This film had a lot of checkboxes and managed to tick off most of them. Re-starting the Batman franchise, following up on the events of MoS, introducing Wonder Woman and a number of other Justice League characters. It can get a little choppy at times, but I found it very enjoyable and would watch again.

It's gorgeous, if dark. Although somehow not as bleak as Dark Knight Rises was. Cavil continues good work as Superman, Affleck is surprisingly great as the new Batman, and Gal Gadot does good work with a too-limited role. Jessie Eisenberg does a fantastic job as Lex Luthor.

One of the problems is too many characters—there's not enough time for most. It would be nice if the writers could figure out a character for Perry White, as in MoS, Laurence Fishburne is mostly wasted here. Lois Lane could also use some more characterization.

Also better than MoS is the fight choreography/CGI, specifically the end sequence.

After the movie we discussed some scenes and mostly all of it started to make sense.
The movie certainly is not perfect but it is certainly not horrible.

Confusion shouldn't be a deterrent,Batman v Superman is the perfect example why these no name critics are an absolute joke. While the movie isn't perfect...it's probably the truest comic book film to date from the visuals to the "confusion". Confusion shouldn't be a deterrent, confusion is the best part of any comic book story and people forget that. This movie isn't for those who like a clear cut story...this is a comic book...on film.

The audience, as a 75% majority vote this 4/5 or higher on average. This is a comic book movie that, thanks to Zak Synder's style, also looks and feels that way. It breaks away from the campy, Disney Princess garbage that was taking over the industry after The Dark Knight trilogy.

Lots of people will say, 'Zak ruined this' or 'Just trying to copy Nolan'. They are wrong. There were a ton of legendary writers and producers on this film. You can credit the visual beauty of the film to Zak though. The film literally feels like you are inside of a comic book...and the whole movie is that...a COMIC BOOK film.

It probably does the best job capturing Bruce Wayne/Batman in his elder years, Ben Affleck absolutely NAILS it. Ben Affleck was a perfect choice. Phenomenal performance. You can definitely tell Ben Affleck was serious about this role and you'll easily get lost in his portrayal.

Same goes for Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman...holy buns does she almost steal the show. We all were skeptical about Wonder Woman, but what a way to introduce her to the big screen. It's been too long and now that its finally here: Well freaking done!

Superman...well you're not going to get the campy boy scout anymore. The film does mention it, but this is more of telling Superman that the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Now the movie isn't perfect. I said this. It does get confusing because it is setting up a huge universe. Those little parts that are confusing are likely parts you should watch again...because if you ever read a comic book before, the confusing parts are actually the best parts.

On top of all that, this movie is called 'DAWN OF JUSTICE' for a reason. Critics don't understand that. They expect dozens of films to explain stuff that is already part of our culture for decades (almost a century now). A real comic book fan can appreciate this film, it's visually stunning and compelling. Any confusion is exactly what you'd feel when you read a comic book, you'll be itching for the next issue.

Forget the critics. Listen to the audience...the fans. This movie is absolutely amazing.

The critics really got it wrong here...

This is one hell of a comic book movie and I'll say why. So much was done right but it did have its problems.

Pros: Ben Affleck is the BEST batman to date, he was brutal and fast, he 'literally' killed it ;) Gal Gadot was amazing as Wonder Woman and was pure Bad Ass, Cavill as Superman was once again great and i can't believe i'm gonna say this but Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was fantastic, he was intimidating, insane and a genius that manipulates the plot magnificently. The action was some of the best i have seen in any comic book movie especially the Batman V Superman fight. The story was great and was well written, props to Chris Terrio. The Cameos were great and didn't feel shoehorned in imo, the Flash cameo blew my mind.

Now for the bad. The first half was a bit of a mess, editing was weird and pacing was a little off. Sorry but i just don't trust Zack Snyder with JL, the script was great but he just couldn't piece it together, but to his credit the visuals were amazing. I don't like how Lois was conveniently everywhere, it was quite irritating that she was shoved in every scene.

Overall a great movie, don't trust the critics on this one, you need to see it for yourself, who cares if it's not like a Marvel movie, they are great but DC is taking a different approach and people need to accept that.

'Batman V Superman' is in my opinion one of the best movies based off comics in recent memory. Especially when compared to the last phase of Marvel movies which ended with a thud in last years 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'. The film is triumphant in it's visual storytelling from director Zack Snyder, with deep and philosophical writing to support it, no doubt in part to academy award winning screen writer Chris Terrio who penned 'Argo' back in 2012 with Ben Affleck. Speaking of Batfleck, he gives a monumental performance as a world weary Bruce Wayne and an even grittier Batman then what we have seen before, even better than Christian Bales portrayal in the Christopher Nolan directed 'Dark Knight' trilogy if i may add. As a launchpad to a Cinematic Expanded Universe, I am very excited for what is held in store for the soon to be brought together 'Justice League'. Expand

No, far from it, there are a few plot holes, there’s a couple of plots that don’t go anywhere and the plot feels rather confused at times, but for basic story telling, it’s actually pretty good. It tells a decent cohesive story and doesn’t get bogged down in pretentious dialogue like its predecessor did and it has some good central performances. Honestly, I would say it’s probably Zack Snyder’s best film to date, though considering his back catalogue, that’s not saying much. I’m not going to say it’s perfect, because I would be lying to you and to myself, but for what it delivers, it’s pretty good. The action scenes are well shot, the story is cohesive for the most part and I liked the characters and I think the film has some merits to it. It is certainly better than Man of Steel and that film has a higher rotten tomato’s score than this film. I am going to make a prediction that I think comic fans will be divided on this on in the future, however I say it’s good, but not great. It nearly hits the mark and it’s an admirable attempt. Man of Steel may have been a rickety foundation to build the DC Cinematic Universe on, but Batman V Superman reinforces it slightly, but it will need a really strong movie to keep it going. Hopefully the up-coming Suicide Squad movie that comes out in the summer will keep up the momentum. Oh and don’t stick around to the end credits there’s no post credit scene Expand

I just took my son and we had a blast - there is much to like here. There is the initial storyline of batman versus superman, then it gets better by introducing many new DC superhero characters (including the amazing Wonder Woman). The atmosphere throughout is dark, with little comedic lines to break up the drama and action - but that is better than cheesy lines that distract from the seriousness of the movies. I applaud the director, Zack Snyder, as this had to be a very difficult task for him and his team - they did a great job and I look forward to many more DC movies to come. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do not listen to the critics, people! They are indeed wrong yet again. Just look at the difference between the critics and the users (aka fans) scores---a 44 and a 7.4 (as of the time of this review's writing). Clearly, something weird is going on here. Yes, the film does have a few minor flaws but nowhere near enough to carry it to even a 70.

The casting and characters in this movie are fantastic. Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg are the ones that really shine in their roles, though Henry Cavill is great as well. And regarding Affleck, I found that his Batman is one that will definitely fit this version of the DC Universe and the voice is a huge improvement over Christian Bale's, though in other areas, I found Bale's Batman to elicit much more sympathy and be an all-around more engaging character. But who knows? Maybe Affleck's Batman will top Bale's in the upcoming standalone film.

The plot does take quite a while to get going, but it's not what I would consider a drag. Other movies have fared much worse in terms of slow starts. The only problem I had with the beginning is that I wasn't sure who I was supposed to be rooting for. Perhaps if I had seen Man of Steel, some of the plot points would've been more clear and it would've been obvious I was supposed to be going for Superman, but it was kinda foggy for me. Other than that, I really had no problems with the beginning and middle, as we were introduced to Eisenberg's unique yet solid Lex Luthor and became more familiar with other members of the cast, such as Amy Adams' Lois Lane and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman.

The actual ending battle sequence of the movie was simply spectacular. There were some parts that looked a little too CGI (i.e.: the "birth" of Doomsday and the part when Superman was healed in space) but overall, I found it to be enjoyable, engaging, and necessary. Some people felt that Doomsday was shoved into this film, which I disagree with. This is probably due to the fact that I went into the film with low expectations after looking at the critics' scores but Doomsday was both well set-up and masterfully executed in my opinion. He could've looked a little closer to the comics, though (and like SethGrey said, Lex's motives in the end were unclear).

Lastly, I found Hans Zimmer's score to be extremely unmemorable though I did manage to pick out some parts in which it sounded remarkably similar to his work on The Bible TV miniseries, so I liked those bits. I wouldn't be able to tell you a part where the music blew me away though. I also think that the title pretty much makes no sense. The "Dawn of Justice" part, maybe, but the "Batman v Superman"? Absolutely not. I think having the film being named simply "Dawn of Justice" would've been better, though that is admittedly rather weak as well.

In the end, I found Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to be a great film, much better than the critics would have you believe. The main issue with the film is a slightly slow middle section but even that can't bog down the wonderful casting and characters, as well as the plot itself and the ending sequence. This movie really made me get excited for the rest of the DC Comics Cinematic Universe.

I liked Affleck's version of Batman, Henry Cavil did a deent Superman, Jessie Eyesenberg as Lex Luthor was actually a guilty pleasure entertainment, the story did somethings right and the visuals, action and Wonder Woman were fantastic.

Not Great, but not alwful either. 6.5/10

This movie is a little slow but when the action gets started it is insane! I truly enjoyed this movie. Henry Cavil was awesome as Superman and Gal Gadot was awesome as Wonder Woman. Jesse Eisenberg was a little over the top to be honest, but doesn't ruin the movie. The critics ripped this movie to shreds, but it is a terrific movie and is worth your time and money. You don't need to have read the comics about these characters though, all you need is a basic understanding of the characters. All around it is a very fun movie. Don't listen to the critics, go see the movie for yourself! I can't wait for the Justice League movie. Expand

Dawn of Justice is weighed down by poor editing, uneven pacing, and an overstuffed plot. However it makes up for its flaws with impressive action sequences, a refreshingly dark tone, plenty of emotional moments, and a powerful message.

I need to establish this right now: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is NOT a bad movie.
Becoming one of the most controversial movies very quickly, Batman V Superman does a lot of things well, and a lot of things wrong. Luckily I have more pros and cons, but the cons are still there, so let's talk about the good parts first. Ben Affleck NAILED it as Bruce Wayne, Henry Cavill was an.. alright Superman, and Gal Gadot was a great Wonder Woman. I did feel like the movie was less fun, but it made it all the more AWESOME to watch. The dark and bruting Superman screwing with the mind of Bruce Wayne was interesting to see, and the rivalry between the two was entertaining to watch. However, let's get into the cons. Jessie Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was a very poor choice, as the actor was very stupid and unentertaining rather than hysterical and insane. Plus, the first hour of the movie was a lot of unneeded exposition, but I didn't mind the rest. However, Doomsday looked absolutely terrible, and is easily the worst part of this movie. Overall, Batman V Superman isn't a bad movie, but it isn't a fantastic movie either. If you ever watch this movie, don't go into this movie with high expectations; if you do, you won't like this movie. I personally thought it was alright.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice gets a 6/10.

Internet and critics were to harsh on the movie but to be fair, you have to have a lot of DC-related knowledge to enjoy the movie. Clearly is not aiming to a wide audience. Content is good, the distribution of it, is flawed. Also Affleck and Gadot, nailed their roles! (Luthor was meh, but I hope for some potential future development).
If you don't want to spend nearly 3 hours sitting (feels like a marathon of a series) then yup, wait for the Netflix release. But overall, I really liked the movie, and if you liked the DC-animated movies, then you probably like this one too. It doesn't deserve the bad reviews and this kind of movies clearly show how bad-used-to we are with all this colorful Marvel movies. Is a very dense movie comparable with Watchmen, a lot of things happen and the assembly of those things might be a bit confusing and against the pacing, but again, the content is good. You don't go out with the sense of "oh, they could have added -insert anything- in there". It is a needed movie for what it comes for the DC cinematic universe, it was a good choice not to make it a proper MoS sequel or a Batman solo movie. It is a transition movie with a lot of context created for you to understand why things are happening, or will happen.
PS: Ben Affleck, if you ever read this, know that you were a superb Batman, way better than Bale.. Don't be Sad.

On one hand, I was satisfied with the film, but on the other, I felt like this film was released to early. Even still, I was hopeful for BvS. After the disaster that was Star Wars Episode 7, I needed a movie to get me excited for something again. Unfortunately, BvS was a film of extreme ups and downs. The film absolutely excels in its action and visuals, and both Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck fit very well in the roles of DC's two biggest characters. But the film is also overstuffed, unfocused, and lacks proper build-up. For me, DC's desire to compete with Marvel is costing them dearly, especially since Captain America: Civil War came out this year as well, which is without a doubt, one of Marvel's best films. They need to take their time to build a proper universe, instead of trying to fit numerous unrelated stories into each of the movies. So for me, I'm still recommending for people to check it out, just be sure to keep your expectations in check. Expand

I know, I'm surprised too! Affleck and Cavill were great. The critics were way off-base giving this film low scores.

The Good:
- I went in expecting an action film. And got it, plus a bit of depth to Batman
- The best parts of the movie are the dream sequences and the Bruce/Kent scenes.
- Alfred is awesome.
- Following some comic cannon and break some cannon
- Lex Luthor is a big crazy jerk (I enjoyed it, again unexpectedly)
- The non-supervillain fight scenes were great.
- It was fun film.

The Mediocre:
- WW scenes
- Couple of plot holes

The Bad:
- Money Hungry Producers (the bane of all movie buffs)
-Rushed plot, they could have cut the cameos and stuck to Bats, Sups & WW.
-David Goyer is absolutely a great writer; but the Money Hungry Producers asked to much of him.
-Zack Snyder is a good director, and obviously loves comics; but the Money Hungry Producers asked to much of him too.
- Brand building by Money Hungry Producers
- the supervillain a CGI mess at time, although, considering the source material, its pretty close...
- Should have given it a sharper/harder ending - but Money Hungry Producers need to setup a franchise.
- Did I mention Money Hungry Producers

Good action film, you should go see it. Really, I give it: 78/100 - Don't expect a Chis Nolan drama/adventure film and you won't be disappointed.

But for the most part it is a quite cool movie. Zack Snyder is an expert in constructing scenes with an incredible good taste in music and visuals... I really like how this scenes end up feeling like really good music videos. Superman is a quite nice character here (generally, I am not a big fan of Superman, but Zack has made it ok for the second time now). The highlight is Batman though. Sure, if you compare to what Christian Bale and mr. Nolan did with the character for the Dark Knight trilogy, Ben Affleck has a long way to go. So just avoid doing the comparison. Instead, think of Ben Affleck as the live action representation of Bruce Wayne/Batman from the animated series. Look, if watched it during the 90s, Ben Affleck portrayal of Batman will feel nostalgic. He really brings that old Batman from the animated series to life in such a natural way... simply a perfect fit. Oh and WonderWoman looks cool as well. These things contribute a lot for the experience of watching the movie in the theater. Unfortunately, the silly villain and the lame script pull down the whole thing. What annoyed me the most is the resolution of the story: a huge fight where the group of heroes fight a powerful creature who wants to destroy everything with its abstract but visually impressive super powers on a partially destroyed background. In other words, the end of every Marvel movie... even though this should be a DC universe.... so it is simple cliché.... an empty, boring and lazy final, conclusive battle, just like every super hero movie lately, Expand

The movie has a welcomed serious tone and a depth that is intriguing, but it twists itself around ruining the characters. Overall I really enjoyed parts, but it makes me want to know what was reshot and what they changed on the cutting room floor. I loved one theme of the story; the theme of Superman being an idol/god to many people, and the danger that may cause. Batman distrusted this unequal balance of power of a god Superman, and it seemed like a true motivation to oppose Superman. This would have been a perfect setup for a Bizarro Superman to trick the masses, and become a real false god who abuses his power. But instead the movie relied on unreasonable misunderstandings between Batman and Superman that ruined any good logic of the characters.

The movie made Batman emotionally blind and sadistic, and the way he treats Superman is moronic. The movie basically created a big misunderstanding that goes on most of the movie, so that Batman wants to sadistically murder Superman. His detective skills and reasoning are gone from this movie. A few scenes are enjoyable like when Batman is purely badass to the bad guys. Batman is only a "good" guy because we like Batman, but if he were dressed in a different custom then his actions would make him the villain. Superman is mute and moronic. The US government is condemning of Superman and distrusts his powers, all because of a big misunderstanding, yet Superman has no voice. Everything about Superman's thought process is slow, and frustrating to watch. Doesn't Superman talk ever to explain? (Yeah I know he shows up at Congress well into the movie). doesn't Lois Lane even write articles to explain her first hand knowledge of Superman? Does Superman land far away from Batman so he can moronically walk into Batman's trap, and meekly tell Batman about the misunderstandings orchestrated by Lex Luther? The movie tried to make Lex Luther be the glue to connect everything together. He invites Batman, Clark Kent, and Wonder Woman to the same party. He has files on the other mutants. He has access to all science and money, bails out the guy in the wheelchair, and gains access to Zod's ship. He has his finger in EVERYTHING and pulls the strings to trick EVERYONE. It was too much, and not a satisfying plot connection. Also he shows up everywhere as the plot needs to force him to connect, which was only topped by Lois Lane being everywhere as the plot needs.

The movie relied on both main characters, Batman and Superman to be stupid and not empathetic to each other, which hurt the film. They resolve their differences immediately in the movie, with a stupid connection, and they forget the whole hate for each other. The film makers forced the team to come together for the end scene. They did fine with including Wonder Woman, in fact I felt proud when they were all working together. But it was lame how they pasted in the other mutant characters like Cyborg, Aquaman, Flash, by using top secret camera footage that was like posed commercials.

I enjoyed the foreshadowing scene of Batman's dream in the desert, of evil superman, flying bug guys, someone in a portal warning Batman. Did they intend to have Superman evil at some point? We shall see if this is all meant for later movies, but it shows how unfocused this film is.

Final annoyance, Why does Doomsday's roar sound EXACTLY THE SAME as every big monster IN EVERY MOVIE??

But I had to see this film being the superhero nerd that I am and especially with all the discussion surrounding it...and like most things in life, the hype doesn't live up to expectations. I don't mean the hype of BvS, I mean the hype that the media used to get you to click on their pages with headlines like "Critics Slam BvS". There's nothing significantly wrong with this film. It's entertaining, feels realistic, paced well, and not dumbed down. I could see ratings in the 7-9 range being the most accurate. I decided on a 9 since 8.5 isn't an option. There's little things here and there that are a little silly (a blinking location tracker for instance that you wouldn't want to blink if you're trying to keep it hidden from the bad guys and so on) but again, nothing too out of sorts. It did take me awhile to warm up to Jesse's portrayal of Lex, but the movie built his character up as the film went on with little phrases that were easy to miss, yet made his character much more believable. I was also worried about any Lex being in another Superman film, but this style of Lex (almost like Ledger's Joker) was much more cruel, conniving, and brilliant. He was much more of a real adversary to Superman than Kevin Spacey ever was. Anyway, I am pumped about the DC universe and even though I stopped buying Blu Rays a long time ago, I am purchasing this film. Lastly, I will say that one possible divisive part of the movie (that I enjoy but could see turning off casual viewers) was that the easter eggs (if that's what you want to call them) weren't just little things in the background or little verbal quips, they were more direct and up front, which could confuse those who don't know the DC universe and its famous stories over the years. But again, being a superhero nerd, I thought that part of the film was awesome and felt like someone was finally making a movie for me. Expand

The opening scene is one of the most memorable scenes of the movie. Everyone acting in the movie did great. Jessie Eisenburg did a fine job has the son of Lex Luthor but everything came with twists and turns. This movie is not that dark, it is actually sort of fun, bit not Avengers fun. Everything that comes oout of Alfred's mouth is hilarious. Bruce Wayne is my favorite Batman, but Christian Bale is my favorite Bruce Wayne. I loved his fighting style and Ben Affleck did an amazing job. I can't wait to see him in a stand alone movie. All I'm saying is that this movie is underrated. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Batman vs Superman started off with a boring recap of what most people already knew... that batmans parents were murdered. Also another flaw at the start of the movie is that there were civilians standing around not panicking when several buildings were collapsing. The final major flaw was the situation didn't make much sense, i mean batman and superman have saved many lives and they are looked at as enemies? Kinda strange. The overall fight scenes were pretty great. Finally the idea seemed destined to be a fail but they managed to make it enjoyable. Worth checking it out in theater. Expand

When I heard the critics reviews for the film I was worried because I was very excited for this movie. But the movie didn't disappoint I absolutely loved this movie, All the critics can KISS MY ASS! Ben Affleck killed it as Batman he was awesome. Since Im a very big Batman fan I expected him to give a great performance, and he kicks a lot of ass. Henry Cavil did well as Superman, he wasn't as good as Christopher Reeves but he still did well (Still prefer Batman) The Most badass female in this movie is definitely Wonder woman, She was beautiful,Badass, and she knew her way around Batman. I know Some people were not crazy about Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor but in my eyes he did really well. At some parts he over acted a little but in the end he did good, plus he was really creepy at some parts. Amy Adams as Lois Lane did well she came off to much of a damsel in distress. One last thing I have to say is the film is very dark and thats what DC comics, is known for. So If you don't like it because there could of been more laughing moments its understandable. I Think the movie kind of jumped around at some parts but it got so much better and awesome when "Son of Krypton" fought "The Bat of Gotham." One last problem I did not like how Doomsday looked in the film, He looked like a troll had sex with the abomination from The Incredible Hulk. I just wasn't digging it. But over all this film is amazing it was shot beautifully, amazing actors and actresses,Cool ass action. Zack Snyder keep up the good work and thank you for giving us this film. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is easily one of the most talked about and controversial movies of the last few years and thus for anyone's opinion to be remembered, it has to be elaborated upon and that is what I will do here. I personally found the ultimate edition anyway, of batman v superman to be a pretty good movie, and find it only slightly inferior to the also underrated man of steel. I realize zach snyder has become one of the internets' key boogie men over the last few years and I get it, but thoroughly disagree with this sentiment. Especially since the, in my opinion, highly overrated christopher nolan is essentially snyder but way more up his own ass with philosophy and symbolism. now that is not to say that zach's movies, especially this one don't have very eye rolling symbolism, the whole "maybe superman isn't a christ figure or a demon" thing was a "tad" on the nose, but zach at bear minimum keeps most of his obvious symbolism visual and breif, as opposed to nolan who has 5 minute long conversations of why anarchy is awesome, multiple times might I add, in the dark knight. but getting back onto track, this film succeeds for me overall because of the naturally great action, especially the cool ass batman vs superman fight and the overall doomsday fight, the awesome visuals, batfelck as people like to dub him and how the film flows well enough in the ultimate edition that all of this setup is easy to watch. I also really enjoyed the little moments added in, like the other members of the soon to be justice league being heaviully alluded to on lex's personal server or whatever, especially aqua man as the "get off my property" guy, that was pretty fun. So overall the ultimate edition is a worthwhile viewing experience and leaves me pretty excited for the 2 part justice league movie coming up starting next year. Expand

For me though even though I thought it seemed overlong as it tried to set up the Justice league etc. this was an amazing film and once you see the Batfleck in this in action, there's no going back to the Nolanverse Batman (unless you want to see the best joker in film.. so far) as the fight scenes and aeriel action you see are straight out the comics and that is the Batman I've been waiting to see.

Superman is still trying to find his place in the world in this movie and I thought the movie did a great job portraying that, however inspiring Superman is, there will always be those who are concerned if someone so powerful could turn on us and as they boy scout he is, he's concerned about what others think and comes across as genuinely pained as to whether he can be all good in this world.

Wonder Woman is amazing in this, no spoilers as people will have seen the trailers but when she turns up and is in a tough fight she is amazing and deserved more screen time, there's a bit where she gets hit hard and the smile on her face as she went back for more was incredible, I can't wait for that film now.

All in all, not a perfect film by any means but I thought it was a great way to start the DC universe and I have to give an extra point to DC just for some of the ballsy decisions made here as there are parts of this film I thought I'd never see on the big screen even though I knew this was a Batman v Superman movie.

9 out of 10 and a must see for me.

In fact I created this account just so I could say some positive words to combat all the negativity from the critics. What I loved about it was the quick jump into action and the dramatic scenes throughout the movie. The confusing parts were some of the cut scenes and dream sequences which kind of came out of nowhere. However, knowing how Marvel played out their universe in cinema, I have faith that these are simply planting seeds for future movies. Ben Afleck – if you get a chance to read this you definitely owned the role of Batman. It's tough to play a superhero that doesn't have any superpowers – much like Iron Man. So the writing and character development needs to be very careful for it to be believable. I found it not only believable but extremely entertaining! The sheer force of Batman and his fighting in this movie was awesome. Not as much ninjitsu but more just brawler it was probably a truer reality to Batman than has ever been done before. Superman was believable in his victorious moments and in his defeat moments which was really great to see the attention to detail there. Wonder woman coming at the end added a sense of "this movie is awesome". The storyline I think relies on the viewers knowing more about the DC universe then they probably will. For true fans of the Justice League they will probably make more sense out of it. As for the negative reviews by the critics based on cinematography, plotline accuracy, shallow characters, etc. etc. etc. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm just done with this type of negativity in order to sound educated. Analyze creative output in a circle where the depth of analysis is warranted. But this is not that place. This is a superhero movie. This is an action movie. Any over-analysis of cinematic technique and craft in bringing this story to life just takes away the fun spirit behind which super hero stories were created in the first place. I had fun watching it with my family and ultimately that's what it should be about. I will definitely see the next movies in the DC superhero universe! Thanks to all who helped making Batman V Superman for the care and attention to detail in this debut milestone film. Expand

It was almost a dream to see what unfolded. As a long time DC fan this is everything I could’ve wished for and more. It told an intricate sophisticated story while giving us, while few, satisfying action sequences. This is what we’ve been waiting for not as just DC fans but as comic fans in general. If you love comics you owe it to yourself to see this film. I’m still can’t stop thinking about it, I need to see this movie a few more times in theaters its just such a monumental experience. To say this movie is not funny at all must either not be paying attention or needs it thrust upon them emphatically as is the way with Marvel films. The humor is subtle and flows from a sarcastic Alfred, to a quirky Lex, to Perry White (who I felt had the funniest lines in the film). As Bruce Wayne says “Don’t believe everything you hear son”. As far as why you pay extra to go sit in an IMAX theatre and see a movie in 3d? Yeah, it goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Overall, worth your money to see in the theatre if you like the spectacle, action movie super genre.
If you are even a little bit burnt out on superhero movies, or your kind of on the fence about them but have liked some of the better ones, and only those... stay home. You'll probably not like it.

Ignore the critics - this is a great film.

It is true to the tone on Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and "Man of Steel", so admittedly if you exclusively prefer the lighter tone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the recent DC films, then this probably won't be for you. Also, much of the criticism Snyder has received for his editing of the film is deserved, it could have been alot better.

Finally, we get more and alternative Batman origin material, which for this generation of moviegoer is unnecessary, and so is a bit of wasted time.

But that's about as much negative as I can say about this film.

The story is excellent in it's objective of being a starting point for the Justice League. It shows how three untrusting and crash-burned superheroes are forced together to deal with a different level of threat, explaining and justifying the changes in their respective outlooks and how it will lead into their forming a team.

Ben Affleck is excellent as Batman and Bruce Wayne. His is an older, more experienced character. Christian Bale's Batman was young, idealistic, and on a crusade with clear boundaries of how far he would go to deal with threats to Gotham. Affleck's character has seen too much and been let down too often to have any limits any more. His is a pragmatic, pitiless and righteous exponent of rage. Whereas BatBale was the survivor guilt-ridden symbol of hope and opposition to the evil in Gotham; his mask was that of the playboy, as he struggled to balance his public and "professional" identities. BatFleck is simply the solution and the warning to anyone who wants to keep threatening his town; there is little difference now between the man and the mask.

Henry Cavill is also excellent as Superman. I loved "Man of Steel", and i'm glad he hasn't given in to any critical pressure to change the character he delivers. This film has Superman asking himself why he even bothers, and gives him just enough room amongst the ensemble to grow the character a bit more.

Gal Gadot didn't get as much time as most would of liked, but she delivered in the time she was given, and I can't wait to see her in Justice League and the first Wonder Woman film.

As a whole the film itself stripped-down, blunt and brutal. It fits alot in, whilst simultaneously having a bit of extraneous fat that could've been wisely edited out. Overall however, this is a great film. Give it a chance and you will walk out happy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really don't understand the reviews that say the plot makes no sense, or too many things that are unconnected going on. Everything is connected through Alexander Luthor and may seem disjointed, but just have to use a little brain power to see whats going on. The biggest downside to the movie is Snyder. He makes some visually beautiful scenes, but at the loss of substance. Superman falls really flat in this movie. There were some scenes that could have been great with better displays of emotion, instead you see Snyders influence with movie poster shots. If you like Injustice, you will love this movie. One major complaint I had was the darkness with Superman, but after thinking more about it I realize this isn't the superman i grew up with. That superman comes onto the scene and everyone loves him and accepts him. This supe is met with skepticism and paranoia by the government. Also, here Lois knows his identity before she ever really knows Clark. Supe didnt have those years of spending his energy hiding his secret identity and having Lois fall for Clark. That translates into him immediately putting all his focus into his relationship with Lois here, and not having that outlet of hiding who he is, his love for her is almost infatuated. That changes his mindset and judgement, and makes it much easier for him to go dark. That plus the public lack of acceptance changes everything from the old superman story. This movie is a great setup for the DC universe, and if they go the Injustice route it explains why all franchises in this universe need to be dark.

I still hate the Flash casting here though, but loved the cameo.

The action, dialogue, direction, and cinematography perfectly wrap into one cohesive film. This is my current favorite Batman. You can just tell after all the years of Gotham going to hell with no end in sight he has lost his morals. Bruce Wayne is brutal like never before. I can't make this review and not speak about Henry Cavil's Superman. Superman in this film is simply put, "A Graphic Novel translated to film". The scenes involving Superman are just so iconic and immersive in this universe Warner Brothers have crafted. The only negative I have about the film is the inclusion of some of the Justice League scenes. They weren't particularly "bad", they just felt a tad out of place.

Overall this film is amazing. Easily beats out recent comic book films like Ultron or Ant Man. I'd highly recommend watching this, and I am certainly picking up the Ultimate Edition when it releases.

Firstly, Ben Affleck is definitely the best Batman ever. Already we know Henry Cavill so compitable with Superman role but, nobody wait Ben Affleck's extraordiary role.

In my opinion, the film has two excuses. Firstly, it is really too long, approximately 150 minutes, if only it has 90 or 100 minutes and we can so satisfied. Secondly, that "Martha" thing. On relevant scene, Batman has advantage and he is so nervous, but when he heart "Martha will die" words he give up. This is weird. Yes, Martha is his mom, but this is not enough reason for giving up.

In addition, soundtracks of film are amazing. Especially, when our three heroes (Batman-Superman-Wonder Woman) presented together musics are extraordinary. Speaking of Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot is as succesfull as Ben Affleck. She looks like completely her comic-book version.

Finally, I really suggest this film and if you do not have any prejudice, you will like this film.

DC/Warner is unapologetically not being Marvel, and that's okay. We've just seen so many Marvel movies that the contrast of BvS can be jarring, as they have chosen to dwell on the larger world view of a God being a reality for people and what that means to all sorts of people.

The movie is not without flaws. It is long in the middle, with hard cuts that disrupt the pacing. Lex is very manic, and I personally like my Lex Luthor to be older and more calculating. Most importantly, the tiny plot points that hinted at where this story is going will be completely missed by non-comic readers... which will definitely affect your opinion of the overall film (i.e. Most Critics).

This movie was VERY ambitious, and probably tried to do too much too soon, but it is not horrible. The fact that BvS is 30% worse than the Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Rotten Tomatoes makes me believe that something actually IS up. I would watch BvS 100 more times before watching AS2 once more.

At the end of the day, I am very excited for the universe they are creating, and I'm happy I get to see it.

The action sequences are big and loud and pack a serious punch. It did feel like DC and Warner Bros. were trying to play catch-up with Marvel and included way too many things in this movie. This did cause the plot to be confusing or a bit weak at times. However, they always cleared up my questions and I came out with a clear sense of where this thing is going in the future.

I hated the choice of Affleck as Batman, but after seeing the movie I am sold. Gal Gadot was also great as Wonder Woman. I didn't so much care for Amy Adams as Lois Lane or Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. It felt like they kept throwing Lois into these crazy situations just so Adams could get her screen time. And Eisenberg did a good job of playing crazy, but Luthor is usually more subtle than this. Eisenberg took it way over the top.

POSITIVES:
1) Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
2) Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman
3) Fun, big action sequences
4) Lots of comic references for DC fans

NEGATIVES
1) Amy Adams as Lois Lane
2) Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor
3) Some poor CGI (especially during Doomsday's initial introduction)
4) Plot can be a bit confusing/hard to follow.

All in all, I enjoyed this film. I'm also a huge Batman fan so I'm probably a bit biased. But if you enjoy these characters, ignore the critics and see the movie. Is it on par with what Nolan and Christian Bale were doing? No. But I think it's a solid sophomore effort for DC's new cinematic universe and am looking forward to what comes next.

I will join others in confusion as to why critics were SO harsh towards this film.

Was it flawed? Sure, and it fell short of a perfect comic film. However, to deny that this is a well-crafted film, even if you don't like its content, is folly.

The performances of Gadot and Batfleck were absolutely breathtaking. Jeremy Irons's Alfred was both wise and snarky, which led to some perfect banter. In fact, Laurence Fishburne's conversations with both Clark and Lois brought a sense of importance to the position of the Daily Planet in American society, and humor to how bold and often reckless Clark and Lois are in their professional lives.

The sheer amount of comic references is staggering. To the point that it might overwhelm not only laymen, but casual fans [I've left out specifics, as they would be spoilers]. This might require that Dawn of Justice deserves more than one viewing, with which I agree. I feel this also led to the misconception that the narrative was disjointed, in that so many new elements were introduced as a comic book would.

One of the most direct criticisms would be some editing issues, but none that take away from the film significantly. Snyder's story already runs well over 2 hours, so certain unimportant scenes that last more than 2 minutes, and/or are told in slow motion, should have been cut. Those minutes would have been better served either shortening the end result, devoting them to important developments, or just saving them for the director's cut DVD.

Dawn of Justice displays the consequences of Superman's power and decisions, as well as the emotional and mental weight of Batman's decades-long career. Make no mistake, it's a serious, ambitious, and operatic treatment. While there is a fair amount of humor (usually in the form of quips, awkward situations, and clever retorts), many critics found the serious treatment of this subject to be lacking in fun.

Well... it's a fight between two heroes, built upon the aftermath of a disaster. So yes, it is serious. But the DC universe will introduce funny and absurd elements (consider LEGO Batman), but this is not one of them. Go in with a good grasp of the source material, an open mind, and entertain graphic literature as a serious medium. This serious story also indicates Superman's lack of joviality, as his standing among the human race is at risk.

Even if you don't like the content, this film is "just okay" or "meh". Either way, it's well-crafted, and astoundingly ambitious. If not for the lowered expectations via critics, I'd give it 8/10, but I was surprised and spellbound repeatedly. So, I give it a 9/10.

The real let down is Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. He did a poor imitation of H. Leadger's Joker showing not only, that he has no idea who Lex Luthor is but also that he is a really bad actor.
Despite this I had a really good time watching this movie and I believe that both Superman and Batman fans should be satisfied.

-Mercy Graves: They could have done so much with her and they didn't. I'm pretty pissed off about this.

The Love:
-Ben Affleck made for an amazing Frank Miller Batman. He's a grizzled, old, son of a **** This is the Batman that I really like, and one that reminded me a lot of the comic book Batman post-Jason Todd to Knightfall.
-Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor was exceptionally well done. The writing of his character was amazing. The took the best Lex Luthor villany from the comic series and brought it to life.
-Doomsday: They did everything they should have done with Doomsday. That's all I'm saying without spoiling the movie.
-Wonder Woman: Gal Gadot? Yes. More of that please!
-The Fight: Done right. Ended the way it should have.
-Sequel? Oh god I hope so! They alluded to some stuff from the DCU that would make for an awesome story-telling. This was set up right.

This is a DARK movie. The comparisons have been against the Marvel movies, and one of the things that makes the MCU movies so lovable is the comic relief. There is none of that here and that's how it should be. Remember comic relief in a Batman flick? Watch Batman Forever or Batman and Robin. Then go back to your corner and pout some more if you think laughs work in a DC comic/movie.

DC comics have always been darker than the Marvel comics. This is what WB needs to make more of.

Really enjoyed this movie. Went in not expecting much - didn't care for Man of Steel... but I was pleasantly surprised. I also liked Ben Affleck's Batman, wasn't a fan of the casting at first but I thought he did a great job.

Batman V Superman is an extremely entertaining superhero movie. Although it might not contain the best plot ever, I thought it was at least a 7.5 on plot. At most, a 9. I felt all of the actors did a great job with what they were given. The biggest problem for me was that it felt a little overstuffed. They tried to fit too many elements in to set up the DC extended film universe, at the expense of the core story of this film. Even at 2.5 hours, there wasn't enough time to fit in everything they attempted to, and things felt rushed and choppy at times. I am interested to see the 3 hour Ultimate edition to see if the added scenes will offset this problem.

Another major issue I had was with the design of Doomsday. How could they have gotten the designs of all 3 heroes costumes so right, and Doomsday so wrong. Being a huge fan of the comics, I know how fierce and menacing he SHOULD look. In the movie he looked like a giant hairless gorilla with soft rounded bony protrusions, when he should have been covered in razor sharp bone formations creating natural armour and weapons. I noticed that Weta Digital is listed in the credits as one of the VFX companies. I think they took one of the Orcs from the hobbit, made him bigger, and stuck a few bony bits and pieces in him and called it a day.

Overall, I did enjoy the film, and enjoyed it even more after a second viewing. I definitely want to revisit this universe, with these characters.

This movie was not hard to follow, it was not disjointed. The plot was easy to follow, but surprisingly emotional, much more than really any avengers movie (which I love, don't me wrong). There were probably a few small plot holes, but honestly this was a well told and gripping movie for a superhero movie (remember, super hero movie, not a based on a true story drama)
The only reason why I would not give it a perfect 10, is because it is slightly rushed, because it is fitting a lot of good stuff in. It also isn't the most mind blowing plot, but that is kind of hard to do in super hero movies. What it does though is make a superhuman subject relatable and human. So yes it is darker, but that isn't a bad thing.
It is absolutely worth watching and if you are a DC or any kind of superhero fan, this movie has to excite you for the future of DC and the Justice League!

There does not seem to be much love from the critics and some of the more hardcore comic book fans.

My wife and I really enjoyed it. Compared to the comedic, popcorn-movie vibes that accompany the majority of the Marvel movies (which I also enjoy), this film plays out more like a drama - especially in the first two acts of the film.
Those who complain about Henry Cavill's "dark" Superman seem to only know the silver age version of the character and Christopher Reeve Brandon Routh's cheery, boyscout version of the hero. Superman in modern media has always been a tortured soul in the sense that he is the last of his people and not fully accepted by Earth's people - this film continues with those themes, of his wanting to help but being chastised by some of the media and politicians wanting to regulate his activities - yet there are others who see him as a god and want to worship him, while he only wants to belong and find his purpose on this world.

Ben Affleck's Batman is reminiscent of the "Arkham" video game version of the character, as well as being influenced by Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns in terms of costume design and attitude. This is the most comic booky version of the character we've seen in a live action film, and my personal favourite Batman yet. The warehouse fight scenes in particular are amazing in showcasing the skills and gadgets this Batman has at his disposal to take down street level thugs. Some might not like this Batman is a "killer" but save for one, nobody is seen to be outright murdered by Batman.

On the negative, some of the story elements don't really make much sense - for example how Superman was framed an incident in Africa, and some of Bruce's visions and dreams - but this is a minor gripe and doesn't detract from the experience too much. All in all, I would rate it a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.

Gal Gadot is not in the movie enough to claim greatness, but she certainly isn't a problem. What she does is very good and makes me very happy that the Wonder Woman movie is coming soon.
Jesse Eisenberg portrays a very different Lex Luthor than I have seen before or was expecting, but he delivers a very good performance. I'm not a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg, but I will give him credit where it is due.
I believe that Batman v Superman was a phenomenal movie, and was very satisfying movie on all counts. It's not quite as genius as Man of Steel, but an exceptional follow up for the DC universe.
I'm eagerly anticipating Suicide Squad and the Justice League movies. Just can't stand the wait!

Does the movie have flaws? Sure! The same flaws that you can find in every other superhero film. IMHO, it's major flaw was trying to pack too much material in a single film. Warner should have respected and appropriated pace instead of trying to rush the delivery of Justice League film just to compete with Avengers.
