Sonic Frontiers is an excellent game. The best 3D Sonic I ever played. It’s not flawless, the pop in can be really distracting but if that isn’t a deal breaker for you, you’re in for a blast. Go fish for 5 minutes and you’re good to go. The combat system is really well done and flashy and the boss battle are epic. Sonic controls can still be polished tough. I think, Sega is into something. If they want the next installment to be a masterpiece, here are the key part for me :
    -Give the game more budget
-Fix the technical issues -Upgrade the pacing of the story telling and the cinematics
-Don’t use the same mini game to reaver the map twice. Like in Mario 3D World, you won’t find the same gimmick twice. They should try to accomplish a similar thing.
    -Upgrade Sonic Controls
-Remove 2D courses -Change the theme of the courses. Explore something else.

I think if they get these on point, they are in for finally a Sonic game that will bring Sonic to the top

The game isn’t perfect, but every game has flaws and this game isn’t short of its, but it’s fun, the story is enjoyable, the characters are relevant again, sonic controls amazingly.

I want sega to continue down this path with sonic, This, is the sonic game I have been waiting for, and I never thought I would say this, but sonic has found it, this, this is it.

Ah Sonic Frontiers. The next mainline sonic game for 5 years, and I can tell, it was worth the wait. There is so much to do in the open zone such as, challenges, platform challenges to get collectables and mostly fun enemies and bosses. There is an issue with pop in that should be addressed, however, it doesn't take away from the experience. Sonic also controls really well in the open zone as well, better than the rubbish, slippery controls of sonic forces, the last mainline sonic game.
the story in this game is more serious and has a more sombre, calmer and darker tone, which is a huge breath of fresh air from the childish, light-hearted stories we've had since Sonic colours. It is great and the best since Sonic unleashed.
Then there's cyberspace, which can be accessed through portals scattered around the Starfall islands. These levels are great fun and have 4 objectives for each one of them which ads some replicability to the game. However, there are a few small issues with them such as, sonic being very slow even while boosting, (though there is a reason for it) and the fact that there are only 4 level themes. (greenhill, chemical plant, sky sanctuary and a city setting). they really should have added at least 3-4 more themes to occupy the 30 cyberspace levels and not reused greenhill and chemical plant (as they have come back way too many times and it is now tiering to see them again). there are plenty of other old themes they could have given us, such as, Kingdom Valley (sonic 2006), Icecap zone (Sonic 3&k), The aquarium park (Sonic colours) and jungle joyride (sonic unleashed). hopefully, in the future, Sonic team will give us more cyberspace levels with new, different themes, as dlc.
Overll though these issues don't make this game any less good. The soundtrack is also absolutely fire!
Sonic is back and it great. welcome to the next era of sonic. or rather, as it is looking like it, the second dark era of sonic. This game is not as good as Sonic unleashed (because that game really is the best in my opinion), but it's still a gem, and I hugely recommend people give it a go.

Expand

It is true that Sonic games had been becoming worse with each title of the mainline series since 2010, but Sonic Frontiers is finally a game Sonic Team can be proud of. It is not a perfect game, but imagine a situation: a kid had been getting F's for each homework, test, and exam just because they didn't care about school stuff, but one day they decided it is time to work for their future, so eventually, after days of hard work, they brought a C mark. That's not the best result that can be reached, but this C is an achievement for that kid, and if we don't praise this achievement now and just start emphasizing the flaws alone, the kid won't see any point in reaching new heights.

That's what Sonic Frontiers is for Sonic Team right now. It is a C (possibly even a B), but this is finally a good Sonic game that explores and expands the universe's lore, dives into characters and their thoughts, and brings a fun gameplay cycle you don't want to break for a rest. Sonic is not a meme, and this series doesn't have to do what Mario, Crash, or Spyro do — let Sonic be what he is good at, let him be a shonen for teens and young adults mixed with Nier, MGR, Devil May Cry, and Shadow of the Colossus, and just enjoy what he brings. Admiring Sonic Frontiers is a decent game won't bring you shame, and this is more valuable than trying to pretend the franchise is a constant joke.

It took me about 25 hours to beat the game, and I want to spend more in it, for the fighting can be really challenging and complex, traversing brings the feeling of excitement, and following the mystical story with no sarcasm in soul is no doubt interesting.

    Pros:
Customizable physics, which helps give more people a preferred play style.
The trick system while airborne is satisfying
The combat, while simple, is fast paced and feels good.
The story respects older fans of the Adventure games with many references as well as characterization similar to Adventure 1 and 2.
More varied routes in the cyberspace levels which reminded me of the Sonic stages in Adventure 2.
The soundtrack is excellent, as usual.

    Cons:
Some of the puzzles exist just to fill the world with something to do, which would sound like a good thing but these puzzles (just a couple of them) feel like they weren’t thought out very much.
Some of the animation is slightly janky, with the worst probably being the opening cutscene almost looking like a fan-made animation.
The advertisements for the game were filled with outstanding looking CGI cutscenes, but those same moments were replaced with in-game cutscenes that were nowhere as good looking. Many Sonic games have CGI cutscenes sprinkled in which led me to believe that would happen again.

My criticisms are for the most part just nitpicks, and the good heavily outweighs the bad. I appreciate Sonic Team for thoughtfully making a game that took the older fans into mind, and I love it. 9/10

For me Sonic Frontiers is the best way Sonic could start this new age in the Sonic franchise, It does everything in the right way in my opinion.

First of all the story is very good, obviously it isn't a Final Fantasy type of history but is the type of story that you want to see in a Sonic game. It's more or less like Sonic Adventure story and even more interesting because Starfall Islands have many mysteries to solve , the character development is great thanks to Ian Flynn and the story has a lot of lore and backstory of the Chaos Emerlads and other things. Another important point for me is that Sonic make reference to other games quite often so this games helps with the chronology and it helps to know what things are canon and what aren't whlie sometimes you'll be a little confused about that too, for example in some point there are references to Sticks implying that Sonic Boom is canon? In summary the story is pretty good and solid and the more you play, the more you want to know how the story developes.

In terms of gameplay, Sonic responds really really good and is very fun just to run with Sonic across the islands because the movement and the speed are very well made. The exploration in the open zone is the most enjoyable thing to me because you are always doing something, searching for memory tokens to chat and know more about the other characters, fighting with guardians, solving puzzles, is like a giant playground of Sonic-style gamepelay and I really like that, is very fun to explore and run freely as Sonic. The combat is very fun, entertaining and frenetic, the combos are very sick visually and you feel very powerful but in the end the variety of enemies and its mechanics make a great combat and not a button masher. Also the boss battles as Super Sonic are incredibles, maybe too easy because of the amount of rings you have, but the camera, the boss design, the music, Super Sonic himself, the combination of all of the previously mentioned make all of the bosses excellent except for one, the final boss feels more like a minigame than a final battle, at least is fun to play and the music and dialogue make the battle quite epic. The Cyberspace levels are like the bonus stage for this game, is the place where you go with te purpose of getting the Chaos Emeralds and personally i found them very enjoyable like the rest of the tings in this game. There are a lot of Cyberspace levels per island and some have great level design while others have ok level design, some are very long levels meanwhile some last seconds, but in all of them the music is excellent (like in the rest of the game) and they are very replayable because you are going to need keys to get the Chaos Emerald and this keys are only available in Big's shop and in this Cyberspace levels where you need to complete some missions like achieve an S rank, collect all the Red Star Rings and more, every mission is a key and there are four missions per level so sometime you might repeat a level but only if you want, if you don't want to play these Cyberspace levels you can go fishing with Big the Cat. The fishing minigame is simple, when the fish bites the hook you will have to press the button at the right time to catch it. The more fish you catch the more coins you are going to have and this with coins you can buy thinks like missing kocos, Cyberspace keys, seeds to raise Sonic attack and defense and even Eggman voice-logs. The only problem I have with the fishing minigame is that if you spend a lot of time fishing you can go overpowered really quick so I recommend to not fish exceedingly.

In conclusion, I think Sonic Frontiers is an excelent game whether you are fan of our favorite blue hedgehog or not. If I weren't a Sonic fan since my childhood my final score would be 8,6/10 but at a big Sonic fan, my final score is 9/10. The game can have its problems like some menus, the final battle and a bit of the fishing minigame, but definitely i recommend this game a lot, i never got bored during my game because the frenetic combat, the great open-zone, the wonderful music, the incredible boss battles, the story written by Ian Flynn and so much more. I think this is the perfect first step for a new era for Sonic the Hedgehog and i hope the quality of the new games keeps improving more and more.

A lot of fans might be mad at the lack of momentum, or not enough playable characters, or too much Green Hill/Chemical Plant. However, I found enjoyment in all aspects of the game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played this game throughout and i have to say this game is amazing. the open world feels nice and there’s much to do in it. the cyber space stages are a bit odd and not too creative theme wise but level design and the feel is amazing. sometimes i feel like sonic is a bit floaty in the cyber space stages. The only problems i have with this game is the 4th and 5th islands where you could see they clearly ran out of either budget, creativity or care. and i do not care for the final boss fight of this game nor the pinball segment of chaos island. despite this i still enjoyed the game a lot. the super sonic boss fights were amazing and very raw and epic. This game is a step in the right direction. The past references of previous games, and the development of tails felt natural unlike lost world. Tails setting out to become his own person was a nice setup. And sage potentially being a recurring character is amazing. I wish infinite was too because his character potential was greatly missed. but i feel like sages development was spot on. overall this games story and gameplay are amazing. I love it! Expand

The worst thing about the game is probably the pop-in for platforms in the open zone. The titan fights are like bosses turned up to the max. That’s why I’m giving this game a 9. Expand

The best sonic game I have ever played. It's just so much pure fun l! Running around and exploring as sonic just feels amazing, platforming acorss these huge landscapes at blistering speeds, the combat is super fast paced and energetic, the cyberspace levels at their best are as fun as generations and unleashed, the story has been quite good too! Highly recommend it to any sonic fan!

An amazing product for the first open world sonic game. Movement is tight and fun, blasting around the islands feel amazing and there's never a dull moment.
Combat is action pack and shockingly deep for the game.
Music is fantastic (to be expected from the series) The story is engaging, giving you an incentive to keep playing. Unfortunately there is some minor technical issues but nothing

After getting 100% on the first 2 islands and arriving on the 3rd, i can confidently say this is the evolution of sonic we needed. Wherever you go there are always platforming challenges to do, the combat system is fun, and the cyberspace levels are a good break from the open zone. The titan boss fights are crazy too.

I give it a 9 just because the true final boss of the game, is a bit disappointing that they turned the best opportunity to be ultra epic, in a bullet hell with 3 quick time events, anything besides that is just perfect.

As a long time Sonic fan, I've gone around 11 years without a good 3D mainline game now, and sonic frontiers absolutely delivers on being something super special with so much potential. I have played this game to 100% completion and outside of the secret hard mode final boss, I loved every minute. That final boss was awful though lol. This formula has so much potential, and I really hope SEGA and Sonic Team look to refine it into something really amazing. For now at least, I can confidently say that Sonic is good again, and that's a fantastic feeling. Expand

I waited 5 years for this game and it payed off, the gamrplay is fluid dynamic and very fast, there's always something to do, solving a puzzle, beating some enemies or completing de cyber space levels. Sure the game isn't perfect, there's a lot of minor mistakes especially on the cyber space, but this game js a huge step in the right direcrion for the series

The games writing is fantastic, the optional lore memo's, the characterization, the mystery, it's all executed on a level we haven't seen really since the Adventure Games.
Special mention to the voice talent, Roger Craig Smith has had a rough time as Sonic with some appalling scripts and a grating Sonic voice, that changes here! The incredible script (Special Thanks to long time Sonic Comic writer Ian Flynn, a godsend) coupled with the new deeper tone of voice works fantastically, this is how Sonic sounds for sure.
Gameplay wise it's maybe the best we've seen of a 3D sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic handles fantastically, there's a learning curve to his movement which informs you that there's a large skill ceiling, although caps on momentum and standardised speed leaves room for improvement, the touches of momentum based play are there and it's fantastic.
I ran into no bugs or glitches during my PS5 run of the game, but more importantly I never ran into an unfair death, something that plagues many sonic games.
SET PIECES the Island bosses are incredibly hype, how the game handles Super Sonic is the new standard rather than feeling like some kind of cutaway or minigame you hold onto the skills you have learned during play and have them enhanced for these massive climaxes!
As ever the music in Sonic is reliably great but it's truly a great OST a mix of the sound directors passions clearly, from melancholy to lo-fi, and a splash of 2000's era rock and metal, it comes together fantastically!
Sonic Adventure 2 shoes are the cherry on top .
9/10 quite possibly the best entry into Sonic's catalogue, I don't want to call it a perfect 10 because there's room for improvement but that is no criticism, that room for improvement only exists because of how stand out this game is. Sonic Frontiers is a love letter to not only Sonic Fans but also just good games.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sonic Frontiers is the definitive Sonic experience. The story is amazing and the way the characters interact feels so much more in line with how they were supposed to be. The relationship built between Eggman and Sage was the highlight of the game. The animation is also really good this time around. Animation in 3D Sonic games is usually pretty static and involves them just standing around. In here they're so much more alive. They're really bouncy and emotive here. The pop in can be jarring sometimes but it never did anything bad to me. Though it would have been nice if it weren't there at all. It'd make the game look even more amazing. I also wish Sonic weren't as "sticky" here. I feel like he should be launching off of cliffs instead of going "Spider-Hog mode". However, the momentum you can generate to get some airtime is insane. I find myself going 200+ft in the air sometimes and it's amazingly fun. Cyberspace was pretty repetitive but also never got really stale. The reusage of Green Hill, Chemical Plant, and Sky Sanctuary did mess it up a little, but changing up the themes of the levels was enough to keep me in. All in all, the game has its problems, as with all others, but with the whole package, you're definitely getting your money's worth here. Expand

The way the characters interacted with each other was my personal highlight as it was such a fresh start from the last decade on how they were written, THIS is Sonic's true world. How the world has been portrayed has left me amazed with all the previous games referenced to make it all an official cannon and not a cheesy reference like previous games have done. (even a Sonic Boom reference was mentioned which caught me by surprise, makes me wonder what they will do with that in the next game)

Only problem with the game was the cyberspace control, and i was going to mention the reuse of previous games for level design but it was KINDA justified from the last island where sage basically mentions that, so I felt like I couldn't really complain as some stages where original, just wish there was more of them.

But I will just say they better see these user scores over the critics because WE know what we want in a sonic game WE are the ones who know sonic better than anyone else so WE know what makes sonic good.

Cheers to a bright future for sonic.

My favorite part is the boss fights. The boss fights in this game are the best the series have ever gotten, except for maybe the final boss, which was a bit of a letdown. The open world gameplay is so much fun, and it’s even more fun when you have the max amount of runs and get even faster. The story tries to be big, but it is just around the quality of Unleashed’s story, and unfortunately isn’t as good as the story in Adventure 2. However, the ending almost made me tear up. The cyberspace levels I am mixed about. The last island has completely original levels, other than one, but most of them are good. Unfortunately, the cyberspace levels in the earlier islands aren't so lucky. Some levels from earlier islands have level design taken from old levels, which sometimes feels lazy. However, the 3D stages are really fun. The 2D sections of cyberspace levels are probably the worst part of the game and the physics are why. You should also make sure to clear as many of the mini games that expand your GPS as possible or else you could be stuck searching for portals. However, overall, this game is fantastic. Get this game now. Also PLAY THE GAME ON HARD MODE or else you won’t get the true final boss. Actually, you only need to switch to hard mode before you get the 6th chaos emerald on the 5th and last island, but you should play the game on hard mode anyway because it’s not even hard. I’m 40 hours into the game now, i have completed all levels with an S rank, collected coins and the red coins, completed all side quests, all main quests, collected every fish with big the cat, maxed my stats and solved every puzzle, collected every memory fragment and the true ending.. and yet, I’m not sure how to rate this game. I think it’s the best sonic game made to be honest, but it does give me pains in saying that because i have so much love for some of the levels in sonic adventure. There’s a different feel because there isn’t a hub world to this game or anything that makes it specifically memorable such as tails workshop, but part of that is because throughout the entire game you are experiencing new mechanics, new enemies, and new bosses back-to-back. Mini games for me, I love. Sonic should be a playground, and that’s kind of what this entire game feels like.

The whole early thousands casino look at things is what sonic is to me, and they have a lot of throwbacks to previous games. It took me a couple hours to get used to the new control scheme and physics but once I figured it out I’ve found that I can move myself freely however i want, generally by using a drop dash to stop momentum or side step to reposition myself, getting used to using the boost for positioning opposed to skipping everything.

I love how this game feels, i love the minigames, fishing is a nice addition and the constant change of pace in the game is welcome.

However, I do feel like I’m progressing alone still unlike in sonic adventure i felt like i was progressing with the other characters, though that may be intentional.

And it’s hard to grow comfort in the zones because of How large they are and with the art style growing accustomed to learning how to identify specific areas.

Generally, in most games you can recognize where you are because you see something iconic from previous games, but this Game is completely fresh with all new setting and theme completely while also not being a linear course like other platformers or even RPG’s

I want to give it a 10 / 10 because i can’t put it down and I’m going to even replay it on hard.

But I think I’d give it a 9 / 10 because there are hiccups, camera issues and occasional wall clipping. Though in my opinion the soundtrack alone is worth it and the bugs don’t happen that frequently. Throughout my play through I had only encountered one game breaking bug and that was the ghost boss when it attached to a tower, I destroyed the tower too fast so he just stood there and killed me slowly while I watched. Technically one other bug ( hey devs this is not game breaking but It is very misleading and frustrating once you find out ) after defeating the boss in chaos island there is still an island mystery in the zone that will never go away being the lava on the mountain because it’s correlating to when you play pinball.

If it’s lower, it’s because they are hyper critical of the pop in, which will never affect the game play or because they simply don’t like sonic games. While the pop in is bad, it didn’t take away from the fun of blasting at insane speeds across the land. Or trying to best my speeds in cyber space.

I think it’s safe to say, the conflict is because it’s very different from anything we’ve experienced from the franchise before while also using props that are familiar to us, in order to get the game to where it needs to be, i don’t think they need to change much of How the game works, i think they need to slowly accustom the player base to a new familiar world and solidify the story they provided towards the end of this game. Sonic has always been episodic whereas this feels like a new beginning towards the end of the game. Leaving me wanting for more.

This Sonic is the right direction, but growing pains are there and it makes sense why they are there. Not only for the developer but also the player.

There are other complaints but those are minor and didn't really hinder my experience as much compared to the ones mentioned.

Regardless this game has me excited for what's next in the Sonic franchise and it's definitely worth your time and money.

One of the first things that stands out about Sonic Frontiers is its stunning graphics. The game's environments are vast, detailed, and beautifully rendered. From lush forests to sprawling cities, Sonic Frontiers offers a diverse and visually striking world for players to explore. But Sonic Frontiers also introduces new gameplay mechanics, such as wall running and grappling, that add a new level of depth to the game.

An excellent start of a new era for Sonic. My only disappointment is how short the main campaign is and that is the only reason I'm not giving it a perfect score. Mechanics, additional playable characters, and boss battles can always be improved if they continue this formula, but as of now, Sonic Frontiers is worth a couple of playthroughs.

The game also dives into Sonic lore, which is really cool to see. Now, the game is obviously not perfect and has its flaws, however the good parts definitely make up for them.

Honestly, Frontiers was a blast to play. It has detroned Sonic 3 & Kuckles as my favorite Sonic game. I hope this sets the future for Sonic games, if they come to be as good as this one then the series will finally get the quality games it deserves

Sonic Frontiers, in my opinion, best 3D Sonic game. It surely has flaws and is not perfect, but I'd give it a solid 9/10. Let's begin with what I didn't like:

-Cyberspace's physics. I quickly got used to it, but ngl it doesn't mean that Sonic controls well. Sonic is moving a lot slower, and it's easily noticeable on levels ripped from older games. Long story short, it just inherited most of Forces' physics, and downgraded travel speed a bit.
-Some characters' animations are quite bizarre and weird, especially during Sonic and Knuckles' dialogues, Sonic mid-air running is goofy ahh etc.
-Abuse of 2D sections on Chaos Island. They build up like more than 1/2nd of the exploring on this Island, it's so annoying honestly.

Anything else about this game is near perfection.
Story, with proper characterization and finally use of Chaos Emeralds. Especially villain is well-written. And you know, Amy doesn't flirt with Sonic every damn second.
Gameplay in open-zone is also great. Combat, while being not so hard, is actually pretty various and enjoyable. You can't just mash X/square button to beat enemies. Sonic's movement is much better here compared to Cyberspace. Exploring just fits those zones so well, that even usually tedious process of getting collectibles is not so challenging and actually boring unlike in Unleashed. Graphics are incredible, a huge leap from previous generation in terms of everything, like lighting, art-style, some textures, level of details, shaders etc. All this together looks pretty much comparable to AAA games. Bosses are various and challenging, once again, huge leap from previous generation games where they are just mostly chases with some obstacles. OST is not as good relatively sometimes in Sonic's standards, but overall it's still a banger (especially Titans' themes)

It's so relieving seeing people finally (mostly) praise the Sonic game all together

The gameplay is not only fun, but addictive as well. Some people might at first glance take a look at the gameplay and think that the world is empty, but that's absolutely not the case. There's so much to do in the world, whether that be solving puzzles, fighting enemies and mini bosses, doing short platforming challenges, or even just free roaming around the islands as Sonic. And the best thing about this is that every aspect is fun. This is probably the best Sonic has ever felt to control, which makes exploring the islands even more fun. There is some jank, but it's not nearly enough to stop the game from being entertaining and fun. And then there's the cyberspace levels. I was originally worried that the levels would be too short and boring, but I'm genuinely surprised by just how much fun these levels are. They're the perfect length, and it's extremely fun to try and finish all the criteria for the level at once. I can imagine that speed-runners will have tons of fun with this game. The only drawbacks for me is that the levels are only made up of 4 main themes (Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary and that one city level), and the controls for Sonic in cyberspace isn't as good as the over world. He feels stiff and way too slow. However, the levels are varied enough in aesthetic that it isn't too much of a problem, and I installed a mod that makes him control a bit better in the cyberspace levels, so it isn't really a problem for me anymore too. And then there's the story. The story was actually pretty good, and very fun too. God bless Ian Flynn for not only treating the characters with the respect they deserve, but also doing his best to flesh out the world of Sonic even more. It's super cool to see various moments in the series acknowledged in the game, and not being treated as if it never happened. It's also great to see Sonic being himself again. I've missed the Unleashed era Sonic for so long, so it genuinely feels to me like Sonic is finally back. And I love the way Ian Flynn wrote his dynamic with all the other characters in the game. Rather than just being one-note tropes like they've been for almost a decade now, it's great to see all the characters being written well and treated with respect too. Especially love how Sonic and Knuckles dynamic was in the 2nd island. It's great to see them being rivals with respect towards each other again. Really enjoyed every moment when they interacted with each other. And now to talk about the boss fights. The bosses were some of my favorite moments in the entire game, and easily the best Super Sonic boss fights in the entire series. They're all extremely hype (with the exception of maybe the final boss), with my favorites being the 2nd and 3rd boss (THAT moment during the 3rd boss gave me major Final Fantasy Sonic X nostalgia, if you know you know). And the music during these fights were amazing too (speaking of which, the music for this game is outstanding, and tied with Unleashed for being my favorite soundtrack in the series. Almost every single song is a banger, it's a massive step up compared to Forces OST). It felt like I was playing a Metal Gear Rising boss, but with Sonic. It's like a shonen anime fight, and I mean it in the best way possible. The bosses should definitely be experienced blind. The only gripes I had with the game are stuff like the pop-in, but it didn't really bother me all too much so it's all good. I do wish the ending portion of the game was given more time though, as I feel that the final boss wasn't as good as the other 3 bosses, and the ending portion definitely felt rushed. But in the end, I absolutely enjoyed my time with Sonic Frontiers. It's probably the most fun I've had with a Sonic game ever. After a decade of lackluster games, I'm really happy that Sonic Frontiers turned out to be so great. My score for Sonic Frontiers is a light 9/10, which is the highest rating I've given a Sonic game. Even my previous favorite Sonic games, Generations and Unleashed, are just a strong 8/10. This game isn't perfect by any means, and there's definitely room for improvement. However, the negatives for this game are heavily outweighed by the positives, as well as the amount of pure fun I had playing this game. Sonic is finally back, and I can't wait to see how Sonic Team improves upon this formula. Expand

Parece que finalmente están yendo por una buena dirección, Sonic ya no se avergüenza de ser Sonic y estoy muy feliz por eso. While some of the typical 3d sonic jank is present, the gameplay feel great once you've adjusted in the first few hours. More importantly, the challenges faced to obtain the myriad collectibles littered in each of the open world areas is feels rewarding, as they can be approached from any angle. While there is an "intended" path for most collectibles, some times there's that one collectible that you aren't quite sure how to reach, resulting in creative methods for you to reach that spot. Landmarks are also sprinkled throughout the openwork segments that lead to cyberspace zones, which are fast-paced albeit short levels flavored from Sonic's previous adventures. These help break up the open world exploration to keep things fresh and providing new challenges along the way. There are also multiple islands, each with its on environments and enemies to keep the player engaged throughout the adventure. Enemies require different methods to defeat, so don't expect to just mash one button constantly, although that may work on a few enemies throughout the journey.

The story isn't pushing any boundaries compared to other games this generation, but for fans of the older titles there are some nice nods to the games of the past and over all doesn't feel as cringey as some of the more recent games. If you have been a fan of sonic in the past but have fallen off with it recently, I highly recommend you give this game a chance.

Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
