Same old same old. If you played MW2, you've already played MW3. A new coat of paint, and you have yourself the exact same game. Just like bad music, it sold like crazy. Doesn't mean it's good. Sick of the same product year after year.

A MW2 map pack, not worth the price of admission. Don't shell out the money to buy this game, and don't support the company that releases it. If I could rate this a negative score, like a -59.99 I would, because you might as well be throwing your cash down the drain.

You may be asking why am i giving this game a zero, and the reason is that MW3 is not even a real game. It's still the same game from the continuous reboots of the same old same thing. Call of duty devs if you are reading this get your act together and start innovating, stop milking your fan base.

To all the retards that have been giving this game a 10. It is a shooter. No shooters especially a copy and paste one should get higher than an 8. Fallout 3 is what a shooter should be.

MW3 is just mindless shooting and running for people new to games. No innovation. 0/10 for lack of anything good.

The physics feel cheap and flimsy, as the guns do not actually recoil realistically and animations look unnaturally robotic. Being able to go full auto at someone with a machine gun while having the reticule barely budge makes the gunplay feel unrealistic and cheap. Sound effects are equally messy; gunfire sounds more like a fruitblender than anything else. Firing the weapons has no weight behind them due to the muffled, unrealistic sound effects and the robotic physics, giving little to no satisfaction in landing hits. At 60 bucks, IW is robbing us of our money. This is almost the same game, with the same engine, the same graphics, and same gameplay as the previous two. I feel like there is an immense lack of effort and dedication put in by the design team; in its third iteration, i expect a game to at the very least have technological improvements over its predecessors. But even there I am disappointed. I find it hilarious that the Glen Schofield has the balls to ask for higher user ratings on Metacritic after pumping out this product on so much hype. So here I am, voicing my opinion to spite him when I otherwise would have stayed silent. Do yourself a favor and go play skyrim or something Expand

Modern Warfare 3 was the first COD game that I have played where I felt ripped off. It's a true copy/paste job with nothing that gives it it's own personality. I fear, going forward this is what COD games will become - mindless, boring, copy/paste games from inept developers.

Say what you want about Vince Zapella, Jason West, and the 40+ other Infinity Ward employees who left IW for Repsawn entertainment - but their creativity was sorely missed from Modern Warfare 3 - and it was clearly evident that those 40+ former IW employees are what made the Modern Warfare games fun.

Looking at the critics score it is so simply obvious that craptivision bribed almost everyone of them. Don't support a game with ZERO innovation and the most out dated graphics for a modern game. Story is so cliche and predictable and PLEASE we are all sick of the Russians plot. Many glitches and clunky shooting with old maps 'copy and pasted' just destroys this game. DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED.

Quality versus Quantity truly will shine...How long did activision think they would get away with making cut and paste games. Activision needs to realize that lining your pockets with money doesnt necessarily equal success. Black Ops had the same problem which should have been called Call of Duty: Classic Warfare 60's.

What a letdown. A zero is warranted for this game only because of how similar it is to a game made 2 years ago. The COD series is headed down the same path as sports games who add only a few minor features to their games so that they can keep some ideas for next year. This game should be DLC...not an entirely new piece of software.

The gameplay has been stagnant for these 4 years as well. The Single player campaign is a laughable 3 hours long and consists of a story that resembles something a 4th grader would write up during study hall. There are areas where it tries to be original (the plane scene, I use the term scene because the entire game is more equivalent to a Michael Bay movie) but it fails to be interesting in the gameplay. I mean, we did this in 2007, what the hell have they done since that makes it any more engaging? Cinematic? Cool, but if I wanted cinematics I'd watch a movie or a heap of game trailers for a fraction of the price.

Now - multiplayer. The level 'design' is piss weak which has obviously only been designed for a 360 controller, which isn't bad, but anyone that is half decent with one will find it boring after an hour or two. You can get away with just running around aiming only on a horizontal axis.

This is a joke. IW are a joke. It seems only Treyarch can create a semi-decent COD now, and even then...

What gets me the most is that this is what sells. Judging by the user score, it might not be the case next year, unless the developers pull their #*(@!ing fingers out.

Welp, I've spent the majority of late last night and today playing MW3, so I figured I'd post a review.

Let me start off by saying I got a lot of grief from friends who told me my comments on MW3 are non-valid until I've played the game. Well, I played it, and upon reflecting on that experience from a non-objective, unbiased point of view, I have come to the conclusion that all of my previous predictions of the game were true, with few exceptions.

I began by playing the campaign, and what fun it was. This new development team did a better job at tying up the loose ends from the jumbled mess that was MW2's plot that I thought, and it was quite a fun ride. The levels were varied and expansive, characters were well fleshed out, and the experience was what I'd expect from a COD game. That being said, another bland shooter, delivering just another bland Michael Bay style blockbuster, with shallow characters, over the top story, basically a jingly toy with shiny lights to keep us amused for 5 or 6 hours. It doesn't investigate the complexity human morality like Batman Arkham City does with population control, crime, or the moral implications of justice. It doesn't delve into a story of survival, with the main character's desperately fighting for humanity while uncover secrets of the history of the universe as Halo does. The only challenge presented to players is how many bullets are shot at you and how many bullets it takes to kill someone, unlike Half-Life 2 and its physics puzzles. Nor does MW3 give players any variety in how to play, if you fail at stealth you automatically die, unlike Splinter Cell, which gives you a multitude of choices on how to proceed through the levels. The game is just too simple.

Now onto multiplayer. New killsteaks, new toys, new perks, new guns, new maps. Same gameplay, same experience as Black Ops, MW2, MW1, just more polish and new toys. Its fun as hell, thats right, you heard me, I loved playing it. But I can have the exact same fun and the exact same experience on any of the other COD titles I have. I knew this going into the game, and I figured I'd try this new system out, and I just can't distinguish the gameplay from any of the others.

Overall, the game feels like its a five year old game that could have been an Xbox release title. The graphics are sub par compared to every other recent shooter, there's hardly any physics aside from glass bottles and cardboard boxes that get shot around (every thing that happens is scripted, not random, so its not physics), even the external gun models look like they came out of Counter-Strike 1.6. I can't find the article, but I read an interview with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick about the future and he said that someday COD games will have movie/film like quality, with more realistic character and facial animations, etc. He's right, eventually COD will catch up with Crysis 2, Battlefield 3, the Mass Effect series, Arma 2, etc.

A I'd also like to note a few nitpicky things that surprised me. Characters say "Roger Wilco" a lot. You never say "Roger" with "Wilco," the "Roger" is implied. Its just as bad as saying "Over and Out." You just don't do it. The charging handle on the ACR is ambidextrous, so why does the player character reload with his left hand, then take his right hand off the pistol grip to charge the weapon? Also, why charge the weapon at all? The M4, ACR, G36 and many more have bolt locking mechanisms, so theres no need to pull back the charging handle. I was actually surprised at this, even Battlefield 3 has the player model grips the foregrip with the "magpul technique," or uses the support hand to reach under an AK and charge it without removing his primary hand from the pistol grip, as they should.

In conclusion, its just another COD game on a five year old engine, brings nothing new or innovating to the genre, and is nothing more than an update to COD4.

I'm sorry if you blew $60 on this game, because you could've just rented it for $2 at a redbox for the campaign and continued to play Black Ops for the same multiplayer experience.

Lets assume COD4-7 never existed, I'd give MW3 a solid 7 for being original, and a joyful experience.
If MW3 was only $20 and the other games do exist, I'd give it an 8 for being a worthy expansion pack.
But, because its just another MW update, it gets a 2.
Fun, but not worth the money, especially if you have any of the past three games in the series.

This is basically the same game as MW2, it feels the same exact way, nothing new other than a few features that were added, which I don't see how they couldn't have been made into a DLC package. Do not waste your money on this game, it is not worth $60, $30-40 at it's lowest I would say it's worth. This does not feel like blackops though, it just seems that they edited the MW2 engine more.

Yet another Call of Duty that is essentially just another re-skin of the same formula that's kept fanboys coming back time and again. Don't spend your $60 on what could just as easily pass for MW2 DLC with more stats.

Why pay $60 for the same thing every year it's just like Madden. People are just like sheep. It's time to move on to something else with more innovation. Call of Duty Elite is a copy of Halo Waypoint and Waypoint is free for all features. CoD is lacking because they know you will buy it just because it's called Modern Warfare.

I played it last night, couldn't tell the difference between it and modern warfare 2. Why they don't make a new engine is beyond me. Your money would be better spent on games like Skyrim, uncharted 3, Arkham city or Deus Ex Human revolution.

COD4 was such a great game and yet I find myself feeling that the franchise completely became stale after that. Since it made so much money, Activision had to have it come out every year as usual. Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero are both dead because they made so much money the first or second time around and just became so stale they lost sales. This probably wont happen with MW3 but it really should. Everything from building models to textures, weapons and even sounds have been recycled for the latest entry of COD which as an aspiring game designer very much depresses me. Developing games needs to be efficient but this is downright lazy, but since the developers have their balls in vice by Activision they dont really have a choice. I even remember seeing an article about sledgehammer saying "MW3 is not just a cut and paste game" well if you have to say that, it probably is. There are even youtube videos proving this point. Another questionable statement I remember hearing was "We're hear to develop games, not engines" in response to the announcement of DICE's all new Frostbite 2 engine, which is much better looking and brings destruction to the table instead of just being able to shoot through walls. Look at the first MW compared to MW3, not much of a difference in graphics, gameplay or the audience that plays it (foul mouth teenagers and even younger children). If you look at BF2 compared to BF3 there is a complete over haul of the graphics, gameplay and now an even bigger audience. I dont wish to be seen as a fanboy for BF3, but rather I am just stating facts of what I have witnessed and played as well as what I have learned from going to school for Game Design. Despite all these flaws and shortcuts, MW3 will sell millions of copies and no doubt there will be another COD next year. Hopefully the general public will start to see how stale this series has become over the years, but there's no guarantee. Activision will continue to push out COD every year until it stops making money plain and simple. And it is a shame that the founders of Infinity Ward were "escorted from the premises" after a legal dispute between them and Activision. Ironically enough, they joined EA and formed Respawn Entertainment, and I for one can't wait to see what they will come up with next. MW3 brings nothing truly new to the FPS genre and therefore deserves a low score. Either wait a few years and truly develop something new for COD, or create a new franchise! This is becoming an annoying routine to see the general gaming public play out every year... Expand

Call of Duty is a prime example of one of the franchises that rely on its previous titles for sales. With the most recent release of Modern Warfare 3 being a title that is equivalent to a large DLC package. To add on to this, Activision has already announced a new Call of Duty title release for 2012, in which I will be very surprised to see any type of innovation included. Call of Duty made its major break into the gaming world with the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. This is the first time the franchise underwent major changes, which in turn brought major changes into many shooters that are seen today. Now it seems that each consecutive Call of Duty title is simply giving us rehashed content, with the exception of Modern Warfare 2, which should be considered a legitimate sequel.

After this franchise went mainstream and captured a large fan base it decided to simply feed repetitively off of these fans. If you were to put up a screenshot of Modern Warfare 3 beside one of Modern Warfare 2, most people could not tell the difference. The developers of this game even decided to directly import a building from Call of Duty 4 into Modern Warfare 3, you can take a look at the video in the section to the left. This game simply added a few new weapon attachments, some new maps, changed the game modes a little, and slapped a new title over the front of the case. This is the perfect example of how certain game franchises are ruining innovation in the industry. The only thing that the Call of Duty franchise has changed since the release of Modern Warfare 2 is its marketing campaign, which is the real reason the title is still so popular.

This game is nothing but a rehash! The guys who made call of duty 4 and modern warfare 2 were fired! The infinty ward you speak of is a new team of devs under the same name all they did was take The orginal infinty ward formula and cashed in on it thats why I dont like them, Treyarch also cashed in on their formula too. Awesome Framerate, character design, great interface design, great party support, and good use of old technology and tweaking the visuals... Still doesn't make up for horrible sound effects, guns sound effects are comparable to Super Nintendo. Poor net code allows for severe Host Advantage and getting killed around corners. Unrealistic physics, players are able to stand over 1 inch objects, killstreaks are excessive, overall experience feels way too arcadey. At the end of the day, if the game favors an unfair advantage just by having the fastest connection, the quality of the game suffers. I can deal with the asthetics and sounds, but the overall immersion of the game promotes lone wolf gameplay. Even on the team based objectives. Sometimes its not good to change what's not broke, but in this case, this is the same game made in 2007, only with different maps, a few boring new game modes. Single player is nothing more than Michael Bay type garbage. But then again if you like Michael Bay, you'll probably love the game as well. Not for me, but its my opinion and if it offends you, then you can go kill yourself. Expand

It's the same game everyone already bought with a new number in the title. You're paying the price for a full game when all you are really getting is an overpriced expansion pack.

Have been playing MW3 online for a few hours now and it surprised me that a game I wasn't looking forward to, at all, still was able to... disappoint me.

game is a cut and paste of MW2... there are even videos showing an exact building from cod 4 in MW3... Activision if you want a good score then make a good game don't beg your fans for the scores... it is obvious little effort was put into this game and the score of the community shows it.

I enjoyed MW1, I enjoyed MW2, I did not enjoy Black Ops and now I really don't enjoy MW3. Not because of the graphics or the game play but because of the lack of innovation and moving forward. Come on COD! We aren't all idiots, stop selling us the same exact product every year. Step it up next time and I will reconsider.

This game is not very good at all. I played Call of Duty: World at War, and it is basically the exact same gameplay as that with little to no innovation...why does Activision have to keep publishing these terrible games, take A FEW YEARS to develop something good? What I say here won't matter though, activision knows people will buy bad games if they release them

Same game. Each game has gotten progressively worse since Call of Duty 4. This game is exactly identical to Modern Warfare 2, and I wasn't a fan of that one either.

If you want to save 60 dollars I'm selling stickers with the number "3" written on them. Simply remove the adhesive cover and place it on a previous Modern Warfare game.

Infinitely respawning enemies with perfect accuracy & superhuman eyesight + cliched & schizophrenic story makes for a really awful and truly unenjoyable single player campaign. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
