This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The time has come for a new Zelda game, and Nintendo hit it out of the park with this one. Breath of the Wild will always be the Wii U's Zelda, and now the switch has one to call it's own. I have only done one dungeon so far, (Wind Temple) and it was similar to a divine beast but it had more of the dungeon feel we were hoping for. The boss was also better than just another blight. To see how villages have changed and how people are rebuilding after the events of Breath of The Wild is pretty cool, and also how some have fallen into despair. The new abilities that replace the Shekia slate are all good, some allow you to build vehicles and weapons, one is similar to stasis, and one lets you travel upwards. The shrine system carries over, but there are less shrines than in Botw (I think)

The story is great, and has me wanting to find more parts of it. I've been playing it constantly. My one complaint is that this game pushes the switch to it's max. I have a V2 switch and it can be a little laggy when you make a huge contraption with ultra hand. This has in no way affected how fun the game is though. And in conclusion, if you liked Breath of the Wild, you'll love this game. If you didn't like or didn't play Botw, it's probably not gonna be as fun for you. The dungeons are more traditional, but it's still a massive open world game that kinda relies on the player to know what they're doing.

I loved BotW but this game is making BotW looking like a tech demo. I never saw so much creativity and so much wonder in a video game. The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is one of the best games I've ever played and might be my pick for the game of the decade 2021-2030.

    Un jeu exceptionnel.
Toutes les petites imperfections de Breath of the Wild ont disparu.
    Les nouveaux pouvoirs sont géniaux.

Previously, there were only 2 other games that I couldn't stop discovering, DOS2 and Elden Ring, but the feeling of playing Zelda: TOTK is still a great experience. This is my first time playing a Zelda game, I haven't even played Zelda: BOTW. I should have experienced Zelda sooner.

As per nintendo's tradition for the past 20 years, it's the same old same old. If you liked BoTW then you'll like this. On the other hand if you think that Zelda series have always been boring and there are much better games out there in the same genre, then you'd most like not really get the hype like me.

And to think I was looking forward to this... A huge failure of a game on every conceivable level. A huge failure of a game on every conceivable level. The first issue is immediately obvious: the game is hideous, in fact it looks worse than Wind Waker and yet never goes above 20fps (with frequent spikes in the single digits). Not that the "graphics" are the only issue, the art direction might be the worst I've seen in a Nintento title to date, second only to BotW. Second is the absolutely terrible story that is a slap in the face of any self-respecting LoZ fan. I won't spoil what happens but I was gobsmacked at the contempt the writers are showing for their fans (who will probably happily take it and beg for more, as is the nature of Nintento fans). Third is the gameplay: hilarious to see the same people who (rightly) criticize Ubisoft and EA's boring "open world" make-work trash celebrate BoTW and TotK, games that are even more bland and tedious and in fact go out of their way to be as dull and repetitive as possible. And finally: if you aren't going to let me play as Zelda then don't put her in the title of your game, to do otherwise is deceptive advertising which, by the way, is illegal. Expand

Expand

Tears of the kingdom, more like tear in my eyes when I play this... Gottem (True though, its not a very fun game, it is quite boring and the game has terrible framerate 3/4 of the time felt the game was empty alot of the time despite open world and the puzzles were mediocre at best. I miss the old Zelda games when they were actually fun to play)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Quests will often send you on a wild goose chase to a part of the map you haven't reached yet, functionality that seems very important to the core gameplay experience is hidden away behind optional side missions, and after so long it feels like the overworld has shrank thanks to the new methods of transportation.

These sacrifices however, morph the gameplay experience into a slightly-less open one that continues to surprise you. You will be travelling more often to complete missions, but damn is the journey more fun than ever.

Everything feels slightly faster for your convenience, even the teleportation transition and the shrines no longer prompt you with an introductory text each time. Even the "fade out" animation when you skip a skippable cutscene FEELS faster. The care put into this game is immense. And it shows.

This one is not only going to be game of the year, but it will easily become a game to be remembered for generations to come. It puts other titles to shame with how brilliantly it implements creative mechanics, and I hope everyone can learn from its soul.

I've never been able to compare any other Zelda game to the confusion and originality I found in Zelda II until this point. And if that was all it is, I'd be cool, but man, oh man, you just gotta play it.

This is why we play video games. This is the sort of game you wait 6 years for and go into with every single expectation hanging on a thread and you're willing to risk it all because if it's dog **** man, then **** all the haters. Honestly, if anything I'd class TotK as the embodiment of bad modern gaming. The new abilities are useful and incorporated into both shrines and the overworld in clever ways, with ascend and recall along with all the wacky contraptions adding new dimensions to traversal. Nintendo has very much taken the sandbox element present in the previous game cranked it up to 11.

If you liked Breath of the Wild, this game is for you. As for the price, the sheer scope of Tears warrants $70.

From the moment you step into the fantastical world of Hyrule, you are greeted with lush landscapes, intricate details, and vibrant colors. The developers have truly pushed the boundaries of what is visually possible, immersing players in a breathtaking realm filled with magic and wonder.

The gameplay mechanics in "Zelda Tears of the Kingdom" remain true to the series' roots while introducing new elements that add freshness to the experience. Exploring dungeons, solving puzzles, and engaging in intense combat all feel intuitive and satisfying. The controls are responsive, allowing for precise movements and actions, which is crucial in a game that requires both finesse and strategy.

One of the standout features of this installment is its captivating storyline. "Zelda Tears of the Kingdom" weaves a tale of heroism, sacrifice, and redemption that keeps players hooked from start to finish. The characters are well-developed and memorable, each with their own motivations and personalities. As you progress through the game, you become emotionally invested in their journey, eagerly anticipating the next plot twist or revelation.

The world design deserves special praise. Hyrule has been meticulously crafted, featuring diverse environments that range from tranquil forests to treacherous mountains. Each region has its own distinct flavor and secrets waiting to be discovered. The open-world aspect of the game allows for exploration at your own pace, ensuring that every corner of the kingdom is filled with surprises and hidden treasures.

Additionally, the musical score is simply mesmerizing. The soundtrack evokes a sense of adventure and nostalgia, perfectly complementing the gameplay and enhancing the overall immersive experience. From epic orchestral compositions during climactic battles to serene melodies that accompany serene moments, the music becomes an integral part of the game's soul.

While "Zelda Tears of the Kingdom" is undeniably a remarkable addition to the series, it's not without a few minor flaws. Some players may find certain sections of the game to be challenging, potentially leading to frustration. Additionally, the pacing could have been tightened in certain areas, as there are moments when the game feels slightly dragged out.

In conclusion, "Zelda Tears of the Kingdom" is a triumph for fans and newcomers alike. With its awe-inspiring graphics, engaging gameplay, compelling narrative, and unforgettable world, it cements itself as a standout entry in The Legend of Zelda series. Despite a few minor hiccups, the game delivers an unforgettable adventure that will leave players yearning for more.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom takes all of what we love in Breath of the Wild and build upon it. Better mechanics. Better world-building. Better traversability. And WAYYY more. It’s everything that I could’ve asked for and is sure to satisfy my LoZ itch for years to come!

Super rough start except for some cool moments. that initial sky area does NO service to the rest of the game. I had so many frame rate issues there and jumping out into the island after the title plays was just embarrassing for the switch frankly. really glad it improved after that A LOT. seemed that once i left that area the frame rate and visuals improved to a standard I am happy to look at. gameplay is great 90% of the time when your free of that evil island. after much play I am willing to sacrifice that first area and say it is far better than breath of the wild so far but could be improved drastically in many ways and doesn't feel quite as "thought out" as BOTW did but is better none the less through quality of life features if nothing else. It is a great game but that makes the bad things REALLY stand out because most of it is a real masterclass in exploration. For example: i gotta say it. The depths are really boring... such a shame I really enjoy my time with the game but I'm spending most of my time on the surface or the sky cause every time i go down there i feel none of the joy of exploring. what over there? dunno. can't see it. lacks all of the "oooh what's that" that the surface and sky have. feels barren probably intentionally but that doesn't mean that it isn't deathly boring down there. I cannot emphasise enough that the land and sky are as great to explore as ever though once you are let loose. so much to do and try. I've done a lot of side adventures/quests too and they have all been fun and and worth playing.
story wise I think it's more interesting than the first game so far. I like time travel stuff but all the dialogue is like they got the janitor to write it. I think the voice acting is uhhhh not the type I enjoy? anyway I just don't vibe with it i don't really know what you'd call this style of voice acting but the script 100% didn't help anyone. very much personal preference stuff and I think i would have been far more willing to overlook it if the script was better.

basically it's better breath of the wild but it has problems that stick out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the games excellence. Will be much better if they make an enhanced version at 60fps on "Switch 2" and improve the depths with dlc or something.

Hey Mr Nintendo add in proper ocean swimming and exploration next time? hmm? for me?

I can't believe the Switch can run such a game like this while looking beautiful! The only flaw I have isn't even with the gameplay, it's just the Soundtrack. I would love to hear more arrangements and remixes of songs from past Zelda games. Would definitely recommend for people who love's Open World games and for all the Nintendo/TLOZ Fans!!

My biggest complaint is that the tutorial is a little longer than I wanted, but not that big of a deal once you get past it. The only other issue is that there are some points where the frame rate drops, but it is rather rare and in no way makes the game unplayable. Despite some performance problems, the gameplay is still very smooth. All in all, it is better than BotW so far, and that is a high bar. Definitely worth the $70! Expand

I went thought this was just going to glorified DLC. The final trailer gave me a but of hope. The game is anything BUT that. Its phenomenal, and I've been enjoying every second.

The world feels so new, I'm even getting lost. Major landmarks are familiar, but that's how it is for most Zelda games. The same major areas such as the volcano, zoras domain, forest, etc.

Game looks like Wii one or Cube is disrespectful to studios that strive to make games really awesome, they took the easy way out to do the same, no real innovation just fan service. Someone should demand that Nintendo sacrifice a little more out of respect for technological advances, 60fps 4K, games with current techniques, not hackneyed formulas.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yo seriously y'all, the building the cool little contraptions is fun but they're selling us BoTW with a new coat of paint here. Everything that's new like the caves and the sky Islands and even the depths get tedious maybe a few hours in after you realize these locations follow the exact same formula every time you dive in.

Caves and wells have a stalnox or another boss enemy in them, sometimes a shrine, and a Bubbul gem. Exact same setup every time.

In the sky Islands, you either fight a Zonai guy, go get a crystal or do a jumping challenge. There's no sky cities, there's nothing really happening up there.

The depths are the funnest to explore, until you realize there's not much down there. You're only really going to end up down there if you're farming Poes and Zonaite.

With the exception of like 4 armor sets, EVERY ARMOR SET HAS BEEN RECYCLED FROM THE FIRST GAME. Even the ugly ass Gordon armor. This was ultimately what made me want to drop the game before I finished it. Even Dark Souls reuses some of it's maps, but at least they throw us a bone and give us new equipment to get excited about.

The weapons all look like **** now. You found a cool sword? Too bad it's tarnished and you're gonna have to fuse it with a **** huge boko bat to do anything with it anyway.

And yeah, the weapons still break. The story is pretty braindead, I won't spoil it but it follows a pretty similar formula.

There is no new game plus, you beat Ganon and you're back to your last save.

There's only one new settlement to visit, no new towns or cities to explore. They slapped some environment changes into some of the existing towns to make them seem "fresh" but there's really no new services or interesting NPCs in any of them.

Horses function almost exactly the same. Same equipment, same customization. You can buff their skills, which is nice, but that's it. You still can't register any of the wacky mount types like Satori, the Skeletal Horses or the deer at the stable.

They removed the Amiibo functionality from the Wolf-Link Amiibo for seemingly no reason. I suppose you can get the sages to fill a similar role but I don't get why that was removed.

You're going to be spending most of your time in the menus fusing stuff while fighting enemies, which can get tedious fast. The dungeons are a bit bit more creative than the Divine Beasts, but not by much.

If you were a big fan of the master cycle, that's gone now. You could technically build a motorbike with the ultrahand ability but it'll look like crap in comparison.

The Zonai shrines are asset flips of the original Sheikah shrines, and just as boring and tedious. They don't even explain where the Sheikah **** went.

Koroks haven't changed much, some of them are a little bit more creative and employ you to use your contraptions, but at the end of the day it's just filler.

All of the music and sound effects are exactly the same from the first game. They have added some new sound effects for the Zonai stuff.

The Zonai stuff has an arbitrary distance counter before the components poof out of existence, doesn't matter how much upgrading you do 400 hours in, no fun allowed with papa Nintendo

The into sequence layout exactly follows that of the first game (Ghost man guides you through the tutorial and then disappears)

Enemy variety is still lacking. You have Lynels, Talus, Hinox, etc. There's a few new enemies but they generally have been created to fill out the new locations (caves, sky Islands, the depths, etc)

The only pros I can count are:
    - It runs quite a bit better than BoTW
    - All Amiibo items are now found organically in game (but again, copy pasted assets)
    - You don't have to drop **** before opening a chest now if you want to swap the contents with something you already have

Anyway I can go on, but man, after playing ToTK to completion the only thing that I'm left thinking is "what the **** has Nintendo been doing the past 6 years"? The sound design team hasn't done **** the animators and modelers have had to make minimal changes to everything short of reskinning a couple of assets, literally 90% of the map is unchanged. The whole game feels like a mod. What in the fresh hell took so long to pump this out? Seriously, this must be the ultimate attempt to try and justify to their shareholders that they can re-make a game with a reduced development crew and still make a fortune off it.
