Not great, no terrible. That sums it up.

I mean, I needed quite a few mods to make it even playable for me. First of all 1/3 of people experience motion sickness, but geniuses from Bethesda didn't bother to add a FOV slider in the game. Default FOV is set at 70 (wtf?). Had to make a ini file and configure it myself. Also, graphics look dated as frick unless you remove green filter

Also, graphics look dated as frick unless you remove green filter (it makes all textures look flat) had to download a mod for that as well.
Overall some parts of the game are cool, but some are extremely lazy. It feels unfinished and unpolished.

    Cons:
    * Outdated engine. Loading screens everywhere. 2D grass and trees. Aww come on!
    * UI on PC is a nightmare. Luckily there are some mods that make UI experience more streamlined, but really, 7 years of development and you just make a dump on PC players?
    * Writing is mostly dull and uninspiring. Like an AI would write all dialogues and quests. Feels soulless and boring with some notable exceptions.
    * Characters so far are very forgettable and bland. Can't compare with Baldur's Gate 3 at all. Please hire new writers.
    * Exploration is kind a fake. Game just renders small map around you with locations of interest, but the problem is - its bloody repeating. You will run into the same scientific center, same caves, same buildings over and over again on different planets. Its ridiculous how boring it is.
    * Space exploration is also fake. You will spend most of your time in the menu clicking fast travel icons, thats all.
    * Dialogues, quests so far are very bland, go there, kill a pirate, yay, collect loot. Repeat.
    * Choices and consequences? What consequences lol? Most of dialogue options are meaningless. There's no moral dilemma, no hard choices, you just join all the factions at once and do their quests without a bat of the eye, be a pirate and anti pirate at the same time, nobody cares.
    * Cities feel fake. Main city - the New Atlantis feels just like Mass Effect's city - the Citadel (2007 game). NPCs are just standing around or randomly walking from point A to B...then disappearing. Its not believable. Nobody is eating, drinking coffee or acting like real people, there are no flying cars around, its just lifeless. Even Cyberpunk's Night city feels alive compared to Starfield city life.
    * Space combat is just terrible. Maybe I need to invest more skill points, but now its just awful.
    * Enemies are bullet sponges and there's no kill cam. Really? Will you make us pay for that?
    * AI is quite terrible. It gets stuck everywhere and just gliches out.
    * There could be more interesting random encounters and unique bosses & enemies.
    * Universe should feel more alive. Now it feels fake. In Skyrim at least there were NPCs with full day routines, some even traveling between cities. Not in Starfield.
    * Your first romanceable character is a 50 years old women with any lack of unique personality.

    Pros:
    * Music
    * Ship building
    * I am a sucker for sci-fi space games
    * Crazy modding community - ready to save the game from day one

Overall game feels dated and bland. Bethesda uses the same old engine adnd same old uninspiring approach to game development as before.
I can recommend this game only if you get a massive discount. I paid premium price for it, of course I am not happy.

While I still probably will play it and enjoy modding community's offerings, I still will set it to "not recommended", because I want Bethesda to hear us out and make TES 6 to be greater than anything made before.
If fanboys and normies keep buying 10 different versions of Starfield, Starfield Enhanced version, Starfield Ultimate, Anniversary edition etc. without ANY complaints - Bethesda will make TES 6 using the same old engine and same old commercial, soulless approach, you will see.

It's not fun. It puts me to sleep every time.

Poor combat experience, enemy AI retarded. The plot is too flat to be fun. And why can it be transmitted wherever it is? To cover up a vast but barren world?

But. At no point in the game am I actually having fun in the moment. For the first dozen hours, I am instead merely anticipating enjoyment, but it never comes. This is because the developers were so focussed on the big things I listed above that they forgot to make any of the constituent elements of those things interesting or fun.

The space fights devolve into trivial encounters in which one holds a button while following another ship, or they consist of a series of jousts. The ground combat is seriously like something out of the 90s, the AI is basic AF and the layout of the missions means that an interesting stealth approach is generally unfeasible.

The missions are structured in a way that leaves one simply fast travelling and waiting in loading screens, or even worse, following a cookie cutter npc as they walk incredibly slowly towards another npc. When the NPCs speak, it is with half arsed vocal performances delivering lines so boring that one learns mash the skip button within 5 minutes of playing.

Anyone who's played Star Citizen knows that one of the best things about that game is how seamless the transition between atmosphere and space is, the knowledge that you could actually fly 2km down to the surface and land your ship enriches the (broken) experience so much. The fact that Bethesda did not allow us to fly in atmosphere and land our ships and all that is baffling to me. They go to all this effort to make different planets and outer space, but don't actually link them in an interesting way. Because of this, each planet, and space itself, feels siloed when it should all feel connected and open.

Genuinely, honestly, the highlight of this game is the lockpicking. Finally someone has found a nice middle ground in difficulty for this age-old game mechanic.

Between the interest in this, Star Citizen and No Man's Sky, we know the market for a great space opera game is out there. No one seems quite able to pull it off.

Another problem is the facial expressions of the characters, and my God, how ugly they are! I did not get spoiled by anything, did not read any hype review, I just wanted to play a good new Bethesda game - since they are so proud of the fact it's the first truly new IP in 25 years, I hoped they'd really deliver on it... since I started playing their games with Morrowind, I had some hopes they'd make it. Sadly they did not.

Sadly they did not.

    TL;DR:
They did a Fallout 76 on their "Space Skyrim" - OR: The Space Skyrim that never was. If you are a fan of Sci-Fi and "Open World" - which works in the strongest sense of the word in this game since the vastness the game simulates is humongous... however it feels almost like an empty shell when you get to explore. Much like No Man's Sky, it only gives the impression of being big and exciting, with great variations. The systems are a chore - even worse than Oblivions "use a Skill 100 times to advance in level" system, this game makes you work for even being able to Sneak, Lockpick and steer bigger space ships. It would all be acceptable if the grind wasn't that downright dull, if the Characters you meet in your first stretch of the journey weren't that kind of empty and one-dimensional-feeling and the Ship / Space mechanics weren't that "Elite Dangerous" kind of level.

This way, you get the worst out of 3 genres and all mashed into one humongous - albeit good-looking on Xbox X, game - on PC better prepare to have a huge graphics card budet that'd buy you two Xbox Series X likely and a year of Game Pass. Maybe that's what Microsoft/Beth wanted? Sell those Xboxes... it might work initially but boy, when the people get to playing this they just might be regretting that decision.

Bethesda seem to really love their "random number generator" engine - it drove many of their Elder Scrolls and the new Fallouts to new heights - but back then these games had a Soul infused in form of a major storyline, exciting characters to meet all across the Wastes or the vast action-filled mysterious world of Tamriel.

If they have the "whole of eternity" to work with, it seems the previous ingenuity of Bethesda seems to get dulled and stretched too far. This game has an inkling of the brilliance that was the first 5 hours of most any Elder Scrolls Game or Fallouts 3, New Vegas and 4 - but once the vacuum of Space sucks at your brain when you realize the first 5 hours of this Megahyped Game do not reach the old heights but are a downright borefest it's a bit sad.

Prefieren sacrificar la calidad de sus juegos y el tiempo de desarrollo por comodidad, por no ponerse a estudiar y mirar cómo mejorar o intentar estar cerca del estándar actual. Over hyped. The xbox version at 30fps is jarring. The game itself is decent, but the world's and exploration are not as they described and hyped it up to be. It's literally fallout with space. It feels like it's been done before........No Man's Sky lol Except to be fair this has better graphics.

Nobody needs a "1000" planets, they could have populated far few and the experience would be better. With the way the game is designed there is alot of stopping and starting due to this. Most planets will appear the same and lack diversity, no cultural significance is gained from venturing to different solar systems, the universe is universal. What you experience is quite bland and the environments appear sterile without any significant character. The game looks great and is optimised well for the xbox series x where I've only had a couple of crashes in my 30 hour play through. The bland fallout in space, fast travel simulator isn't what I was expecting.

A single player RPG without micro-transactions, a massive world with many hand-crafted locations that definitely provide for memorable scenes, events and experiences on the one hand, on the opposite a myriad of loading screens, barren landscapes that are just material item dumps and the worst possible way of implementing space combat I have seen since Star Trek on the ATARI.

To start with the BAD parts, first of all the worst things of this game that is supposed to be space exploration are... well, "space" and "exploration". Space is, excluding Bethesda's roughly 100 handcrafted locations, a huge soulless void. You start on a map screen, choose a star system, check the next screen, choose a planet or moon, check the next screen, click on a spot to land and then all you do is run around to pick up rocks. Some planets have enemies and other stuff to pick up (yay, plants) and there is a set of random locations from the "abandoned facility and loot item caves" catalogue, which gets repetitive very, very soon.

WHEN you visit a planet with a non-random hand-crafted location, that is where the game shines. I won't spoil anything, but there have been a lot of locations in the first 50 hours of my play so far with great environmental storytelling, places that gave me the creeps etc. - just do the mission where you have to get the wine and you'll know what I mean, that location was insanely fun to play.

But then, space combat feels like dreaming about playing Superman 64 and desperately trying to wake up and is absolutely unplayable unless the difficulty is set to the lowest. Apart from seeing my ship land for 800 times in non-skippable loading screens the controls suck, and there's just no point to have this in the game. Space is not freely explorable, you just chase a few squares above a planet JPG backdrop basically, it doesn't even feel like you're actually moving the ship in any direction, more like changing camera angles until you finally have the damn enemy ship in your crosshairs.

Back to the good stuff. A lot of characters have a LOT to talk about, sometimes little quests will start during seemingly small-talk conversations, and the world building is great. I spent literally the first 3 hours of the game just in the first city talking to people and I was not bored at all. NPCs move around, some talk to each other enabling you to listen in on their conversations, and doing that sometimes actually triggers a quest. And then, on the other hand there's the companions. There's not a lot of them, most of them have to be "bought" to even follow you, and there's maybe 1 or 2 that are interesting. Most are bland and boring, and the ones that seem fun at first either have a weird accent or are useless in battle. Even just the mercenaries for hire in Skyrim are a more interesting squad of characters than all the companions in Starfield combined.

I had a good time so far, and I will keep playing for hundreds of hours for sure, but Starfield is definitely no revolution (it probably also was never meant to be one in the first place) and I don't feel the immersion I felt while playing Oblivion, Skyrim or any of the Fallout games from Bethesda, which is probably due to the fact that there is too much of everything (too many planets, too many systems, etc.) but it definitely is a game that you can have a good time with, the shooting is decent enough, the story is good, some of the faction story lines are good, the music is very good at times, and if you can work around the insanely dumb space combat and don't mind running around for 10 minutes on a grey landmass with nothing but sand and rock just to get 4 chunks of aluminum, you're going to enjoy it.

The graphics to say that fluctuating is an understatement. In many places it is also unpresentable in 2023 for a production of this magnitude and who is behind it in terms of studio and budget. It has fps drops and stuttering.
    The story is nothing special.
Let's move on to the gameplay
Bad gunplay, where there is no hit feedback. Unpresentable stealth and melee. The enemy AI is the ugliest ever seen in a videogame
Cities are never alive but they have NPCs that are dummies. They don't run away when you aim a weapon, or when you shoot. And so did a game like Cyberpunk that had a disastrous exit. This thing does not lead you to immerse yourself in the game world
The animations and faces you can't turn a blind eye to
How does the many loads it has not lead you to immerse yourself in the game. Another sore point. Everything is a load that accumulated brings problems to the player.
Anyone who says it's a bug-free game is lying to you shamelessly. There are and they are many.
Another sore part is the section in space. Everything summarized you are not free to move that there are artificial barriers that the game puts on you
It's great to be able to make the spacecraft however you want even if it's quite cumbersome and not very simple. The question of questions.. But since you can't navigate through space like in No man's Sky so to speak with docking and take-off etc. What's the point of making a spacecraft if in the end you can only use it for cargo or for those sections where there is space combat? Answer to nothing. A nice bait and switch
Another sore point the 1000 planets. All or almost empty. Wasn't it enough to make less and more cared for? No, the fanboys' justification is that in real life the planets are empty. Let's repeat the **** Ashley Cheng said that it doesn't have to be a playground.
They basically gave us quantity for quality.

The good things about this game?
First of all the wonderful music. The world building isn't bad either and some of the sidequest are very nice

Let's all take a moment to laugh at that tagline. Bethesda's classics like ES5 and the Fallout series? Those were playgrounds of imagination, richly detailed worlds with tons to do and see. But this? This is like Bethesda forgot what made them great in the first place.

Remember how they hyped up these procedurally generated worlds? What a joke. You'd have a better time running laps in your backyard than traversing these barren, copy-pasted landscapes. It's cardio training, the game. But hey, don't worry, you'll be well-acquainted with the loading screens that pop up every time you so much as sneeze. Enter ship, loading screen. Sit down, loading screen. Take off, oh look, another loading screen. The game practically doubles as a slideshow.

And let's chat about the main quest for a second. If your idea of fun is a never-ending series of fetch quests, boy, are you in for a treat! Invested time building an outpost and a decent ship? Well, pat yourself on the back, you've just wasted hours for an ending that couldn't be more uninspired if it tried. Remember the multiple-choice endings in Fallout 4? Yeah, none of that here. It's like they dangled a carrot of choice in front of us, only to yank it away and replace it with a stick.

The facial animations make you wonder if they're all just animatronics gone wrong, and the AI is so bad it makes a Roomba look like a tactical genius. Ship combat? A glorified exercise in tedium. I've seen indie games from seven years ago that offer better exploration experiences than this heap of disappointment.

And let's not even start on the performance issues. Crashes within the first 10 minutes? Check. Frame rates that give you a headache? Double check. And for the love of gaming, why are we still dealing with 30 FPS on next-gen consoles? I didn't invest in a powerful console to play something that looks like it belongs on the Xbox 360.

The visuals? Dated doesn't begin to describe it. The game feels so last-gen, you'll wonder if you accidentally fired up an old console. And don't even get me started on the pronoun drama. It's unnecessary, sure, but honestly, that's the least of this game's sins.

The one saving grace? It's on Game Pass. Spend $10, realize it's garbage, and then go play one of the 400 other, better games you could be enjoying. I actually bought this travesty and managed to get a refund—consider that a public service announcement. Just save yourself the time and money: skip Starfail

Starfield is a massive open-world space RPG developed by Bethesda Game Studios. It has been in development for over 10 years and has been met with high expectations. However, after playing the game for over 50 hours, I am left feeling disappointed.

The game's biggest strength is its exploration. There are over 100 star systems to explore, each with its own planets, moons, and space stations. There is a lot to see and do in this vast galaxy, and I found myself getting lost in the exploration for hours at a time.

However, the game's exploration is also its biggest weakness. The planets are all procedurally generated, which means that they can feel samey and repetitive. There is also a lack of variety in the wildlife and the environment.

The game's combat is also underwhelming. It is serviceable, but it is not very engaging. The weapons feel weak and the enemies are not very challenging.

The game's story is also a letdown. It is predictable and uninspired. The characters are also one-dimensional and forgettable.

Overall, Starfield is a disappointment. It is a vast and ambitious game, but it is held back by its technical flaws and its lack of polish. I would only recommend this game to fans of Bethesda games who are willing to overlook its shortcomings.

Here are some specific criticisms of the game:

The game is buggy and unstable. I encountered several bugs during my playthrough, including quests that would not progress and enemies that would not spawn.
The game is poorly optimized. The frame rate can be choppy, even on high-end PCs.
The game's UI is clunky and unintuitive. It can be difficult to find what you are looking for.
The game's dialogue is wooden and unnatural. The characters often say things that do not make sense.
The game's quests are repetitive and uninspired. There are not many memorable quests in the game.
I am sure that some people will enjoy Starfield, but I believe that it is a flawed game that does not live up to its potential. I hope that Bethesda will address the game's shortcomings in future updates.

That said, it is not a bad game, even if it is extremely bare bones at the moment. You can go pretty much everywhere you see - which is nice - but sadly, there isn't that much to "see" on the way - in space, which is a big part of space travel, yes? - as every time you hop aboard your ship to switch planets/moons/systems, you're treated to a loading screen. You spend very little time on your ship considered how much that is a part of star-faring.
There is a veritable ton of quests and little events, ranging from your usual go-there-and-find-this to surveying to bounty hunting, nothing earthshaking but the variety is there. The main quest moves on tracks, though, so if you're expecting the sort of freedom you may have found thrilling in a game that starts with the letter "B" and ends in the numeral "3", cast away that hope. You, the player, in terms of the main questline, are a hound the npcs point in a direction. You are, of course, free to ignore the main quest entirely - which you can't do in that other game - so... yeah.
Long story short, this is a Bethesda game, at launch. As we all know, these games become great, both in looks and in in-depth content, after the players make them great. Bethesda just creates the framework, and they've done so relatively bug free for a Bethesda game, here. (Although my game crashed the moment i launched it for the first time, which made me laugh, it hasn't crashed again or encountered any game-breaking bugs after that during the c. 40 hours I've clocked in now.)
I don't really see why people are so up in arms about Starfield being the best or the worst Bethesda title, as, in its current blank state, it sits quite comfortably in the middle, waiting to see how far the modding community will take it. And there is much, much more room here than in Skyrim.
That being said, the price tag for what is technically a beautiful frame with the outlines of a painting is a bit steep. The time spent in development is no excuse, seeing how much of it has been outsourced.
Hopefully, this one goes the way Skyrim did, which depends largely on the community, now. Is that good company policy for a gargantuan studio? Go figure.

Further, the inventory and item System has still the same flaw as fallout, quickly you are a walking dumpster and a lot of time is spend throwing stuff away. Also, if you are used to the colourful environment from NMS, the planets are dull. Everyone says we have to play 50 hours before it get fun but i will not risk my time for this. AI is really bad and we cannot use ship on planets. UI is horrible, fast travel kill immersion. - the characters seem all very dull, and the npcs are not very reactive.

I have never seen a game look so bad yet so good at the same time. Some locations like spaceships and rooms look amazing with incredible detail. Other areas look very low pixel and from prev gen. Overall it can give you a somewhat good questing experience with some of the faction quests, but the wider exploration is lacking in depth. In previous games like fallout i would explore a building and find notes and visual aids (skeletons in certain positions, broken items etc) that would tell a story about what happened in the location. In starfield i have yet to come across something similar that provides a world build experience. Bugs are still quite common even if they are not crashing the game, and AI is non existant.

This would be great game for the mid 00s in the 2020s - where creature comforts like constant loading screens are finally becoming a thing of the past. If I went straight from Oblivion or Morrowind to this - I would be blown away.

For every beautiful space station and city, there are literal miles of bland uninteresting space - that you are required to walk and awkwardly travel through to get anywhere. For every clever line of dialog - there's thousands of meters of running, walking, running, walking, and running again in an unpolished and ultimately boring landscape. For every shiver down my spine when something cool happens, there's an equal amount of me shouting "WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME TODD?" when I fast travel to a door that treats me to yet another loading screen.

    Pros:
Gameplay is fun when immersion is kept, it has the same feeling as any other Fallout wit the added perk of space exploration, running and gunning while jumping in with the jetpack is glorious.

And the missions are good to keep you engaged for days, specially with the amazing soundtrack

    Cons:

    Ugly and lazily created NPCs.

Enemy AI is stupid, i had to change the difficulty to Hard so i could get a challenge by wasting more ammo.

Bugs Galore, people says that is normal for a Bethesda game, NO! IT SHOULDNT BE NORMAL!

So much Woke that Hurts, there is a difference between wanting inclusion, and wanting to "replace" a culture. There is no way that would exist many women on position of power in a lawless universe as this. There want on the past earth, it wont in the future space, specially when you read the history about wars, treachery, etc.

Most of the gameplay is just loading an screen to another, even worse than Outriders, space lost it's meaning because you can quick jump from a planet to another.

    TLDR:
Gamers should protest and let their voice be heard, if we pay our money, we want a fully working game!
And the stupid Woke Agenda should disappear from game, inclusion loses it's right when you want to exclude what other people's likes.

There is really no exploration to speak of. I suppose you can "explore" various unknown landmarks on planets but that's no different than something like FarCry. Actual exploration in space, however, is non-existent (-1pt). The most egregious miss, in my opinion, is the fact that space travel, which is really important to get right, for immersion, in a space rpg, is relegated to fast traveling everywhere (-1pt). Had they simply made fallout in space, I think it would have been received better. But after all the hype and speculation of what Starfield would be and to have the devs lean into that hype and not correct false expectations on the spot leads to the disappointment we're seeing. I seriously can't believe Bethesda has failed their main fortes: Exploration , freedom, feeling alone, getting lost in the world... These were the most consistent features of the Bethesda titles, even though they got streamlined in time. I don't care and mind loading screens, graphics, poor combat etc. I am not a big Fallout fan but I have played and am still playing from Daggerfall to Skyrim only with only bug patches and QoL & UI mods... I really wish this was "Skyrim but in space" "Fallout but in space"... It would be more than mediocre at best if that was correct.

Endless loading screens instead of a seamless experience of exploration and true role-playing. NPC's and facial animations are a real disappointment after playing games like Witcher 3, Death Stranding and Baldur's Gate 3 and one of these is from eight years ago. Exploration is horrendously boring; you land on a barren patch of a world, with mundane points of interest (often space base or meteor landing site, etc), that you have to walk to (for minutes on end). Mass

Exploration is horrendously boring; you land on a barren patch of a world, with mundane points of interest (often space base or meteor landing site, etc), that you have to walk to (for minutes on end). Mass Effect released, what? a decade ago? And knew it required a vehicle. And although exploration in Mass Effect was there it wasn't the main draw of Mass Effect. Starfield pulled us in with dreams of exploration, a No Man's Sky on steroids, it is not.

Combat is mind-numbingly bad. Almost all enemies are human bullet-sponges who require a full clip or thereabouts to bring down. It is the most tired, uninspired combat I've seen in a long time. People compare it to Fallout 4, but again it's like a trimmed down F04. You can't insta-kill enemies with head shots, or use vats. The guns are generic and limited, and most of the enemies are the exact same. FO4 had a wide variety of guns with deep customization and a huge variety of enemies. Starfield is Fallout 4, if FO4 only had: laserguns, rifles, pistols, shotguns (that all do the same damage) and the bandit enemy type. Sure if you venture into the woods you'll find the odd mutated crab, but that would be it. Comparing this game to Fallout 4 is a disservice to Fallout 4.

One of the worst things however are the loading screens. You'll hit one every few minutes, unless you stick to fighting 50 space bandits on some space base, or explore an empty desert of a world.

At one point I came to the realization that I was watching more cutscenes of my ship fly to different worlds than actually flying my ship.

Space combat is ok, but I wouldn't call it the main draw. Since they ripped off No Mans Sky I think many of us expected the travel of No Mans Sky, I would have taken that over space combat any time.

To the weird people creating accounts solely to defend this game, you are doing a disservice to Bethesda as a whole. They need to know how they **** up, they need to see that this game isn't good, and they need to start improving.

It's a big game, but starts way too slowly, and may never get interesting.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
