    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game adds a lot of aspects from old games in the franchise, as well ask makes references. One of the best Sonic games in history, if not the best game. The open world allows players to control Sonic to the maximum of his abilities.

    The new combat system allows players to deal lethal combos when facing stronger foes. There isn’t too much platforming as we’ve seen in other modern Sonic games.

    The story carries a strong meaning within it that I believe may go over one’s head if they are not paying too close attention. I have no complaints of this game, and hope the majority of the community can agree.    … Expand

    Sonic frontiers is a good sonic game after unleashed
    HOW ever you can argue it is the best sonic has ever been the combat the music the controls (the open zone) are amazing
    The story is a return to form after the absolutely boring unfunny and bsd stories we have gotten! Tho probably this game wouldn't have Been as good if the team didn't try to master it from every direction just like    Sonic frontiers is a good sonic game after unleashed

    Wow!!!! Best 3D Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1 and 2!!!! It has a gripping and thoughtful story, addicting gameplay, and some of the best music in the video game industry. The boss fights are super epic and fun especially.

    This is the first Sonic game I've purchased since Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast. Sonic Frontiers is amazing, it feels like I'm playing the animated intro from Sonic CD. I have a vast open space and I can go wherever I want at sonic speed, solve puzzles, and engage in cool boss battles.

I played this game throughout and i have to say this game is amazing. the open world feels nice and there’s much to do in it. the cyber space stages are a bit odd and not too creative theme wise but level design and the feel is amazing. sometimes i feel like sonic is a bit floaty in the cyber space stages. The only problems i have with this game is the 4th and 5th islands where you could see they clearly ran out of either budget, creativity or care. and i do not care for the final boss fight of this game nor the pinball segment of chaos island. despite this i still enjoyed the game a lot. the super sonic boss fights were amazing and very raw and epic. This game is a step in the right direction. The past references of previous games, and the development of tails felt natural unlike lost world. Tails setting out to become his own person was a nice setup. And sage potentially being a recurring character is amazing. I wish infinite was too because his character potential was greatly missed. but i feel like sages development was spot on. overall this games story and gameplay are amazing. I love it!… Expand

    I wanted to see how I felt after playing for 5 minutes. That 5 minutes turned into 3 hours and I still had a hard time putting down the controller. The open-world exploration, enemy/level design, gameplay, and subtle background music reminds me of 4 different games. Breath of the Wild, Sunset Overdrive, Mario Odyssey, and Shadow of the Colossus. It definitely feels like an experiment. SomeI wanted to see how I felt after playing for 5 minutes. That 5 minutes turned into 3 hours and I still had a hard time putting down the controller. The open-world exploration, enemy/level design, gameplay, and subtle background music reminds me of 4 different games. Breath of the Wild, Sunset Overdrive, Mario Odyssey, and Shadow of the Colossus. It definitely feels like an experiment. Some ideas are well executed and others are a bit jarring/out of place. Specifically, the cyber space levels. The re-imaging of these 2D levels look stunning. But the gameplay for these sections do not stick the landing. I wish that when it comes to the classic levels, they would go a completely different route and have the “Sonic Mania” team design them from the ground up. “Mario Odyssey” executed this idea the best and they laid out a blu-print for it. That being one of my few complaints, I cannot wait to see how future “Sonic” games flourish from the foundation that “Sonic Frontiers” has built.     Sonic Frontiers takes the right steps to setup the next decade of Sonic games. Although the last decade of Sonic has been rocky, Sonic may have finally found his footing within the open world genre.

    For the first time in years Sonic has responsive controls, which work well in his environment. The last time you felt this level of control was Sonic Adventure back on the Dreamcast. The    Sonic Frontiers takes the right steps to setup the next decade of Sonic games. Although the last decade of Sonic has been rocky, Sonic may have finally found his footing within the open world genre.

    For the first time in years Sonic has responsive controls, which work well in his environment. The last time you felt this level of control was Sonic Adventure back on the Dreamcast. The world design is brimming with things to see and do and feels as if it is one big Sonic level. The story is emotional and touching and can leave a lasting impression upon any player which few other Sonic game have achieved.

    The highlight of this game are the titan boss battles. I would recommend going in blind and experiencing these yourself as they are a spectacle to say the least. They are the best boss battles in the entire Sonic series by far and you do not want to miss these if you are a Sonic fan.

    Overall this is a well-rounded game that sets the foundation for the next decade of games for the little blue blur. It strikes a balance between exploration and blistering speed and you never lose control of the player which is an massive achievement for any Sonic game.    … Expand

    This game is worthy of GOTY. A game that's on par with Unleashed. This review is coming from someone who doesn't play this style of game, Sonic or not.

    I know and seen plenty of the game prior to release, and its all being confirmed as I go on with my play-through. This review is spoiler-free. General stuff about the game: Story? Captivating.     This review is spoiler-free. General stuff about the game:

    Story? Captivating. Serious-toned, characters are faithful to their originally intended depictions, great for all audiences and especially teens and up. A love letter for the old-time fans, and a good and digestible introduction of what Sonic (& other characters in the series) is about (again, story-wise) for new fans. You'll find a lot of lore content too in gameplay elements, such as the fishing game, which is VERY neat. It creates incentive to explore other gameplay mechanics, and cohesion. Graphics/Visuals? Stunning. Picture worthy shots everywhere, makes you want to spend more time on each island, taking the environment in. If not for story/gameplay elements, then simply for the leisure of exploring beautiful scenery. A huge downside is the lack of photo-mode (as of writing) but hey, screenshotting works for now. Audio/Sound? BANGING. Enhances your experience tremendously. Amazing long tracks by many talented artists and groups. Especially the ones for cyberspace. As for sounds you'll find it good, but really the spotlights all on the music.

    Price? Absolutely worth it. If you focus only on the story, the game can be finished in ~20 hours, which is already SO MUCH longer than your average high-price Sonic game. If you want to 100% it though, ~30-40 hours. Especially for the casual players. Wonderful for the price, not too long not too short content-wise, *especially* for a Sonic game.

    Now, what about the nitty-gritty?

    Combat in the game is very fun, you'll be messing around creating your own strategies and fighting style. I LOVE the ability to practice your skills and improve muscle memory - again, this is from someone who doesn't play this style of game. VERY helpful for those unfamiliar and can use the practice in-between like myself. Not to mention how adjustable & customizable Sonic's controls are in the menu, this appeases so many sectors of this fanbase (and out, especially those that are not familiar with controlling sonic) to make the controls THEY'RE comfortable with. This is the most accessible and adjustable Sonic game to date.

    Mechanics are fun to mess around with and improve upon, instructions are clear and you can follow along the game's completion without being lost. You can adjust your gameplay style, difficulty, and how much you want to involve yourself in side-quests and more casual play and not just the main story and combat. *You* get to customize and balance out how you want to play.

    Overall, definitely in top 3 Sonic games out there. A must for new fans and old alike.    … Expand

The music, the gameplay, and the story all make for an awesome and interesting experience. My only real complaint is I think the true final boss “The End” could’ve been a bit better given the awesome Super Sonic boss fights throughout the game, but what we got is still pretty good. Other than that, I definitely recommend Sonic Frontiers.… Expand

    While there were some very small annoyances I had, in cyberspace and the 3rd island, most of it came more from my unfamiliarity with Sonic gameplay and my lack of practice. The combat, exploration, and story are all incredibly fun and the ending left me feeling accomplished and even made me cry. Another problem is the constant popping of the game, but I guess this can be fixed in future updates of the game. However the best sonic game in the last 10 years, it was enjoyable and expands many things of the lore, I like that they have developed the personality of sonic in this game, a more serious tone and committed to his role as a hero. I hope this game will serve as an example for sega's next plans.… Expand

    Sonic Frontiers is one of a kind game. It feels nice to have a really fun platforming game with a serious story. I highly recommend this game to both long time and casual fans. This is also a decent entree game for the series, though it does reference a lot of the old games.

    Sonic's move set is a lot of fun to mess around with, especially when you unlock every single skill. Doing    Sonic Frontiers is one of a kind game.     Sonic's move set is a lot of fun to mess around with, especially when you unlock every single skill. Doing different combos to see how fast you can defeat an enemy, performing tricks after launching yourself off of the terrain with boost, completing cyberspace levels as fast as possible, it's all really fun. The Boss Fights are actually insane and are one of the best fights in the entire series. Each one has a unique vocal song and you use what you learn from the island to beat them. They all have a theme.

    Cyberspace is definitely a weak part of the game but it's still fun, the levels at the start are very weak but once you get to the second or third island they pick up in quality. Like really, they go from reusing level layouts to being full on original, throwing in new mechanics like drifting and skateboarding segments. My favorite cyberspace levels are definitely the ones from the final island.

    Story Wise (No Spoilers) is good. There's a lot of mystery and it's really fun to explore and try piecing everything together. Sage is a very interesting character, Sonic is no longer one dimensional and has his practices and morals challenged, and believe it or not, this game has character development for the entire cast! I won't lie there were parts of the story that felt like they were doing damage control for the past 10 years, but they managed to make it work for the story. There are no longer 2 planets, there is no longer a classic and modern time line, and humans exist outside of just Robotnik. This game is better experienced blind.

    This game definitely is receiving some harsh ratings from critics outside of steam, which is as expected but you should go in and make your own opinion, and if you like it please leave a review. It is important for this franchise to receive as much positive feedback as possible since it is gaming's punching bag, but also be honest. This is one of my new favorite games in the franchise.    … Expand

    Sonic Frontiers is what Sonic has needed for years, you can see the love they gave him and as a fan of Sonic I am very happy it has things that although it is not perfect that does not make it a bad game as other critics say. :)

    The best sonic game I have ever played. It's just so much pure fun l! Running around and exploring as sonic just feels amazing, platforming acorss these huge landscapes at blistering speeds, the combat is super fast paced and energetic, the cyberspace levels at their best are as fun as generations and unleashed, the story has been quite good too! Highly recommend it to any sonic fan!

    This is the best Sonic game, in my opinion, the story is great, the characters are written so well, including Sage who I want to see more of in future games, the game-play is fun and addicting, and the bosses (even the twist for the last one) are fantastic and epic alongside the music. Finished it just now and I loved it.

    the open world is very fun to play you have very much things to do combat is solid but fun movment is great you can customize the movment story very good animaations better than before overall one of the best sonic game in my opinion and please play on hard mode to get good ending and check sometimes that it is on hard beacause it can change if you die too many times.

I’m giving this a high score because I want Sega to know that this is the direction I’ve wanted for a long time and seeing everyone’s positive impressionsThis game reminded me of why I love Sonic.     El juego es muy bueno, claro con sus defectos como cualquier juego pero sinceramente es más de lo que esperaba ya que la verdad no esperaba demasiado, ya que como muchos saben la saga de Sonic es como una montaña rusa, puede traerte juegos muy buenos y luego muy malos y siendo sincero no creí que fuera a ser un juego muy bueno ya que seguí muy desconfiado con sega después de lo de forces.El juego es muy bueno, claro con sus defectos como cualquier juego pero sinceramente es más de lo que esperaba ya que la verdad no esperaba demasiado, ya que como muchos saben la saga de Sonic es como una montaña rusa, puede traerte juegos muy buenos y luego muy malos y siendo sincero no creí que fuera a ser un juego muy bueno ya que seguí muy desconfiado con sega después de lo de forces. Pero al probarlo al principio duras un rato en acostumbrarte a los nuevos controles de Sonic (obvio si has jugado los de la era boost notaras un gran cambio en los controles) pero no son malos, al contrario son muy buenos y cómodos tanto que al pasar el rato no te incomodan en ningún momento y son muy disfrutables. Y bueno ahora hablando de lo malo, para empezar el juego tiene varios errores como la cámara, que si puedes ajustarla a tu gustó pero siendo sinceros no es una cámara muy cómoda ya que te puede hacer fallar y perder tiempo varias veces, el pop in tambien es otro problema que tiene, no es que sea algo que haga que el juego sea in jugable pero si se alcanza a notar que sufre mucho de eso y hace que el juego no se sienta muy bien optimizado, también otras de las cosas que tiene el juego es que el mundo abierto se siente muy desolado, que si por la trama se entiende que este solo, pero creó que pudieron haber hecho algo mejor con ello y por último de lo malo es que las zonas del ciber espació no son malas lo único que tiene que en lo personal no me gustó es que solo son 4 zonas a las que vamos en todo el juego y siento que es algo en lo que pudieron haber hecho algo mejor. Y ahora de lo bueno, pues el juego tiene muy grandes aciertos como por ejemplo, que la historia del juego es algo que sinceramente está mejor desarrollada y escrita que otros juegos actuales de sonic también que la jugabilidad cómo dije al principio es cómoda, no perfecta pero si es cómodo y jugable otras cosas que también tiene de bueno es su duración ya que los juegos anteriores como colores, generations y forces no te duraban más que unas 3 horas en la historia en cambio Frontiers si tiene una duración muy respetable de unas 6 o 8 horas, dependiendo de que tanto jueges claro. Y algo que no puedo dejar pasar por alto es... Su soundtrack, y es que el soundtrack es algo que la saga de sonic jamás decepciona y está no es la ocasión, teniendo muchos temazos que a muchos les encantarán.
    Y bueno creo que eso es todo lo que les puedo decir sobre el juego la verdad el juego cumple y mucho, el juego merece que le den una oportunidad, no será perfecto pero valla que es un gran juego y más teniendo en cuenta los juegos anteriores de esta franquicia y la reputación que ha tenido en los últimos tiempos. Si estabas pensando en comprar el juego y no sabías si hacerlo, hazlo se que no te arrepentirás de ello.    … Expand

    Plainly the best 3 Sonic game ever, boss battles are some of the best of the series, soundtrack is ons of the very very tops, exploration and enemies are fun. Could definitely have used an extra few months for endgame to be more fleshed out but wow, wow and wow.

    Sonic Frontiers is a good game with its flaws however, some of the puzzles are poorly designed with cyberspace levels being somewhat of a chore compared to the open world gameplay. The story is a step in the right direction with many characters being fixed to resemble their original personalities.     Finally we were given the opportunity to experience Sonic's speed to the full, without being restricted to linear levels. I also liked that Sonic started to remember his past adventures, as it ties the games together. The only thing missing is the ciao garden, but I think it will come back at some point for sure

    Special mention to the voice talent, Roger Craig Smith has had a rough time as Sonic with some appalling scripts and a grating Sonic voice, that changes here! The incredible script (Special Thanks to long time Sonic Comic writer Ian Flynn, a godsend) coupled with the new deeper tone of voice works fantastically, this is how Sonic sounds for sure.
    Gameplay wise it's maybe the best we've seen of a 3D sonic game since Sonic Adventure 1, Sonic handles fantastically, there's a learning curve to his movement which informs you that there's a large skill ceiling, although caps on momentum and standardised speed leaves room for improvement, the touches of momentum based play are there and it's fantastic.
    I ran into no bugs or glitches during my PS5 run of the game, but more importantly I never ran into an unfair death, something that plagues many sonic games.
    SET PIECES the Island bosses are incredibly hype, how the game handles Super Sonic is the new standard rather than feeling like some kind of cutaway or minigame you hold onto the skills you have learned during play and have them enhanced for these massive climaxes!
    As ever the music in Sonic is reliably great but it's truly a great OST a mix of the sound directors passions clearly, from melancholy to lo-fi, and a splash of 2000's era rock and metal, it comes together fantastically!
    Sonic Adventure 2 shoes are the cherry on top .
    9/10 quite possibly the best entry into Sonic's catalogue, I don't want to call it a perfect 10 because there's room for improvement but that is no criticism, that room for improvement only exists because of how stand out this game is. The only issue with the game are the pop ins and the 4 island, which is the northern part of kronos island. The final boss is fun but not compared to the previous titans fights. The game obviously have some bugs and the main systems like combat and general difficulty need an improvement. But overall the game is absolutely amazing, good graphics, good history, good characters personalities, good enemies and bosses.     Absolutely love this game. It's so atmospheric and the open world setting is brilliant. So much to discover and the more you play, the more you learn and get used to the great controls and battle moves. Some really cool ways of fighting and rushing around the brilliantly realised world. The best Sonic game in years and a really exciting step forward in the right direction.

Cyberspace physics were janky, and it took me a while to accept that many stages re-used old level design, but it was fun recognizing certain level layouts from Sonic's past. One thing I'd like to see in a potential follow-up to this game is replacing Cyberspace with more "levels in the open zone"- it's hard to understand what I"m describing if you haven't played the game. Though I still have a good amount of the game before I beat it, I've really enjoyed all of it so far, and I can't wait to see how Sonic Team takes what they've learned from this game to make something ven better.… Expand

    I love this game. I’m 17 and I’ve been with Sonic since I was 3. I’ve seen it all. My favorite game of all time is Sonic Unleashed for Xbox 360 and PS3. I can confidentially say this game is great. The open world is so fun and the music is some of the best this series has gotten. My favorite part is the boss fights. The story tries to be big, but it is just around the quality of Unleashed’s story, and unfortunately isn’t as good as the story in Adventure 2. However, the ending almost made me tear up. The cyberspace levels I am mixed about. The last island has completely original levels, other than one, but most of them are good. Unfortunately, the cyberspace levels in the earlier islands aren't so lucky. Some levels from earlier islands have level design taken from old levels, which sometimes feels lazy. However, the 3D stages are really fun. The 2D sections of cyberspace levels are probably the worst part of the game and the physics are why. You should also make sure to clear as many of the mini games that expand your GPS as possible or else you could be stuck searching for portals. However, overall, this game is fantastic. Get this game now. Also PLAY THE GAME ON HARD MODE or else you won’t get the true final boss. Actually, you only need to switch to hard mode before you get the 6th chaos emerald on the 5th and last island, but you should play the game on hard mode anyway because it’s not even hard.     Obviously there are many ennemies and bosses on the islands but I think you’ll have the same ennemies again and again it seem it will be kinda boring but you have different options to fight those ennemies.

    The average popping is a negative point, we are in 2022 and this isn’t esthetic for the game and I feel like a lack of time for the sonic team.

    The story is immersive and I found my sonic, this guy so cool and ready to help his friends no matter what, knuckles tails and Amy are fantastic i feel this link between the characters.

    Now let’s talk about the cyberspace and… Im split.
    We are tired of the same stages: Green Hill Chemical plant and sky sanctuary… okay it’s sonic memories BUT there are A LOT OF levels through the sonic games.
    Like you have: Spagonia, Kingdom Valley, twinkle mountain, jungle (sonic adventure 2 stage) I can’t trust they didn’t think about that.
    The gameplay is weird sonic seems like is so slow you don’t this feeling of soled through the cyberspace.
    The animations is mediocre when sonic is on rails and ****
    But In the same time I liked the cyberspace, I’m a sonic fan and these stages remind me these 3D games like unleashed and generation even if the gameplay isn’t good compared to unleashed/generation.

    Super sonic ? Super sonic oh my god it was one of my favorite part, the titans are amazing and terrifying and versatile. Giganto raven and samouraï was amazing and the freedom for super sonic is amazing too not just boost through the ennemie and that’s all, hell nah you’ll fight the ennemies and find strategies to hit’em up.

    To conclude sonic frontiers was a good game for me, he has his qualities like his defaults but it was really fun and immersive on all points.

    Es majestuoso un juego de sonic alfin lo que queriamos los fanaticos... Su diseño de nivel, la grafica, la historia los personajes y etc.. Es hermoso y no necesita tanta explicación

    Siendo una fan de Sonic desde pequeña, y creciendo mirando a sonic, digo que este juego es de los mejores juegos de sonic en 3D desde hace ya años, este es un juego necesario para la imagen de la franquicia, la verdad muy buen juego

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. One of the best sonic games ever. Its an open world sonic game with a few problems. 1. The obstacle course that give you memory tokens at the end have no explanation to being there. 2. There is so much rail grinding. 3. Chaos island sucks for being confusing but makes up for it with a cool area after you activate the death egg robot. 4. The true final boss sucks, they used the space shooter mini game for it and added to checkpoints and made it so difficult. But other wise, very good game.… Expand

    Super fun. A big come back of the franchise. The best sonic i've ever played. An absolutely awesome game.

    The idea and vision of the game is absolutely fabulous. In practice, however, the game is brought down by its execution, which you can see through after a short while and then the game has nothing to surprise you with. [Issue#324]

    There is nothing remotely redeeming about this game. Nothing that even the most die-hard loyal Sonic Fans would or should advocate for. I hope that one day someone who cares enough about this franchise could give us something-anything of substance. A fan can hope, can’t they? A fan can hope.

    Finally, after almost 25years of half measures and mostly mediocre titles, Sonic has finally reached the 3D levels of gameplay it needed to reach. Yes, the pop in is absolutely inexcusable and the ancient gatekeeping grindy methods damage the flow of the game for no reason, but a wonderfully built base exists here, with a highly entertaining adventure in wonderfully melancholic world and a surprisingly well founded story, thankfully clean of Sonic’s annoying 3rd tier friends!
