Remnant II is better than its predecessor in basically every way imaginable, but an even bigger focus on procedural generation brings with it some baggage. Navigation is more difficult than it needs to be, while the UI leaves a lot to be desired. In the heat of the action, though, Remnant II is a great, satisfying shooter that allows for lots of different team compositions through deep character customisation. Get a few friends involved for some online co-op fun and you could have yourself an all-new obsession.

Remnant II is an impressive technical and artistic accomplishment in some ways, offering an intermittedly-striking, cutting-edge procedural world that’s satisfying to unravel. Unfortunately, a forgettable story, middle-of-the-road gunplay, dull loot, and some performance issues means this fantastic world isn’t always that fun to inhabit. Some folks, particularly those with a regular co-op party, will be drawn into this dark multiverse, but others may find Remnant II only provides scattered fragments of excitement amidst the frustration.

Remnant II is capable of surprises with its varied world design, and offers an enjoyable co-op experience, but its combat loop is needlessly stodgy and repetitive. [Issue#31, p.70]

Indeed, Remnant 2 will be much more appreciated in multiplayer than alone. The customization possibilities will be multiplied (three characters with double archetypes, it's starting to do things!) And the exploration is made less bland since everyone trains from one place to another. The boss fights are all the more interesting to maneuver without being more complex. Otherwise, Remnant 2 remains quite linear and complex to appreciate, especially since some problems not corrected for the first episode are back. Something difficult to digest four years later. It is therefore difficult to turn to Remnant 2 for a solo experience. However, it shows its full potential in multiplayer to those looking for demanding games that will satisfy their thirst for customization.

It's really just a bunch of gameplay mechanics put together in a prototype: The world is procedurally generated, not designed, it has no world persistence so, no sense of progression, graphics are basic, the engine has glaring performance issues, story and dialogues are basic. So, they grabbed a bunch of gameplay mechanics, added near-placeholders all around it, called it game and sold it for $70.

A lot of people seem to love playing a prototype of a game, tho, so, genius business move, I guess.

Even on the easiest difficulty. Having rerolled the campaign numerous times, looking for a good starter world, I've now seen the world's, and have nothing to look forward to. Forced to play as a garbage class type I hate, healer, because anything else solo is unplayable. They fixed thier terrible bosses from 1 with non stop adds, to make even worse **** bosses with dumb mechanics, and one shot kills. This is a terrible game as is. I've never been turned off so quickly by a game before. Full Review »
