There is definitely fun to be had simply running through Mirror’s Edge Catalyst’s beautiful cityscape like some sort of all-knowing speedster god. It’s all the stuff that surrounds that simple, joyful running that ranges anywhere from annoying to downright frustrating. In the end, combining a game about running as fast as possible with one about exploring a vast open world ends up being a pretty awkward pairing.

It feels like I stepped through a time warp and am reviewing the original Mirror’s Edge again. It recreates the original game’s strengths—and, more importantly, its fundamental errors—as if no time had passed.

MEC delivers what it promised: it's an enjoyable free roaming action game running at a decent framerate, in a generation where most developersMEC delivers what it promised: it's an enjoyable free roaming action game running at a decent framerate, in a generation where most developers are, sadly, taking screen res. over performance.
Even when performance is everything in a action game.

It's nice to see they brought back some of the main story elements that made the original rather original.
Some tech issues exist (like these annoying light-effect and shadows pop-ups) but I'm sure they're easily fixable.

Game mechanics are the best part of the package and you'll certainly get compelled taking the next mission for another dose of first person running. This is what made first game special, and it's even better here.

Narrative is segmented and gags sometimes, but so does most open-world games with a main campaign in it. Many side missions are less than appealing for new players (while real ME rats would surely try to complete them all).
I don't like collectibles but this game features a bunch for those with a love for time spending activities.

Guess I'm with most of critics pros this time: this game deserves a 7.5 - 8.0. But I'm pushing it to a 9 because I'm a huge fan of the original ME and of Faith, specially now the she's quite the looker. :)

Who likes moving in an open world and can dispense with a long epic story and a huge amount of side quests will absorb this game in every way and will have lots of fun with it. Full Review »
