The movie raises many questions on the new Batman-Alfred team, about their past. But there are no answers. Sometimes I had a feeling of chaos.
But summary it is good movie. Affleck is really good Batman and I like also Alfred character innovation with great actor (Irons).

What that means is that for better or for worse, this is a comic book movie made for comic book fans. And unfortunately for Zack Snyder,Ben Affleck channels Frank Miller's Batman while Henry Cavill taps into Kingdom Come/Red Son's Superman. What that means is that for better or for worse, this is a comic book movie made for comic book fans. And unfortunately for Zack Snyder, comic book fans can be pretty harsh critics. Snyder does not do himself any favors by including a polarizing CGI villain (as seen in the trailers) and perhaps an even more polarizing Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg. To say that this movie is dark would probably be an understatement for most viewers but this is the Batman that many fans have been waiting for and Ben Affleck delivers. Not only as the dark knight but also as billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne. While it's great to finally see Wonder Woman on the big screen, Gal Gadot really shines as Diana Prince and Jeremy Irons is perfect as Alfred Pennyworth. The pacing is great until it runs into a brick wall of 90's nostalgia but even that can't stop two of the world's finest superheroes. Expand

I think the movie got off to a slow start and some of the sub plots were just not necessary and could have been omitted. Although the start was slow and at times boring, it was essential for the overall plot of the movie's title. But once the action starts unfolding, its amazing. Did it exceed my expectations? No. But it didn't fall way short either like the reviewers want us to believe. I actually rated it an 8.5/10 and that's because of the slow pacing start. But go see the movie for yourselves and don't listen to the critics who seem like they had their reviews already printed before they saw the film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My expectations from Zack Snyder and Warner bros was just better than Man of Steel. Which I thought was a good film with some problems, it had mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.
The film starts with Thomas and Martha Wayne being murdered………AGAIN. However I do think that Zack Snyder put a very nice and different style to it than anything done previously. It then picks up from the end of man of steel but in Bruce Wayne’s perspective, which I thought was done absolutely brilliantly. Especially when he runs into the dust cloud caused by superman and zod destroying his building. One of the very few emotional scenes was when Bruce saves the little girl from the rubble of the building. In particular when he asks her where her mother is she points at the destroyed building, you really feel the “Darkseid” ( pun intended ) of the superman/zod fight and the human impact it has had. This also really made me support Bruce Wayne and he hatred of superman due to the destruction and loss of live in that whole opening.
With that in mind the dream or nightmare sequences involving Bruce Wayne I thought were absolutely fantastic and cleverly made. The parts that stand out for me are the graves pouring with blood with the bat jumping out, which even made me scared and makes me wonder about the 12A rating ( in the UK ). Also the desert sequences with the omega symbol and Parademons, hinting at Darkseid, is absolute comic book film gold. Dark, gritty and visually stunning as well as fulfilling the dawn of justice part of the title in this film. The final dream sequence involved the Flash, which I was pleasantly surprised by, was again foreshadowing the future of the universe whilst introducing us the Ezra Miller as the flash. I thought it looked visually stunning and helped the story, and maybe not just for this film is Zack Snyder hinting at the Flashpoint comic.
The middle part of the film unfortunately it is erm…………..a little bit boring and too convoluted. This unfortunately falls on the head of screenwriter Chris Terrio which I was very pleased by his acquisition. The film in the middle part is messy, with a lot of individual stories being told at once. What the studio should of done is had all these stories with amazing potential and let them have their own film. For example Superman dealing with the consequences of the fight with General Zod. This one and others could have and should have been given more time to be stretched out so the audience could be more engaged in the story, especially for the controversial ending of this film.
Finally after about 140 minutes into the film we get what wanted, Batman v Superman. Well is it really Batman v Superman or is it just Batman against Superman, because from what I can see Superman doesn't have as strong a dislike towards batman as batman does towards him. Especially considering that the only reason he has flown to Batman is so he can convince him to team up and fight Lex Luthor, so superman never really wanted to fight Batman that much. However the fight itself once again is pure comic book gold, it is dark and brutal and truly fantastic. Is it a little too short? Did we see too much of it in the trailers? The answer to those questions is probably, doesn't mean that I didn't have a smile from ear to ear whilst watching it. The climax of the fight is batman holding the kryptonite spire ready to kill superman, however due to the shortness of the fight and the build up before it the emotion of the scene in my view doesn't hit home as my as it should. This again is to do with the screenplay of the film and the up and down pacing of the film, because they so desperately want to get onto the dawn of justice part of the film. The MAIN reason for Bruce not to kill superman is because both there mothers share the same name!!!!!!!!!………….come on Warner bros and DC really is that the best you could come up with. Throughout the film batman has had this clear hatred towards superman, which was handled brilliantly, and then with a flick of a switch they are best friends because there mothers share the same name. I would of been fine with it if they had batman and superman share a little bit a dialogue between each other explaining the situation that they are in, and superman convincing batman why he is not his enemy.
Fast forwarding the final fight with doomsday looks amazing but yet again doesn't carry much emotion weight to the scenes because it is rushed. The introduction of wonder woman was a incredible scene of the film and well worth a watch. The film includes a number of great references to the Dark Knight Returns and The Death of Superman, which is done really nicely. I believe that the decision of “killing” Superman was very ballsy by Zack Snyder but effective , although we know he will be alive for Justice League Part One next year. All in all this is a good film with a number of plot errors and focusing too much on setting up future films.

I'm surprise at the negative reaction from some people. This film is better than most of the X-Men films (with the except of maybe Days of Future Past) and it is better than Age of Ultron, Iron Man 2 and 3, Thor: The Dark World, and any of the transformers movies. We get he best version of Batman on film to date (which is not easy task after Nolan/Bale); we get and enigmatic and powerful female hero in Wonder Woman, a simple but effective setup for the Justice League, and a great final battle. The visuals are awesome, the score powerful (love the Wonder Woman track) and the Easter eggs are plentiful if you are a DC fan. Lex could be controversial, but even then it is better than all previous cinematic version of Lex combined. Some people may get lost if they don't pay attention, it is unapologetically a super hero movie. Overall, the movie is entertaining (didn't even feel the 2+ hours) and it is successful in setting up the dawn of the Justice League. See it for yourself, it is well worth the price of admission. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My actual score is an 8.5 out of 10 and my oh my what a doozy it has been with the split between people loving it, and the contrary. I have spent more than an adequate amount of time reading reviews from all over the internet whether it be from a critic or the audience. The critics reviews seem to be copying one another, with saying things like, "it is incoherent in the first half". "There isn't much fun to be had". The tone is too grim throughout leaving it "humorless". It is "swept over by visual effects reducing a powerful story". My opinion after seeing this malarkey time and time again from these so called professional movie reviewers, is that they have fallen into a cacophony of Marvel formula style superhero movies. I would bet on the fact that if this film were to have been released near the time frame of when Marvel was building up to 2012's Avengers, that the current reviews would be drastically different and more positive because most of these critics are allowing themselves to sink into a specific tone that has been set for how superhero movies are to supposedly be made throughout the past 8 years.

BvS was a great way to start up the DC universe, aside from some plot "inquiries" I will call them instead of "holes". Narratively speaking, the switch from Batman trying to crush Superman to then saving his mother could have been built up in a stronger fashion. In real time of the film itself, this switch feels too abrupt since there wasn't enough story to back up the fact that not only was Batman afraid of what Superman might become leading him to feel as though he needed to be confronted, but that there is also a sense needed of Superman becoming an ally. This was one of the biggest points that failed a lot of the audience. Him simply siding with Superman in lieu of deep-seated emotional trauma wasn't just enough to make it fully believable. Especially since he was seconds from cutting his head off with that spear. Why not include Batman accepting both possibilities (friend or foe) throughout the film? Other than that flaw, pretty much all other complaints on the plot seem to be either asinine or forgivable due to the fact that only so much can be crammed into one film before moans of longevity accumulate.

The other mentionable up sides to this Zack Snyder film, are by far the overall performances of our three heroes. Affleck received much hate prior to the film's production, and to no surprise of my own, was he excellent. In addition, the costume for Batman is probably my favorite of any previous iteration. Cavill reprised his role, and brought what he was given (directively speaking) to full potential. I love his interpretation and look for Superman. He is what Hugh Jackman is to Wolverine, the perfectly cast actor for the job. And oh how I want to see Superman use his ice breath! This is two installments now without as little as much of a puff, from this distinguishing ability. Also, some more of those distinct Superman uppercuts where he clasps his hands together, wouldn't hurt either. Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot brings magic to the screen with this first live action portrayal in a blockbuster film. It was a very exciting moment to see her presence finally embrace the big screen. Worth noting, is the score specifically made for her character; it was one of the best I have heard for any hero yet. Maybe even on par with Hans Zimmer's prior work on the Dark Knight. Aside from the heroes, Jesse Eisenberg's take on Luthor had me convinced of his lunacy and ultimate strive for his ability to be amongst the powerful demigod that is his main rival, Superman.

Overall, I am perplexed by the amount of negative feedback from some people but am one of many that happened to love this film. Looking forward to a second viewing. Congratulations to the cast and crew behind this large step for the DC cinematic universe. Thanks for reading.

Overall this films was absolutely exhilarating visually and auditory, story was very keen and interesting, but there was just way too much going on. Character wise, this movie had it all. Batman was absolutely thrilling (gave me goosebumps), superman is well surprisingly better represented, lex luthor was well crazy, awkward, weird but still decent, wonder woman played out tremendously and Doomsday is just good enough. So for those of like DC comics, Over-the-top action sequences followed up by Snyder's directorial vision and few easter eggs (*cough *cough Joker) and plot holes, here and there. Then this is the FILM FOR YOU...... if not however just watch it, you're bound to enjoy it either ways.
P.S no I'm not a fan of Marvel nor DC comics. I'm a fan of Darkhorse :)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Given the studio's expectations, The film is as good as it could be. People accusing it to be "gritty" or "dark", have to understand this is not some cheesy family friendly superhero flick like Avengers and such, there's not prince charming awakening the sleeping beauty and no happy ending. The movie is targeted to a much more mature audience, and you should keep that in mind even before sitting down in the theater. Expand

I felt that Batman had reached his peak with the Dark Knight Rises and it would all be destroyed by this movie and Ben Affleck. I did not like the guy and his acting.

The movie surprised me, a lot. Everyone in the cast did a really good job. What amazed me the most was that Affleck showed us another side of Batman. Bale's Batman has one rule, Affleck's Batman has no rules. He will kill the bad boys.

The movie is gritty and dark, and it is only the PG13/Teen version. I cannot wait for the R version coming out this summer. I feel like the PG13 ruins super hero movies because nobody can die and it is all a bunch of fighting with their fists, but Znyder really distances Justice League from the Avengers' family friendly appeal.

I wish that Wonder Woman had entered the movie earlier, however, I guess she was kept till the end to "force" people to watch her own off-shoot movie. It is all about money people.

The poor ratings by the critics compared with the viewers' rating show once again that critics live in a bubble where they must distance themselves and remain the elite. Do not listen to their reviews. Look at what other people have said instead.

The only bad thing I can say about the movie is that there seems to be some loop holes in the story. I think that they cut too much content out of the PG13 version that the R rated version might do better. We will have to see.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a very fun movie to watch, at least action wise. It really is a pretty good film. It sure has its glaring issues, which are pretty cringeworthy and immediately spot-able when you watch the film, but in the end, I came out of the theater with mostly positive thoughts. Lex Luthor in the film isn't done as the comic book counterpart, he was more like The Riddler (from Batman Forever) or The Joker, but a very crazy, and somewhat silly Joker. The ending is so emotional, which I won't spoil! Batman is absolutely amazing and the best part of the film, without a shadow of a doubt. Doomsday, unfortunately, looks really bad and (minor spoilers) just kept on exploding, which kinda took me out of the experience. This is a pretty dark film, with one scene which was incredibly funny and I laughed very loudly - great humor in one scene! Also, in the first hour there were quite a bit of boring scenes, but they drove the story forward so I can't say anything. This film is worth watching, but if you don't know too much about these characters or anything, you might not like it AS MUCH as I did. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman v Superman Review, Minor Spoilers
___________________________________

The producers of Batman v. Superman try very hard to produce a very good quality film (or even a great film). The final product is entertaining to a certain extent, but to be honest, it misses the mark. To me the film is worth about 7 out of 10 largely because the picture/ cinematography is very good, the action scenes are good, and most of the actors do a very good job (the one exception being Jesse Eisenberg). Also every DC comic book fan is going to love seeing Batman, Superman and Wonderwoman on the big screen. This film excels in using references from other DC movies or referring to other DC characters. The casting (with the exception of Jesse Eisenberg) is very good. Also the movie manages to achieve good diversity in casting because even though none of the major 3 or 4 characters are visible minorities, there are several visible minorities, with speaking parts in this movie.

The major problems with this movie have to do with: (1) the story, (2) a failure to capitalize on the emotional moments in the story, (3) a poorly conceived Lex Luther character, which is poorly explained and (4) the casting of Lex Luther.

(1) The Story The story is not intelligent enough. The story needed to make sense. Many things could have been better explained or better written. For example: Batman and Superman are both supposed to be the good guys. In order to get these guys hating each other you should have a really plausible explanation. The explanation provided in the movie is not plausible. Batman's hatred of Superman in the movie comes across as petty, jealous, egocentric, and maybe even a little childish.

Another thing that does not make sense: how can Superman hear one of his close associates in danger, but someone else (another associate for example) is in danger and Superman does not hear this.

They needed to come up with a better explanation as to how Lex Luther creates that thing that he creates.

There should have been a better explanation in the movie as to why Lex Luther was opposed to Superman and/or Batman.

(2) A Failure to Capitalize on the Emotional Moments in the Story

For example, there is a catastrophic scene (I am not going to spoil it for you). The director and story writers should have milked this scene so that audience would experience the following: shock, awe, crying, for a prolonged period of several minutes. Instead the audience experiences a very brief moment of shock.

(3) A Poorly Conceived Lex Luther Character, which is Poorly Explained

Lex Luther is presented as a pathological character whose personality is extremely similar to that of the Joker as played by Heat Ledger in the 2nd Chris Nolan Batman movie. Nobody needed to see Lex Luther pretend to be the Joker, which is what we got. (In that Chris Nolan movie, the Joker is a well written Character. When he speaks the audience almost finds itself agreeing with him 75 % percent of the time because he accurately points out some of the flaws in modern society and he artfully mixes lies with the truth.) Lex Luther needed to have a different personality. He needed to have his own personality, not the Joker's.

The Lex Luther character would have made more sense as a Machiavellian, psychological manipulator with political ambitions (think of Kevin Spacey's character in House of Cards, but played by a younger actor).

We never get a good explanation of what Lex Luthor plans to do once he gets rid of Superman and/or Batman.

(4) The Casting of Lex Luthor

As mentioned above, the Lex Luthor character presented in this movie is essentially the same personality as the Joker character from the second Chris Nolan Batman movie. No one needed to see Jesse Eisenberg play this character. Jesse Eisenberg is really not good in this role. Perhaps it is too much type-casting on the part of those who did the casting, but this was a really bad choice.

Overall the writers of these movies need to always keep in mind that they are writing these movies for intelligent adults and not just for 4 year olds.

As I was watching it, I realized early on that it was actually engaging me in a different way than the usual superhero movies. This is not your typical summer movie superhero formula movie. It actually requires you to think! The Cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, you'll notice it just from the intro sequence. Very nice sophisticated color palettes are in every frame and the movie is just technically very well done. I loved the story and the the many layers that were built into it. The storytelling was top-notch, a lot of actually respecting the viewers' intelligence to connect the dots. The action sequences are one-of-a-kind. You won't find any superhero movie coming close to it (maybe Man of Steel). There's more to the movie than just a superhero fight (but it's there, of course). There's a good amount of really well acted build up to the grand clash.

The acting is on a different calibre! Top notch work from everyone. Ben Affleck's Batman just topped Christian Bale's (not making light of Bale) in my book and Lois and Clark are actually depicted like the ones I grew up with in the mid 80's. Gal Gadot is a scene stealer and Holly Hunter and Eisenberg have some of the most intense and memorable scenes together. Jeremy Irons is an awesome Alfred. Laurence Fishbourne does an even better job at being Perry White in this movie than Man of Steel.

Check the movie out for yourself.

The film isBatman v Superman was doomed from the start. Not only did it have to live up to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, but it also was always going to be compared to Marvel's Avengers, all while having to be fresh and original. The film is no where near as terrible as most critics are making it out to be, but it's biggest flaw is that it is not a 'great' film. BvS was under pressure to please both Avengers and Dark Knight fans, so anything less then perfect would not please fans.

The movie has too much to explain and too little time to do so. Most of the film revolves around explaining origins and past events, rather then letting the films events play out. A Batman origin movie would of helped with this, allowing them to introduce Ben Affleck's Batman while explaining his back story then releasing the cross-over movie. I also dont care for the casting of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, as I always saw Eisenberg rather then Luthor. Most importantly, BvS spends too much time setting up the DC extended universe, instead of being a good stand alone film.

Batman V Superman is not a terrible movie and I recommend it to all comic book fans. But it is also a messy film with a ridiculous run time of 2hr 33min for a superhero movie. I thought Ben Affleck's Batman was great and it is worth going to see the movie for the fight scenes alone. But in the end Batman V Superman is an average film, not an amazing one.

I appreciated it for what it was, and it brought me the 2 biggest superhero icons on the big screen with Wonder Women (the biggest female superhero also). A lot of people had the problem with pre-conceived notions of how Batman and Superman are suppose to be. This is a different take on the heroes, and if people cannot accept that, then of course it will get negativity. There were some plot problems but the action was awesome. There is more depth to this movie than people realize. I could go on and write pages about my thoughts on it. But it is not a bad movie, it did put a lot of content into one movie.. But this should not get a low rating as it has. Real comic book fans and fans of DC's top 3 heroes can appreciate the comic references this movie gives. This is a different take on the heroes and it is darker, but I liked it. I loved Man of Steel and I probably am in the minority, but it should not be compared to Marvel. Two totally different things. Zack Snyder definitely did his homework and provides a strong plot without gimmicks, holes, or ridiculous improbability. The tie in to the battle with Zod from Superman Returns was seamless, and Batman's reaction was explained well and believable. I actually felt like I was agreeing with both sides of the Batman v Superman conflict, which is a huge testament to the masterful writing. Luthor's plot is witty and compliments the other plotlines. Doomsday's origin may upset the fanboys, but is perfect for this adaptation. The action sequences were exciting and satisfying but without excess, and maintained believability without targeting only the "wow factor". Cgi looks great and not comical.

Snyder avoids the pitfall of selling the actors, not the story. I was doubtful going in, but Affleck is a great Batman, keeping his performance dark and understated - true to character and without any of the "look at me" or smirkiness that ruined Clooney and Kilmer's past attempts. Cavill is a dynamite Superman (again), who certainly exudes the farm boy absolute goodness and inner conflict of the role without making the audience choke on it, while also physically matching the role better than Reeves ever did. Eisenberg personifies the brilliance, ego, and hidden boldness of Luthor without tainting the role with the comedy and insecurity for which he's known. I sincerely hope these actors continue these roles!

The one place where the movie misses the mark, however, is the female casting. Amy Adams still doesn't sell as Superman's love interest (too plain, maybe?), but I appreciate the continuity from the first movie. Gal Gadot definitely has the face for Wonder Woman, but not the body of an amazon goddess. With Cavill and Affleck adding serious muscle to look the part, it is impossible to not notice the contrast of how skinny Wonder Woman is, which makes her fight scenes less believable. Finally, just like in Superman Returns, Major Carrie Farris, USAF, is an annoying and unnecessary character indulgence that falls flat on its face. (Is she Snyder's girlfriend or something?)

This is a great example of what superhero movies can be. I will definitely buy this movie.

Having seen the film twice now, I think I'm ready to pass my judgement (for what it's worth).

As an avid fan of superheroes movies--and Superman and Batman in particular--but not so much the of comics medium that originally spawned them, I came to BATMAN VS SUPERMAN (BvS) from a different perspective than many of the critics who reviewed the movie poorly. Many of the negative comments I've seen are certainly valid, which is why I've rated the film an 8/10 as I have, but at the same time they do seem to have missed the point of this movie.

BvS has clearly set out to achieve two things:

1. To set up about 10 different story arcs for various future movies
2. To set the tone for all of those movies, where that tone is gritty and as realistic as they could make them

Regarding the first point, that the film sets up many future stories, I think they were supremely ambitious but misguided, and this indeed seems to be the source of most of the criticism--particularly those that I agree with. They have, to my mind, tried to squeeze too much into a single movie, which at times causes the story to become obscured, and there is way too much use of overly stylised content. On a second watching, most things are actually pretty well telegraphed, if you watch closely, so I have come to forgive the things that, on first viewing, appeared to be plot missteps. Nonetheless, I still think they tried to do too much in the one movie, and could have stood to stretch it out into two or even three movies.

Regarding the second point, though, that they have tried to set a gritty and as realistic tone for the DC movies that follow, I think they have done something I have long wanted to see. They have created a real-world view into a universe where people like Superman and Batman exist.

The world of BvS feels real to the mature viewer, which is something no previous interpretation of Superman has achieved, and something that Nolan's Batman series lost with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

But for all that I enjoy this mature new take, it seems that's the issue some people, particularly the self-proclaimed comics aficionados, have with it: it's maturity. The whining I've seen around geekdom about how "Superman doesn't kill!" or "Batman doesn't kill" has always struck me as juvenile thinking, a child clinging to a bygone period of their lives where Evil was always defeated by Good, and there were no shades of grey between.

To a mature viewer, that world is childish, and ultimately makes for dull and pedestrian viewing--as evidence, I submit the 1970s and '80s SUPERMAN movies (if you have you tried watching them recently, I think you'll know what I mean).

There's also this: in the real world, people like Superman and Batman would inevitably kill normal humans with grim regularity _by accident_, not necessarily intent. You can't read the news these days without a story about how someone fell awkwardly in a bar fight, hit his head and died. Add in all the serious hardware Batman has long thrown about, from the humble batarang to his more explosive toys, and the idea that he has not killed is beyond ludicrous. And that's just Batman...Superman, whose body is supposedly harder than steel, turns this equation up to 11--even a relatively soft punch from such a being would be like being hit by a crowbar. Now picture that crowbar hitting you on the head reasonably hard, and you can see why I think Superman has killed.

Yes, I think it's fair to say that, in the real world, someone like Batman or Superman would indeed kill people, and they'd kill often. So I challenge those who disagree to take off their rose-tinted glasses view of Batman's and Superman's world and ask yourself how could they possibly avoid killing people.

I don't believe they could, and I'm very happy to finally see a Superman and Batman interpretation that does not flinch from that.

Batman is amazing, Superman is okay, Wonder Women is great, but Lex Luthor was a bit too cartoon- ish.
The script was messy at parts, but some moments were great at parts. Ben Affleck brings the best
performance we seen from him, and so does Gal Gadot. It's good to know we get a shared DC Universe, with shared characters. Zack Snyder visuals fell very comic book-ish. The soundtrack was too great.
But the end felt to jumbled and the big bad guy was a dumb destructive monster that was killed in 2 seconds. But the end was risky so it feels necessary for DC is about to start. But man did I have a good time, and I want to witness this type of experience again!

It was great! Really. I liked the symbolism. I loved the graphics. I loved the hints and clues to other movies, but heres what I loved about the movie most. I cant imagine myself living in the Marvel universe. But I could totally imagine myself in the DC universe. Ironically, its because Synder managed to make me feel so helpless in the face of his heroes.. as I should be i guess. Batman was a little less relatable because the batman I loved "NEVER" made mistakes and "ALWAYS" had a trick up his sleeve. He just seemed a little weaker here. I'd definitely watch it again! Expand

Despite some editing and pacing issues, this easily became one of my favourite comic book films.

The film itself is quite dark, with very little humour. However this isn't necessarily a bad thing, the moments of humour were well done in my opinion, and the dark tone very much suited the story it was trying to tell.

Dialogue was on point, a huge improvement over Goyer's Man of Steel script. Even though you can tell that Terrio did not have much story input, he definitely improved the dialogue of the initial script. (Hence why Goyer is still credited)

Acting performances were 10/10, with Affleck getting a honourable mention as being my favourite live-action Batman yet. Eisenberg did well in his role of Lex Luthor in terms of the way the character was written. This iteration of Lex is very different to that of his comic book counterpart. More psychopath than egocentric genius, however it is a version that I very much enjoyed considering the overall plot. Gal Gadot showed a lot of promise as our first proper big-screen Wonder Woman. Even though we got a little taste of her, it certainly got me excited for her standalone film next year. (Plus she kicked ass!)

There were some issues for me personally with certain scenes not living up to expectations (mainly the court room sequence), as well as Superman/Clark's quarrel with Batman not being fully explored. In hindsight, it really felt like a rushed back-door pilot for the Justice League.

As a whole, it felt like 2 movies in one and felt more like Dawn of Justice rather than Batman v Superman.

With all that being said, it is still a great film with some obvious issues. Definitely a must-watch for anyone considering you go in with an open-mind. Don't expect this movie to be light-hearted and/or similar to previous iterations of Batman and Superman from live-action movies.

This review is for the Ultimate Edition:

The first time I saw BvS, I was a little disappointed. I expected the film to be something it wasn't. The second viewing was much better. I knew what to expect, and so enjoyed the film much more for what it was: flawed, but immensely entertaining. Some of those flaws are ironed out in the Ultimate Edition, some of them aren't.

The Ultimate Edition is absolutely a better version of the film, but it doesn't make it a different film altogether. Many of the scenes play out better, Superman's part in the film is more fleshed out, and the whole thing just has a better flow. That being said, I don't know anyone whose opinions it changed. The people who enjoyed the film before enjoyed the Ultimate Edition even more. The people who hated it, still hated it.

If you were on the fence about BvS, definitely check this edition out! It may change your mind. If you were a fan, I'm sure you've already seen it. If you hated it, you don't need to waste your time on the Ultimate Edition.

Opening credits show the Waynes death. Not much to say about that except please let it be the last time ( Also did you know Batmans mums name is Martha, it's super important). The movie starts of with a bang. Watching the new Bruce Wayne ( you know Ben Affleck plays him) run through the city as Man of steel rages above him is genuinely cool. It gives credence to why Batman has a grudge against this guy who in part was responsible for the destruction of a city and how he was personally effected by what happened at Wayne tower. The scene did have a weird bit where apparently the employees would not evacuate unless Bruce said so, this leads me to assume Wayne industries has some really strict employment rules but whatever. After this the film nose dives into over an hour incoherently strung together scenes which set out about five sub plots which the films struggles to wrestle together until Lex Luthor blows up the senate and shouts go beat up Batman. Whatever happened in Africa is forgotten about the debate about what is the role of Superman becomes obsolete, as everyone in the film who cared about that plot died. The titular bout ends up being forced. Any reason to why superman would really want to take on Batman is thrown out as soon as his mum is captured by Lex and Batman is never shown to be a character who people think can take superman. Going into the film I expected a a build up through out the film where people are almost arguing like kids on a play ground to who would win in a fight, Superman or the myth that is Batman. Instead Batman is mostly ignored by everyone in the movie with any mention of his name being met with disinterest. No one was contemplating that the crime fighter from Gotham could be the one who goes toe to toe with a god, but that what kryptonite is for I guess. Despite this, as far as fight choreography goes Zach Snyder knows what he is doing. The fight is easy to follow epic in feel and ended by the word Marther. That kind of cuts short would should have been a longer fight. It should also be noted that this is not a Superman film, it is a Batman film. Why no one can make a Superman without giving most of the attention to either Lois or another supporting character is beyond me, but most of the time is spent with a very grumpy Bruce Wayne. Ben Affleck does a fine job in the role but he is not playing Batman. The interpretation of his character kills, he brands people, he shoots guns. Gone is the morale compass and determination to not become just another criminal that 75 years of comics has given us. What left is a character from watchmen, it's a brutal interpretation of the icon which I wouldn't mind so much if this wasn't what we were getting in what is going to be the definitive set of DC films. Superman is left with less screen time to be grumpy and literally has a bomb go off in his face when his time to talk comes, which is frustrating as Henry Cavill needs his time to shine as the Character and just is not been given a lot to do. Lois Lane is shoe horned in wherever possible to try and keep the many threads of the plot in the air, however for all the screen time she gets I feel her part could be cut from the film and nothing much would change. Congratulations to Gal Gadot, who despite being barely in this film made me excited for Wonder Woman. More on the last fight in a bit but without saying much at all she stood out as a great character. The villains of this film are a weak point on what was already very thin ice. Jesse Eisenberg must have been told to act like a cross between the Riddler and Mark Zuckerberg so can't blame him for the result but seriously it was bad. In this universe where all the heroes seem to be in need of anti depressants, I hope they don't make the same trend of all villains being pulled straight out of Looney tunes. The idea did not work and needs to be toned down. All I can say about Dooms day is he looks like a cave troll and why did he keep exploding? By the time Bats and supes have bonded over their mums sharing a name and Batman has murdered everyone to save Martha the finale fight begins. Dooms day comes exploding....... I'm bored, this movie is devoid of energy and direction. The set up to future films were forced, cheap and nonsensical at times and all an it was kind of **** Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was it good? Maybe. Batman V Superman is not a bad movie even though there are many bad reviews about it. There are not many jokes (which makes it kind of somber) but the story is still sort of good. One of the problems was the way the Batman V Superman fight ended. I do not believe that just because their mothers share the same name they should stop the biggest action scene of the movie. It was ridiculous. Another problem was that it took extremely long for any real action to start. I'm not saying that the first hour or so of the movie is boring, but it definitely isn't exciting. However, when there was action, it was pretty good. Overall, I think the movie was okay, but it definitely could have been better. Expand

But i admit that it did feel rushed and the editing could have been done better, its clear that this movie had a lot more footage footage that could've have helped people understand the plot more without needing parts of it explained to them. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is really just a victim of its studios decision to make it 2hrs 30mins long.

Batman v superman is an excellent movie that might just be beyond its time it is filled with symbolism the makes up for the rushed feeling of the movie.

Eisenberg is what people also dont understand, he is the son of Lex Luthor, only at the end of the movie the Lex we know is born. He has the knowledge of Darkseid coming and even in the movie he says "Books are knowledge and knowledge is power" Doomsday could have done better, felt like a meat shield but that is not a bad thing, just saying it could have been better.

This movie made me very excited for the upcoming DCEU (DC Extended Universe). And I cant wait for the directors cut in July.

Snyder, though known for delivering flops, hit the ball out of the park with BvS:DoJ. I loved the film. I was entirely entertained, never felt the plot to be confusing, overly-fast nor contrived, and the acting was stellar, even in the case of the usually stoic and robotic Henry Cavill. The negative reviews for this film are in no way deserved, and even though the box office returns may have Warner Bros. worried, I as a fan am extremely excited for all the upcoming entries in the DC Universe.

8/10 only due to a few moments where Snyder (typically) over-used the slow motion effects and a few scenes that felt cut short. I'm amped for the release of the 3-hour Director's Cut this summer, as I believe almost all of the flaws to this otherwise fantastic movie will be resolved once Snyder has been given the ability to tell his story without the Studio's demand of a run-time or rating which would expand the audience.

I totally understand the criticisms and some of the negative backlash is to be expected when it comes to Dawn of Justice. There is not a lot of joy in this film or in the two main legendary superhero characters in Superman and Batman. There are some people that want Superman and Batman to be portrayed in certain ways. This movie treats it's main heroes seriously. Some would say too seriously. This film is great. The acting is superb, The visuals, dark but fitting and the score is tremendous. Both heroes are so compelling in this movie. Superman isn't at his highest point yet. He is still essentially a rookie superhero in this universe, struggling to accept himself and be accepted by others. Just like his father Jor El told him in Man of Steel. They will stumble and fall but one day they will join you in the sun.... Batman on the other hand is at his absolute lowest point. He's a 20 year vigilante who has become bitter and cruel. He's lost his way. "Criminals are like weeds, You pull one out and another grows in it's place". That line gives you an example of how far he has fallen. By movies end, Superman spiritually saves Batman. Batman admits that he failed in Superman in life but will not fail him in death.. To honor and redeem himself, He embarks on putting together, The Justice League. This is Batman and Superman at their darkest before their dawn. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Critics were hating this movie when the film came out. If you go on rotten tomatoes then you'll see that it's currently 27% on rotten tomatoes. Me as a huge superhero fan didn't give a **** about what the critics said. So i went to see Batman V Superman and i enjoyed it. Is it the best superhero movie ever made? No, but it's definitely one of the best in my opinion. So what did i like about the movie? One is Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. He was the best thing in the entire movie and he had some bad ass scenes. Two is the action. It was spectacular and my personal favorite action scene was where Batman goes to a warehouse and just kicks a bunch of ass for about 4 minutes. Three is the rest of the cast. They did great as their characters, even though i thought that Jesse Eisenberg was a Joker like character rather than Lex Luthor but i'll let that pass. Now let's get to the cons of the movie. I didn't really like what Doomsday looked like and i thought it was WAY too early to introduce him. Also, i thought the fight between Batman and Superman was too short. The movie is called Batman V Superman and they only fight for like 10 minutes! Another one is that I didn't really like how there was TOO much cgi at the final battle and could of used a little more stunts. One more thing is that they kill off Superman. Yeah, you heard me, he dies and he was just introduced in the previous movie. Like what were they thinking? I know he's gonna get resurrected in the Justice League movie but why would they do this?? Overall, i think it was a well made superhero movie, even if it does have some problems, and it doesn't deserve so much hate by critics. I think, in my opinion, the movie was made for the fans, not the critics. I enjoyed this movie and i can't wait to watch it again! Expand

It's like since the moment it was announced many people wanted it to be a big failure, but for me it wasn't. It's not perfect, obviously, and it's far away from TDK and Watchmen, and although it has it's flaws it's still great. It fulfilled my expectations of what should a DC movie be like. Anyways, I would be lying if this was the movie I expected. I was hoping for it to be a 10 but it's a very good 8.

Back to the unjustified criticism. This movie was not made for the critics, obviously and it wasn't made for all the audience, but seriously, do I have to read such things like that the movie isn't fun? It's DC, it's not supposed to be fun. I wasn't expecting jokes between their punches like in The Avengers or other MCU films. On the other side, those who say that there are some un comprehensible things I just got one thing to say to you: Please, wait for the R version. Zack Snyder is famous for his very violent films, and a R version with 30 minutes of additional feature could give you the movie you wanted.

Batman v Superman is a dark, hopeful and sometimes crazy adventure. The theatrical cut is very lackluster but the director's cut is simply breath-taking.

Superman and Batman's characterization are both realistic and grounded BUT still feels like like comic versions but in a more modern world setting: It's good to see Clark/Kal-el struggle with the power that he has and his duty to mankind, which some iterrations of the character missed in previous adaptation.Batman, he, feels straight out of the graphic novel: TDKR, he thinks Superman is as much of a criminal as Zod is and he is the litteral incarnation of Johnathon Kent's quote: People fear what they don't understand.

Overall the movie is good, certain plot points are left out , but luckily: the UE is much more cohesive.
The fight between B-Man and S-Man is rough, Lex is crazy like the SM:BR version which is great to see a different version, and Wonder Woman just....... Takes the cake.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DISCLAIMER: My review is on the Ultimate Edition of BvS, not the theatrical version.

BvS is one of the most controversial underrated superhero movies out there. The worst injustice done to BvS is the fact that so many people decided not to go see it just because of negative reviews online. A message to said people: Hike up your skirt and go see it, and don't just listen to what other people say. You have to go and see it yourself, then form your own opinion on it. That's how it works. Don't just go by what some critics say, because they are neither right nor wrong. So anyway, about the actual movie. Before I do an actual analysis, let me just summarize by saying I would give the theatrical cut of BvS a 6/10, and I would give the Ultimate Edition of it a solid 8/10, hence my rating for this review. Let's do a pros/cons analysis for this movie, just because I feel like it:

PROS
- Visually speaking, BvS is the best damn superhero movie in existence. Kicks Marvel's ass. End of discussion. What else is to expect from Zack Snyder?
- Ben Affleck is hands down the most amazing live-action Batman we have ever gotten, and probably ever will get. Everything about him is spot-on and amazing: The Batsuit, the Armored Batsuit, Alfred (a class all on his own), The Batmobile, Batwing, and most of all his brooding character.
- The portrayal of Superman in this universe may not be as legendary as Batfleck's, but is still easily the best portrayal of Superman ever.
- Wonder Woman. 'Nuff said.
- Justice League cameos get me really excited, especially as a huge DC comics fan.
CONS
- While this film does have a wealth of awesome epic fight scenes, you don't really get to see much of Batman and Superman actually fighting, except for the one 8-minute fight scene between them. That scene is still epic, though.
- Storytelling and plot may not be completely bland, cliche and over-simplistic like many Marvel movies, however it just feels a little too overambitious with the storytelling and has too much of an overstuffed plot.
- Doesn't have much character development involved.

Overall, BvS does have its flaws, but is still a pretty solid movie. There is one more thing I want to address: The "Martha thing". See, everyone hated this movie because they thought Batman only spared Superman because their moms had the same name. I can assure you, that's NOT the case. Batman spared Clarke because he thought that Superman was an evil alien out to destroy Earth, but now that Superman is saying such a relatable human name, Batman starts to realize that maybe he's not what Bruce thought he was. Bruce wasn't able to save his mother that night as a kid, now he is getting the chance to save someone else's mother who coincidentally has the same name. So that's cleared up. One more thing: If you saw the theatrical version and didn't like it, I implore you to watch the Ultimate Edition. The story is cleaner, neater, and flows a lot smoother. Great movie.

It seems Warner Bros. is in a real hurry to reveal their comic book universe on the screen, thus already in their second movie they throw two the most iconic DC characters in a clash. However, even so accomplished visionary like Zack SnyderIt seems Warner Bros. is in a real hurry to reveal their comic book universe on the screen, thus already in their second movie they throw two the most iconic DC characters in a clash. However, even so accomplished visionary like Zack Snyder and his team failed to reach the bar, set by comic book genre and under the heap of visual effect and expressly darkness there's buried not much, because nor story, nor drama can't satisfy even in general. Moreover, careless editing and rambling screenplay harm for acceptance of positive moments.

The film starts with Bruce Wayne's parent's death and funeral scene. Such trivial opening expresses, that what you're about to see is pretty lateral and boring. On the other side, without it, Batman's motives would be not just stretched, but in absence. And it's a problem of whole movie, especially if it take into consideration that it's based on a conflict between different sides. So, no one's side position is normally justified. Whether it's Lex Luthor, who hates Superman so much, that are ready to create monster of mass-destruction and play with alien technologies, or a grumpy billionaire, who's building was destroyed during the alien invasion and now he's possessed by the idea of killing humanity's savior only because of some kind of a prejudice. In some way, there can be made parallels with Lex's mentioned childhood issues and Batman's painful experiences, but nothing of that is explained more than for a little glimpse in a whole scenario. Otherwise, Chris Terrio's script isn't bad at all, as its partially filled with some sort of drama or suspense, but it seems like it should be a multiple times longer and what we see in movie is a rough cut of it. Indeed, film is full of different story lines and characters and they are so unbalanced and intricate. So you just getting bored by all that mess, because nothing is being interpreted on cinema language and you're continuing to watch clips from different movies at the same time. Eventually, visually film looks pretty stunning, despite on its excessive dark tone. However, even this side screwed by two things. First - the lack of action, which starts approximately only in the second half, so to this moment, after all of its gloom, you are waiting of something really amazing, but what you're getting, it's «not really». Second - all actions scenes are spoiled buy enormous quantity of GCI, even where it's unnecessary. Moreover it's not so cool, as it can be. At the same time, scene of Batman rampage closer to the third act is quiet impressive, although a bit ruined by character's unreasonable savageness to his enemies. No one argues that Batman is one of the most brutal DC heroes, but in this movie he goes real mad without any, at least explained, reasons. At the same time exactly Batman's shape reaches the needed minimum within character development. Of courses, his motives are truly unknown and as a Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck is too grim or just hasn't enough time to show himself in all his glory, but there is a feeling, that after David S. Goyer left script to Terrio, Oscar-winning screenwriter started to develop screenplay especially for his friend Affleck, because In some way, film oriented on his hero, neither on others. And it's obvious, as Superman's character story takes much less time and concentrated almost on mash-ups and «catchphrases». The same thing happens to others heroes, even for well-acting Jeremy Irons' Alfred and very intriguing Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Nevertheless, film fully failed to develop any of its characters. Especially, it effects badly on Jessy Isenberg's Lex Luther, who is interesting and a great-played character, but, due to the script, seems to become just another freaked genius with Joker style manners and actions. «Man of Steel» wasn't really a great movie, but it gave a solid boost for the universe expansion. Unfortunately, «Batman v Superman» didn't reach any of its goals. However, film's not a total fiasco and if try to perceive it by parts, even some value can be found, but in summary it only continues first movie's problems and buries powerful ideas under the mass of rough storytelling, weak character development and excess of visual effects.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

What was Supes supposed to do,ask him to change the venue to Montana or Wyoming? Much the same happens here in DoJ,the battle begins in the city and there is bound to be collateral damage !People in the Christopher Reeve films often paid with their (imagined) lives,so there's nothing that sets those films apart on that score. Like MoS,this presents a dark, more mature view of of our superheroes, who themselves are more complicated, less 2 dimensional characters than those imagined decades ago by their creators, and this is something some fans don't like . Each to their own .
The Ultimate Edition fleshes out a lot of rough edges from the Theatrical version making for a much more rounded tale, although Batman's sudden change of heart in his one on one with Superman is a little jarring and still a weak point, but what the hell,no film is beyond criticism it's just a shame this has drawn so much . Vastly superior to The Farce Awakens (which millions seem to enjoy )in terms of plot ,character motivation, acting etc etc .
Watch MoS and then this straight after and so many little nuances become far clearer, making for a good superhero moviethon. Looking forward to Wonder Woman and Justice League due for release soon. It's a shame that the Ultimate Ed. isn't 3D but that's the movie business for you!

Snyder tried to do something special with man of steel and Batman V Superman and it definitely paid off, albeit perhaps not with some general audiences. I feel these two films will be classed as classics in years to come, once people have gotten used to more than only one flavour of super hero films.

If you're a DC fan, there is a hell of alot of fan service to get from this film with a blend of many famous comic story arcs from dark Knight returns to D.O.S to the first few issues of the new 52 justice league.

To briefly explain some of the more complex plot points without spoiling: Batman's motivation is that Superman, who is an unknown entity with unknown motivations poses an extreme threat if hostile.
The feeling of helplessness that Batman faces in the face of the potential threat of Superman forces him to do whatever it takes, become whoever he needs to be to confront Superman and if need be, destroy him. In the process Batman becomes cruel and loses himself part of himself in hunting Superman. It's more complex than that but without spoiling anything major I can't elaborate further.

If you're not used to DC as I was not a few years ago, then I strongly suggest you watch man of steel before watch BvS. It makes a big difference.

Final word: marvel films are good popcorn fun films. DC films, in my opinion are the thinking man's comic book film. This is absolutely fantastic

Critics are so bias it is unbelievable...for example on Rotten Tomatoes the critics dislike the CGI yet the Marvel movies are 99% CGI and every one praises it. Critics are so hypocritical its unreal, please stop ruining good movies. If this was released before Iron Man (2008) everyone would worship the movie, but now the world is to in love with Marvel movies which are not different from DC movies. Etc Avengers and Captain America have some bad plot holes yet every one overlooks them. This is so not fair and bias, please stop this Marvel Vs DC crap. This movie is great. Expand

So much is packed into a one movie. but in my opinion it works. This is a great action packed movie with some great performances, especially Ben Affleck.

I wouldn't trust the critic reviews. The story is actually entertaining with only some dull parts. Batman and Superman have great actors and prove they were the best choices. The only downside is Wonder Woman didn't have a huge role.

But BVS did bring me in to become a DC fans.

I really loved this film spending so much times in this film to let you understand why peoples hate superman, and Batman give me a feel more like a human, not just a super hero doing good thing for nothing, no, even Batman have a selfish part.

Other films will try to get the bad side of every super hero too but... didn't have much convincing, it sounds like :"Hey this superhero have his weakness in his heart too, and then he will still save the world", other film didn't want to spend more time on explaining the weakness, or explaining how the normal peoples fears.

BVS did that, and this is the film that more of you watching, the more taste you will get.
This is a very great film that didn't deserve so many haters
