Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a must-have experience that defies the doubters and makes those who had hoped now believe.
-
Jun 6, 2016Featuring excellent gameplay, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is presented as an outstanding product that is only tempered by some poor sidequests. An excellent design of Glass and a decent story complete the offer.
-
Jun 6, 2016The running and gameplay of Catalyst are top notch, and the game definitely benefits from the new locales. There are some minor graphical issues that kind of add up over time, but overall, this game has been worth waiting for.
-
Jun 6, 2016Yes, it has some padding in its optional missions, some of which just aren't very fun, but when you are free to just run with nothing else on your mind, Mirror's Edge Catalyst reminds you why you fell in love with the concept in the first game, and illuminates why so many people have revered this series for so long.
-
Jun 2, 2016It was so hard to acclimate to the changes and suffocating AAA mentality after the original was near perfect, but I think once people get over that initial shock, they'll come to adore it in spite of that.

Pelit (Finland)Sep 28, 2016Boring or irritating characters and ho-hum story, but the parkour action works. [Aug 2016]
-
Official Xbox Magazine UKJul 14, 2016Crap combat aside, this great open-world game finally builds on Mirror's Edge's potential. [Aug 2016, p.73]
-
Jun 27, 2016For fans of the original, Mirrors Edge Catalyst offers a nostalgic return to a modern dystopian world, with massive improvements in gameplay mechanics. The franchise's fast-paced, fluid movement returns, combined with an immersive and engaging narrative. For gamers who aren't familiar with the first game, Mirror's Edge Catalyst's flaws are many, failing to obscure its biggest missteps.
-
Jun 22, 2016While the story is nothing to write home about, the core gameplay of Mirror's Edge Catalyst is its biggest strength.
-
Jun 21, 2016Despite clunky combat and an unremarkable story Mirror's Edge Catalyst star still shines thanks to excellent community features.
-
Jun 15, 2016Despite its flaws, Catalyst is a worthy concept of the game, and the improvement from the last one to this shows that it can mature into a quality game franchise, beyond its concept. The sense of scale and the way the world has been designed for travel makes for a fantastic experience.
-
Jun 9, 2016Games often reach for this kind of digital dopamine hit of course, and many succeed, but the reason Mirror’s Edge is so good at it is due to developer DICE’s knack of having you inhabit the body of your avatar so fully.
-
Jun 6, 2016It is clearly a passion project for the team at DICE, and it finally feels like it lives up to its ambitious design. There is little like it out there, which makes it easy to recommend, but also it is not a game for everyone. It is never overly challenging, combat is simply not fun, and there is little variety to the mission design. Still, I couldn’t stop playing it until the credits rolled, and again there is simply nothing else like it currently on the new consoles.
-
Jun 6, 2016Instead, I imagine most players will happily bounce from side mission to delivery to grid node and back again, content to do what Mirror's Edge has always been best at: constantly moving forward and up. And once you can focus on that, Mirror's Edge Catalyst is a flawed, but often great breath of something different and exciting in an open-world landscape full of the same old thing.
-
Jun 6, 2016Not a bad game, but certainly not a perfect one. Mirror's Edge Catalyst is fun while you move and fight at full speed, but when not, it's not that great. The city is huge and full of activities, but the campaign is dull and ends abruptly.
-
Jun 6, 2016DICE has made this game for and because of all the Mirror's Edge fans, but, even being a good game, sadly the transition to the open world and a few weak points (story, combat, AI) leave this sequel a step behind the original.
-
Jun 6, 2016When allowed composure, Mirror's Edge Catalyst becomes the colossal free running daydream that never seemed tenable. When pushed into conflict, either with its own systems or the demand of "content" in 2016, Mirror's Edge feels anxious and frenzied. Separating wondrous substance from obliged distractions isn't a distinction the game is capable of making, leaving gratification to the will of the player.
-
Jul 13, 2016Instead of just porting over the original with a few pieces of polish, DICE made sure to try to address every single aspect in Mirror's Edge Catalyst, from the plot changes to the upgrade system, and the heavy amount of attention given to balancing the fairly fluid gameplay with realistic and enjoyable controls.
-
Jun 16, 2016Though it may not appeal to all players, those looking for something a bit different will enjoy one more go-round in Faith's shoes.
-
Jun 7, 2016It’s not the sequel I expected, but it’s the one we deserve.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst can surely appeal to the hardcore fans of the original game, but a crappy AI, an automated skill tree (what's the point?) and a lame Frostbite Engine made us loose Faith in the game.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst isn’t a bad game and certainly better than the sum of its parts. The open world design weakens everything that made the original great, unfortunately, yet the ability to set your own time trials and run tough premade courses saves the day. It’s a solid game as far as playing the story missions are concerned, but like Faith herself it can sometimes fail to find its legs elsewhere.
-
Jul 25, 2016Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is an admirable attempt to make a niche concept work. Unfortunately, it so intently focuses on avoiding the pitfalls of the previous game that it stumbles into a hole of its own.
-
Jun 12, 2016With all the hype of last years news that this game was being made, I was sadly disappointed in how it turned out in the end.
-
Jun 12, 2016This system works perfectly (and thematically) when you’re simply out to get past and away – a wall kick here, a shoulder-drop there, and on we go over the next railing without looking back. But too often, the campaign missions insist on dropping Faith into open areas filled with enemies and saying “Here, clear these guys out”.
-
Jun 12, 2016The first Mirror’s Edge was a surprising risk with interesting gameplay that developed a niche audience, and its follow-up tries, mostly successfully, to recapture that same effect. There are stumbles with its open world, combat, and narrative, but Faith's freerunning world persists. Chasing after every red zipline, railing, and air duct is still fun eight years on.
-
Jun 6, 2016An improvement in every way over the original, Catalyst is a solid offering that fills a major gap in EA’s portfolio, considering that the major publisher isn’t necessarily known for its open-world games. Bringing an IP back from the dead is always a risky proposition, but Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a good example of how to mitigate that risk with an enjoyable title that succeeds in more ways than it fails.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a gorgeous game that nails the free-running experience that fans want, but lacks an interesting narrative, compelling combat, and a fast travel system that will likely leave many fans disappointed.
-
Jun 6, 2016Catalyst would be an easier recommend even with the clunky controls if it had been sold cheaper, perhaps as episodic content. As it stands, this is mostly for fans, and even then, I caution the inevitable frustration that will surely come from running through a city literally made of glass.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst's unique take on first person parkour is something that no other game or series manages to deliver. Due to this, even when it stumbles, it's easy to look past its faults, simply because it's so damn unique and novel.
-
Jun 6, 2016I was consistently wowed by the movement and everything that comes with it, so while it's a disappointing action game, it works wonderfully as a platformer, puzzler, and racing game. And for that reason, I can't wait to keep playing.
-
Jun 7, 2016Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is a good first person parkour game, provided you keep your momentum going. Chaining move after move while running across rooftops feels very satisfying, but putting the brakes on to fight or pick up collectibles grinds the fun to a halt. An okay storyline keeps you running, but ultimately, graphics that are above-average at best, and an open world that is essentially corridors stitched together means Mirror’s Edge Catalyst falls short of what we really want out of this franchise.
-
Jun 6, 2016The staples of Mirror’s Edge remain refreshing and unique in the first-person genre in 2016, but Catalyst’s attempts to keep up with the open-world Joneses don’t always jive with its design strengths of movement and momentum. On top of that, muddy-looking console versions and a lame story filled with unlikable characters doom Mirror’s Edge’s return to fall short.
-
Jun 12, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst fails in being the grand series return fans were hoping for, mainly due to a boring and frustrating combat system, a forgettable story and a lifeless city. What's left is a charismatic main character, great buildings architecture, a good traversal system and the hope for a more inspired and entertaining sequel.
-
Jun 23, 2016Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a curious beast. It’s more accessible and enjoyable than Mirror’s Edge, but alarmingly, there’s nothing spectacular nor overly memorable about it. Prettiness aside, it’s still short, has a sparse plot and doesn’t get you excited through its gameplay. It’s fun in spurts, but now I’m finished with the main plot and most of the character-driven side-missions, there’s no desire to go back for more.
-
Jun 7, 2016Though the game is fine as a mediocre playable experience, many of the things that made the original so special have been neutered beyond repair.
-
Jul 15, 2016Catalyst has some wonderful ideas and there are times where it’ll make you feel truly free, but it fails to maintain its momentum for more than a few minutes at time.
-
Jun 20, 2016As you’ve probably already gathered, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is quite a disappointment, although that’s not to say that it can’t be highly enjoyable at times.
-
Jun 12, 2016I wanted to get behind Faith and the story, but it seems that the game world oppression of the big corp that runs the city has permanently leaked into the personalities of the characters.
-
Jun 8, 2016I’d still argue that Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst is a failure, but it’s an interesting failure. It started from an idea that nobody’s been able to make work, and it still didn’t make it work, but an attempt was made. I’ll take that over a game that’s simply mediocre any day of the week.
-
Jun 8, 2016Though there are many parts of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst that fail, when it manages to fire on all cylinders, the game works quite well. However, those moments are separated by dull stretches, frustrating bits that detract from the game’s greatest assets in order to focus on fighting and story conflicts, neither of which I cared about. I’ve dreamed about the many possibilities a next-gen, open-world Mirror’s Edge title could bring since Catalyst was announced back in 2015, but I never thought the end result would be so limiting.
-
Jun 6, 2016I want to love Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, but the best I can manage is to appreciate its aspirations and intentions.
-
Jun 6, 2016While Catalyst keeps up the great first-person parkour action of the first game, the awkward smashing of its parts into the ubiquitous, open-world model hasn't done Mirror's Edge any favors. The overall aesthetic and sense of momentum still have their charms, but it's disappointing to see EA Dice take such a safe, predictable approach with what once felt like a boldly unique property.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge Catalyst is definitely efficient when it comes to free running and how it feels good to be Faith in a beautiful and vast city full of challenges. But its story, A.I. and some other details are really bringing it down.
-
Jun 6, 2016Mirror's Edge: Catalyst rarely, if ever, makes as memorable an impression as its predecessor did. While it tries incredibly hard to do so, and succeeds in terms of world building and story development, it's all at the sake of nearly every other facet that players of the original may have held near and dear.
-
Jun 12, 2016As a long-time fan of the original Mirror’s Edge, I was happy to hear about a new game in the series, but I should have been prepared for the worst. To be fair, I may be exaggerating. Catalyst may not be a terrible game to most people. In fact, it’s a totally playable, completely okay, thoroughly mediocre title.

Jun 6, 2016There is definitely fun to be had simply running through Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’s beautiful cityscape like some sort of all-knowing speedster god. It’s all the stuff that surrounds that simple, joyful running that ranges anywhere from annoying to downright frustrating. In the end, combining a game about running as fast as possible with one about exploring a vast open world ends up being a pretty awkward pairing.
-
Jun 8, 2016It feels like I stepped through a time warp and am reviewing the original Mirror’s Edge again. It recreates the original game’s strengths—and, more importantly, its fundamental errors—as if no time had passed.
