Truly, this movie is like sex for the eyeballs. And the story is above average. But it grabs on and doesn't let go until the end. If you haven't seen this... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SEE IT IN 3D!!

One of the humans falls in love with the alien princess, learns her people's ways and tries to help them fight the invaders. The CGI characters express emotion as raw as their human counterparts which really brings the plot on the go. Everything in Pandora is both dangerous and wonderful. The romance between Jake and Neytiri was central to the plot in my opinion. You get to empathize with the characters unlike other movies. I felt the excitement Jake had, the sadness, and the suspense. The spectacle lies not only in the effects but also in the story that touches hearts. A movie not to be missed. For all you stupid people out there who think More than half the people have dissed James Cameron whilst commenting on how 'bad' this movie was. He is an amazing director and has made amazing movies before but this one tops it. For all you stupid people out there who think he's a bad director and think this movie was so bad, then why arent you out there making something better than this? You know seeing as this movie was 'sooo stupid'.. its obviously SO EASY in your eyes to make something better right? WRONG... theres a reason your all not making brilliant movies like this one... because you know absolutely nothing. All those people who disagree with me and the millions of other people, critics and so on, are stupid. Lets face the facts, the movie has done brilliantly at the awards and is predicted to get even MORE awards. Theres a reason for that.... because it was an amazing movie. I think it's the best and it is personally my favourite. It has action, romance, sci-fi, comedy, adventure.... everything I would want in a movie and more. The graphics were the best I've ever seen... it's mind blowing what people can do nowadays with technology and anybody else who says otherwise about these graphics is just a sad sad person trying to be different and difficult. As for everyone slamming the political side of the movie.. it ISNT about the american government! The army in this movie is a private group hired by the mining company so your all stupid patriots who are trying to stand up for your government because your upset James Cameron makes the idea of an army look bad, when actually most of his themes are correct and if only our world could learn a thing or two from the ideas in this movie... My advice, don't listen to these fools and defiantly watch this movie, Ive seen it 3 times now and will go back another 100 times if I could. Expand

Now is the Huge Money Spending era of Cinemas. There are two ways, well three ways - 1) Do great creative work. 2) Spend a lot of money. 3) Do both (but this is out of reach at present). Now out of the first two ways, who will take the pain to think for hours, days and months in solitude? Directors are too busy with meetings, contacts. There are a lot of people who are ready to spend money, so better spend huge money and boast about creativity. That is doing the work. Now we realize the value of Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin and the old Spielberg. Spend huge money but also spend good hours in solitude too. I know you are too busy earning money. Reproducing the destructive colonialist/capitalist ideology and narrative is all Avatar does. The very nature of its white, ethnographic, "insider" hero is a one that takes what is not his and pretends to have mastery of it. The fact that Reproducing the destructive colonialist/capitalist ideology and narrative is all Avatar does. The very nature of its white, ethnographic, "insider" hero is a one that takes what is not his and pretends to have mastery of it. The fact that the white guy is able to master all of the native's knowledge through his ethnographic study is complete hypocrisy. The point should be that "our" ways of knowing, producing, living, are all destructive, and we do not need to destroy or take to survive is lost both in an around the white hero and his white experience. The true value is what was there are lasted before, not what new science or knowledge you think you can try to acquire, taxonomize or colonize. The Na'vi are the knowers, they are the people of Iraq, of Afghanistan, Africa, South America, the billions of lives "we" have destroyed, our planet which will soon react to our lack of reverence...Not the white guy. However, despite the stunning, naturalistic, organic look of the characters and environments, the heavy handed themes and stock characters hold this movie back. This is on of those movies where the director writes the point of the plot on a baseball bad and repeatedly hits the audience over the head with it. We get it: The planet Pandora is Iraq or Afghanistan or any other place the U.S. invaded and tried to plunder only to be rebuffed a determined native population. Subtlety is clearly not Cameron's style. Even though I enjoyed the breath-taking visuals (especially in 3-D IMAX) and all the effort put into the creation of the alien creatures/their culture, I kept getting distracted by the cliche characters from Earth's military industrial complex who seemed to do their basic training at central casting. I guess when you make $500 million movie you need to present clear archetypes so that even the simplest boob can understand. Although not completely brainless, this is not exactly a thinkin' fella's movie. What it is is great Hollywood sci-fi action which does have something to say. Although it does so with the subtlety of a fuel tanker slamming into a dynamite factory. Expand

Yes, it's not original but it really Quite incredible, really quite splendidly incredible. It lives up to the enormous hype in my opinion, a rare and wonderful thing, and the story's just fine for this sort of adventure. Yes, it's not original but it really doesn't matter when the subject matter is as beautifully realised as this. Besides, there are plenty of original films out there done very badly indeed so I applaud a simple story told well. Ignore the pompous nay sayers braying they're personal issues with Cameron on this one. The only slight criticism I'd level at the film is the poor score. Jarring at times, less is quite often more here. So, if dear old George Lucas has seen this already he'll likely glimpsed how to do the battle of Endor through his tears; an entire years supply of Michael Bayhem's bangs must have just been spent leaving him nowhere to go for a while hopefully; and McG (if that's even a real person) is going to have to go back to making little pop videos for kidz. There really isn't another director in Hollywood who knows how to do this stuff properly. Whatever your views on Sci-Fi fantasy please go and see this film, see what's been achieved and perhaps be left excited at the prospect of the future of action entertainment in cinema. But see it in 3D, and if you can get into an IMAX! I really don't think people can totally get what Cameron's achieved here in 2D. Expand

Avatar stunk to high-hell. If it weren't for Cameron's Abyss, Aliens and T2, this movie would be derided, lampooned and called out for the pile of festering caramelized feculent slime that it is. This movie is rife with terrible Avatar stunk to high-hell. If it weren't for Cameron's Abyss, Aliens and T2, this movie would be derided, lampooned and called out for the pile of festering caramelized feculent slime that it is. This movie is rife with terrible acting, horrific dialogue, and its 'message' is delivered through constant abuse of moral hazards. We have moral relativism, betrayal and treason being perpetrated for the greater good. This was a 3D wrapped celluloid that without the stunning (yet stupid looking) visuals would, especially in novel form, be a bloody laughing stock. The aliens stunk horribly. What's with the talking bi-peds with two eyes, a nose and a mouth. Has it ever occurred to these creative people that new life might be a colony of nano-bots, a slime mold with intelligence, life that aspirates with copper based blood, non-DNA self replicating life forms? Why is everything a blue monkey? At least in 1969 when Star Trek was populated with "old-form" Klingons that looked like a bronzed human they were on a near-zero budget, but at least they were totally re-defining sci-fi and giving a window into the future. Crap like Avatar, especially after T2, Star Trek, Star Wars (Ep 4,5 only), is shocking. Its showing that Cameron is a master of marketing mass subscribed explosion fests laced with politically motivated parables and drivel and sub-themed with nothing intellectual because there is nothing beyond the visual veneer, it is fundamentally puerile trash that's been hussied up to look like way more than it actually is. Anyone who defends this movie is simply a below average or nearly average mind that can't see past visuals that are no more complex of a stimulus than a piece of string is as a cat toy. They are incapable of rational or critical thought and are very likely a wage slave heavily in debt working towards no particular end, lost in life, and movies like this are a form of escapism where they "want to believe" and become immersed in something because their own lives are basically mundane, insignificant and unimportant. Moral hazards. Identity politics. Thinly veiled political positions. Preaching to the customer/consumer/viewer. Moral relativism. Severe lack of plot, dialogue and finally acting capability. This is a turning point for the world. It is showing how things that stimulate basal sensory centers in the simplistic human mind lead the herd into mindless oblivion. I mean, the Avatar are flawless, they have no strata in their society. The bad guys here are 100% bad, and have no capacity for rational thinking or empathy, except scientists in white coats, they have all the wisdom, empathy and intelligence and are always right. The characters were utterly simplistic, like toys and images made for pre-verbal children. Its like having tele-tubbies in massively expensive exquisite 3D where every frame is lovingly crafted to present to you some of the flattest, most uninspiring characters ever created. This movie is clearly below average, if you liked it you are the reason Hollywood is cranking out garbage these days. This man spent 10 times what District 9 costs and made a movie far worse, (not that that was any benchmark or the cat's meow), and this huge budget could have given 10 directors a shot at making something good. This block-bustering famous director / famous actor garbage has to stop. Expand

First of all, does he not understand the insane electricity bill the planet would be receiving every month due to the lighting sources placed in the ground? I also feel that he left out the Blue Penis demographic, which I believed this would be the only movie of the Winter that could compare to the Blue Penis quota set by Watchmen, which was still quite low. I was constantly amazed that everything (from the bugs to the foliage) I was looking at was 100% cg. The effects are so convincing and photorealistic it almost goes beyond comprehension. Never have cg characters emoted so convincingly. BTW: The "military" in this movie is not a branch of the US military or sanctioned by the government in any way.
