Honestly can’t say much about this game as I could not get to run well enough to play more than 8hrs. Could not get it to run smoothly above 30fps on my 3060ti unless I played windowed. As is the game gives me nausea. What I was able to play through did not impress me all too much in terms of RPG depth, especially coming off BG3.

This game attempts many things and accomplishes very few, and the early game is an appallingly slow burn, forcing you to play many hours before you start to realize the fun parts will never arrive. Ground combat is Fallout 4 but slightly less clunky. Space combat feels like a series of unwieldy boxes whirling around above a planet, about as fast paced and exciting as helping an old lady across the street. Any kind of space flight besides this is nonexistent, space exploration consists of loading screens and takeoff/landing cinematics. The other part of space exploration is running on foot thousands of meters across a fishbowl map on a generic planet or barren moon, to find the same copy/pasted outpost you discovered on the first moon you visited, with all the same items and npc's in the same exact places. Outpost building is an absolute joke. You would think it would be good, being the third iteration of Bethesda's building system, but in SPACE. It's not, it's 4 prefab structures, 2 landing pads (1 of which doesn't work) and a bunch of large stuff you have to build on the ground outside because there's no nice foundations to build and build on and they don't fit in the very generic premade hab shapes they give you. Followers are uninspired and forgettable and dialogue is limited to Good or Edgy. The only real effect of this dialogue is getting your boring pack animal companion to complain at you for not being enough of a Lawful Good Paladin type. The background and character building is vapid and thin, with my outlaw Professor being universally recognized for having briefly worked on a mining crew at the beginning of the game before getting railroaded into the main quest, or rather, the main series of identical fetch quests that lead you to the lazily written and plainly uninspired conclusion of the very forgettable main story. I paid a hundred bucks to get this in Early Access in spite of having Game Pass because I believed in the strength of the games Bethesda used to make, but the only memorable thing about this game is that I had to play well past the refund time to get the full scope of how bad this Triple-A blockbuster game turned out to be. I fear for the disaster that Elder Scrolls 6 is likely to be, and Bethesda has finally lost me entirely. After many games and thousands of cumulative hours, I won't day one or early access anything from them anymore because they can't be trusted. Expand

Starfield for Xbox left me thoroughly disappointed. Despite the anticipation, the game fails to deliver on multiple fronts. The promised immersive space exploration experience is marred by numerous bugs and technical issues. From crashes to texture pop-ins, the game feels unpolished and rushed.

The story, touted as a grand interstellar epic, falls flat. It lacks depth and fails to engage players in a meaningful way. Characters are one-dimensional and their interactions feel forced. The dialogue choices, while promising, often lead to inconsequential outcomes, rendering the player's decisions insignificant.

Graphically, Starfield does not meet the expectations set by modern gaming standards. The visuals are underwhelming, with subpar textures and lack of attention to detail. Environments lack variety and fail to capture the awe-inspiring wonder of space exploration.

The gameplay mechanics also leave much to be desired. The controls are clunky and unresponsive, leading to frustrating combat encounters and navigation. The crafting and customization systems are convoluted, making it hard to engage with the game's mechanics in a meaningful way.

Furthermore, the game's open-world structure feels empty and devoid of life. While space should be teeming with opportunities for discovery and excitement, Starfield's universe feels barren and monotonous. The lack of dynamic events or emergent gameplay further exacerbates the issue, leaving players with a sense of emptiness.

In conclusion, Starfield for Xbox is a prime example of unfulfilled potential. It falls short in nearly every aspect, from technical execution to narrative depth and gameplay mechanics. For a game that promised to take players on an unforgettable journey through the stars, it ultimately delivers a forgettable and lackluster experience.

Starfield for Xbox promised a galactic adventure but delivered a lackluster experience. Even when it does run smoothly, the graphics are underwhelming, failing to capture the majesty of space exploration.

The gameplay mechanics feel clunky and unpolished, making it difficult to immerse oneself in the supposed grandeur of interstellar travel. The controls lack responsiveness, and the combat system is frustratingly simplistic, reducing encounters to repetitive button mashing.

Despite the expansive universe promised, the game's world-building falls flat. The planets lack diversity, feeling more like reskins of one another rather than distinct and captivating worlds. The NPCs offer little depth, their interactions often coming across as robotic and scripted.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect is the narrative. The story fails to engage, lacking the intrigue and emotional investment that one would expect from a space-faring epic. Characters are forgettable, and the plot twists are predictable at best.

In an era where open-world games are pushing boundaries, Starfield feels like a relic. It's a missed opportunity to create a captivating space odyssey, instead delivering a subpar experience that fails to live up to its ambitious premise. This game is a cautionary tale of how hype can lead to crushing disappointment.

From the moment I started playing, it became painfully clear that the game was riddled with technical issues. Glitches, crashes, and frame rate drops were constant companions, making any attempt at immersion a frustrating exercise in patience.

The graphics, touted as a selling point, were underwhelming at best. Textures were muddy, character models lacked detail, and environments felt sterile and lifeless. The supposed vastness of space was reduced to a series of bland and repetitive backdrops, failing to capture the awe-inspiring beauty that one would expect from a game set in the cosmos.

The story, a core element of any role-playing game, was equally disappointing. The plot lacked depth and coherence, with poorly developed characters spouting generic dialogue that did little to engage me. Choices felt inconsequential, and the moral dilemmas presented were shallow and unconvincing. It was as if the developers had hastily thrown together a narrative without putting in the effort to create a truly captivating universe.

Even the gameplay mechanics left much to be desired. The controls were clunky and unresponsive, leading to frustrating combat encounters and awkward movement. The exploration aspect, which should have been a highlight given the game's setting, felt like a chore due to the lack of meaningful discoveries and the prevalence of repetitive fetch quests.

To make matters worse, the game's performance issues were compounded by a lack of optimization. Loading times were excruciatingly long, and the overall experience was marred by constant loading screens, further detracting from any sense of immersion.

In the end, Starfield on Xbox feels like a rushed and unfinished product that was pushed out the door to capitalize on the hype surrounding it. It's a prime example of a game that had potential but was ultimately squandered by a combination of technical shortcomings, lackluster design, and a general lack of polish. As a long-time fan of both RPGs and space exploration games, I can't help but feel deeply disappointed by what could have been a standout title in both genres.

No company can ride a legacy and do absolutely nothing to further that legacy like Bethesda and Starfield exemplifies this. One of the most over hyped and under delivering games of 2023 and quite possibly the whole generation, on any platform, bar none. From the jittery inconsistent barely 30 fps that was like razors to my eyes, to the 2 gen old outdated graphics, the ugly NPC's, the lobotomized AI, the litany of load screens, the terrible voice acting and the horrendous sound, it truly is an onslaught on the senses. The principles of design used in this game is straight out of 2004. For a game that is supposed to be the heavily exploration based and encouraged, there is almost no reason to explore, unless you want to run into an invisible wall. The game does have moments of broken brilliance, which will be used for comedic content for years to come.

The immersion is nonexistent, nevermind it breaking. You're in space. You pick a planet. You pick an area. It loads. No hyper space, no navigating, no landing your space ship. Nothing. Just a load screen. You land and are kinda just dumped onto the "planet"... which is nothing more than a small area that is completely disconnected from the rest of the "planet". You go into a structure. It loads. You leave the structure, it loads. You go onto your ship and it pops a menu up. You pick going back to space. It loads and it spits you out in the middle of nowhere.

This is the most uninspired and outdated game I have seen in ages. It's straight out of the OG Xbox Era. I'm scared to get smacked by a Duke controller. The space fighting is slow, clunky and boring. Many MANY games have done it better, including Wing Commander on the SNES. The saddest part of this is that it doesn't even get "good" until you beat it. Unfortunately, life is too short and I didn't feel like torturing myself anymore and tapped out after 20 hours. I'd have demanded a refund, except I got this for free and Microsoft doesn't refund their customers for wasted life force. This game should not get a pass because it is better than their other games in some ways. Especially when it is a dumpster fire compared to other space exploration games and/or other RPG's that exist today and in years past.

Get No Man's Sky. Starfield is the Wish version of that game. Except it's over-funded. You can tell just by how homogeneous and boring that this game is, that this game nothing more than a contractual obligation... almost like Sunset Overdrive. This game is trying to take Redfall's title for worst game of the generation. Definitely "game of the generation" Xbox fans have been waiting for.

If there are no vicious bugs that seriously affect the game experience when it is released, it will be considered a success.

This game was overhyped and over promised and it failed to deliver on every front. The character customization is mediocre at best which is very confusing as Bethesda has made character customization time and time again yet they cannot deliver a robust and detailed customization system. Most of all this game is hard to look at let alone play because of the egregious lack of smoothness. Exclusive to Xbox Series X, yet it failed to run at 60 FPS. Terrible 30 FPS gameplay that commonly dips below 30. Seamless space exploration was promised yet there are fast travel points and boundaries preventing you from truly exploring space. This is one of many examples of how the game was overhyped and over promised yet it failed to deliver. This game truly is an insult to gamers. Expand

There are other things which hamper the experience such as the abundance of loading screens, the lack of good space combat & space travel but I'm way more dissapointed that Bethesda hasn't bothered to improve on their foundations. Based on the content currently displayed in the game, the attitude of the Starfield production team is problematic. I don't understand, when the loading screen that occurs when opening doors can clearly be replaced with an animation, why won't Todd do it? Sometimes the loading blackout even happens after the door opening animation.

I'm really disappointed, I've been waiting for this match for a long time and now it's a cold shower.

    Let me explain:

I was expecting an innovative game. This is what Bethesda was selling us as an argument. They also sold the game to us by telling us "The planets will be explorable in their entirety".

But that's not the case, we're on Fallout 4, in space, with a procedural generation similar to that of No Man's Sky, AND THE BIG BLACK POINT (for me anyway): we can't land freely on a planet, nor take atmospheric flight or travel in a vehicle on the surface of a planet. WHICH MEANS THAT EXPLORATION (which they sold us!) ONLY EXISTS DURING LOADING TIMES!!

The game is completely empty (well no, it's filled with "space pirates" everywhere outside of cities), and if you've ever played Fallout 4 you'll understand that the game is exactly a carbon copy, but in space with procedural generation (and less well)...

The story is sloppy as possible, we find ourselves propelled into the adventure with a simple snap of the fingers (and it's called "RPG"), I'm not going to spoiler but it's really not a credible story. And apart from the story, most of the NPCs you come across will have a small side quest to allow you to negotiate with a particular person, or look for an object,... in short, Fallout 4 (procedural) and no surprises.

Moreover, the "negotiations" are generally totally false and this inevitably leads to a fight.

Procedural generation obviously only serves to make us stay on GamePass with a myriad of bogus quests and pirates in every corner of the map.

Bethesda, you made a terrible mistake in getting bought by Microsoft.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
