Mighty No.9 was one of the most hyped up titles that unfortunately, did not deliver on all that it was built up to be and even had a bad marketing campaign for it. Mighty No.9 features a pleasant world where technology is very advanced and there isn't any sort of conflict between other countries and so forth. That is until robots start acting aggressive and hostile. Even our heroes brethren can't control their urge to be baddies. Mighty No.9, or Beck for short, is tasked by his professor and his other professor friend to restore the other Mighty Numbers to their good guy selves and join forces to tackle on the true threat behind of all of these corrupted robots. The game relies heavily on combos and has some small frame rate issues that don't usually take over unless its in certain parts where there is multiples of the infamous "pizza explosions" happening at once. It doesn't freeze the game or make it crash but rather makes it a tad annoying to see. It also is a spiritual successor to the much praised Megaman series and takes on many aspects like the difficult platforming, the ability to absorb the bosses abilities and add them to your own, and a laser beam like megaman. However, this game relies heavily on combos which is performed when you shoot enemies a certain amount of time and dash into them thus absorbing them and gaining points The game runs fine on the Wii U and the load times are ok too. Loading times last about 10 seconds max. Makes me wonder why people complained this version was atrocious. I personally enjoyed the game with it's bright and colorful world along with the difficult platforming, the new abilities to absorb from each boss fight, and some certain characters's personality. Some cheesy jokes are cringe worthy but others are well timed and pretty funny. Especially Avi. However, if you aren't into wanting to hear english dialogue, the audio can be changed to some other languages like french or Japanese. Plus there is subtitles for you to understand what's going on if you choose another language option which is great. Now if only that sort of option would be used for Japanese only import titles so that people who import can understand plots to the games they buy. Anyways, the game isn't as bad as everyone says it is. It just was put on a pedestal and basically let everyone down on all of the hype like No Man's Sky. However, if you come in with no hype and just to play it for some fun, then you'll be pleasantly surprised by this game and I personally would recommend it regardless of port you choose to play it on. Thanks for reading my review and have a good one! Expand

    Game play 5/10
its watered down mega man with few changes. The robot powers are not very good i only used like 3 of them and the game play is not helped by the terrible level design which is lacks a sense of flow that the old games have they also dont use the new dash mechanic as much as they should have.
    Controls 7/10
Overall the controls are fine but feel a but more stiff than the old games the dash to me when it was used was very fun and it was satisfying to dash trough enemies the controls overall are not half bad.
    Music 6/10
its ok techno music i would say more but i can barely hear it over the sound effects like the sound mixing in this game is terrible.
    Worth the price no
I would say it is worth the very cheap 10$ it goes for now and days but its not worth your time there so many better 2d action games which are way more worth the price
Final score 6/10 an ok game not worth your time though

Pls set the Sounds efects on 8-bit & Japanese voice, than u will get one of the best Megaman Soundtracks ever!! for me it is not the best megaman but it can hold easy with every other megaman. so i would give this game 80% from 100%. this game had only one slowdown, in the mighty # 4 stage. for me, the bad reviews are from persons they never was a fan of megaman games and try now 2 manipulate with bad reviews this good megaman game & the independent video game developer Comcept Inc.
some last words for the graphics. like i said it before, it looks good & clean for a Megaman game, the Details are average, i now most of the reviewers hate the graphics, the fact is, this game will release for 3ds and all other systems and ComCept Inc. try a way 2 let this game look on every system the same and this is for the most others maybe a disappointment. the question is what people really expect ? GTA 5 graphics ? or Metal Gear Solid 5 Graphics ? can it look same on 3ds & pc than ? asks yourselves..

Love the characters (the chatter in the fight with Avi is hilarious), the boss fights are fun, the mechanics for competitive play / speedthrough are there, and the Xel absorption mechanic makes the game feel different enough from MegaMan that it isn't a complete ripoff from the original experience. Overall it's one of the funner games I've played.

But from a technical standpoint, the team did an awful job. While I don't mind the simplistic look (in fact I rather like it), it seems like it takes *waaay* too much processing power to produce the look. Super Mario 3D World has a better appearance, more details, and a larger world, yet experiences absolutely no detectable frame drops, just for comparison. The frame drops in Mighty No. 9 are terrible, especially in sections that are particularly difficult, such as the falling fireballs / dropping platforms section on the Oil Platform, or the section in the Construction Site where you have to run from the drill. Dropping frames when you need them the most for quick reflex purposes is a sure sign of an unrefined game.

Further, the cutscenes have completely lazy animation. While you could get away with that in a Wii game with no voice acting, you really can't get away with it here. Sure, you could easily cut corners by having mouths move anime style and have some meaningful body language -- and in fact something like that would be completely appropriate -- but they did literally nothing to make the cutscenes bearable to watch.

I can imagine the game being made in "retro" style, like the Shantae series, and the game scoring 10's in all reviews. The gameplay is fresh, the level design is excellent, the characters are enjoyable, and having a retro-style game wouldn't take away from any of that. Everything "bad" about the game comes exclusively from their technical choices.

I had more fun playing and dying in this game than I did in Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.

The music is forgettable, but passable. The voice acting is bad, but the Japanese voices with English subs are perfectly fine. The graphics are so-so, but graphics are not the reason you're playing a retro Mega Man game.

If you're 30 years old and grew up loving Mega Man X and would enjoy a challenging old-school game I see no reason you would not like this game overall.

If you're too young to remember spiked floors, 3 lives, difficult bosses that require memorization and getting sent back to the beginning of the level when you die, then sure, you are going to hate this game -- and you will probably blame your hatred on the squandered Kickstarter $3 million. But guess what? This is a THIRTY DOLLAR TITLE. FOR WHAT IT COSTS, IT IS BETTER THAN GOOD.

    Deal with it!

I think people just wanted this game to be bad because of how the kick starter was handled...but here's the thing, none of that has anything to do with the actual game. So, what? You're all bitter that Keiji Inafune took the money you're throwing at him for a game that only needed a small budget? Wouldn't you do the same thing? He probably used it to grow his company, Comcept, a small start up that's now much bigger thanks to this kickstarter.
The game's not perfect, but, like, the things people are complaining about are non-issues.
Everyone's complaining about the English voice acting and cutscenes being terrible, but no one's mentioned that there's a Japanese Language option, I have heard, literally, not one critic bring that up; and the Japanese voices are pretty good...also, so what if the voice acting and cutscenes are bad, who **** cares? Remember this **** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h4Vt8MR8NY? And that was a great game.
The graphics aren't great is the other complaint...yeah, I mean, no, they're not...but again, why does that matter...did you play Megaman for cutting edge graphics?
Also, I'm playing this on the WiiU, apparently the most broken version due to load times up to a minute long...where is this happening to people? I mean, sure, the load times are longer then they should be, but I've yet to encounter one longer then 10 seconds.
It doesn't play exactly like Megaman...sure, it doesn't...but did you really want that? There's been about 13 proper Megaman releases, and that's not counting Megaman X, Megaman Zero and Megaman ZX which all play pretty similarly...do we really need another one? It actually plays closer to Azure Striker, which I loved...though, it may be a bit too similar, to the point where I'm kind of wondering why this needed to be a new franchise.
Bottom line is it plays very well, fast paced, responsive, great for speed runs and score challenges. I don't really know what people were expecting with this title outside of that.
It's not perfect, certainly, and it def shouldn't have taken this long to finish, or cost as much as it, supposedly, did...but, again, none of that really has anything to do with gameplay.
I will say though It is disappointing that they choose to use the Unreal Engine (that's probably what's causing all those load times), but plenty of good games that you people all love use that unfortunate game engine...I mean, every Suda/Grasshopper Studios game uses the Unreal Engine and suffers from the same problems because of it, but you all love that **** (I love those games too).

It's nice to have a way to get a quick burst of speed in a game like this, another thing no other Mega Man game has ever done. Seeing a pattern? This game is like Mega Man, but good. I did not "cover the vents" on my Wii U or anything, I'm not retarded, there is plenty of space around it. In any case, the gameUPDATE to my old review. Now the game runs a lot smoother. But it is playable in its current state. I would advise getting the PC version if at all possible, or the XBone/PS4 one I suppose.

The game itself is not very impressive. It would never live up to the hype, but to me the biggest shortcoming is the level design, it's just not where it needs to be. A platformer like this lives and dies with the level design. If instead of spending all that time with online mode, voice acting (which still turned out horrible) and God knows what other useless crap, they instead would've focused on level design I think this would've turned out a lot better. This is very much an IntiCreates game, and as per usual the levels rely way too much on "spikes" and various instant death setups. It's half assed, and does not come close to for example the Mega Man ZX-games. I would rate this worse than most Mega Man-games except possibly for X4-X6, but not by much.

15 minutes into my first play of MN9, my Wii U completely froze and had to be turned off. I should have left it off rather than continue with this frustrating endeavour. The level design is really poor, and when the game is difficult, it seems purely by chance, rather than being intentionally challenging. I was relieved when "Game Over" flashed up on screen.

If one were meant to confuse this with Mega Man, just confuse it as a bad Mega Man game and that's pretty much simple. Sadly, no one can resist having this title in their Wii U collection and all that money they threw in were wasted. Avoid this title for once.

Mighty No. 9 follows closely the formula of Mega Man X games, with an initial stage followed by eight freely selectable master robot levels. It strays where it matters the most, however, as the level design spans the spectrum from passable to absolutely atrocious. Unlike masterpieces like Mega Man 3, the difficulty spikes feel supremely forced instead of organic, making some of the sections an exercise in frustration.

The game introduces a dash mechanic that is actually a pretty neat idea: you first weaken enemies, then have the opportunity to quickly dash through them to get temporary power-ups. Sadly, other gameplay details are less then acceptable. There's the inability to change weapons while paused, for example. Or the E-tank replacement that inexplicably vanishes after each death, preventing hoarding and pretty much completely undermining the item's usefulness.

Then there's the fact that the game looks, in a word, horrible. The graphics are all blurry, filled with low-definition assets and those already infamously bad explosion effects.

If you're a fan of Mega Man (like I am), Mighty No. 9 can scratch the itch for a few hours. After that, chances are you'll feel so unenthusiastic that it's gonna be hard even finding the will to see it through.

The lack of instructions also doesn't help, two times I've counted where I've died because of something the game didn't tell me I could do something different with the Dash move.
Not to mention how it doesn't like the Wii U controls, as a Nintendo Gamer, I'm used to pressing A to Jump, but Mighty No. 9 seemed to have taken note from Sonic Boom and put B to jump, and even as the default confirm button on the Menus.
The voice acting is horrible, it sound passable when you start off, but the moment you start of in Mighty No. 3 Dynatron's stage, you will begin to hate the voice acting more and more.
The graphics do not hold well at all, not even for Indie standards, ESPECIALLY not when it costed $4 Million to make!
I bought this at my local Gaming Retailer for £15, and that came with a double sided poster, free DLC and a laughably bare art-book.
I honestly wouldn't be so hard on this game, if it wasn't for its very high budget and constant delays, and the fact that it was made by the man who has made Mega Man games for nearly 20 years.
The fact that the Wii U version is somehow the worst version, really shows they didn't care, they got the dev kits, they should've known what would work and what wouldn't so they could've released all versions with no faults.

Some of the powers were useful instead of 1 or none throughout the game so don't believe the myth that only 3 were useful because there was so many more, weapon energy has recovery and isn't hard to lose to encourage actually using it. Enemies are decently varied and entertaining to go up against, spawning directly on top of MN9 was not. Ducking is automatic in hazardous areas, except one? A mixed bag, but absolutely leaning on positive!

    It's a nice game, but I wouldn't recommend the Wii U version.

I'll still give it a 10/10, but that's because I feel like that it's very underrated (Especially this version).

It's just Mediocre. The 360/Wii U/PS3 versions don't look that great and the default button mapping is pretty lazy once you realize it's pretty much mapped the same way as how it would be on a 360 controller (i.e the OK button is "B") The cut scenes are cheap and the Voice acting is just as cheap. Stay away from the Wii U version.

it's a bit disappointing that this game is not as fast or as fun the way I was hoping for

Mighty No. 9 is a game you don’t want to continue playing. It tries to ride on the wave of Mega Man nostalgia without understanding why people love Mega Man. [Sept 2016]

My fingers are crossed that Comcept gets their act together and can create a sequel that is the Mega Man 2 to this underwhelming original. [Issue #23 – September/October 2016, p.68]

Mighty No. 9 created very high expectations and could have reached a perfect formula for success but as it is, it failed to capture Mega Man's essence and doesn't build up on what its inspiration did best.
