This game is amazing. Jaw dropping moments at every turn define the campaign. A solid experience that is well worth the time, especially in a time when other games are released with major flaws. The multiplayer maps are also well designed and the create a class/challenges are much more balanced.

It´s Modern Warfare 2.5. A Michael Bayeiysh campaign with no real impact from the player but fun. Multiplayer finally polished, but old.

This is an expansion pack, you´ll have fun but it does not live up to the hipe.

It's sad to see so many people rip on this game. Is it innovative? No. But since when does every single game need to be innovative? So many people like to claim "it looks the same as CoD4." If you honestly believe that, throw CoD4 in and take a look. You will be surprised to see that there actually has been pretty decent improvement. Besides, no matter what is going on the game clips along at an impressive 60 fps. Tl:dr, Don't let the whiney BF3 fanboys fool you. They desperately want people to believe that BF3 trumps MW3. It isn't even close. If you enjoy a bunch of camping and horrible frame rates, by all means play BF3. If you want to actually ENJOY a game AND HAVE FUN, stick with MW3. Expand

Modern Warfare and MW2 were both very innovative games and it can be easily argued that they changed the console FPS genre forever. The graphics do hold up still, the engine is fine, and multiplayer is still fun. The game is good. The reason everyone is angry is because they expected more from IW, and so did I. Still, I've poured a lot of hours into this game already and I don't regret it, but people seem to think that just because it's not completely innovative means the game warrants a 0/10. Expand

I only played single player, so my remarks are confined to that aspect of the game. I enjoyed the continuation of the storyline in the single player campaign. Storyline has always been a hallmark in this series, and COD:MW 3 continues in this regard. The storyline was much, much better that Battlefield 3's.

For a game that has garnered critical praise and broke records, this game just goes to show the "Madden Effect." Every year, same old game, little to no innovation. While the only redeeming quality of the game is the campaign which is the best of the trilogy, I cannot stress the moments where I paused a bit and thought to myself, "I've done this before or I've seen this before." The multiplayer is largely intact as it was in MW2 but I can't help but say that the maps just feel wrong and for some off reason, recycled from past games. Spec Ops will kill some time but you can only go so far with it. Survival only goes to show that games will borrow just about anything to make themselves more content rich but if I wanted this kind of game mode I would stick to Gears of War, but that's just me. Perks, maps, weapons and killstreaks all make a return but only with a few additions. Here is my opinion to sum up this criticism in case this has become boring. I did my best not reveal any spoilers.

Is this game good? Depends when you came into COD. For the vets of COD, it's a mixed bag.

Is it worth its value? No, I would've definitely bought this as a $20-30 expansion instead of a full fledged price tag of $60. Should I get it? I'd say if you're interested, rent it first before you buy it. To sum it all up: If you're new to the series or played the other MW games and don't mind the fact you're paying $60 for an expansion then go ahead and buy it. If you're like me, who's beginning to notice the Madden Effect in this once very popular franchise, then rent it but don't have too many great expectations, you may come away disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. MW3 is an add-on to a controversial series such as it's predecessors. The game brings back all the things that we love and love to hate about Call of Duty. I will review the three modes (Campaign, Spec Ops and Multiplayer) into different categories and review, since it's what they deserve.
Campaign - The campaign takes after the events of Modern Warfare 2 and continues with a slightly new cast which includes Captain Price, Soap and Makorav, and also some new characters like the men in the delta team and Yuri. (An ex-spetsnaz) I was disappointed with the story compared to the last installment. (Call of Duty Black Ops) The ending wasn't as good either, I feel it wasn't much as a ending as it was a thing the storyboard writers written when it hit 12 am. Spec Ops - Spec Ops was a mode that was added two years ago in Modern Warfare 2, I found that I enjoyed playing the missions in Spec Ops enjoyable to play. When i played the original missions I got bored really easily bored, but the missions in Mw3 were revamped and the layouts and objectives were reasonable and fun, especially with a friend.
Multiplayer - Fun, but it didn't live up to my expectations for a good game. It (Like many other fans say) is a edited version of the Modern Warfare 2 system. I found it fun, but it could have been WAAY better. I have to give Raven Software credit however, the made a decent multi-player in which people can't get addicted to it. I will add my scores together:
3 points - Campaign - It added a mediocre ending to the mediocre series, I thought it was good enough however to get a three. 4 points - Spec Ops - The added missions and survival mode are a huge part of the replayability in this game, I love it! So I will give it four points.
1 Point - Multiplayer - I give it a one because It's nearly the exact same system as before with absolutely no risks taken for the ending part of the series. The only thing difference is a little bit better graphics and a touch of new guns, and some poorly made maps. I will only give it a one because it's RS' first time at a COD multiplayer mode.

All combine with the magic DNA of previous Modern Warfare titles to give the player a rich & lengthy gameplay experience. Spec-Ops alone has around 100 hours gameplay time. SP maybe 10-12 hours. Granted the story line could be better, but it is a great way to carry on from the MW2 end, and (IMO) actually fun. That's what I love in a game, its not how technically amazing it is, or the realism of the storyline (seeming as this is not set now it is still realistic), it is just the pure fun of playing it. I love playing through the story because it just is fun to see what happens next, and the fact that this is possible to happen (though more dulled down) also (for me) is good. I also love the fun of playing multiplayer either competitively, or just messing around with my friends. Fun is what I look for, seems you guys just want to play a game, decide you hate it, tell other people not buy it and enforce your opinion, then play it some more so you can become top of your friends. If you want some fun and a pretty good storyline, this game is great. Though I would buy it at a cheaper price, I got this with 25% off. Besides I disagree with hype around games that are expensive, just buy them after a couple of months or so and they wil become cheaper.

There was a time when I was a hardcore COD fan. Back when it was still a WWII game, and dwarfed by EA's Medal of Honor series. And even ignoring the at best average COD:3, I still loved the series, and loved it even more when they dropped COD:4. Sure I was still playing BF2, but there was nothing like Modern Warfare, and in many ways it was better than BF2. But now, I can only sigh when I see another COD being released. For all of their influence and reinvention of the FPS genre, they have fallen completely stale. I would not recommend buying MW:3, unless you are really in love with the series. The campaign has turned into something so ridiculous I don't even think the worst Hollywood action movies could out do it, and while the set pieces still bring a slight bit of excitement, it all just feels like I've done this before. The only solid part about the whole thing is that it closes out the series storyline.( I hope, anyway) The multiplayer has some nice tweaks in it and I have to say the co-op is also very well done, but once again, it all feels the same. It's still the corridor, run-n-gun, twitch reflex, no-scope, game. And despite all of the small, and well done tweaks, the game just seems to be all too familiar to keep me interested. I can honestly say that I tried, I played with a bunch of friends, tried to re-light that fire that kept me playing COD:4 for years, but it's just not there anymore. Honestly, I would say this game is worth the rental, especially if you played COD:4, and MW2, just to close out the story. However, I would absolutely not recommend buying MW:3, it's just not worth the money anymore. Expand

I played the single player last night (having already played multiplayer a few nights before), and I was blown away by the way the game drew me in, it just feels like classic COD... yes, not much in innovation, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. The hardcore fans of the series love it for all it's core gameplay and style... so this game, may feel like an expensive add on, but it's still bloody good! MW3 however, sold 6.5 million copies and is easily the number one game for FPS's. MW3 uses the same engine as MW2, but that's no surprise. Its still a great game and keeps on getting better. MW3 is great simply because it has always been great. BF3 has major slowdowns, hardly gets to the desired 60fps, and looks choppy. BF3 has better graphics but with the slowdowns, it simply sucks by comparison. MW3 runs at 60fps and never slows down once. Its FLUID!! And still looks great. BF3 is a wide-open gaming that has huge maps. You get in, and it takes a long time just to find someone to shoot at.

Bottom line: MW3 is a familiar close-encounter game that is far more fun. The low ratings here are simply people at EA trying to destroy the competition by giving it a low rating. EA games suck. They have always sucked, as evidenced by many games. Especially Crysis 2 when EA made Crytek release an Alpha to the public to make money.

Now we have to deal with Origin on computer's? Say no to CRAPWARE, say NO to EA. EA is going down the tubes... the faster the better.

The trolling of the user reviews for this game really disappoints me. There is no way, no way in hell, this game deserves anything less than a 7.5 from even the most jaded of gamers. When I read the early user reviews it was obvious the BF3 trolls were out in force. But the extent to which they have overwhelmed it made me wonder if perhaps Metacritic might try to filter the fanboys and retain some shadow of dignity. The professional reviewers inflate ratings, and no one questions this. When your livelihood depends on ad revenue and freebies from the ever-shrinking number of studios, who could really criticize them? That having been said, Metacritic has had the honorable position of hedging the professional reviewers with user reviews, and it made for the best (though certainly imperfect) way to judge a game one was unfamiliar with. Of course, MW is the biggest game franchise in history, so no one is really unfamiliar with it. Nonetheless, I wondered if Metacritic might take action to retain some semblance of objectivity. Then I realized Metacritic was owned by News Corp, which has a 5% stake in EA.com. Oh well. Something will come along to replace it i guess. BTW, I love BF3, glitches and all.

The multi-player is a great upgrade from the last game and the new kill-streaks and the (new) types of perks make the multiplayer much more enjoyable. You will be too much into destroying the enemy team than standing and staring and rocks and bushes to see how "real" they are. Now with the campaign, it is just fantastic. To top it off is the vastly improved Spec Ops co-op that is now fine-tuned to be an equally enjoyable solo experience to the campaign with Survival discovering how to balance solo and co-op where Zombies et al could not.
People may argue that the game runs on an old engine but briefly ignoring the fact that this is a very nice-looking game with a silky smooth 60FPS: since when have engines been the be-all and end-all of a game's success... Ocarina of Time 3D is still one of the best games of the year despite running on an engine from a decade ago so that cant be a detrimental factor to MW3.....
The highlight of the series and the most fun I've had with an FPS since Portal 2 (and there have been many in between you'll all note) :)

I'm liking this game a lot. it does what it says on the tin. If you expected it do be massively different from MW2, then I guess it was not MW3 you were expecting.

Plays well, looks good and it's fun to play.

Don't believe the haters. If you liked MW2, which was ace, then you'll love this. Story continues where MW2 leaves off and delivers more of the same epic modern warfare we've come to love.

Multiplayer has massively improved this time around and lots of new co-op goodness as well.

More of the same in 2 years please IW.

Treyarch's shooters all feel sluggish and inaccurate, but Infinity Ward and now Sledgehammer deliver tight mechanics. I am now used to BLOPs, but it took a while, where it took no time to feel at home in MW3. I can't comment on the story as I played 15 minutes of it before bed last night, but so far it is looking to be a great ride. Multiplayer is where MW3 shines. The tweak of making streaks based on points as opposed to kills is huge! This makes the game more accessible to people like myself whose K/D ratio is below 1 because now I don't need to have a stellar game to contribute to my team's welfare. New game modes make the multiplayer feel fresh. I love Spec Ops. I wish it allowed 4 people, but MW3 got it right to limit it to 2 players. Overall, this is the best shooter out there right now. BF3 is great and I will continue to split my gaming time between it and MW3, but MW3 is just more intense than BF3. This is a tough month to be a game. Competing with BF3, MW3, Skyrim and Halo CEA in the same month. Four great games, 3 shooters, and one epic RPG. Right now, MW3 is top of the pile. MW3 is worth the price of admission and that's not even bringing the COD Elite service into the picture. Elite makes MW3 into a social experience to rival Battlelog and Bungie's stat tracking software for Halo. This enriches the gamer's experience by providing goals, bragging opportunities, and community to the franchise. Without Elite multiplayer seems more often than not feels like playing with a bunch of selfish monkeys. With Elite, you can team up with like minded gamers and forge an experience that satisfies and builds your gaming prowess while enhancing the community of gamers as a whole.

Long story short - this game is great. Totally worth every penny. Cudos to Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward. To all the people who say people shouldn't buy this game all I have to say is "Why did you buy it then?" This game will be played by millions for years to come.

All these negative reviews must be from BF3 fanboys or something. I find it suspect that EVERYONE went out and got the game at midnight, or early on 11/8 and despises it because it's the same as the other games.

Um.. what? Newsflash. ALL of these Modern Warfare games have been the same. If you played MW2, which was basically the same as MW1.. why would you expect innovation at this point?

Um.. what? Newsflash. ALL of these Modern Warfare games have been the same. If you played MW2, which was basically the same as MW1.. why would you expect innovation at this point? And yet, you still ran out and bought the game. Congrats. You just told IW and Activision that you'll buy the game regardless of what's inside the case. I'm sure you'll be picking up MW4 at launch as well, just to complain about it some more.

I don't get it. Anyway.. good game. Nothing innovative, sure. But it's enjoyable. Really, at this point, they really are just glorified map packs, but I don't mind. I play each game pretty religiously until the next one is out. I like the feel of the guns, and the new multiplayer modes are fun. The only complaint I can think of is that the maps are maybe too small and cramped.

Its the best at SP, MP, Spec-Ops simply everything. The game may be close to MW2 at graphics but its the best game ever. Best-in-class multiplayer is now more balanced than ever. Also you shouldn't worry about empty servers because it is best selling game ever. It deserves 10.

Best CoD to date, no doubt. The Multiplayer is similar to MW2 but all the annoying things are fixed. This game is just what i was hoping for. This game is leagues ahead of any other shooter on xbox 360 and i don't want to start a flame war but this includes BF3. All the trolls on this site giving it a zero just look pathetic.

After 600 hours on mw2 i can say this is very similar but slightly better. New modes new weapons. The graphic at 60fps for this generation of conosle is this , they can't do magic. After the disappointment for black ops i think this is a good return of a classic fps.

Just an FYI, being able to balance MW3's multiplayer in such a great way is worth a 10 in it of itself. Ultimately, Modern Warfare 3 feels similar to it's brethren, but that doesn't mean it isn't a great game. The single player element is still exciting, and multiplayer has more options than ever – if you're a fan of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3 is a no brainer.

Modern Warfare 3, while still an excellent thrill ride in its own right, feels far too similar to MW2 or even Black Ops for my taste.
  3. I never expected Modern Warfare 3 to go toe-to-toe with EA's juggernaut this year, but it came out of the gates with a tour de force campaign and co-op mode. It loses points with a perhaps too-familiar multiplayer that caters to the juvenile on Xbox Live; though don't be mistaken, Modern Warfare 3 is one hell of a shooter and a highlight for a series that just won't die – no matter how much we wish it bloody would, at times.
