It's a solid game with a big open world to explore, good platforming experience, fast paced combat and puzzle solving. Puzzles are too easy though combat is pretty fun. the beginning of the game may be a bit slow to progress, anyway it's a good game. Far from perfect, but it's the good game Sonic deserved

Most fun ive had with a sonic game in a while, game definitely had issues (mainly the pop in and the occasional camera bugging out) and by no means was the gameplay perfect but was able to capture the speed and fun ive wanted in a 3d sonic game for years. the combat was enjoyable but kinda wish there was some more skill involved especially with the parry as you can just hold it down sameMost fun ive had with a sonic game in a while, game definitely had issues (mainly the pop in and the occasional camera bugging out) and by no means was the gameplay perfect but was able to capture the speed and fun ive wanted in a 3d sonic game for years. the combat was enjoyable but kinda wish there was some more skill involved especially with the parry as you can just hold it down same with certain moves especially projectile based ones where you could just spam them which felt cheap, enemy variation was nice especially the gaurdians which act as mini bosses scattered through out each zone. I didnt find cyberspace that bad as everyone was saying it was, only the occasional 2d level felt slow and just not nice to play but most of them were somewhat enjoyable, but if anything the peak of this game was its boss fights, these almost had me jumping out of my seat and along with the amazing soundtrack this game had especially during boss fights they just out. I feel like the story is lacking if you havent played or dont have a lot of knowledge of prior sonice games as it somewhat does rely on you to know some characters there history and even previous events for you to you to get that full experience but as someone who has that knowledge, the characters were represented in a way that just felt right and the story was nice especially for lore. The only thing id say about the ending and final boss is that it was somewhat anticlimactic especially compared to prior parts of the game and even other sonic final bosses but had some nice character moments and although not the best ending still felt satisfying. Overall one of the best sonic games to date, its best moments are amazing and its worst can feel slow and tedious. For sonic fans this is a must buy and would honestly give this a 9/10 but for casual gamers who arent too familiar with the series this game will feel more like a 7/10 Expand

This is my first ever review of a video game on a website so sorry if it isn't well structured.

    Open World Gameplay: (8/10)
Putting sonic in an open zone with the fastest boost mechanic in the series felt amazing! Similar to Spider-man on PS4 the movement never got stale and at times I'd just be running and exploring the game just for the fun of it! The movement felt amazing most of the time, there are slight hiccups like the 2D camera getting in the way, some structures sonic should be able to run up on just don't work but overall the movement is one of the best in the series. Sonic actually turns extremely well!
Though a little negative on the gameplay is that the structure of the gameplay did get repetitive and the quality of the islands got worse, the fourth island wasn't even an island in terms of exploration and looked familiar to Kronos & the last island just felt like an expanded Kronos, I was hoping with a snow island but oh well. But overall very good! The combat I was really shocked by, the combat is pretty good! Sonic has a vast skill-set & enemies that sonic faces all have different attack patterns and effective ways to beat them, overall the combat is definitely something to enjoy! The boss battles are AWESOME! Super sonic never felt so powerful before and the fact it's the same combat as the open zone but stronger, faster and even special interactable cutscenes makes it even better! Though I did wish the parrying in the combat was timed based in hard mode. Overall the gameplay is pretty good! A few things could make it the gameplay even better would be Momentum, Harder enemies, Health bar (You can barely die with rings), parrying being timed based, more to do in the open zone than collecting collectables (for a future sequel I hope!) Overall I'm a super fan for the open zone gameplay! Fishing is actually playable unlike SA1, good choice sonic team!

    Cyberspace Gameplay: (5/10)
I know this is a low score, but overall cyberspace wasn't as important as the open world since cyberspace acts like special stages to get the Chaos Emeralds. Cyberspace levels when compared to the prior games felt really off, sonic controls completely differently in cyberspace when compared to the open world and can't be customized (C'mon)! Sonic controls badly, the level design is just re-used assets from prior games besides the city stage, levels are extremely short and overall just isn't as good as Generations, Unleashed, Colors!

    Story: (6.5/10)
This might be one of the lower scores in terms of category but when it comes to frontiers story it is definitely headed to the right direction. The story has a more mature setting and theme which I'm all down for, a big improvement over forces laughable story. The best part in my opinion in the story were the characters interactions, Ian flynn does an amazing job of writing the dialogue and makes it feel so natural, the references were quite nice! But overall though the story is an improvement compare to forces and generations, when comparing the potential of the story compared to prior games Sonic Adventure 2 & Sonic & The Black Knights this story felt rushed, I feel with some extra time and some polishes the story could of been a much higher score. Near end of the story it felt really rushed, I was expecting a nice conclusion with all the characters, was actually interested in Sonic's cyber corruption and was wondering how he would go back to normal, but literally within the same cutscene Amy, Knuckles and Tails just enter inside him and fixes him? Didn't feel like their was tension to his cyber corruption even though it was building through the entire game, the outlines are there for a great story but felt flat for me. (Sonic team please just make Ian Flynn the main writer for the game, I think if he had more control aside from dialogue it would of been amazing!)

    Music: (9/10)
Sonic has never disappointed with their music, but this game's soundtrack is so good! "Undefeatable" is my current favorite. The open world music as calm instrumental music for each island, which definitely fits the story's mysterious theme, but when the boss's come expect rock and metal! Sadly no crush 40, the music still slaps and definitely worth a listen even outside playing the game.

    Conclusion:
Overall this is a step in the right direction and I would be lying to say Sonic in an open space isn't fun, It's EXTREMELY fun! Though not a perfect game, this formula with some revisions and add-ons could create an even better game! I hope sonic team doesn't drop this open zone formula, but adds more to the game to make it even better!

My main points to improve the game for a sequel would be:
    - Post-Game Content
    - Momentum (I know drop dash has it but talking about overall movement)
    - More content besides collecting collectables
    - Other playable characters with different gameplay

Overall this is a good leap forward for the franchise, thank you sonic team!

The open world is very fun to explore and is full of things to do. Sonic controls better in 3D than any of the more recent 3D titles. As for cyberspace; the 3D ones are mostly great, the 2D stages are alright. Overall the game is great but the cyberspace stages are a bit uninspired in terms of design and visuals.

Cyberspace physics were janky, and it took me a while to accept that many stages re-used old level design, but it was fun recognizing certain level layouts from Sonic's past. One thing I'd like to see in a potential follow-up to this game is replacing Cyberspace with more "levels in the open zone"- it's hard to understand what I"m describing if you haven't played the game. Though I still have a good amount of the game before I beat it, I've really enjoyed all of it so far, and I can't wait to see how Sonic Team takes what they've learned from this game to make something ven better. After all these trailers the gameplay is really great with a lot of abilities for sonic (fight, drop dash, air boost…) and this is something new for the franchise I appreciated that because it works.

Obviously there are many ennemies and bosses on the islands but I think you’ll have the same ennemies again and again it seem it will be kinda boring but you have different options to fight those ennemies.

The average popping is a negative point, we are in 2022 and this isn’t esthetic for the game and I feel like a lack of time for the sonic team.

The story is immersive and I found my sonic, this guy so cool and ready to help his friends no matter what, knuckles tails and Amy are fantastic i feel this link between the characters.

Now let’s talk about the cyberspace and… Im split.
We are tired of the same stages: Green Hill Chemical plant and sky sanctuary… okay it’s sonic memories BUT there are A LOT OF levels through the sonic games.
Like you have: Spagonia, Kingdom Valley, twinkle mountain, jungle (sonic adventure 2 stage) I can’t trust they didn’t think about that.
The gameplay is weird sonic seems like is so slow you don’t this feeling of soled through the cyberspace.
The animations is mediocre when sonic is on rails and ****
But In the same time I liked the cyberspace, I’m a sonic fan and these stages remind me these 3D games like unleashed and generation even if the gameplay isn’t good compared to unleashed/generation.

Super sonic ? Super sonic oh my god it was one of my favorite part, the titans are amazing and terrifying and versatile. Giganto raven and samouraï was amazing and the freedom for super sonic is amazing too not just boost through the ennemie and that’s all, hell nah you’ll fight the ennemies and find strategies to hit’em up.

To conclude sonic frontiers was a good game for me, he has his qualities like his defaults but it was really fun and immersive on all points.
I can’t wait the future of my favorite character.

The obstacle course that give you memory tokens at the end have no explanation to being there. 2. There is so much rail grinding. 3. First off I loved the open world I loved running around and getting mentally lost in it doing all the challenges and going through all the obstacles, loopty loops, springs and all that though I do get why some people like that I personally love it because that’s what sonics all about is going through all those obstacles and there’s a bunch of then to go through and explore. Now I’m not gonna get into spoilers but the last 2 islands were kinda disappointing and the 3rd island is probly the most annoying it’s just full of 2d sections that you HAVE to go through, you can’t escape from it I lost count on how many times I accidentally gone into a 2d section I already went through being forced to go through it again until I find an escape route, also the cyberspace levels…while they are fun at times the customized controls for the open world doesn’t apply and I honestly don’t get why and due to that controlling sonic is pretty bad he just feels stiff and awkward and SIGNIFICANTLY slower the levels themselves are pretty good but controlling sonic…not so much and I’m also not a fan of sonic stopping when he homing attacks. I LOVE the combat and the skill trees I definitely felt powerful when I used different attack variations and combos especially during the big open world bosses now as for the final boss again no spoilers but it wasn’t as good as I thought it was gonna be it definitely doesn’t surpass dark gaia and surprisingly the first island was the most fun to playthrough and there was definitely quests that I did NOT like but for the most part I enjoyed myself the story wasn’t really “tear jerking” and “emotional and serious” as they hyped it up to be and it’s pretty much what you expect with the “my friends are my power” cliché but it was still a pretty good story and I had a LOT of fun playing this one, overall I give it a 8/10 hopefully one day sega and sonic team will make a game truly amazing that’ll surpass unleashed and adventures 1-2 while that’ll definitely be hard if they continue going this route I think it’s definitely possible, I’m very excited for the future of sonic! The plot is just okay but it’s very refreshing from the pretty bad stories of colors, gens, lost world, and forces. Though there are some problems, there’s a ton of pop-in and the puzzles are WAY too

A really fun time for any platforming fan, albeit with some noticeable odd levels and design choices that still don't crack a winning formula. If Sega keeps fine tuning this experience, the future look bright for this series.

Despite it's rocky initial reveal, Sonic Frontiers lays a fantastic foundation for the series going forward. this game has a killer soundtrack with next-to no misses in the entire thing, the best soundtrack in the series in my opinion. the biggest point i hear brought up is the cyberspace levels feeling kinda bland and Sonic too slow in them, i think they're fine, with a speed that's not the fastest, but still pretty fast, and you can blow through these stages if you know some shortcuts, but ithis game has a killer soundtrack with next-to no misses in the entire thing, the best soundtrack in the series in my opinion. the biggest point i hear brought up is the cyberspace levels feeling kinda bland and Sonic too slow in them, i think they're fine, with a speed that's not the fastest, but still pretty fast, and you can blow through these stages if you know some shortcuts, but i can see why people would think they're too slow, and i would honestly prefer to play the levels their based on more than these ones. now about those open zones, there's basically 4 of them, with one of them being a bridge between 2 of them, for their first time attempting these i think they did a solid job, kinda empty but there's a decent amount of things to do, like collecting memory tokens (which despite what people think you DO NOT need to collect all of them to do everything) unlock more of the map and gain fruits to level sonic up, collect gears from mini bosses to access cyberspace levels and get vault keys which unlock chaos emeralds, which you need to progress or find Kucos. a decent amount of things to do, and if you don't like doing something like getting fruit or Kocos you can find a purple cyberspace portal to fish with Big, he will take purple coins (something that can also be found in the zone) and in exchange let you borrow his fishing rod, pulling up fish will get you a random fish, or funny object, and when you get something he'll give you tokens, these can be used to buy any of the items if you don't feel like searching for them, fruit, vault keys, gears, koco, and more. the combat is something new to Sonic, and it isn't any devil may cry or bayonetta, but i think it's a pretty good start for the first game to try it, the skill tree is relatively small, and i would've loved more moves, i unlocked them all by the end of the third island, the moves demolish enemies with ease but the stronger ones have counters to this like shields to not keep it too easy. now one thing i have a gripe with are the puzzles, they are WAY too easy, i get this is a kids game, but even for them this may be too easy, not very sonic-esque at all. i saw this white orb flying around and thought this might be a secret rings reference, where i'd have to race it somewhere, but then you just press and hold a button near it for a second, or the one where you gotta parry something, which is just holding down the bumpers, parrying is basically free in this game and demolishes almost anything. also the physics feel a bit weird at times, like Sonic's just glued to the ground, i'll run off a cliff expecting to fly off and Sonic runs down the cliff sometimes, it's weird. all-in-all Sonic Frontiers is a fun game that i think both new and old Sonic fans will enjoy, it could just use a bit of polish here and there... and let us re-fight the Titans PLEASE. I would give this game a 9/10 if the final boss wasn’t so underwhelming though. The last 3 bosses before it were awesome and hype. But that final boss felt like it wasn’t finished, it’s like they didn’t have enough time to fully develop the final boss of the game so hopefully in the future they have more manpower and time to make the game perfect. It's not a perfect game. The pop in is quite bad, cyberspace could seriously use more level themes and more original level designs, and platforms look quite out of place. You can feel the love that was poured into this game, and I hope that they stick with thia formula for a long time. If it was and just based on my personal feelings, I'd give it a full 10. ok enough praise let's get to my nitpicks

-combat is kinda bare-bones; needs more moves tbh
-the open world level design is aesthetically ass I'm sorry like why tf are there floating platforms in a basically desolate landscape??? In future games, level design should try to blend in with the environment
-you guys flopped the last two islands, should've just combined them with Kronos and made chaos the last island...
    -POP IN......... LMFAOOOOOOO

cyber space actually improves the further in the game you go. not just because they stop trying to force-feed you so many 2d cyberspace stages, but also because they pull from more SA2, SA1 and hero levels. i was overly excited when i realized one level was metal harbor. that said they really should have more than 4 visual themes, but it doesn't detract to much from the cyberspace stages.

    now it's not all sunshine
some of the puzzles and mini range from mediocre to down right frustrating. (looking at you chaos island.) with my leasta favorite one being where you have to collect 600 scrap metal. which wouldn't be so much of a pain except there is a short timer and the peices do not magnetize to you.
while every single main boss slaps in this game. some of the mini bosses are hit or miss.
with the worst of them being the shark mini boss which has way to many QTE for my taste.

now onto the best part i feel for this game besides the open zone aspect.

The story is much more melancholic then recent games and the stakes are also the highest it's been since the adventure levels. I WILL NOT put any spoilers besides saying this game's story is about the star fair islands inhabitants, but much more it's a story about retrospective reflection as well as a surprise introspective view of Eggman's thoughts. b y the end of this game you will feel sorry for Eggman. which is not a sentence I would thought I would be saying. Shout out to ian flynn for this masterful writing. you will be shocked at the amount of call backs and actual character development we get in this game.

Sonic Frontiers is a very good game especially fun, what a surprise, is what matters most in a video game, its open area works well and I would say that it is even strangely addictive to do simple objectives to complete the map and progress in the story the biggest problem I see is that reaching the end it starts to get repetitive, which actually is not such a big problem because when you start to feel this the game is over, even so I hope Sonic Team can improve this in the next Sonic games, despite how good it can be it is not free of other faults, it has its details that if they had been polished simply would give a greater value to the game, I mean some animations and the constant pop in, it is not the worst I've seen in a current video game but we all agree that it would be better if it was not there or if it was less noticeable, I also have to mention Cyberspace, I like the idea of short and replayable levels but its controls and physics are really bad, if the team plans to continue with this idea in the next games I would also like it to improve.
I also have another complaint which is that in the first 3 islands the story of the game gets more and more interesting but once you finish Chaos Island is like the game says "sorry but it has to end" and it feels very abrupt and in general the whole final stretch feels rushed or uninspired especially the final boss, maybe this is due to lack of time in the development and I understand it but still it is a flaw that has and must be marked.
things that I liked but that I almost forgot to mention so here it goes quickly
    *great soundtrack
*I completely love the battles against the titans, I would have liked an option to repeat the fights
*the combat is great, it's simple but it's very well thought out, it's also another aspect that I hope will improve in future games
and here ends my review, a very good game, it is really the way forward for Sonic Team they have a solid foundation and can continue to improve
By the way sorry if something is not understood or for any spelling or grammatical errors that I may have I used 100% of my brain power to write this and a little help from the translator

My only substantial criticism of the game is its ending- it grows very clear that Sonic Team is a group of 50-60 people making a game that should have had much larger staff and a much larger budget. As beyond their control as it is, the last few areas of the game and the final bosses seem to indicate that they ran out of steam, unfortunately. Never before has Sonic felt this fun to me. The way he controls captures a sense of speed and handling I didn't think possible given past experience with the various different gameplay styles the series has had. Being able to run around the various islands in this new "open-zone" format left me wanting to explore every nook and cranny as fast as I could. The combat, while nothing ground-breaking as far as industry standards go, led to exhilarating encounters with interesting enemies which is something I can honestly say I never expected out of this franchise. The Cyberspace levels, the classic Zones of the game which, admittedly, I wasn't a fan of at the start of this adventure, quickly made me proud to be a longtime fan of the franchise. Many of the level layouts were ripped from prior titles and because of that it actually became a fun little challenge for myself to see if I could remember which game a particular level layout was from.

The music, as is the case with nearly every game in the franchise, is phenomenal. Sonic has never been a stranger to rock and roll with many of its prior soundtracks being comprised of a mix of "butt rock," and synth-pop, but I don't think I've ever heard any themes that veer this hard into metalcore. The boss themes go HARD. With music composed by Sleeping with Sirens, Dangerkids, Nathan Sharp, and One Ok Rock, this soundtrack leaves you wanting to bang your head as you smack around some gargantuan eldritch abominations.

Yes, I said eldritch abominations. Not the first time the series has dipped into some weird elder god territory, but this may be the best a story of this caliber has ever been handled. The story helmed by Ian Flynn is full to the brim with lore and callbacks and for someone like me, I feel right at home. I feel seen. For the past decade or so, it felt as though Sonic was running away from its past, ignoring established rules and canon, or poking at them in a very meta, mocking kind of way. This game embraces the insanity whole-hog, and served as a reminder of the many reasons why I loved the series, and these characters, as much as I did when I was a kid.

Ultimately, that's how I feel about this game. It makes me feel like a kid again. I feel no shame or guilt over how I feel about this series for the first time in a very, VERY long time. It feels like an old friend has finally come home after losing his way. If you have any interest at all in Sonic Frontiers, I cannot recommend it enough. It left me smiling from ear to ear throughout a majority of my journey. While it may not be a perfect game, it is absolutely a contender for game of the year, in my eyes.

Some people have also compared Frontiers to other open world games when it's not even that. The Starfall Islands seem more like Super Mario Odyssey levels rather than a full open world, with a lot of little objectives to do like gather Memory Medals for basic progression, finding Cyberspace levels, and fighting Guardians and other enemies. So, for the average Joe, this is a solid 7/10.
However, as a Sonic fan, Frontiers is on a league of its own. Sonic Team may have found what they were looking for all along with Frontiers, their identity. Right now, Frontiers is one of the best Sonic games out there, surpassing the likes of Adventure 2, Mania, and Unleashed. Open Zone is a very interesting concept and Sonic Team can perfect it with more practice. The music is amazing as always. You feel in control of Sonic more than ever in Frontiers since you feel like everything that happened was your fault. Sadly, the Cyberspace levels are lacking in visual diversity but the real meat and potatoes of Frontiers is its Open Zone islands, huge open areas full of enemies to defeat and stuff to collect. Ian Flynn, from late Archie Comics and IDW Sonic, also wrote the story of Frontiers and now the characters seem more like their "before Colors" selves, and I hope SEGA keeps Flynn for the next installments as his Sonic writing is superb. The future of the Sonic franchise seems brighter than ever before thanks to Sonic Team's ambition and I can't wait to see what they have in store for the next Sonic game.

My biggest issue being the cyberspace levels feel weird to play often, while not being completely unplayable but definitely need working on. There is also what I've seen so far that the last two islands were actually part of Kronos but split into 2 new islands which is a bit disappointing. but fortunately the main game is a blast. It's fun to just run around and explore the islands and talk to the characters and delve into the lore and story of the game as well as the occasional mention to pass sonic games. The bosses are very fun to fight but the final boss I didn't mind it too much but it definitely wasn't the best. The game definitely should be tried out though, it's pretty addictive. I got a point where I was hunting down mini bosses just for sport. Definitely give it a try, especially ok PC since mods are being made to make the cyberspace levels more fun to play, and hopefully maybe change their aesthetics to have more than just 4 varying locations Expand

The story may be more on the simple side, but the character moments and the new character, Sage is amazing!
For any that are worried about the overworld, I can say with full confidence that the overworld is really fun to explore and Sonic's speed makes it really easy to explore most of each main overworld. There are methods of fast travel in case you dont want to run around all over the place, but I wont share how to get them and it would be best for you all to figure it out as you play.

    Issues with the game:
This is just a nitpick, but I'm personally not a fan of the 2D platforming, especially when the 3D platforming is so much fun. I wont say its not enjoyable. It has its moments, but I would much rather there be more 3D platforming than 2D.
    --
The final part of the game is a bit of a disappointment in comparison to the all of the amazing moments in the game and it can lead you to feeling confused if youre not prepared for it.
    --
Theres a part in the game thats actually the second half of another area, but they decided to label as something new. I'm sure there is a technical reason for separating them, but it would be better to label it as a (part 2) rather than naming it something else.
    --

To conclude, Sonic Frontiers is an amazing game and an exciting direction Sonic Team can take it that will make general gamers and the fans really pleased! If youre a Sonic fan, this is a MUST BUY and if youre just a gamer wondering if this game is worth the $60, it is but please be aware that the story is more on the simple side is more focused on characters and lore building. If a deep story is something youre looking for in a game, I don't think this will be for you. However, if gameplay and one of the best experiences in controlling sonic is what you want, then this is totally worth it!

This game is really good… I hope they keep this format for the next game but evolve and make it better. The combat was alright tho it could be very repetitive. The story was also really good but the ending was disappointing. My only issues with this game are the cyberspace stages and the pop ins.

I'm happy to say that frontiers is easily up there as one of his greatest. Let's start with the gameplay, from I've been playing the game runs really smoothly without any sort of noticeable lag and/or frame drops. Sonics movement and combat feel really good. Speaking of the combat it's pretty well done it's both simple to learn and a little challenging as you go on. Sonics speed feels great as well it's cuz you can change his speed in the menu when pause the game. Making as fast as slow as he needs to be.

The cyberspace levels are mostly pretty fun and interesting despite the being mostly reused stages but don't let that stop you, in fact the cyberspace stages as well as a lot of other things in the game are optional so you don't have to play them if you don't want to. Gotta say the only thing I don't like about some of the cyberspace stages are the controls or just how it controls sometimes and that they are mostly reused stages but they are optional. There is one problem that could turn a small bit of players off, and its the pop in. I will acknowledge that the pop in can be weird and/or or unsettling for some players but for me I didn't really let it bother that much I just focused on sonic and the beautiful environments. The game is drop dead gorgeous for a sonic game which to be honest sonic games to have always had good aesthetic, but as for this game good lord man the graphics are so freaking good man I love the way each of the islands look so freakin ethereal. I've been playing this game nonstop and I highly recommend you at least consider getting this game it's a blast to play, I won't say much about the story other than "it's really intriguing for a sonic game". Do yourself a favor and pick up Sonic Frontiers don't let anyone try to tell you anything negative about it just play it yourself and experience the magic even if you aren't much of a sonic fan.

    ---Graphics--- 6/10
In my opinion, the graphics didn't feel as next-gen as I've thought. However, the day-night cycle, as well as the dynamic wheather clearly fits the game tone. A problem that many users might be concerned about is the constant loading of objects to interact while playing. I personally didn't notice that much.

    ---Gameplay---(7/10)
The gameplay may be divided in two separate sections: Open-Zone and Cyberspace. While the open-zone gameplay might be the one considered more buggy at first thought, it was definitely more enjoyable, as you literally feel in Sonic's shoes thanks to the speed and freedom provided. Also, almost every character's physics can be tweaked in the options menu. Cyberspace was definently the less enjoyable one for me. Sonic's physics can't be tweaked here, so you are obligated to adapt to this set of acts. Thinking about open zone again, you can interact with a ton of new objects, but the objectives on each island could be perceived as repetitive and, personally, I agree to some extent. The first island has some areas that feel unfinished, and the developers could have spent more time improving this aspect.

    ---Story---(9/10)
In the last ten years, Sonic's stories felt somewhat simple, trying to bring fun in scenes that definently were not supposed to. From cheesy lines to blank characters, Sonic and his friends felt dumb and empty to the player. Nowadays, Sonic Frontiers brings a whole new character development to each person in the game, including the villain. A lot of past adventures are brought back, and not ignored like they were with the previous writers. The game passes an aura of mystery, and it clearly transmits that to the player. Also, the whole Sonic's character adopts the good old attitude that really defined him from the 90's to the 2000's.

    ---Soundtrack---(10/10)
Oh, where do I begin with? Sonic Frontiers music clearly fit the tone they wanted to send to the player. From the mysterious Open-Zone to the frenetic Cyberspace, or even the glorious vocal tracks used in boss fights, every note feels right. Even the sounds used in cutscenes enhances the whole scenario with ease.

Overall, if you feel insecure about buying the game, there is nothing to worry about! I definently recommend you to grab it and give it a shot!

The game suffers from pacing issues, the game raises the bar on so many levels, but then kind of drops it at the end with the true final boss, I think everyone expected a new Sonic form for an ambitious game like this, but no one would have minded that if it wasn't this anticlimactic, loved the characterization Sonic and friends here, this is the best voice cast for the franchise, and everyone delivers, the story is fun, it was fun seeing the Eggman/Sage wholesome moments.
This game looks amazing visually, the work on Sonic Team's proprietary Hedgehog Engine 2 is apparent, the pop-in has been addressed by everyone so I won't go into it.
Cyber Space physics need tweaking, it needs the "give me knobs to control Sonic" treatment like in the open-zone, the different in physics is apparent and it's a major downgrade.
After finishing Sonic Frontiers, I'm giving it 8/10, this is a very ambitious title for Sonic, and I do hope Sega keeps being this ambitious with their mascot, this game screams passion when playing it, unlike Sonic Team's recent outings.

Now that I'm almost finished with it, I wanted to give my honest, long-winded opinion on this game as a long time Sonic fan who doesn't feel shy being critical of the franchise. This game is incredibly flawed with a lot of problems. However, I had a great time with it and will definitely be playing more of it even after I've finished.

The pop-in is bad. To the point where it actually affects how you play. You can't really figure out where you can go sometimes because the assets aren't loaded, so you have to be within several feet of the path so it can actually become visible, which isn't good for a game where you go blisteringly fast and those assets essentially materialize right in front of you.

Cyberspace is hit or miss and incredibly inconsistent. Some levels I genuinely love and are up there with some of my favorite Sonic levels, and some of them I wouldn't make my worst enemy play. Some levels control pretty well and make speedrunning them very satisfying, while others have terrible controls and I get a headache just trying to get a D rank so I can move on. This inconsistency runs for both the 3D and 2D levels, so you never really know if the level you unlock is going to be innately frustrating or surprisingly fun until you're playing it.

Combat is decent. All style with little substance, but as a filthy casual, I kinda like that. It feels like it's more or less a foundational mechanic that'll be improved upon in a later title. For now, it's a flashy button-masher that's main intention is to make you feel powerful. The boss fights are actually one of the biggest highlights in the game, something that was always an afterthought in previous Sonic titles. Many of the lower level bosses completely outpace even previous final bosses from older games. The boss fights are only brought to greater heights with its OST, which is fantastic in every part of this game.

The open-zone is surprisingly fun, I think it's the highlight of the game. It's THE thing the game was built upon and I think it's executed well despite the pop-in issue. However, I would've loved some extra side missions that really take advantage of the playground that can be so enjoyable to run around in. The puzzles and the activities given by Sonic's friends are fun, but I think there could've been more.

Story is pretty good. You're not getting a dark gritty drama with Sonic, but this isn't an incredibly patronizing Saturday morning cartoon like the recent entries have been. The team did a pretty good job with the story trying to balance seriousness with some lighthearted elements. And Ian Flynn does a great job at writing dialogue that develops these characters as opposed to white noise emitting from Sonic and friends. It feels like a nice restart to the unbearable writing of the last few years.

I've been going on for too long. While I have my issues with the game, I can't seem to put it down. The combat is shallow yet satisfying with invigorating boss fights, Cyberspace can frustrate me but can be way too much fun when designed right, pop-in is bad but I love exploring the open-zones and discovering new paths. I haven't played a Sonic title this enjoyable since Generations, so I can excuse the issues, especially with how small the team was on this project.

It gets an 8 in my book because to me, it shot for the stars and very messily crash lands on the moon. It ain't pristine, but it works and it does something the franchise hasn't done in over 10 years: Try. It tries on all fronts and it's incredibly admirable. Sure it falls flat in places, but when it works it's the most fun I've had in a Sonic game. Even though I'm hoping for improvements through updates, it's still super fun and I'm genuinely excited for what Sonic Team does next if they maintain this drive with either a sequel or a similar follow up. For newcomers to Sonic, give it a try, you might like it. For fans, this is a must-have.

To Sonic Team and Sega: Please keep this commitment to the franchise. When you give it your all you create something really special. Care and effort are all the fans ask for. Please keep up the good work.

But if giving this game anything above a 7.0 somehow makes me a 'Sonic Stan', then the Hokey-Pokey's a fun game to play, too.

I will admit Frontier's flaws, the open-world aspect not being one of them. There are much bigger outliers here, like the Wyvern boss fight at the end of Ares Island (Island #2) and how that somehow seems to avoid all of the development lessons Masahiro Sakurai has been pointing out for the better part of two months. There are smaller things, like not being able to see your map whenever you are in the vicinity of an enemy, or the bizarre Sonic R-style drifting mechanic in level 3-5.

In the end, however, I'm a videogame apologist (Maybe even a bad game denier. I'm still figuring that one out), but I liken 'Frontiers' to the first Assassin's Creed - Almost-prototypical in its design, with amazing opportunity to become much, much better. I will continue to follow this.

The Eels have a song called 'Beautiful Freak'. 'Frontiers' is not like the other Sonic games...; Maybe that's why I love it. When the only other game you've played to completion this year was Eiyuden Chronicle: Uprising, punching 60+ hours into a Sonic game has gotta mean it somehow kept your attention, and that it can't be the absolute unplayable mess the 0s say it is.

This is just my futile attempt at offering a more rational perspective. Make of it as you will.

However, for the first time since 2011, a mainline Sonic Team project is strong at its core. The open world is a joy to run through and, though it isn't especially dense, the speed of the character means it's hardly an issue when quickly moving from one thing to the next. The tasks on the map are brief, and it's a breeze going through and completing everything. All the boss fights (except for that last one) are very engaging, with fantastic music to boot. The whole game has fantastic music, separated into three different basic track types which are all performed great. The cyberspace stages are a valuable addition to the game and the overall gameplay loop is engaging.

The game is no masterpiece. But for the first time in a decade, Sonic games have a good foundation to work with. Let's just hope the studio don't throw it away.

I loved the game from beginning to end, I love the puzzles that are scattered on the map but there are 3 main problems for which I do not give it 10/10, which are: 1 the fishing system is broken and that in 15 minutes of When you fish, you can get all the skills to the top, what I would have done was that both in the puzzles spread over the islands there would be different fragments and that in the fishing area as a balance to progress in the game at a normal pace. 2 the poppin and how it appears on the face sometimes. 3 the final boss which is basically an epic and well-done part that later becomes slow and heavy in terms of the rhythm of the game because it seems more like a touhou face than a final boss. In conclusion the game is good but it could be better Expand

As a fan of Sonic for a long time, Sonic Frontiers made me go back in time when i was a kid, and made me wanted to play Sonic games from start to finish for long hours, since first time my dad brought me a Mega Drive. This game for me was addictive! I could found myself falling in love with the story and the characters development/dialogs since the beggining of the game. This game for me was addictive! I could found myself falling in love with the story and the characters development/dialogs since the beggining of the game. The cyberspace levels were Also very entertaining and give us a glimpse of other Sonic games of the past, through the level design itself. The idea of the open world for me was very well executed. For those who like to take their time to explore and admiring the view of the Islands, it was a breath of fresh air.
Altho the game for me was an absolutelly masterpiece that all us Sonic fans were waiting for a long time, there still some aspects that i think SEGA could do better, for exemple:
-I found some bugs along the way that were kinda annoying. I was even stuck at a rock, glitching non stop. I had to shut down the game and open it again - There was times where my controls stopped fuctioning. For exemple when i was doing some jumps, it all the sudden they stop working. I had to repeat some times the same Path because of it. It was a little annoying.
    - The ending was good, but I was expecting a little more "wow factor". The boss fight could been a little longer, and was expecting some new form of power of Sonic. It is just my opinion.
Overall, Sonic Frontiers have a solid base for a future games. I hope that Ian Flinn continues working on games because he is a suberb storyteller and knows the world and the characters better than anyone else. Really recomend buying the game!

It's not a perfect game but it's interesting to see that Sonic Team took the risk in trying something new and got most of it right. The pop-ins, camera angles and overall emptiness of the world are issues to consider for the next Sonic game and future ones. The story was well crafted and not over the top goofy, super duper edgy or "using the power of friendship" crap (Sonic Forces), gladIt's not a perfect game but it's interesting to see that Sonic Team took the risk in trying something new and got most of it right. In the end, the concepts and ideas were good just the execution could have used a bit more time to cook in the oven. This game for me is a 7.5, but since there's no intermediate scores I'm giving it a 8.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is amazing! Definitely the best Sonic game I've played in a long while. Although, I do have some criticisms like the last two islands being a rip off of Kronos, the Cyberspace levels being too short and reusing previous level asset. That and only using four level themes. Plus, the last two bosses felt a little lackluster compared to the first three. Also, the animation for the in game cut scenes are pretty stiff. Lastly, the part of the story where Sonic was cured of his cyber corruption felt like it was resolved too quickly. Despite all the criticism I have with the game, everything else was great! It really lays a good foundation for a possible sequel or something completely different in terms of Sonic games. I hope you keep the formula around for a long time, Sonic Team! I think it has the potential to really strike gold within the franchise Expand

The idea and vision of the game is absolutely fabulous. In practice, however, the game is brought down by its execution, which you can see through after a short while and then the game has nothing to surprise you with. [Issue#324]

There is nothing remotely redeeming about this game. Nothing that even the most die-hard loyal Sonic Fans would or should advocate for. I hope that one day someone who cares enough about this franchise could give us something-anything of substance. A fan can hope, can’t they? A fan can hope.

Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
