Bethesda games were great as open world games. This is in no way open anything, its just a million different rooms you cut scene/loading screen/cut scene to. Most things about this game feel like a couple generations old, AI, UI and most NPCs, also the fact that it has to do a loading screen everywhere. This game feels extremely dated.

The game is poorer in many places than games released 20 years ago, such as the character generator, inventory and clothing management. Base building is as pathetic as in FO76, well embarrassing. What shocked me the most is that the codes from Oblivion work in a game from 23!
The game deserves 7/10, but given the misleading marketing I take away one point, because it is unacceptable for corporations to make such a mockery of players. To reviewers giving 10/10 I recommend going to confession.

This isn't just a bad Bethesda game, it's just a bad game full stop.

Skyrim is a top 5 GOAT and this is a step back in some ways, 12 years later. Starfield looks great, but fails in almost every other way. Whoever decided on 90% of the game being 900 barren "planets" that are actually just small regions squared off and said that was fun should be fired. Starfield makes me worry for TES6 because I've been waiting 12 years for that and if this is their best next gen effort then that's bad news.

Much better than fallout 4. Some of the dialogues are still cringe, but most them are really good. Neon is a blast. Main plot starts slow but interesting. Shooting is fun, ship building is really good. Face animation sucks. Very often people in dialogues are not facing the character at all, you can only see their backs.

Fallout 4 but without the open expanse to explore. Non stop loading screens break up what could be a great exploration game. Outerworlds with a larger budget and polish.

They said Starfield was Skyrim in space & yet it feels more like Fallout in space. The only thing Skyrim like about Starfield is the old outdated inventory system and the fact that u can pocket almost everything in the game. That's about it. In the first 10 minutes of play, the game crashed & kicked me to the homescreen. I guess that too is Skyrim like. If I were someone who paid $70 or more for this game, I would be angry. Instead, I got this in Gamepass just like Redfall & we all know how that turned out. I have to admit, the visuals in Starfield look very dated. The frame rate is not stable and not locked at 30. It's not a smooth experience at all, and within 15 minutes, the game gave me a headache. That comes from poor optimization. It too is really hard playing games at 60fps & going back to 30 & that's what u have with Starfield. The space fights are about as boring as it gets. They are tedious to the point where you'll want to avoid them at all costs which is almost impossible. There literally is no excitement in this game. I almost fell asleep playing while exploring a planet. When I started playing Starfield, it literally felt like I was playing an old Xbox 360 game. It just feels dated! There is absolutely nothing next gen about this game or this experience. And why is the game freezing up on the most powerful console ever made? Why? Is Starfield a 1, 2, 3, 4, or a 5 rated game? No. I think those ratings are very unfair as people are probably review bombing the game. I think some people will have some fun in this game, just from the size & scope of the game alone.. There is a lot to do in this game! I have a friend who is a true fanboy and he absolutely loves this game. It's blows my mind, but opinions will always vary & I respect people's opinions especially in gaming. This is why the reviews are so mixed. For me, Starfield is not a next gen experience & it's not a game that people will want to sink 30 hours in before they start liking the game. Yes,, Starfield has pronouns. Pronouns are annoying and not necessary at all in this game. Why they are pushing ideologies & politics in video games is beyond me, but the pronoun thing isn't as obtrusive as some have made it out to be. It's very unnecessary but that doesn't make this game bad. It has many issues despite the pronouns. I have 3 Xbox Series Xs & one Series S in my home & 3 Gamepass subscriptions. I did not spend all of this money on this service & all of this money on the most powerful console ever made, for games that look dated & are poorly optimized like Starfield. If this is next gen on the Xbox, it's a step backwards in my book. Starfield could be better, but maybe in a few years when the mod community gets ahold of it & when Bethesda decides to use a better engine. For the people who question whether I'm an Xbox gamer & question whether this review is legit- most of my gaming is done on Xbox and has been since the OG Xbox days. Like I said, I have 4 Xbox next gen consoles & only 2 PS5s. So I'm invested way more into Xbox than Playstation. I have right at a thousand game library on Xbox & maybe 200 on Playstation. Xbox by far is where my gaming money is spent. It's sad that u have to explain stuff like this because of rabid fanboys & biased gaming sites will toss the review up as bombing. If I wanted to bomb it, I'd just give it a 1, & from where I sit, it's a 6 or 7 all day long. Expand

It Is the Game Engine That Is the First Building Block That Is the Determination Of How Great A Game Will Be Produced In A Great Game To Be Developed By the Game Engine!!! The Story Should Have Lasted At Least 100 Hours!!! I Never Understood In Game Development How You Can Create A Location and Yet That Location Would Not Be Part Of the Story,??? The Locations In A Game World Has To Be Made For the Story In Of Itself Not For the Sake Of Just To Be Made!!!! Why In the World Did Starfield Get Produced With 1000 Planets When Those 1000 Planets Do Not Have Any Purpose To Explore Them For There Is No Quests On Them To Do, I Would Have Rather Had Lets Say 200 Planets Handcrafted To Make As Part Of A Cohesive Story Not 1000 Planets With Nothing To Do On Them!!!! Combat, enemy AI and various other elements feel like a step backwards from Fallout 4.
But for me, the worst part are the stories.
Now in previous Bethesda games, the unique and original stories were what made me love them. Such fascinating stuff. But in Starfield, the stories feel very bland in comparison, and in many places, feel like they were ripped from Mass Effect and other scifi sources. So, not very original or unique.
Any good stuff? Well, character creator is very good, and there are plenty of interesting skills to choose from. Unfortunately not all of those skills have that much use in the game proper! So, this means that you are given a promise of a deep RPG with all those skills, but then you will actually be playing a very shallow looter-shooter.
Bugs? Sure. Lots of them. But what game does not have them at launch. But I can already see, even when patched up, the game will not be nearly as good as other Bethesda games. 6/10, and that because I like Bethesda.

Expand

In reality this game is average it does some stuff right, does some stuff horribly and the rest is mediocre filler content. If you really want to know whats good/bad from someone who is indifferent, here it is.

    The Good:
Combat is cool/ varied weapons and boosting through shooting is fun
Different equipment/stats makes for some cool builds
Alot of missions/side mission to sink your time in
    Art style is cool
Ship building is fun if you can digest the ui

    The bad:
Horrible UI all over the game
You spend about 30% of your gameplay time in menus (maybe 50% if u engage with crafting/ outpost building mechanics)
Exploration is Instanced loading screen galore (and a lot of menus)
    Stupid encumbrance system
    Outdated graphics
    Bad Optimization

    The Average:
    Meh main story
Many missions are either fetch quests or go kill someone
Choices are either meaningless or has no real effect on story progress
AI is just A without the I
less bugs than Bethesda's history but still there

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have spent 19 hours playing this game on my Series S. I have not engaged with the shipbuilding or base building mechanic. I spent most of my time completing the main quest and think I have reached the final mission.

I will try to judge the game based on what it is, rather than what I wanted it to be.

**Spoilers ahead** Here are my thoughts:

    Story/main quest:
The game starts off as poorly as everyone says. You touch a spooky piece of metal and, immediately, someone shows up and gives you a ship. The robot on board is supposed to keep you from stealing the ship or heading off course. You fight a bunch of 'space pirates' and then you blast off. This introduction didn't bother me too much because it gets you into the game very quickly. It still isn't very good, though.

You join a group called Constellation which is seeking out these strange metal objects and associated 'xenostructures'. Most of the main missions follow one of two formulas after this:

1: Talk to guy on space station (which means watching the docking sequence and walking through the station) -> Fast travel to planet -> Look around until your scanner starts flickering -> Walk towards the 'interference (many times I did not need to use the scanner because the temple was clearly visible from my ship) -> Find a temple and enter it (they all look the same/similar) -> Float around the interior, floating into clusters of light until you power up the structure in the middle of the room -> absorb power- > Go back to your ship.

This essentially grants you the shouts from Skyrim and each temple follows this formula. That's it. No challenge or puzzle. Literally just walking from your ship to a temple (following your scanner if you can't see it already) and floating into clusters of light. It's repetitive and not engaging.

2: Go to a base somewhere, fight pirates, robots, or another human faction and find the 'Artefact'. There are variations of this, with later versions having a light puzzle element, but all are fundamentally the same. This quest design makes up a majority of the main quest and is, quite frankly, insipid.

The story itself did become more interesting abut halfway through when the 'Starborn' reveal themselves. The spooky pieces of metal that you have been collecting turn out to be a way to access 'Unity', something that grants people incredible power and the ability to hop between dimensions. The more times a 'Starborn' completes this journey, by collecting the artefacts, the more powerful they become.

Overall, the main quest and search for powers has been uninteresting and very repetitive. People say the side quests are better. But shouldn't the main quest be one of the most compelling parts of the game? It doesn't make me want to continue with the game.

    General gameplay:
The gameplay is very repetitive. I spent most of my time either running between objectives, talking to npcs, fast traveling, or shooting.

The shooting is ok. most enemies are bullet sponges and don't have any unique powers. The harder enemies usually just have more shields or health, higher numbers. Most of the time, I would unload a clip into an enemy and just run up to them and punch them to finish them off. It was actually quicker to do that most of the time.

That brings me onto the enemy AI. It is terrible, absolutely awful. One mission made me kill a bunch of space pirates, each with their own marker, and one of them ran in the opposite direction. They weren't fleeing; the AI is just broken. Similarly, the enemies never tried to flank me or do any interesting manoeuvres.

Ship combat is equally as bad and seems to just rely on your numbers being higher than the enemy's, which is not inherently bad. But there is no skill involved. A boss in Elden Ring can be defeated if you are at a low level if you have skill. Levelling makes the fight easier. This is not how it works in Starfield.

    Bugs and performance:
A few times characters would not appear during dialogue or would be facing the wrong way. The game crashed once when the menu failed to load, and I had to reload when my character got stuck talking to the floor and couldn't move (dialogue was triggered with a character below me). Sometimes my weapons became unresponsive. Switching to a different one fixed that. Also, sometimes the reticle flashes red like there is an enemy when there is nothing.

Overall, the game is perfectly mediocre. There are no high highs or low lows that make the game feel uneven and boring at times. The game is relatively consistent, probably because the loop for every main mission is almost exactly the same. I wouldn't say anything in this is ambitious or even new. It's full of mechanics and systems that we have seen before and seen done better.

I would also like to say that people should not be relying on mods to make this game better. It's literally a company benefitting from unpaid labour to make their own product better.

    Personajes/Historia: 10
Excelente historia, personajes memorables y excelentes actuaciones.

Honest review. It's quite janky. You can walk through most of the game with melee weapon. The traversing may be the worst i have ever seen in a video game. Fly for hours and see literally nothing.

Same old game as usual. Nothing knew in this game. Not bad, but definitely not good. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Zelda this year are making Starfield even less interesting. Great games in 2023. Starfield is not one of them.

It's just going to take time to get there. For instance, the game is optimised to run smoothly on a RTX4080 and that's from the horse's mouth. That card accounts for like 0.53% of users on steam. So, for the vast majority of players the game looks and feels terrible to play.

There is this huge gap between those that have the hardware to run the game and those that don't and as a game development company. Bethesda should be aware of this. The completely out of touch comment of, this is a next gen title when for most people the game looks and feels like a PS3 title. Is sadly going to mean lower scores on meta critic.

If reviewers were honest about the game, they would review the game on a 3060. Which is the top ish part of the bell curve for gpu performance on steam. If your game does not look and feel fantastic to play on a 3060. Ur going to have a bad day in the user review section of Metacritic.

I genuinely don't understand how people rate this a 0 or a 10. This game is mediocrity personified. It was hyped up to be game of the decade, but fell short completely. Is it big? Yes. Is it worth exploring? Barely. Does it give you a high degree of freedom? Yes, but not to the level that was promised. Is that freedom enjoyable? Barely, almost everything you do feels clunky and like a chore.

the main quest line has to be the most uninspiring dull, tedious and horrendously written story i've played yet.. its mostly go here, talk to them, go there, load load load, use menu to travel, load, shoot, talk, sneak, shoot, talk, load, fetch. most of the main story line is talking to people, and then delving into copy and pasted caves and dungeons etc to get the artificats. now.. there are a few great quests thrown in the main story, but by the time it picks up, its over.. theres no expert delivery, leaving you feel impacted by its story, world, characters or events.. theres minimal impact. the dialogue gets so tediously boring, you end up skipping alot of the filler content.. and the main story for 90% of it bored the living life out of me, with how tediously boring it was, paired with the insanely uninspiring and tediously annoying "exploration" system they have.. so even if one quest immersed you into its world, you're then taken straight back out of it, when your only means to travel is through menus and load screens. it doesnt exactly sound like unparrelled freedom and exploration, and is an insane set back in many ways in comparison to their other games. WOW is over 20 years old and you can seemlessly travel its map. this has no excuse. i had hoped the story would pick up and deliver a blow that made the tedious journey worth my time, but by the time i started to feel the build up, it was over with an anti climatic ending.. and a over hyped new game plus that had plenty of promise and potential to its jaw dropping plot twists, but ultimately fell flat as it leads nowhere at all to make any significant difference to your story, other than a few dialogue changes, but plopping you back into its dull world, and terrible story.. at first you have a chance to skip the story in NG+, and at first the new lines of dialogue is fresh.. but it leads nowhere. will i be able to find my old companions in this new world? nah. its a novelty.

the combat is nothing to shout home about, though its not the worst. its very much fallout 4 on steroids, a lil bit smoother than FO4, and a lil more fluent. the choice of weapons have an abundance of choices to choose from, to suit your gameplay style. although their melee system is horribly bad and out dated, with no improvements from their previous games at all.

the sidequest is where this game shines, and unfortunately so, as if your side content over shadows your main.. something is wrong.. however, the side content very much out shined the main story, and engages you in quests that very much feel quality wise, 10 folds better than the 7th grade written main plots. i will keep this part short, as i dont want to spoil anything. but get arrested, that quest is one of theee best, regardless on where you choose to branch.

summary: this game couldve been a genre defining GOTY exclusive, but has ultimately been laid flat, with the countless words being sprung out of petes mouth, that ultimately mis communicated somewhere along the way of what to expect with this game. is this game bad? no.. depends. if youre looking for an immersive flight exploration game, AVOID THIS. if you're looking for fallout in space without much ship exploration manually done.. and you can bare loading screen after loading screen, then this is for you. ive played over 50 hours to form this opinion, and it just aint what we were told it would be. too much promises, and very little delivery, its a beautiful game, and one of the smoother BGS's experiences to date, however with a uninspiring main story, and tedious exploration system that makes starfield fall flat on its face. once youve finished the game once, after 50 hours i feel very little urge to jump back on, instead im going back to star citizen and elite dangerous.. i hope with updates, mods, and the expansion, alot of these issues are resolved. but rn, id say wait for a sale.

    Exploration:
Another point is the exploration. The game has many loading screens that break immersion. Exploring the planets can be annoying because you have to walk long distances in some places since there are no vehicles you can use.
    Story:
I can't speak much about the story because I've only completed a few missions. From what little I've seen of the story, I have loved it.
    Side Quests:
I've been playing more side quests than the main story, and I've loved them. There are typical missions like delivering a package or killing a target with little story, but there are other side quests that have a much better-developed story and can be longer than the game's main story.

Enemies are bullet sponges; be prepared to spend a lot of ammunition if your weapon doesn't do much damage.
The artificial intelligence of NPCs and enemies is quite "dumb."
    You can encounter several bugs.
    Too many loading screens.

Starfield Review - A Disappointing Space Odyssey
Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios' long-awaited space RPG, has finally hit the shelves. Unfortunately, this galactic adventure has left much to be desired, earning a lackluster 6 out of 10.
    The Bad:
    1. Endless Loading Screens: Starfield is plagued by excessively frequent loading screens that disrupt the flow of the game. The frequent interruptions detract from the overall experience.
    2. No Seamless Travel: Despite the vastness of its universe, Starfield fails to deliver seamless travel between planets and space stations. Instead, players are forced to endure more loading screens when traveling between celestial bodies, making the game feel disjointed.
    3. Buggy Mess: Bethesda's reputation for releasing buggy games remains intact with Starfield. The game is riddled with technical issues, ranging from game-breaking bugs to bizarre graphical glitches. These problems are inexcusable for a studio of Bethesda's caliber.
    4. Encumbrance System: Starfield's encumbrance system is frustrating and punitive, making inventory management a chore. It stifles exploration and detracts from the enjoyment of the game.
    5. Missing Maps: Starfield lacks comprehensive maps for its various planets and locations, leaving players feeling lost and disoriented in its sprawling universe. This absence of navigational aids hampers the overall experience.
    6. Missing Vehicles: While the game's universe offers the potential for exciting vehicle-based exploration, Starfield falls short in delivering a variety of vehicles for players to enjoy. This lack of diversity in transportation options limits the sense of adventure.
    The Mediocre:
    1. Ambitious Universe: Starfield's universe is indeed vast and visually impressive. However, it's ultimately a beautiful but hollow shell, lacking the depth and interactivity that would truly make it shine.
    2. Immersive Worldbuilding: While the game's lore and worldbuilding are extensive, they don't make up for the lackluster storytelling and underdeveloped characters. The potential for a rich narrative is squandered in favor of a generic space opera.
    3. Spaceflight Mechanics: While spaceflight controls are serviceable, they lack the depth and challenge that would have made them truly engaging.
    4. Repetitive Side Content: Starfield's side activities quickly become monotonous, offering little in the way of variety or excitement. The universe may be vast, but it often feels empty and devoid of meaningful content.
In summary, Starfield is a game that promised to be an epic space adventure but falls disappointingly short. The loading screens, lack of seamless travel, and numerous technical issues hinder what could have been an immersive experience. Coupled with a frustrating encumbrance system, missing maps, and a lack of diverse vehicles, Starfield's flaws far outweigh its few redeeming qualities. It's a missed opportunity, and one can't help but feel that Bethesda could have done better. Maybe future patches will fix these problems and make the game, what it should have been to begin with.

I even had it pre-ordered until I saw the demo and Bethesda explain what kind of game they were making, so I canceled and would wait for it to go on sale or Gamepass. Luckily Microsoft's business model is geared towards its subscription service, so I got this game day 1 for a month at $17, and honestly it's not a bad deal considering how disappointing the game was. I've anyways enjoyed Bethesda games in the past, with wide vistas, an interactive world with deep lore and winding stories with a few narrative choices for the player, and a leveling system that helped build all the immersion. With Starfield you certainly get the wide open maps, a heavy amount of world building and lore, but everything else feels watered down. There's no improvement to the formula with this game, it really does feel like a 4k rework of Fallout 4 with a space themed expansion. Conversation chains are redundant beyond story interaction where you choose to talk, buy, or fight out of a situation. Besides the distracting and aged face modeling and reactions, you can upset an NPC so that they 'won't talk to you again' and then just start the conversation over and try a different choice path. Interaction with the world is limited to picking up things, hitting buttons, or talking to people (besides combat). For instance: in Fallout 4 you could find a dozen computers to hack or read through to piece together a mystery through pages of context and access secret areas all in a single dungeon. In Starfield you can wander an entire city finding a few consoles to interact with that look like menus out of a PS2 era RPG, with context delivered in a few sentences. That's kind of the game in a nutshell: you get a fraction of the effort spread over an exponentially larger and emptier world. Space exploration is little more than resource hunting and developing, as there is an outpost management game that's a grown up version of what's in Fallout 4, and instead of building a power suit, now you can build ships! But the ship building isn't very in depth right now without Bethesda stripping it's mod community for content thanks to its very anti-player user agreement. The space battles are fine and the only real new thing in the game, but they're mostly forgettable considering anything else in the market like Rebel Galaxy or Elite Dangerous. The lack of depth in ship development and modification also makes most space battles not only straight forward, but really repetitive, almost a copy and paste of the ground combat. Ground combat is next to awful. Gunplay is fine, feels like a smoothed out version of Fallout 4, but controls are still clunky at times. Despite the variety of weapons adding some spice to combat, it's generally ruined by the awful AI that moves at random or not at all, acting more often as spongy sitting ducks that occasionally shoot back and glue themselves to cover.

The game looks great and there's plenty to look at, so I've found some fun there and in some of the side quests, but like everything else in the game it's all skin deep. Exposing a corrupt politician at the end of a storyline only to have him there in his office weeks later in game and talk to you like it was the first time meeting and nothing has happened... you see it constantly and it just shatters the illusion. Bethesda tried building a giant lake instead of a deep and interesting pool, but it's only a few feet deep at parts, and often it feels like a puddle.

I'm glad I tried it on Gamepass because it's not terrible, I'm having some fun with it, but it is a massive letdown. I might try to finish the main story and hope it doesn't play out exactly like it seems, but I'm not holding my breath and I'll eventually get bored with this and leave it for good. There's just not enough here at the core of the game to come back to, so even a better story with actual characters wouldn't hide the bland undercoat here.

If u don’t follow the main story u are lost in this game. Everything that doesn't have relation with that is **** exploration, combat, interaction with npc, bad AI, lots of menus, bad combat in ship, bugs, glitches and performance. Otherwise the main story is good.

    -Synchro labiales inexistantes
    -Animation faciale horrible
    -Répétitivité de tout
    -IA catastrophique
-Beaucoup de pompage sur no man sky

Though the game is entertaining, it definitely doesn't live up to all the hype its been getting. There's tons of loading screens, the space travel in ship just feels like an interactive loading screen, character model faces look very outdated & theres still alot of bugs/glitches to workout. Maybe in a couple years the modding community will be able to fix it.

    • The performance is terrible. Even playing with an 11th generation i7 and a RTX 3070 and on the SSD (it's not from China), on medium settings the game runs between 40/60fps, and in urban areas it drops to 25. You can improve this with mods, but you lose quality. • Weak AI, stupid enemies that become damage

    • Inventory hard to use, with a lot of time spent on loot, you have to use another mod to make it more intuitive.
    • Lack of map in the cities, creating frustrating navigation and forced memorization of locations.
    • Problematic ship navigation with many loadings and infinite fast travels, you have to remember where you've been.
    • Bugged and horrible NPCs, a trademark of Bethesda titles.

The whole gameplay is a mix of very good moments with very bad ones, and you get the feeling that you are playing something unfinished, it will be another title from Bethesda that the community will have to fix

    - Too much is not something good: Too many things to take care of, give me the impression that things were thrown in there just so the game can be "huge".
    - Grinding: Crafting is awful - Spend 10 hours to get some skill points > Skill Up > Gather materials to research > Go research > Gather materials to craft > Get +1 bullet in your gun. This is just awful
    - NPC: Their faces... No expression, no nothing. Reminds me of the "My face is tired" incident in Mass Effect Andromeda
    - Repetitive: Activities and MISC mission in particular are boring and repetitive and gives you almost nothing. Planets, systems, starts - just a joke, copy paste assets just to give the sentiment of exploring a whole multiverse. Go to the stairs up and down > Take the elevator > wait for loading screen

A Promising Odyssey Marred by Technical Hurdles

Starfield for Xbox Series X brings an epic space adventure to life, with a captivating story, rich details, and immersive world interaction. The universe crafted in this game is nothing short of breathtaking, promising hours of exploration and intrigue.

The narrative is a standout feature, weaving a compelling tale that keeps players engaged from start to finish. The attention to detail in the game world is commendable, creating an environment that feels both vast and lived-in. Every nook and cranny holds a secret, waiting to be discovered.

However, the experience is dampened by the frustratingly long loading times, sometimes stretching to a tedious 10 seconds. This occasional lag disrupts the flow of the game, pulling players out of the immersive world.

Regrettably, technical issues prove to be the Achilles' heel of Starfield. The game is plagued by an abundance of bugs that mar the gameplay experience. A particularly severe bug forced me to restart the game after investing 50 hours, as a main questline became irreversibly glitched. This hiccup was only the tip of the iceberg, as subsequent missions were also riddled with bugs, rendering them impossible to complete. Sound issues added to the frustration, occasionally necessitating a full Xbox reboot.

Furthermore, sporadic crashes proved to be a recurring issue. The game's instability became a constant source of concern, interrupting what should have been an otherwise immersive experience.

In spite of its lofty ambitions, Starfield's technical shortcomings hold it back from greatness. With some much-needed patches and updates, this game has the potential to ascend to the stars it so ambitiously aims for. For now, it remains a journey marked by equal parts wonder and frustration.

Really disappointed with this.. wanted to like it so bad but the exploration is awful with completely barron worlds that contain basically one lifeform/animal and invisible walls everywhere. If you expecting skyrim or fallout in space you will be hugely disappointed with this. It fails massively in comparison with mass effect or even the outer world in my opinion.

It was 2006 when I first turned on Oblivion, hadn't had an Xbox long and I remember venturing out of the sewer to be greeted with a feeling of being truly overwhelmed. What a game that was for the time.

I am yet to experience this with Starfield - premise is good, flying around the infinite universe, righting wrongs or maybe causing a few wrongs yourself. Yet I don't feel free. I feel bound by the menu's and repetitive cut scenes.

The storyline is a little underwhelming, characters are very wooden and the locations feel very small and very repetitive.

You essentially travel around violently murdering very similar enemies in settings that look very similar from one another, looting very similar items that encumber you but instead of having to sell your inventory to keep yourself afloat financially you get paid ridiculously high amounts for very simple missions so now I don't really loot anyone except high ranking mission bosses for the odd rare weapon or item.

The characters you interact with have no personality, this game is a 17+ but you'd think you were sitting through a Sunday morning church service - I have not heard one profanity or met any real characters with any menace or intimidation.

The levelling up system seems to be a complete waste of time, as soon as I found a decent gun I was able to destroy enemies far higher in level than me, so now there is no feeling of vulnerability.

You can choose to have a high ability of persuasion to help with conversations but honestly you are better off with going down the straight up violence route to get to your goals so it feels completely useless.

Jumping into a new system or planet I am yet to have any real random events, I haven't been part of any real space battles or anything on a grand scale that makes me think wow WTF is going on? This game just gives the impression of Fallout 4 in space and planets may as well be jpegs in the distance. Every dock, landing, jump etc is all cutscenes and you can fast travel everywhere which frustratingly is a lot easier once you realise you can press the A button on your destination to access the travel screen.

Combat is acceptable except the AI seems very dated, some enemies just randomly get up and flee, some enemies literally bring a knife to a gun fight and charge headlong into a hail of bullets. I have not been overly challenged with the gunplay and have found all encounters to be very similar.

I am only 10 hours or so into the game, I will happily write a review again when I have put some serious time into this game, it is keeping me going but right off the bat - this isn't Bethesda's best game. A lot of reviewers have given the developer credit for trying to make something of such a grand scale but ultimately through repetition alone it will have a shelf life.

its the constant jumping from load screens that underwhelm me along with it being stuck on 30fps which I was quite surprised to learn.

A couple of bugs so far was stuck in a character conversation but the game continued and a stuck loading screen both resulting in reloads but the game saves often so this doesn't result in lost time.

Space combat is quite good, I found myself quite enjoying it once I got to grips with the controls and is a good change from the monotony of the gunfights.

Ultimately this game has a lot going on but doesn't do any of it exceedingly well leaving you feeling a little disappointed.

That being said RPG's that the people want cannot be made as we do not have the technology yet to create what Starfield wants to be.

I was hoping for a game that mixes Halo, Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Otherworld's and Oblivion but sadly we have an ok game that is splitting opinions, that is entirely fair.

Graphic mods sure it can be upgrade but the feeling sticks with you.
    2. Space is empty and so does the planets in Starfield. It's repetitive, feedex, loading screen etc not something I enjoyed the most. Less, more dense and diverse planets would be much more fun to play. Walking and walking, scanning, gathering materials is simply boring.
    3. Perk wall is the next thing, everything you can do in the game is behind perk wall so don't be suprised if you have to abandon mission because you don't have needed perk.
    4. There is no need for spaceship, you teleport from one place to another through loading screens and if there was no spaceship in the game I wouldn't even care. And it's behind perk wall aswell.
    5. The game for me is a bit souless and lacking of immersion. AI is mediocre at most with some exceptions of guns fights which sometimes are actually very good, guns are responsive and feels great and I think is the best part of the game.
    6. Main story is in my opinion boring. Years of development, basically unlimited budget and that's the main story?

So to my overall rating of 6/10 it is mediocre game with couple of good moments. If this was a PS4 game or Xbox One it would be 9/10 or goty but it's not it supposed to be next gen. I feel that this game came really to late. As I said the first thing that hits me is the outdated feel and looks of the game. It's not how AAA game from big studio with big money should look and feel like. Waiting for heavy mods and DLC as big as that in Witcher 3

Even the empty planets can be quite immersive just walking around reaching places and watching out for miles into a lonely desolate world, and can be a nice change. A game that where you decide to go and do one thing or reach a area but end up doing many other things as there's so many things that can distract you like: reading random books, site seeing, watching NPC, finding notes, enjoying the environment, upgrading, listening in on NPC, experimenting, discovering secrets, building ships, mining, discovering quests, experiencing random events, messing around with physics...etc..etc. The graphics at times can really impress and with detail, even when not at its best this game still looks great for most part. The games feels smooth and is great to have a 3rd perspective view. The action is good and very functional and dies the job well enough without all the OTT flashy action modern games seem to do and without QTE and Scripted events - it's more back to basics but in a very good way! This is not No Man's Sky, they are different games with only Space being the common theme. For Starfield is Mass Effect meets Skyrim but with its own features, that you experience as you further get into the game. A quality game that brings adventure, RPG, exploration, different styles of approach, action, story, quests this branch out, customisation, and other things and also considering the freedom, random events and scale of this game...it delivers a very enjoyable and immersive game that will give players different experiences each time you play - a game that can and will probably still be played 10yrs(+) from now as updates, mods, dlc will start to appear just like on classics Skyrim, Fallout games. Starfield was sold by Bethesda as a synthesis of Red Dead Redemption 2 and No Man’s Sky, but delivered a Fallout in Space all instantiated, anachronistic, without freedom, with invisible walls and exaggerated steroids, style a Skyrim with hundreds of random mods. Had it been sold only as a new DLC to Fallout for $30 USD, the disappointment would have been less, as it is a good game on average down from Bethesda. Yes, the engine lacks optimization, a negative surprise for the promise offered. The worst is the poor imagination story and badly told by horrible NPCs and robotics in a 50’s Pulp science fiction environment with a thousand voids, truncated mechanics, nonsense dialogues and decontextualized menus. Anyway, it lacked an affection of Devs style Baldur’s Gate 3 to make a general and professional finish. As they said, Starfield had two previous references to overcome (RDR2 and NMS), but finished well below them, it’s just a second-class space shooter. Either way, there’s no more way for Bethesda to fix, invest more, optimize the engine, fill it with new and interesting content, improve menus and offer more creative DLCs. Time has passed, Starfield is already part of the gallery that devalues the gaming industry along with Cyberpunk 2077 and Forspoken. The scam to sell GamePass worked.” Expand

This is game is disappoing when you just played BG3.
I played all previous Bethesda games... and this one is to close to the previous ones, and as such seems to be 10 years old
Big empty places where you spend hours walking to do very low-interest tasks Quests are fetch-and come back based for more parts Combats are like hitting bick sacks of HP until you get a better gun Inventory

Inventory space management takes 20% of your total gameplay time... and the impact on your walking speed and O2 consumption doesn't bring any gameplay interest

so yes, from time to time you discover a very nice place, or a quest that has more interest... but so much waiting between two interesting times.

Being released a few weeks after BG3 which is the complete opposite hits hard. Very hard.

It's an okay game, 5 or 6 years ago it would have been considered an amazing game, but unfortunately, the game feels outdated and bland.
It really suffers from being another Bethesda game with the same formula and gameplay as always, with no innovation whatsoever anywhere to be found.

I am removing points for: AI -1, copy paste -1, false advertisement -1, micro transactions -0 (thanks god not there). Graphics is good, sounds not bad, story ok, exploration could be better but it’s ok, game feels not bad.
To studio: post bg3 I am expecting more. you have on a market games like star citizen and no man’s sky, you can use them as example how space exploration should work. No one is expecting you to deliver unlimited number of planets but cut scenes for land and start, limited exploration area….
My advice: don’t false advertise, do what you are good in, if game will be good and fair, gamers will forgive you many imperfections, don’t overpay your managers.

This game shows the developer simply does not have the ability to innovate.
The outdated engine simply cannot support an ambitious game like this.
    A totally broken game.
MS can recruit as many as paid reviewer here to give a 9 or 10, it will not change the fact that it is a broken game. It is real rad in 2023 we get to see a broken game like this from a well established studio.

It's just odd to why as Bethesda just paste it just on a different planet little odd to say. The graphics are authentic and vastly impressive from the same engine of FO4 but classic Bethesda npcs look disgusting. Gameplay is what shines here definitely enjoyable and responsive no issues for me. Story..eh well it's not bad nor a great it's serviceable. Starfield isn't a bad game but Starfield feels like No Man Sky and Star Citizen in certain formula..those games exceeded the exploration well Starfield did not. But Starfield can be fun but the content seems bare to me to which feel disappointing. And I respect the game for what it is my score is a 5 for bare content, lack of exploring and reused structures within the different planets. But the game is enjoyable at least. Expand

It’s fun, but it’s also a Bethesda game, so it’s broken. I came across a bug that has halted my progress and I’m not sure I wanna go all the way back and start the mission over. I might eventually, but for now, it’s hard to justify wasting my time with a busted game. A 5 is being generous because I did have fun for the 12 hours before that happened.

After a few hours in the game i have to sadly give this a thumbs down, even if I enjoy what someone called the "Bethesda's formula", there are just too many defects and downgrades to give this a pass.

-Lots to do but It feels like they spread the content all over the "universe" , and this works against the game because the sense of immersion is destroyed by the constant need of fast travelling. In comparison "The Outer Worlds" made a much smarter choice by focusing on a specific star system.

    - The "procedural" content is confusing , leaves you constantly wonder if something matters or it's just generated on the fly.

    - The graphics is ok when it comes to architecture but looks terribly outdated when it comes to natural items and vegetation, F76 in comparison looked way better.

    - NPCs look repetitive and very dated compared to other recent games - and interactions feel very scripted.

    - Gore and finishers are completely missing, a downgrade from other Bethesda games.

    - Weapon modding was also downgraded from Fallout 4 and 76.

    - No way to scrap objects to harvest parts and materials, another inexplicable down
    grade.

    - The "space" part feels more like a mini game rather than something that brings it all together as it should have been. You find yourself floating around and unable to really go anywhere. It was also said that the space travelling would have had a sense of danger but in the end product it's as safe as taking an elevator.

    - I can't speak much of the main story as I left it aside for now and chose to explore around instead, but frankly this is probably because I found it so forced and cliche that I didn't feel a sense of urgency to push forward with it.

Overall this game does give you a little "fix" of a Bethesda RPG but it's not the generational game that was promised, by far.

It is true that you'll find a good number of barren wastelands with little to do other than extracting some resources and take off to more interesting places, but again it really depends on how you want to play. There's so much to do, so many systems and abilities to explore, missions to complete, spaceships to loot, and species to catalogue, that I honestly don't think there's anybody who thinks that exploring every square meter of this universe is the better way to enjoy Starfield.

While it has weak spots and doesn’t push many boundaries, Starfield is still an excellent RPG experience. Bethesda has once again mastered the things it built its reputation on – world building, quest design, and deep customization. However, it’s found new things to excel at too, with exciting combat and a novel implementation of New Game Plus.
