I'm about 8hrs in an so far really like the concept of this game and see a lot of potential in it. It's not perfect, but I think the core game is good and you can spend a lot of time playing it which to me is money well spent.

As a TCG player and fan of turn based rpg's like final fantasy, I really enjoy the combat of this game. It's sort of a multifaceted strategy game with marvel characters and lore which is fun. The combat also lets you play at your own pace with no real time limit so it's a low stress game.

I also like that in addition to the strategy aspect of the combat, outside of combat the game functions like an rpg where you're collecting materials, leveling up characters, improving equipment, learning new abilities, building reputations, etc. I'm haven't played long enough to get a sense for the speed of progression but so far I don't feel I'm going to have to grind to progress comfortably through the story.

My main issues with the game are more ancillary. I think the dialog is a bit cheesy and cliche at times. There are some moments where it tries to be cheeky and funny but the jokes fall flat. So overall the dialog and acting is a bit less than convincing, but it's hard to stack up to what we are used to with the MCU, and for me I this stuff doesn't take away from my ability to enjoy the game.

Another issue I have is with the pacing between combat, and non-combat things. The combat is what makes this game unique and fun. But I find myself many times longing for when I can get on with the next encounter. I also find it interesting that so far, most of the "missions" are single encounters, though I have a feeling that's going to change a bit more as I progress. So it feels more like an rpg character builder, with a strategy game thrown in, than the other way around. Some of this is also I believe because in the beginning of the game, there are for more narrative based things to acclimate you to the games plot, and how things work. Once you get through the introduction stuff, it will probably speed up as you have a lot more free reign to do what you you want. If you want to just do a bunch of missions in a row you can do that instead of exploring the abby.

Finally, I think the customization feel expensive and unfulfilling. I don't know where devs are getting this idea that gamers want to customize their house or room, or whatever. If I wanted to do that, I'd go play sims. What's the motivation for doing harder difficulties when essentially my only reward for doing so is table, picture frame, or t-shirt. I'm literally sitting on credits for this stuff because I just could care less about it.

So for me this games combines to genres that I really like, sot of like what destiny did for mmorpgs and FPS games. If instead you are looking for a fast past action combat game like avengers was, then this is not it. If your're looking for strategy driven turn based game, like a card or table top game, then you'll really enjoy this game.

One of the best strategy games I have ever played and my surprise game of the year. Firaxis has breathed new life into the strategy genre by using cards, positioning, and environments in a new way. I love this game.

Really enjoying this game. Wasn't expecting to like the card system, but I quickly grew to love it. Would I have preferred a more XCOM approach? sure, but what we have here does not suffer too greatly, as long as you don't fixate on XCOM. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and am counting the days until the final DLC is released. There's a bit of a learning curve, but the game walks you through it pretty well, while offering ways to get more info about how to play cards and what certain things mean. Besides card combat there's lots to do at your home base, including interacting with well known Marvel characters, unlocking locations, uncovering more of the story and lore, and customizing your character. The DLC characters [so far] add more story and fun interactions. I actually laughed out load more than once at stuff relating to Deadpool. The only criticisms I have is that the character models seemed very simple, almost like some textures didn't load. Other stuff in the game looks good, so I assume it was a design choice to make them almost cartooney, so that it mimics a comic book, or something. Also, some of the "younger" midnight suns character's personalities can get a little annoying. But maybe that writing was on purpose. Despite that it was a lot of fun and if they make a sequel, it will be a must-buy. Expand

I really think this game is a bit underrated. While I'm not a typically card game guy myself, but I found the combat system to be deep and highly engrossing. Figuring out who to upgrade cards and use them together was really rewarding. Some of the dialogue was a bit tedious in spots, to me it felt onpar with a good Saturday morning cartoon. The tactical combat is surprisingly rich. Combat cards are specific to each hero's superpowers. There are also terrain effects. Not only are there attack cards, but there are buff and debuff cards, etc. This combat mechanic will be different enough to be interesting for those (like me) who are used to the typical grid-based tactical battles.

There aren't as many tactical RPGs on Xbox as on PC, let alone AAA production value story-rich tactical RPGS, so for me this game fills that gap sweetly.

In terms of Marvel games, it stands as high as Spiderman for me, given you like the turn based strategy genre. Besides, the whole system is well thought, graphics are just ok, the story is very Marvel-like. There are many things to do between fights, the cons being that once you finish you are just given to rush through the story which is rather short given the thickness of the gameplay. A must play for any strategy amateur. Expand

I feel like i have spent MORE TIME doing the above, than the actual gameplay. The gameplay is interesting, turn-by-turn, reminds me of a mix of FREEDOM FORCE (2002) and MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE (2006). With the added randomness of CARDS, like SLAY THE SPIRE. Get ready for some confusion... you can SELECT which hero you want to use, but at the same time, you can only PLAY the cards you got, so for example, you select "Blade"... but can only play "Dr Strange" cards or "Captain Marvel" cards. You can also move the "cursor" over the battlefield, which means one thing for the hero selected, or could mean another thing depending on the card selected.

Last comment, the protagonist is not that interesting. Girl with amnesia, wearing chainmail with sword. Wooden voice. UGH. I wish they would have picked the asian witch girl "Nico Minoru". Much more interesting. They had the talent right there with Lyrica Okano.

I think Marvel adapted the name "Midnight Suns" from an old comic line called the "Midnight Sons". Check out the wikipedia page.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a game that will demand your time and attention, its not a quick experience but it is just that, an experience one that is nicely balanced in its fantastic story and above average action for a perfect melding of what makes superheroes so cool to being with.

Despite presentation that leaves something to be desired, Marvel’s Midnight Suns packs a ton of interesting strategy into its adventure, and smart writing around the edges helps to offset a main story that feels quite generic. Midnight Suns might be a flawed game in some ways, but I also couldn’t put it down, and it’s the rare game that made me truly want to run around collecting everything. Anyone who loves strategy games or Marvel should absolutely check it out.

Midnight Suns is possibly the best Marvel superhero game thanks to the great work of Firaxis, who reinvents its formula of success and presents us with an ambitious title with a great turn-based combat system based on cards and skills.
