UPDATE to my old review. Now the game runs a lot smoother. Maybe my console was overheated? I've had it since launch and that has never happened before. Or maybe the update (which I 100 percent downloaded before starting the game) did not get applied properly. I did not "cover the vents" on my Wii U or anything, I'm not retarded, there is plenty of space around it. In any case, the gameUPDATE to my old review. Now the game runs a lot smoother. I did not "cover the vents" on my Wii U or anything, I'm not retarded, there is plenty of space around it. In any case, the game still has a lower frame rate than PC, and suffers from frame drops. But it is playable in its current state. I would advise getting the PC version if at all possible, or the XBone/PS4 one I suppose.

The game itself is not very impressive. It would never live up to the hype, but to me the biggest shortcoming is the level design, it's just not where it needs to be. A platformer like this lives and dies with the level design. If instead of spending all that time with online mode, voice acting (which still turned out horrible) and God knows what other useless crap, they instead would've focused on level design I think this would've turned out a lot better. This is very much an IntiCreates game, and as per usual the levels rely way too much on "spikes" and various instant death setups. It's half assed, and does not come close to for example the Mega Man ZX-games. I would rate this worse than most Mega Man-games except possibly for X4-X6, but not by much.

15 minutes into my first play of MN9, my Wii U completely froze and had to be turned off. I should have left it off rather than continue with this frustrating endeavour. The level design is really poor, and when the game is difficult, it seems purely by chance, rather than being intentionally challenging. I was relieved when "Game Over" flashed up on screen.

If one were meant to confuse this with Mega Man, just confuse it as a bad Mega Man game and that's pretty much simple. Sadly, no one can resist having this title in their Wii U collection and all that money they threw in were wasted. Avoid this title for once.

After a protracted development period that saw many early supporters turn to non-believers, Keiji Inafune's spiritual successor to Mega Man proves it wasn't really worth the wait after all.

Mighty No. 9 follows closely the formula of Mega Man X games, with an initial stage followed by eight freely selectable master robot levels. It strays where it matters the most, however, as the level design spans the spectrum from passable to absolutely atrocious. Unlike masterpieces like Mega Man 3, the difficulty spikes feel supremely forced instead of organic, making some of the sections an exercise in frustration.

The game introduces a dash mechanic that is actually a pretty neat idea: you first weaken enemies, then have the opportunity to quickly dash through them to get temporary power-ups. Sadly, other gameplay details are less then acceptable. There's the inability to change weapons while paused, for example. Or the E-tank replacement that inexplicably vanishes after each death, preventing hoarding and pretty much completely undermining the item's usefulness.

Then there's the fact that the game looks, in a word, horrible. The graphics are all blurry, filled with low-definition assets and those already infamously bad explosion effects.

If you're a fan of Mega Man (like I am), Mighty No. 9 can scratch the itch for a few hours. After that, chances are you'll feel so unenthusiastic that it's gonna be hard even finding the will to see it through.

The game has 3ds graphics even though it is a WII U game. The game crashes a lot for no reason and your wii u burns for no reason. The controls suck and the game lacks almsot everything! This is not mighty at all!

Mighty no. 9 is a game that is fun but the wii u version just isn't playable, it lags and loads for ages.

Despite that the game isn't even amazing it's just fun and solid.

Before you say this is a ripoff of mega man, it's not, but that doesn't make the game any less horrible, pretty much just mega man but not mega man... I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said

If you want to play the biggest disappointment of the whole of Next Gen consoles, look no further than Mighty No. 9.
Good lord where do I begin? For a game that costs up to $4 Million this has CERTAINLY been absolutely horrible, the frame rate goes all over the place, and even in places you really would think it can run at 60FPS.

The lack of instructions also doesn't help, two times I've counted where I've died because of something the game didn't tell me I could do something different with the Dash move.
Not to mention how it doesn't like the Wii U controls, as a Nintendo Gamer, I'm used to pressing A to Jump, but Mighty No. 9 seemed to have taken note from Sonic Boom and put B to jump, and even as the default confirm button on the Menus.
The voice acting is horrible, it sound passable when you start off, but the moment you start of in Mighty No. 3 Dynatron's stage, you will begin to hate the voice acting more and more.
The graphics do not hold well at all, not even for Indie standards, ESPECIALLY not when it costed $4 Million to make!
I bought this at my local Gaming Retailer for £15, and that came with a double sided poster, free DLC and a laughably bare art-book.
I honestly wouldn't be so hard on this game, if it wasn't for its very high budget and constant delays, and the fact that it was made by the man who has made Mega Man games for nearly 20 years.
The fact that the Wii U version is somehow the worst version, really shows they didn't care, they got the dev kits, they should've known what would work and what wouldn't so they could've released all versions with no faults.
You must really hate yourself if you're even going to consider buying this game, seriously, just don't, do yourself a favour

This game is 100% trash. I refuse to even describe the atrocities that I had to endure while playing this anal vomit. I sold this game the day after I stupidly bought it.

It's just Mediocre. The 360/Wii U/PS3 versions don't look that great and the default button mapping is pretty lazy once you realize it's pretty much mapped the same way as how it would be on a 360 controller (i.e the OK button is "B") The cut scenes are cheap and the Voice acting is just as cheap. Stay away from the Wii U version.

Mighty No. 9 is a game you don’t want to continue playing. It tries to ride on the wave of Mega Man nostalgia without understanding why people love Mega Man. [Sept 2016]

My fingers are crossed that Comcept gets their act together and can create a sequel that is the Mega Man 2 to this underwhelming original. [Issue #23 – September/October 2016, p.68]

Mighty No. 9 created very high expectations and could have reached a perfect formula for success but as it is, it failed to capture Mega Man's essence and doesn't build up on what its inspiration did best.
