Huge improvement over the first game. Wish there were more planets to explore, but the combat is fun and story is alright.

The game is very fun. I mostly appreciate that they started you out with the abilities you had to work through the previous game to get. The combat is improved from last game and I appreciated the new addition of lightsaber forms. Overall, highly recommend.

The game and story are great but I can’t with good conscience rate this game any higher than a 2 because it’s broken. EA had no business to release the game in this state, they should’ve delayed it because it obviously needed more time to be polished. As gamers we need to start demanding complete games upon release, we vote with our wallets and all of us need to stop buying broken games.

As of now, I don’t recommend this game to anyone playing on PS5. The frame rate (mostly at or below 50 FPS in a blurry looking 1080p) is still unacceptable for an AAA title on such a capable hardware. Buyers beware.

There is an amazing game hidden underneath a gigantic pile of bugs and performance issues. I'd recommend checking back in about a year before buying it, or you will not have the intended experience.

Edit: Patch 6 came out after a month of radio silence, and it only seems to have made things worse. Lowering the rating to reflect that. Please don't buy the game until at least 2024.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Jedi Fallen Order was a good game with certain issues but Jedi Survivor fails as a 'next gen' game. Planets are bigger but duller. Their design is not as good and memorable as in Fallen Order, not to mention there are only 2 planets in Survivor but 5 in FO.

The slow ability is removed from the game and replaced with boring mind control (temporary alignment change of hostile AI to friendly). The slow is not used in puzzles and is only available in combat by activating the 'super meter' (basically cuckrage mode from GoW). Survivor introduces 3 new stances (5 in total) but only 2 can be equipped at the same time for some retarded reason. You can switch stances at mediation (save) points but hairstyle can be changed in the pause menu immediately, smh. The story is just a huge sequel bait and is based on nonsensical, lame circumstances (the protagonist falls into an ancient tomb containing long lost knowledge while going for a spare part in the basement — literally). Survivor introduces close to no new major characters, mostly antagonists (they all die, unsurprisingly), new good-guys characters all die in the prologue and are replaced with old characters.
Additionally, a very awkward, pushed and out of nothing romance is incorporated into the story. The devs decided to have a character, Merrin, go full blown edgy and deep 'Russkij akcent' that is so phonyaß and tryharded and unnatural as фак. It was much milder in FO and now my ears bleed from cringe.

Lastly, the game is technically in an abysmal state. Frames drop below 10 during lightsaber cutscenes, the game drops below 20 fps in large areas (even on performance mode), hardlocks, softlocks, crashes are common even 2 months post initial release.

Fallen Order wasn't perfect, it had performance issues as well (loading textures) but it had far better designed worlds and the story was built coherently, characters were utilized better.

Jedi Survivor is similar to Horizon Forbidden West with its story - unrelated to the prequel, based on nonsense, mary-sue character saving the world, pointless characters, heavy sequel baiting; and to A Plague Tale Requiem with its 'cinematic experience' gameplay and performance issues.
While Survivor may not be as disappointing for me as these two games, it's technically in an unpresentable state right now.

The map system is worthless and there is no minimap or indicators onscreen during gameplay - I couldn’t find more than a handful of optional quests since it’s extremely hard to find your way around. Worlds are mostly empty and it is rare to find useful loot. The stance system is silly and only a couple stances are worth using at all. The story doesn't make a lot of sense, but maybe it's because I didn't play the previous game. I've considered just deleting the game from my hard drive, but I keep hoping maybe the game will grow on me at some point.

It's not a good feeling to load up a game, and then five minutes in, I'm already debating on whether I want to spend anymore time playing it.

Maybe you just have to be a huge Star Wars fan to appreciate the game. It isn't doing it for me, however.,

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I was rating this game based on characters, story and settings alone, it would probably get at least an eight.

Unfortunately, the poorly implemented combat system ruins the immersion that STORY mode would otherwise give the player.

Respawn broke practically every cardinal rule for engaging combat in this design and the end result is a grueling, repetitious grind with little reward.

    1. Don't interrupt the rhythm and flow of combat with cutscenes. We know why we are fighting... no further exposition is required. All it does is drag the player out of immersion and interrupt their gameplay.

    2. If you do decide to interrupt combat with cutscenes, at least have the courtesy to keep the enemy target locked at the end of the cutscene. They were locked on when the player went into it... why do you keep disengaging lock after the cutscene? To give the opponent a few extra hits while the player waits for the abysmally slow response to input?

    3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Jedi Fallen Order combat was fine. The parry system in Survivor might have been an acceptable change if it weren't so poorly implemented. When you combine the parry system with the erratic camera and the random target lock loss, it's just a horrible mechanic.

    4. In the end game, after the player has mastered every force power, stance, and purchased every perk, why are they still the weakest jedi that has ever existed? What exactly is the payoff for all the work the player puts into gaining these abilities if they are so weak that they are practically useless? Why does every single jedi in the game, even one who was in the same circumstances as your character, possess grand master level force abilities? Literally the only opponents you can willfully crush are stormtroopers... you know, the same ones you were crushing at the beginning of the game. There is practically no reason to gain skills because they hardly give the player any advantage at all.

    5. Where are the player's area of effect force powers? Why does every single boss fight have AoE, but at no point in the game does the player have the opportunity to earn similar or at least competing powers? Why is the combat designed to punish the player not for choices they make, but for choices they don't even have?

    6. Unblockable attacks. Sure, why not? Spamming unblockable attacks with follow-on melee attacks at twice the combat speed of the player... no. It is not fun in any way.

    7. Unblockable arena-crossing magnetic attacks. What is the purpose of dodging when every single dodge has to be timed to perfection to evade a crushing amount of damage? In the end, the player simply becomes a damage sponge who circles their opponent trying to dodge or parry in the hopes that they might get a few shots in every few minutes or so. Rather like whittling wood... except the player isn't playing a wood whittling game, they are playing a Star Wars game as a Jedi.

I was really looking forward to this game, but from the get-go the combat was just so sub-par in implementation that at no point did I feel like a jedi. Boss fights were so repetitious and frustrating that at the end, I felt absolutely no sense of accomplishment... just the huge relief that I could get past that and on to the next part of the story, finish the game and uninstall it without looking back.

    3. Gameplay: 80% of the game is Lara Croft style empty dungeon exploration. Other 20% it tries to be Sekiro, but fails. Fighting feels great in duels, but when there are multiple enemies it’s just bad. Game punishes you for everything, blocking invincibility windows and strange(because of the delay between blocks), enemies spam unblockable attacks and unlike souls games those are the same basic attack animations just with red light. Same goes for droids, sometimes they flash red lasers for unblockables, other times do the same for regular attacks.
Play forming part is a big joke. You can run walls, but only the highlighted ones. You have a grapple hook, but it works only for specific points. Sometimes it gets ridiculous even for a Jedi game - you push yourself from a wall and force push yourself back in it 5 times in a row to go up. After middle of the game most of the time you do double jump + force dash through power field which allows you to double jump and force push again. Just give him a jet pack.
    4) Voice acting: it was great for everybody except Merin. Only in English she sounds like a fan made voice acting, dull and uninspired. Even worse than Ada in RE4 remake.
Good parts: Some boss duels and first 3 hours of the game feel interesting, then it just becomes repetitive and silly.

    Combat:
The combat feels a lot less fluid than the original game due to the fact the game spams a lot of various mobs, each enemy type seems to have an un-blockable attack and you can't interrupt your current action to block. The result is your left feeling more like a punching bag than a jedi. Parrying is also made awkward due to the frequent FPS drops.

    Story:
Not much to be said here, it's fairly bland, the twists and turns are easy to predict, and some decisions and actions my characters are utterly non-sensical.

    Customization:
There's definitely improvement here, no more ponchos and a little more to choose from. Still, not quite as diverse a selection as it could be.

    Presentation and level design:
Levels look good, you seem to spend the bulk of your time on the same planet, and that planet is chocked full of tedious busywork which gets boring fast. Some of the platforming sections are extremely frustrating and quite badly designed. For the most part though the platforming is the better part of the game.

I also find the story a bit stretched and the difficulty of the bosses seems arbitrary and not well balanced. Particularly at the end, the fights become too Souls-like, which I would have chosen if I liked it, but I don't and so it's unfortunately a bit annoying.

I find it unbelievable, that they're charging individuals 70£ for this and it's filled with game breaking bugs and bad performance issues. Performance mode doesn't even perform at 60FPS and has tons of stutter throughout the game. This in turns prevents focus during the action and has input delay. There is also a game breaking bug in regards to doing bounties. An important progression system that has cosmetics and weapons cosmetics tied to them, along with a currency system. This bug didn't even allow me to start the quest and tackle the necessary targets. It's a huge shame, because Jedi Survivor has the makings of a great saga, but all of thes issues kill any sense of enjoyment whatsoever. I beat the story, but I immediately dropped it straight after, because I do not believe my money was worth all the nonsense I went through.

PLEASE do not buy this game guys. I am not saying it is bad, because it isn't, but EA and Respawn practically got away with our money and gave us a half baked product. WAIT FOR A YEAR, before you buy it. There are far more promising titles coming from trust worthy devs that will do right by their fans. Unfortunately, I will not buying anything from Respawn day one again. In fact, I know they've lost alot of costumers and future ones too, because of their incompetence. You've been warned. Don't believe? Just check out all the videos on YouTube and the EA forums. Everyone is going nuts lol

So poorly optimized. The stuttering and frame drops make the graphics look early ps3. The graphics look like an oil painting with fuzzy edges. I stopped playing after about 3 hours because I want to wait until the game is fixed so I can enjoy it properly.

Technically a mess ; frame rate drops, crashes when launching, crashes when loading, saves corrupt causing crashes (meaning you might have to start the game again). Utterly unacceptable for the price.
The game doesn't feel like a jedi game ; it offers more yet without feeling like being a jedi. I hate you have to wait until the end of the game to open or unlock pathways. Same for jedi

Same for jedi powers which you don't get (even though you had them in the previous game. ) Force powers down seem as powerful as they should.
Pointless running and jumping, sliding and wall running which we've all seen jedi do. Oh wait, no we haven't . Did the game designers even look at previous star wars sources before designing this bland world.
The main villians are 'meh' , pointless, toothless and instantly forgettable. Monsters don't seem like star wars creatures with the exception of the rancor and wompa tyle creature.
THIS GAME IS NOT FUN!!! Game's aren't meant to be fun any more, just as they are not meant to work on launch anymore. It doesn't feel like a star wars setting. Aliens never seen before. Jedi with blasters, the great lightsaber **eye rolls** oh ffs.

Improves upon the original in almost every way. More engaging gameplay, captivating story, and mostly beautiful graphics. Only problem with the graphics are a weird dithering effect that's present even in fidelity mode. Patches have improved the performance but there are still some drops every once in a while. Highly recommend.

He has one arm and uses the force I guess to make a fake arm? Like that’s just now a thing.. just randomly there 3 times and then poof! And Bode is even worse. Instantly knew he was either there to die in the beginning to give weight to some story beat, or he’d end up being some villain who betrays you.. when you have a character who is there from the beginning and you’re forced to blindly trust him you know he’s up to something. Also he has a very bland character design so you know he’s there for some random bland purpose. Bad story, boring characters and terrible canned Janky animations that you can’t cancel mid frame..and a buggy mess Expand

Update - after playing the game way more on the second most difficult, this game is incredible. Reminds me of old console days where frame rate didn’t matter and it was all about good games.
In saying that, the frame rate seems to improve as you make progress in the game, even in open areas. The resolution and textures are still bad on the micro but when you’re playing the game and switch off the fine detail critical eye, it does look pretty amazing.
In saying ‘that’, gameplay and story are absolutely incredible. I hope this developer signs an exclusivity deal with Sony moving forward as this was their last game under their current contract. Wth Sony they’d be given the time and space to finish the game before it’s released and finish the series with a game the series and developers deserve. A true masterpiece, which is what the first 2 nearly are !!!

This game could have been a 10/10. The souls-like combat on the hardest difficulty is challenging and satisfying. The customization is neat and the open worlds are fun to explore. I find myself playing it for hours every night - looking for hidden secrets, talking to cool characters, and enjoying the scenery.
Sadly, the game is currently broken. Everyone has already talked about the performance issues, and they definitely get in the way of fully enjoying this experience. Performance mode somehow performs worse than Quality mode, so I'm unfortunately stuck playing it at 30 fps which is sad for the PS5. The platforming can also be a bit wonky which makes certain traversals really frustrating. I want to love this game. I want it to be my favorite game of the year. I want it to be the game I know it can be. If their patches fix the performance issues and more importantly, MAKE ONE OF THE BIGGEST COMPONENTS OF THE GAME WORK AGAIN, I will hopefully be able to give it a higher score. Pleas fix this game.

Having said that, I am honestly a little blown away by this game. I'm a gamer in my 30s, and quit more games than I finish because there just aren't that many anymore that really, really float my boat. Games in recent memory that I got truly hooked on were Elden Ring, Hollow Knight and Cuphead. I considered Fallen Order to be mediocre in many ways. This game improves on Fallen Order in every conceivable way. I have hardly a negative thing to say about it apart from the fact that performance is not great. A month later, texture pop-in, some minor screen tearing and performance drops are a fact of life. Presentation-wise, the game somewhat pales in comparison to the likes of God of War: Ragnarok. However, there are some truly visually stunning moments as well.

Gameplay here is freaking awesome, and despite being a somewhat narrative heavy game, this is a game you truly play. Guardians of the Galaxy, this is not. I have played most of the game dual-wielding on Jedi Master difficulty. Grandmaster would be doable. I'm not having much difficulty. I play this game very similarly to Sekiro, with attack rebound to R1. It's a rhythmic dance of parry, attack and doge, with some telekinesis thrown in. It's consistently satisfying, despite enemies offering up no loot. Movement is fun and free feeling, hugely improved over Fallen Order.

The homeworld of Koboh and the way that it opens up as the game progresses ought to satisfy any Souls or Metroidvania fan. Worldbuilding is clever with characters you encounter in the wild who will then return to a saloon which is satisfying to watch as it grows. Sense of place and player impact on the world is significant and satisfying. The map is much more useful this time around and the lack of a compass, minimap or icons keeps the sense of exploration feeling organic.

Characters and voice-acting are genuinely really good here. The script is good too. Not just by videogame standards. There are emotionally affecting moments, and organically funny stuff throughout. There is a literally a character names Skoova Stev, and it's genuinely fun and not an eyeroll.

I'm giving this game a 9, because I would still love to see some actual gear and a bit more player customizability in the next installment. This game is really fantastic. i hope that they can release the next one with more polish.

Fights are silly. It's mostly parry-and-dodge-until-you-can-land-a-hit. Sometimes though your dodges will not work.
The story is childish and a lot of dialogues make me think I'm playing a six year old being praised for no reason. Being an adult, if feels insulting.
Graphically, it's OK when it doesn't glitch and the music is OK. That' s the reason I'm giving it a 3 and not a 1.

While that sucks, the worst part is that since then the entire game has been unstable, popping up invisible walls out of nowhere and flickering throughout the entire geometry to the point I am unsure that my save will not just end up in an even more broken mess. I refuse to start this game over at this point, so it has been a waste of money, and I'd suggest for other people to wait a good while to buy this so that bugs can further be fixed.

Even with this asterisk – and I can’t stress enough how significant it is – Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a must-play experience for fans of the first game. It doesn’t rewrite the rules so much as massively build upon, improve and expand on the formula in numerous ways. It offers a human story about home, family and moving on while presenting a likeable cast and memorable locations.

Where the series goes from here is anyone’s guess. I’m not just excited for what’s next, but keen to return and immerse myself in Jedi: Survivor’s worlds even further.

The last game I liked was “X-Wing versus Tie Fighter”…. anyway, the game has you climbing walls and grappling like spider-man everywhere. There is wall running similar to Titanfall but in the 3rd person. Honestly the parkour and wall climbing stuff is kind of old, and beyond that you’re just slashing away with your lightsaber. The Force abilities are “meh”. If you’re a big Star Wars kid you’ll like this, but otherwise IT IS EXTREMELY OVERRATED, even with all the bugs fixed! As players embark on their journey, they encounter diverse characters, face moral dilemmas, and uncover the secrets of their past. The narrative is filled with tension, suspense, and moments of hope, drawing players into a gripping tale of survival against all odds.

The gameplay mechanics in Jedi Survivor offer a mix of intense combat and strategic decision-making. Players engage in lightsaber duels, utilizing a satisfying combat system that captures the elegance and power of wielding a lightsaber. The Force abilities add an extra layer of depth, allowing players to employ telekinesis, Force pushes, and more. The game also incorporates stealth and exploration elements, providing opportunities for players to navigate environments, solve puzzles, and make strategic choices that impact the outcome of the story.

Visually, Jedi Survivor impresses with its attention to detail and stunning environments. From sprawling urban landscapes to treacherous alien worlds, the game's graphics bring the Star Wars universe to life in vivid detail. The character models, including the Jedi protagonist and iconic Star Wars creatures, are beautifully rendered, immersing players in a visually stunning and authentic experience.

The game's soundtrack is another standout aspect, capturing the epic and emotional tones synonymous with the Star Wars franchise. The familiar melodies, along with original compositions, enhance the immersive nature of the gameplay, transporting players into the heart of the Star Wars universe.

While Jedi Survivor excels in many areas, it does have a few minor drawbacks. The game's pacing can sometimes feel uneven, with certain story beats feeling rushed or underdeveloped. Additionally, some players may find the combat mechanics to be slightly repetitive after prolonged play. However, these minor flaws do not significantly detract from the overall enjoyment and immersion offered by the game.

In conclusion, Jedi Survivor provides an enthralling and immersive experience for Star Wars fans and gamers alike. With its compelling narrative, engaging gameplay mechanics, and visually stunning presentation, the game offers a fresh perspective on the aftermath of Order 66 and the indomitable spirit of the Jedi. Despite a few minor shortcomings, Jedi Survivor successfully captures the essence of the Star Wars universe and delivers an exciting journey of resilience and redemption. May the Force be with you as you embark on this thrilling adventure

Jedi Survivor is better in every way than Fallen Order. There are vast improvements in terms of story, characters, sound design, visuals and customization . The lightsaber combaat and boss battles are amazing. I actually liked Cal this time. And I only had one brief glitch in my 50+ hour playthrough./ don’t listen to the haters

Wishing the game ran a lot better, definitely would be a 9 from me if they had it running and looking a lot better. But that did not hold back my enjoyment. Some great easter eggs for myself as a Star Wars fans.
Definitely recommend for enjoyers of Fallen Order or Star Wars fans in general who enjoy adventure games.
Does not remind me of a "souls game" at all, however this has no bearing on my score, I did not play it for it to be "souls-like".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Performance issues aside (yes even the ps5 version has consistent massive frame drops on quality mode), the story and combat were extremely lackluster, we get new characters with little to no development, a bad guy that was so forgettable I can't remember his name off the top of my head even though I just finished the main story 10 minutes ago (dago something?), and combat that feels very empty once you get the hang of just mashing square to break poise, dodging if the enemy turns red and blocking if they try a regular or ranged attack. Beyond the mediocre story and combat the level design is just so uninspired, yes there are really cool visuals and some parkour sequences that are enjoyable but otherwise it's just the same double jumping into dash with some climbing, wall running and hookshotting sprinkled in. Most of the shortcuts feel completely unnecessary, you will often get a shortcut and wonder why it was even needed at all, my guess is that this is mostly for people trying to get all the collectibles, but these weren't that appealing to me anyways. You will often pass by certain doors or objects that are unreachable until an ability is unlocked later on in the game (similar to GOW/GOW: Ragnatok in recent years), but the drive to return to these spots completely dies out once you realize it's all just for uninspired cosmetic items that do nothing to enhance gameplay in any way. The only cool items in my opinion were a few of the outfits and the lightsaber modifications, but most of the time you just ended up with a new colour pallette that you'll never use. Can't recommend this game, even if they do improve the performance. Do better please. Expand

Putting the bugs aside, I honestly hoped for more from this game. I liked the first game when it came out, but it has little replayable value to me, because of the many mundane level designs.

And many of the skills and powers should absolutely not be locked behind skill-tree and story-flashbacks, come on... Force-slam/lift and a couple of combos wasnt possible for Cal from the start?? And the story and too many of the characters are not that engaging either in my book...
Some of the planets are cool with great designs, and Cal, BD, Greez (+ his bar) and Merrin are great!

Character Customization/Appearance: 8 ⚠️  Spoiler ⚠️ Cons: For the cons I have to say one thing. There isn't too many but some are serious however. Starting with the first con. The game on the PS5 version is getting fps drops here and there. I looked it up and apparently it isn't only for the PS5, but also on the Xbox. The fps drops aren't a big deal for me but I just wanted to let everyone know. The second con has to be the lack of customization when it comes to headgear. Unfortunately there's no cool masks or helmets in the game that you can wear and yes I am aware that it isn't common for Jedi's to wear helmets or wear masks. But they usually wear hoods...which is another thing the game does not Include, in my opinion this is such a bummer since it would've looked really cool wearing a hood. Last thing has to be the fact that there isn't that many good looking outfits. I'm just gonna say that this is a minor con and more of a personal opinion, there's the Jedi robes, Wanderer set and the Commander Set that I actually like. Again, this is just a personal opinion and I wish they will add more armor sets in the feature.

Pros: For the pros I must say that I am super thankful that we got the ability to customize Cal, to give him a beard and long hair definitely made me happy. There's many other Hairstyle and beards in the game to choose from. Another thing has to be the map improvement. The map displays a little marker on where you have to go. This was very helpful and made it so much easier not to get lost. Speaking of maps. Finally you have the ability to fast travel in the game! This is something I wished we had in Fallen Order. The pain of having to go through the map all over just to get back to the ship was so frustrating and so tedious. Gameplay wise one of the things I liked was the different kinds of stances the game offered. Last thing has to be the cutscenes, the cutscenes were **** amazing.
    -
Story: Starting off I must say Cal looks absolutely handsome, probably the beard I don't know but I really like it. In the story we got a grapple gun, it was nice and it made the traversal much better. Note that you can only use the grapple on specific spots. The game had alot of plot twists, one of them being that The Ninth Sister returned. She was in Fallen Order and we literally killed her....well so we thought. As we progress further into the game we get to meet Merrin again. She was in Fallen Order. The relationship that they share in Jedi Survivor is very sweet but I must say I do miss her old haircut. The further you get the more abilities you unlock such as dash and other force abilities, speaking of the force it was super fun to use in combos when fighting. Now for the actual story. We meet a guy name Bode. The plot twist with him being a Jedi was something else....I did not expect it and I hate him so much and like him at the same time..also the fight with Cere vs Darth Vader....holy **** that was sooo good. The ending of the game was very sad...and yeah. 10/10 I **** love this game and I'd definitely recommend it.

For a multi million dollar company, can they not afford a proper testing department? It is ridiculous that you can release a game worth $60-£70 these days in this kind of state - the amount of bugs, crashes, frame rate drops is shockingly bad. When these companies are in the testing development stage, why did no one flag these issues? Surely they can see them? 2 weeks and 5 patches later show how bad the game was and still in! People need to stop giving these developers this kind of praise for a broken game!

Unfortunately, it's still hard to call it a pleasant gaming experience, and if it weren't such a long-awaited sequel to a game that I deeply liked, I'd prefer to start playing it only a couple of months after.

The combat system, gameplay, size and detail of the world are impressive. Perhaps the only thing in these aspects that was a disappointment, it's a few planets.
Only one or two large and several small ones.
When you travel through this large area at the beginning of the game, you are sure that there will be many different, large, open territories as on this planet, but alas. In fact, this is our main place of action and all other places becomes smaller and smaller.

The other disappointing thing was the plot. It's fine, but it's catastrophically short.
Actually, you'll get really great action, plot twists, cinematic events and story advancement, but in the last 10% of the game.
Except for the first hours of a fairly good story set-up, 90% of the time you will have one single goal, the MacGuffin, the Sacred Land. Information, leads and clues about which you will search for the entire game.
I can’t say that it’s completely bad, because in the process we visit a lot of pretty locations, fight various enemies and, in general, enjoy good gameplay.
But the plot, as such, is simply on pause for most of the game and moves by a bit only occasionally and in the end.

The ending itself left mixed feelings because on the one hand it tries to be complete, but without any final statements, on the other hand it leaves an infinite amount of space for any possible number and type of sequels.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the new action adventure game from EA and Respawn (Titanfall, Apex Legends), is an action packed epic filled to the brim with fun new and existing characters that feel right at home in the greater star wars universe. Unfortunately, the game is plagued with almost too many visual bugs to count making the overall experience somewhat mixed.

Survivor picks up 5 years after the events of Fallen Order and we find Cal Kestis as a full on guerilla opposition agent working to undermine the empire. The previous crew of the Mantis has broken up and scattered across the galaxy, leaving Cal feel alone and lost in his struggle against the empire. The story is a very solid Star Wars tale with great characters, interesting twists, and an engaging story arc. Every character in the game feel unique and fleshed out with their own issues, backstories, and agendas.

The game play is similar to Fallen Order, with some new lightsaber stances and force powers mixed in. Overall, I found the combat to be a little too mashy and not as intricate as I would of preferred. I almost exclusively used the blaster stance, which features a lightsaber in one hand and blaster in the other, as it was very useful in picking off enemies at a distance. The platforming is frequent and works very smoothly. My main main issue with the platforming is that there is just too much of it, by the 800th wall run it just felt like a tack on to extend certain gameplay stretches.

My main issue with the actual gameplay is the greater exploration and side activities in the game. There are hundreds of nooks and crannies to explore, rare bosses to find, etc. The game has a real rewards issue for these side activities, they mostly just reward you with new cosmetics for Cal and BD-1. It just isn't very fun or logical for Cal to find a new sideburns haircut, for example, in a treasure chest on a long abandoned and unexplored area of a planet. The game tries to sprinkle in actual rewards like skill points and force meter upgrades but it feels like these happen maybe 5% of the time.

On to the graphical issues, which are so frequent I considered abandoning the game multiple times (I played on a PS5). Performance mode (60fps) features as much screen tearing as I have ever seen in a large Triple A game, you couldn't do a full 180 or 360 turn with Cal without popping and tearing. I tried to push through on this mode because of how muddied the game looks in the 30fps quality mode, but eventually finished the back half on this quality mode. The game looks pretty drab in this mode, the lightsaber colors don't pop, the action doesn't look as fluid, and my game crashed at least 3 times in this mode.

In totality, Survivor is still one of the better Star Wars game out there, and hopefully EA and the Respawn team are able to fix its performance issues in future updates.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a much bigger game than before, with plenty of new moves, collectibles and characters to discover. The size of its open-world maps means it also lacks some of the variety of its predecessor, but there is so much to see and do that you'll likely not care one jot. Perhaps the most impressive aspect is how well fleshed-out the adventure is - better even than many of the TV series and films on which it is based. This is a blockbuster in the truest sense.
