It is a very solid 9/10 for me.
Capcom did a very good job with the new characters. Come on, who doesn't love Lady D, Duke or the sadistic Heisenberg?

The only reason I don't give a 10 is that I think they can do even better and hopefully RE 4 Remake can achieve that! Can't wait!

I have recently played RE8 Village, and although I liked the game in several ways, there are other points that make me hate it quite a lot. I’m old enough to know about the former "Biohazard" first person shooting games and the not so bad "Umbrella Chronicles", which gave us another side of the story at Spencer's Mansion. Knowing all this I must say that having all the resources and technology from these days, why don’t give the player the choice to change their view? Why a first person camera?.

Ethan Winters is a faceless character that never makes you get into his story, looking for his disappeared girlfriend Mia. (RE7). The feel of that game isn’t the essence of Resident Evil, but that is another tale.

RE8 VILLAGE plot is in the air, playing with european myths and literature, vampires, werewolves, monsters from the lake, etc... and Chriss Redfield attached to the story in desperate intent to turn this into Resident Evil, sorry but I don’t bite it.

The main facts and several parts of the story seem to be inspired by SILENT HILL, a father who is looking for his daughter in the middle of a strange place surrounded by demon-like creatures, but in this case all without salt and pepper. Maybe you can't find the resemblance with the old KONAMI title, but the truth is that this plot is weak, and certainly isn’t polish.

The good stuff, all the artwork is fantastic, even addictive, like Lady Dimitrescu and her castle. The game is fun but is it really a Resident Evil game? .

I can't give it more than 5 it would be a treason to all that deep plots and amazing characters from the main RE franchise,

After having two titles followed by unrestrained action, the series returned to its origin in VII, what was great!!
But now, going back to follow the same path that drove fans away.
The great villain of the game, extremely cartoonish and theatrical character. Connections to history that discourage fans of the original Playstation 1 versions.
Even the Beneviento section, which has a great deal of terror. But it is psychological terror, running away from what RE has always proposed.
There are those who say that history does not tell in the RE franchise. To those, I recommend that you go and play the originals.

That’s why I was surprised when I couldn’t even make it past the first area in the game with the things that kind of look like Beast from X-Men. I spent almost an hour trapped in that first house trying to find a way out until I figured out that you can, indeed, kill them. Then it became a process of me frantically looking for where to go next before being slaughtered by a large group of the beast creatures. Rinse and repeat for two hours before I decided to just opt for a refund. No idea what I was doing wrong. I’ve heard others say it’s pretty easy. One of the biggest issues I had was picking up items. Sometimes I would be standing right next to it with the icon highlighted, but it’s like the button just wouldn’t register. The start of the game was also confusing and didn’t feel like RE to me. Controls were clunky, which I guess is to be expected. The enemies also felt more out of something like Devil May Cry or even like the orca from LotR. Main character seemed lame. His reactions just didn’t make sense, especially considering he’s been through this before. I didn’t play 7, so maybe that would help. Also had problems seeing because it was too dark.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. RE Village is one of my most anticipated game of the year and I am always been a big fan of the series. So how does this installment hold up? Sadly, it is an uneven entry which despite its incredible production values failed to evoke that sense of terror that was prevalent in its previous entry. The main problem was that RE became a victim of its success: even its previous remake of 2 and 3 are of such high quality, it made this installment slightly redundant. The highlight: the first half of the game, with its excursion of Castle Dimetrescu and its inhabitants that are so well designed that they became instant meme's. Each subsequent sections sadly could not reach that particular heights until the so called finale, where a more surprising action packed section, provides you with a much needed rush in adrenaline. Nevertheless, RE still provides the usual thrill and chills, and maybe this more streamlined, less 'horror' approach is the one that provides the sales for Capcom. Expand

A decent entry in the series that is lacking in genuine horror for the most part and instead relies on middling gun play as it corrals you around an incredibly small game world from one “boss fight” to the next. This entry like the last suffers from its need to be tied to the broader story of the series which (lets be honest) has become a saltire of itself.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Would recommend playing for fans of the series and those interested in horror/action games-this entry in the series tones down the overall horror, when compared to previous games, however, it still delivers in providing a creepy atmosphere with solid survival horror gameplay. The character design and gameplay is also solid-new inventory system and merchant was a great addition!

A single playthrough can last anywhere from 10-15 hours, depending on how much time you invest outside the main story with puzzles and treasures. The world is more open at least compared to previous entries, but it can still feel linear at times in terms of what resources you have access to and how this impacts your movement around the world. The world itself is designed very well-there is great variety to the different areas you explore throughout the story. However, there were a few areas in the game I would have liked to further explore, but was unable to revisit due to my progression in the story.

A few weaknesses of the game would include the relatively short lived boss battles which didn't live up to the hype going into the game-some of which were over the top action oriented. If you are an avid player in the series, I would also recommend playing through on hardcore difficulty.

A highly polished game (minimal bugs, great graphics and animations, etc) that is nevertheless very mediocre. The game is at war with itself by trying to be a jack of all trades, but is a master of none.

It wants to be a survival horror style RE, but there are a million ways to procure health and ammo, be it through any drops, crafting, or simply just buying them from the Duke. Not to mention your inventory case which has enough space to hold every weapon, bullet, and healing item under the sun, made even easier because treasure, key items, herbs and other crafting items don't take up space.

It wants to be RE4 as well, but never throws enough enemies at you at once to really take full advantage of the massive arsenal you amass, and as a result combat becomes rather unengaging before long. A problem that's compounded by the lack of enemy variety or variety in enemy encounters.

There are multiple areas that are on the weaker side, or just a slog to playthrough (especially on repeat playthroughs) such as the opening and it's unskippable 5 minute (at MINIMUM) forced walking section, and the 2nd and 3rd main areas. As a result, you get a game that will, for decent stretches of time, will border on uninteresting or boring.

As far as story goes, it's nothing special. It's nonsensical and the characters range from mildly interesting to completely forgettable. The cast is nowhere near as strong as the Baker's from 7.
Post game, you unlock the Mercenaries. It's decent enough but it's not as fun as the mercenaries from 4, 5, and 6. You also unlock Village of Shadows difficulty, which feels like it's super hard just for the sake of being super hard. Personally, I found no enjoyment in it.

Overall, this is not a bad game. It's just very mediocre.

I'm not giving it a 10 because of mercenaries and more specifically that in order to get the trophy you need to grind, and when you say grind that's not good. It would've been perfect if they made the trophy such that you need to finish every map once if they wanted you to go through everything.
Anyway since most of the players will likely just play the story mode most of the time, that part is excellent. I would've liked a more tense atmosphere to be honest, like the Baker house, but what we got is definitely not bad. Definitely recommend this game and I'm glad I've got it.

It felt like being on a really fancy ride that only went one speed if that makes sense? A lot of style and not so much substance. I wish they would have chosen one or two sections and fleshed them out more - instead, they focused on 4+ sections and the end result just felt a bit all over the place. Plus, it is CAMPY - I know, it’s resident evil, but usually these games serve you camp with a dose of atmosphere. This one was just straight camp and trying too hard to shock the viewer.
On a positive note, the game is gorgeous. One of the best current gen games I’ve played. Also, it is totally playable and it’s not unfun, it just really is an action game through and through, there is zero tension/horror, and I was not really expecting that.

The levels are very detailed, be it the houses in the village filled with half cooked food or the furniture in the castle or the claustrophobic Beneviento's house. The amount of variation that can be observed, from the castle to the creepy doll house to the factory , makes this game a joy to play for someone who loves detailed level designs/level designs that pack a lot of creativity and variety.

Characters: Character creation is where this game gets a big plus. The characters don't feel cheap and the characters are also very detailed in terms of textures + portraying the emotions.

Gameplay: Gameplay is fun. It's a game that takes around 10-12 hours and is ideal for folks like me who don't have a lot of time to play video games anymore. Gameplay has the usual resident evil mechanics like crafting, ammos etc One thing I loved is the ammo isn't as scarce as resident evil 7 which made this game a tad bit easier than the previous game.

Gameplay goes from RE7 style gameplay to something a action intensive gameplay and Capcom transitioned the gameplay from one style to another with fluidity.

Audio: One has to use headphones to get the best out of this game's audio. This game has amazing 3d audio which really helps to adds an extra layer of immersion in the game. It helps in the boss fights + you can easily track the enemies based on the 3d sound.

Over all, Capcom has perfected of what people expect from a AAA game in RE8. The detailed level design, characters that pack a lot of depth and emotion, great 3d audio, the ability to change the difficulty(yes, this is a big deal now-a-days), save feature so you need not be glued to one specific game, amazing visuals, a good storyline, the final hour of amazing action packed gameplay, hitting 4k 60fps with ray tracing, all combined together makes this game a perfect 10 on 10. RE8 sets an example of what one should expect from a AAA game.

If that's not a riddle then it'll be a bunch of monsters trying to kill you or even a boss fight. All boss fights are unique and well designed. For me it's the best game in resident evil universe I've ever played. If you're thinking about buying this, don't think twice. Just get up and go buy it. Expand

whoever wrote this game need a **** raise, amazing story.
It is a perfect sequel of RE7, the gameplay is very fun.
The level design is something of another world, outstanding.
The village, the castle and all the other places are insane.
It's not scary as RE7 but the tension while playing is always present.

Overall is a very good game, a lot of effort was put into it, wether by the visuals, sound and by the polished and engaging gameplay. Some may say it's a bit short (lasts about 10 hours), but I'd rather play something short, intense and well paced like this than some games that drags on for 30-40 hours just for the sake of been overly long.

It's very similar to RE7, but (unfortunately)

It's very similar to RE7, but (unfortunately) less focused on horror. We still get those scare jumps and classic backtracking Resident Evil gameplay, but RE4 like heavy action sequences are also in the mix. I do like it better when it sticks to the horror parts (especially the first half). The shooting segments are not bad, it's still enjoyable to be honest, but I prefer Resident Evil when it doesn't try to be Call of Duty.

It's a solid game. I had fun with it. Not better than RE7 but still a good time. Gameplay is fun and I love the inventory system. The bosses are challenging and all have their own unique traits to fighting them(with the exception of Heisenberg,; cool character, crappy boss fight). The Mother Miranda fight is really cool, too.

So yeah, I had a good time. It's like Capcom combined RE4 & RE7 together. I hope they bring back more horror elements to the next few game. RE7 was close to perfect and Survival Horror should be at the root of every game in the franchise.

Starting from the best aspects, the work has an excellent artistic realization and a suggestive and intriguing setting, linked to the imagery of classic horror. However, it must be emphasized how what is visually striking is the complex, while if we focus on the details it denotes a lack of finishing that is sometimes annoying. The aesthetic aspect is very good, but nothing exceptional compared to what one is used to in other titles, this being a triple A title and as such it must be evaluated. The sound sector is good, however the music is devoid of originality and limp. Regarding the duration, I think it is very good since we are talking about a survival horror and an excessive length would have led to grouting. Excellent plot, not original but solid and well structured, very inspired, intriguing and full of functional and well integrated twists. The direction is average, the staging is sometimes very good, sometimes it drops, but it is never bad and the pace remains high for almost the entire adventure. The first concern concerns the gameplay. Despite being a survival horror and the first part follows that style, gradually a game play is intensified more, even at the greatest difficulties, to action, coming to be almost a first person shooter. This is also accentuated by a bland and overly mundane game design. The places are extremely not very complex, very linear and we almost proceed on autopilot; the puzzles are too easy, mundane and offer no real challenge. This leads to a flattening both of the progression, simple and linear, and of the satisfaction deriving from solving complex puzzles or the frustration of not knowing where to go, of getting lost in an unknown and hostile place, something that in that setting so characteristic of Europe. oriental would have been nice. This leads to the second perplexity. If the goal of a survival horror is, at least in experience, to provoke frustration, anxiety, fear, tension, estrangement, this video game, on the other hand, never manages to make these feelings feel, making it tasteless. The same enemies are not very incisive, perhaps because in excessive numbers, hence the action. Fewer enemies but with a better character design and a greater challenge in dealing with them would have helped. Finally, the villains. While they are certainly intriguing and sexually attractive, female lead characters are not only not dangerous, but they also fail to cause fear, anxiety or negative feelings towards them. To conclude, Residen Evil Village is still a good video game, capable of entertaining and with a story worthy of being told and lived, but it is certainly far from being what a survival horror should represent. The story is classic Resident Evil, and great if you are into it. The game does suffer a bit of a classic RE issue, where the game does progressively less scary as it goes along, and you learn the premise of the story, and how challenging each enemy is. Meaning that the game really isn't that scary after the first hour or two (with an exception a section mid game, that i won't spoil).

One of the greatest achievements of the game is the pacing IMO. You get constant feeling of progression, and are moving from one area to the next with a great pace. You could even say that you aren't getting enough time in each of the great locations, which is a credit to how well each section is crafted. The game never overstays it welcome, which was the case at certain points of RE7.

Overall a great game, and the best storydriven AAA game of the year so far, and seemingly until the fall.

The Good Parties
This game has advanced the Resident Evil series about the universe and story, as Capcom says.
    The story
I don't know how to tell the game without telling the scenes from the game in general, but in Re7 they connected the story very well, but in this game they connected it 10 times better than the level of that game for a long time.
it was the best game I have experienced in general, I had a lot of hesitation about the progress of the story, no thicc vampire sister werewolves with advertisements. finished game definitely play this game.
    ⭕Play
The gameplay is almost perfect in every aspect, the feeling of the hit, the variety of weapons, the variety of bosses and the high number of them, I have cut more than 20 bosses that do not affect the big and small story in general in the game and this gives the right to have that much weapon variety.
    ⭕Graphics and Performance
I played the game on PlayStation 4 and I passed the fps drop in performance, I even experienced an increase in the 45 fps constant running game went up to 50 fps and this shows that it is an extremely good optimization As someone who likes the story of cyberpunk 2077, the optimization disaster came like a drug because it is a game. And I played extremely comfortably. The graphics push the boundaries compared to the old generation.

The village, which is introduced in this long-awaited title, located in Romania - with its utterly incredible atmosphere and vibe; Terrifying, yet, of course, beautiful and gorgeous setting - sets up a perfect opportunity to create, what could have been, an absolutely unforgettable grounded, survival horror experience and introduce an interesting and believable story, along with interesting villains and characters. However, now judging how this game was designed and made in mind, Resident Evil Village was destined to miserably collapse and fail in those specific departments from the very start, while shining in very few.
There are, indeed, some slow paced, terror-inducing, atmospheric exploration sections that shine the best in Resident Evil Village, and roaming around in the village - which acts as a central hub - searching, gathering resources and collecting items can be, of course, a lot of fun. However, the game is more action-oriented than it suits Resident Evil, while - without spoiling anything - indescribably cheesy, corny, unsuitable, flat out bad and ridiculously over the top story and plot-twists; Ridiculously over the top action gameplay moments, even for a mistake that is an action oriented Resident Evil (which are a lot, with last sections being full-blown Call of Duty and Metal Gear-like moments and experiences) and cutscenes; Also, very unrealistic, unbelievable, cheesy and extremely cartoony villains, characters and moments, utterly dismantled the overall experience of Resident Evil Village for me. If you want to experience the peak of what Resident Evil is, as a slow paced, grounded survival horror experience, where Resident Evil shines and works the best, and what Resident Evil should be, I would recommend Resident Evil 1 Remake. You might say: "Wait, but there are some over the top enemies and moments even in that game, too!" Well, that is true and not true at the same time. There are concrete, acceptable and established points in every franchises' universe, you can and absolutely should develop and expand on them, however, if you entirely cross over those said points and boundaries, you leave the zone of "unbelievable," if we can even call it that, of course (zombie invasions, tyrants, mutants - but still just enough to be believable and to be enjoyed - no flying dragons, no "possessed" dolls, no destructive robots, etc. And, thankfully, more realistic, scientific and materialistic, grounded approach to the story and core gameplay) and enter the zone of, what I would call, "just flat out crazy and ridiculous" (which Resident Evil has become majorly since Resident Evil 4, though I would say Code Veronica started it all).
Resident Evil Village had moments and sections where I enjoyed it and where it was almost correctly done, however, summing up everything I mentioned above, overall, I did not like the game and, sadly, I do not even want to call this Resident Evil. Personal verdict: Not the worst thing in the whole entire observable universe, but not a good game by any stretch of the imagination. Do not buy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You can call me a miserable, an immature whiner, but the game would be much better for me if it had a different ending, because i'm not a huge fan of the "bittersweet" ones. Besides, Ethan Winters was my absolute favourite character since his debut in 2017. You know the feeling you get when you realize that something or somebody you're so attached to is now gone forever. It hurts me so much and I still can't get over it. Just bring Ethan back for one more time as a side character, Capcom, I'm begging you! Seriously, even though he's just a fictional character and, according to a game plot, was not even a human being for like his last three years, he DESERVES the better treatment from both players/fans and developers.
Aside from that, RE Village seemed to me running short on content, despite the fact that it has the longer campaign (than RE7), some good replayability + the mercenaries mode. The game's amount of plot and lore wasn't enough for me. Still waiting for a sequel though.
And about the gameplay. It's a pretty good amalgam of RE7 and RE4 gameplay mechanics, but the whole merchant system still bothers me. It encourages you to confront and even pursue your enemies rather than run away from them and save your supplies. Imo, it's fun to play, but it doesn't really match the original survival horror concept. The Chris' part/gameplay doesn't include the merchant at all but it's even more "actiony" instead.
I also have complaints about the game optimization (PC/Steam version). No matter how low I set the graphics quality, the game still suffers from significant frame drops, especially when I encouter one of the Dimitrescu daughters or get close to a group of lycans. Even 30fps lock doesn't always save the day. MAYBE my PC is the problem but i'm not quite sure.

I think it's worth to play. But try not to take it all too much to heart like I did.

From the beginning you’re thrown into a wonderfully haunted environment with inspirations of classic horror stories like Dracula and Frankenstein, which is a much more charming approach than a rotted house in the south. Rather than gross mold monsters, you’re faced with lycans and vampires amongst other classic horror enemies as you explore a much more open area that is the village and its surrounding areas. The greatest stride this game made over the previous was characterization. Not only is more depth added for Ethan and the cast of good guys, but all the villains feel much more meaningful than the Baker family. You find yourself remembering their names, wanting to know their backstories, and always getting excited to see what happens when you find them. Right from the start of the game the plot explodes and you’re completely sucked in to the beautifully designed castle and the villains who wander it, but once you leave the castle the game makes you feel like only then did the game truly begin, and that’s an incredible feeling.
Every second spent exploring this game is a feeling of curiosity and intrigue, keeping your guard up for any new enemies that may be around a corner they were not in before. While I wish it was possible to backtrack at certain points, I loved always having new places to go and things to do. Even the collectibles are fun to find. The story certainly carries this by giving you new and interesting characters along the way, leading to a conclusion that’s immensely satisfying and makes me excited for what comes next. Simply put this game is a work of art, from wonderfully written plot and dialogue to beautiful imagery and environments, and a level of masterful and suspenseful storytelling that always made me come back excited to play more. Without a doubt this game is a work of near perfection and surpasses its predecessor by giving you a longer, more expansive, and overall more enjoyable journey every step of the way.

    Was?
Wie die Technik und das Gameplay so sind? Jaja, top. Und jetzt geht spielen!

Same old feminist stuff, guys lose or die, woman win and live on forever, give me a break, it's starting to be ridiculous, always killing the main characters, crappy story, great monsters and fights but story is horrible.

Similarly to Resident Evil 4 back in the day, Village will attract a new generation of players and redefine the franchise for the modern age. I guess it’s time to stop looking back and counting on the series to return to its roots. Capcom is well aware of those roots and willingly draws from them to create something new but still infused with Resident Evil’s spirit. Village is not perfect, but neither was RE4, and once again it’s easy to turn a blind eye to the flaws, because overall it’s an amazing game. [07/2021, p.56]

Resident Evil Village feels like such a culmination. Bringing together elements from the franchise all the way up to now and crafting what looks to be the next step of survival horror, it embraces every aspect of the franchise. While the insidious dread of Resident Evil VII is missing, there are still plenty of scares. The monster designs are fantastic, from the generations undead, the fury of the Lupine beasts, to the towering monstrosities. It's well worth delving into the concept art and 3D models to enjoy them fully. The story is just the right amount of silly with the terrifying, and the odd dash of the surreal. The combat is smooth and fluid, best evidenced in the addictive Mercenaries mode. All of these elements added together make quite possibly the best Resident Evil to date, and a foundation for a fresh new generation of terror.

RE: Village is a mixture of almost all previous Resident Evil elements, making the most of both survival horror and puzzle intensity, but with the primary stage being left for the more action-like nature of Resident Evil 4. It has some great story moments, sprinkled with a few lacklustre characters that are still overshadowed by its most notable characteristic – most detailed environment to date.
