    I brought this game at launch and am a big fan of COD games, However saying that this game reminds me to much of MW2 to justify the £42 I paid. You can pick the 1st two games up for less than £14.
    The story is action packed with great set pieces (which COD has always done well) the Spec ops give the game added replay value.     After paying yet another £40 for the SAME game I won't be buying another. Modern Warfare 3 should be thought of as Modern Warfare 2.5. It is exactly the same game re-packed, yet CoD fans are happy to keep handing over the money. With all the money that these games make you would think they would actually use some to improve the game (for example, improving their engine). ThisAfter paying yet another £40 for the SAME game I won't be buying another. Modern Warfare 3 should be thought of as Modern Warfare 2.5. It is exactly the same game re-packed, yet CoD fans are happy to keep handing over the money. With all the money that these games make you would think they would actually use some to improve the game (for example, improving their engine). This game is completely deprived of any innovation. Games should be about pushing the boundaries of technology and attempting new things, instead they simply stick to the same formula and recycle the same game, yet get more millions and awards every time. Its games like Skyrim in which developers like Bethesda try and push the limits, increase innovation and thrive to not only simply tweak things but completely overhaul their engine, put their profits into making something new, more immersion and deep in order to create these stunning environments which capture the player and feel like an entirely new game. Though CoD isn't an RPG it could take some pointers from a company like Bethesda in order to not keep providing the same game but come out of the 'safe' zone and try to make something better/new. I think if this franchise keeps going like this it will meet the end of its product cycle. I for one will not be getting another, I already have one and some spare copies. At least its a good feeling knowing if Modern Warfare 2 breaks I have another copy of it (Modern Warfare 3).

    Bare in mind this review is only to make a point, I am sure much hard work goes into the campaign side of things (story, acting, etc) but my review focuses on the lack of 'new' features and innovation which equate to it feeling disappointing.    … Expand

    This game seriously brings nothing new to the table for Call of Duty, it's almost as if it's an expansion from MW2. At least the transition from Modern warfare to MW2 had new innovation but, when you look at the transition from MW2 to MW3 you see nothing new. Don't get me wrong, CoD is a solid shooter but, being a sequel and looking at the overall game you're paying 60 dollars for, itThis game seriously brings nothing new to the table for Call of Duty, it's almost as if it's an expansion from MW2. The Graphics are poor being the second sequel, the game play is dull and repetitive, the story is so cliche and feels like you could see whats coming from a mile away. They haven't fixed any of the problems that were apparent in the last two games and I feel like they never will. This game is no 9.5 (ign) and it sure as hell isn't an 8-7-6 either. This game at the most is a 5, but it deserves a 0 for the lack of an attempt to make a good game. What made Halo's multiplayer so good? Innovation, how about you take a look at your rival Bungie for once IW/Sledge', you might make a great game like you did with CoD4.… Expand

    These games have just been CODMW1 rehashes ever since.
    Still using the same 1999 Quake 3 engine with just modifications.
    Time to move on. Remake the game, get a real engine.
    They all play the same, look the same. Everything about every COD now are the same. Sadly the only good ones were COD:2 MW1.

    If you want the same single player, the same multiplayer, the same extra modes and the same engine as what was available 3 years before, and $40 cheaper, by this game, but if not, be sane and by a different game like battlefield 3 for a fps, or big rigs for a racing game

I cant believe i payed 100 bucks for this **** Its on sale ill get rid of it for anything. the campaign wasnt even worth it shorter then usual. man can they just stop making these. either way just my opionion there are alot better games to play like skyrim and revelations plus new counter strike coming out.

    Utter **** Feels like an arcade game from the 80s. No tactics. No strategy. No intelligent gameplay whatsoever. Feels like its been designed for 5 year olds. What an enormous disappointment to months of waiting.

    Might of helped to keep those original Infinity Ward devs....

    This game should have been called Recycled Warfare 3, or Copy Pasta 3. Campaign of this game is copy paste buildings of COD4. Multiplayer is a copy paste of COD4+MW2. Spawns are ridiculous, and Spec Ops isnt even fun. The HUD, weapons and sounds are copy paste of MW2. If you want to copy paste your money on this ridiculous game, go for it. I was stunned by the lack of change done by the producers: no graphics changes, multiplayer is still crap, and the campaign is too freakin' predictable. Multiplayer is still at it's worst with more **** and five-year-olds to annoy the living soul out of you.     Worst. Game. Ever. I cannot stress enough as to how the lag and satanic spawn system is detrimental to the multiplayer experience. You shoot someone first and in the process, unload a whole clip on him (to no effect) yet he shoots you once and you are taken to the enemy killcam. You respawn and 1.76 seconds later, you are ambushed. Don't get me started on the camper-friendly maps; theyWorst. Game. Ever. It's like they took Modern Warfare 2's horrendous multiplayer, and combined it with the worst aspects of Black Ops' multiplayer, Poor hit detection registry, unbalanced guns, poorly designed maps, quickscoping being supported, and to top of this bullsh*t sundae, a spawning system so bad it puts Modern Warfare 2's spawn system to shame. You can LITERALLY spawn right next to an enemy, walk two steps and die immediately ( this happened to me three times in a row. No **** the weapon leveling system is frustrating, and you don't have the same degree of customization that Black Ops' had. The new survival mode is simply an attempt to emulate Halo's firefight, or Gears or War's horde mode, and got boring almost immediately. It's indescribably easy, and nothing really interesting about it.

    It also goes without saying that the graphics are outdated, and the sounds are awful. All in all, stay as FAR away from this travesty of a game as possible.    … Expand

It didn't come. After several frustrating nights I have pretty much stopped playing MW3 and have soley played battlefield 3. MW 3 is so tight that pretty much everybody camps with silenced sub guns. There is very little room for even the most polished sniper and every dark corner seems to have someone with tube sitting in it.     MW3 is literally a copy of MW2. It's like they barely put any effort into it. I loved MW1, enjoyed MW2, and loved Black Ops. I mean Black Ops was really well done and I thought it was fantastic. MW3 on the other hand really disappoints. The graphics are awful for one, especially in the weapon and class selection lists. The weapon models are atrocious.     Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was a huge disappointment. The short campaign and carbon-copy multiplayer added nothing to the FPS genre, instead only existing to milk the CoD cash-cow. Huge waste of $60.

    It should not be possible but the graphics are actually worse than mw1 & 2. The campaign is not cohesive, compelling, exciting, or fun as the prior games in the series were. Multiplayer is the same old blah, run and gun, same thing over and over and over and over. It just didn't grab me like the past games. This round goes to BF3 in my opinion, far more to do, see, shoot and fun to be had.

    This game is a joke, the all new Spec Ops, is just a plagiarize of the resident evil mercenaries mode on 4 & 5 and all the aspects of multiplayer from sounds, effects, emblems, titles,graphics and 90% of weapons and perks are identical to mw2. This whole new proficiency features is just a rip off of a feature which has been in the battefield franchise for years, returning ASAP >_

    This game is not what I have expected. Modern Warfare 3 is just a copy and paste version of Modern Warfare 2, and it should be named as Modern Warfare 2.5 or Modern Warfare 2: Episode 2 with the graphics, gameplay, and innovation being the same. Moreover, it has ONLY a few minor improvements in this game, making MW3 only like a small update from MW2. Viva la Skyrim!

    My roommate bought this game the day it came out. I was disgusted by how much Activision does not not care about the consumer, but instead is only focused on the money they can make with mw. The number one comment I heard from people coming into our room was, "Is there a new map pack for mw2, I havent played this map!" (copy+paste)+change enough to satisfy children = mw3

These changes would have been easy to include and really don't push the envelope very far into the land of "fixing what ain't broke". This latest effort from Activision and Infinity Ward shows laziness and greed. They made a far inferior game (super-tight maps with ridiculously frenetic pacing / outdated HALO type game play / boring leveling system) and play it off like the best thing ever. We are suckers for buying this stuff. With the resources they had, they really could have moved the bar up...instead they just ignored the bar altogether...or maybe, the developers are still hanging out at the bar, I don't know. What about all the mods and cheats they allow...how is your game this hackable guys? Really poor effort, really poor. This gets my vote for worst game of the year..the most frustrating back shooting experience, but it sure is pretty to look at.… Expand

    Okay let me make myself clear first, I loved cod 4 and mw2, and i even liked WaW and Black Ops for a while, but this "game" is the worst piece of dog turd to ever come into contact with the gaming world. Activision has disgraced themselves once again by taking one of the greatest franchises of all time and completely destroying it just so they can make a few million dollars.     THisis the worst game I've ever played. Call of Duty stopped being fun after the fourth. I also love how they've never tried to improve their old, crusty engine that does not preform up to the specs of any game in this catagory.

The MP is the same normal shooter you would expect from the COD series, yet this one has a darker color scheme. My problem with is is hackers or boosters and Sledgehammer or Activision doesnt do squat to fix it. The hit detection is generous, spawn killing is rampant and boosting is just as frivolent. I get more frustrated playing the MP on MW3 then any other game. For example, having Assassin Pro on the enemy shouldnt see your name or their reticle should not turn red. Well guess that doesnt work cause croutched in the shadows with a silenced weapon and Assassins pro perk on they were able to long shot me from across the map with a Assault rifle. The big question is how can they possibly see you if you cant see yourself on their kill cam??? Well I spent time in forums and boards you can find exploits for the radar and aimbots online already which really ruins the MP experience. Seriously, take the time to "google" hacks or exploits for MW3 you wills ee videos and a bunch of stuff which helps people cheat and boost. Activision should get their crap together, if you want a decent multiplayer game go play Gears of War 3 or go back to Black Ops its not as frustrating as this garbage......    … Expand

    Honestly, I'm glad I won this for $5 in a raffle... it's horrible. I used to be a fan of CoD, since CoD 3, and I loved CoD4 and MW2, even WaW, although Black Ops sucked horribly. And now this. I thought IW would be able to turn out another great game, but NOOOO, this is possibly the worst thing i've ever paid for...

    well i dont know what kind of fun they are talking about. cod games always play the same, every map ppl will do the same thing they always do, why? because there arent many options, u can easily predict what will happen each time, where the snipers are, where the campers re, and where the rushers will go.

    as for innovation, there is none, it the same game....the.SAME.GAME! so activision, pelase get ur priorities in order and stop dishing out the same game every single year. make something new perhaps try CHANGING THE ANCIENT ENGINE YOU'VE BEEN USING FOREVER, and try adding some physics to the game. why i like bf3 over this is because each game crazy stuff happens due to all the possibilities that are given. you never get the same experience.

The game doesn't deserve a 0, but I'm giving it a 0 for a number of different reasons. 1) The franchise deserves better and trying to pass this off on the loyal fans just to dupe them out of their money is sad. 2) The fact that Glen Schofield tweeted to the fans to come on here and give it a 10 to counter balance the bad reviews is really sad. 3)The fact that it broke sales records not for it's quality, but on name alone is the saddest thing of all.     If you're comparing it to the other Modern Warfare titles, it sucks. The graphics have somehow gotten WORSE since Modern Warfare 2. They made the maps bigger...which is a fail because Call of Duty is all about fast paced action, and there's nothing fast pace about trying to find enemies. None of the maps even seem well thought out...most of them are random buildings, cars and pipes randomly thrown all over the place. The game is just a mess. This is my last Call of Duty game and I'm strongly considering selling this game. I thought Black Ops sucked, but honestly, it was better than this game.

This means either the Development team at IW either had their head so far up their asses that they didn't know that Treyarch changed this system, or they are stubborn and had to have it their way which now is a huge step backwards. Also last stand kills were changed to the old annoying system where you miss out on the kill if you don't shoot the person while they are on last stand. IW needs to get with the times and make these changes or they are going to loose fan base and ruin the COD name. Many of the broken aspects of MW3 aren't even fixable via updates now. The maps in MW3 are much inferior to BO. There are no good vantage points, no interesting indoor combat, and no sense of a battlefront on the map anywhere. Spawning has to do a lot with this as well, but the maps need to be well laid out for the spawning to work properly. The only thoughtful addition to this game is the Support Strike Package. Which I think offers a good alternative to people who are less serious about the game and like for their kills to tally despite a death. This addition is a good idea, but its a feeble attempt at trying to cater to these types of players. MW games are becoming too run and gun and too fast. Many people are impatient with this game, and COD is loosing a lot of players due to the anxiety attack this game can give players. Between the small maps, offensively close proximity spawning, and "quickscoping", people are dropping their controllers in favour of TV programs and movies. The speed and spawning of this game is actually offensive to me as a FPS lover. Its like IW wasn't sure that their new game was going to be good so they simply made the spawning closer together and the maps even smaller so you could get even more kills. What they didn't realize is that their insecurity actually killed the fun and creativity of the game. Its like IW thinks that us consumers are so retarded and so ADD that we can;t stand to have one second of gameplay where we aren't shooting at someone. When I play this game all I find myself doing is yelling "**** off" at my television. What i mean when I say that is I don't want to see an enemy on the map every half second, I don't want enemies spawning right on my ass constantly, and that despite what IW thinks I actually have the patience to move to a battlefront or take 10 steps before I have to defend against another damn submachine gun. Thanks for being retards IW and ruining what could have been a great creative game. If you treat your customers like retards, they will eventually stop giving you their money. They don't even care about cleaning Xbox360 leaderboards from all the hackers. Quite possibly the last CoD from IW/SH I will buy.

A lot. As a big Call of Duty fan, I can say I'm effectively disappointed beyond words. Do yourself a favor and trade this in for Battlefield 3 - the far superior FPS - and tell all of your friends to not buy it. Me personally, I didn't like campaign at all. It seemed to be made for children with severe ADHD because it's filled with constant explosions, unnecessary violence and you become desensitized to the whole experience quickly. I shot down 6 helicopters in the first half hour of playing the campaign, and because of that it's really hard to feel any speck of sympathy when something unfortunate happens to one of the main characters who you've followed since MW1. But that's not the only thing wrong with the campaign, the enemies still don't know how to cover properly, the friendly's who are supposed to help you don't do much other than get in the way of your firing line and the story doesn't make any sense what so ever so you'll be playing for the sake of playing it. Also they've implemented the ideas which I loathed so much from Black ops, like the slow motion scenes which ruined the pace and is just an unnecessary playable cut scene and a desperate attempt to make the campaign longer. Now next up is the graphics. If you played the first modern warfare, compared it to modern warfare 3, you won't be able to notice any real significant changes. It's 2012 soon and looking at games like Battlefield 3, skyrim, or even gears of war 3, you'll see what you're missing out on, and console limitations is no excuse. Now for the multiplayer. Multiplayer has more or less the same basic concepts as the previous games including the same problems as before but they've changed the whole idea of killstreaks. It's now called "Strike Packages". And you get a choice of 3. Assault is the standard, get as many kills without dying to get rewarded we're all used to. Support is get as many kills as you can before the game ends without your kill count being reset to 0 when you die. And specialist is the same as assault but you unlock perks as your rewards. Now if you play multiplayer for an hour you'll realise how unbalanced the multiplayer now is. You can forget about specialist as you'll always feel left out when everyone else is calling in a heavily armed robot or predator missiles and getting a bunch of kills in one go. Sniping is still as poor as the previous games due to the maps being small, tight and the same altitude you have to resort to quickscoping. You can't "quickscope" in real life, so you shouldn't be forced to quickscope in a military game when you're not used to it. Forget about hardscoping you'll never get a kill that way because you'll always be too close to the enemy and dead before you can even fire the second shot. But that isn't the only problem. Spawn killing is still as bad as it was, the maps are insanely small and tight leaving you to lone wolf, meaning playing with friends impossible because you'll have no choice but to separate and go your own way anyway. Also, if you didn't buy this game on day 1, forget about multiplayer because too many people have found the blind spots for camping in every map and you'll be put in the same games as players who've prestige'd 4 times over by now. I don't know about you but getting killed over and over by barely taking 4 steps forward after respawning isn't my definition of fun.
    Now if you're looking for new original "killstreaks", you'll be disappointed. Most of the rewards are copied from previous games. For example the "advanced UAV" is just a nerfed version of the blackbird from Black ops. I thought this was supposed to be set in the near future? Why does a game set during the Vietnam war have a more powerful killstreak than the "advanced UAV" here? It's just poor and unimaginative, and you can tell they're running out of ideas.

    All in all, I'm not impressed at all. I agree with many people that this game should have been modern warfare 2. If you never played a COD game before, I'd say this is probably worth your time. But if you own black ops or MW2, or even MW1 look elsewhere. This is just a low budget scheme by Activision to milk the name as much as they can.    … Expand

I then left the game and I was looking for another game. I found a game and I noticed a guy magically headshotting my team. I then realized the game is horrible. When I left the game, I noticed something. I saw CoD Elite. Paying more for a game? WTF?!? Anyway, this game is horrible. It is MW2.5. Not MW3. When I see Modern Warfare 3 I see what should be the sequel to Modern Warfare 1 and 2, not looking at it as a stand alone game but a continuation. My only guess is that a critic can review it highly as if it were a game of any other title, yet users stand firm in their belief that something is definitely not right . In the multiplayer game mode, veterans of MW will notice many similarities, but some basic game play tweaks that bring very odd changes to the modern warfare world. When crouched in every other game players can move silently to make stealth kills, adding a bit of strategy to what otherwise devolves into a mindless firefight. MW3, for whatever reason, had very audible movement sound no different than running when the player went prone or crouching when I played. A small change, but the first of many that most experienced fans of the series will notice. Weapons feel familiar but where every other game made them feel unique, I only felt slight differences between many of them in terms of how they handle and shoot. The look of the weapons seemed to take precedence over balance and polish. Not many may notice such a change, buy a lot of fans of MW series can automatically tell something is wrong. Some weapons are even unusable for the purpose that they were intended, a few of the side arms in particular. Almost everything about playing the game seems to indicate that flash and flair, along with some advertising for firearms manufacturers, was the primary focus. This is the only way I can justify a side arm being pulled up to fire, but instead being treated to a 2 second animation of the already loaded weapon getting the magazine put back in. The small time frame of being vulnerable may seem petty to some, but a quick draw is the main reason for having such a side arm. After dying more times than I can count during the pretty magazine flair, I had to learn two things: to never use that particular gun again, and that 2 seconds in a fast paced FPS means a lot more than you might think. The single player campaign fairs better than the multiplayer, but still suffers from the rest. The many user reviews of the story feeling stale or uninspired do not lie, and many of the 'twists and surprises' of the story feel predictable and some even come off as cheap. Where previous titles may change the player from different persona to another on occasion, MW3 feels like it uses this character swap as a plot point, changing characters in such a way that it seemed entirely unjustified or even boring at times. It became hard to care about some of the cast after a while, part of the player thinking they'll just swap to another persona after a few minutes and will never see them again anyway. This among other plot turns made it difficult for myself and others to really get into the story the same way we did with MW2 and the first Modern Warfare in particular. The game itself is not terrible, but then again I am not a professional critic. The game as a sequel is very off putting, and old time fans of modern warfare will notice very obvious and strange changes, ones that make the gamer question their methods and thought process when making the game. I can only attribute the subtle tone of change to the fact that the studio Infinity Ward (IW) lost a good chunk of their senior staff when there was a falling out between Activision and then heads of IW, leading to two original founders of IW to be fired. Shortly after, a handful of senior employees and friends of the two followed in their footsteps which has led to a void in the company that has yet to be filled nor may ever be. These all feel like lessons well learned during the development of the first two games in the series (excluding all of the other CoD games, in which similar lessons must also have come up) and I can only imagine they are surfacing now due to the dramatic change in development and production the series has been put through. I would like to say that IW having a lot of their original staff moving on didn't change the quality of the franchise any, but I would be lying if I did. As a stand alone game of a different title, perhaps the user score would better match the critics. But as a sequel to a beloved series, the game fails all the loyal fans who came to expect a certain polish and refinement that Modern Warfare became known for.     To all the people saying you should have expected the same. Why? Why should we expect the same for what is supposedly a whole new game, which costs in Australia $100. Same multiplayer, Same graphics, Same Engine, with a few different perks, guns and a new campaign this game only just qualifies as an expansion pack in my opinion and definitely not one worth $100.     Not impressed at all! No thought or Balance in Slightest, the map layouts are terrible along with the Graphics I thought the game was supposed to get better every year instead its went backwards, Competitive Call of Duty gamer since Cod 4 and I feel badly ripped off and betrayed and disgusted by activision/infinity ward. MW3 has been a real let down!! and I will be trading it in like many others.

    all i can say is this game is a friggen joke. no improvement from modern warfare 2. mw2 had a pretty solid gameplay but with some minor flaws but most games are like that. but this is just fricken ridiculous. mw3 is probably the worst possible i have ever owned due to the fact that the graphics have no improvement for starters even though i dont care about graphics and also 95% animationsall i can say is this game is a friggen joke. no improvement from modern warfare 2. mw2 had a pretty solid gameplay but with some minor flaws but most games are like that. but this is just fricken ridiculous. mw3 is probably the worst possible i have ever owned due to the fact that the graphics have no improvement for starters even though i dont care about graphics and also 95% animations are reused from mw2 along with mechanics, no new game modes other than kill confirmed which seems they had a horrible attempt of annexing something similiar to crysis 2 multiplayer. not many new weapons to look into. no effort whatsoever in creating stats for the weapons since all of the launchers except for 1 or 2 have the same exact stats. the barret 50. cal and as50 have the same stats. the L118(which by the way was a total rip off of black ops) and the msr have the stats. and the dragonuv and rsass have the same exact stats. the only positive thing i can say about this game is the campaign. i was glad to be able to finish the campaign although it wasnt as great as expected. there was almost no effort put into this god awful game and only hardcore diehard cod fans should even consider getting.… Expand

    Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

    I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
