Midnight Suns is possibly the best Marvel superhero game thanks to the great work of Firaxis, who reinvents its formula of success and presents us with an ambitious title with a great turn-based combat system based on cards and skills.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a game that you expect quality, and it delivers. When you aren’t crafting and battling with your deck of hero cards there is a deep story to progress and a world to explore. Not only does the exploration feel rewarding but so does the relationships you will be building with your fellow heroes. The best part is these relationships are optional if you are in it just for the card-based battling system, however I implore everyone to give that half of the game a shot. The missions you will be going on are where the game shines the most though. Gathering your favorite heroes and building their decks to work off of each other to pull awesome combos and KO as many enemies in one turn as you can is just so much fun. Very rewarding feeling when you win. Very little in terms of negatives and Marvel’s Midnight Suns is definitely in my game of the year conversations!

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a both a refreshing, lighthearted take on Firaxis Games’ XCOM formula as well as a shining example of how to faithfully adapt Marvel properties to new game genres that sit outside of the typical action-adventure wheelhouse, propped up by great writing, dialogue, and stellar voice-acting befitting the source material.

Despite presentation that leaves something to be desired, Marvel’s Midnight Suns packs a ton of interesting strategy into its adventure, and smart writing around the edges helps to offset a main story that feels quite generic. Midnight Suns might be a flawed game in some ways, but I also couldn’t put it down, and it’s the rare game that made me truly want to run around collecting everything. Anyone who loves strategy games or Marvel should absolutely check it out.

Marvel's Midnight Suns is a strangely complex game to explain. It’s equal parts isometric turn-based RPG, social simulator, and deck-building card game. But you know what? It actually works! Sure, it’s not as tense and as gripping as Firaxis’ XCOM series, but this is a nice action-oriented offshoot.

Marvel's Midnight Suns has fantastic card-based combat, something it shares in common with Marvel Snap, along with excellent social features and deeply fascinating Marvel lore. It can engross you for dozens of hours with brilliantly layered, unique gameplay featuring just enough variety to make each battle run differently. But this doesn't mask its fatal flaws, namely some game-breaking bugs that'll prevent you from finishing a game with a clearly established ending.

As a marvel fan this felt like playing a marvel movie’s story with a perfect balance of zany superheroes and quips and a more serious and deep story between the characters as you get closer to them. My one warning is you can’t walk into this game believing its the next ultimate alliance because it really isn’t UA, it has it’s own deal as a sort of Xcom like tactics game and is more meant for people who either want to experience a new marvel story or simply enjoy a tricky sort of tactics game. The more I play, the more clever things unlock, and the deeper the game becomes. Writing seems very faithful to source material, and the variety of things to do and combat mechanics are impressive. Exploration could be better, the game crashed once or twice, and certain things can be repetitive, but to me, they're just nitpicks compared to what's offered. Expand

It's not perfect, but I think the core game is good and you can spend a lot of time playing it which to me is money well spent.

As a TCG player and fan of turn based rpg's like final fantasy, I really enjoy the combat of this game. It's sort of a multifaceted strategy game with marvel characters and lore which is fun. The combat also lets you play at your own pace with no real time limit so it's a low stress game.

I also like that in addition to the strategy aspect of the combat, outside of combat the game functions like an rpg where you're collecting materials, leveling up characters, improving equipment, learning new abilities, building reputations, etc. I'm haven't played long enough to get a sense for the speed of progression but so far I don't feel I'm going to have to grind to progress comfortably through the story.

My main issues with the game are more ancillary. I think the dialog is a bit cheesy and cliche at times. There are some moments where it tries to be cheeky and funny but the jokes fall flat. So overall the dialog and acting is a bit less than convincing, but it's hard to stack up to what we are used to with the MCU, and for me I this stuff doesn't take away from my ability to enjoy the game.

Another issue I have is with the pacing between combat, and non-combat things. The combat is what makes this game unique and fun. But I find myself many times longing for when I can get on with the next encounter. I also find it interesting that so far, most of the "missions" are single encounters, though I have a feeling that's going to change a bit more as I progress. So it feels more like an rpg character builder, with a strategy game thrown in, than the other way around. Some of this is also I believe because in the beginning of the game, there are for more narrative based things to acclimate you to the games plot, and how things work. Once you get through the introduction stuff, it will probably speed up as you have a lot more free reign to do what you you want. If you want to just do a bunch of missions in a row you can do that instead of exploring the abby.

Finally, I think the customization feel expensive and unfulfilling. I don't know where devs are getting this idea that gamers want to customize their house or room, or whatever. If I wanted to do that, I'd go play sims. What's the motivation for doing harder difficulties when essentially my only reward for doing so is table, picture frame, or t-shirt. I'm literally sitting on credits for this stuff because I just could care less about it.

So for me this games combines to genres that I really like, sot of like what destiny did for mmorpgs and FPS games. If instead you are looking for a fast past action combat game like avengers was, then this is not it. If your're looking for strategy driven turn based game, like a card or table top game, then you'll really enjoy this game.

It contains all the mechanics I like in such a game and mainly what lacked in other productions like Gears Tactics or Triangle Strategy : the possibility to train your characters as you wish between two main missions and that changes everything. Besides, the whole system is well thought, graphics are just ok, the story is very Marvel-like. There are many things to do between fights, the cons being that once you finish you are just given to rush through the story which is rather short given the thickness of the gameplay. A must play for any strategy amateur. Expand

Worst graphics I have seen in a very long time and the game is so boring but, on the bright side the micro transactions are not expensive
