coogler did a great job adapting this beloved comic for future generations. The film had some social commentary on real life events, which I felt enhanced the story and was not just pidgin holed in. It added a realistic backdrop to help flesh out the heroes and villains of the story, a line that we find is not always clear cut. Also, a nod to the actors & actresses in this film who all put on a top class performance. I really enjoyed everyone in this film, but my standouts were Andy Serkis, Letitia Wright and Michael B. Jordan. This was a very solid action adventure film that had the right amount of seriousness in it to make me feel invested in the characters. If you are a fan of the marvel cinematic universe I highly recommend this film. Expand

Something i have never seen before and i would recommend this to any superhero fan. The Black Panther isn't really your typical superhero, not at all, and it really represents black culture and what they have been through a litte. My favorite Character in the movie was definetly the Villian who wasn't really a villian but was battling some real demons and didn't just want revenge. He was in a dark place and didn't really know what to do, but in the end he finally got throgh it. Great movie, loved it, would definitly like to see more of this from Marvel, in the future. Expand

Great action sequences, solid directing, and a decent villain for once. I'm glad that the movie avoided most of that "Disney syndrome" where you can barely make out the director's style and themes. Coogler not only managed to represent his depictions of culture and society elegantly, but he also was able to incorporate some of his own directing style as well. That breathtaking single shot from the fight scene in Korea keeps popping back into memory. The characters were all well rounded, and the actors all captured them flawlessly. The excellent score also helped propel this movie further, and helped generate this enchanting aura. I'm also really relieved that they included less of that Disney humor, although there were a couple of tension killers and joke that make you vomit uncontrollably. But moving on the the bad stuff: I felt that the pacing of the movie was slightly off, especially in the first act of the movie. I also thought that MBJ could have gave more effort in his performance, and I never believed that he fully sold his role. Other problems included some of the writing, visual effects, and lack of screen time for some characters, especially for the villains. Overall, I thought this was an action packed movie filled with a decent story and inspiring characters, and its welcome arrival into the MCU bring it something that it was missing for a long time. Black Panther picks up right after the events of Captain America: Civil War following Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa/Black Panther) and the rise of a new king and the struggles that come from the responsibilities of it. Performance wise everyone did a flawless job, between the accents of the Wakanda people to the beautiful, Blade Runner like city designed to the artistic fight scenes and tightly written dialogue creates a movie worth watching. Every character, even Stan Lee with his famous cameo, just come off with such power and leaves the viewers with such impact and lots to think about from each line of dialogue delivered. Both Boseman and Jordan make the ranks of fans and critics favorite characters in the MCU to date along side with the array of supporting actors (Freeman, Gurira, Nyong’o, Whitaker, Kaluuya, and Serkis). Action wise this movie is visually stunning. With Coogler transferring his use of beautiful follow cams from Creed and using the same Cinematographers from Creed and Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle to choreograph the fights and film them so flawlessly and beautifully makes Black Panther one of the best action movies of the year by far. Special Effects look beautiful with the Kinetic Suits and the Vibranium infused weapons used by the Wakanda warriors and Boseman. Each site of the city gets more and more beautiful with its subtle yet so appealing to the eyes. By far my favorite was the kinetic energy used when the Black Panther suit was charged up. Ryan Coogler gave it his all with Black Panther and didn’t hold back a single bit with is beautifully written film that was directed so perfectly. I was a fan when I saw his work with Jordan on Fruitvale Station back in 2014 and loved his work even more with yet again Jordan in Creed and how Coogler has cemented himself in with the MCU as being one of the best directors working to date. My overall Score for the film has to be a 9.5/10 Expand

First impressive thing I noticed was its rich attention to detail in world building and its characters. My only criticism, I would have like to have seen more of the Killmonger character, as I feel they didn't go far enough with him. Over-all, this is a fun and enjoyable movie with action, comedy, drama. There are some complex social political overtones mixed in, but it never feels heavy handed, and I feel that the over-all message is positive for humanity as a whole. This movie met and exceeded all my expectations. The lead, Boseman, is superb and believable. He plays an compassionate but troubled leader (King) of the technologically superior but aloof Wakanda. His supporting cast of strong female and male actors is also strong. He has a fun relationship with his little sister, a respectful but nonromantic one with his all female spear wielding warrior bodyguards, and sort-of-there love. It is basically King Arthur's court set in Wakanda, an imaginary African nation. He is defeated in single combat by an abandoned descendant of the royal family and loses his Kingdom. The usurper, Jordan, then proceeds to immediately declare war on the world for past wrongs to the inhabitants of Africa, and off we go! Of course as Jordan will find out, it's not all in one man and the women of his life come to the rescue as well as an old rival who helps out because of his grudging respect of the the newly made and usurped king. The acting is good, there is character development in the lead, who learns that tradition is useless if it has lost it's purpose; strong female leads; great action sequences; political statements; and you even can feel something for the usurper, even though you know he has to go down. Go see it, people will be talking about it Monday at the water fountain.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What is with all the hate for this movie from people who haven't even seen it yet? BLACK PANTHER IS OUTSTANDING!!! This movie is not unique because it's a movie about the first Black superhero ever created, or anything else of racial matters. Rather, tt has qualities that surpass many other Marvel or superhero films and makes a really compelling story with some outstanding qualities in terms of its characters, dialogue, tension, set design, and action .
Perhaps the most outstanding aspect that Black Panther has to offer is it's use and development of characters, and the well written dialogue. Like most other Marvel movies, it has some pretty funny lines, but many of the scenes and dialogue are serious and the tension you feel while watching it is great, even if there's no action going on, because the actors are doing a great job. And every single character is likable and useful to the story and none of them are pointless nor useless (*cough cough*Last Jedi). You really care about all these characters no matter what their ideals or motivations are, and they all fit perfectly in the story with their own set of unique purposes. And this goes especially for the main villain , Killmonger, who has very clear motivations and are developed and told in the story in brilliant fashion. You feel for and understand his struggles and is a much more important and outstanding villain than pretty much any other Marvel villain, who are mostly just disposable and forgettable. My personal favorite is Shuri because she's a very likable character being T'Challa's younger sister with her witty comments and you know how much she loves her brother when she helps him with her technological knowledge and assistance as he goes through his struggles and challenges to become the new King of Wakanda. Another aspect of the film that is also outstanding is the action sequences and set design . The set design and color palette are much more improved nd defined than a loth of other Marvel films, and there much to appreciate about the set up of Wakanda and it really feels like it actually exists in the real world. Sure, some of the green screen effects/CGI are kind of noticeable but for me that doesn't really doesn't distract me from how much amazing tension there is in the action sequences. Every fight/battle (especially in the climax) are thrilling and are done so well that it pulls you in to it's majesty. I felt some shivers and shakiness from these action sequences because they are brilliantly directed. And one last outstanding topic to cover: this movie does well on it's own and it not forgettable. Sure, it's the movie right before Infinity War and could've been just a set up movie for that .but no, it really stands out as it's own story, and with little to no ties to other Marvel movies and does not waste time setting up Infinity War or anything like that. In fact, you don't really need to watch any other marvel movies prior to this one because Black Panther works on its own as a great, almost game changing experience. Even though it's not perfect and it does kinda feel bland a little bit in the first act, it goes above and beyond towards the second and third act with all of it's action, tension, character development, and dialogue to make probably the most thoughtful and well-written/directed Marvel movies to date. Props to Ryan Coogler, the screenwriters, and all the actors who made Black Panther happen. Wakanda Forever!!!

I'm talking about films like Thor: The Dark World, Spiderman Homecoming, Captain America Civil War, Iron Man 2 & 3. They were nice to watch, but I couldn't be bothered to sit through them again. They were made to hype you up for the Avenger films and clean your pockets if I'm being honest. Black Panther, on the other hand, was very different from any Marvel film. Its nice to see a film that has a little culture in it. Its not just another superhero film with a bland cast and predictable plot lines. I loved the dynamic between the characters, I loved that the villain wasn't bad for the sake of being evil, and yeah, the film might have been influenced by the Lion King in some respect but who cares, who doesn't love the Lion King? The acting was amazing--the casting was perfect. I loved that the film wasn't afraid to go into some very real and dark subjects. I just hope that Marvel will see the importance of this film and continue to make heroes that showcase different communities. Expand

The characters in the film are full of depth and their relationships with each other are developed and written really well. Each character is given time to shine in the film with heartfelt motivation and genuine depth. The script in the film is great as well, creating some excellent dialogues and remarkable scenes that are emotionally powerful. The production design is also great, with brilliant use of colour and impressive mix of tradition and technology in the settings of the film. Combining the amazing production design and the fantastic costume design, a highly realistic nation and culture of the fictional country Wakanda is created. The cinematography, acting and music are solid in the film. The film also successfully explores political, social and cultural themes with just the appropriate emphasis within the fantastic narrative. The action sequences are competent, but they are flawed with occasional over editing, and some CGI that look unfinished. Fortunately the action scenes contain great emotional weight from the characters. Another flaw of the film is its pacing, which makes the film feel like it’s split into two, and the pacing of the second half of the film sometimes feel too quick. The pacing issue also caused some cliched moments. Ultimately, Black Panther contains obvious but minor flaws, nevertheless the film is an immensely satisfying film that is certainly one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 8.6/10 Expand

But, even seeing this a week after it came out, I loved BP. The world-building was terrific and the cinematography absolutely beautiful. Unlike some recent superhero movies, I found the entire cast of characters compelling (Serkis was far better as Klaue (Klaw) in this than in his brief cameo in Age of Ultron). The action scenes were underplayed, if anything, but effective. There were a few bits of clunky dialog, but it really didn't matter. This was the freshest Marvel movie for me since the first Avengers. Expand

This movie is not disappointing, this movie is exceptional. Ryan Coogler brings his all to this film, and it shows. Just like Creed, his love for long take fights shows through an incredible casino tracking shot. The best thing about this movie is the characters. We all have been hearing about how amazing Michael B. Jorden is in the movie, and I can say that they are right, damn right. He is by far the best MCU villain. Just look at any of the positive reviews & see all the downvotes on every single one of them. Any other film does that have that issue, and that's because it was decided well before this movie came out by certain people that it was "racist towards white people," or "propaganda," just because of it being a primarily black cast.

In 2018, people literally cannot see past race. This movie was destined to be called "racist" regardless of what it did. The MCU has been around for 10 years, yet because one movie has a primarily all black cast it's "leftist propaganda?" Riiiighhttt...I'm not a leftists in any way, nor am I black (I'm white), but it was clear in the comments of every article leading up to this movie that people just can't be civil about stuff like this. They see faults in EVERYTHING, thinking it's all some elaborate conspiracy to remove white people from movies (or other idiotic similar ideas). As if the MCU isn't FILLED with white people, yet ONE movie that stars a black guy is to much? The character has been around for decades people... How is every other character ok, but having a movie staring a black one "pandering?" It's not. It's just your inability to move out of the political realm & think everything is some "war" on your stupid ideology. It's a friggin' movie...get a life & stop being triggered by anything that's not all-white. The best way to know they didn't watch the movie? Complaining about "oh the evil white people!" Yeah...that wasn't a theme whatsoever. The main villain is black, and he happens to be one of the BEST villains in the MCU. Including the non-movie side of the MCU, Loki, Kingpin, Kilgrave, Vulture, Ego (somewhat) & now Killmonger are some of the best baddies Marvel has put out there. The movie is set in Africa, and in a fictional country called Wakanda. Customs & traditions are based on African tribal culture mixed in with highly advanced technology hidden away from the world. Are there certain themes black people can relate with more-so than white people? Sure, that's to be expected. And what's wrong with that? There are endless movies with themes I relate with already and others couldn't, so why should I care if not 100% of the movie connects with me on some deep level? The overall message of doing the right thing, reaching out to help others, and uniting in the face of hardship & struggle instead of isolating yourself and only looking out for you alone is great.

And that's the exact thing we were taught in church, in school growing up and by our parents, yet suddenly now that we're adults we're supposed to be only concerned with ourselves? When others are hurt, hungry, helpless, bullied, sick, poor, etc. it's better to come together in times of crisis, lift each other up, and extend a helping hand...not cut yourself off & isolate yourself from your neighbors & hope the crisis doesn't affect you. Historically it ALWAYS backfires & makes things worse, and eventually you will suffer in some way from it. That's what this movies primary message is. That's what most every religious prophet in the judeo-christian religion teaches as well. And as I said, historically that's what we've learned too...World War 2 was only 75 years ago, and look what happened when everyone didn't want to intervene & stop the Nazi's rising to power. We tried to ignore them, appease them, and excuse the obvious red flags & warning signs. And people kept thinking "as long as it's not us, we shouldn't get involved!" Didn't work out so well...

And no, this movie didn't propose interfering in everyone else's lives. It literally said if you're able to HELP (key word) your neighbors & fellow man, you should do so if possible. The dialogue, the acting, the action, the pacing & the storytelling was all top notch for a comicbook movie. There were flaws like the CGI not being very good in several parts, or the short screen time of a certain character, but there weren't any movie-breaking issues. The movie wasn't as formulaic as many MCU movies, but it didn't break new ground in many areas either. Overall, it was a very well-told story that did justice to a great comic book character. I'd give it an 8.5 if possible, but if I had to pick between an 8 or a 9, I'd lean 9 since there weren't any glaring issues anywhere in the movie. Definitely recommend for REAL comic book fans & MCU fans.

If you're thin skinned & easily inflamed by trying to approach everything as if it were speaking to you on a political level, just stay home. You'll surely find something to get triggered about, just as anyone who looks hard enough can twist everything into whatever they want to think.

+ Killmonger is a really good MCU villain with an actual sympathetic backstory and believable motivation with a great performance by Michael B Jordan

- Killmonger does not have enough screen time and it takes half the movie for him to actually make a presence
- The action scenes apart from the casino/Korea are all bland and forgettable which is really bad especially for a superhero movie
- The CGI is really noticeable and is absolutely terrible in the final fight

Minor Nitpicks
.The first after credit scene really should've just been the ending though it is understandable to end where the film began
.Since this film is set right after Civil war, it is kind of weird how they brushed over T.Chaka's death

Marvel Created Another Marvelous Movie

Black Panther was a surprisingly captivating movie. Though I presumed that it would be somewhat predictable, Black Panther contained countless twists and turns throughout the storyline. It was especially entertaining to see the creativity of the creators flourish in the culture of the Black Panther’s homeland.

The most riveting factor, in my opinion, was the setting. The location of where the main characters resided in was hidden from the rest of the world. The reason for this was to keep a valuable material hidden. The plethora of this material was the foundation of the city's futuristic technological advancements. The rest of society had only seen glimpses of its capabilities.

It was enthralling to watch individuals from the outside world try to take some for themselves. What was even more interesting, was the motive of the outsiders. One, of course, simply wanted its value and power, but another had a more personal motive. It was intriguing to watch that individual attempt to execute his manipulative plan. His greatest fault was his underestimating the Black Panther.

In my opinion, the futuristic component of movies is usually overrated and overused, but in this case the use of technology was really creative. The Black Panther’s suit had the most mind blowing features embedded in it. Also, the technology that was used for transportation was also very original.

I saw this movie at Ipic which, unlike Black Panther, I think is overrated. Unless you have a membership and regularly see movies, Ipic is too expensive. The seats at the AMC at Desert Ridge are just as comfortable and cost considerably less. The perks of being at Ipic include a small pillow, blanket, and being able to order food during the movie. The food is good, but you could get the same food for less after the movie.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Black Panther offers a fresh, new perspective from the washed down, mediocre genre Marvel is famous for. It is directed by Ryan Coogler, known for his previous movies Creed and Fruitvale Station. The movie follows the main protagonist T’Challa, played by Chadwick Boseman, who is both king and the legendary Black Panther, protector of the fictional African country of Wakand

The opening scenes feature much needed exposition, explaining how millions of years ago a meteorite made entirely of “Vibranium” struck Africa, giving the flora unique properties. One such fruit gives the user Black Panther’s superhuman abilities. As such, the Black Panther is tasked with protecting the nation of Wakanda safe from outside influence. This leads to conflict later on as the Black Panther of the modern world is tasked with either keeping traditions or embracing outside contact to the modern world. The second exposition sequence features a flashback of T’Challa’s uncle living in Oakland and getting mixed up in urban gangs. This scene sets up the hard hitting underlying theme of urban struggles minorities face. Next, the movie cuts to T’Challa being coronated king of Wakanda, setting up his struggle with his close advisors and even his own family members.

Black Panther broke many boundaries with its almost entirely black main cast. This is especially fitting as he was Marvel’s first black superhero, being first introduced in 1966. The acting, for the most part, was everything you would expect from a multi-billion dollar company. The acting by Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, one of the main protagonists, and Forest Whitaker’s role as T’Challa’s mentor Zuri especially stood out to me. The acting had both Marvel’s light-heartedness and natural weight when it needed to. Coogler’s directing was the best thing to happen to Marvel’s ever expanding universe. If you have seen 2015’s Creed, you will understand Coogler’s unique directing style emphasizes the character’s motivation and sense of reality.
In Black Panther, there is almost a sense of two movies being put together into one. The first one being the classic Marvel movie, action-packed and thrilling to watch. And the second one having a genuinely distinct sense of authenticity in Coogler’s directing. If someone were to edit all the action out of the movie, you would not be able to tell it is a Marvel movie. It was honestly disarming to be able to feel real emotion coming from a Marvel movie. It has a more realistic, grittier tone than any other Marvel movie, it almost felt like a Dark Knight Movie, and I liked it.

The themes established early in the movie are clearly resolved by the end, which is rare for any superhero movie to get right. This is arguably Coogler’s biggest achievement with the film. In the end, after the main antagonist is defeated, T’Challa does the right thing. He opens up Wakanda to the world and establishes social outreach programs throughout the world. It offered a perfect ending to the film.

Marvel took a risk bringing on Coogler, and it paid off, big time. I don’t think any other director could have made a better adaptation of Black Panther. It is definitely a film to check out, or atleast watch on Netflix in a few months. I look forward to see what Coogler does in the future, hopefully Marvel brings him back to work on their other movies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When Marvel started this ambitious journey of creating a universe that spans dozens of films, I did not think it would be this successful. But after surprisingly good films and high production values this was bound to happen. Marvel has finally released a flawless motion picture and, so far, one of the best of the year.

What really makes Ryan Coogler's 'Black Panther' stand out from the rest of the MCU films is that is the first film which has a proper historical and cultural identity. More so, director Ryan Coogler knows how to combine it perfectly with the fantastic elements and sci-fi technology without becoming a Black Power Movement film. This is still a Marvel superhero adventure.

Not only that the real and fictional fuse perfectly they also flourish together through brilliant cinematography, bold set decoration and slick camera movement, Coogler aiming for a very dynamic style even when filming calm scenes. These, mixed with cool and sometimes epic hip-hop and trap beats or even African chants expand the usual Marvel Cinematic Universe creating a visual and sonic landscape. And is this fusion which dictates even the plot, presenting a so true story of African-American oppression through history and how the past can come and hunt you. An idea perfectly exemplified by the scarred villain Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) which manages to completely overthrow the powerhouse country of Wakanda in a single day!

So, "Black Panther" is powerful, perfectly balanced, a treat to look at, funny (as expected from a Marvel film) and possibly the best MCU film yet!

Black Panther was a blast from start to finish.Really love it.Ryan Coogler directed and wrote the **** out of this movie, after Fruitvale Station and Creed.he still knocked it out of the park, especially with the action scenes, they didn't felt weighless, the tension was real. The score was great, surprisingly, eventhough the soundtrack was very good, but the score...DAMN!.The film was vibrant and beautifully shot(might be the best looking MCU film to date) by Rachel Morrison, who was being nominated for Best Cinematography at the 90th Oscar for Mudbound(a very good movie on Netflix) The main issue in most MCU films is the villain. And with Black Panther, well they really did it.Erik Killmonger by Michael B.Jordan was the finest villain MCU has ever given since Loki ,if not overshadowed Black Panther himself. However,Black Panther was not perfect,it had flaws, sometimes they overutilized CGI,especially with the Final Fight, it was noticeable and the third act was a bit disappointing, they unfortunately went to the MCU formula like every Marvel films(except Captain America The Winter Soldier and Civil War).Nevertheless, this was the best MCU film since Civil War and it was certainly far better than Spider Man Homecoming and Doctor Strange, which are very unremarkable and tensionless (9.25/10) Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a fantastic film, whose acting, music, themes, etc help it rise above the few flaws that could have dragged it towards mediocrity. The father/son dynamics are immensely powerful, and they achieve their emotional weight without an ounce of mawkish **** I could praise almost every frame of this film, and though it does have its share of plot-holes, I've gotten the impression from reading articles about the editing process that most of said plot-holes were caused in the editing process, rather than in the script.

All that said, here are some of the flaws:
The first fight scene is a bit difficult to visually navigate, but this is due to it taking place at night, so it's probable the director wanted it to be slightly disorienting, as any disorientation felt by the viewers could mirror the experience of the mercenaries the Black Panther is fighting.

The use of the rhinos at the end feels forced and disjointed, and also marks the worst visual effects moment in the film- the bodies flung by the charging beasts look like digital rag-dolls. W'Kabi's motivations in following Killmonger, while underpinned by an AMAZING performance by Daniel Kaluuya, are not well enough explained to have me completely accept that he would betray those closest to him. This plot-hole is further made problematic by the fact that T'Challa could have unraveled Killmonger's entire plan by letting it be known that he stopped T'Challa from apprehending Klaue in the first place.

Killmonger's final line of dialogue is incredible, it doesn't seem like T'Challa would idly stand by and let his cousin needlessly kill himself on a day of so much bloodshed. This really comes down to my read of T'Challa as a character, but I did find it distracting that he just stood there while Killmonger pulled the blade out of his chest and died.

Perhaps there are more flaws, but that's all I can think of for the moment.

Anyhow, go see this movie! It's definitely a glittering roller-coaster worth the ride.

A very good narration to the story, great depth. Its a movie that established the character in mind. Action is very pleasing to watch. Things happened during runtime is fantastic. Its not a general marvel movie to watch.

I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece, but for a Marvel movie, this one truly stands out amongst the rest. The fight scenes, the story, the soundtrack, and the characters make this completely different than any other superhero film I've watched. The movie visually looks amazing and the CGI is not as bad as I thought it would be. I love how they illustrated Wakanda and all the tribes and people within it. The characters are very likable and the actors who portray them did a great job. Although, like almost every other film, it does have its flaws. Despite the cringy jokes, some scenes and dialogue feel unnecessary. As if you took them out, it would make no difference or even matter to the original cut. Overall, this is a joy to experience and I would say that this is definitely worth your time and money. Expand

If you hate on this movie it's most likely cause you're racist. The CGI was amazing besides the end but makes sense they were running out of budget. Beautiful soundtrack and visuals, unique interesting characters too.

But what was most impressive cinematically was the magnificent art direction: the imaginary locations are spectacular, the sci fi elements are cool and the costumes are fantastic. The surprise was how much drama is involved. Sure, there are the requisite action scenes, but there's a lot of talk about pride, moral responsibility and other lofty subjects. The cast is loaded with top notch actors, who turn in serious, dedicated performances. Ryan Coogler is one of the most promising directors today and he's brought his socially conscious vision to bear, while still managing to entertain. (As usual, stay thru the credits for a coda, then a teaser.) Expand

Black Panther has become the ultimate blockbuster, almost reaching the Avengers Age of Ultron as the 3rd most successful comic book film of all time. Is it worth the hype? Yes and no. Coogler on one hand created a passionate super hero film with a great perspective on the African continent. On the other hand, it is a 'Marvel film' and its basic plot is derivative of another Marvel flick about 'kingdom and princes'( which title I will not spoil here). Its success rest though on Marvel / Disney's uncanny marketing ability. Who knows that the African American community in the US 'hungers' for a film representative of them and bet a $200 million budget for it? Well Disney did and they got a $1.3 billion plus movie. Their dominance at this point on the cinemagoing experience is so 'severe' that I found that the only 'worthy' tentpole films to watch first day on the cinema are released by them. Expand

I have personally wondered how Marvel was going to move forward after Infinity War; the movie that caps off literally EVERYTHING they have made, Black Panther is that formula that will move them forward.

The story was totally inclusive to itself with political intrigue, family relationships, Leadership responsibility to home and the world at large. The movie proved to me that building strong standalone stories set within the marvel cinematic universe is the way they can move forward. It also can easily bring each standalone characters together for a "team-up event" sometime down the line.

The performance of the whole cast is on point, portraying such lovable characters in absolute fashion, and the soundtrack, curated by non-other than Kendrick Lamar, adds depth to the whole project. Though I believe this to be a very strong Marvel movie, it is bogged down with far too much CGI and towards the end loses its message of individual strength. I will say it is probably one of the best scripts for a superhero film.

The whole cast works so great together, especially with Chadwick Boseman's strong lead performance, and Michael B. Jordan's equally strong villain. The story, action, and visuals are all top-notch, and it never gets too silly or carried away with itself like most of the Marvel films do (even though that's what makes them fun either way), but it definitely is refreshing to see a bigger breath of maturity in this film than what I'm used to with most of the other Marvel films. Overall, yes it does have important social commentary behind it too that may seem to take precedence over the actual story and everything else, but really if you ask me, I thought that it blended very well with the rest of the film's aspects. Again, to reiterate, this really is one of Marvel's stronger efforts in recent memory. Expand

Black Panther is strongest when it just puts two characters on screen and puts a conflict between them: whether that's Killmonger disagreeing about the origin of an artifact or T'Challa disagreeing about his nation's role in the world. There are a lot of great scenes and amazing style in this film. However, they should fire the editor. The editing is bland, choppy, and distracting. The editor left no space for scenes to breathe and many sequences feel rushed. In sum, Michael B Jordan puts this movie on his back and carries it through to the end; his raw emotion contrasts wonderfully with Chadwick Boseman's stoic Black Panther and the supporting cast is excellent. I would put this on par with Iron Man. Expand

What's it
The short review: A good Marvel film that has unfortunately been hyped up to ‘great’ status, which it isn’t. Related media: I’ve seen all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films but I’ve not read the comics on Black Panther.

What's it like?: The Black Panther/T’Chala returns to Wakanda following the events in Captain America: Civil War to fight against any challengers to the throne. He wins the fight, but another challenger appears later on who is much tougher to beat. Pro: The ensemble of mainly black actors in such an important, expensive film is revolutionary for the community of black actors, especially since the film is made and acted well and is expected to be a major success.

Cons: 1) There are so many issues with the portrayal of Wakanda, with regards to its economy, its ultra-high technology, the relationships between the tribes, the wonders of Vibranium, etc. The portrayal is too fantastical and not realistic, and I felt that the filmmakers had not put in the effort, such as engaging engineers, economists and sociologists to try to make it at least, plausible. In making the portrayal so fantastical, they had dumbed down the film and hope the viewers are too dumb to know the difference.

2) Wakanda has been depicted as being so advanced that they even have body armour technology that is more advanced than Tony Stark’s. How realistic is it that you can keep all the technological advances a secret? Tony’s secrets are safe because only he knows them. Wakanda seems to rely on tribal trusts and those things are hardly reliable.

3) The scene where others challenge T’Chala to the throne did not seem realistic from an hydro-engineering point of view and the CGI also looked a bit poor and unrealistic. The filmmakers should have done it in a simpler and more realistic manner.

4) The depiction of the use of Vibranium tech for shielding, by a non-ruling tribe in Wakanda, felt again, unrealistic and poorly thought out by the filmmakers. 5) The scene showing the attempt to stop Wakanda tech from being taken out of the capital city, the one involving planes, felt simplistic, child-like and lazy.

6) The running time could be squeezed down by some 15 minutes by speeding things up.

7) A continuity issue has appeared as it is now uncertain when Captain America’s visit to Wakanda was supposed to take place!

Post credit scenes; There are two. The first references the current political situation in the US.

How would the different age groups rate it?

Children: (not rated for children)
Teens: Good
Young adults: Excellent
Medium age adults: Good
Old adults: Good

Rating: 4/5 (no half scores). It's worthwhile to pay to watch it in the cinema.

Different characters, different location, but it is a continuation of the overall picture and evolution of characters.
