All of these zeros are from COD haters. Click on "All this user's reviews" and notice that they all gave MW3 a zero on all platforms. Like you bought four copies? Its Pathetic. Its so obvious what they are trying to do. Metacritic should stand up and ban these fools. People come here for honest advice and opinions. Not to get to trolled by angry virgins.

This game is very fun to play. Buy it.

Just like when BFBC2 came out I opt to rather put in the COD disc, because it is just more entertaining period. Sure they are both great games, but COD outshines BF3 in all areas. So I'm sorry BF3 fanboys, you lost your battle so stop giving 0 scores here and go back to being a jet or chopper hog in that other game, where pretty much vehicles are the only fun thing about it.

The mulitplayer is strong and updated 2 points for that, the campaign is fun to play and features stunning events 2 points for that, the spec ops mode is a great extra that can be very enjoyable while playing with a friend and survival mode just gives it that addictive edge, 2 points for that, call of duty elite while the servers are down currently due to over population, is a great feature that extends the multiplayer of call of duty, 2points and finally multiplayer is addictive as ever and many changes and features have been tweaked, added and removed to fix any problems the previous games had not to mention the new ban hammer, 2 points for that. thats 10 points. but the game like everygame is flawed, the graphics while gripping are not as up to date as many other games out nowadays but at least it runs smoothly at 60fps, so minus 0.5, the multiplayer maps are too tight cornered in my opinion but nothing devastating, minus 0.2, and lastly there seems to be a bug in campaign and single player with the enemy AI where they sometimes don't die or are dead but remain in the combat position but its not so frequent so minus 0.3. so i rate this game 9/10, a good upgrade from mw2 and definatly better than black ops Expand

MW3 seems to be the best game for a FPS this season. BF3 seems to be weeping on that fact their Multiplayer lags and runs at 30 fps.... 60 for the WIN!

MW3 core game modes and play are great, I feel they did play it a bit safe and stuck with what works which makes this game solid and fun to play. Why stray away from a formula that works and produces? And the new Spec Ops is refreshing to play.

Ok so a lot of these user reviews are clearly people who don't have a lot of time on their hands then to bash a game that they feel sore about either due to fanboyism towards other properties (ala Battlefield) or due to that love of anonymity and getting on bandwagons to bash games they never try. Here's the real deal, if you've played call of Duty MW2, you've pretty much played MW3. That being said, that's not a bad thing. It restores a lot of the tried and true you may have felt was missing from Black Ops (I did not enjoy Black Ops), and ramps up on a lot of interesting small innovative changes. Strike Packages were a brilliant split, being able to assign specific killstreaks for specific builds is everything I ever wanted, and the expansion of weapons, equipment and the like is fantastic. The only thing I'm dissapointed by is the continuation of Extreme Conditioning over Marathon, but I digress.

It may not change the FPS genre or be a game changer, but it builds on what already works and is satisfying to a great degree.

Also how are you going to listen to a guy that gives this game a 0 and in the first sentence says he wasn't looking forward to this game at all?

It's getting a bad rep for the wrong reasons.

Yes the spawning is less than optimal, yes the maps kinda suck, and yes "tubes" are back in (which I never saw why people were pissed about that in the first place; if you don't like it, don't play), but you're not going to find tighter controls, better fast-paced gameplay, or better weapon customization anywhere else. Best in the series?

But hey, I can live with that. If you're here to give it a bad score because someone used a grenade launcher on you or they knifed you from behind or if you just plain suck, then you have no real perspective on the game. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad. Again, have some perspective.

The multiplayer in this game feels way more balanced. Camping is hardly an option because there are usually two or three ways to access an area and noob tubes are less powerful. The only thing negative I will say is that this definitely is not a significant leap from mw2 or black ops. 2 years of development on the game and it feels like a 1 year patch. That said, it's still a great game.

The game, yes has the same engine, graphics are only a slight improvement. But the replay ability is excellent. The have taken the best from the previous titles, and enhanced those features. The worst, they have tossed out. The campaign is no shorter than the BF3 campaign. and i found it more difficult. I sold BF3 the day after getting MW3. It is fun (bf3) and has great graphics, and very realistic. But the realism downplays the replay ability. It gets boring. CoD MW3 is and improvement. And it was two years ago when IW and Activision released a CoD title. Black Ops had NOTHING to do with these two development teams. I give it a nine, because i have not experienced the "noob tube" effect. (the one annoying feature which drives a player crazy) that ruined MW2 for me. and the game is an improvement from previous titles. The gun SOUND more realistic (especially the sniper rifles) and the power decrease of the Noob-TUBE really decreases the frustration level. The game is probably an 8.5, since the multi-player maps really kind of suck, but the addition of some good spec ops missions and survival mode really make this game massive, aside from the fairly short campaign mode. Infinity ward/Sledgehammer did a good job improving on MW2 under the circumstances of their company basically disbanding. What you get is MW2 with improved features, all the great features of Black-ops, and optimized modes for hours upon hours of gameplay. Compare to game like Uncharted 2 & 3. Uncharted 2 was a GREAT game. So was Uncharted 3. They use the same mechanics, graphics engine and really offer nothing new in gameplay, just a new updated experience. However, I did not buy this game. I bought battlefield 3, and I borrowed this from a friend. The first thing I did was play the campaign, as I always do. Being a veteran of past call of dutys, I fell right into it and had a great time, the graphics haven't changed much in terms of cell shading and textures, but there is much more scale and the amount of onscreen action almost rivaled killzone 3, and it runs at a nice framerate like all cods and the gunplay is still good. The campaign is simply non-stop adrenaline, and the devs did a nice job of finishing the story. The spec ops missions are a blast. Play them with a friend is the best way to go and the survival mode is simply brilliant. Giving money to your alley, calling in AI allies, and dropping airstrikes, was, in my opinion, a better experience than nazi zombies. In all, it doesn't make that many advances for the genre, but I believe that it is a worthy sequel and that infinity ward and sledgehammer games have a bright future ahead of them. I don't know about the multiplayer, as my live membership is gone and I play on psn, but I would stick to battlefield or killzone or whatever you favor for your online warfare. Expand

I can't believe the negative opinion on this game, people just try to tear it down, they are haters with nothing else to do, don't believe them ! I wanted to give it a 9 score because of the campain, it's too short... but I give it a 10 cause the teams behind the game deserve it =) Expand

MW3 might not be a complete overhaul or innovation, but Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have tweaked and nigh-on perfected the genre for the conclusion of their epic Modern Warfare story arc.

The level of detail and draw distance that the engine is now capable of is a great accomplishment of the development team, squeezing everything they can out of the current engine whilst still ensuring the game runs along at 60fps - a rare achievement of late with publishers and developers trading performance for graphical nirvana. The second campaign mission alone is a perfect example of the scope now available.

The story, whilst not original, still contains the trademark COD set pieces and action sequences, and bombs along at a consistent rate of knots.

The MP aspect has seen a few enhancements, with the perks and scoring systems tweaked to offer newcomers and lesser players an opportunity to shine, whilst still rewarding the hardcore elite for their accomplishments. Again this is not a radical overhaul but a pure refinement and the MW3 MP now feels extremely polished the culmination of the games' imprint on online FPS gaming over the last decade.

To summarise, it's maybe not as original as its prequels or as flamboyant as its competitors but MW3 is a well crafted, fast paced and well put together adrenaline ride that does exactly what you expect it to do well. The MP is refined and, while not massively different to previous versions, takes the greatest online FPS MP experience and makes it better. Great for old and new comers alike, try it - you just might like it.

The multiplayer returns mostly identical to previous games, although the gunplay is tighter and the weapons/perks have been further tweaked from BlOps to create a more balanced experience than MW2 without sacrificing the fun of using ridiculous toys. The actual multiplayer engine has been obviously upgraded and tweaked from previous games, creating and overall prettier game. Infinity Ward's terrible netcode does make a return from MW2, but it has been patched a few times so far and gets better each time. If you're a fan of faster paced multiplayer shooters, you should absolutely pick this up. If you want to play a game that's slower paced and has been optimized for the PC at the expense of the console versions, by all means play Battlefield 3. There are numerous additions and subtle changes to the game from Black Ops and MW2, many of which are excellent. For example the new weapon sway on many guns such as ARs and SMGs when aiming down the sights make engaging at long range more skillful. The guns kill quicker than on Black Ops and the maps are smaller and more 'crafted' for intense short firefights. The Killstreaks are slightly more complex but less powerful and in objective modes, going for the objective counts to your killstreak.

The campaign is disappointigly short, much like CoD 4, WaW MW2 and Black Ops campaigns. However this is primarily a multiplayer game and that is where MW3 is strongest. Overall I give it 9/10. It is the game MW2 should have been.

Overall MW3 is a superb addition to the series

I heard about the incredibly unbalanced user score that MW3 has received on Metacritic from IGN, and decided to create a Metacritic account just to give an unbiased and objective review and score. And to help even out this Very low score for an obviously above average game, I mean sure MW3 is not perfect but 3.1 out of ten is bull***t. First off I would like to state that I am not a COD Fan Boy and not a little kid, I'm a hardcore gamer that has been playing games since the early nineties. I play all manner of games on PC and PS3 and have also bought MW3's main competitor BF3. I have played about 30 hours on BF3's Multiplayer and have a 3.30 Kill/Death Ratio so am no noob when it comes to FPS. Even so I was disappointed with the overall products of both Battlefied 3 (which got boring faster than expected) and MW3. In the end I scored MW3 8 out of 10. It is very similar to MW2 but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The Singleplayer was OK, similar to the last two Modern Warfare's (overall uneventfull and boring with only some good bits) Spec Ops Missions are fun and exciting, especially if you have a friend to play them with and Spec Ops New Survival Mode is great addictive fun and a good addition to the series, I would say, and this is just my opinion that this is better than Zombies (playing with a mic is essential). Than you have Multiplayer which love it or hate it is pretty much the same as MW2 but with Strike Pakages, different killstreaks and different variations on old perks, some new guns and some new maps and game modes. Noob tubing, Nuke Killstreak and One Man Army Perk are gone but Quikscoping and Drop Shoting are still the order of the day. Also Spawn Deaths, Hit Detaction and Lag Issues can become a bit annoying. But with a half Decent Connection, a bit of skill and a touch of class you should be able to overcome these shotcomings to have one of the sweetest FPS Online Gaming experiences you can have at this time. I won't lie somtimes the multiplayer can have you screaming at the TV about the injustice of the last 5 Cheap deaths that made no sense whatsoever. But with a bit of patience even without the Elite Functions you get to know the layout of the maps, the spawn points, choke points, best class layouts for specific situations and maps. You will receive better weapons and figure out which strike package work best for you, and then your experience will start getting better. And to everyone saying COD is unbalanced that's BS, because there is a strategy and counter for everything your adversaries can throw at you. So after everything is said and done what it really comes down to is skill (and who has more of it). Overall, taken all the features packed into this one game and the weeks and possibly months of enjoyment that can be had, it's impossible for me to see how this game can receive a score below an 8 let alone a 5. If your a fan of FPS or games in general this a great addition to your game collection. Definately not MW2 DLC, and for only $50 to $100 are you that poor/cheap to complain about purchasing a great game and depriving yourself of fun just because a bunch of pathetic PC BF3 Fanboy Sheep/Followers decided to flood this site with negative reviews. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hi I have read a lot of damaging reviews on this game and a lot seem written by anti cod gamers, and fanboys of other games, (not mentioning names)

Firstly, The graphics are great, sure its no frosbite 2 or cry engine 3, but honestly bf3 doesn't look mindblowing on console, I own it for xb360 and pc, and its worthy of all titles on pc, on xbox howerver still a great game but nowhere near polished as pc,
Back to cod, the engine may be old, but it works, 1080p 60fps and looks and moves great, better than other games in the fps genre on xbox,
The story is among the best out there with Michael bay levels of cinematic action, sure its a little on rails and sure enemies spawn like mad, but still entertaining and fun, not as long as I'd of hoped for but good noneless with some amazing scenes like the airplane level, sheer brilliance.

Spec ops play is cod's answer to horde mode, adding another layer of depth to an exiting mode from mw2 so another plus, But the multiplayer is where it is shining, quickscoping makes a frustrating return, some dissconnection issues but infrequent enough to pose a problem, sure the kids who ruin cod are back with rapid fire controllers jump drop shot mods, and I'm sure iv seen one hacked player on launch night with 8th prestige at 00:15 from the UK! But as in black ops we have the means to report players for these things and vid capture is the evidence needed, I'm sure after 1 or 2 updates this game will be perfect, its amazing as it is now, I like the smooth but fast pace to the game, guns feel dangerous, and killstreaks are now availible in different guises thanks to strike packages such as support mode, never again will a camper ruin your stealth bomber! Because all actions from assists and captures count and roll over to your support streaks! New modes like kill confirmed add some fresh fun to the stacked playlist as well as all your favourite hardcore varients, It would have been nice to see the return of 3rd person modes as they allow you to appreciate the great detail and animation of the game.
Levelling up is not a chore no more, your weapons have profficencys which adds to your persistence too.

Overall its level design and fast pace lend back to the the best cod ever cod 4! But with fresh ideas better graphics its a massive improvement from Cods of late, Don't get me wrong I loved black ops, loved WaW until hackers ruined it, I loved mw2 but my favourite was still cod 4! Now obvious comparisons to battlefield are ineviteable but pointless, they are 2 different games, they look feel and play different but are equally as good in my opinion but for different reasons, Realistically this has more to keep you playing than bf3 due to spec ops and a addictive levelling system

My only downpoints are Quickscoping! Get rid of it or make a specific game mode for it!
I'd like to see what is possible from activision sledgehammer etc with a new engine, as good as this is, it will begin to fall behind! Get elite fixed as I purchased the hardened ed!

I'd like to start by saying this game probably receives more hate than it deserves. While it's not a perfect game, it's not the worst game ever either. I bought the game knowing it would be fun to play with friends and to burn time, its a fun competitive game. MW3 was not bought to boggle my mind as a new game it was bought to have fun and kill things with new and familiar guns. It's like a michael Bay film big booms draw attention to it, the story may not be great and it may not be innovative but hell at least you can watch it with friends and get some enjoyment out of killing other noobs. Modern Warfare 3 is a polished and well made shooter that has a high octane campaign mode and a versatile multiplayer. Spec Ops Survival is the best addition to the series, and spec ops is even more fun with a point system attached to it. That being said, the MP does get a bit too frantic and can be very frustrating due to the tiny maps that reward people who run laps around them. Kill confirmed and some of the new playtypes are a happy addition to the sometimes monotonous team deathmatch. Overall I wish IW branched out a little bit and added some bigger maps and more options for those who do not always want to run and gun. Although easier to get into and less tedious than BF3's maps and MP, MW3 can learn a thing or two from their main competition.

Either way, if you are a fan of shooters and have a high tolerance to being overwhelmed occasionally in MP, then get MW3. Too many people are just rating the game a 0 b/c they want it to fail, not b/c it is a bad game. This metacritic rating system is flawed, but hopefully enough rational individuals will give their honest opinion instead of just bombarding the ratings with 0's.

Activison is a spammer, they spam the same game at you every year. It's funny how they do not take long to make CoD games, it's because they copy and paste everything... from sounds, guns EVERYTHING. By the end of this year we will have 17 or 18 Call of Duties... They will come out with A PS Vita version too, they are comming out with Black Ops 2, Pretty soon you wont know which Call of Duty came out first... Why don't all games just be called Call of Duty? Pretty soon you will buy a different game, and Call of Duty will be in the box.... there's no escaping Call of Duty. Activison is ruining the gaming industry, and you guys are letting them... How about we have a kinect version aswell? Call of Duty needs to die, and if it doesn't we probably will have another videogame crash, like we did a long time ago when E.T came out for the Atari... Everyone should take there CoD games and fly them to a hidden desert and bury it. Better yet, how about we take all C0D games and spend a few billion dollars and fly them into the sun. I'm guessing that wouldn't work either, the sun would get sick of playing C0D all the time too and explode... Mark my words... I bet when everyone gets tired of Call of Duy..Activison will keep making them, but call it something else. From now on they should just call it Re-call of Duty... And on the box it should say " Now with more of the same" 2 weeks later out comes Re-call of Duty 2 Pink Ops. And Super Call of Duty brothers. Expand

So, with each iteration of the game simply increasing what you can do, giving you more choices and customization, why is this now a negative thing? Fans of the Fifa games will buy each yearly game because they are fans of Football, and whilst it may bug them that not enough changes have actually been made, they will still purchase it. This game is no different.

With a game that is, as the User Metacritic score suggests, "Generally unfavourable", why does each and every FPS (with a serious tone) try to emulate the success that Activision and the studios achieve? The industry begs for innovation, and complains when it is not given to them, but when titles come out that give us something new, they fail to sell well at all (Bulletstorm, I'm looking at you). Regardless of whether this game doesn't innovate as much as you would have liked it to, they innovated nearly every aspect of the tried and tested formula with the original MW so, if anything, they deserve a little time to rest and do what they do well; make an addictive multi-player, a coherent single player, and a wealth of customizations.

Multiplayer is more balanced, single player has been ramped up in the ridiculousness, I like it much, much, more than I wanted to after the less than amicable split between the Activison and West/Zampella. After having played every COD game developed by IW since the original, I was certainly upset that the final chapter of the MW series wouldn't have many of the original guys working on it, but as much as I dislike Activision, they gave this game enough resources to do it justice. It was almost an "all hands on deck" situation it seems. As much as I detest the pace of the release schedule, they have earned a bit of respect from me for not dropping the ball on this game. Expand

"If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" The majority of the reviews below give negative feed back that claim it's too similar. The only thing I can conclude is that a majority of these "gamers" were expecting something close to EA's Battlefield 3, but I digress. I have followed the Modern Warfare series campaign story since Call of Duty 4. I was a freshman in high school and I am satisfied with the fact all the pieces come together as it comes to an end while I am a freshman attending college in one of the most adrenaline rushed Call of Duty Campaigns I've played as of yet. I can say I've grown with a lot of the characters in Modern Warfare in a way a child may grow with a characters like Mickey Mouse or Buzz Lightyear. It saddens me to have to see them go. With the multiplayer fallback I have I can only say It feels refreshing to jump back into some online Call of Duty. With New Maps, Weapon Perks and so much more, It's like returning to school after a long summer break with some new kicks, pants and t-shirts. The online is as fun as it's always been, and the campaign, as suspenseful as the last. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
